Don't know where to start on what a nice surprise this place was after a long day exploring the island. We started with a fresh local microbrew in the bottle for me and a Pinot Grigio for her. The waiter offered to let us try the house Cab in a generous sampler and she opted for the white. The atmosphere was slightly upscale and would be right at home in West LA. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer that came piled high on 4 pieces of fresh French bread with a slice of Parmesan across the top. The tomatoes were ripe with a perfect amount of garlic and balsamic and At $7 this was a bargain. We then enjoyed a Mediterranean salad for $11 which had excellent local greens and just the right amount of everything. We ended up sharing a small pizza with goat cheese and onions and figs that was excellent. The crust was a little dry so I asked for a side of marinara to dip it in and the waiter delivered a comped and generous portion. If you like fresh salads and Italian food you won't be disappointed. The waiter was attentive and friendly. And the total bill was mainland priced reasonable considering the quality of this food. Sorry to drone on here but we were extremely satisfied with our choice and left with smiles.

Impressed. The pork belly crostini is amazing. I would have ordered another to go, if I wasn't already so full (very generous portions....) Caprese was also very delicious. The chili flakes in my puttanesca was a little heavy handed, but it was still full of flavor. Wife had the chicken breast sandwich, which she says was really good. The service was also very attentive and welcoming. The server had a good understanding of what was coming out of the kitchen and made some good recommendations. We'll definitely stop by again when we are back in town.

Best restaurant in town. The food was excellent. The staff was extremely accommodating and went the extra mile. I would eat here again. Their pizzas and wines are very good. Tuesday nights are half off wines.

Excellent dinner tonight. The special was cream of mushroom with just the right amount of cream and mushrooms. The Ravi with Italian sausage is a hearty meal. Remember they make their own pasta!

We ate here in March of 2015. My wife ordered the marinara pasta with meatballs and I ordered the carbonara. The food served here is classic / authentic italian made with fresh and local ingredients; e.g. the KEY to quality italian. Both pasta dishes contained house-made pasta (very good), the marinara was house made with local tomatoes (delish) and the meatballs were excellent (though they were spicy!). My carbonara was excellent and very authentic! House made pasta, soft boiled egg on top (as is customary), and the use of pork belly in place of pancetta (nice local touch). My only critique was that the carbonara sauce needed a little more seasoning, but it was delightful. Wait staff were great and prices were VERY reasonable. I would highly recommend Luna if you want legit italian. If you are looking for cookie cutter / plastic Americanized "I-talian" this is not your spot. This is the real-deal. If we have the pleasure of returning to Hawaii we will most def. be back here!

Just got done eating here. I ordered the carbonara, and it was crap. It tasted heavy garlic. The "bacon" was pork belly. Which I'm ok with since I eat a lot of Korean food. But it was just really gross the egg was this under cooked half hard boiled egg. The garlic was very very strong. The box wine that I think they put in was crap too. The wait staff was ok. I asked for garlic bread and the lady forgot. I also asked for oil and vinegar, again the lady forgot. The only good thing was the guys I ate with said their food was good. I might try this place again.

The wait staff were friendly. The atmosphere was nice. The place was clean. The service was quick. We ordered pasta, it was al dente. Some members of our party did not like their pasta hard. The potions were large. The meatballs were a little to spicy. As the waitress informed us they would be. The Ragu sauce was tasty. The marinara sauce was tasteless. The side salad was a good size but the chicken was a little on the tuff side. We were disappointed that everything was a la carte. 2 meatball were $7.00. The garlic bread was $4.00. Cheese bread was $6.00, all on top of the price of the pastas. In our opinion this restaurant comes up short on value.

New Restraunt in Wiamea Hi. Great Italian food superb appetizers and excellent pizza. They have only been on business for 3 mo. But they are off to a great start. They even have a good selection of Italian and CA wines. This place is a must if you are jonesing for good Italian food while on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Service was friendly, food was bomb. Had the pollo sandwich with the soup of the day. Everything was delicious. Only note would be how they run your credit card, it doesn't give you the freedom to tip what you want. It gives you 3 options, to tip 15, 20, or 25%. Not a very big deal to me, just thought it was strange. Otherwise everything was fantastic!

Food is great, if you want to wait 45 minutes or longer. Owner came out and said, next time we'll time your order, so bring a stop watch. ?? Also got a dumb look when I showed her my CHIPPED beer glass. No apology. ?? No more next time for me.

Returned to Luna a year later and still amazing! So glad I got to come back, felt very welcomed! Unfortunately, I couldn't resist digging in and missed getting a photo of my lovely Puttanesca, thank you again Luna staff!

My mom and I came to Luna before heading over to see the awesome show Medea at Parker School. We figured we'd get a quick lunch in before the show so we don't disturb everyone with our growling stomachs. The service took a little time, but once the food arrived we chowed down. My mom had the fish sandwich and I the classico. We ate everything on our plates and were very satisfied. Sadly, after the play my mom wasn't feeling too well. We thought it might have been due to the tomato-basil bisque that accompanied her sandwich. I opted for the salad and had some gastrointestinal complaints. I would come back again to really enjoy the restaurant, we were pressed for time so I didn't really get a good look at everything. But I had eaten in the same spot when it was Solimene's and really enjoyed it. I'll be back to check out other items on the menu!

Service is exceptional! I loved talking with the staff. I went there the day before a hurricane was about to hit and our chef came out to "apologize" that the butter delivery did not come. Instead, he homemade butter himself to serve with a delightful soft brioche. It was amazing and you could taste the freshness. The pizza is spot-on! And service was relatively good paced. Try their desserts made fresh! They are exceptional.

A great find for me and my husband. The bruschetta sampler is to die for. I love the balsamic reduction drizzled on top of the bruschetta. The pork belly is great. We ordered marinara pasta with meat balls which is really awesome. Big portion, fresh ingredients, super good service. We are so thankful that we tried this restaurant despite that they only have 5 reviews. Luna is a keeper!!! Don't miss this place when you come to Waimea. Price is reasonable and the food is awesome!!!! We will surely comeback and try their pizza

I love this place. The new ownership kept the best of the old menu while improving the service and price. Truly worth a stop if you are visiting Kamuela on the Big Island. The locals already know...

Just finished dinner at Luna's. SERVICE: not attentive. No refills on water, no ask for another wine, slow to deliver salads and entrees, nothing that made you feel "served". FOOD: our table had Cesar salad, eggplant Parmesan, Ragu, and 10" pizza. All items were filled with parsley and there was parsley sprig on the table...odd. Sauce on both dishes was seemingly identical. Italian sausage in the Ragu was good but be prepared it's quite spicy. Cesar was tasty but had about two croutons in it. They do not serve house bread. Amazing, first time I've experienced an Italian restaurant that didn't offer house bread. AMBIENCE: Meh. PRICE: $105.00 including tip, two salads, one Ragu, one eggplant parmigiana, one 10" pizza, two teas, and one house Cab. SPECIAL NOTE: both wife and I had gastric upset by the time we got home. Won't return.

Pretty good except for how expensive it is and the part where I got food poisoning that lasted days. But service is ok and I lost eight pounds.

Luna's was sadly a no go for me. When I go to a Italian restaurant I expect good Italian food. The pasta was over cooked, no salt or pepper and the flavor was all off. Nothing flowed together, it was a bunch of ingredient thrown together and cook. I was greatly disappointed

What a wonderful little place, very friendly staff, and really good, local, fresh food. Everything brought to our table was top notch. Had the caprisi sandwich, soo good. Also tried the veggie sandwich, which is so good it satisfied this meat lover. The espresso at the end, which our lovely waitress brewed at their coffee bar, was spectacular. If i ever find myself in Waimea again i know where I'm eating!

The family and I have eaten here a couple of times and overall we have been happy with the food and service. We all agree that the pizzas are our favorite dish so far and we're so thankful that they do the crust properly, thin like in Italy!! We have always had wonderful, attentive service from Brett. We'll keep coming back, mahalo!

Went in for dinner on Saturday. The restaurant was nice and busy. ordered the beef ravioli on pesto to start and it was super. You could tell the pasta was homemade and fresh and the pesto was full of flavor. with that I had the ragu also fresh pasta and full of chunky veggies and flavor. They had bone marrow on special...never had and it was great. The service was 100% better than when it was the other restaurant. will go again

I went here with friends for lunch the other day. The fish sandwich was delicious but the service was not. Very slow - food took 30 minutes. Server brought out the wrong item for my friends and it took at least 10 minutes to get the correct order. Love the food - NEED to work on the service. Nice people with no sense of urgency.

Just got take out from Luna's... all I can say is I miss Solimene's! First they charged me extra for getting a half order (she could've told me when I placed the order over the phone) then they charged me for my take out container. Pasta was just ok. Definitely not worth my $12. for a really small portion of barely any noodles!

Service was Horrible, Tables set with the last diner's mess left underneath and new customers seated at the table. Ordered 4 Ice Teas the server brought 1 spoon for all four customers to share. Food was dry not enough sauce and not seasoned. However the restaurant's love of parsley is evident in the food as well as the table decorations. Garlic Cream Sauce smelled of Raw Garlic.

The pizza with goat cheese, caramelized onion, figs, mozzarella, and arugula was outstanding and the crust was baked perfectly. Two thumbs up! We will definitely be back!

Glad they were open late as we were starving. Dinner was fantastic. We had pizzas and pasta and I had the special chicken confit which was very good. Highlight for me was the vanilla bandino dessert-outstanding.

Well prepared, homemade, authentic Italian! We were pleased with the quality of our meal. We started off with a rich braised beef soup accompanied by crusty bread topped with pesto and cheese. Dinner quickly followed, a large plate of home made, fresh pasta. I got the marinara with meatballs and my husband the carbonara . Both were excellent! We finished off our dinner with a lavender infused Panna cotta topped with crunchy sweet nuts and maceration strawberries. Amazing. Service was extremely friendly and efficient.

Fantastic. Absolutely everything was as fresh as possible and wonderful. We shared two entrees at lunch. They were served with either salad or soup. Super fresh and well priced considering the generous portions. Also shared the tiramisu and panna cotta, both made on site. These were over the top! Service was warm and friendly; both owners were also working the floor today and stopped to visit. This is a don't miss if you are looking to dine in Waimea. Two thumbs up!

My wife and I have been going to this same location for years but something was different,as there were only four other people there and it was noon.I couldnt remember the name so I asked the waitress and she said they were new since last may and offered not other info. The menu was rather spendy for lunch 18-20 $ for the main dish and bread was listed as an horderves. We dicided to give it a try and ordered two beers at six dollars each.I know things are spendy here and I dont mind paying the prices but It better be good.Even with only a few people there and some getting there after we did but getting ther order before us,we dicided to walk out after waiting a half hour. After reading my reviews for the previous restaurant I found out they moved a few doors down and the name was Solimene's.What a difference between the two.R Muller

Loved the caramelized onion and arugula pizza! It was delicious but the best part was how they asked me how thick I wanted the crust! I thought that was great, never happened to me before. Very nice people as well.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
