The Bostick Guest House is a treasure right across from the University of Iowa campus and blocks from downtown Iowa City. These historic homes (check out their website for the different houses) are elegant, yet are not stuffy. The beds are comfortable and the bathrobes were fluffy. The owners are gracious hosts, more than willing to meet your needs. It's not a bed & breakfast - instead, it's more of an inn. Either way, we'd love to stay there again!

I now want to stay in a B&B like this everywhere I go! The owners are so friendly and you can tell they enjoy hosting. Breakfast is wonderful. They make all of the baked goods themselves! Impressive! They have a great selection of tea for breakfast, and in the hall upstairs for anytime. Each afternoon there is a plate of cookies waiting in the hallway. I felt like a spoiled kid in the 60's who got to come home to fresh baked cookies. Price is excellent, especially considering the location. The room was in excellent condition. Very charming, and clean. The bed was very comfortable and plush. I enjoyed climbing into the big bed each night. I am so glad they put in the extra effort to preserve the home's historic charm. The big woodwork and hardwood floors remind me of my sister house, which makes it feel just like home. If I'm every back in Iowa City, I will definitely stay at the Brown Street Inn! If you get a chance to, take advantage of the rocking chairs on the front porch.
I would like to graciously send thanks to my hosts of last night. My partner and I on a whim decided to make a mini vacation out of driving home from her parents house, and we left Mark feeling absolutely elated. From my initial phone call to book the room to our salutations upon leaving after a wonderful breakfast, I felt as if I was being treated by an old friend. The space is gorgeous, the accommodations personalized, and while affording us as much privacy as we wanted, the warmth of communal environment in the parlor and at the dining room table was such a pleasure. Thank you again for such a wonderful end to a busy weekend.
Mark and Bob have made our wedding day so special and Brown Street Inn now has a special place in our hearts. We feel blessed to have spent our wedding day here after 15 years waiting to be married. Thank you for all you have done to add magic to our day. We recommend Brown Street Inn to anyone who wishes to celebrate a special day.

Best pizza in Iowa City. I have only had the Chicago Style and Flying tomato. Having grown up in the suburbs of chicago and eating Giordanos and Lou Malnatis i've been spoiled by great deep dish. This is the only place that can cure my hunger but only for a little while.
They always have pick-up ready on time or early. Lots of cheese, great toppings. It's a little pricey, but worth it in the long run. Try the Special!
I visited my friends in Iowa and thank goodness they brought us to this little gem! I like the dim pub like atmosphere. The service was fast and friendly. You have to order Moscow Mules--- the best in the world! And served in copper mugs to keep it super chill! We ordered the wings which were delicious! I'm not usually a fan of sauce but I loved the Thai chili that we ordered! The pizza was deep and cheesy and the cheese fries were great! All 4 of us were so full of we had to take most of the pizza home.

This restaurant is truly a star in Iowa City restaurant landscape. The food, the presentation, the friendly owners and staff, and the affordable prices will have you coming back again and again. We discovered this little restaurant upon the recommendation of several of our neighbors. After hearing the name repeated, we knew we had to give it a try. Boy, are we glad we did! When we walked in, we were welcomed warmly by the staff. The owner and his wife also alternate at the counter. Their pride in their establishment shows in the manner in which they treat their customers, both old and new. We ordered two savory lunch crepes and a dessert crepe, as well as their house-made mint tea to wash them down. The tea was excellent. So flavorful that no sweetener was needed. The refreshing sweetness of the mint was more than enough. After ordering, we were quickly seated, even though the restaurant was packed upon our arrival. Not long after, our savory crepes arrived. The presentation was lovely. These were just crepes folded in half and tossed on a plate. They were intricately folded in a manner to appeal to our visual senses. I ordered the Roma, a delicious crepe packed with spinach, sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese, turkey (it comes with chicken but they graciously substituted turkey for me), and drizzled in a kind of pesto ailoli. It was incredible. Every bite was perfect. Truthfully, I was originally worried because sometimes sun dried tomatoes can overwhelm a dish, but not these! They complemented the dish without over powering it. Hubby ordered the daily crepe special which included asparagus and turkey bacon with cheese. He loved it. He had never tried a crepe before and was impressed. As we left, he told me he knew we would be back often. Sadly, the asparagus crepe will not be on the menu long because asparagus is going out of season in Iowa, but we will be looking forward to its return next summer! After our plates were cleared, our dessert crepe, the Valentin, arrived. Again, the presentation was flawless, beautifully cut and arranged with dusting of powdered sugar and thin sliced strawberries on top. The inside featured creamy, chocolately nutella with thin strawberry slices layered in. So yummy, I'm practically drooling as I type. And, the icing on the crepe...reasonable prices.
I've never had a crepe from here that I didn't like! The classics like Valentin and Money Treat provide that Nutella goodness you want in a crepe. The savory options are excellent also! They have also upgraded to booths, which I prefer much more than the tables they had previously. The owners are usually working, so this place has a great local vibe. Every IC native should eat here at least once.
atmosphere and service is great. food is awesome. Since this is my first time here I asked them to recommend. The only one I remember is Roma. But they are all great. Very nice crepes

Oh man, this place is good at what it does. Just be prepared for what you will get, which is big, heavy food. The meats and cornbread are delicious, as are the sauces that come with it. When I went here as a vegetarian, I really enjoyed the portobello sandwich as well.
best bbq i ever 8. i didnt know what to get so i asked one of the girls at the counter, i think her name was janey or jenny (i dont remember lol), what the best thing on the menu is and she recommended the sampler for my first time. i ordered ribs, sausage, and brisket with fries and slaw. ITS SOO GOOD OMFG. the cowboy sauce, carolina vinegar, and the pickles/onions are the best. the only things i would change about jimmy jacks would be the uncomfortable wooden seating and the confined feeling i experienced in the dining room. while i was eating the same girl who helped me order returned and made sure i was enjoying my dinner. she even refilled my drink and brought me extra napkins! i offered to tip her but she politely declined and continued assisting other customers. this girl needs to be in management, she knows how to make ppl feel at home! restaurant was very clean and all the staff seemed really happy. 10/10 will recommend and go again!
Great BBQ for Iowa City, with friendly, welcoming staff and a family atmosphere! Worth stopping in for their corn bread alone. It comes slathered and dripping with sweet honey, dense and slighty moist. No corn inside, though, if you like it that way. And, it's not made cast-iron style, but it's damn delicious nevertheless. I had the lean brisket dinner, which includes a sandwich, two sides of your choice, and that damned tasty corn bread. The sandwich is plenty big for me - I couldn't even finish it all - but if you want, you can make it supreme size, which is a King Kong portion of beef. You order, grab your number, and choose your own BBQ sauce - regular, cowboy, mustard-based - and they bring it to your table. For sides, I had french fries - okay but not particularly inspiring - and, baked beans. The beans were an unfortunate miss for me. I don't like large chunks for onions in my beans, and I don't understand the use of kidney beans in my baked beans, but maybe this is just a regional thing that I'm just not gonna love (like mashed potatoes in my burritos - which fortunately they don't even have here). Honestly, the flavor of the beans - the saucy part - was just great. And, it did have meat - pork, I think - in it, of which I am a fan. So even with the kidney beans, and the onion chunks, I would still recommend it and even eat it again. Though, I will be the weirdo picking out the large onion pieces carefully before I dig in. Truth - I like the place and will be back.

We made a pit stop in Iowa City on our way back from Dubuque. This little place was hip, and delivered just what I was craving- a burger. I liked the small menu, the great helpful and friendly staff. Also what a great idea to have one burger, but add extras onto it. Even my SIL didn't know this place existed- and she lives in IA city. Yelp helped me find the place and off we went! Cute design inside to make it feel like you are on a train- or a Pullman car. Very hip place and we recommended it to family that lives in the area.
Great lunch menu with breakfast options, nice beer selection with local and national craft on tap. Good portions, great flavors, friendly staff, loved the atmosphere. I can see it being pricey for college students but it was a great place for us to pop in for lunch and a pint while visiting Iowa City from Vancouver. $48 for turkey sandwich, add fries, steak frites, and two beers.
Well designed, terrific menu, excellent execution. Bar is on par with the kitchen. Elevated comfort food, the food quality far exceeds standards for typical IC fare. Perfect interpretation of affordable luxury.

I drive at least ten miles out of my way and deal with a crammed parking garage for this gem. Consistently fresh, well-priced, and freakin delicious. The same two guys have been running this place for years. Don't judge a book by its cover! The food is incredible.
College town sushi for students. Nothing against the sushi, it's not bad at all. I went to a lot of the top notch Japanese restaurants and was perfectly aware of what I was going into when eat at Sushi Kicchin. Where the stars lost has to do with the follow things: - Service suck ball big time. The dude there was more busy chatting with buddies who ended up giving 5 stars on yelp then actually roll his damn rice. Lots and lots of waiting, lots and lots of clock ticking. - Hygiene. Kinda like the don't ask don't tell policy, I should've not sit there by the bar and waiting for the sushi roller to bullshit with his friends, because that directed my attention to the little fish fridge/display. Seeing the condensate dripping on seemingly fresh fish suddenly activated my OCD-ness, for about 15 minutes. Rolls were okay quality, but ain't cheap by no mean, and sadly I watched the rusty-fridged fish being made in front of my eyes. Yek!!
Very good sushi bar to order take-out sushi. Two sushi makers are good and professional in sushi making. Spider roll is even better than those in some dine-in restaurants. Small rolls, like spicy salmon, are tasty too. There was one time I did not feel good after I had their sushi and my friend told me Sushi Kitchen may not have very fresh sushi everyday during summer/winter vacation due to the fact that students are not in town any more and the inventory may stay longer in their kitchen. My friend did not feel good twice after having their sushi during vacation months. Not sure if it happens lot to other customers or not.

I love this place! During the school year I would always pop in for a Scotch-a-roo! The staff is very friendly and personable, I feel comfortable going to Z'Mariks with a big group or just by myself!
This place is awesome, noodle or rice bowls made to your liking and bottled local beer to boot. Also super affordable, for $15 I had 2 beers and a large bowl of noodles w/chicken. The food exceeded my expectations, chicken freshly grilled, herbs nice and chilled, noodles perfectly cooked. So good I just signed up with yelp to leave this review, a special thanks to yelp for helping me find this place!!!
Pretty average noodle place that is basically a local version of Noodles and Company. Not a lot of flavor.

Classic place to go for a frozen treat! Really love the authentic feel of this location!
Guys, what's going on. You used to be a beloved staple of our neighborhood, a place we'd visit for our usual blizzards several times a month. Then last night, two terrible things happened. First, you no longer have graham cracker pie crust bits, but instead are using WHOLE wafer-style cookies?! These are not comparable, and the result is disheartening at best. Then, to make matters worse, you added coconut to a banana cream pie blizzard. What the what?? WHY, Dairy Queen, why must you crush our dreams and thumb your nose at our delicate taste buds?
I love that this old spot reopened after the flood of 2008 & is still open!!! Places like this make me miss home :) There are always happy & friendly people that work here! Never a disappointment!
