The lunch buffet here is really hard to top. Friendly staff, hot pizza, and a good bargain. You have a choice of soup or salad plus all you can eat pizza during the lunch buffet. For dinner or weekends, the crowds can get thick they don't take reservations, so plan accordingly. They have tons of beer on tap and plenty of tvs during sporting events. The healthy options pretty much don't exist, but let's be honest - people come here to carb load on yummy deep dish pizza! The best part of our dining experience here was all the beer on tap. We will eat here again.

Stopped here on our way home to Minneapolis. Server was friendly and attentive. The bartender was clearly more interested in his phone than in pouring the one beer we ordered. It did take about 30 min for our order of wings and fries to arrive. It wasn't too busy at that time. The food was decent. Three star worthy. The all day happy hour prices were great (Sunday).

Hunter was a great waiter. Great for the drinking folks on the patio! The hostesses were rude when we came in and ask about patio seating. They told us that we were way too late to get a seat on the patio and that next time we need to get there early. Even after we told them there was an empty table, they still claimed there were no seats. Then, in the next breath they said it was "open seating". We finally asked them, "bottom line, can we sit out there or not?" Then we're still being rude, so we just went out there. After that, things were great! Had appetizers and beers. It was GREAT!!!

First time to Old Chicago in Ankeny. Overall decent experience. Burger was good. Slightly over cooked but good flavor. Fries were great. Perfectly salted and crispy. Jeff was a great server super friendly and attentive. Overall place was clean. There was a few tables that needed bussed still. It did take a while to get our check though. We waited forever to get our check still waiting currently. Been here an hour and a half, most of us have been done almost 30 minutes. Free cookies for desert!

I stopped in for a late night dinner and had a great experience. I had the Stromboli with fries and thoroughly enjoyed every bite from beginning to end. Even at 11:30 pm everything arrived like it was the first item out of the kitchen for the day. I enjoyed a great pear beer that was very refreshing and crisp! Being one of the few places that is open late during the week in Ankeny, definitely will be a good go-to for late night dining.

5 stars based on my favorite pizza of LIFE which is no longer on the menu :( The Taos pizza! I always ask if they can still make it for me, and so far they've been able to! If you've never tried it, DO! You will love it (on Chicago style crust, of course). It consists of seasoned grilled chicken, Roma tomatoes, roasted green chilies, fresh cilantro, Mozzarella and Cheddar cheeses with a spicy black bean sauce. They have pretty good specials on Wednesday's too.

Stopped for dinner on my way home on a Sunday and wish I would have passed. I ordered the Chicago 7 with one half with sausage and one half with ground beef. When it arrived the side with ground beef came with meatballs that had been cut into slices and laid on the pizza. Large slices, so I contacted the waitress who says "why did they put sliced meatballs on your pizza?" I will go find the manager, after a twenty minute wait the manager showed up and said the meatballs are ground beef and they just didn't get chopped up. She made us feel completely stupid. I am sorry but a meatball has crackers in it, if I wanted a sliced meatball I would have ordered. The manager didn't offer to make it right or nothing. I contacted a different old Chicago that said that is not ground beef, but a meatball. Apparently the manager at this location doesn't know the difference and needs better customer relation skills. If you get sent to a customers table something is wrong and you need to correct it. Also I have ordered this at several different locations and it didn't come like this. If you are out of ground beef just tell the customer and offer something else. Thankfully we had ordered a pepperoni double decker and they were able to make it correctly. The management at this location gets a huge F, for failure and being a fucktard. This experience will ensure I won't be back for a while to this location. Tip: the customer knows what they want, if they aren't happy you are losing business.

Very disappointed with Old Chicago I ordered Turkey Club sandwich looked like it was made by a 3 yr old barely no bacon and two slices of turkey and the end of the tomato slice it was cold and could not even eat it. My son got the kids Mac n Cheese with steamed veggies, he got spaghetti noodles with white cheese sauce and raw veggies. The server told me they don't steam veggies for the kids meals I was ok with that. However kids meal picture for Mac n Cheese showed elbow macaroni not spaghetti. My husband ordered Mac n Cheese and his turned out good. Well to wrap it up I will not be going back to this restaurant. I can cook better than they can!

My wife and I love this place. We usually get the same thing, a large beef Chicago style pizza. The menu has a good variety, too. On occasion we will get some pretzels for appetizers. We don't eat pork, so many of the selections on the menu we've never tried. But I have seen them carried out to other patrons and it all looks good! If beer is your thing they have a ton to choose from. Round this place out with a clean establishment and a friendly staff. It's a great place in the community.

I've been to an Old Chicago in Minneapolis a couple of times and I feel the menu is either different here or there has been changes in the past 3 years to their menu. Not saying change is bad, just mentioning the change. I was looking for some casual dining just to fill my stomach up with filling food. The menu was not very extensive so you will not have a difficult time with ordering. I was surprised to see their extensive beer list, I just ordered a simple beer after reading through a long list of alcoholic beverages. Our server was very friendly taking our order and getting us situated. I got the 8 inch Chicago Deep Dish Royal Margherita Pizza and my fiance ordered the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo Pasta, these were our entrees alongside our appetizer of 5 Classic BBQ wings. Oh man the pizza was good! You see it hit the table and can see all the colors and heat radiating from the pizza, that was fresh! Every bite was flavorful and hits all the tastebuds. Size wise, I would say a casual eater would be satisfied, if you are hungry then it would not be enough. The pasta and wings were good as well, but no points worth mentioning. I would definitely return to try out their other items. Our server after we received our food never really came back to check on us until he asked if we needed a box because we were done.

We love their pizza. Period. Their pepperoni rolls are also delicious. They also have a weekday buffet at lunchtime, which is good for kids and hungry adults!

Not a bad place to go in Ankeny. Beer is cold and service is sometimes spotty, but not sure why. Good food all the time.

Decent. Peppercorn burger tasted good but the actual burger seemed pre-formed, maybe even frozen, but not sure. Kids macaroni was excellent. Not Kraft like some other places. Caesar salad was very good and the fruit that came with the kids meal looked ripe and tasty.

grosset environment to eat in. Poor attempt at a Chicago speakeasy theme. With family roots in the bootlegging world, I felt alienated and ostracized by the waiter and his "Aztec tribal" look. As if by some harassment placement technique, a vegan couple was placed next to me who whispered about salads w/o dressing and w/o chicken like WTF thanks Old Cuicago

I love old Chicago in Ankeny. Great staff, great food, and good times. The staff is amazing and friendly, they also remember your name if you go there a lot. I have never had a problem there, but if I did I'm sure management would make it right.

The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the person that seated us. We went there the day after Christmas because we wanted the lunch buffet. It was after 1:30, and the person that seated us told the buffet was closed and walked away. While we were deciding if we were going to stay, Phil (the server) told us that we could still get the lunch buffet since the food was still there. They just wouldn't be adding anything since it was after 1:30. If it wasn't for Phil, we probably would have left, and they would've lost our business that day.

I don't find the pizza at Old Chicago to be all that great, but they always have a terrific beer selection so I do occasionally find myself here. The pizza here is truly nothing special; I'd rather visit Felix & Oscars if I'm looking for really good Chicago-style pizza (or Wig & Pen if you'd rather stick around Ankeny). I sometimes think the pasta is better than the pizza at Old Chicago; of course, the real reason to go here is the beer. Tons of choices on tap, even more in bottle, and a full menu of beer cocktails - love that! You can also partake in the World Beer Tour if you're so inclined. If you've visited one Old Chicago, you've pretty much seen them all; it's an A-OK three stars from my perspective. Go here for beer. Get your pizza elsewhere.

What makes Old Chicago is the World Beer Tour. Signing up is free and the goal is to drink 110 beers earning prizes along the way. They have over 20 beers on tap and 80 or so more in bottles. The goal of then place is to make people try different beers so there are no pitchers sold. Food is pretty good although sometimes pricey. Your best bet is to hit up their happy hour from 3-6. Pint beers are mug price and apps are half off. They also serve $2.50 mini pizzas during this time.

Warranty work done at Karl's. Shuttle ride to Old Chicago during our wait. Food was OK, beer is always good. Waitress did a nice job, they must treat them well because she was same waitress last time we stopped 8 months ago. We had a chicken wrap and club sandwich. Would go back again.

I've been a regular at the Ankeny location for a while now, and I must say that I've always enjoyed my experience each time I've went. I work at a nearby location, and usually don't get off work until Midnight or later. All I have to do is give them a call while I'm still at work and place my order (they close the kitchen generally around 11:30 PM or so- the bar is open until 1 AM). When I arrive, my order is waiting for me. That in and of itself speaks volumes about how they value their customers. I'm on a first name basis with most of the bartenders and Managers there, and they always make us feel welcome each and every time we visit. Saying all this, I haven't even commented on how excellent their food and beer selection is! I love the World Beer Tour, and am only 1 beer away from joining their "Hall of Foam" (110 beers). I went tonight with my brother to have pizza and beer, and spoke to the Bar Manager Lisa. Asked her whether or not I needed to give them notice about my reaching 110 beers to be added to the Hall of Foam. She told me they contact Corporate, and they will custom make a plague with my name on it to be displayed at the restaurant. She then asked me when the next time I was coming in? I told her "Wednesday when the new Mini Beer Tour begins". She said "We'll put something special together for you. Prepare to be embarrassed"! I can't wait for Wednesday, and that summarizes how I feel about the restaurant and staff as a whole. You're looking forward to the next time you visit even while you're still there enjoying yourself. I highly recommend "The Meat Me" Chicago Deep Dish pizza too! Absolutely incredible, and one you'll crave again and again.
