Hrmmm....I'm wavering on this one. I lean towards a low-ish 3 for the "tavern," which, in case you weren't aware, is a loosemeats sandwich. Not really my thing, but apparently an exemplary sample of a loosemeats. I do realize, however, that I had a completely bastardized version of the loosemeats when I ordered it with lettuce. I know I know, WTF was I thinking?! Anyway, I have a hunch that I likely wouldn't have dug it without the lettuce, too, considering um...loose meat is just kind of...um...gross. That aside, the malt here was DELICIOUS and ginormous and only $2. The cheese balls (which are essentially fried cheese curds) were awesomeness in all their non-greased up, cholesterol-skyrocketing, heart attack-inducing perfection. You heard me -- NOT greased up. *gasp* Also, (dare I say it...?) I thought the cheese balls were better than...cheese curds had in WISCONSIN. *throws down the gauntlet* You heard me! BETTER! HA! Anyway, overall I'd say this place is pretty awesome for a road-side, road-trip staple. And heck, let's face it: if you survive as a divey kind of place in small-ish town Iowa for 50 years, you've gotta be servng something that keeps 'em coming back for more.
My Dad grew up in Lemars and always bragged about Bob's Drive-Inn hot dogs. I had my first Bob's hot dog as a small child and loved it! Since then I have moved and traveled throughout the world and never had a better hot dog. My husband and were visiting Lemars a few years ago and stopped in to try the hot dogs to see if they were still as unique and tasty as I remembered. They were.... My husband went nuts over them. No place since has compared to the wonderful tasting hot dogs we had at Bob's. We have tried to find better. My husband is now a corporate CEO of a large fashion company out of New York and LA. He still to this day brags about Bob's Drive-Inn in Lemars, Iowa! Long live Bob's Dogs! They say that some things never change...let's hope that Bob's is one of them.
Bobs has been a staple in our family since my parents were little! It's the best! We love the taverns and the hot dogs with meat sauce! The buns are always fresh and quality is amazing! The staff are always friendly and its remained the same for as long as I can remember! Thanks Bobs!

If your looking for great coffee at affordable prices this is the place. The staff is super friendly and always make you feel special even when they are busy. The raspberry white chocolate scones are my favorite, but all of the baked goods are wonderful. The drive thru is nice especially in the cold weather.
What a cute place! I was visiting a friend from Le Mars during the week and she was sure to take me to her favorite local cafes. This was our first stop for lunch. Let me just say that looks can be deceiving. In particular the facade of this place is misleading, because inside it's nice and cozy and extremely inviting. The seating area is lovely, and there are a few comfy sections with cozy leather furniture and dark wood bookshelves stocked with books. There are booths and tables, too, to more easily enjoy a meal if you're not just reading and sipping on coffee. I had a bread boat with cheese soup and a special-flavored coffee for around $5. Not too shabby! I wish we had more places like this in Los Angeles! I'd love to come back if I'm in town again.
Good coffee and good service. Stay for a sandwich, they are worth it. The redone furniture in the shopping area is really unique as well.

Everything about this place is perfection......including the wood paneling. I hope they never change that, since its either the same or close to same as when I first started going here 35 years ago. The dinner salads are very fresh and tasty. When I go its usually with a group of 5-7, so when normally get the appetizer sampler. It's good and works for that size group. And, the Mexican cheese ball appetizer is usually added. Wow...these are special. The steaks are really amazing. I usually order mine with extra seasoning. The service is great as well. If you are in the area definitely plug this one into the GPS. This could be my all time #1 spot.
I feel compelled to disclose that I am originally from LeMars so I have some bias, but I have eaten at my fair share of steakhouses around the country, and all the "best" in Atlanta, and there simply is no comparison. Forget about the price/value of these cuts. (I don't want to ruin it for my hometown peeps, but these steaks in any major city would go for $60 - $80, easily $100+ in NYC). Needless to say, you'll get your money's worth at $20-$25. Believe it or not, the sides are included. Nothing fancy about the sides, but that's not why you're there. The non-steak dishes are pretty decent as well. The fried shrimp is probably the best non-steak dish. They're not the little guys either. They're good-sized prawns, batter-fried, and quite flavorful. However, unless you are opposed to beef, don't miss this opportunity to have one of the best cuts of meat you'll ever have. I usually try to measure steakhouses by how they prepare the strip, and Archie's can do a strip with anyone. However, get the tenderloin (med-rare, of course). It is ridiculous. The picture on their website is accurate. I've seen them as big as softballs. The cuts are (unadvertised) dry-aged, which makes them very dense and flavorful. Very little seasoning is applied, and not needed. As some of the previous reviews commented, the decor is tacky and old, however, it is part of what makes Archie's special. If they remodeled or redecorated, it just wouldn't be Archie's. The staff and locals that frequent Archie's are also what make this place special. Won't find nicer people. I don't know what prompted only 4 stars from the reviews below, but this place is 5 stars, no doubt about it.
I agree with Audry. I had dinner there recently and it still has the wood-paneling and stuff, but the steak was good and they have pretty good wines too. I got a tour of the place (even the kitchen) and they have a huge freezer in the back where they store a LOT of beef and cut their own steaks... It is not the kind of place where things are brought in already prepared. They do it all in their kitchen. I saw them prepping lobster as well, not sure how that tastes but our whole group enjoyed their meal.

Guess I will have to give them 4 stars again. You can't go wrong when all you order is sausage biscuits and a large coffee. Sausage patty was large and the biscuit was rather small but still tasted good and that's what matters.

Let's get something straight, Red Hanke is no club BUT, it's a cool neighborhood bar given the choices at hand. The top three best qualities of the Hanke that set it apart: 1. The shear amount of gaming options available (Pool, Darts - two setups, Shuffle Board, Video Games, Video Poker and A Small Basketball Court. 2. The Killer Jukebox. You can literally download almost ANY song in print. Sick of listening to AC/DC or Country Music over and over AND Over again? You can pay extra to bump your songs to the top of the cue! The jukebox then serves as YOUR torture device for the night Baby!!! Can you say Classical?!?!

I meant to leave this review ages ago, but better late than never! My fianceé and I came in for Valentine's Day, with no reservation, and the place was pretty much packed. There were some people waiting to be seated and we were told it would be about a 40 minute wait. We were seated in about 20 minutes. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I decided to order (with much trepidation) the pork chop. Now, I used to work at a steakhouse, and we had a very good pork chop, but no one bought it. It is really hard to sell pork in restaurants, because not many people like it, and it's easier to screw up than a lot of people think. The pork chop I had at Four Brothers was the best pork chop I have had in my entire life. It was juicy, well-seasoned, and presented beautifully. I literally sucked on the bone after I was done. I had a picture of the chop and the empty plate, but that phone bit the dust. This was my second time at Four Brothers, while the first time was good, the second time will stick with me until and if I ever get a better restaurant pork chop.
This was an okay restaurant. My Santa Fe salad was good. Salsa was on the high end of medium but went well with the ranch dressing and I liked it. The waitress was nice and also busy serving many booths but she still paid the right amount of attention to our needs. It sits next to the Holiday Inn Express and is very convenient if you happen to be a guest there.
The service we've had every time is great. Helpful, hard working and smiling carrying lots of trays all the time. The food can be so-so, the last hamburger I had was overcooked and tasteless, and the amount of avocado in the Santa Fe salad was pitiful, but most of the rest of the time it's been fine. If the food does not suit you, send it back. The kitchen can be slip-shod at times. Enjoy!

I have eaten at several of these so called fast food establishments. Been to them in Ca., Nv., SD., and in Utah. I really can't say much for the food. The service in most of them was ok. The last one was this one here in Iowa. And I can honestly say that it is the last time I will ever stop at a Taco Bell. I remember back in the 80's when the food was actually good. Guess they are like all fast (?) food places. Just pay me and either eat it or throw it.
