This has to be THE best deli in Iowa. Great variety of menu options with many healthy choices. It is big, so if you have mobility issues, bring your walker!

Food is amazing, price is a little high. That's the only reason it isn't rated five stars. Great soups and sandwiches!

Came here for the first time today for lunch. Very different place than I thought it would be. There are many food items to choose from, sandwiches, soups, cold salad items, etc. It was confusing to me to figure out where to start ordering the food, but I eventually got it. There were many people eating here during lunch, it was packed, but we still found a table. We got a reuben sandwich, broccoli cheddar soup, and chicken cordon bleu sandwich. It was all excellent and they brought it out very quickly. The atmosphere of the location seems to be a bunch of coworkers stopping by to eat lunch before heading back to work. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes, it all looks so appetizing.

Lots of great options, but I love the Caesar salad and brownies. Don't forget a brownie - even if you take it home. You won't regret it!

Fresh! Excellent deli sandwiches, salads and bakery items. Couldn't imagine getting tired of going here with all the variety. Passing through the area but will definitely visit again!

Ate lunch here today with a friend. I had a JP something sandwich, which was good. My friend had a Rueben that he said was well made. Nice atmosphere and comfortable decor. The staff could use some help with being more friendly. The two guys working at the sandwich station did greet us, but that was it. No instruction where to go to pay or conversation. The young lady at the register turned her back to me as I walked up and made me wait while she folded some napkins. I'll be back, but only because the food is good.

Great sandwiches and salads. My only beef is with the relatively high noise level. But, the food makes up for the noise level.

I love this deli. I came here a week ago with a friend and ordered the Marshall Field! The sandwich was BIG (next time I would order a half sandwich), made quickly, and very flavorful. It had roasted turkey, ham, bacon, Swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, lettuce, 1000 island dressing, and marble rye bread! I also tried their scotcharoo bars... YUM! My whole meal was under ten dollars. I wish I lived closer because I would definitely come back.

At least for a Palmer's location! I stopped in just this past Wednesday for lunch and remembered the days this used to be the location of an old grocery store my friend worked at some 10 or so years ago. Can I say upgrade? This is the nicest Palmer's. The food is on par with all the other locations but this one offers a more open, airy, sit down restaurant that is easy to utilize. And the brownies are so good!

Unbelievably poor customer service every time I come in here. Tonight it was the following: They close up shop at 8:00 pm...I walk in at 7:45. Not a soul greeted me or acknowledged that I was even in the shop (there were three employees within 20 feet of me and not a single customer in the restaurant). This was the least engaged, least welcoming work force I have ever seen in a retail/food operation. I understand you're closing in 15 minutes, but come on! Me: Hey, you guys are still open, right? Girl behind the counter (apparently thinking that I might just leave or not want any food): Uhhh...yeah, I guess...did you want to get something? Me: Yep, two salads...(order proceeds) Girl: (hollering back to another employee) Come make his other salad! Girl in back: Why can't you?! Girl: Because I'm making his other salad! A back and forth ensued until the second girl finally came out to make the salad. Clearly, neither salad was prepared with any love or care. Dressing was spilled on the to- go box and wasn't cleaned up. There was no eye contact, no appreciation for the business. I was embarrassed for the operation, and the food isn't so great as to warrant this kind of disregard for the customer.

I haven't lived in Ankeny for several years now since moving to the Twin Cities, but when I am back in town I always have to make a stop at Palmer's Deli (110 N Ankeny Blvd). Honestly, I'm not a "sandwich" person but I am always impressed with the quality of the food that I have here. My parents ADORE this place and I can see why they love it so much. First off, the negatives. They aren't open on Sunday. I guess that's not a huge deal for some people, but in a college town you'd think this place would be open seven days a week. I know that some companies don't open for "religious" reasons on Sundays and am totally okay with that. Also, the service could be a little better. The staff isn't overly friendly and some of the folks that work there don't seem to care very much about their jobs. Again, in a college town you're going to get employees that are just there for the paycheck, but this place could easily get a five-star rating if they had employees that cared just a little more. The prices are a tad steep for Ankeny, but you're paying for the quality and won't mind after you'd sampled what they have to offer. That's it for the negatives because the food there is very good. The have an extensive sandwich, soup and salads (and I don't mean just rabbit food). My personal favorite is the Wisconsin Cheddar soup served up in a hot, fresh bread bowl. I might drive 3.5 hours from Minneapolis just for that and I'm not kidding. You can build your own sandwich or pick from one of many specialty options. I prefer "The Marshall" (or the first sandwich on the menu board) which is rye bread packed with freshly sliced deli turkey, ham, cheddar, Swiss, bacon and lettuce and tomato. You can have it with mayo or with Thousand Island dressing and either way it's awesome. I know their melts and their Reuben are fabulous as well. This might be the best Reuben anywhere in the state of Iowa. The "salads" are another story. This isn't just lettuce and dressing here... we're talking potato salads, pasta salads, tomato salads, fruit salads, greek salads, bean salads, chicken/tuna/seafood/ham salads, egg salads... I could go on for a while. They have a sampler available where you can pick three six-ounce salads and dinner roll. Choosing three is the tough part. They have a really nice deli menu and this place is always busy. Hey, customers speak for themselves here. You might have to wait in line but that's a good thing because you'll have more time to pick out your food. Palmer's Deli is a great local place to get a sandwich, soup or salad at a decent price. The service isn't awesome, but it's alright. The food is high-quality and the selection is great. They have five locations in the Des Moines Metro. If you're looking for a good sandwich in the DSM area, stop by Palmers Deli!

Pretty impressive little sandwich shop. But don't forget the salads, sides, soups and sweets either! In my two visits I've now tried the Apple Orchard (Roast turkey, provolone and sliced Granny Smiths with apple butter on a ciabatta hoagie) and the Turnberry (Smoked turkey, Havarti cheese, with cranberry chutney & cream cheese on multigrain). Both times I supplemented with some tomato florentine soup. What will it be next time? Chili in a bread bowl? The Natural? A Spinner Salad? A sandwich of my own creation? Who knows... what I do know is it will be good.

I LOVE Palmer's Deli and I wish there were one in Ames - I'd eat there all the time. Sandwiches are made fresh to order with delicious fresh ingredients. They have an extensive selection of soups, salads, and desserts that are all to die for. (I tend to order way more food than I need at Palmer's). My favorite sandwich is the market turkey sandwich - a turkey sandwich on ciabatta with lettuce, tomato, ranch, and Havarti cheese. Simple and delicious.

I am anticipating and fully prepared to write a more highly-rated review for my next visit, but my first visit was a so-so. The place is a beautiful deli with various stations to seemingly apease anyone's lunch tastes. Build your own salad? I love it! But I'm used to more of an ingrediet choice for that type of set up, so that was a little bit of a bummer. I also had some tomato/basil w/ravioli soup that tasted of nothing but Campbell's. There is quite a bit of selection there, so I guess they can't make everything from scratch, but I was left wanting more. Next time I will try the sandwiches and hope for a stronger showing. *If you like red french dressing (the 7 year old in me still does) they have the best!

I loooooove Palmer's! Even though I live in Ankeny, I don't find myself visiting this particular location very frequently, but I think the service and the friendliness of the staff is especially good at this branch. My favorite sandwiches are the turnberry and the apple orchard; I love the Wisconsin cheese soup; and they have some excellent salads and cookies to round out your meal. It's not too expensive for the quality that you get, and the atmosphere is nice and bright with lots of windows and plenty of seating.

My cowoker and customer brought me lunch from Palmer's today and I was glad they did. Very good turkey sandwich with an even better tasting pickle! The smell of my coworker's chili made me wish I'd tried that as well. Definitely a good choice for a quick take-out lunch!
