Not sure how many hundreds of fat grams and calories just entered my body, but I just could not tear myself away from eating every single fried pita chip and every last scoop of the homemade hummus that constituted my "side" of hummus. I am totally full and satisfied from the perfectly crunchy and salty chips dunked in the smooth, well seasoned hummus. My huge "small" gyro sits in front of me still wrapped in its foil. Lunch tomorrow. Pita'z runs a smooth business and has successfully figured out how to take orders, deliver food, and handle long lunch lines. Overflow seating is available at the adjacent coffee shop, but many people are taking their food to go. Lots of veggie options will make your mixed lunch buddy group happy. And they serve Coke products. WIN! I need to come back here more often.

I've been coming to this spot for years and am ashamed that I've never taken the time to write a review. Maybe it's because I fail to venture far from my favorites on the menu. On my first visit, I had the typical gyro and a side of hummus (good but not earth shattering). Then the following visit I tried the chicken shwarma...and never turned back. It only took me a couple of bites to get over the fact that they put french fries and pickle on their wrap. (Yes, I said FRENCH FRIES!) At first glance, I thought "Sheer blasphemy! Americanized Mediterranean food! How can this be good?" Well Americanized or not, it's Delicious!! My usual is the small chicken shwarma platter with a Mediterranean salad in the side. The salad (Romain with tomatoes, red onion, cucumber and vinaigrette was simple but extreemly fresh and the perfect accompaniment. They also have a frequent dinners program utilizing "Belly". It's an handy smart phone app so you'll be likely to have it on hand!

I love this place! Their chicken shwarmas are amazing and their gyros are delicious! They're very nice and quick to get your food made - but it is always done as ordered. No food sitting under warmers here. Would definitely suggest!

Not bad. Service is great, prices are fair. Pita is the very thin type, but good. Mediterranean salad is dressed absolutely perfectly. Falafel is too spicy for my taste but the texture is acceptable. I have to agree with a previous reviewer--it's good but not great. I will stop in if I'm hungry and nearby, but won't drive out of my way like I will for Zaytoon or Oasis in IC.

I've had many items from their menu over the years and overall everything is good but not great. The two things that have really stood out are the babba ganoush and garlic sauce. Both some of the best I've ever had. The restaurant is a bit of a dive. The staff is friendly.

Excellent Gyros. Great hummus, but I recommend the bread and not the chips. $10 got me a large gyro and hummus with either bread or chips. Authentic and yummy stuff! Lots on the menu!

I feel like the owners of Pita'z have the unfortunate fate of being really good Mediterranean cooks in an area where people aren't all that exposed to Mediterranean food. I say that because they make absolutely awesome gyros (with lamb that isn't at all dry / stringy and the perfect ratio of meat to other fillings), but then they have odd menu items like philly cheesesteak, which I can only assume are attempts to appease less adventurous eaters. I'll definitely be back, because the gyros were awesome, and they have plenty of other true Mediterranean options. I just think it's a shame that a place like this needs to put a cheeseburger on the menu where a lamb tagine should be, because nobody in Cedar Rapids would order lamb tagine.

Chicken Shawarma! Served with fries and pickles. The BEST thing I've eaten in Iowa. I will go back here as much as possible and bring as many friends/family as I can.

I've been there several times, but what I recently found that I REALLY liked is the double gyro cheeseburger. It has two beef patties (ostensibly a quarter pound each, of the smaller, thicker variety - I think they are frozen rather than fresh, but still tasty and juicy) and a similar amount (maybe slightly less) of gyro meat on top of each one, and each layer has a slice of American cheese. Not for the faint of heart, but REALLY tasty - the roasted, slightly spicy flavor of the gyro really adds to the more basic burger flavor, yielding a sandwich that is quite tasty and satisfying. Of course they have a wide variety of menu items (many of which are far healthier than this one), and certainly aren't anyone's idea of a "greasy spoon", but the double gyro burger makes this a place I can go when I'm legitimately hungry and in a carnivorous mood, but still want something a little out of the ordinary.

Nice place for lunch. I had the Greek salad with gyro meat and some falafel. It was all tasty and expeditious. Friendly service. Seems like a popular lunch time place.

The more I eat here, the more I like it. I'm bumping them up a star. I've had several sandwiches now and so far the Shish Tawook and Chicken Gyro are my favorites. The Shish Tawook can be very messy with the lemon/oil/garlic marinade dripping out. I order it spicy ( w/ Frank's red hot sauce) and ask for the fries on the side rather than in the sandwich as it usually comes. I just don't like my fries soggy. The sandwiches (and most other menu items come in two sizes, large ($6.50) and small ($4.99). The large is big enough for two people. If you share, it's actually a pretty good value. The hummus is pretty good but I don't care for their falafel, it's just too plain and dry. The fries are good, just $1.95 for a generous size order. Free Wi-Fi from the coffee shop next door. I plan to try the salads sometime, the Greek salad sounds good.

This place is a bit pricey for the quality of food it serves, but their baba ganoush smokey, creamy, and rich. One of the best I've ever had. Their hummus is also delicious, which is essential for me when it comes to Mediterranean food. Their pita bread is a bit thin and not quite as soft and fluffy as I'd prefer, but that is just my personal preference. Their falafel were seasoned and cooked well, although they are bit dense....to be fair, I am comparing the falafel to the heavenly falafel at Oasis in Iowa City so I might be judging them a bit more harshly than I should. I do like how they serve fresh, homemade pita chips with each order, so make sure to get a side of hummus or baba ganoush to scoop them with! It is nice to have fresh, Mediterranean food within a reasonable distance for takeout on busy nights, so I give them props for doing something different and giving several vegetarian options.

Yummy Yummy little gem in Hiawatha. Ordered a work lunch from there- unfortunately they had driver issues so we didn't get it until 1:30 but it was yummy and worth the wait. Ordered a second time a week later- same issue so had to order elsewhere but definitely still a fan.

The best Mediterranean food I have ever had. Baba Ganoosh is awesome! Really liked the Shish Tawook too. Have it spicy. Not really spicy hot as much a few extra flavors. Really good.

Shish tawook spicy look no further great food. Hummus prepared daily and is very good, I prefer their Mediterranean salad. Can't go wrong

I've only had the gyro plate (gyro meat with choice of sides) and I thought the gyro meat was some of the best I've ever had. This place probably only deserves three stars, but I feel like I should give them a bump for doing Mediterranean food in CR. The reason I am wavering is because the last time I ate there they ran out of rice, which was really annoying, especially since I had invited a guest to lunch with me and this place was my choice. Rice is as much of a staple for that kind of food as it is for Chinese food, so imagine if your local Chinese told you they were out of rice. I would def go back for the gyros, but wouldn't tolerate another rice incident ;)

If you're fan of Mediterranean food you'll like Pitaz. I got the large Mediterranean salad and added gyro. It was huge, which is a big deal for someone with an insatiable appetite like me. The gyro was tender and they weren't stingy with it. It's close to my hotel, so I'll be back many times.

The thing about this place is the food isn't bad. It's nothing to go nuts about, but for what it is, it's not bad and I would have got with 3 stars. What brings it down a star is the way they deal with coupons/promotions. I don't mind that they follow the fine print, but they are just flat out rude when telling you the orders that don't match the discounts. I had a buy a sandwich and a drink and get a sandwich free and thought I could just get the combo and receive the free sandwich. Next thing I know, I was charged the sandwich and fries individually to raise the price; without telling me she rang it up that way. I didn't figure it out until after I paid. Proper service should have been "sorry, you can't do that with a combo but I can do [...] instead." Either way, that left a poor taste in my mouth and started going there more sparingly now.

a little surprised at the higher rating, had the gyro, not terrible, but also not something to rave about, the baba ganoosh was good, but really don't like the bread they have, it's too thin and tough, cost was also a little higher than it should have been in my opinion

I had the gyro w/ baba ganoush. I had never had baba ganoush before and have nothing to compare it to. It was good. reminds me of hummus and came with pitas to dip. The gyro was huge. It was good but I also prefer the smaller, softer pitas. The meat and tzatziki sauce was good. Nice and clean building. The prices were a little high for what you get but still enjoyed the food. $9 for gyro w 1 side and fountain soda.
