*Duplicate Review* There is another page for this place. For those who do not know what Culvers is; this is basically a fast food burger joint that is a bit more premium than places such as Mcdonalds, BK, or Wendy's. It is more on par with Bbops. Their food is always amazing, burgers and fries will not disappoint. Their ice cream is very good also, must try. I've been to other Culvers in the area and this one is no different. Friendly staff, no problems. I have never had Culvers until I can to Iowa, glad I discovered it.

Huge fan of this Pizza Hut! We order every Friday, it's always good, usually on time (we order online) and always fresh. I've never been inside this location, it's located in a strip mall so it seems like it would be small on the inside, but again I don't know.

Reviews:
Breadeaux Pisa (Pizza per listing) has been in Altoona for decades, yet many people who are relatively new (a decade or less) to town have never even heard of the place, which is a shame... This has been one of my favorite places to get a great pizza and, in my opinion, is by far the best Altoona has to offer in the pizza arena. The price is competitive, the wait is reasonable, and the quality is high. Some unique offerings: Breadeaux Pizza offer dessert pizzas which are a little pricey, but fantastic - I say give the apple dessert pizza a try; you will not be disappointed. They have a decent Taco Pizza (not usually my preference for any place that does pizza) and a Hawaiian Pizza made with Canadian Bacon and Pineapple. Although this location has one booth in it I believe, its primary role is delivery and carry-out. ***Actually Pisa no longer in the name; it is indeed Pizza***

This is the best Dairy Queen that I have ever been to!! The pumpkin pie blizzard is to die for. The service is outstanding!! It was the first time I've been to one in quite a while, so I walked in Sunday evening, the place was packed. I had no idea what to order. Fortunately the cashier was very helpful and asked what I typically like to order with my ice cream. I gave her a few of my favorites and she quickly recommended the Pumpkin Pie.... it was AMAZING... just like a pumpkin pie, it was so creamy, and the cashier also told me that they used Low Fat ice cream.. i felt even better eating it I will definitely return to this location because I received such friendly service and a delicious dessert!!! Next time I'm going to try the blizzard with butterfinger and snickers!
Although DQ is not my main to go place for ice cream, I stopped in here at night once just to try something different. I've eaten at many DQs around the country and this one is pretty much the same as others. Staff members in my opinion are always friendly at DQ, maybe it's being around ice cream that makes them happy. This is the first location where I tried actual food from DQ, their burgers are okay, but nothing to talk about. Their ice cream as you should know are pretty tasty and would satisfy your ice cream craving. Only downside to me is that it is located farther than the other restaurants in the center of the city of Altoona.
Decided to go in this DQ one evening for a quick bite to eat for dinner. This location is close to our home and I didn't feel like running down to the other side of town where the other fast food places are located. I ordered a burger basket with an iced tea. Surprisingly, the burger was fresh and delicious. The fries were piping hot. I thought to myself, why don't I eat here more often?? The food is good, it is very close to home, and it is very reasonably priced. I think this DQ may move to the top of my list when I need something fast and don't want to cook. The service was great too with all the people working the counter being very friendly.

Okay, I grew up at this place and we have been through thick and thin. And what I mean by this is a tornado ripped through my home town and almost destroyed the Casey's on 8th St. & 5th Ave. You can walk in at anytime and get fresh donuts and pastries, pizza, cheesesticks, hot wings, sandwiches, coffee, cookies, etc. Words do not do this establishment justice. Casey's General Store, Jefe's coming to town in October for a Hawkeye game and I have missed you so. I'm fillin up on Budweiser, taco pizza and 87 octane.

This is the first and only place I have bought Papa Murphy's pizza. I thought this was a new twist on buying pizzas, they make it fresh with fresh toppings and you watch them put everything together. The pizza is big and you know its what you want. All you do is take it home to bake, it's not frozen so it won't take long. I had the pizza and I didn't really enjoy the taste. I honestly liked store bought frozen pizza better, but that is just me. The staff here is friendly and will wall you through the steps. Good deal for the price , it is a large pizza.

The service here is great. Food isn't anything to really brag about, but it isn't too bad. We had a large group and they easily accomodated us in their big room off to the side with a TV. One waitress handled our party of about 15 and she did it with excellence. She was such a nice lady and really took care of us.
Awesome tomato soup and tasty Cajun turkey sandwich. Stopped here on accident but definitely coming back. Great service!
Service is always great. Food is pretty darn good for bar type grub. Plenty of tvs for game day, don't see your game on ask and they will put it on no problem.

Big Steer Restaurant & Lounge

Reviews:
Excellent service by Krisitn for sure . Came in and the staff was great and sat us immediately even though it was 30 minutes to close. All meals were great and well priced. Don't let the giant cow billboard scare you away. The decor is very dated - which is why they get 4 not a 5 star. Would give 4.5 but we all know there is no option for that. Would come back for sure. Directions - go to the casino - the. Head towards 80 - turn right - look for a giant cow
I have to admit the larger than life Bovine in the front of the lounge has deterred me for many years. Last night my wife and I decided to brave the cold fog and decided to walk into the home of the mutant cow in search of a good meal. At first I was worried as we walked in about 30 minutes before closing and stood at the host stand for what felt like 10 minutes waiting for a host to come. The bartender noticed us and commented "now where is our resident slacker..?" I laughed under my breath and hope this would not be a portent of things to come. We were eventually seated and I ordered the cattlemen's cut prime rib while wifey ordered the rib eye. We both ordered the baked potato as a side and I had a caesar salad to start. Our waiter then brought out some bread which I must say is some of the best bread that I have EVER had. Not sure if it was "homemade" but it sure tasted like it. It was warm, soft, and addictive. I would rename it crack bread. OMG. I had to stop myself from simply eating that for dinner. The caesar salad came covered in good parmesan cheese (not coming from the green kraft bottle) so if you like cheese this is the salad to order. Then came our glorious steaks. The wife's rib eye was great but the prime rib is the cut to order. It was so flavorful. I can tell they brine/marinate the beef in some way because it is packed with beef flavor. It didn't need any gravy and was tremendous with just a few dashes of salt. The potatoes were ok, not with a crunchy salt crust but good nonetheless. Dessert was meh, don't eat dessert here, I ordered the apple pie and I could tell it was a microwaved piece of costco pie. Not bad but maybe not worth the money although I have to say after all that salted meat it definitely helped to close the meal. I have to say our server was great. He brought us some extra bread to take home to the fam (which didn't last very long). In short, order LOTS of BREAD. Order the PRIME RIB, then hit Over the top for some ice cream. Perfect night. It's going to be hard to get back to my vegan days after this.
We went here for Father's Day. The big steer in the parking lot and decor is a little hokey, not my style to say the least. But the food was awesome. I ate everything and so did everyone at my table. My stepdad was very pleased with the brunch. Prices were very reasonable. Server was slammed but didn't miss a beat.

Sugar Shack Restaurant

100 8th St SE,Ste E
Altoona, 50009
Reviews:
Lost my business...Been going here for 10+ years because I love the thin, crispy tenderloins that they serve. All of a sudden, it's taken over by a new guy who decides he doesn't like the current tenderloins, so changes them to these big, fat, greasy ones. I didn't find this out until it was delivered to my table. In their defense, I will say that they were very polite and offered me anything else I wanted from the menu. Problem was, I don't go to the Sugar Shack for anything else and probably will not be back.
I decided to give this restaurant a try the other day. The restaurant was in a nondescript strip mall but the inside was another story. It had a really neat retro-diner theme with the typical diner fair. I ordered a burger and a smoothie. The burger was cooked well and was tasty. The fries were over done for my taste. The fruit smoothie was okay. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a theme style meal.
Things have changed over the years I've been there and I love that they have an actual wait staff that comes to your table and takes your order (so no more going up to the counter every time you want to add something else to your bill). The food was excellent and the service was great. The staff was really friendly and the restaurant had a very welcoming feel to it. I will most definitely be back soon.

Place is not bad, food was pretty good, awesome service. The portions might seem a little small to some. But in all I left satisfied.
Food was great. Waitress was a hoot!!! Bold and Sassy!!!!
Gross. Now I know why VI has come out with coupons, their food is not worth full price. Service is great, but the quality of food has gone way down hill while the prices have gone up. Seating was slow. We were a party of five, so we had to wait for ONE table to be cleared. While the Assistant manager stood at the register doing nothing we waited while several other parties were seated. 15 minutes later the server decided to clear the appropriate table. Finally. The first thing my 2 and 4 year old boys started doing was pulling trash out of the "crumb catchers" (the crevice where the back of your seat meets the bottom). First it was a straw. Gross. Then sugar packets, a toothpick..... Holy cow it was like a clown car! When I looked down, it was filled with garbage from previous customers. No way was this done in a day. This was weeks worth of business. Took my son to the restroom, again gross. Counter tops need caulking, grime on the tiles, loose toilet paper, urine on the seats. Gross water spotted mirrors. When we came out of the restroom you can see into the kitchen/waitstaff area. HOLY COW! Please for the love of money tell me THAT is not where MY FOOD is coming from! There is such a thing as 'clean as you go'. CUSTOMERS CAN SEE YOUR KITCHEN! At least have a clean floor. No one really notices anything else while passing by. Chicken fried steak I am picky about, I will admit. VI is the only CFS I will eat, other than my own at home, not anymore. My first bite it was over cooked and gristle. I actually gagged. I will never return to VI, which is sad, it used to be one of my most favorite places to eat. I can't even believe how bad this was.
