My Mom had gotten me K's bento over the years when I was growing up and now I try to pick it up for my kids too! DEAL ALERT! You really can't beat K's. Only $6 for the small bento, which includes a lot of food for the price (3 pieces chicken, piece of hot dog, egg, maki sushi, musubi and a plain sushi with shrimp flakes on top). They give you a chopstick but you really don't need one as everything can be finger foods - perfect! Cash only and very few stalls in front for parking but it's grab and go (bentos are ready for purchase - well, they were when I stopped by on a Thursday around 8:30am) so most leave pretty quickly.

Back to basics. Okay. We're approaching a stop. Brake gradually to slow to a stop before the stop line/sign. Signal your left turn. Check left. Check front. Check right. Check left again. All clear? Okay. Execute your turn. Straighten out. Accelerate gradually, and smoothly. I keep telling myself "keep it simple." Use single-word terms rather than phrases and sentences to direct actions. And use terms consistently. Slowww. Stop. Signal. Check. Turn. Return. Acceleraaate. We're in the neighborhood so my daughter and I drop by K's in the morning before we re-commence her driver education. K's makes a basic, simple bento. We pick up a couple to break fast and fortify both tutor and tutee for the day's session ahead. For $6 you get 3 pieces of flavorful fried chicken, a musubi, maki sushi (shoyu-mirin tuna + egg + red and green shrimp powder), oshi sushi, hot dog, and yaki tofu. Nothing fancy. Just basic, simple food...that is tasty, filling, and satisfying. And for a very fair price. Now then. [from the "Hawaii Driver's Manual"] "When you drive into the street from any driveway you: 1. Must drive slowly so approaching vehicles and pedestrians can get out of your way. 2. Must honk the horn so approaching vehicles and pedestrians can allow you room. 3. Must stop and proceed only when there are no pedestrians or vehicles approaching." ...... Hmmm..... What's a "PE - DES - TRI - AN"?

I just love hole in the wall places. This place is tucked in very well. It's in a small corner lot next to Valerios. Go as early as possible because their Bentos go fast and bring cash! They're perfect for any meal of the day. I try to grab one before my hikes. As you walk in the Bentos are packed and ready for you to grab from the shelf. It's a very simple looking place that can be overlooked. But everyone in Waipahu knows about it as it is reminiscent of those field trip days we'd take when our parents would have us take a bento for lunch.

A Waipahu institution! Going here is like going back in time to my childhood. My mom used to get my sister and me bentos here for all of our field trips. Our credit union also started serving K's bentos for its annual member meetings, one of the highlights of the gathering. These bentos provided just the right combination of yumminess for any hungry child (or adult), for any occasion! Get there early.

One of Waipahu's gems for sure... It will be hard for you to find someone who will argue otherwise. I've been coming here for years. This is where my parents bought my home lunch whenever I had a field trip, LOL. Now that I've got no field trips to go to, I still come here to buy my breakfast before work. The chicken, oh man the chicken... you can't find chicken anywhere else on the island that even comes close to theirs. I love how its boneless. I like chicken, but I'm picky to where I don't eat meat near the bone (I have this thing about the veins). So yes, I'll eat the top layer of meat that has no veins then give it away to my brother, dad, or friend that'll eat it. Not only is it boneless, but the veins are very minimal to none on the chicken. Definitely one of the few places where you'll get more than your money's worth. There's two different sizes of bentos, but even the smaller one is more than enough for me. With the smaller bento, that's enough for my breakfast and lunch for the day. Everything in the bento is good, from the chicken to the half hotdog. Bentos do run out fast. They don't really have a set open and close time. The earliest I've seen them open was 3 am and the latest I saw them close was 1 pm. It just really depends. Also, try to get the chicken fresh. It does make a world of a difference when the chicken is freshly cooked compared to chicken that's been sitting on the shelf for a while. Sometimes, heating it up won't do the trick.

I can say ONLY 1 good thing about the rail on Oahu, it forced me to make a right turn. A right turn into K's Bento-Ya's parking : ) You can find yummy bento boxes @ K's Bento-Ya !!!!

  • John T.

Listen, the chicken is a little tough, but they are still getting 5-stars because the food is great and the prices are even better. How can you beat a fully-loaded bento that could last two meals for $7? Plus I love the simple operation. Drive up, grab your prepared bento, pay for it, and your out the door in about 5 minutes. Love their early hours as well. Only bad thing is that they are closed on Monday, but at least they are open on Saturday.

I've grown up with this place. I have been eating these bentos for as long as I can remember, probably since I could eat for the first time. Their bento is my all time favorite. Whether you get there in time to get the big one or have to settle for the small one, I'm never disappointed.

I LOVE K'S BENTO!! I would seriously go there before lunch or noon because by that time, most of the bentos are gone! I gave this place 4 stars because there's no HASH!!!!! The hash was one of my favorites of the whole bento because it was so moist and soooo goood!! But either way, K's bento never gets old and I'll always come here!

  • Kathleen G.

I love this bento! Yummy fried chicken with rice balls, hot dog, and tofu patty. I miss having the little potato mash ball in it though. Get here early or make a phone order, they run out fast. And cash only!

The very 1st time my friend turned me on to this place was back in 2001. Didn't even know about this place, but my friend use to work in the Waipahu area, so he knew all the good & cheap grind places! The first time I ever came here was back in 2001...........this place use to sell their bento's really dirt cheap.............I wanna say somewhere around $3.95 for so. But times have changed..........it is 12 years later, but you know what???? This place still sells their bento's dirt cheap!!! For today, I was working in the Waipahu area this morning, so I made a bee-line stop at K's Bento-Ya to pick me up a "DELUXE" K's Bento! Only $7.00 for all of this (see pic!) To get a bento, you gotta get there early, as they usually run out of bento's by 11:00 AM.............sometimes even by 10:30 AM...........no more! You snooze, you lose!!!! What's in the Deluxe Bento.............well, there's 4 types of sushi, one shrimp, luncheon mean slice, shoyu hotdog, tofu patty, & 4 pieces of Mochiko Chicken! Now don't get me wrong, I eaten K's bento a ton of times...........and it's a hit or miss kind of thing for me with the Mochiko Chicken............. In the past, sometimes I've purchased their bento and the Mochiko Chicken was dried out or hard........... But for today, my Mochiko Chicken was just made right! It was meaty, & the texture was just right! A light crunchiness to the chicken on the outside, with a meaty soft inside, and a slight sweetness of the mochiko sauce. There is very limited parking (I wanna say about 6 to 8 stalls which they have to share with other businesses)..........sometimes I just drive by & double park. I run in & pick up my bento, then run back to the car and dig out. Once they run out of bento's, they close.............so make sure you get there early otherwise you will be out of luck!

Five stars! K's Bento-ya is one of the best deals and their bentos are ono! Always a great snack or lunch...or even in this case, breakfast! The chicken is tasty and the sushi is wonderful. Parking is premium in front, so you gotta go at odd hours. Also, you gotta come early, they run out of bentos really, really fast. Especially on weekdays.

I finally made it here since my friend has been buggin me to try her favorite bento place in the world. I drove to probably one of uglier parts of the island and found the hole in the wall of a shack in a run down minimall. I walk in hoping to find a table and chairs to have a small meal with my daughter. Nope...none...i had to eat in the car. There was one choice..not a bad one..but just one at the time. I did get there about 11:30..so maybe it's my bad. Anyway, the fried chicken was pretty tasty...slightly sweet and salty. There was a piece of sausage and some rice accompanying it. I paid 6 bucks...not bad I guess. However, for 6 bucks I'd rather buy a hot dish..not a cold box of food that's been sitting out there for what I'm guessing is hours cuz it was cold to the touch. They also sell fried chicken by itself when it's available. That's probably worth it if it's hot. Who wants to eat cold fried chicken anyway??? There's also a larger bento box available for 7 bucks but comparatively to the smaller bento box...it's relatively the same...maybe one extra piece of chicken? I know bentos aren't supposed to be hot...it would be nice to have some hot ones available for purchase. Just sayin...

I love my bentos and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE K's bento! It is the perfect size/portions and great to bring as a home lunch for school field trips or work. The first time I had K's Bento was in high school. I was part of a sport and very lucky to have an amazing coach that not only taught us a lot about the sport, but also knew that as teens, we are ALWAYS hungry. So, he usually would pick up K's Bento for our after-game lunch. One taste and I was HOOKED! K's Bento has two different sizes. I usually get the regular size. It normally comes with 3 - 4 pieces of chicken, a musubi, sushi rice musubi (that comes in cute shapes like a fan or flower), hot dog, egg, hash patty, and a maki sushi. The chicken has a slightly sweet flavor, but can be more on the tough side (not so tender). The musubi is the perfect complement to the chicken, but if that has too little flavor for you, you still have the sushi rice musubi. I really like that musubi because of the sweetness of the rice. The hash patty is so tender and tasty. It sounds like a lot of items in one little box, but it is filling and everything pairs well with each other. The large bento can be a lot to eat with more chicken and a shrimp. Along with bentos, they also sell inari sushi. Go early because they do sell out fast. I think the only thing that would make this place better is to have a location in town. I would go so much more frequently if they had one closer to home.

Got someplace where you need to bring a bento? The beach? Field trip? Airport? Then you need to stop at K's in Waipahu for a meal which will fill you up! Every time I've been here, I would purchase the small ($6) which includes three pieces of deep fried chicken, two sushi musubi, one nori musubi, half a hot dog, small tofu omelette and hash patty. The boneless chicken has a good bite to it once you get to the meat. They also sell a large size for those with bigger appetites. All of the bentos are prepackaged so you can pick up and start eating. Now the location... it's on the same side as Tanioka's and is diaganal to Jack In the Box. K's only accepts ca$h and is strictly for take out. Be careful because they sell out early - sometimes as early as 11AM on Saturdays!

Like they always say hole in the wall places always got good food! My number 1 choice to grab a bento especially when i don't have time to make myself lunch..or breakfast lol...yes i do have moments when i eat a k's bento for breakfast. For the early birds I believe they're open at 430am....do go early to grab your bento because they'll run out. The regular bentos are $6.00 and the big bentos are $7.00..and the good thing is they don't tax lol. Oh and FYI, its cash only. Every time i go theres a cute japanese grandma working the cash register, she's adorable and friendly..always wishes me a good day. Way to start my mornings hahahaha!

THE BEST BENTO ON THE ISLAND! Hands down, the best food! It's a small hole-in-the-wall place and can be hard to miss if you don't know where you're going. But the bento is soooo good. They open early, and close early so come asap! You can call in advance to hold a few bento's for you. They'll put it in a plastic bag with your name on it next to the rest of the bentos. The tofu is the best and I always buy if they have extra. The small is enough to fill you up. It's a little expensive at $6 a bento, but so worth it!

this is now my numero uno spot for lunch when I go to field trips with my kids at work. The only place that opens REAL early (idk how early). This place is hard to miss if you don't know where you are going in Waipahu. Lets just say, it's pretty hidden. Now that location is done, lets talk about the pricing and availability. There are two options. You could get $6 for a regular bento that comes in with tofu, friend chicken, luncheon meat, hot dog and onigiri or, you could get the $7 deluxe. It has, 3-4 pieces of fried chicken, 2 onigiri, shrimp, hot dog, tofu, and luncheon meat. The cost is really low but the availability is there only if you come early morning. The other reviews say they run out at 8-9am however, i've been seeing a lot on stock. Sometimes the chicken is dry and sometimes it's not but overall this place is good to buy breakfast or lunch. I will visit this place more just for the low cost of bentos whenever I have field trips. 8/10 The food is worth the try!

Too bad they are not open for dinner because I love their chicken! Anyway. my boyfriend and I came here all the time when we were in high school. Back then, instead of flowers he brought me K's Bento. What a sweetheart (haha)! Well, not much has changed since we were in high school. The bento is still delicious as ever and I am always excited to bite into their chicken as well as the tofu (my personal favorite)! If you ever catch dinner really late, they sell their chicken at 11PM at night on Monday through Friday. When I went last night to get my boyfriend's dinner I got 4 big pieces of chicken for $2.50! The chicken was fresh, crispy, and really good in portion for the price I paid. Also, keep in mind that their bentos sell out like crazy. Once they run out, their doors close. I suggest going before 8AM to get the good bentos. I once went at 9AM and got their last bento which didn't have the cute side dishes like tofu, hotdog, or potato. If you have kids or want a great lunch to bring to work, I suggest going to K's Bento-Ya. Beware: their prices fluctuate anywhere between $5-$9 from all the times that I've bought and they don't charge tax.

  • Kelsey U.

I have bought the smaller bento here for longer than I can imagine! The price is very reasonable for the amount of food offered. The small comes with many items such as oshi sushi, maki sushi, musubi, egg tofu, fried chicken, and shoyu hotdog while the larger includes a piece of shrimp. I'm sad to say that they no longer put their corned beef hash in it, that was always one of my favorites in the bento! I will continue to take my business here whenever possible, but be warned - go early or expect them to have not very many choices left or even be closed! They are usually almost sold out by 10:30-11:00!

This place is the BOMB!!! The bento is awesome..comes in 2 sizes..Large and Small sizes... i normally get the small(3 piece garlic chicken, maki sushi, nori rice ball, sushi rice ball, hot dog, tofu and hash for $6..The large just have extra chicken, shrimp and spam for $8.)..

I LOVE K's bento. Super tiny hole in the wall place in Waipahu right off of Farrington Highway near Taniokas) that churns out huge, ridiculously cheap and DELICIOUS bentos! These are great for taking on a picnic or field trip or hike or just bc it is so yum! The bento is double rubberbanded and has napkin, chopstick, and shoyu packet. There are two sizes, regular and large. They mix up the rice components once in a while, but the usual regular layout is three large pieces of boneless fried chicken, 1/2 hot dog, onigiri, maki sushi, sushi w/ red and green powder, tofu egg patty, and hash patty. The large includes a slice of luncheon meat and a large shrimp. You can also buy the tofu egg patty separately ($1.50 per patty). This is by far my favorite thing in the bento so I always get extra! This is a LOT of food, and it is REALLY cheap. I remember when it used to be under $5! Now it is $6-$7 depending on size, which is still really cheap. You have to go early because they run out, so I don't try after 10. A lot of people buy in bulk (like 5-10 bentos) since a lot of them drive a distance just to go here.

Mouth watering... They're my alarm clock cuz I live 10steps away from their little tiny place, 4:00 or 4:30am is when they start cooking and opening the store (oh! So love the smell of the chicken cooking) and that's the time for me to get ready for work but before that of course i have to grab my Bento for breakfast.. Great price and so Yummy!!!!!

Hands down best bento ever. I just can't get enough of it and the best part it's a good price. I always get the regular bento which is only $6.00 and it's fills me up. If your in Waipahu and want a bento go to k's bento. Everytime I go to Waipahu or head anywhere on that side I always want to stop and get a bento.

As part of our Employee Giving Campaign, one of the Bankoh departments sold K's Bento-ya as part of their fundraiser. Good size bento but nothing really remarkable about it. Lots of starch. Maybe I'm just not a pre-made bento fan. It was a fundraiser, so I won't comment about the price because I know the actual price was less than I paid. I've had some pretty good bentos before, but mostly at sit-down restaurants.

Talk about hole in the wall, don't be fooled by it's exterior. This place is oh so good! The chicken is so awesome it's making my mouth water right now as I type this!!

K's Bento-ya is Waipahu's go to place when you want a cheap quick lunch on the go. The bentos here are huge and priced good. You can get a small bento for $6 and a large bento for $7. There is not much parking but if no parking in front of the store then park across the street by diners. They run out of bentos quickly so make sure you go early. They are closed Sunday, Monday .

  • Sara R.

Love the Bento! One the best Mom & Pop shops thats still around. Get there early to get a chance to buy a small container of just chicken. Well worth it. You can also get cone sushi too!

  • Cely H.

My mouth waters for this bento at least once a week. Any excuse that I can conjure up that could possibly involve picking up bento from K's... I'll use it. (Art class? I'm sure they'll let me sneak in bites of chicken. Lunch for the parents? Perfection. Sneak into a movie theater? What? Of course not! *shifty eyes*) Their tamagoyaki is sweet and glorious, their chicken is the epitome of magnificent (I don't know why they call it cayenne chicken because it is NOT spicy), the sushi and musubi have perfectly cooked rice, the hot dog is a tasty, welcomed tidbit and the potato hash I can down in one bite. Go early because they can run out. This place would be perfect to pickup for the kids before a field trip or good to pack if you're heading to the zoo or beach. Ahhhhh.... I need one right NOW!!!

  • Melissa L.

Ermergherddddd has anyone seen mamsan and just wanted to scoop her up and give her the biggest hug in the world for making amazing bentos?!! I called ahead and she had only the smaller bentos available but hot damn it was still amazing..one of those places that you would riot if it ever shutdown.

  • Goh-it K.

Heard they opened early, got there at 3:45am --- OPEN! All the Bentos lined up ready for the frenzy! If you go early beware of the tanker truck pumping their grease trap. Hauna to da MAX!!!! But all restaurants have grease traps and usually service them during off hours. Oh well, Bentos were still ONO!

  • Clarisen L.

Best hole in the wall. Thank goodness I love close by. They run out fast. They also open at 10 pm for chicken only. It's only $2.50. What could go wrong with that.

    I. Love. You. K. That is, if you're a real person. While my bf seems to think that your chicken is the star of his bento, the real star to me is the tofu. How, oh, how can you even deny that this is the best bento tofu you've ever eaten? Lucky for me, we buy three plates and my bf doesn't eat tofu. :) There's never any parking, and we have to drive way out of our way to get K's, but I feel that its a trip well worth it. While we've been heading to Waipahu more often to eat, K's is a great spot to pick up a late breakfast (was gonna say brunch but doesn't quite fit the bill). The sushi rice is perfect tasting and the chicken is very tasty. I also love the hash and the hot dog. As I've said before, the tofu is my star. For the price, you can't go wrong. I don't know anywhere else that I can feed my entire office for under $100. Well, anywhere that they'll be happy with. Perfect to take on the plane ride to Vegas!

  • Emi H.

"Holy crap that bento is huge!" That's what I said when my BF picked us up the infamous K's bento. He has been talking about K's Bento-ya almost from the day we met so it had a lot to live up to! And I am so happy to say that it did not let me down. At $6 this bento has got to be one of the best deals on the island! Three pieces of fried chicken, shoyu hot dog, musubi, make sushi, mini-cone sushi, prawn and egg thingy that I never ever eat. My favorite part was the mochiko fried chicken because it had a great crunch to it and a nice sweetness. You have to get to K's pretty early in the day as they sell out quickly. Businesses like K's Bento-ya are really what make Hawaii special and I'm so happy that I've finally gotten to eat a piece of that local love.

I am writing a review for a place I've never physically visited. Yup, I have enough cronies to deliver their food to ME. So I can't speak to parking, location or the facilities. Just the food. Their regular bento is just plain huge. Yes, there is a lot of rice, but sometimes you just need that white rice fix. Famous for their deep fried chicken, you are basically eating it for the artery clogging sweety/spicy outside....not the meat, which can get tough, but I still love the chicken. I also like my food cold (I'm a cold pizza fan) so cold hash & shoyu hot dog make me drool. Their mini bentos are perfect for that plane ride. It's also ok for an office gathering, but if you want to score points with your employees, just order the regular one! You can order in bulk for those special events. As a little kiddie growing up in Waipahu, the best best field trip lunch you could hope for was a K's bento. You instantly became the envy of all your friends... and enemies... and teachers.... Thanks mom and dad for waking up early and surprising me with such an awesome lunch-to-be. You know whats better than winning the lottery? A K's Bento. K's has persevered the economic storm that has been the last 20 years and still operates in a little corner of Waipahu across the street from Jack in the Box and next to the little strip mall Tanioka's resides in. It is amazing how they make a set number of bentos a day, and are closed twice a week (Sunday Monday). The small bento is $4.75, and small isn't really a good descriptor. It has three pieces of their cayenne chicken, a tasty, crispy, fried masterpiece, egg, hotdog, hash, sushi rice, one piece sushi, and a musubi. This is the one I always get! The larger bento has shrimp, luncheon meat and cone sushi in addition to all the other cool foods the smaller bento has. They open early and sell out quick, so get there before 10am to make sure you get what you want! Let's just say during the World Cup, we consumed quite a few K's bentos, up early, through mid- day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Townies, need to make the trek out here (or have a friend awesome enough to bring you one!)

A friend and I decided to stop here early in the morning for a bento to have for breakfast before turning around and heading back to the Pearl Harbor area for a visit to the USS Missouri. The trip was out of our way, but totally worth it. A little, tiny store area tucked away in Waipahu, K's Bento-ya serves up delicious small and large bento box options. My friend and I each got a large bento...and I didn't realize how much food was actually included until I started to dive in. You really can't beat $7 for this much deliciousness! Also, their rice is fantastic...and their sushi totally hit the spot. The hash was also delightful, and I could have easily had another serving of it... ya know, if I wasn't completely full by the time I got about 3/4 of the way through my box as it is. I finished my bento, because it was just THAT good... but man, was I full! Haha. Promotion of this place is totally word of mouth, by the way. The adorable little old lady working the counter when my friend and I went for breakfast asked us how we heard of the place and I told her it was through Yelp. She mentioned they don't advertise...all business they get is either through sites like Yelp or various customers telling coworkers and friends. That kind of thing. This place was really an awesome find. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a quick foodie fix. If you're around Waipahu? Don't miss it! :)

"Every bento begins with K's!" Small bento is $6. Big bento is $7. I remember the days when the small bento was under $5. Other difference between the two sizes is the big bento comes with shrimp and the potato hash. Maybe once every three months, I ask my husband to give me the cash out of his wallet when I don't have cash (cash only here) so on my way to work I can just stop by K's to grab a bento. Usually by 8 AM, the big bentos are gone so you'll just be left with buying the small bento. My friend tells me he goes really early to buy more of the tofu or the potato hash. With a big bento, I get two meals out of it: musubi, tofu, hash, and hot dog for breakfast; then the rest of the sushi, garlic chicken, and shrimp for lunch. Usually the garlic chicken is tender, but there have been times where the meat tastes like it was frost bitten from the freezer and after it's fried the meat is not tender and even stringy. I know, I know, there's better garlic chicken elsewhere, but in Waipahu this is where you go to to get garlic chicken. It is so good, when my students see my bento they beg me to sell my sushi, or my hot dog, or a piece of garlic chicken to them. I just keep eating it in front of them. #meanteacher

I love K's Bento-ya really great for when we have school functions and excursions very quick and cheap. Recently the prices have gone up-and-down. The only junk thing though is that it's always luke warm and sometimes even cold. It's great if you need to run in out. K's Bento-ya has WAY TOO MUCH RICE and starches in the bento. The Chicken is really awesome though.. It's like you're basically paying for a box of Rice. Too much Potato, and sushi. *ATTENTION: They're only open in the mornings and close when they run out of Bento. Just keep that in mind. Service is always great. Other than that they NEED to work on their rice problem and add maybe something else like more Tamago-Yaki or vegetables. Something more than just rice.

K's Bento-Ya in Waipahu is by far one of the best bento I have ever eaten. I learned about this hole-in-the-wall place through work where the small bento has been ordered for our office parties. This place is so popular that I heard you must go early because they do sell out quickly. Their bento offerings in large and small are not only reasonably priced but well portioned serving with just the right amount of rice and chicken. Small bento includes musubi, maki sushi, oshi sushi (seasoned rice), tofu patty, corn beef hash, teri hot dog and cayenne chicken. Large bento includes musubi, maki sushi, oshi sushi (seasoned rice), tofu patty, corn beef hash, teri hot dog, cayenne chicken, luncheon meat and fried shrimp. Everything is tasty especially their corn beef hash and cayenne chicken. The chicken may seem spicy but in fact it is not spicy at all. The chicken is fried till very crispy and crunchy, may get tough and chewy, but once you get into the meat it is tasty and delicious. This is one bento that is best eaten and enjoyed if you are heading to the beach.

Technically a 4.5 star rating...but doesn't hurt to round up, yeah? I've been coming here for YEARS and I've failed to write a review for them on yelp. #badyelper There was a point when their bento quality did go down a lot (I think it was around the time when gas prices skyrocketed....not that they're any better now...) but the quality is back baby! Everything about the bento is winnaz now. The chicken is well seasoned and pretty moist and juicy. I love corn beef hash and tofu patty. They used to put more corn beef and kamaboko in these items, but the taste is still there regardless. Small bentos now are $6 and you can purchase extra maki sushi or inari sushi when you pay. Go early! They do run out!

Little hole in the wall behind Tammys, I have always been so fond of their bentos and the awesome food that comes in it. K's has been a family favorite since my hanabada days. Whether it was for all day assemblies, beach days, or just because, K's has always been a source of lots of good food for a great price. They are very generous with their portions. All kinds of meats, egg, a lil potatoe thingy and of course their rice& sushi . I love their rice, its cute and so yummy. Anyhow the meat is always plentiful in all the bentos so when I grab bentos from K's I can be assured that I'm getting my moneys worth and we won't end the our trip or day hungry! As for the food considering its a bento lunch and comparing it to other bentos you might get K's is definitely my favorite!

Great food here, i came a little late and they ran out of their big box bento. But there other size was also great. Sushi- FRESH, Chicken-DELICIOUS! Its a very hard place to find if your not a local. A very great small place to hit if your here in Oahu.

Way too greasy and bland. Good price but not the greatest meal.

Love this place. Grew up eating their bentos. I'm sad I live too far now. My favorite bento on the island! I will eat everything down to the last grain of rice!

K's Bento-ya is a great place to pick up lunch early in the morning. It's convenient and really reasonably priced. I like the sushi in the bentos and hotdog. They also sell sushi or other items in the bento separately if you order in advance. But, I have to agree with Kai about the chicken. Don't get me wrong, because it is tasty, but most times it's really dry or hard. I don't know if it's just overdone or because it's cold... If you get lucky you might get a fresh batch. If it weren't for that, I'd maybe give them four stars. However, gotta cut them some slack because they do make a ton of bentos everyday and they start cooking like at 1am when most of us are fast asleep!!!

K Bento is the cheapest, well-worth bento on the island. The chicken is good and juicy. It's located in the heart of Waipahu close to Taniokas. Parking is limited but can always park in the lot next door. This bento is good for teams and parents who want to buy their kids lunch for field trip and stuff. The bentos are all made already....just pick and go. They open early in the morning till whenever they run out. So gotta go early if you goin to buy a lot. I LOVE K BENTO!!

I've been eating K's forever!!! My dad would always buy this bento on Saturdays for us. The juiciest garlic chicken, and yummy luncheon meat (not spam), egg/tofu patty, hot dog, shrimp and maki and cone sushi!!! Just the perfect combo of bento items! I now live in the mainland but I always make it a point to get a bento from K's. Dont ever change anything....this is the best old school style bento!!!

I order 3 orders of chicken, maki sushi roll, and cone sushi in da morning when tanioka's not open... buggah is a winnah! :D

Always stop by when we head to the airport for vacation. Great price, Awesome bento, and pretty convenient. Most times because we get there early, there's a good selection. But I'm sure if you call early morning you can reserve some. Parking is limited but it's Worth it.

Excellent Bento, Best Chicken ever, been buying bentos from here for the past 8 years. Recently bought some bentos for some LE(Law Enforecement) officers not from the westside who had no clue about K's, they loved the chicken.

Cheap bento.... its home of the $5 Bento or $5.75 to add Shrimp. This hole in the wall just raised there prices this year. Still cheap for the size of bento and the quality of the food. The bento includes 2 types of sushi, hash, 3 pieces of chicken and half a hot dog. Located in Waipahu across the Jack in the Box, near Jenny's. The locals know the place and it does get crowded sometimes. Most times the bentos are gone by noon, so don't expect to get there late and have a cheap lunch. This is a must try hole in the wall.

Basically you hear the word "Bento" automatically think K's We buy boxes of this stuff for office functions or meetings because... 1) It taste GOOD 2) Big PORTIONS 3) CHEAP EATS! They pre-make tons of these stuff in the morning and when I say tons....TONS! You walk into this place and you see these amazing red bento boxes stacked and laid out wrapped with the cool rubber band design with chopsticks (Don't ask for a fork. What's the fun in that?) Something about the chicken they have just makes is taste soooooo good. They don't have all sorts of variety bentos or made to order bentos or a menu of bentos, it's just two types.... large or small. Grab one or a few, it's that simple. Thank goodness for making life easy. Literally, this stuff sells out fast so best time would be of course mornings when it's fresh but it's still good if it's the last man standing.

Nothing like an amazing K's Bento for breakfast or lunch. Growing up with this and the taste is still awesome. Must must TRY if you haven't!

I have to agree with everyone on yelp. I've been going to K's bento since the 90s and yes.. They hands down have the best bento on the island. Although I'm a huge fan of Jenni's and Zippy's Zip pacs, I'd drive out of my way early in the morning to beat the crowd for an awesome K's bento. Small Bento Includes: 3 Pieces of sweet chicken 1 Rice Musubi 2 Sushi 1 Hot dog piece 1 Potato Hash 1 Sweet Tamago (Egg) Love every piece of the bento except for the hot dog. The price of the bento recently went up a bit, but still definitely worth it. Make sure you don't go on a Monday because they're closed all day. To be sure to get a bento before they run out, get there between 530am and 10. K's bentoya sometimes has bentos between 10 and 11, but it all depends on the day. Would I go back? That is a GUARANTEE for sure. Foodie of the day? K's Bento!

Can I say Field Trip or little outing? This IS the place to go for a Bento for that. Well since I grew up in town I never got these bento's when I was a kid (not that I could have finished even the small one) at $4.75 and $5.75 just a great deal for a Bento of that size and easy to eat since they make all the rice into maki, musubi and cone sushi the Tamago (egg) is good too.

Love this place since I was in intermediate. Super bummed that they removed the hash. But the chicken is still good as always.

  • Hazel T.

Picked up a bento here twice around 10am and it wasn't as great to me as everyone said it was. The chicken was dry, but the out side of it was tasty for a second lol. My bento wasn't even warm so it wasn't that enjoyable. I think I'd rather drive to Mitsu-Ken in kalihi even tho its farther from where I live and the wait is longer seriously, plus it's cheaper! $6 for this bento wasn't worth my money honestly. Maybe I'll try this place one more time in the morning...one day...

K's Bento-ya sells 2 types of bento's. A small and large. There's nothing complicated here, you grab a bento, you pay, and leave. The small is pretty big and the only difference would be that the large has a piece of boiled shrimp, luncheon meat, and cone sushi. The price is also very reasonable. This place opens around 4 in the morning and they close by the time they run out of bentos'. They usually run out by 1 in the afternoon and on certain occasions they sometimes run out before noon. I recommend you CALL IN if your going to pick up a bento after 10 a.m., even if you just want 1 bento, just to be safe. I've been coming to K's for quite a while and I would usually buy food here since it's cheaper than the food in town. It holds up quite well even when it's cold. Their chicken is especially tasty when it comes right off the fryer because it's crunchy and juicy at it's peak. They call their chicken "Shyou Fried Chicken," and unfortunately I can't compare their chicken to anything because their chicken is different (in a good way). You would need to taste it for yourself. This is a good place to come if your going on a family picnic, beach, school field trip etc. I remembered in elementary when we'd go on field trips that a couple of student's and all the teachers would be eating K's bento-ya and the other kids would ask where they bought it.

The one thing I ask anyone coming to vegas from my home town waipahu..is K's bento! My boyfriend is from S.F. and once he got a hold of these bentos it was over. Each day he wanted one! He's still figuring out how to make the chicken. LOL. My parents just laughs. He tried to even look over the wall and peak! LOL. He's tried at least 3 times. Still hasn't gotten it. The best bento when going on a field trip when I was a kid. Those were the days. I love how its a hole in the wall, cheap, and delicious. Grew up on this stuff! It's comfort food.

I cannot even tell you how much I love this bento. I've been living on the mainland for 14 years now, but every time I come home to visit, I eat K's bento on the first day. And I take one back with me when I leave. When my mom comes to visit me in NYC, I make her bring a couple K's bentos. Everything about it is so ono, broke da mout, winnahs, no ka oi, zip pac doesn't even come close. So good, so good....

  • K K.

They have the best bento for under $5! This little "hole in the wall" place specializes in cheap tasty bentos. For $4.26 (tax included) you get a full sized bento that includes; Korean dipped chicken, hot dog, musubi, sushi, corned beef hash, and egg roll. The only draw back is they ONLY sell pre-made bentos. But it's not really a draw back since it's so good! Come early or call in your order because often times they sell out.

Go early because they run out! Everything in the Bento is sooooo good! Im drooling just typing this review. I wish I was back home right now, so I can go there.

I come to Hawaii at least once a year ever since I was growing up. I'm originally from the mainland, but every time I come back to Hawaii I have to get some Bentos!! I highly recommend this place, really local kine style I must say. Very yummy bentos for a good price. When I'm back on the mainland I always crave it!

  • Chevis H.

A meal for $6 that fills you up with ono food, thas one steal ! You can't go wrong with eating here at least once a month or even once a week. Comes with 3 pieces of delicious chicken, 3 rice balls, 1 slice of a hot dog, 1 potato hash, & sweet tamago. You will not regret buying this because it is so orgasmic. It's good to bring where ever, especially for school lunch or even on field trips because it's able to be eaten couple hours after you bought it. Try it ! I insist !

  • kai m.

Their Bentos are reasonably priced and they open for business at 430 am. The only thing I don't care for is the fried chicken on the bento. It is fried out so that it becomes really tough and dry and chewy. Their Maki Roll sushi is good too...

One Waipahu's treasured places to eat. I've been going here for years! Where else can you go for an awesome bento for under $5?

  • Hayl T.

Where else can you get a good sized bento for under 5 dollars? The chicken tastes great, I love the crunch of it as well. After a late night/early morning at a party or a club, I love to stop by here and grab one. This is the best thing you can eat 4 in the morning.

$4.75 for a regular bento. It's one of those mom and pops places you just need to try if you haven't yet. Best place to pick up lunch for a field trip :P

  • Jack T.

Today we went to K's and picked up the small bento's for $4.75ea. The bento had 1- musubi, 1- pc. maki, 1- onigiri, 1- sm. hash patty, 1-pc. fried tofu, 1- pc. 1/4 of a hotdog and 3 pcs. of fried chicken. For the price can't go wrong it was ok. But this place is strickly for take out only!

  • Mojojojo Y.

this place is famous for their cheap bentos and i just recently experienced my first and probably last one. i don't understand why people rave about this place when there are far better tasting bentos out there. i don't enjoy eating super dry, hard chicken, which was the main part of the bento. meh, to each their own. prices here are going up a dollar ($7) according to the sign they had by the register.

  • Cheryl K.

Oh my goodness. I have written many reviews and none on this place. my mom used to pack me K's bento's when I was little for my field trips. I could never appreciate it then since I used to eat so little. But now....whew. I can eat now. I absolutely love their chicken. You know that a place is good when they can sell two of the SAME bentos (small and large) for YEARS and they can stay afloat. They are open till they sell out which means you need to get there early! Their bentos are awesome! I am craving one right now! This place is literally a hole in the wall but oh so good! I think I am gonna get me one tomorrow. :)

    (5)
  • Margie N.

They have the best and reasonably priced bentos here! The only problem is you have to order ahead of time or else by the time you get there, there's none left! I believe they close early too so if you want to try their bentos, I suggest you call them a day in advance.

  • Mark G.

This brings me back to High School. I would always buy K's bento if I had a field trip. Go in and take a minute to look at the bentos to see which one has the biggest chicken, lol. Shoot, everybody would have K's bento. Its a really small place and located in a ghetto area but who cares because everything in their bento is good. Or I just come here 2-3 in the morning if I'm just hungry. Their chicken is hella bomb!

  • Euni T.

K's is a little hole in the wall tucked in the corner of a light blue building across Jack in the Crack in Waipahu. There's no place to sit and eat. You just pick up a bento that's on the counter, pay and go! You get your money's worth and really the only place i know that sells a good bento box for under $5...The bento box with the rubba band to keep the cover in place and the chop sticks stuck underneath. And yes, go early cause they sell out!

    (4)
  • Marivic P.

omgoodness gracious. k's is thee place to go for some AFFORDABLE ono bentos. absolutely love their mochiko chicken. it reminds me of high school field trips :) i take my kids there at least once a month. definitely my all time fave bento.

  • Brent M.

With the prices of plate lunches going up now days, K's is still the best deal around. Their chicken is delicious especially when eaten right after its made. You can either order a small or large bento. It opens early in the morning and closes when they sell out which is usually by noon or so. A must try when in Waipahu!

  • Karl K.

Their bentos are both CHEAP and GOOD! I was first introduced to them at UH football tail-gating back in the '80s when we took the easy way out by picking up bentos instead of stoking up the hibachi and Weber kettle. Today, I picked up two of the "smalls" for $6.00 each. This after getting "ripped" at McD's in the morning with their "exttra value" breakfast combos: Egg McMuffin @$4.79 + $1.49 up-charge for orange juice. Times two + tax = $13.15! The bentos were $12.00, no tax. The bento used to be $3.90 for years before they got raised to $4.75. Now, they're $6.00 (small) and $7.00 (large). I told the obachan behind the counter that it was about time they raised the prices. The three pieces of cayenne chicken, half shoyu hot dog, hash patty, fried tofu, musubi, and sushi (maki and pressed) are filling. We have continued to buy them for every football game. Often times, they sell out by 11:00 a.m., so it's best to call in your order early. Otherwise, when you get there, you'll see that dreaded "We're closed" sign, meaning they're all sold out. One time being left out in the cold was enough for me to have learned a lesson. Or, if you're lucky to get there just in time, you may find TWO musubis in the bento because they ran out of the sushi. Parking is a crapshoot unless you park in the stripmall across the street. If you want more variety than what they have, go elsewhere, but prepared to pay at least $2.00-3.00 more per bento. There was one time when they were closed, so the Zippy's Zip-Pac I had to settle for was not only more expensive, but a lot less satisfying.

  • H I.

wanting a reasonably priced bento for under $5, this is the place to go. comes with chicken, musubi, sushi, & hotdog. it's very tasty and the service is fast. on the down side, most times i crave it, they're closed. there are no set hours, they're open until they sell out, which is usually before noon. if you're an early bird or up late, they open at 430.
