Wow. This place is amazing. About 15-20 minutes away from Hapuna Prince Hotel in Kamuela where we were staying. Very low key but their fish are super fresh. I believe it's a husband and wife business. The server and cashier is the wife and husband is the chef, I assume. You can tell that they are new to business based off their simple website and look of their business but their service is incredible. It really broke my heart how genuine and sweet they were. They spoke understand and can speak English but I can tell it wasn't their forte. We tried their salmon bowl, yellow tail spicy hand roll and many of their appetizers. Best sushi I've ever had, hands down. Support their business! I know it doesn't look all that great but don't judge a book by its cover. You can tell they are working their tail off to make their business run but trust me, it's worth to visit them! They are always smiling and that's the best attitude you can have. I will visit again when I'm on the big island.
What a find! We were looking for a solid Japanese place but couldn't find one we liked near the Kona area. We drove up to Waimea to try this place, and we were not disappointed. First off, the miso soup here is legit. You can taste that they use good fish broth, which adds a great flavor. The Hamachi Kama is cheaper than most places I've seen, yet better! Crunchy on the outside, moist and delicious inside. Also tried the salmon skin salad (delicious) and the bowl with fish and unagi (also delicious!). Will be going back when we're on the big island again for sure.
Excellent food and friendly service. I had the real crab roll, fried oysters, and hamachi karma for lunch and everything was delicious :)

Awesome place for breakfast. HUGE pancakes! Nice people. Best breakfast in Waimea. We enjoyed our experience here.
Just a heads up to y'all that this place is CASH only... Well worth the drive from Waikaloa, especially if you want to avoid the over-priced standard fare at the resorts. Be prepared to wait a bit, even though you see empty tables and counter space - you'll need to write your party down on the list and the staff gets to it when they get to it. Nonetheless, fast and friendly service from the time you sit down. I had the mixed plate and enjoyed the generous portions. My husband had the big mok and commented that the gravy was really really good. The meals were reasonably priced. Be sure to come with an appetite! Thanks for the local fare!
HUGEEEE portions! Like the two pancake breakfast should only be one, the plate was giant. The food itself is fine, nothing too special but not horrible. I got the breakfast burrito special, and it was like any other burrito I've had. My only complaint is that there isn't a place for large parties to sit. We had to break up into multiple groups to fit at the booths and at the counters. Though we all arrived at the same time, the first table had food before the rest were able to even sit.

Nice place, friendly owner, tasty chicken katsu.
Food is good, fairly reasonable. If she is working by herself, be prepared to wait if there are people with orders in front of you. I'd come back and try something else, but she really needs an assistant. My sis liked the moco, the omelet was an omelet, and sweet bread french toast was good.
Found this tiny place through Yelp. The staff was helpful and the food was amazing. Planned a whole other trip to Waimea around a return to this place. Yum!

Inn Waimea is by no means fancy, but has very clean and very affordable spacious rooms, and it is centrally located to shopping and food. I like that you are provided with both a sleeping area and a sitting room and there is free WiFi. The manager, Lorraine, is friendly and very low key. We decided to spend a few nights in Waimea to see Waimea Canyon and do some hiking in Koke'e State Park and it was worth it. Waimea is a small town and off the beaten path, but it's ideal if you want to get up early to hike or see the canyon (which was often fogged in by 11am during out stay). If you stay in town, you should definitely check out Salt Pond beach. I also recommend getting a bagel from Super Duper Two weekday mornings and some of their ice cream in the afternoon. And do not miss the amazing poke at Ishihara Market. The only drawback of Waimea is the noisy roosters. Do yourself a favor and bring some earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
This historic building is a gem to stay in. Love that this family business is making the best use of this place. Enjoyed the Taro Room - lots of space, huge shower, all clean and comfortable King bed. Ceiling fan was a dream. Appreciated the vicinity to the beach, sports bar, restaurant and grocery store. Also appreciated the chill atmosphere at the inn. Great job, Patrick!
Its a great inexpensive place to stay. The beach cottage is roomy and clean and I felt so at home.

Amazing...I would eat this every single day if I could!
I'm always a bit cautious about roadside food stands, but seeing how the stand always has customers (I'm frequently in Waimea), we tried it. I ordered the beer-battered shrimp and in two return visits haven't been able to get past that wonderful dish. It's so good I haven't been able to force myself to try anything else. Friends and family are also devotees of this restaurant. Try it. You won't be disappointed. Seating consists of outdoor picnic tables under shade roofs with open sides. Very casual and a faucet on the side of the building to wash your hands when done. I'm sure they have a restroom, but I haven't needed it. employees were nice and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time.
Mehhh I wasn't impressed. Tried the sweet chili garlic shrimp with rice and the beer battered shrimp with fries. The sweet chili shrimp wasn't flavorful enough for my taste but the rice was pretty good. Also, the beer battered shrimp didn't taste like anything but the ginger tartar sauce that comes on the side was its saving grace. The fries weren't good at all. Blah. The portion sizes were good. We shared 2 dishes between 4 people.

Don't know where to start on what a nice surprise this place was after a long day exploring the island. We started with a fresh local microbrew in the bottle for me and a Pinot Grigio for her. The waiter offered to let us try the house Cab in a generous sampler and she opted for the white. The atmosphere was slightly upscale and would be right at home in West LA. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer that came piled high on 4 pieces of fresh French bread with a slice of Parmesan across the top. The tomatoes were ripe with a perfect amount of garlic and balsamic and At $7 this was a bargain. We then enjoyed a Mediterranean salad for $11 which had excellent local greens and just the right amount of everything. We ended up sharing a small pizza with goat cheese and onions and figs that was excellent. The crust was a little dry so I asked for a side of marinara to dip it in and the waiter delivered a comped and generous portion. If you like fresh salads and Italian food you won't be disappointed. The waiter was attentive and friendly. And the total bill was mainland priced reasonable considering the quality of this food. Sorry to drone on here but we were extremely satisfied with our choice and left with smiles.
Impressed. The pork belly crostini is amazing. I would have ordered another to go, if I wasn't already so full (very generous portions....) Caprese was also very delicious. The chili flakes in my puttanesca was a little heavy handed, but it was still full of flavor. Wife had the chicken breast sandwich, which she says was really good. The service was also very attentive and welcoming. The server had a good understanding of what was coming out of the kitchen and made some good recommendations. We'll definitely stop by again when we are back in town.
Best restaurant in town. The food was excellent. The staff was extremely accommodating and went the extra mile. I would eat here again. Their pizzas and wines are very good. Tuesday nights are half off wines.

I seem to find all the nice old aunties in Hawaii! I swear they are all my favorite places to eat :) This one's got a few, i think they use the restaurant during the day as a hang out pot like your old tree house in the back yard, and play bridge all day when they don't have a major event. They are open for Lunch and Dinner, and their menu is very basic local dinner menu. but thank got this is a traditional place because i ordered a hamburger steak and i got a REAL hamburger steak...not just two frozen burgers heated up and tossed with gravy, but borderline meat loaf patties with gravy over everything...I didn't know mac salad could float! Apparently their dinner specialty is saimin, the state in their menu that if supplies run out, they will close, or something to that nature. Guess I'll have to go back for a sample :)
Stopped here on the way to Kokee. Cute little local place, that I never knew was here before, so this is our 1st time trying it. In spite of waiting 1/2 hour for our food, since there was only 1 cook and 1 waitress (she apologized for the inconvenience) the food was actually very good and well priced. I had the Loco Moco and it was delicious! One friend had the veggie omelet, another had the Portuguese omelet and my 3rd friend had eggs and link sausage. They all agreed everything was delish. Will definitely be back to try the saimin they serve between 6:30-9:00pm.
@J's Waimea first time eating dinner and my first experience. Would you pay $6.75 for this not including fries that is $2.50 more. Really rude service waitress tell me after I say sorry Nt it's not your fault... She tells me look at the guys burger/sandwi

Typical plate lunches, BBQ bowls and a few Chinese food style entrees on offer. I went with the Combo Plate which came with beef, breaded fish and breaded shrimp. Beef was pretty good, but the fish and shrimp was heavily breaded. Beneath that, the portions were a little small. Mac salad was good and tons of rice. My wife had the BBQ chicken plate and thought it was good.
