I used to live 5 blocks from Zoey's Pizza in Marion but never went there. Don't ask me why, I'd heard glowing things about them from numerous people. I just never went. That all changed yesterday. I walked in and realized it's MUCH smaller than I realized. It's a little dining room with maybe 20 tables (MAX) in there. But it was very cozy. Great decor too. Random pictures hanging up but it's exactly what I expected. They were pretty busy (which is typical from what I've seen) but there was a table open. It's seat yourself at night (or late afternoon) so I grabbed a table quick while waiting for my friend. It took a few minutes for the waitress to make it over to me, but again, they were pretty busy. The waitress brought over a menu and asked if I wanted to order. I told her I was waiting for someone so she took my drink order and waited for my friend to get there. When he did arrive, we decided on the Chicago style, deep dish sausage and mushroom pizza. When it came out, holy crap, I was in love. It was super thick crust with some sort of tomato sauce on top. And it tasted even better than it looked! The waitress came to refill our drinks regularly enough and didn't hover. After the pizza (I only had one piece because it was so filling!) my friend asked if I wanted dessert, the Zookie. I had no idea what a Zookie was, but I love dessert so of course I said yes. This was just as good as the pizza. It was a personal size pizza pan filled with a chocolate chip cookie. It had three scoops of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and hot fudge on top. It was like heaven on earth, partially because the cookie was still warm. I was impressed. This is a great place for a first date. It's very cozy and informal. I didn't give it five stars only because we just had a generic type of pizza. They have New York style thin crust and a taco pizza that looked fantastic. I'll definitely be going back to try that. Zoey's is definitely one of the best pizza places I've been to.

Still the best pizza in the area!!! Not only do they have the best pizza any where they also have the zookie! That in my opinion is with 5 stars by itself! They only have dine in or carry out and you can only get the zookie when you dine in! When you go here you will most likely have to wait for a table to open up! It's well worth the wait! Both the New York style and Chicago style pizza is very very good!!! The only knock I have about this place is there new york isn't really all that think like real New York style pizza but it makes for a better more filling pizza! oh and the Zookie in case your not sure what it is, it is a chocolate chip cookie baked in a cast iron plate with three scoops of ice cream, chocolate syrup and whip cream YUMMMMMM!

Either a person likes Chicago style deep dish or they don't. If you do, this is great pizza. Yes the service can be slow and yes, it does take a lot longer to make that pizza but it is delicious. The dining area is small and could use a good cleaning. The bathrooms are clean but freezing in the winter. Also in the winter, every time the door opens you will be cold. If you go, stop by and rob a bank first. The pizza is getting crazy expensive. A small Chicago style Zoey's will run you right at $20 (four slices = $5 a slice. Impressive math skills right!) It seems if they are taking into account that they can't turn their tables fast enough and so we are all paying double. I understand that the cost of the food also has to pay for all of those other things, but seriously? Do I have to make the light payment on my own for you? Will I keep coming back? Yes, but only occasionally. With two teenagers I have to make the choice between buying them this pizza or paying for their college.

Zooey's makes a delicious pizza and the Zookie is a hedonistic heart attack of goodness. That said, this review is about the service. Particularly the service I received on my last visit. As you will note from several previous reviews, you can expect a line at Zooey's. It's ok - it's part of the experience and the pizza is definitely worth the wait. That said, on 10/11/13 the wait turned into something else entirely. As usual the entryway was crowded when we arrived. My companions decided to wait outside because of the crowd while I got us on the list for a table. When I entered, a server walked toward me, made eye contact, and then promptly ignored me. Instead of greeting me, adding our party of three to the waitlist or even acknowledging my presence she went to a table, literally three feet from where I was standing, and started chatting with a male customer who appeared to be her friend or boyfriend. They flirted for about 10 mins and at one point even compared shoe sizes by placing their feet side by side while all of the people in line for a table looked-on in disbelief. The whole time while she laughed, touched and flirted with the guy, she had her back to me, to the door and to any other potential customers. My companions (my son and girlfriend) were stuck outside watching this spectacle and clearly frustrated. Finally, after the long line for carryout was gone I went to the desk and asked the young woman in charge of carryout if I could be added to the list. She was courteous and apologetic for not having acknowledged us. I love Zooey's Pizza but I plan to stay away for a while because of this situation.

Fantastic pizza! The Taco is amazing, and you can finish it off with a Zookie. Yum! The only bad part is how long you have to wait for food or even to get in for a seat. It's always crowded too. But, that's a side effect of it being popular. Maybe someday they'll get a bigger building or another location for more people to enjoy the fantastic pizza.

Amazing pizza! I especially love their taco pizza (which you can easily get without meat and is still very tasty). They also have an item called a "Zookie", which is a cookie baked in a cast-iron skillet then topped (while still hot) with ice cream, and that is amazing. Downsides: It's a little more expensive than other pizza places because it's so delicious. It's also a small place, so sometimes it's a bit of a wait to get your pizza. But it's worth it!

Zoey's was the first place we went to when we moved to Cedar Rapids and fell in love with the place. The pizza is amazing! The cheese bread is to die for!! The only problem I have ever had is the long wait. Try to get there by 4 30 on a Friday and you will most likely get a table!

I'd place Zoey's deep dish against any other pie out there.... and it will fight against any CHI-pie you can throw at it. Owners are friendly and inviting. And family owned and operated. They could expand and branch, but they want to keep it small and as-is. And expect a wait.... people will stand in line (all the way outside) just to wait to eat it there in a small quint corner building that sits about 30-40 people tightly. Well, it is worth the wait. Hard part is standing there watching others eat as your mouth is drooling. Fresh and from scratch everything. And the cheese is to die for, the real stuff, and tons of it oozing all over. Very filling.. but you dont want to stop. They have other menu items as well as a decent selection of beers. For me its a toss up between Tomaso's (Detroit Style) and Zoey's (DeepDish) for the best pie in the area. Would be a good episode of "Food Wars" I will update this review when I get more time. For now, I'm gonna stuff my face.

We went to Zoey's because our daughter's school friends kept saying good things about the place. There were also positive reviews from yelpers. I ordered around 530pm for carryout and was told I couldn't pick up the pizza until 7pm. The order was for the large Zoey chicago style pizza. When I went to pick up the pizza at 7pm, I was told you have to call by 430pm if you want the pizza by a specific time. The pizza was was under heater and it was lukewarn when I got it home. We only live about 2 miles away. The sauce is tangy and not too sweet. The pizza tasted fresh. The ingredients were good quality. The toppings were skimpy. It was not what I thought a chicago style pizza would be. It was not as thick and stuffed with ingredients as I expected. Not the greatest but not the worst. Parking call be a challenge. It's in the "hip" part of Marion so there's not much parking. Its a little itty bitty place so I recommend carryout if you don't want to deal with the crowds.

If you live in Cedar Rapids/Marion and haven't been to Zoey's... what are you waiting for? Just go. Your taste buds will love and thank you for it! Anything and everything is good especially the Chicago-style deep dish or taco... so great and so perfect. You may have to wait awhile but it's so incredibly worth it. Now that I live in Seattle, the pizza scene is somewhat lacking and I haven't found a favorite just yet. I wish Zoey's would invest in being able to ship their pies halfway across the country...

Zoey's is known for their Chicago style pizza but many of you are not aware of this delicious treat. The Zookie, a 9-inch chocolate cookie topped with ice-cream and whipped cream, is an excellent choice for the after-dinner sweet tooth. This dessert can easily satisfy three people or two extremely ravenous customers. Surprisingly, the Zookie is not even listed on their menu but if you ask for one, you and your dinner companions will not be disappointed.

Had the Chicago deep dish Zoey style pizza. So much left over from just the medium sized pizza. The sauce here is freshly made and they use good ingredients for toppings. Only negative is the size of the restaurant is small and we hit just before a peak time so service was fast but once other customers arrived and the place filled in, it was hard to get the check. Give them a try anyways or try takeout!

Amazing food! Loved the paint by number paintings on the wall. We live really close but had never been in until a couple weeks ago. We also discovered they have a lunch special, 2 slices and a soda for $7.00!!

Have been here several times over the years since moving here to Iowa. The pizza is great hands down the best around. What's not so great is the size of the restaurant. Unless you get real lucky be prepared to wait in line for a seat in an awkwardly small area at the door or wait outside and brave the elements. It's a great location so maybe they should consider buying out the space next to them or maybe use the floor upstairs for more seating capacity.

Was visiting from Phoenix and looking for a good place to eat in Marion while were at the Peppermint Walk and found this place in Yelp!. (BTW, love Yelp. My family uses it every time we travel and hasn't let us down yet.) Pizza was excellent and the atmosphere was great.

This place definitely lives up to the hype. The only warning I'd give people heading there for the first time is leave plenty of time to dine. You'll probably have to wait for a table (standing room only by the door) and then wait at least half an hour for your food. Understandable, considering they made food that takes a while to cook. The place is cozy but they have plenty of servers and interesting decor. Overall, it's a must-do for the Cedar Rapids/Marion area.

Good pizza. Very good, actually. The deep-dish is what I usually go for. The service is fine... once you get seated.... which is why I rarely go. If I'm driving by and I see people standing inside the door I keep driving. Waiting like that is not cute and it's not charming, it's annoying, and Tomaso's is practically across the street.

My favorite pizzeria during college. Zoey's is by far the best Chicago Deep Dish Pizza in all of Iowa. I say this with great authority, having spent my college (and mad pizza-consuming) years here. Just make sure to get the Deep Dish. The other stuff isn't so special. The pizzas are made to order, delicious, and the beer they offer is perfect for summer days (or any day, really). If you're not too stuffed from your pizza or calzone make sure to order a PIZOOKIE for dessert.

Zoey's Pizzeria has the best deep-dish Chicago-style pizza that I've ever had, anywhere (including Chicago!). The crust is thick and crunchy, but not too crunchy. The cheese and toppings are piled on in just the right amounts, with a thick layer of chunky, zesty tomato sauce added on top. That's right, the sauce is on top of the cheese. It seems weird at first, but it works out really well. The sauce is flavorful, with fennel and other spices, and has that perfect tangy quality. I've found that a medium deep-dish pizza is usually more than enough for two adults. Beer and wine are available. The only problem with Zoey's is the size. With such good food and such a small dining area, waiting is inevitable. And you have to seat yourself, so prepare for an awkward wait in the (small, drafty) area by the door. Picking up a carry-out order is no less awkward, as you'll have to maneuver around the closely spaced tables to get from the door to the counter. Sometimes I wish Zoey's would get a bigger place or open a second location. Come early, maybe on a weeknight, and it won't be so bad. Awesome pizza, but the dining area is just too small!

Hi, Zoey's is a great pizza place. We always get the New York style with sausage and pepperoni. Some reviewers have commented on the Chicago style to say it's great. Well, the New York style is also really good. The pizza is really distinct and substantial, lots of cheese, good sauce, cheesy, perfect crust to sauce and dough to cheese proportions, and tastes good reheated the next day. I recommend 15 seconds in the microwave followed by 3 minutes in a toaster oven.

I have had mostly great experiences at Zoey's. It is definitely a place where you cannot get in and out quickly. But that is the fun part. The staff is well versed in being casual and the pizza is definitely a good part of the restaurant. Unfortunately waiting for a table is confusing and cramped, but if you can get over that, try Zoey's. And don't forget your Zookie ;).

Zoey's is awesome - a true gem among a culture obsessed with franchises and a "bigger is better" philosophy. The place occupies a corner in downtown Marion, and isn't very big once you get inside - perhaps a dozen tables and booths. They serve both thin crust and Chicago style pizza - I've only had the Chicago style, which is SO good. It could also be called an "inside out" pizza - the mozzarella is on the BOTTOM, and a chunky tomato sauce is on top. This is, to me, the genuine article when it comes to thick-crust pizza pies. Two slices and you'll be finished! (Don't skip the cheese bread, too - I've never seen so much melted cheese in my life!) Service is great and the entire place has a friendly neighborhood vibe. Last night Miles Davis was on the stereo. Beware: if there's a wait, no one bothers to take your name - the management apparently believes that everyone will adhere to the honor system. I had my doubts when I first experienced this on a busy Friday night, but it worked! Rock on, Zoey's.

The pizza is pretty good, maybe up to 4 stars on a good day. Service is a minus 1, therefore two stars overall. They have a very small dining area so it fills up fast. Such was the case when we last stopped in to eat on a regular week night. The last table was just filled so it would be a while before a table turned over. No matter we thought, we'll wait. We looked over the menu as we waited and since we wanted a Chicago style (the menu says allow 45 minutes to cook), I went the counter to put in our order. The woman behind the register asked, "Is this for dine-in or carry-out?" When I said it was for dine-in she replied abruptly, "Sorry, we don't take orders for dine-in." That was rude enough, but I over-looked it and asked why not. She said it wouldn't be fair to the other diners that would be seated after us. Huh?, I asked. "Isn't it in your best interest to turn over the tables as quickly as possible so you can serve more people?" She seemed annoyed at being asked why and said we couldn't order until we were seated. Note we were the only ones waiting for a table. No one has pizza good enough that's worth that type of abuse. We took the hint and walked across the square to Tomaso's where we were immediately seated and treated to an awesome Detroit crust pizza. Zoey's saying should be "Chicago-style pizza, NY-style attitude." My advice fellow yelpers, is skip the attitude and spend your money where your business is truly appreciated. Zoey's Chicago style pizza is the best I've ever had. It's sad because it's ruined my wife and I for getting pizza anywhere else. If it's not Zoey's, it's not worth it. However, Zoey's is just too small. Being able to take more than a few people there can be a nightmare. My advice, order carryout on the phone and enjoy it at home!

Great pizza and I must agree with the other post. Two pieces will do it. I have used this Chicago-style pizza to measure others across the country. Very good. If you ever find yourself in Marion, Iowa, it is worth a stop.

Zoey's is in fierce competition with Tomaso's for best CR pizza (a title they briefly lost when Sienna Pizza existed). There is not enough seating... you may want to go during non-peak hours or be prepared to take your pizza to go.

I personally LOVE Zoey's pizza and always have. Restaurant is very small and a wait is customary unless you get the before prime time. My usual pie of choice is the New York thin. It is laden with copious amounts of cheese and the meats are fresh and gigantic. Most Cedar Rapidians are split between Zoey's and Tomaso's. In my mind there is NO comparison. Try both. I'd rather have a frozen pizza than Tomaso's

Well, if you want great pizza, go to Zoey's. If you don't want to wait forever because they have insufficient seating, there are other good pizza places in the Corridor that can be found. Often, it is not worth the drive to get good pizza here because of the required wait. But, their crust tastes great like Lou Malnati's so I endure the extra costs to eat it occasionally. UPDATE: we were passed over by the hostess after waiting 40 minutes. We would have been passed over TWICE but we spoke up. The seating is very inadequate here. UPDATE II: great pizza

I wanted a good pie on my route for work. Seen that this place had really good reviews and looked nice enough to stop in to eat a sitdown lunch. Sooooo I really just wanted a slice, because I am a slice kinda guy. They said for lunch only, I got there after 3 no slices left or they stopped. Blah to that, why not all day? Oh well. So I ended up ordering a small pizza with pepperoni, I was about $16 out the door with drink. The pizza doesn't take too long to come out after eating it I was not impressed. Cheese-Nothing too special, taste very basic to me. I have had some blends that make me go wow, but this was just very plain to me. Kind of rubbery and slid off very easy, not fun when you eat your pizza in separate parts. Pepperoni-Not the best, they do the underling style instead of topping, so it gets soggy with sauce and not crispy. Sauce- Nothing special, taste alright. Crust- Worst part for me, plain tasting, doughy even though I got NYC style, not really crispy, and no real added flavor to the pizza. I must say this place is not all that it is cracked up to be, as I always admit I am somewhat selective about pizza but I can't say this was one of the best that I've had.

I love coming here. I stop in every time I come to town to visit family. I have yet to find a menu item that isn't great. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Zoey's is the ultimate cozy pizzeria, and has been an awesome go-to spot for me in Marion since I first visited back in 2004. While the menu is not very extensive, their food (especially the pizza) is simply delicious, and the ambiance of the place is just perfect. I would highly recommend this place for grabbing a quick slice of pizza for lunch, having a fun dinner with family/friends, or even going on a romantic dinner date with your significant other. In regards to the food, my favorite two items are the Taco pizza and "The Zoey" pizza, and my wife and I just can't get enough of these. The Taco pizza is, as the name implies, a pizza with taco toppings, specifically cheese, tomato, lettuce, black olives, nacho chips, etc. It might sound kinda strange if you've never had such a thing, but trust me, it is extremely tasty. The Zoey is what you might call a "supreme" pizza, with cheese, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, olives, etc. Both pizzas work extremely well with a nice glass of Merlot or Pinot Noir, which you can order for about $5. Alternatively, if you're more of a beer person, Zoey's has Blue Moon on tap, which they serve with an orange slice (I have yet to find a nicer glass of beer!). The prices are a bit more than I typically like to spend (a small thin-crust pizza runs $15-16), but the food is great, and the atmosphere is *exceptional*. Really, the best thing about Zoey's is it's cozy feel. It's located on a street corner in the Marion Square area, and when you walk inside, it feels a bit like you've been transported back to a downtown pizza shop from the good ol' days. You'll find cute little booths by the windows, with families/couples/friends dining happily, pleasant yet unobtrusive service, and maybe even an old movie playing on TCM via a small TV above the door. The only downside can be the wait. This spot is pretty popular, especially around dinner time (6pm-ish), so you may want to stop by a little early and grab your favorite place to sit. If you do have to wait though, it's usually not very long (at least in my experience), and there's a nice spot to wait right inside the door. All in all, Zoey's is a top-notch pizzeria, so go check it out!

Well to start off this place always seems to be over crowded no matter when I come day or night. And with constant crowd comes poor and confused service. I found myself waiting a long time for water refills, to go boxes and our check at the end of the meal. The pizza isn't bad but I find it to be heavy with red sauce. Just have your standard toppings, nothing special. But we are limited here in Marion so it is worth trying for yourself. Not like there are to many other options! The one great thing I can say about the meal is that the "zookie" is amazing! A huge fresh baked cookie topped with ice cream, whip cream, chocolate, and a cherry on top. That was amazing so save room for it! Parking can sometimes be a pain as well but there seems to be a lot of people coming and going with to go orders and it doesn't take long for a spot to free up.

Many folks state that this is the best pizza, not only in this area, but is even better than the pizza found in Chicago. I'm going to go ahead and disagree with this assessment. The Chicago style is made in the same style of Chicago, however falls short of its namesake. It is not terrible, but can be bested by other pizza restaurants in the area. There is limited seating and getting a table near dinner time is difficult. The wait is pretty significant for the pizza as well (I know deep dish does take longer), especially if busy. We were most dissatisfied with the cost. It was far more expensive than any other pizza joint in the area. The bill really shocked us, to the point that we benchmark other tabs by "The Zoey's Line." Doesn't quite keep up with the original in Chicago both in price and taste.

For pizza...it's great. Deep dish style is what we had...a friend of mine took me there. I was STARVING when we went in....this fat bastard goes out to eat when I am hungry.It was a 45 min wait for our order...and there were only 2 other people in the place when we went in.So PLAN on the wait for good food this time. This is due to the deep dish double crust custom ordered pizza. It was GREAT....well worth the wait...but don't go there when you are starving.That is not to discount this place-I would rather wait for good food like this...than get quick crap :-) Nice place.Nice people.Great pizza. 17$ for a small...but WORTH it!

Its a tough call between Zoey's and Tomaso's but I still give the end to Zoey's. Love the New York thin, but the deep dish is good too, just not something I want every time. Don't forget to save room for a Zookie, its not on the menu but a great skillet cookie with ice cream.

If you like authentic pizza joints, enjoy the smells and the local vibe - this place is for you. I went yesterday for the first time, after hearing about it for as long as I've lived in Iowa, and it lived up to my expectations. Solid food, great service and lots of drink options. My new favorite Chicago-style pizza in the area!

Zoeys Chicago Style pizza is literally my favorite food on this earth. And yes, I've eaten at almost all the Chicago pizza joints. The NY style is pretty solid as well. Taco is great to, if you are a sour cream can. Only downside is its size ... occasionally there is a wait. But the pizza is so good I cant give it anything other than 5 stars.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! What a cozy little pizzeria in an adorable side of town! I ordered a large Chicago deep dish and definitely had leftovers for the next day! The crust is perfect! With just the right amount of cheese on the bottom and piled high with tomatoes on top! I miss Zoey's so much! Oh and the staff is super friendly too and they had a great selection of beer! I came on a weeknight and still had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Well worth the wait!

Decent enough. Had the taco, the cheese, and the deep dish pep. All tasty. Very casual, one single open room that holds maybe 12 to 15 tables. A beer, a Pepsi, and the three small pizzas set me back $56.00 with the 8 dollar tip. Nice waitress, clean, slightly slow service but not too slow. Quaint location with parking close by. No outdoor dining, which would have been wonderful in this charming town square part of Marion.

I have family in Marion and we go here almost every time we're in town. The pizza is super delicious - sauce is the right amount of of spices and they put plenty of cheese and toppings on. Zookie's are PERFECT, but make sure you have someone to share. The only complaints I have are probably just me being picky - the breadsticks aren't my favorite (but I still eat them) and I don't like the ham pieces (too big, under the cheese, makes the cheese slip off). We are a huge party (generally 8-12 people, depending on who all came to town), but we call ahead to find out how busy it is and to let them know we're coming and generally go during slow times. Waiting can be tedious (and cramped), but the service is excellent and the food is great.

Very populuar pizza place in the Cedar Rapids area. Isn't a huge place and has often been busy when I've been there. Food is very good and a great option if you are looking for Chicago or New York style pizza. A little pricier than your chain pizza, but worth it for a treat.

I love Zoey's, it is my favorite deep dish in Iowa. Since I don't get to Chicago too often, Zoey's is my choice for deep dish. This is a great little place. But, word has gotten out, so you might want to get their early so you can get a seat. I highly recommend the Chicago Style deep dish pizza.

All right Pizza lovers, this one's for you. Zoey's is the best pizza in Marion. There's not much selection besides chains, but even if there were, this is number one in my mind. Zoey's is small, sure, and parking's limited, but it's all worth it. Let me first say, if you want a table by 5:30, you better be there at 4:45-5:00 because this joint fills up fast, and does so for a reason. My favorite, my usual, is the Zoey on Chicago crust. The Zoey has just about everything, ham, pepperoni, sausage, olives, peppers, onions, cheese, sauce on top. You could feed a family of 6 with one pizza. Next, for dessert eat the Zookie. It's a giant cookie coated in ice cream and whipped cream. Even though one large Zoey on Chicago crust is $25, you won't regret spending even a penny of that. You may think I'm ranting and raving, but it's honest. I've been going to this place for many years and I've never, ever had a bad meal. This is a place to take relatives visiting or go after a game. Not to mention the decor is, shall we say, interesting. It's an eclectic taste of the 1960s. I love Zoey's.

OK Zoey's isn't bad. It isn't great, and it's better than any chain in town (except for maybe Happy Joe's, which has a soft spot in my heart.) The place is always packed with ex-pats in Marion who don't know a real pizza place if they fell through the window of one. The Chicago style fits the bill if your in a pinch, but why would you drive into Marion for any reason, especially for a pizza you can get better elsewhere? If you live there, head to Tomaso's for a Chicago or Detroit style (which you won't regret.) Yes the sauce is OKand the crust is fine and the toppings are plentiful, but not worthwhile enough to visit the location and certainly not the standard it and it's locals claim it to be.
