This is, without a doubt,THE MOST FAVORITE place of mine and my wife's to eat! All you can eat, reliable menu, and they keep stuff stocked. And yet, there is variety. It has a killer lunch, and for holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas there's no way you could possibly make the food is cheap as you pay for it! The staff is always helpful, and very courteous. And sometimes they even speak English. It's worth the trade off! I like the fact that I can go get my own drink whenever I want to instead of having to wait for a waiter to come by and ask me if I want to refill, and then wait for the waiter to come back with my drink is plenty of reason enough for this to be one of my favorites, actually the favorite place to eat.

Before this place was bought by the company behind Old Country Buffet, it "stood out" in a sense amongst other similar concepts in town. Now that its been folded into the Buffets Inc. fold, it has lost the luster it had. You used to be able to order a steak to go along with the buffet (similar to Bonanza), but that concept is gone now, leaving just the buffet. They frequently send out coupons as part of those mailers that show up in your mailbox each month, this time they had a $5.99 lunch offer. Very few entrees to choose from--fried and baked chicken, some pot roast, and some type of baked fish. I think they had popcorn shrimp, but it wasn't identified. Many side dishes, but nothing too filling. The lady serving my table, Debra didn't say one word to me the entire time I was there, despite me speaking to her. She was more than happy to have a conversation with the other geriatrics that were there however. I felt like she ignored me due to my youthful appearance. If you want a restaurant with a similar concept, I'd go to Bonanza. I've always received wonderful service there.

As a steakhouse buffet, Ryan's was pretty disappointing. I know that Ryan's is run by the same company as Old Country Buffet, but I feel Ryan's has less selection and a more cramped buffet. Some of the food did not look so appetizing, but for the most part everything was o.k. My real issue is that besides three types of chicken (two of which were fried) there was not much else in terms of meat on the buffet. Besides that the ambiance was actually a little better than old country buffet and service was nothing too special, but staff was for the most part friendly. Overall, it is o.k., but there are better options out there.

Food was terrible. Despite the price I paid for 35.00 for three people the quality of service and cleanliness was despicable. Our chairs were dirty and we cleaned our own table. The food was awful and i had to walk around many times to find something to eat. I wont be returning ever

I believe Ryan's is operated under the same organization as Old Country Buffet, and their layout and food is almost identical. They have good selection of food and good quality. They are usually busy and special holidays with very large groups of families eating here. Their steak here is good , but nothing that stands out in terms of taste. Staff is friendly and the area is kept clean. I've eaten here multiple times and never had a bad experience.

Smelled bad (like urine) right when we walked in and we almost left on instinct but decided to give it a try, (wished we would've left). Not very clean, food was mediocre, selection was mediocre. Staff was not friendly, and it was overpriced. Disappointed as buffets are hard to find.

I just had the breakfast buffet and it was atrocious. They've really went downhill in the past couple of years. I'm never coming back!!!

This was my first and will be my only time at Ryan's. I did not have super high expectations bug when they do not even keep ribs out on the cutting board(the feature of the night), it makes me wonder if they care about the customers experience. Food was greasy pork chops were rubbery nothing tasted fresh at all. One start is too high of a rating.

I've eaten here many times only because buffets are hard to find around des moines. The food is mediocre. Some items are pretty good like ham, mashed potatoes and gravy......but hard is it to screw items like those up anyway ? Other foods are normally pretty bad like their hashbrowns ( even cheesy hashbrowns ). But my only real complaint is the cleanliness. I ALWAYS see dust hanging off the ceiling light fixtures and the grates on the heating and cooling ducts. But I suppose if one looks hard enough you can find dust and dirt about anywhere and when you handle the same food utensils that everyone else handles to fill your plate, well, there's an illness just waiting to happen, so that alone makes the dust seem minor. I guess the bottom line is that you can always eat your moneys worth here. I've always found the staff to be friendly and certainly never rude. That is quite an accomplishment considering the slobs that they have to clean up after.
