So my friend and I came to Roes sport bar for something new. We were greeted by a nice guy he asked if we wanted a booth, high top or table. We were seated at a booth, it was clean. There are mini tvs at each booth. Our waiter mike, was super nice, took our drinks and got our appetizer order. There were a couple servers standing around not doing anything but hanging by the bar. They were yelling across the restaurant to talk to one another. One staff member who is wearing yoga pants who mentioned how some of the tables looked like they hadn't been clean because of a bird.? Kind of concerning. We both ordered the ground sirloin. I thought it was going to be like a steak but it's more like a hamburger patty. It was cooked like I wanted. It tastes great. Overall great meal for the price.!

I went here last time I was in town for business and had the Reuben which was decent. service was good. so I came back to try something new on the menu this visit. got the side salad, chili, green beans and prime rib. chili tasted like it was almost spoiled, and prime rib tasted more like roast beef going bad. I gave this place two stars because the service was decent. I had to go home right after because my stomach didn't agree with the food.

Food is overall ok. Liked the French onion soup. Ribeye and pork chops are both alright. Service generally seems a little slower than average, but not bad. Lots of TVs and good beer selection on tap. Considering your options to eat around here, a decent place and probably go back.

This place is AMAZING! Our server was Gary and he worked his ass off the entire time we were there and still was super cool and chill. it's New Years Eve and they were swamped but they still managed to be nothing less than stellar. I would have given them 5 stars but I had the breaded chicken sandwich and the edges were a little overdone but still delish! We will be coming back for sure! Thanks Gary!

Recently moved to town and thought we had found a good place to eat. Tried a hamburger on separate occasions and was disappointed both times. Ordered medium once and got well done and very dry. Just got back from there tonight and had issues with a burger again. This time ordered medium-rare thinking I could at least get a medium burger, but no luck again well done and dry. I do not think it is very difficult to cook a medium-rare hamburger, but for some reason they have trouble doing it at Roe's. On a positive note, they have lots of good craft beer to choose from. If you are looking for a good burger, this is not the place.

Anytime we eat here the food is lackluster. Although it is locally owned, the service was horrible- it was as if the staff didn't care that we were there- they weren't happy- and we could tell. I believe I counted 13 large screen TVs from where we sat. What ever happened to the old Roe's- where the TVs were just in the bar area? Get rid of the TVs, they make it hard to talk at the table. The menu when we were there was plastered with ads telling us of other local businesses that had to pay to see their name in a menu. I think that's really sad. While they serve American food, they are trying to expand their menu and be like everyone else, who is expanding their menus to fit everybody. Just make a good burger- keep your food hot and do it right. If you have a small menu, but good food people keep coming back. I wish Gordon Ramsey would come and give this place a makeover- food and inside- now that would create some buzz!

When I pass through Ottumwa, I normally enjoy some comida casera at Los Cactus or Juquelita. On a recent occasion, I decided on straight ahead American and went to Roe's. I had driven by many times and never stopped. The restaurant is large and has a patio for use in good weather. They have a big standard American menu with no real surprises. They were featuring somebody's local brisket on that day but I thought that seemed a little risky, not knowing if it would be fresh. I went safe and ordered a half-pound cheeseburger. I asked for it medium because I don't care for raw ground beef. It was cooked to order and was not dry. The patty seemed to be a pre-formed disk and there were a few chewy bits in it. It did not have any grill flavor, it was not seasoned and was served with a very limp piece of lettuce. The bacon and cheese on it were fine in that they added flavor. The bun was pretty large, but was not bready and dry. My slaw was limp, meaning it was made up probably the day before, or was not kept cold on the day I was there. It had sweet, creamy dressing as is expected for the region. I think Roe's is really a solid three star place, but I have to rate what I ate. A little care and thought would have made my burger pretty good.

The Hot Beef Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes is absolutely awesome!!! My wife loved the Ruben, and my kids really enjoyed the chicken strips! Great local place...and we were just passing through!

Better than a chain, but not anything exceptional. I would definitely go back and try other things on the menu. Pleasant staff and I didn't have to wait at all for service. I had a cup of Smoky Cheddar soup which was actually really good! Macaroni and cheese soup with a smoked sausage - very flavorful. I ordered the French Dip but was served the Phili Cheese Steak. I had too long of a day to send it back and, as it turns out, it was a really nice sandwich. Not too heavy or greasy like they sometimes are. This is probably a fun place for a group looking for a sports bar atmosphere. I was just looking for a quick dinner while out of town, so I probably didn't appreciate the place as it was intended to be enjoyed.

This casual dining establishment is located right across from the Sonic and Walgreen's on the north side of the Des Moines River in Ottumwa. It used to be Fisherman's Bay. Their menu includes a section on sandwiches, pasta, appetizers, as well as entrees such as steaks. When there I had a special New York steak done with a whiskey sauce and serviced with garlic mashed potatoes, candied carrots and a salad. My wife had another steak similarly served. They also came with fresh hot bread. Everything was delicious! Both of our steaks were great as were all of the accompanying items! The bread was a wonderful mixture of slightly crusty outside with soft inside including whole grains. I don't even like carrots and I wound up eating all of mine before anything else! The service was top notch. We arrived after any big dinner rush and were given a seating choice immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and fun. The dining area is on two slightly differing levels inside and the decor is subtle. The bar area looked very well done as well, from the lighting to the seating. This is a place I'd gladly go back to and invite friends.
