Nice place, friendly owner, tasty chicken katsu.

Food is good, fairly reasonable. If she is working by herself, be prepared to wait if there are people with orders in front of you. I'd come back and try something else, but she really needs an assistant. My sis liked the moco, the omelet was an omelet, and sweet bread french toast was good.

Found this tiny place through Yelp. The staff was helpful and the food was amazing. Planned a whole other trip to Waimea around a return to this place. Yum!

Local feel, great service! I asked them to make my omelette with egg whites and they very graciously accommodated. The food was fresh cooked and very tasty.

  • Garry H.

Great grilled onion burger with cheese! Best onion rings and apple pie on the island! 5 stars for sure. Gina and her mom are great! Next to the movie theater here in Waimea. Drinks are over ice which is rare here. ( nice) Small cafe and friendly staff. Great home town flavor. Not normally open after 3pm. On occasion they may be open in the afternoons . Drive by to see.

Great atmosphere, great location, great food. My husband and I both had the French toast, and my son had the steak plate with scrambled eggs and rice. The food was served quickly, it tasted good, and the prices reasonable. And, the homemade pies are amazing!

Yumi's is great!!! The two ladies that were working were extremely nice. I asked what was good and they let me know what was fresh, local, imported, etc. I ended keeping it simple and getting a cheeseburger and curly fries. Good choice!!! The burger was cooked perfectly. Thanks for an awesome meal. Unfortunately, they were out of pie, but I will be back.

My cousins who frequent this place swear that this place makes some really good coconut pie and going first thing in the morning is the best time to go and get them otherwise it'll be all gone. So my dad goes there at about 7am and returns home with freshly baked coconut pies. They're huge! They look like empanadas but bigger than my hand. The filling is white and coconutty and oh so good. I barely ate half because it was so big and very sweet. --Yep, that's what I said!

  • Andrew G.

The Lava burger rocks! One of the best I've had! Visit this place! Yumi is just that! And the owner is amazing! Doing it all!

  • Colin E.

Good "home cooked" food although they were out of both pumpkin crunch and pie by the time we go there for lunch.

  • Aaron W.

Yumi's is a great Name! wish i thought of it! I agree with lilli g. you can miss it, but the land mark to look for is the Theater building it is in, you can't miss that! it's the only theater on that side of the island. had the standard breakfast, which is hard to mess up so I'll prop the Apple Pie! Their Fresh Baked Apple Pie, and i think they have some other flavors are more like really big turnovers (see the pic), but are quite delicious! not super sugary like supermarket kine, has a very homey taste to them, for got to ask if the one lady that was working the kitchen and register made them herself, but she had a bunch line up for the eating!

used to be Yumi's...now it's Gina's....Excellent food ... Gina and Tanya are the bomb...Food was outstanding...my honey had the lava burger..she called it "COW'...lol and I had the Katsu chicken moco...ummmmmm....we got there to late for the pies..one girl two steps before me got the last ones...trust me ...they are so ono...coconut and apple..we had pumpkin crunch...it was good...try this place... you will not regret it....

Went to breakfast here and so this review is just for that. Simple, greasy and decided to cook breakfast at home the next day. It was a bit overpriced for what it was. The staff was super friendly though and maybe better to check out next time for other meals.

My first Loco Moco! Chased it down with a piece of terrific pumpkin crunch! What a refreshing change from all those over priced tourist traps with mediocre food!

  • Sunny S.

This place is filled with straight up Aloha!! loved the smoked pork with eggs and french toast. loved the variety of hot sauces. loved the coconut pies. would return in a heartbeat!!

After visiting Waimea Canyon - 11 of us stopped here for lunch. Order at the counter, grab a seat and pay before you leave. Big gatorade cooler of water on top of a big ice machine made all the water self serve - perfect for us b/c us San Francisco mainlanders are still getting accustomed to the humidity and heat! We ordered several of the plate lunches ($9.50) - beef teriyaki, chicken katsu, loco moco and everything was served hot and delicious - with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni. The owner / staff was very friendly and super nice. While we were waiting for our food - we shared a pumpkin crunch which was rich and yummy!

  • Brian S.

Tasty island fare, inexpensive, and plenty of Aloha! Great Loco Moco! If you are visiting Waimea Canyon, you'll drive right by Yumi's. Be sure to stop!

  • Nellie S.

OH MY GOODNESS! I know my husband posted on here, but I gotta tell you too. Gina & Tonya ROCK! I ordered the lava burger & (drooling just thinking about it) it was DELICIOUS!!!! If you made a hamburger at home to grill, thats what it taste like. My honey got the Katsu Moco, the rice was all nice & fluffy with plenty brown gravy. FREINDLY, AFFORDABLE, DELICIOUS....what more do I need to say? OH YEA! You gotta try their pumpkin crunch too. Like every thing else, is ONOLISIOUS!

    (5)
  • Kathy S.

Yummy good! Beef in teriyaki lunch plate was soooo tender and the coconut pie was DELICIOUS!

    (5)
  • Jen S.

Ate burgers here after a long hike in the canyon. Their beef is local and mouthwatering! I suggest you ask for lettuce and tomatoes, as it doesn't come on the standard burger. Despite that, these were still so juicy and tasty. It's a long drive for us to return but we plan to before our vacation is over.

Great prices, good food, & friendly staff! We stopped here for a warm breakfast after camping in Koke'e. It was great...we both had an omelette with various veggies & they were delicious...the staff is so friendly as well. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, it's a very small spot, but at least you get good food for a low price & a smile!

  • Ray M.

Yah, i basically echo what all the others have said. Good spot.

Yumi's is a must stop when you are in Waimea, Kauai. Gina is carrying on Yumi's legacy & has created a peaceful uplifting space with ONO food. It was nice to talk story with Gina & some of her regulars. This weekend we were not able to try her "to die for" pies because of the busy Waimea High School's graduation, but, we will be back!

Great breakfast, great sandwiches, great prices, amazing service. This place is awesome.

  • Kitt H.

Very nice staff, and enjoyed our breakfast. I got the meal with 2 scrambled eggs, 2 hash browns, and Portuguese sausage (definitely get the sausage as your meat side, very tasty). The food was good and simply prepared. Definitely a good spot for breakfast.

First visit to Yumi's restaurant. We try to patronize local establishments as we live on Oahu and see a lot of small businesses go out-of-business. Today, we forego McD's, which would be cheaper and consistent, to support the local community. Breakfast (ToGo): ordered 3 different items and a side of toast. 1. Ham, Cheese, and mushroom omelet 2. Yumi's Breakfast: Choice of meat (Ham, Bacon, Portuguese Sausage), Eggs, and Rice. 3. Pancakes And Side order of white toast Overall description: Burnt (except for eggs) Appears that the cook likes to cook on high heat! 1. Omelet appeared beautiful on the outside (eggs) but inside was terribly burnt (ham and mushroom); looked and tasted charred (see picture). 2. Bacon was burnt, again cook must've cooked on high as center of bacon is burnt and ends are not. Again, eggs were okay; not burnt (see picture). 3. Pancakes, most children love pancakes, but not burnt pancakes. So burned, that when we first opened the container charred flakes of pancakes are shown on the top portion of container (see picture). Okay, so my daughter passes on the pancakes and decides she'll eat the toast...until we pull it out of the sleeve and see; can you guess? Yup, burnt toast!!! Funny thing is, is that my husband requested "lightly toasted" as that's how my daughter prefers it! Off to McDonald's... I would not return to this restaurant or recommend it to anyone unless they want burnt and charred food. I would usually return the food and allow the establishment to correct the order but we were on-the-go. I am very disappointed that they would let food like this leave their restaurant!

Well, third time on Kauai and third tasty, yummy meal on the island. Nuff said! Can't recommend her pies or pumpkin crunch enough. Except don't get them when I come to Kauai cause I don't want to miss out on them.

  • Nadine F.

This is a really good option for breakfast on your way to or from the Canyon. I had the "mini boobie", which was an egg on top of hash browns and a hamburger patty, covered in gravy, plus a side of rice. I'm not generally a huge fan of things covered in gravy, but Yumi's had really really good gravy. The waitress/cashier was super nice. We were loitering outside with our coffee after our meal, and she came out to give us a map and some tips on the drive to the canyon and things to see.

I love this place! I have been eating here since grade school when it was owned by some elderly Asian people. It was just a deli counter back in the early 80's and in high school (right next door) we used to sneak out at lunch to go to Yumi's for burgers and fries. Luckily for all of us, when Gina took over Yumi's, she also kept the same recipes and added some of her own. The burgers are so flavorful and filling! My kids love the loco mocos, and grandparents love the apple turnovers! Lucky for me it is on my way to work, so whenever I'm craving some homemade comfort food, I can stop and get my burger fix on the way!

    (5)
  • David F.

Nothing fancy, and I when I say that I mean paper plates but it was cheap yummy comfort food. I had the deluxe cheeseburger and some fries and I was surprised how good it was. The staff was super friendly and my wife and I would definitely hit it again next time we were in the area.

This place is spectacular! Sure it's on the small side but what it lacks in seating, it makes up for in flavor and kindness! This is the first restaurant our family of 4 ate at after moving to the island and we were, and still are, pleased. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is like home. Gina and her mom go the extra mile to make you feel like you belong. Every visit is fulfilling and every meal is a treat! The more we got to know these two outstanding women the more we learned about their pride for the restaurant and the community. It was a wonderful surprise to learn that much of what Gina cooks with comes from the local community. I for one can tell the difference between processed, packed and shipped meat and locally grown so it was a welcome bonus from this favorite. I would highly recommend this as a stop for breakfast or lunch and a great cup of coffee.

  • Chris K.

Really nice people, great service, homey feel, and yummy food with a Hawaiian flare. Had the French toast which was fluffy, sweet, with a side of spam : ). Wife had the chicken cutlet with mushrooms and onions which was crispy/crunchy on the outside and moist o. The inside with savory gravy. And the coconut pie YUM! This is no coconut CREAM pie with very little coconut. This is homemade pies filled with coconut, moist, not too sweet, and crumbly crust. Didn't think we could eat the whole slice, but did with ease

  • Bryan C.

Stopped in after a walk on the beach and a trip to Waimea Canyon. Even though it was almost lunch, we both had breakfast. I had the Waimea Wipe Out and my wife had the French Toast. Both were fantastic. I had them put gravy on the rice. Gravy is good on everything.

  • Lyndsey D.

BEST LOCO MOCO EVER!!!!!! The hamburger patty is homemade & is the best!! Add the mushrooms & onions for $1.50, so worth it. And the service is awesome. The apple pie is awesome. Flakey and amazing. Best meal we've had on Kauai by far. And affordable! If you drive through Waimea and don't stop at Yumi's, you might as well just go home because you're not experiencing Kauai. So awesome!

  • stephanie d.

Pumpkin crunch, Pumpkin crunch, Pumpkin crunch!!! Oh and Coconut Pie :) Yumi's was a great place for lunch or a snack. We stopped here several times and enjoyed the food and the service, both were definitely five stars. I think we will need to drive back before we head to the airport!

  • Graham K.

I wanted to like it more, really did. Not sure what all the fuss is on the Loco Moco. The Chicken Katsu was good, the sauce was kind of bland though. Great service. Hot in there, fans work just OK. We had a chance to go back, and didn't take it.....

  • Alan K.

Tasty food and big portions! Stopped in at this gem for breakfast on our way up to the canyon. I ordered the special omelet, which was delicious and satisfying, with big chunks of bacon and sausage. Service is good and everything was pretty inexpensive. Would definitelt return!

    (4)
  • G P.

Service was good but food was just ok. The burgers we got were nothing extraordinary. The fries were great. I find it it funny that they charge a dollar to make the burger deluxe which is adding lettuce and a tomato. Otherwise it would have been just bread meat and mayo/ ketchup....

    (4)
  • Hiep N.

Get the Pumpkin Crunch! It's similar to pumpkin pie topped with cream cheese frosting. This is a decent breakfast spot on the way to Waimea. Nothing fancy, but good food with reasonable prices.

  • Pat M.

First time to Yumi's and was well worth the drive from Lihue. Gina and mom are great people warm and friendly. Ordered the Lava burger and a teri cheeseburger, both were one of the best burgers on Kauai. Home made for sure local beef. Yummy! Gotta order the lava burger. We will be ack to order the other yummy delites on their menu!!

  • Emily M.

Nothing to write home about food-wise so the rating is 3 for average. We stopped here for a quick breakfast before heading up into Waimea canyon. Ordered two waimea wave omelets, one breakfast plate and one side of eggs and toast. The hash browns are basically like the hash brown patties at mcdonalds except greasier. The omelets were fine. Go here only if there's nothing else open or you want a super local diner experience.

  • John P.

Just a great little spot on the West Side. Owner Gina is super cool and the food is simple but great. Good place to take kids as well. It's not 5 stars like the Hyatt - it just ticks off every box in the cute family-run diner place category. Also it's SUPER CHEAP - maybe 10% more than going to McDs. I saw a couple tourists do the "put your hand on the window" to see inside and then decide to pass - big mistake. Shrimp Station is fine, but this place mo' bettah.

  • Mike J.

This place is awesome! My wife and I both got the Lava burger and we agreed these were the best burgers we've had in many years. So tender you hardly need to chew and bursting with flavor. Excellent and personable service. Way better than any place we ate on the north side of the island.

    (5)
  • Janet G.

We had been wanting to try locally grazed beef since we've had so much fish. This place was awesome burgers were so juicy and delicious you can't go wrong. Either on your way into the canyon or out great spot.

So glad we stopped by this place on our way to the beach. Service is excellent and the food is delicious. Burgers are very flavorful. My son had french toast and hash browns, he wants to eat here EVERYDAY.

I really feel I should warn people who rely on Yelp about this place so they will not waste their time or money. My son (21 years old) and I were going to go hiking and decided to pick a breakfast place based on Yelp reviews. We chose Yumi's based on the ratings. I find it perplexing that anyone would give this place five stars? The girl at the counter was completely vapid. Since she was about the same age as my son, I was surprised that she had the personality of a piece of wood. I asked her if I could have milk with my coffee and she said, "we don't have any milk, we have creamer." I wasn't sure I heard her correctly because you need milk to make pancakes, French toast, etc. and this was a breakfast restaurant. So, I said, "you sure you don't have any milk?" Again, she said, "no, we don't have any milk." Anyhow, we went ahead and ordered French toast, bacon and hash browns. The food came out on cheap, thin paper plates with plastic forks and a single ply paper napkin. I asked for ketchup to put on the hash browns and the same girl pointed to some ketchup packets, but added a bit of a nasty attitude on top of it. Maybe it was an off day, but seriously, paying over $20.00 + for two orders of French toast, a previously frozen square of greasy (not crispy) hash browns and some flimsy bacon is not worth it. Add that together with a girl with a nasty attitude, cheap plastic utensils, paper plates and ketchup packets? How could anyone possibly rate this place as five stars? It was more like going to a picnic instead of a restaurant. The place has many nice sayings all over about being happy, having a good attitude, and showing the Aloha spirit. We found it very ironic that this girl had the worst personality and attitude of anyone we came across while in Kauai. The food was very marginal too. This was by far the worst breakfast restaurant we have ever eaten at. I cannot recommend it on any level.

  • Chris P.

Great breakfast, show up around 9:30 if you don't want to wait in line for a while. Recommend the French toast and breakfast platter, both were freshly made from scratch.

  • Brittany H.

This place is so cute, quaint, yummy, and convenient for heading to Waimea Canyon. We got the loco moco, breakfast platter with Portuguese sausage, and the French toast. The hit was definitely the French toast which was really good. Everything was good! The lady working the front register was so friendly and helped us with directions. Oh, and it's a good price! Try this place for a good, quick breakfast!

  • Michele G.

My boyfriend and I were really hungry but wanted to make an informed decision. We also wanted to sample the local eats. Glad I read the reviews on this little gem because it exceeded our expectations. My man tried the Loco Moco. It was delicious! The beef was noticeably tastier than we had had before. It's local grass fed. It reminded me of something my mother made when I was growing up. Very comforting. I had the French toast with Portuguese sausage on the side. One of the things I liked about the meal was it wasn't too sweet, greasy or salty. Needless to say, we were both very satisfied. The owner was gracious and came outside to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Very friendly and personable. Thank you, Yumi's! Keep doing what you're doing!

Wish we could have eaten here, but after heading back down from Waimea they were closed!

  • Russell S.

Good food at surprisingly good prices for Kauai! I got the volcano burger- a double party with cheese in the middle and on top, layered with sautéed onion. Waffle fries are also available, which is a plus. If driving by on your way to or from Waimea canyon, this would be a good pit stop!

  • Janelle P.

Wowzers! The beef teriyaki / chicken katsu lunch plate was YUUMMMYYY! I don't think that I have ever eaten beef teriyaki that good. The chicken came with a sauce that I LOVED! Both the sauce AND Beef were sweet. However, I love sweet and spicy. The service was amazing too! My hubby got the Loco Moco. He sad it was good but not the best that he got on the island. Staff came out to give us local island tips and to tell us events that were happening locally! Definitely stop for lunch on your way to the Canyon's. You won't regret it!

  • Mark B.

Great little place for a quick bite. Staff was super nice. Went in with family of 8. Most had burgers, which were great. Chicken Katsu was good to. I had the Loco Moco but with hash browns instead of rice. Excellent! Really glad we stopped.

  • Elizabeth N.

I'd like to give 5 stars for the owners as they are just so nice and you can tell they put their heart into every meal and it shows. However, the food to me was just 3 stars...it was okay to me as I felt I could have made a meal just as comparable but again you just can't deny that the ladies in here are doing what they love and care about each and every visitor. They were friendly, would ask questions, talk story with you and made you feel very at ease. We had the loco moco plate and the french toast, and a I bought some of the apple pies. The loco moco was okay, it actually tasted like something my mom makes as I could taste the onions, some Worcestershire? in there too. And lots of gravy that was alright. The french toast was better, it was a sweet bread and that made the difference. I liked their bacon, it was perfectly crispy and crunchy....just a little on the burnt side to get it like that and that's how I prefer it. The apple pie was not sweet at all and a surprisingly a bit bland or non-sugary as I'm used to getting (maybe that's a good thing!) and more doughy than flaky. But the owner wakes up at 4am everyday to make it from scratch and it does have a rustic quality to it that's comforting. But I should have tried the pumpkin roll that was sitting in the fridge display, that looked good! Pros: -The nicest people in there, lots of Aloha. -Clean restaurant, help yourself kind of set up -Honest home cooking I won't put any cons up here as you can tell thees people are doing their best and love what they do. =)

The best loco moco on the island!! We got it with hash browns instead of rice (it's called the Boobie on their menu) and it was so good! Good size portions and the gravy was so yummy. We've stopped here for lunch the last 2 times we drove up to the canyon. We tried the Pumpkin Crunch which was good but a little too sweet for us. We visit Kauai every year and Yumi's is on our list of places we eat at every time we come!

  • Jessica S.

The French toast has always been my favorite breakfast item . I love the sweet bread . I would always call in my order on my way to school and it's ready once I get in to pick it up . I've had the loco moco , hamburger steak , lava burger , tuna melt , and the BLT . All of them were delicious . The burgers were perfectly seasoned and cooked . Aunty Gina is filled with smiles, laughs and aloha. Her service is great ! Must get the pumpkin crunch too for dessert ! :) everything is yum !

We have visted this place twice, once in Jan 2014 and now April 2014. The first time in Jan 2014, we ordered the little Ray Jay LocoMoco and it was tasty. Than when we returned for another vacation in April, we thought lets go back to Yumi's to see if it is just asgood as the first time. We had the same little Ray Jay LocoMoco, and yes it was just as good as last time. So people out there Yumi's is the place that has great food and great service. Next time we return for a vacation we are assure to come here again.

While on our way to the waimea canyon, my wife and I decided to get breakfast on the way but wanted to avoid the Mickey-d's favorite our daughter so desperately wanted. Some Kauai tour book and urbanspoon reccomended a local grind called obsessions but we couldn't find it. Long story short, if you're looking for some good breakfast, low key & friendly location, yumi's is it. Right off hwy 50, just before you leave the town of waimea. I think it may be the only breakfast spot closest to the start of the canyon. Just wanted to pass this along.

Yumi's in Waimea - This place has been on my list to try for 3 years. I've heard about these turnover pies (shaped like a calzone) filled with either coconut or apple. They keep fairly short morning hours and have always been closed when we came by (early for fishing). Finally, they are open! Tiny place by the Waimea Theater on the hwy. Someone bought out all of the pies to take to Honolulu....booooooooo. A couple of days later, we came by again on our way to Polihale. There's no place to park on their side, so we turn around and park across the road. A car stops for us to cross the road so I hurry ....the pavement is raised a bit where the double yellow line is, I trip and fall smack down across the line, spread eagle. Good Lord that hurt my knees and my right elbow....I'm nearly in tears, Hubby helps me back to the car and I'm so mad at myself - what if I can't walk for the next few days???? We still have 8 days left!!! Hubby leaves me in the car and comes back with a coconut pie - I had to eat it later when the pain subsided....and thankfully, all I had were bruises - and the pie is terrific!! I think the pies are $3.50. 4.5 stars photos: picasaweb.google.com/3Ch… picasaweb.google.com/3Ch…

Best burger I have had in many years. My husband and I stopped in a couple of weeks ago while looking for a new home on Kauai. Now, I'm a professional chef for many years, have eaten in many places all over the country, and been living in Hawaii for the last several years. And food doesn't get much better than what I had at Yumi's. The portion sizes were very generous, and the service and atmosphere were very warm & friendly. As Yumi's was our first impression of the Waimea/Kekaha area, We decided immediately to move into the neighborhood, where we can enjoy lunch here as often as possible. Eat at Yumi's. So it has been written. So shall it be done :)

Stopped at this great little spot after visiting Waimea Canyon. Thank God for smart phones and yelp or we would've had no idea where to go for lunch. When you walk in, you see one lady ( I guess is the owner ) who takes the orders and COOKS and serves the food. Yes..she does it all! Don't expect light speed service because she is by herself. But considering this, she does a great job. BF ordered the katsu chicken and I ordered the teri beef sandwhich with curly fries. Both were pretty good. Nothing crazy spectacular but defintely satisfied our hunger. After reading the reviews - I really wanted to try the pies but we were too late and they were all gone :( Hopefully I get to come back to Kauai so I can try one them home made pies.

Gina is fantastic! She catered my wedding in Kokee. I'm still getting compliments on the food :D She works with you to customize you menu- there's really nothing she can't do. I wanted a chicken curry salad that was discontinued at this other place and not only did she make it but she made it better. She's a great person to work with and be around, really makes you feel like you're family. And OMG- the aiolis and homemade tortilla chips! The best was the saimin bar she set up for the people who stayed late. Don't tell Hamura's but...it was better. No joke. She makes the broth from scratch. I can't say enough about the awesomeness that is Gina. Will definitely use her services again!

Solid 4-star eatery. The lady who took our orders was super nice and steered us toward the mini-plates which were cheaper and still had a huge amount of food. I got chicken katsu, the BF got loco moco, and shared a coconut pie. Yum!

Gina has the best! Loco moco and Lava burgers are awesome! As I was saying the last of my Good-bye's Gina's MOM (I am the one that always call her that) got very teary eyed as well as I.....I will miss your wonderful little restaurant and the way you dote over your customers. I have been here so many times and have never been disappointed. Mahalo!

Blink and you'll miss this place. And being that it's just about the only place open for breakfast in Waimea, we were skeptical at first, but thought we'd give it a shot. Glad we did. Had the loco moco with mushroom and onions on top. One of the best loco mocos we've ever had (~$8). Also had the french toast (~$4). A daring selection given we were in a local food joint, but it too was the most delectable french toast we've ever had. Perfectly flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg and had a nice, almost custardy consistency in the middle (how I love my french toast). Also got an apple pie to go because it was sitting in the display and calling out to us ($3). It was ok. Lady at the register (Yumi?) was super nice and explained the menu to locals and tourists alike. Even tolerated some haoles who walked in looking for salad. A great local find.

We were just there a few days ago and ordered two plate lunches to go on the way to Waimea Canyon. They were Loco Moco and Katsu Chicken (fried chicken cutlets). Both were fabulous! We were surprised how nice and juicy the Katsu Chicken was since most restaurants made very very dry. Also, the people were very nice and pleasant to talk to. Two thumbs up! :-)

Five stars because this is the kind of place that I love to stumble on--quaint with unexpectedly delicious food! Located in the old Waimea Theater (where my Mother swears used to house elderly people in her day...) Anyway, three of us were working in the area and decided to try across the street, where Yumi's is located. Two of us ate the mini teriyaki and one ate the loco moco. The teriyaki was so soft and yummy. My friend raved about the loco moco. Noticed Gina Duarte's name on her apron and made the connection that I met her Aunty Louise Duarte of Pakala in a restaurant in North Beach, San Francisco. Couldn't remember the name of the restaurant at the time, but it has come to me! Gina, your Aunty is at Sotto Mare on Green Street! She's beautiful, and we had a blast with her! Call her! Anyway, see you again when I bring my family in. Thanks for a super ono lunch! Take care.

I was excited to try Yumi's after reading all the reviews on Yelp and honestly I don't get it. There were five of us and we all agreed. I think maybe the issue is we went for breakfast. Food was hot but nothing special, the owner was nice, the coffee was average to fair, the pricing no great bargain (2 eggs with toast and a couple of slices of off -tasting Portuguese sausage for $7.50) compared to other great little breakfast places around the island. It's fine if you are in a pinch to find someplace to eat. We tried the famous apple pie and it was good but not great. Next time I am in the area, we'll give it a try for lunch and maybe have better luck. I usually love little places like this.

Yumi's was YUMMY! Not only was the food really tasty, but the cost was crazy low and the people were so nice. Tried the loco mono, and the chicken katsu. Also tried the apple pies. All very nice, home cooked and super filling. While we were there, they got a delivery of grilled chicken (huli huli chicken) for their own family's lunch and we commented on the amazing smell. They actually gave us a portion for free, just to share. Who does that? Yumi does! A little gem that showed us once more the amazing hospitality and good nature of the hawaian people

I haven't had a Yumi's Coconut Pie since freshmen year in high school. It was super sad when one of the original ladies that ran the place couldn't do it anymore, and they ran their busiess out of the Boys & Girls club right across the high school practice field. After that, Yumi's became an afterthought. But needeless to say...I TOTALLY miss their Cococut pies and the ohhhh so ONO Loco Moco with Mushrooms and Onions. I am definitely making a stop at Yumi's when I get back home to Kauai in August. Kekaha (and Waimea), oh how I've missed you!!!!

This place is great. We ate there for breakfast and lunch in the same day. We had Hawaiian French Toast, Loco Moco's, Chicken Katsu and my favorite was the Teri Beef sandwiches. We took home 2 of the coconut pies and they were awesome. You can call in and reserve your pies so you won't miss out if you can't get there in the morning before they run out.

We stopped by Yumi's on our way back from Waimea Canyon, in search of a cool local spot to eat some authentic food. Using my iPad (yes, I admit, I couldn't leave the damn thing back home) I was able to locate Yumi's restaurant on Yelp & the reviews were great. As soon as we walked in, we were quickly greeted by the kind woman at the counter (I believe she was the owner). We immediately felt at home and proceeded to review the menu. There seems to be a wonderful Breakfast menu, but since we were there for lunch, I settled on the mini plate of Chicken Katsu with a side of macaroni salad and my boyfriend got the beef terriyaki with rice & macaroni. The food was quickly made fresh and brought to us with sides of ketchup and a pepper water that was similar to hot sauce. We immediately agreed that this was the best meal we've experienced during our one week stay on Kauai. My chicken was crisp on the outside & melted like butter on the inside. The beef was sweet & tangy. Overall, the food was fresh and prepared exceptionally. My only regret is that we arrived too late in the afternoon to enjoy the homemade Apple Pie, so come early!

As preorder reviews, you need to come early for pie- we were there at Noon and they were sold out. Pumpkin crunch us great. 4 Stars fir local flavor and service, food is 3 stars
