This is more than just the best restaurant on the island; this is the best restaurant in the state - hands down. After living 32 years on the Mainland (Chicago area, Washington DC area, and East Coast) and 5 years in Hawaii, this is probably one of the best restaurant meals I have ever had. The hubby and I are total foodies and we tell everyone to go there if they're on Maui. They always report back to us that it is as wonderful as we remember. (We dined there at the end of 2007.) Take a cab, accept your server's recommendations, buy the best wine, and shoot the works. You're going to be in for one heck of an awesome experience. Our server and the bus boy were both male. I didn't catch either of their names, but both were superb. Attentive but not intrusive. We sat outside and had reservations in time for sunset. The drinks are fantastic. We weren't sure how much we'd like it, but once we had the appetizer (scallops - perfectly cooked with an amazing sauce and herbs accompanying them), we knew it was something special to savor. I think we were there close to 4 hours. We took our time with every course and after the appetizer, we wouldn't split ANYTHING with each other. LOL We each sampled each other's entree and dessert but everything was so creative and cooked to such utter perfection, we would have been shortchanging ourselves if we didn't try two of each thing. After dessert, I wanted some dessert wine to finish the night. I couldn't decide between two on the list, so our server brought me a complimentary sample of each to help me make up my mind. If you have a special occasion (anniversary, marriage proposal, etc.) or really want to impress someone, this is the place to go. I think the total for the two of us with drinks, one appetizer, two entrees, two desserts, plus apertifs and a full bottle of excellent wine was about $260 including tip. There are places on Oahu that will charge you more than that and not come close in terms of food or service. I hesitated to write a review here because, much as I love the place, I sometimes worry that the secret will get out and next time I go, I won't be able to get a reservation. When my husband and I visit Maui next, our only rule is that we MUST go to Capische. It is simply not to be missed.

Very good meal but Italian in any way? I think not. Super expensive with little view. The garden is lovely in this out of the way location set back near the highway. Service is goodand decor is average. Been there twice, wont be a third time.

The ambiance and the view is great. The bread in the beginning is good but nothing special. The capresce was super delicious. It's difficult to make something so simple unique but mission accomplished. Quality ingredients and fresh taste. The mushroom risotto was apparently delicious. The restaurant is famous for this dish. Unfortunately I hate mushrooms so no risotto for me. The lamb was a tad salty. The beef was well prepared and well liked. The fish catch was well prepared and delicious. For the amount of fish I wish the dish had contained more mashed potatoes (because I'm a peasant and like my potatoes). The sundried tomatoes contained something that tasted like vinegar (which I despise as much as mushrooms) so that might have clouded my view of the salad that accompanied the fish, which I didn't care for very much. The coffee was good. I hate weak coffee and this was definetely not weak. Dessert - the sorbet and ice cream is made on site and is absolutely delicious. But the best part is the chocolate plate. Seriously. It's too good.

Recommended by a friend who had eaten here when she was on her honeymoon my fella and I opted to give it a try. Capishe features herbs grown from their own garden, homemade pasta, beef they have aged on site and fresh fish they caught that day. Having said all this it was tough to choose just one dish. We started with the (Beef) carpaccio which was amazing. The thing I could tell right away about this place was it was about more than good food but a good fusion of flavors as well. It was the unique fusion that I enjoyed most. We also ordered the bruchetta. For dinner we both made the easy choice of fresh Mahi Mahi served over shipped potatoes. Again, it was delightful. Finally we ended with the Tahitian vanilla creme brule (with Grand Marnier soaked strawberries) for my fella and a chocolate sampler of chocolate cake, Nutella mousse, Banana ice cream & a chocolate covered strawberry. It was heaven on a platter. My only complaint's are this: - they are known for their extensive wine list and although our waiter said our choice was perfect it was too fruity the accompany the meal well. Neither of us finished out glasses. This however could have been changed had I said something. - The other was that I didn't order the Mushroom risotto I had heard so much about on here. I didn't remember seeing in on the menu and truthfully got sidetracked by all the other options once we were there. I was reminded by the valet attendant AFTER our meal when he said, "Did you try the risotto? I can't get enough of it!" Damn. Guess we'll have to go back!

Okay, so everyone knows that Hawaii is expensive. I knew Capische was a nice place. But still, when I sat down and looked at the menu, a little part of me died. Most of the entrees are $40+ (a few in the $30's and $50's). I gulped, reminded myself I was on vacation, and forged ahead with the ordering. First, the service was very attentive, if a bit pretentious. Our waiter was also a chef and was very knowledgeable and helpful. From his description, they use only the best and freshest local ingredients. The interior is nice, but quite dark. It looks like it has a lovely view during daylight hours. I split the shrimp carbonera with my husband, and it was good, if a bit rich. We also got a salad, which was made from the crispest lettuce I believe I've ever tasted. Quite fresh. Our group decided to split the much raved about tiramisu, and the creme brulee with strawberries. The tiramisu would have been fabulous on its own if it had not been completely overshadowed by the fantastic creme brulee. I left vowing to learn to make a creme brulee like that. If I get it only halfway as good I will be happy. And so I left with a smile on my face, with hardly a care in the world as I signed the credit card receipt. If I had it to do over again, I'd just go for dessert.

Wonderful food and staff. The garden was closed due to rain, but we still have a wonderful evening. Recommend coming for sunset. Also, mushroom risotto was incredible. Lamb shank was also delicious.

We had a large party at Capishe on our Maui trip in December. The reviews, magazine articles, etc., are well on point. I learned the two chefs are Culinary Institute America New York graduates with incredible kitchen pedigrees (French Laundry). The food was the best I've ever had on my Hawaii vacations, wine list extensive, and the atmosphere tucked away (dramatic elevated ocean views) from the beachfront cliche' and chaos. I toured the vegetable/herb farm on property and actually plan to stay at this property in June (Hotel Wailea) . If you enjoy fine Italian-inspired food, great wine, all served up in casual and comfortable environment this is for you, enjoy, it's Five Stars!!!

I know that this place already has like 17 reviews but this is the real way to spell the restaurant's name and I want to be the "first to review." Capishe? is as great as all the yelpers say it is. I stayed at the Diamond Resort, so if thats the case this place is a must. Its a great place to watch the sunset but be sure to MAKE RESERVATIONS AHEAD OF TIME! I was disappointed that they didn't keep open a few dinner reservations for guests that were staying here. So we had to start dinner at 8pm. The Seared Ahi Appetizer was amazing! For dinner I had the Herb Crusted Hawaiian Snapper and was very pleased. Overall, the ambiance and balanced dishes made for an excellent dining experience.

Had a lovely dinner...great ambiance...nice service...did the tasting menu...was excellent until the meat and fish courses...they were very average...the risotto and gnocchi were spectacular...had a nice bottle of Silver Oak Cab...definately a recommend but not the tasting menu

Fabulous experience. The place is beautiful, the vibe friendly, and the food superb. I had what had to be one of the best pork chops I have ever had in my life. Highly recommend - but get directions first - it is a bit off the beaten path.

I feel this is by far the best culinary experience on the island for a restaurant. There chef table at Il Teatro is of course the only dining experience to be it. The Chefs Brian and Chris are experienced and traveled. Every time we eat here it is beyond incredible. With the amazing views I recommend making reservations to watch the sunset while dining. If you are a "foodie" this it the only place on the Island and I have dined a few time over at every place on the island of Maui. Enjoy!!

After reading so many rave reviews I expected quite a lot and was, unfortunately, let down. My salad and drink were good but not amazing, which they should've been for their respective prices. The pumpkin gnocchi, which I was really looking forward to, was incredibly disappointing. Perhaps this is what's to be expected of Italian food on a tropical island not known for Italian cuisine but if that's the case then they should do diners a favor and lower their prices.

WOW!! AMAZING!!! FANTASTIC!! I can just keep going on and on with great words to describe the dining experience. From the view, to the sunset, to the waitor, to the food; Capische is wonderful!! My new husband and I went here as a recommendation from a friend who visits Maui a lot. We are so thankful to have listened. This was by far the best, romantic dinner we had during our honeymoon. We were advised by our friend to get reservations a half hour before sunset. At first I was skeptical because that put us at 5:30 (to early for me) and we were the first at the reasturant. But it was worth it! To watch the sun go down and the sky turn pink over the ocean was breath taking! Our waitor was the best we have ever had. You can tell he loved his job (and was good at it!). We started with some cocktails and the beef carpachio. Next was the caprese salad, the best mozerrella I have ever had. We opened a bottle of Mendocino Red Wine to breathe and then moved on to our entrees. I had the shrimp pasta (home made) and my husband had the ciopinno (amazing!). The place is pretty pricey, but totally worth it!! Everything was spectacular and the memory is forever. Capische goes in my book has my top 3 restaurants I have ever been to!!! Please open a Capische in San Fran!!!!

Great drinks and service from Rob. My husband and I just went for a sunset cocktail and ended up staying for a few hours, trying different drinks and ordering different appetizers - don't miss the gnocchi or the view of the sunset. To finish off our evening, we wanted a little cheese plate, and it wasn't on the menu, but the chef obliged and it was delicious. The only thing I can be picky about is the spelling of the restaurant's name - sorry, but it's just wrong - in any language.

Very good service. Nice ambience, we were seated outdoors in the garden. I had bolognese which was fantastic, and I normally don't get spaghetti. Others had veal with 3 flavor choices, lamb shank, and the chicken with no complaints. Watermelon sorbet was a great finisher.

  • George K.

Phenominal garden seatings. Very quiet and personal. The appetizers are its highlights. The truffle app is unreeaaall. Came back for that alone. The 4 stars is because of the creepy seating delays. I think they do it purposely to get people to drink at the bar, we watch the bartender sucker multiple people as they waited for a table into buying a 25 dollar wine glass. Also the entrees are way over priced to its quality. The apps tho and scenery are perfect

My husband and I had one of our most favorite meals in Maui here. The atmosphere was romantic and lovely. The service was friendly, and the meal was paced wonderfully! We started out with the mushroom risotto which was decadent, and a watermelon tomato gazpacho that was one of the most amazing things I have ever tasted. It was so light yet the combination of flavors was extraordinary! The cioppino was also really delicious. Ending with the creme brulee was out of this world! I definitely recommend this restaurant!!!

Where do I start? Been reading Yelp a long time and have so far found reviews on target and helpful...I take the negatives with a grain of salt and decided to ignore the couple of reports of bad service at Capische. Bad idea! At $30-$50 per entree you expect good service, even at a hotel location in Hawaii. OK, so for the most part Yelpers were on target with the food. I absolutely loved the bacon wrapped quail appetizer and my wife did as well. Mushroom Rissoto lived up to the hype according to her as well, but she says no way was the mozzarela in the caprese salad "flown in from Italy" as the worst server we have ever had anywhere in the world claimed. My entree was the veal marsala and it was the sweetest version of this dish ever...have had in NY, San Francisco, Venice, Rome and Tuscany...never this sweet. The server asked us just after the main course was brought "how is evertything tasting?" Upon realizing that we had not tried it yet she giggled and said she'd come back. That was the last we saw of her until the dessert menus were brought so I struggled through the awful $35 entree. There were other serving mis-steps that I won't bother with but suffice it to say this place spends no time at all training the staff. The capper of the whole thing was that upon making reservations they asked if we had any special requests or were celebrating anything. I told them we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and they assured us of a "special" evening. After reviewing the dessert menus and not finding anything appealing, miss clueles came back and asked what we would like. We said we were going to pass on dessert and she says"oh, that's too bad" as if tallying up what no dessert would do for her tip. She brings the check and says as she puts it down "oh, happy anniversary." Upon leaving the restauarant the hostes was standing at her station and never even acknowledged us. Happy indeed! We left a 15% tip but really should have sent a more meaningful message which I hope this YELP will provide to the management. Oddly enough I got a call from "Sean" the next day leaving a message saying he "hoped our evening went well." I called back and left a mesage for Sean and the call was returned by "Caroline." After listening to my story she said that the restaurant appologizes, but "we've never heard anything like this before." I asked her if she had heard of Yelp, she said yes, so I suggested they pay attention to the negative comments on service. She did say thnks for letting them know tht she would pass along my comments to management. Conversely, on another night we had dinner at a much more reaonable place, Pinapple Grill in Kapalua, and boy these folks could show Capische a thing or two about service. No fewer than 3 greetings on the way in, FABULOUS table service by Shelly, and two members of the management team stopped by to ask how everything was. When I get home I plan to write a great review of Pineapple Grill.

Went just for drinks and appetizers and we ended up staying and exploring the menu. Incredible fresh food. Profoundly friendly and informative wait staff and bartender. Sunsets to enjoy from the lanai. The hotel where it's located is now called Hotel Wailea (also great).

Great meal! Definitely go for the sunset - absolutely stunning! And if they have the organic beets on the menu as an appetizer, get it, it's amazing!! Beat restaurant in Maui so far.

Capische, now at The Hotel Wailea for dinner only, bar open for food and drinks in the afternoon and evening. I saw a lot of locals hanging out at the bar too. Great drinks - the mixologists use the ingredients from the orchard to make their handcrafted cocktails. The restaurant is a hidden gem, you assume its "just Italian". But what you didn't know is that it is fusion, contemporary Italian that uses local produce (like from their orchard), local fish and imported meats like beef and kurobata pork. Its personalized with the Maui flavors of fruits, veggies and carbohydrates found on the island. Did I mention its the #1 restaurant in 2011 in Maui right now and a couple of tables next to us were people from Spago's down the street eating on their day off? I almost didn't eat here because I had the same assumptions. " Italian? In Maui? Um no thanks, I live in L.A....", however after cashing in my complimentary appetizer card (yes another free thing at the hotel), I almost licked that pasta with spicy sausage clean off the plate! Then I walked over to the hostess and made a last minute dinner reservation.

I was on Maui for a relative's wedding. I went here with my father and my little sis. This is the best risotto I have had outside of Italy. Its a bit difficult to find but has a GREAT view. Clearly the chef is well trained and is a great seasoner. The wine list was expansive. I would suggest this restaurant to ANYONE going to Maui. Its beautiful and the food is super tasty. The best meal I have ever had in Hawaii!!!

  • Nick P.

They say you don't come to Maui for the dining, but Capishe may be the exception. Everything about our experience was wonderful. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. The food was well prepared and well presented. Our waiter provided a spot-on wine recommendation with each course; he really knew the menu well. Especially recommend the caramel tart for dessert. And the views! Every seat in the house (and there aren't many, which is nice) has a fantastic view for the sunset. But if you can manage it, try to get the secluded garden table; we felt like we were having a privately catered dinner. You'll pay five-star prices, but you'll get a five-star dinner.

  • Sue B.

Chad, the bartender recommended the ahi carpaccio and lamb appetizer which was fantastic. He also recommended a superb Pinot noir to compliment these appetizers. Anyone looking for a sunset view and outstanding fresh fish should not miss experience!

  • Spleen T.

Great view, great service. Food overall was very good though as mentioned by others so far, a little heavily salted. We had the risotto and the caprese split between the two of us for aps and the wife had the veal marsala and I had the pork chop. Both were very good. The creme brulee was fantastic with the marinated strawberries on the bottom and the mango sorbet was very mango-y (a good thing!). Overall, we'd go back.

  • Maggi S.

A huge disappointment! Ridiculously expensive even for Maui and the food is not the quality it should be. It has gone downhill in the kitchen. If you are going to spend $300 for dinner for two, there are better places on island to do it.! Gannon's has a better view and food.

  • Robert L.

For a restaurant recommended for Chef and Restaurant of the year, with a price level that is at the top of the Island, this was a major disappointment. Upon arrival we knew we should have left. The person at the desk asked us to wait until the person who takes you to the table returns. We waited as the person came back 3 times as the people before could not find a table they like. The desk person was glued to the desk and could not move, so we waited and got the "best table" which was rejected by the people ahead of us. In general the server was polite and friendly but not attentive or helpful on what to order. The food was average for an Italian restaurant. The risotto and the gnocchi was good but average quality nothing special. The 3 veals dish was Olive Garden quality. The veal was good but the sauces poor. Also the pasta was out of a box. NOT $42 quality. The tuna while a large piece was tasteless. Seared on the outside but with no real flavor added. After over $200 for 2 before tip we passed on desert. The FINAL STRAW WAS we got a call the next day to ask how was the restaurant (this was good). We told the person our issues. She said sorry and we will have our manager call you right away to she what they can do to make it better. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR OUR CALL! Never will return

2nd time we have been here. The service wasn't as prompt this time. The food however was just as good if not better. The chef even accommodated our entire table with Mong Chong (which was supposed to be the next days fish) when we didn't want the Ono. Always very impressed with the food here.

We dined here on.a Saturday night - they were very busy so we ended up sitting at a bar table in the lobby area. In hind sight, we (and they) should have suggested we come another time. The chairs were terribly uncomfortable, service was beyond slow and when we did get our food it was luke warm and the lighting was so bad we really couldn't see what we were eating. For what we got and where we sat, it was an incredibly expensive meal. Won't be going back.

Our dinner at Capische was one of our best in Maui and we went to many fantastic restaurants. The view from our table was gorgeous, the service was impeccable ( we had about 3 different waitstaff helping us), the live piano music set a lovely ambiance, and the drinks were fun and delicious. The good was equally wonderful....I highly recommend the truffle risotto! Capische also had some other nice touches. Thy asked if were were celebrating and had a nice "Happy Honeymoon" card on our table and also called the next day to see if we enjoyed our meal. These personal touches made them stand out....highly recommended!

Super service, go for sunset, stay for the food. The food in this intimate, out of the way restaurant in the Hotel Wailea is superb. Our favorites, beef capraccio, beet salad and mushroom and truffle risotto. Chocolate, caramel tart topped with sea salt also amazing. A don't miss in Wailea!

I believe this was the best meal I had while in Hawaii last week. We had reservations right at 6 o'clock but they sat us early so we could sit on the patio and watch the sun set. It was breathtaking. I got the Caesar salad which was nothing super special, but quite tasty. For dinner I opted for the veal two ways. I was under the impression I'd have a small piece of veal with the marsala sauce and a small piece of veal with the tomato sauce. No! I got two HUGE pieces of veal. But, Im not complaining because it was the best veal I've ever had. Too often when you get veal it is chewy and tastes like cardboard. This was like buttah. I even at the broccolini it came with because it was covered in marsala sauce! My fiance got the red snapper and he said it was the best fish he's had in years! For dessert the in laws got the creme brulee in a martini glass and we got the tiramisu. The creme brulee didn't taste like a regular creme brulee but it was absolutely fantastic nonetheless. The tiramisu was drenched in liquor and it was intoxicatingly good. We almost licked the plates. But we didn't ;) We're classy folks. Our server was EXTREMELY attentive but not annoying. He made sure our glasses were full and that we were comfortable. I can't wait to go back to Capische!

This restaurant was also referred to us during our Wailea trip. We had reservations for Christmas Eve and loved every bite and every moment! The location is hard to find and is in an older, kitchy kind of hotel. However, the views are amazing! We were sad to find we just missed the sunset, so definitely keep that in mind when making reservations. The outdoor, garden seating is very cozy and private. It sets the mood for a romantic evening. Our service was outstanding! We had three servers, each with their own role, all very knowledgeable, personal and gracious. This seemed to help set the pace for the night. Everything was spaced out perfectly and felt almost leisurely. To start, we received fresh garlic rolls. I'm not a fan of garlic, at all, but can see the appeal of fresh bread with giant chunks of garlic baked in. The olive oil and vinegar for dipping was a nice compliment. For our appetizer we shared the mushroom risotto. This was amazing and a great start for the rest of the meal. For our dinner, I ordered the pork chop, which was outstanding. I can't remember what my husband had, but he said it was delicious. The food tasted fresh and was flavorful without being just salt and garlic. We paired our dinner with a fantastic bottle of Ridge Ponzo Zin. Overall, this was an amazing evening, full of great service and delicious food. I highly recommend Capsiche for a romantic evening or special celebration.

Hands down the best meal I had in Maui! I don't care what part of the island you are staying on you HAVE to come here!! The pumpkin gnocci and the risotto are both AMAZING! I think we would have been fine with just those two...I don't know how we ate our entree when it came...but it was just that good. The atmosphere is gorgeous as well.

I chose this restaurant for dinner after having a small beach wedding. We didn't have enough guests for it to make sense to rent out a space for a reception, however I wanted to be able to have a nice sit down dinner with all the guests that were able to join us for our wedding, so I chose this place because of all the great review. The Hotel and restaurant is beautiful. I wasn't too impress with the hostess, as she didn't seem that bright, but it didn't matter to me since she wouldn't be serving me anyways. We had an intimate seating area away from everyone in the garden area. It was beautiful and quiet there. Our waiter was exceptional and did everything we asked. He was very good about refilling drinks quickly and was very friendly. The risotto he recommended was awesome and loved by all the guests. All our guests praised us for choosing this place, as the food has met their expectations. I had a wedding cake delivered there, and they brought it out after dinner for us to do the cake cutting ceremony then brought it back to the kitchen to cut & serve for all our guests. I couldnt ask for more on the service part. The only reason why I am giving this place 4 stars is because I was not too impress with my Seared Ahi dish. It was bland and overpriced for the small 4 pieces of Ahi that I got. Wish I would have chose something else, so I could agree with all 7 guests that the food was terrific, but I would return here again if I ever visit Maui.

Capische is a lovely setting and the food is always good. If you are going for dinner during a time of year when you can see the sunset, or the view will be visible later, ask to sit on the lanai. You won't be able to see the view from the garden seats. The menu doesn't change too much. I always get the risotto appetizer and the island catch. They never disappoint. Given that it's Maui, I wish they'd have more seafood entree options, but what they do, they do well. I go to Capische every visit to Maui, and look forward to it.

I started out giving it 4 stars because I thought the food was very good, though very expensive. However, as I think about it, I have to go 3 overall. We thought the service was lacking and confusing. So many servers were involved there wasn't really the opportunity to build rapport with any one We did have a primary server, or who we thought was the primary server, but he wasn't as responsive as he might have been. When cocktails were served (finally), there was a fly in the drink (scotch on rocks) of one of our party. He sent the drink back, only to be served yet another with either the same or different fly. The drink was sent back and another (flyless) one served. Now to me a second drink with a fly in it shows serious lack of quality control and at best would mean the drinks would be comped -- didn't happen. I thought the cocktails were small/chintzy, as were the wine pours. Speaking of wine, our server did not take our wine order prior to the entrees being served, so our wine wound up being served somewhat after the entree which again shows a lack of attention to detail or quality service. PS we shared a couple of desserts (described and brought by yet another of the many wait staff who served us). The salted caramel tart was okay, but the tiramisu was just not. And my cappuccino (a double) was weak. This was our second trip to Capische? Not sure I would be that excited to go back. I think we would prefer to go to Gannon's for the price. The service there was fabulous and the food really good as well. The view also great.

I admit I had high hopes for this place based on previous reviews. But to charge $54 for a filet mignon that was over-cooked and was way over-powered by the blue-cheese topping. I sent it back saying that for $54 every bite should knock my socks off and if you take away the blue cheese and lovely atmosphere this steak was at best, Black Angus quality. The steak I had at Ruth's Chris earlier this week for $34 ran circles around this place. The pumpkin gnocchi was okay and the asparagus was over-cooked. We ate at the bar and the bartender did a fine job serving us. The GM was very accommodating, took the steak off the bill and comped us a delicious pumpkin tiramisu desert. My friend order a fish dish that he said was dry and was also overpriced. I did order their "famous" risotto which was a tad al-dente and was super shalloty (I said it was too garlicy, but the GM told me there was no garlic in the dish) but was enjoyable nonetheless.

TOP NOTCH!!! I can be kind of a hater when critiquing anything and I am sure everyone has different experiences but this is one of the best evenings I have ever had. From the moment we stepped onto the grounds the experience kept getting better and better. The resort itself is very interesting with a definite Japanese influence. Beautiful grounds, great architecture, 15 foot waterfalls that empty into giant coy ponds with tons of enormous fish. The restaurant itself is even more stunning. You eat in the open air with amazing views of sunset or the night sky and the dining area is laid out with plants and shrubs to give you an intimate but communal experience. Service was great! Everyone from the hostess to your team of two waiters was very attentive and helpful but not hovering either. Some very nice selections that include local ingredients which is kind of a challenge given that they are running an Italian restaurant on a Hawaiian island. Other people have mentioned that some of their dishes were salty. The risottos I shared with the other people in my party were perfect. Definitely a little expensive but worth the money if you love food and are really into fine dining. I also suggest going early so you can enjoy the sunset and the night sky equally.

The service was excellent and staff very attentive. The food was B+. Cookbook and some over-salted. The prices reflect their idea of the class of restaurant they aspire to be. They don't quite make it. The atmosphere is great once you make it through the entry way that has the appearance of a has been time share on the verge of foreclosure. If you have cash to spend, you'll have an enjoyable evening but there is better food on Maui.

Went for an early fathers day dinner. Had great service and enjoyed our entrees. Prices were on the high side for what you got so it may be another 9 years before I return.

Food was fabulous. Garlic roasted right in the bread, the mozzarella was the freshest I've had, and my Fillet was phenomenal. The downside was the service. I have to say this restaurant would have received 30 stars if our service wasn't so horrible. The only positive side was that our bus boy was amazing. Very polite and responded to every need. After tipping him individually i asked the hostess if I could speak to the manager to give a kind word (i thought i would be polite about him rather than a jerk about our waitress) The hostess leaves for about 2 mins and returns to say "The manager is busy can i write him a note?!?!?!?! any how I might give this place one more try on my next trip but based on this visit I have to say it is a HUGE risk

Good place for a romantic dinner whth a great view. Too pricey to bring the kids next time, but for the two of us, OK to splurge. Very good service, Good food. They make thier own ice cream with real food ingredients (as opposed to the usual chemical mix) which so far in my lifetime, makes this place extremely unique. Only downside is high price and portions are small.

Wow, where to begin. First of all, this is definitely the most expensive restaurant on Maui but well worth it for a special occasion. We began the night with a warm and timely greeting at the front desk. We had a 9 pm dinner reservation for two and were seated right away. We started out with Kobe Style Beef Carpaccio. The beef was amazing and the tiny buttered croutons were a nice touch. I must say that with the Parmesan shavings, capers and dressing the dish was a tad salty for my taste. Especially since the beef was soooo great. We then had two Cesar salads which were also very good and not over dressed. For our entrees we had the meat and potatoes and the Cioppino. Both entrees were incredible and cooked perfectly. Sometimes I worry about Cioppino because the seafood can be overcooked but each piece from the lobster tail to large diver scallop was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We ordered a bottle of Banfi Chianti which was not bad. We also had two desserts, the buttermilk panna cotta and salted caramel tart and both were amazing and a perfect finish to a wonderful birthday celebration.

Best view and best food we experienced on our honeymoon. We went here twice for dinner and sat on the terrace at sunset. The tuna bruschetta appetizer was $15 and enough for me to just have it for dinner with a salad on our second visit. It was one of the best dishes I've ever had. The first night I ordered the ciopinno ($50) and it was great, but I like the tuna dish so much more. I was sorry we wasted the previous night at Spago after I went to Capische - it was that good. Be sure to get a good table on the terrace ( though i hear it's best to eat in the gardens if it's already after sunset).

This is a must when in Maui.. We read the reviews before we came and though it was so-so, I believe one has to appreciate fine dining to get the experience and if something isn't to your taste, it's best to speak up then and have it resolved there. No, I don't work for Capishe, but I get it... My husband and I went while in Maui, 12/25 AND 12/26 and LOVED both experiences (even though we got caught in the rain on the 25th). We were accommodated quickly with a new table.. Here is what this restaurant has going for it - view.. yes, it has view - but it has the food and the staff.. We asked for a couple of things off menu and w/out batting an eye our excellent server, Taylor, accommodated and was spot-on to our request.. We got the special app both nights, the first night I had the Foie Gras - the BEST we had ever.. And he had the bolognese dinner in app portion (still huge) and he loved it as well. That night for dinner we had the Cipino (sp?) and I had the lamb shank. AM-MA-ZING! We didn't have dessert any of the evenings, because the portions were quite good. The 2nd evening, he went the with Bolognese because it was so good the night before and I had a the fish special and if I can remember the type of fish I would have loved to share it, but the flavors were exceptional! The second night we decided to ask for another off menu item and again without a flinch Taylor (our server the next evening too) accommodated once again.. Don't miss this special restaurant.. And if you love a good cocktail, ask for the "C" Lounge (it's on the menu if you forget). We loved everyone at Capishe? and had the chance to speak to the chef at the end of the evening while getting an after dinner drink, who knew our entire order.. I guess not everyone orders the Foie Gras, but should! If you go and it's on the menu or a special - ORDER IT. It's well worth the price! I can go on and on about Capishe?, but think you should experience it yourself.. Just go, have a good time and you will not be disappointed ( a little rain doesn't hurt anybody) :)

The evening started off well, but the service did not live up to expectations at the end. The food was excellent at every point from the salads to the creme brûlée. The wait staff seemed to forget to clear the plates, and bring out our luke warm coffee one at a time. We will probably skip this experience next time we are in Maui and try again the year after. Too bad...

Excellent appetizers...the quail saltimboca was fantastic and so was the mushroom risotto. Service good and attentive. Sourdough bread four stars. Coconut "sorbet" (was more like a gelato) was smooth, rich, creamy, and incredible. View from the lanai was romantic. Will go back.

Beautiful view, very attentive service all around. The food was extremely fresh - the sweet onions stand out on the caprese salad, the inhouse made pancetta in the shrimp carbonara was the best part of the dish and the warm center of the caramel salt tart was to die for! Pricey but great for a special occasion.

Great Italian place! The mushroom truffle risotto was very good except it wasn't AL DENTE, it was overcooked, but the flavors were excellent. The braised lamb shank was perfectly cooked and loved the combination of earthy and citrus flavors, a must try!

Delicious food, enthusiastic server, and a gorgeous location. Everything we ate was phenomenal-- the portions were small, but that is usually to be expected with fine dining. I started with the beet salad and my husband with the carpaccio-- high marks for both. I loved the little beet ravioli in the salad. I had the uku fish special, which after trying I think my husband would have ordered as well! He ordered the pasta bolognese, which was pretty authentic though nothing really exceptional. Dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal. At the waiter's suggestion we split the salted caramel chocolate tart. It was one of the best desserts I have ever had. It was small, but so rich that even between the two of us we couldn't finish it. My only real complaint about the place was the clientele, which I know the restaurant can't really control. There were just a lot of really odd people around us-- some were really rude to the waitstaff, had serious staring problems, or were into some really intense PDA... again, I know Capische? can't really control that but it did make our dining experience slightly less enjoyable.

We almost passed on this one given all of the whining about al dente risotto and small portions. Glad we didn't. Absolutely wonderful setting. Got to watch a pod of whales frolicking framed between two palms. The food was extremely well prepared. I had the pork chop, Diane had the bolognese. More food then we realistically needed. Great flavors. The wine list is compact but has some excellent choices. We had a 2007 Antinori chianti classico that was very nice. Minor sticker shock with bill, but it wasn't out of the ballpark given the quality of the food and wine.

When my husband and I first walked into this place, we instantly became doubtful about our dinner choice. The restaurant is housed in a plain looking and rather dated building - nothing very special and we expected our dining experience would be the same. We were wrong! Everything about our evening was terrific. The food rivaled any meal we've had at favorite restaurants in New York or Chicago. The staff was friendly but professional, attentive but unobtrusive. And the sunset view was spectacular. Later in the meal, the manager stopped by our table to check on us - even that was perfect, as she stayed long enough to make us feel that our patronage was important to her but not too long as to interrupt our evening. We had the quail and gnocchi as appetizers - both were outstanding. My husband's entrée was wonderful - succulent uku and potatoes. I had their speciality: cioppino. It was among the best I've ever had. Don't miss the salted caramel tart for dessert - heavenly. We will definitely return to Capishe? on our next visit to Maui. It was a perfect date night dinner.

You'll NOT be disappointed. If by some reason you are well then you might need some lessons in fine dining. One of the best things about Maui. The prices and portions are appropriate and if you're on a budget then plan one evening to spend around $250 and enjoy the ocean view (sunset if your schedule permits) above the hustle and bustle of the larger hotels. The perfect blending of fresh grown (on the property) vegetables and spices are such a pleasure. I could speak on this for hours. Just go.....

Enjoy!!

Went just for drinks and appetizers and we ended up staying and exploring the menu. Incredible fresh food. Profoundly friendly and informative wait staff and bartender. Sunsets to enjoy from the lanai. The hotel where it's located is now called Hotel Wailea (also great).

WOW!! AMAZING!!!

A huge disappointment! Ridiculously expensive even for Maui and the food is not the quality it should be. It has gone downhill in the kitchen. If you are going to spend $300 for dinner for two, there are better places on island to do it.! Gannon's has a better view and food.

Big disappointment !! Service way below any restaurant in waelia . To bad . The view is incredible and the food was good.

Chad, the bartender recommended the ahi carpaccio and lamb appetizer which was fantastic. He also recommended a superb Pinot noir to compliment these appetizers. Anyone looking for a sunset view and outstanding fresh fish should not miss experience!

We went to Capische on our 5 year wedding anniversary and called a few days in advance to let them know that my wife is gluten free and vegan. We were told it would be no problem at all. We went in with low expectations because we thought it would be just a few local vegetables on a plate and they would call it a day but we were pleasantly surprised. They had an amazing salad to start and sweet potato gnocchi which was out of this world and finally the most amazing gluten free vegan plate with chickpea polenta and different market vegetables with aged balsamic with a great spicy flavor that was balanced with the sweet and tangy of the balsamic. I ordered hanger steak which potato gnocchi and it was decent but the sweet potato gnocchi took the cake!

Had a lovely dinner at Capishe tonight. The food was great and the service was also excellent. The first thing they did when we sat down was to see what color our pants were and offer us a black napkin instead of a white napkin so we would not get white fuzz on our pants. I always love any restaurant that pays that much attention to detail. For dinner I had the "Grilled Caesar" - original Caesar style which means that it was made from a balsamic vinaigrette instead of the type made with anchovies. They made their own garlic croutons and they were a nice compliment to the salad. ($16) I had the "Roasted Shelton Farms Chicken" as my entree. It came with a lovely pesto sauce and root vegetables. Generally chicken on any menu plays second fiddle to everything else on a menu but I have to say that this chicken as was amazingly tender, the pesto was not ridiculously oily like most pesto sauces, the herbs they used were not overwhelming and complimented the chicken perfectly and the root vegetables were tender and delicious. ($35) For dessert I had the "Creme Brulee Trio." It came with three small creme brulees in the following flavors: Traditional vanilla bean, chocolate and espresso. The traditional and the espresso were my favorites. I would highly recommend this dessert if you really love creme brulee. Overall the service was excellent, the cocktails were perfectly balanced, the food was worth the price and the view was outstanding. I will be back.

Such an amazing meal at Capische for our last night in Maui. We wanted to go somewhere with a great view and weren't completely sure we wanted to go somewhere picky, but we were so glad that we were swayed by all of the positive reviews! This place is worth every penny. We split the grilled Caesar, and then ordered three different half portions of pasta. The carbonara and mushroom risotto were amazing, while the bolognese was good but not great. Service, scenery and setting was A++! Got there in time to see the sun setting over the ocean, but then had a table in the garden area. Will definitely be back the next time I am on Maui!

PERFECT ROMANTIC DINING. That sums up Capische in three words although a fair warning that you'll find yourself gushing over the dishes as if discovering food for the first time. Come to think of it, I can actually reduce Capische to three letters: OMG. The ambiance is STUNNING. It is as if you are seated at a table in Villefranche on the French Riviera, but with a stunning tropical ocean view overlooking a beautiful terraced garden and charming, gorgeous wait staff (girls: read "eye candy"). The wine list, menu selection, lighting, ambiance, service...they were firing on all cylinders the night we dined here. I posted photos as the dishes are that perfect balance of "I'm too pretty to eat" and "Eat me, I'm delicious!" Yea, we admired how pretty they were and then we attacked with shark-like frenzy. Well, ok...we minded our manners (but I think the couple next to us were hoping we did not notice them licking their plates). I LOVE that they bring out the local sea salt and a fine black pepper in little lidded jars. We seasoned our olive oil, and noshed on house made Focaccia to start. A gorgeous white burgundy by the glass...much appreciated. Then the carpaccio. OMG. And caesar. OMG. And then the ahi. OMFG. Did I mention the ahi is very, very, very good? TIP: This restaurant is romantic. Men: If you bring a woman here and propose, she'll say yes. Yes, it's that good. However, it's up to you to make sure she doesn't change her mind after the meal ;) Dining here prompted me to look at the hotel website to plan a future visit, and let me say that I was THRILLED when I saw the room rates. We're at the Grand Wailea but this boutique hotel on the hillside is exquisite. A one bedroom suite here is the same price as a closet at the GW. Plus, the pool area cabanas here are so charming, and all of the intimate settings just make this hotel and restaurant a NO BRAINER for a romantic visit.

We had breakfast here about four times during our visit to Maui while staying at Hotel Wailea. The waffles are amazing and probably my favorite thing that I had there. The healthy start breakfast is also really good and they are really generous with the granola, yogurt, and fruit. My husband and I shared it one morning before yoga, and it was perfect. The coffee is also excellent! We tried it for dinner one night. We had the quail and caprese as an appetizer. Both were absolutely delicious. The quail was enough for me, but I had already ordered the lamb for dinner. It may have been that I was full, but I didn't like the lamb as much. My husband ordered the sweet potato gnocchi -- that was delicious and a great vegetarian option! We had reserved a table on the balcony at 6pm to watch the sunset. It was so gorgeous!! It was a romantic evening and the service was awesome

I wanted Italian on our last night in Maui & stumbled upon this place searching yelp. I decided to try it since it was close to the condo & seemed to have great views for sunset. Let me tell you, we were not disappointed. The lanai has a perfect view of the sunset but bring your sunglasses for the beginning of it. The customer service was perfect with even the young man assisting the waitress being on the top of his game. We never had an empty water glass, or dirty plates sitting for too long in front of us. The staff were all helpful without being overbearing. Drinks were good & food was great. I will be back if I am lucky enough to find myself in Wailea again. The boutique hotel this is located in seemed very nice also.

The service. The fresh, local ingredients. The variety of the menu offerings. My husband and I sat and watched the beautiful sunset on their terrace while enjoying service from the most pleasant, polite and intelligent server. Candace was full of knowledge. We both feel like we not only left with a belly full of delicious food, but tons of new knowledge about local vegetables of which we had never heard. She is an expert in her craft and we appreciated her level of professionalism and just her warm personality in general. Good people. 5 stars for Candace. Now, for the food. The Chicory salad had a unique flavor with the grilled endive. I enjoyed that for a starter. Also the crudo board came with just the right amount of fresh, raw local fish. The Ahi entree was absolutely perfect. Melt in your mouth delicious!

I took my girlfriend here, first time for both of us. I have to say, I have a big problem now. I don't think I will be able to eat at another restaurant! This place was absolutely amazing! We walked in and were greeted beautifully. The atmosphere was serene and romantic. The service was impeccable. The servers were extremely attentive. And the chef...he gave us such a beautiful experience. The food was poetic, and the attention to detail..wow! An art form. I cannot give Capiche enough stars!!!! I will never forget this place! Absolutely gorgeous start to finish!!!!

Tonight I tried this place based on a recommendation from a friend and the overwhelmingly positive yelp reviews. The people I was with told me they've had better experiences. I started out with a Mezcal Mule and it was rather delicious. It was light and refreshing. I order the mahi mahi and it was pretty dry. I didn't send it back, but it seemed to lack something, but I'm not sure what. I'll try this place again, but it was meh!

Excellent service and wait staff. Delicious food and ambiance. Very expensive though and their corkage fee is very high at $35 so prepare yourself for that if you plan on bringing your own wine. No views of the ocean at this spot but great tables with a lot of privacy situated among their outdoor garden seating (you have to request to be seated there).

We had been to Capische about 3 years ago and did not enjoy it. However, we read the Open Table and Yelp reviews and decided to give it another try. BIG MISTAKE!! It started with us arriving at 7:48 for an 8pm reservation. We were told we would have to wait and they would seat us closer to our 8pm reservation time. We were seated about 10 minutes later and were surprised to see several empty tables when we sat down - why did we have to wait?!?!?! Next, we waited at least 10 minutes before someone came to the table. The waiter asked us if we would like water - yes - just ice water please. Waited another 7 minutes and, finally, the hostess came by and filled our glasses. Waiter finally comes about 10 minutes later for our drink order. I order a glass of wine and my husband orders a glass of Hibiki Japanese whiskey. Waiter comes back 5 minutes later and apologizes that they are out of Hibiki. OK, my husband orders Bulleit Rye. Another 5 minutes goes by and he comes back again! They are out of Bulleit Rye also! Seriously?!?! My husband, now pissed, just drinks his water. We order our meals. Beet salad and Truffle Risotto for me and a salumi & cheese plate and the fish for my husband. Oh, the waiter also tells us that the chef is sending out a little something since they were out of the 2 liquors my husband wanted. We each received a slice of ahi sashimi. WOOT!! Beet salad was OK. The salumi & cheese plate was mostly crackers and the tiniest portion of prosciutto ever. 15 minutes later entree comes. My 'truffle' risotto was a lot of things none of them being truffle - it contained rice & corn and had absolutely no truffle flavor or aroma. My husband's fish was OK but it was a small serving with a few pieces of veggie. We left without having dessert - we couldn't stand it any longer. Without question, the worst service I have ever experienced ANYWHERE. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else - McDonald's would be a step up.

Amazing atmosphere and food. Waitress was helpful and knew the menu well. Robust drink list and the bartender didn't give us a hard time when we wanted to transfer our drink check to our table (we made sure to tip him well). Restaurant is located a little out of the way from the rest of the shopping area of Wailea - which is nice. Our table was private and surrounded by plants and low level lighting - outdoors. My only regret is that we didn't get here before sunset - it would have been amazing I suspect.

AMAZING dinner with an incredible view and vibe. We are staying at Hotel Wailea and thought we should try out the in-house restaurant and it was just fabulous all around. Our server was so sweet and very knowledgeable, she made sure we didn't order too much or too little and because we wanted to sample several of the fresh organic locally sourced items on the menu, they split even the half orders of items into two separate (BEAUTIFULLY) plated items for us so we ended up having a 5 course meal with just the right amount so that we could sample everything we wanted to! The corn risotto is a must. We also had the desert special which was three doughnuts in a pineapple sauce that was delicious! It was a little pricey if you're just looking for a casual meal but we were expecting that and we're celebrating so we were prepared to spend about $250-300 on dinner. It came out to $200 including a $55 bottle of wine and tip! Not bad! We made our reservation for 30 minutes before sunset and it was like having dinner and a show. We definitely recommend it!

Our 40 person party apparently reserved the entire lower balcony, with a gorgeous view of the sunset just before dinner. We had a prix fixe menu with what we thought were a surf or turf option - it turned out to be a surf and turf duo. The truffle risotto was amazingly creamy. The caprese salad with local Haiku tomatoes and imported buffalo mozzarella was beautiful. We apparently got a beef tenderloin and herb crusted mahi mahi - the beef was a little overcooked for my taste, but the mahi was great. We finished with the creme brulee, which was served with a fruit compote at the bottom of the custard, just a little different but very tasty. I don't know if I would choose to come here for the food, but you really can't beat the view.

Ok truth is I have resisted going to this place although I am not sure why because it is good. Really good. In fact the only reason I would not give this place 5 stars is due to the wine list. It is good but their website list is not at all similar to the actual list. Truly a 5 star place would have an updated website in every aspect. the reservations EASY on open table Arrived 20 min early and was seated immediately at a table in perfect view of the sunset. In fact this is the best resturaunt in the Wailea area for sunsets! Ordered the fresh fish crudo - which was good wished they had given hashi to eat it with instead the fork was clumsy for such a delicate delight Salad shared the Local Black Kale with figs wonderfully perfect Main course was the Truffle Risotto and the Veal Chop marsala both were great but the Veal was AMAZING! This is the best veal chop I have ever experienced. the wines were the Domaine de Fontsainte, Corbieres '11Rose by the glass - EXCELLENT and a bottle of 2011 Clos Du Vol Cabernet Desert - They provided us for free due to the birthday partner accompanying me... It was true marvelous adventure in Carmel and Chocolate Tort with sea salt. Overall the service was solid the food excellent I will return! And worth every bit of the $300 it cost.

Service - very Relais and Chateaux Ambiance - depending on your mood you can go for the more intimate feel downstairs or a full view of the Sunset by the Bar with Pupus. Love the fact they grow a lot of their herbs and vegetables.

Tucked up away from the strip of beach resorts is the Hotel Wailea with it's understated beautiful restaurant Capische. We came for Happy Hour and it was nice and quiet with a lovely view of the sunset. Dinner is pricey but at happy hour drinks are $5 off and the appetizers are $10. Some items like the lamb and mushroom pasta (yum) were a better value that others like the carpaccio but all in all everything was pretty tasty. The drinks are of the whole mixology movement and had lots of whimsy and fresh ingredients which was nice. The service was outstanding, everyone was so friendly and parking is complementary. What a nice surprise, this place is a little gem!

"Not how I remembered it...." We went back together after six years to relive the magic we experienced and had kept vividly in our minds for that opportunity to arrive again. It took a few years longer than either of us preferred (though I did go once again two years ago with some gfs...) I suppose it's like every passing relationship -- there's a reason it passed. Perhaps it was early on in our journey for palatial excitement and our taste buds have since been met with so many revelations that our memories betrayed us such that we romanticized the entire experience....then again, maybe not. The service was not nearly the same as the two previous times I had been, but to that I absolutely attribute to the individual server. Perhaps partial responsibility goes to management for not ensuring consistent quality service, or perhaps they've changed their style of service since - that's all internal, so from an external perspective, not liking the difference. We were an early turn, so perhaps she wanted to push us through for her second turn (though both times the reservation was roughly around the summertime sunset, made purposely for obvious reasons), or at least that's what it felt like. Did not feel like fine dining service, but more like resort service - decent, respectful, proper but lacking the timing. I hate to come of sounding bougie, but I'm comparing this to my previous experiences and normally service is an afterthought to me, UNLESS something is noteworthy, positively or negatively... The server assistants were very attentive and thorough, almost wanted to take some of the tip away to side tip them. She just didn't seem personable or at all genuine. Ah, moving on. The quail saltimbocca app was prepared differently from how I recalled. Flavor profile changed, dish was wetter - again, not so good. Had a beet salad with some goat cheese wonton thing --- memory is shoddy at this point as I dined nearly a year ago, sorry... it had good flavor, wish there was more of it. To sum this up rather tersely for the sake of finding an ending to this review, I really didn't like his osso bucco. My fish was under-seasoned but good in comparison to his entrée. We skipped dessert because we wanted to help our server get us out of there so she could get a next turn. Sunset was the most memorable experience.

Romatic!!! And beyond delicious!!! Not to mention the service is PERFECT!! They have this really wonderful motto, "if it is not on the menu, go ahead and ask us. Our chefs love a challenge." I highly recommend: Kona Maine Lobster Salad Lamb & Mushroom Ragu Roasted Hawaiian Catch

Awesome ambience, amazing food, impeccable service. Sat in the garden for our anniversary, enjoyed everything about our meals (ahi crudo, beef carpaccio, grilled caesar, meat and potatoes (Tuscan) and lamb shank.) Our server, Benny(ie) was one of the best we've had in a while. Recommend!

Excellent food, service, and view. What a beautiful romantic place tucked up on the hill with a spectacular view! We ordered the carpaccio and caprese for apps which were both so delicious! Then risotto and Bolognese the risotto melts in your mouth it was amazing! I had the cippino which of course ate it all and some of my husbands Oso buco because everything just was mouth watering! I normally would never try Oso buco (lamb) because "Mary had a little lamb":/ but it was to good it just fell off the bone and danced in my mouth! Can't wait to go back there!!! Yum Town!!

Terrible service and food is "meh" at best. I found the service to be rude. It was the first time that I've ever had someone refer to me as "aunty." It was quite shocking. They are there to do their job and really don't care about the people. If you like mediocre, this is a great spot. I found it simply okay and had high expectations based on all the reviews. There are better spots in Maui that serve excellent food and treat their customers well. Skip the breakfast and go to other hotels in the area who understand what a vacation breakfast should be. They also don't have non-dairy milk so luckily we had a nespresso in our room and bought our own almond milk. Very disappointing.

Since this was Christmas, I was hoping for a special meal with my family and it was very disappointing. The evening started out so promising with two wonderful appetizers. The beef carpaccio was nice and the salumi and cheese platter was excellent! One of the main cheese selection was manchego which is one of my favorite. And the cured meats were lovely. Then came the entrees. My mother's lamb shank and risotto was delicious, had great flavor and the lamb fell off the bone. My sister's bolognese was just ok, nothing special. However, my lamb and mushroom ragu was inedible ... twice. The first time it was so salty and I had to take a huge gulp of water. The second time around it was a little less salty, but still inedible. At that point, everyone was done with dinner and I was no longer hungry. I didn't want that again for the third time. It left the table untouched. It's sad when you pay about $40 for an entree that you don't even eat and you leave the table feeling not so Christmasy.

Since we dined here twice and I combined my reviews, I ran out of space. My husband reminded me of the following that would not fit in my prior review: The ceiling fans are "furry" and look as if they have not been cleaned in months, if not years. Between the cleanliness and the service (or lack thereof), dine at your own risk.

We started with the Salumi and cheese plate. It was amazing. Then we had the mushroom truffle risotto. You may have seen pictures of it on bomb.com . We also had the carbonara pasta with egg. It was the best dish of the night. We ended our meal with cioppino, which featured huge chunks of lobster. I wish it was a little spicier, but the seafood was delicious. Chef Brian Etheridge is a culinary genius. I ate so much I almost threw up. We went home and immediately passed out from food coma. For real.

So my husband and I read that this is the most romantic restaurant on the island. It's a nice location, but the view isn't anything special. The food was AMAZING!! I'm not a big Italian eater, but wow, I was blown away. We did the 3course meal. The beef carpaccio, caprese salad, mushroom risotto, ahi tuna, and the catch of the day were all delicious. It was all prepared just right. My biggest downfall was the service. Our waiter was very kind. He told us he would bring some bread... We had to wait 30mins and ask for bread. I asked for like three time for pelligrino, I still have yet to recurve it. Dinner took look long. We were there for nearly three hours. They weren't busy so I didn't understand what took so long. I'd come back for the food, just not the service. Maybe take out?

The name is actually "Capische?" (with a question mark), which alone is a sin; however, based on all of the positive reviews, we went out of our way to try the restaurant tonight. Bad choice. I now know the reason for the question mark in the title, ie, the question that "Capische?" is impliedly asking is: "is it cool if we give you stomach cramps and expose you to cockroaches . . . capische?" On our approach to the restaurant's maitre d' desk, a large (2 inch) cockroach ran in front of us...we should have turned around at this sign. When reserving, I had chosen the "garden" table versus the "lanai" because of all of the "romantic" comments on their website and on Yelp. However, when we were seated in the "garden" it was clearly just a table sat on a cement slab surrounded by some shrubbery and the smell of roach motels; this, plus the memory of the roach "greeter" made me ask to be re-seated on the lanai. I told the hostess that I was asking to move because of the cockroach I saw and that I felt uncomfortable, and she had the nerve to say "well, that is natural for Maui." We had also heard about the cocktails at Capische? (I feel stupid even writing a restaurant name with a question mark), so we ordered two drinks: both of which were a mess. The Vesper tasted like it was "second drink," ie, like someone had a cocktail and drank it all and then the leftover ice melted and the liquid volume filled and they re-served it. The other cocktail was too sugary sweet. We ordered the three course menu. The two stand outs of the evening were the carbonara and the risotto. I had no complaints about these dishes. However, the main dishes were definitely not fit for service. We ordered the cioppino and the chicken, both of which were so over-cooked that it is remarkable that they were served. I wouldn't be surprised if they were pre-cooking these dishes and warming them to order--that is how over-cooked they were At the end of dinner I got a second visit by the cockroach, this time he was flying around our head and landed on an electric light. I had never seen a cockroach this big, and did not even think it was a cockroach because it was so big, and therefore I asked the waiter "what kind of bug is that?" (I thought it may be a special Hawaiin flying insect). He looked and sheepishly said, "oh, that's a cockroach." So, the answer to Capische? is "No, it's not!"

Wonderful setting, very nice views! Food and service were okay, but not over-the-top memorable. Many employees that night seemed much more interested talking to each other, instead of customers....But the setting and environment were very fun and unique.

After several more visits since my last review, Capische? is back to five stars in my book. On this last visit I again had my favorite starter, the quail saltimbocca. (Description is in my last review). We also shared a bolognese dish, then I had a great piece of perfectly grilled local fish. Great wine, good service, nice view, very relaxing and classy.

We stayed at the Hotel Wailea for a week and this restaurant made our stay even more pleasant. Fabulous ambiance, great tentative staff. The food was fabulous, though portions seemed a little skimpy at the dinner service. The preparation of the food was perfect. We had various meals that we absolutely enjoyed. Breakfast in the restaurant was delightful. I was excited to discover the bacon was actually pork belly and pancetta! Absolutely Amazing!!!! The views from our table were amazing too. The complimentary breakfast was a delight for the days we were on the move and not wanting a full sit down breakfast. The banana nut muffins were great.. Though they should work on adding a juice service and maybe some yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit. For a 5 star it seemed a little lacking here. We ordered room service as well.. Awesome pizza & BLT for a quick lunch in between shopping and massages. No complaints here. Service was prompt. The food was good in flavor and portion sizes. We had dinner in the newly evening lit garden area which was excellent. I found one of my favorite plants in the garden too which warmed my heart.. (A rare succulent/ carnivorous plant- called the pitcher plant). It was as if we had a private garden room. Our party of 5 had a fabulous time with great service. Everyone in our party enjoyed the various appetizers, as well as their main course entrees. The food presentations were beautiful. Though portions for the dinner entrees were pretty slim.. Had we not ordered various appetizers .. I think most of our party would have needed a second helping. The desserts were both delicious and pretty too! Overall... Great food with great service though the price point for the portions seem a little off. Regardless, I would return and hope they either increase the portion sizes or adjust their pricing to reflect the food quantity not just the food quality.

We stayed at Hotel Wailea for a few days during our honeymoon and of course had to check out this restaurant. All we can say is that we loved it! One - the atmosphere was amazing. We sat in the garden area downstairs and it was very romantic and intimate since the tables are very well spaced out. There was piano music playing upstairs for part of our dinner and it really added a nice touch to the already romantic ambiance. Two- the service was on point the whole night. Our waiter was attentive and checked in often but wasn't pushy. He made great recommendations when we asked. It is clear that they really focus on service here and everyone that came by our table was super polite. Three - the food! Well, it was amazing. We ordered the salumi and cheese board and beef carpaccio to start. The cheese board was great! Everything went together perfectly and we finished the entire thing. The carpaccio was also delicious. For entrees, I ordered the cioppino and my husband split his dish between the truffle risotto and the pumpkin gnocchi. Both of our entrees were just right. No complaints here whatsoever. Our dessert, however, was just meh. We got some cookie thing with ice cream inside. It was meant to be eaten with a spoon but we could really only reach the ice cream that was sandwiched between the cookies. So we didn't eat the cookies because they seems super hard and should really have been soft and easier to eat. We got the whole trying to add different textures thing but it didn't really work. It didn't ruin our meal at all but it seems to happen in a lot of restaurants when everything else is executed perfectly. Four - this place deserves 5 stars all around. The fact that we didn't have to travel far to eat here was a bonus :)

We arrived at Capishe? on a rain pouring buckets night. I guess the draw for this place is to sit out in the garden? But because of the rain we sat on the balcony with a very capable roof. Our waiter was great, he was in no rush to get us out of there before any perceived rush and let us linger after dinner and talk a bit. for a starter i had: Parmesan truffle risotto. it was fantastic and i finished every last bite! For dinner i had the : herb crusted opakapaka It was also fantastic, i don't think i've ever had a bad fish dish in maui. Just wonderful. aside from the weather, which noone could do anything about, we had a great time at Capishe? and would like to go back for a sunset view not blocked by rain :)

Dined with kids and was very disappointed. Spectacular view but ridiculously small portions and way over priced even compared to our Beverly Hills eateries. Did not appreciate the waitresses attitude either, over the top. Better to head to Sorrento's on the beach or Nick's fish market!!

We just made a return visit to Capische during our vacation to Maui last week. It was at the top of our list and did not disappoint. If you have ONE nice restaurant to go to during your visit to Maui, CAPISCHE IS IT! (Spago is our #2 fav). Seriously, on all fronts - service, food, view, everything....5 stars. Capische doesn't get the hype and publicity the other high-end restaurants in the area gets, which might make it that much more of a jewel. Its pricey, especially if you get a bottle of wine, but oh so worth it. Skimp on other food outings if you need to, as this is one visit where you will not be disappointed! We were reminded how they have their own herb garden that they use for their dishes. They also use fresh, local and sustainable ingredients as often as possible. We started with the caprese salad, which was amazing. I don't know how the tomatoes they used were so fresh and tasty at this time of year, but they were SO GOOD. The salad also has maui onions in it which is a nice touch. Excellent on all fronts. We moved on to the Ahi Bruschetta, which was also fantastic! Really tasty. I would've loved to be able to try the Pumpkin Gnocchi and the Mushroom Risotto...both sounded really good, and I overheard a server mention to another table both were his favorites. Too bad we couldn't try EVERYTHING! (For reference, since I couldn't find prices before our return visit... appetizers and salads were about $15. each) Entrees: My husband had the Capische Cioppino which included kona-maine lobster tail, shrimp, scallops, clams, local fish, saffron tomato broth, & capellini ($52) YOU HAVE TO GET THIS. This was one of the tastiest entrees I have ever had in my life. I had some serious entree jealousy because it was SO DARN AWESOME, even though my entree was really, really good!!! I had a special which was Hawaiian Snapper encrusted with pesto (from their herb garden), served with hericots verts ($42...range of most of the other entrees). Mine was fabulous, but seriously, I don't think I've ever tasted anything as incredible as that Cioppino in my entire life. We might just need to plan a return trip to Maui sooner than later JUST for that dish. We capped the night off with their signature Tiramisu ($12). Awesome. Like I said, if you have only ONE nice place to go to while on Maui...this is it. Food, Service and View cannot be beat. Make it happen and don't let anything get in your way. And get the Capische Cioppino. You won't be disappointed. Be sure to make reservations....there aren't too many tables at this find. The bonus is that they're on OpenTable.com ! The next day, someone from Capische CALLED me to ask how our dining experience was! That has NEVER happened and was a really nice touch to show they care! Go!

As long as you order at least the pumpkin gnocchi and risotto you'll be happy. They are the best on the menu. Make sure you are prepared for the prices though. They are not shy about charging.

While the service was great, we felt the server had not been exactly forthcoming with us. I ordered the caprese salad which was excellent. For my entree, I ordered the mushroom and truffle risotto. The waiter asked if I would like the entree size and I said yes, unaware that this was going to increase the cost two fold. The risotto was so salty that it was nearly uneatable! While the restaurant is very beautiful, I do not believe that I would return!

The food was hit or miss. Here they lost half a star. As a table we had: The caprese salad: 4/5 stars. I would have preferred the tomatoes to be fresher, but I was very content with what I had. The dressing they put over it was tasty, just the right amount of salty vs the sweet of the tomatoes. Instead of an entrée, I had two appetizers. The risotto: 5/5 (I'd give it a 6 if I wasn't so strict with my own scale). By far the BEST food on the menu. Creamy and salty (in a good way) and very filling, not to mention a generous portion. If I was stuck on a desert island with only one food to eat for the rest of my life, this would be it, hands down. Seared Ahi Bruschetta: 5/5 My only complaint was that the toasted bread they served with the Ahi quickly became soggy in the sauce that they drizzled over the plate, causing a slightly uncomfortable texture problem. However, the fish itself was SO good that it totally overshadowed this, and it was simply a passing thought. Hawaiian red snapper: 3/5. My dinner partner said that this was horrendously over cooked, to the point of being chewy and dry. She would never re-order. Shrimp Carbonara: 4/5. Very filling. The shrimp were huge and succulent, and the pasta itself was covered in an extremely rich cheese/cream sauce that was easily 1,500 calories a noodle. I will never run off that bite of pasta I had, but it was SO worth it. Pro-tip, ask for it to be made with spaghetinni noodles instead of pene. It does the dish a huge favor. Pana Cotta: 2/5 It was pretty. That's all can be said for it. The flavor was bland and reminiscent of slightly spoiled milk. I have no idea what they were thinking. Salted caramel chocolate tart: 3/5 VERY mediocre. The tart shell was dry and crumbly. It tasted like it came out of a box at Costco. The innards of the tart was runny with chunks of salt randomly placed so that if you were unfortunate enough to have a salt nouggat in your fork, your mouth would explode with the overpowering flavor of the ocean. Not good. Service: As a table, we ordered sparkling water (which I'm sure was outrageously over priced, but that wasn't the problem). The problem was that they over poured it to the point that it was noticeable that they were trying to pad the bill.A child was eating with us at the table. She is 8 years old. Did she really need a big brimming glass of sparkling water? No. When I took it from her and told the wait staff that she didn't want it, was it appropriate of them to ignore me and her, and refill her glass? No. Thirdly, right after we had finished dessert and were about to get the check, was it appropriate of the wait staff to open up ONE LAST bottle and bring it to the table after we were ready to leave? No, absolutely not. Finally, could their intent have been more obvious?? No. It could not have been. In this category, they lost a star and a half. One last thing, and perhaps I'm a huge prude, but the girls that the reception desk were wearing a combination of the tightest, smallest, skirts and the highest, clunkiest heels. I would have expected such apparel in some sketchy dance club, not a supposed 5 star restaurant. I mean really, put on some pants. Especially when there are kids around.

This place was pretentious, overpriced and disappointing. Great view, great risotto appetizer. I ordered a Kobe style steak for $65. I have made much better steaks at home from Costco. My wife had the lobster appetizer which was so small we had to search for the tiny piece of lobster ($17). For dessert the tiramisu tasted like ice cream over a soggy biscuit, and the salted chocolate tart was so salty I couldn't eat it. Many of the multi server crew who looked to be surfer dudes by day were so out of their element in their attempt to be professional servers that it became comical when each one brought something to the table and said "Bon appetito" with an Italian accent. When we made the reservation they asked if it was a special occasion and we told them it was our anniversary, however no mention of it was made. Why ask? We go out fine dining often and don't mind spending $300.+ if the food and service is very good. At capische it is definitely not.

This was our second time to Capishe and it was very good. I had the tomato soup appetizer which was delicious and the beat salad which was also VERY good ... I didn't think the goat cheese ravioli on the of that salad was good at all though ... it was too crispy and dry and felt more like a potato chip than an al dente ravioli. I think it would have been better with a panko crusted warm goat cheese or something that showcased the cheese a little bit better. My husband had the caprese salad which he liked but didn't love. The children had a caesar salad which they loved. For my entree I had the truffle mushroom risotto (without the mushrooms :) it was VERY good, just super rich with truffle oil, parmesan and cream so i couldn't eat it all, but wow was it good. My husband had fish which he loved and the kids had a pizza and marinara pasta which they loved. Desert was unbelievably good! We had the ice cream sandwich duo and the cheesecake. They were both amazing but the cheesecake was my favorite if I had to pick between them. The service was excellent. It's very small so call ahead and make a reservation. Also, portions are small and it's expensive ... but the food is rich so you won't leave hungry!

This was better than Spago in our opinion. The service was top notch, the view was amazing (if you will be dining during sunset, definitely request lanai patio seating but if you plan to be there after dark, the lower garden tables are lovely) and the food was outstanding. The French Pear cocktail was perfect and highly recommended to begin the experience. The lamb shank was out of this world good (we were burned out on fresh fish dishes at this point and craved meat and pototoes) and the wine selection didn't disappoint either. We will defiitely be back!

We are staying @ the wonderful Hotel Wailea and knew we would have to try Capishe? out after sitting in the bar for the first couple of nites for cocktails and an really incredible flourless chocolate cake with a killer strawberry mini milkshake. Yes, this foodie chick likes anything "mini"! We decided a great Sunday nite dinner would be the perfect way to kick off the next 7 days of Maui bliss. So after enjoying sunset and champagne cocktails on our lanai, we headed over to Capishe? We found the perfect two seat at the bar that allowed us to enjoy the Maui view from the open air windows since the patio dining space was tight (highly recommend reservations if you want to enjoy sunset dinner from your table), but since we can enjoy the view right from our room (from the shower even!) - we were fine sitting @ the bar. We had already made friendly with the bar staff over the first couple of nites, so we were greeted warmly and cared for attentively. I started with the Lounge C cocktail - it had ginger liquor and vanilla vodka. Yummy and quite warming in your throat...nice big glass too. Just how I like 'em! We had the risotto - truffles, mushrooms, yummy goodness. It's on the appetizer menu - easy split for two. Will be even better when I get a full order of it as my entree if we go again! The best part was my honey said, "It tastes just like the risotto you make at home." That made my nite. Beet salad with goat cheese followed. The goat cheese had a nice herb flavor. Add in some arugula and then an incredible beet greens fried ravioli - nice! My honey had the caesar - nice tangy dressing - lots of lemony anchovy goodness. I had the Shrimp Carbonara. I asked for it on the spaghettini vs. the penne as suggested by a fellow Yelper - good call there! Yummy, creamy and rich! My honey had the pork chop - perfectly cooked on the bone with a butternut squash puree, a creamy polenta cake and a relish that was so good - I went back to decipher the flavor combo and he had already eaten all of it! I was very pleased with our meal - the lounge plays some serious neo-soul/retro music too, so it has a good vibe. This place is on par with some of our nicer restaurants in Sacramento (Waterboy). It is Maui expensive, that's for sure - we will def think about a 2nd meal there this week but keeping in mind, we will be dropping some bucks. But I am ok with that as long as the food experience and service experience are on point and both were incredibly solid at Capishe? Mahalo!

Oh my gosh you have to go here!!! A restaurant where both the atmosphere AND the food are both AMAZING!!! You can either sit on the lanai (top level) with amazing views of sunset, or sit in the lower level, which is the cutest little garden area, and really quiet and romantic because the tables are more hidden and spread apart. The Wagu, you have to get, was so amazing!! This is the highest quality of steak you can order. And the pumpkin nocchi was amazing too! A must if you are staying on Maui! Enjoy your time!! :) Rated the #1 most romantic restauarant on Maui, and it really is!! Actually I would say it's the most romantic restaurant in the hawaiian islands from what I've tried!

As usual, Capishe did not let me down. The food and staff were the best. I try to come here every time I get to Maui. This time I made it twice!

This was the first restuarant we ate at on our honeymoon. We heard it was recommended as a very romantic restaurant, so it fit the bill for what we were looking for. We arrived early and found that the Hotel Wailea and Capishe are both very beautiful. I was just bummed that we didnt come early enough to see it during daylight to catch the sunset. We had a drink at the bar, and the bartender was super cool and helpful in finding good drinks. These were the best drinks we had on our whole trip. They were super tasty and really strong. They may have been expensive, but this is Maui...everything is expensive. When we were seated, we were somewhat disappointed that we were seated next to a group of 10 loud guys in town for a conference. If There is one thing people in a group such as like to do...and thats drink. The restaurant knew it was our honeymoon and even put a sign on our table congratulating us, so I was surprised that we weren't given a more romantic location. Being from the Northeast, we are used to loud people, so we decided not to fuss about it. Luckily, once the food arrived, we quickly forgot all about our loud neighbors. We started off with the mushroom truffle risotto and it was amazing. I could have eaten an unlimited amount of it. It was perfect. For dinner I had the filet and it was one of the best steaks i've ever had. The potato gnocchi was like little bites of awesomeness! The wife had the herb crusted opakapaka. She said it was the best meal she had in a very long time. The meal was our best on our Honeymoon, and we would have given 5 stars if they had seated us a better table. We saw many other tables that were much more private that would have been better for our occasion. Everything else was nearly flawless, including the service, drinks and food.

I want to give this five stars, but two things prevent me from doing so: 1. The price/value, which if this was the only reason, I would still tack on the 5th star. It's not so much that it's pretty crazy expensive, b/c it is, but it's because I've had food that is just as good or better elsewhere for significantly less--not just a little less. You are definitely paying for the view here, which is gorgeous. But, we were staying at the hotel, so I get to see that view from the lobby. 2. Drinks, really just so-so. I know it's all about the food, but the cocktails should match the food in taste-level & creativity. They didn't. They were good, but not great. Everyone's right about the mushroom truffle risotto. If you go here & don't try it, there is something wrong with you. Maybe one of the most delicious dishes I've ever had. Top 5 probably. The sourdough bread was hot and yummy. The husband had the cioppino and I had the ahi "bbq" tuna. Both were fresh and well-prepared. We skipped dessert b/c I couldn't even finish my meal. Our server(s) were both very pleasant. The main waitress was a bit forced but doing a good job & her sidekick was fun & even backed up my case for parasailing. :) Worth checking out if you have roughly $200 to spare. Insist on the balcony seat & time your meal with sunset. Truly beautiful. I love Maui.

So we chose to dine at Capische for our last night on the island. First - we were blown away by the stunning and breathtaking view from the hotel lobby. Then we went to the bar and watched the sunset - the view from the restaurant is so beautiful.. We were seated in the garden area - very intimate and beautiful. Brett and Dylan waited on us. Two of our favorite waiters during our 10 day trip on Maui. They helped us choose a perfect meal. We split the caprese salad and mushroom truffle risotto. Beyond excellent! I had the seared ahi tuna and my husband had the cioppino - both outstanding and full of flavor. Brett & Dylan were outstanding waiters! I had one of the best cappuccinos ever. We lived the ambiance of the restaurant and the hotel. Will definitely come back next time we are here. A hidden gem we are glad we heard about.

We came here for dinner on Christmas Day, and we had reservations about 2 weeks in advance. The place was packed, and we were seated right away. This place is expensive, but we knew that going in so we didn't get sticker shock. The specialty cocktails are $15 and most of the wines by the glass are $10-$20. The beers are $5-$7, which is reasonable. They bring you complimentary roasted garlic sourdough bread, with olive oil and balsamic for dipping. They only give you a small piece, but they asked us if we wanted more. For the meal, we had the garden salad and the beet salad. For the main courses we had the meat and potatoes (filet steak with roasted potatoes) and the catch of the day which was red snapper with eggplant tortellini and shaved zucchini. The food was fantastic, but the portions are smaller than I expected. We ordered 2 desserts to make up for it, the salted caramel tart which the server suggested, and the trio of creme brulees. The trio were cinnamon, coffee, and amaretto. The tart was amazing, the creme brulees just very good. The view is nice, the service was great, and for a special dinner in Maui, this was a good choice.

I can't believe I was so disappointed by Capische? We specifically went for our anniversary, which was stated when the reservation was made. So why would you sit us next to a party of 10 golfers drinking up bottles of wine and having a good time? The server was slow to come to the table; he didn't catch the hint that we wanted to order right after he brought our drinks; my mojito was horrible lacking rum and mint - it tasted like club soda with a sprig of mint...oh that's right, that's what i ordered - not! Then someone else had to take our order because we waited another 10 minutes after getting our drinks; the appetizers took 20 mins to come; after the app plates were cleared it took another 15 mins to get a salad; after the salad plate cleared another 15 mins to get the entrees, timed to arrive at the same time as entrees for guests who came 30 minutes after us...HUH? I completely understand ambience...but this was ridiculous. We both ordered fish, but like the bf said, italian restaurants don't do fish well. The apps were salty...and my mahi mahi was raw in the middle and lacked taste. At least like all the other reviews mentioned, the view was good...too bad we didn't get to enjoy it from the restaurant, good thing we stayed at the hotel. Go there if you're NOT celebrating a special occasion, and enjoy the view, because that's what you'll be paying for. Oh, and the food when it finally comes to you, should be alright.

My wife and I were looking for a great place to have dinner on Christmas night. I asked at another restaurant where they would go if they only had 3 days to live and they recommended Capishe. My wife is a chef and we are foodies, wine lovers, and love to experience greatness. Capishe meet our every request and made everything great. We ate on Christmas night and we were not rushed, the staff was relaxed and willing to do anything. We were not rushed! Our food was chosen from the fixed price menu and it was so wonderful I did not want to stop eating. The abidance was amazing with the candles and the light breeze. Great romantic restaurant with wonderful food and staff. I will go there again!

Greatly overrated and overpriced. Setting is dark and unwelcoming. Greeting was almost hostile; service was confused and very slow. Food solidly mediocre. Not worth the trip

Think twice before you decide to eat here. We had dinner on NYE and it took almost four hours for five courses in a restaurant that was not even completely full. The portions are surprisingly small, I think they charged by the calore, $150 per person, and the execution is questionable at times. The servers had good intentions, but were unable to completely deliver considering the price.

We had a sunset dinner at Capishe on our last night in Maui. Everything we tried was wonderfully prepared ... freshly baked roasted garlic bread, scallops, truffle risotto, and veal cooked two ways - marsala and parmesan. The wait staff was attentive without being too intrusive. The only small negative was the Pina Colada that was kind of watery and not very fruity. It's my favorite restaurant in Wailea ... I would say Capishe is comparable to Mama's Fish House.

Enjoyed a nice quiet meal with great service and just the right amount of interaction from the staff. The courses were spaced nicely and the quality of the food was very good. The wine list provided a good number of new and old world options with very decent value in the wines ranging from $65-$120. The Lilikoi Vespar was a solid cocktail, a nice dry diversion from the sweet tropical drinks.

Over the last 5 years I have been to Capische a number of times and I frankly have never been wowed by it as others seem to be. Service is often inconsistent and with some exceptions, IMO the prices reflect the setting more than the food. However this last visit will most certainly be my last visit. We originally had reservations for the garden but were advised that due to potential rain, we would be seated '"INSIDE." But when we arrived, we were seated at the end table of the balcony which was hardly "INSIDE." The wind was so strong it was blowing the glasses over and you had to hold onto your dinner napkin. While I know the restaurant is not responsible for the weather, winds were high that week and had I known we would on the balcony I would have opted for another restaurant. It was misleading to say that we would be seated inside when there is no inside except at the bar--which is where we ended up. Having eaten out every night, we wanted something simple and our server told us they could prepare their housemade pasta with an assortment of fresh mushrooms and vegetables. That sounded great. We ordered salads and the pasta entree and were presented with about 3 oz (I know how much 3 oz of pasta looks like because I measure it at home) of SOGGY pasta noodles with tasteless olive oil (could have been canola that's how tasteless it was) and slices of garlic. Not a single mushroom or vegetable to be found. And this was $24.00. Since no one asked if we were enjoying our entree, we just finished what we could and got the check. We then went to Tommy Bahama to get SOMETHING TO EAT!

Not a bad meal, but for the price there are much better spots in Maui. First we asked for a table with a view. I know, everybody wants that, but they put us at a table with no view, while we watched several nice tables stay empty during our entire meal. Not a big deal, but disappointing. The garden was nice, but no view from our seat and too many bugs. For an appetizer we tried the beef carpaccio. Definitely not the best carpaccio I've had-over-cooked and not very thinly sliced. The flavors were good though. We went with the highly-recommended shrimp carbonara and ahi tuna dishes. The carbonara was OK, but the prawns were not at all the shrimp I was expecting. The ahi tuna dish was also OK, and nicely-cooked to rare, but unspectacular. The coconut panna cotta was excellent for dessert. The wine was OK, but did not stand out. Again, not a bad meal, but for this price we wish we had gone to Spago again. Even by Maui standards this was simply not a good value for the quality.

We have eaten at all of the top restaurants in Wailea numerous times. Capische has somehow escaped our notice until now. The ambiance, amazing views from the deck, and a gorgeous garden if you don't want any sun, is great. The service was also superb. We were waited upon by a team of two very friendly and attentive servers. The food greatly exceeded our expectations. The gnocchi are truly one of a kind. So light a fluffy, but with a great crunch from being pan seared. Just amazing. The capprese salad and risotto were also delicious. The steak, Capische style was also fantastic. The Gorgonzola on top was perfectly balanced, not overpowering the steak itself. It also came with more gnocchi, yum! They had a good and inexpensive kids menu that our kids availed themselves of. We we certainly return here.

I rated #1 on MauiGuidebook.com , and this is what I said: An all-around spectacular dining experience. Impressive culinary artistry, extensive wine selection, romantic ambiance, spectacular views, and stand-out service - on every one of these points, Capische stands tall among the very best restaurants on Maui. The Food: Northern Italian fare with Southern French influence. Prepared with the freshest locally-sourced food; award-winning Owner/Chef Brian Etheredge's creations absolutely stand out. Etheredge is both an artist and a craftsman; foodies consistently appreciate every bite. The appetizers here shine. In fact, it's impossible to pick just one stand-out. Mushroom truffle risotto is definitely the the most talked about - but the pumpkin gnocchi, quail saltimboca, carpaccio, and ahi bruschetta are all equally worthy of special mention. The most notable entree is the Capische Cioppino (Kona lobster tail, shrimp, scallops, clams, local fish, saffron tomato broth, & capellini.) The herb crusted opakapaka is also a spectacular choice among a menu full of winners. Wines: Multiple wine spectator awards and a decent cellar mean that you're guaranteed a knowledgeable staff capable of delivering perfect pairings. Definitely save room for desert - and the ordering is simple: one of you orders the creme brulee, the other the tiramisu (just trust me on this one!) Location & Ambiance: Capische sits on the mountainside overlooking Wailea and the deep blue Pacific Ocean. The views are expansive and breathtaking. The sun sets dramatically over the island of Lana'i accompanied by the islands of Kaho'olawe, Molokini and leaping whales (in season.) After the sun sets, the lighting is dim, and the seating intimate. Capische is not a large restaurant and seating is limited to about ten tables. Since sunset is the most dramatic time to be here, be sure to make your reservation well ahead of time. Your best choice is to make reservations timed to coincide with sunset. Most seating is on the balcony, which provides unobstructed panoramic views of Wailea and the sun setting over the Pacific - what a backdrop for a romantic dinner! If you prefer to dine later in the evening, forget the balcony and ask to be seated in the garden - tables there are private and even more romantic after the view has faded. Capische is located in the Hotel Wailea (previously Diamond Resort), an all-suite garden-villa-style resort originally focused on Japanese clientele. The Diamond Resort was built around impressive koi ponds, streams and waterfalls. One pond sits in front, flowing into a waterfall that cascades beneath the raised restaurant to emerge as a stream on the other side. Extend your romantic evening by taking a stroll around the manicured tropical grounds. Service: Service here is in line with the more leisurely island attitude, but most definitely attentive; Ample and knowledgeable waitstaff deliver well paced service throughout your meal. Ill Teatro: Capische also offers a private dining experience where the chef will cook exclusively for your party. See the photo above for a peek.(I'm just going to have to imagine how awesome this is!)

I love eating at Capische...I can't really comment on the variety of the menu because we've eaten here 4 times now, and I can't help myself and order the same thing every time: mushroom truffle risotto, tomato mozerellasalad (they have the Italian name for this salad on the menu) and the braised lamb shank w/the lemon risotto... The service is excellent and the food is amazingly good. I actually take smaller bites while eating here to savor every bite. This time I had the salted caramel...I will be ordering it again for sure.

    * EPIC FAIL!!!! I too cannot believe the positive reviews here....what a joke this place is!!! (10-07-12). First we met at the bar with friends that were staying there. This was after Nick's cancelled our reservation with no notice on 10/07/12. We had to make last minute reservations anywhere that was available so Capische was it. We should have known it when they were the only place that could have taken a last minute reservation, hint, hint! We had a few drinks and ordered an appetizer at the empty bar. At 30 minutes we asked to be seated and have the appetizer at the table. They refused to seat us stating that the appetizer had to be served and eaten at the bar where it was ordered. It took 48 minutes for this overpriced, overcooked, lousy appetizer to arrive!!! Obviously the staff cares more about their tips than the customer service that earns it!!! The restaurant was 75% EMPTY, and we had requested a table with a view. That got us a table away from the view, against a wall with two of us facing out and two of us facing the wall, what view?!?!?!? And all the time like other reviewers noted here, there were lots of great tables open the entire night with no one seated at them. The food was good (tasty), but here is the rub that shows their greed. The waiter went on, and on, and on, about how their shrimp is caught locally, 3,000 feet down, do you want them peeled?, do you want the heads removed?, etc., and even tried to impress us with the ships name in which it was caught that day.....wow! These must be really incredible monster shrimp!!! So I ordered a $40.00 plus (a-la-carte, mind you!) plate with these incredible shrimp and pasta. Since it took over an hour for a tiny appetizer and drink at the bar, I was pretty hungry and looking forward to this plate. There were four of us, and two of us ordered it and our jaws literally dropped when it arrived (and yes, the restaurant service is just as disappointingly slow as the bar!) I should have known with an empty restaurant, terrible seating and slow, slow service what to expect, but I foolishly found out I was still a sucker! Get this! The shrimp was a four-count of the smallest shrimp I have ever seen! They were literally the size of a nickel! After all of the crap the waiter fed us about the shrimp I expected that I would need both hands to hold one! What a complete joke and rip off this plate is!!!! So you get four micro shrimp and a palm full of pasta for over $40.00! Mind you the reality is that this cost less than $1.00 to prepare. Nice mark up huh!!! The only people that love the food and prices there are the owners!! So after a $500.00 dinner for four we actually went back to our hotel bar and ordered more food because we were still hungry! (And no, we are not fat people that eat a lot!) Don't waste your time and a ton of money on poor service, poor seating, micro portions that are extremely overpriced, and all of the nonsense hype. This place was empty for a reason!!! HINT! HINT!!! Here's a good tip! Instead go to any fast food place, get better food, get better service, and leave full and put $490.00 back into your wallet!

The food - great. I had the steak and potato gnocchi and shared the arugula salad. Mmmm good. The gnocchi was some of the best I've ever had (even though I lived in Italy for a year). I also had the creme brulee for dessert which was unique and delicious. It was served in a martini glass since it was intentionally much more liquidy than traditional creme brulee. It had a nice caramelized layer on top and strawberry bits at the bottom. Mmmmm. Service - pretty good. They were great at accommodating our request for a seat on the upper level, which has amazing views. NOTE: the garden below, where we were originally seated, is really cute and the tables down there are more private but your view of the ocean is pretty much blocked and, if it's windy at night, it's pretty cold and somewhat lonely down there. One weird thing was that our official server never came by to introduce herself or take our order so her "assistant" did it. He was nice enough but I was confused as to who was waiting on us since the official server, whom we hadn't before met, later came to "check on" us. It also took them a good 20 mins to bring us bread (some ppl who were seated after us got theirs first). Since it was my birthday they brought us the creme brulee on the house. It was a great surprise and even though we were both stuffed, it was so delicious we managed to finish it!

For BIG money I don't want BROWN Carpaccio raw beef salad nor slightly off seafood pasta at $49. Too bad this place used to be good now I just find the quality sad and way overpriced.

Ate here five days ago and was sorely disappointed. High point was the truffle risotto which was flavorful and had great texture. Unfortunately, two different fish orders, grilled and roasted, produced the same result, a small, dry portion with little taste. Even this could have been rectified by good service but our waitress was surly when she wasn't inattentive. (A waiter, not our primary server but helping with our table, was great.) The next night we ate at Spago in the Four Seasons and enjoyed great food and superb service. Capische staff, both kitchen and dining room, should do the same and see what can be accomplished.

Took my wife here for a special occasion - her *0 birthday. We had a 615 reservation with a 624 sunset and it was nothing short of spectacular. The 3 course Prix Fixe dinner was wonderful and I agree - the mushroom risotto was wonderful. I wanted to give Capische the full 5 stars but after booking 2 months in advance and telling the reservationsist (and hostess) that it was a special birthday ...... NOTHING. A complimentary cup of coffee or dessert would have been greatly appreciated; after spending over $300 on dinner and wine. OH WELL

My fiancee and I came here to celebrate our one year engagement anniversary. we made our reservation for sunset and the sunset was beautiful the view is perfect. my son came along as well and i wasn't sure if they were kid friendly but they have a great kids menu lots of crayons and even fish food to feed the koi's in the pond outside he really enjoyed it. to start we ordered two peroni's, the beef carpaccio & mushroom ragu it was great a little over salted but it was good then we had the bolognese with penne and ribeye which was absolutely mouth watering! my son also ate the bolognese with penne he really enjoyed it! I have one serious problem with this wonderful restaurant it took 20 minutes to get our peroni's, 45 minutes to get our appetizers, another 45-50 minutes for our entrees and 25 minutes for one scoop of vanilla ice cream for my son, I was appalled at the wait! our waiter was very nice but the fact that dinner took almost three hours was ridiculous i almost wasn't hungry when the food finally arrived because i was stuck eating bread which was very good by the way, but the point is this restaurant is worth visiting maybe we came at a bad time but hopefully we get better service next time.

Not only was Capische one of the best places we ate at during our vacation, it was also one the best italian meals I've had. We werent going to eat here as it was at the hotel we were staying at Hotel Wailea, and we like to adventure out but all the locals insisted on it and I'm so happy we did. The truffle risotto was amazing and a must! By the way this is at Hotel Wailea in Wailea not in Kihei

Found out about this place on Yelp n decided to make reservations for our 1 yr wedding anniversary. When I made reservations I told the hostess what we were celebrating n she assured me "a very romantic table". Upon arriving, the hostess was very nice n friendly. We were seated at a table that wasn't particularly "romantic" or special from the others. All of this restaurant's tables r outdoors on the balcony so our table wasn't any different from the others. Other yelpers have praised this place for the view but I must've come when it was too dark to see anything "beautiful". All I saw was darkness; nothing extraordinary. I'm sure it would've been beautiful during the sunset tho. I would've given this restaurant 5 stars but they lost a star cuz although they knew it was our 1st wedding anniversary they did not give us anything complimentary [i.e. dessert]. Appetizers: Based on yelpers, I got the pumpkin gnocchi and my husband got the mushroom truffle risotto. Soooo yummy. The risotto was rich but not overwhelming. Entrees: I got the shrimp carbonara and my husband got the cioppino after I read reviews and knew he'd enjoy it since he's a huge seafood lover. Both were delicious.

The views are awesome and the atmosphere was superb. We were not disappointed with the evening. We started with the infamous truffle risotto. It was, as others have stated, awesome. My husband tried the catch of the day dish (Hawaiian snapper I think), which I thought was delicious. The fish was delicate and flaky and the flavor matched the fish. I wish I had ordered it too. Instead, I tried the Cioppini. It was ok... I thought the seafood was a little tough and the flavor was overpowered by garlic. At $54, I was expecting something better. I wasn't terribly impressed with the waitress either. Maybe she was having an off night. If the rest of the waitstaff had been snooty then fine, I get it... but I felt like she couldn't be bothered with us. We finished with an excellent tiramisu.

We decided to have our anniversary dinner at Capische a couple of weekends ago because we had heard good things about it. We actually had our wedding ceremony at the gazebo lawn so being on the property brought back many great memories. We called for an 8pm reservation and they said they could book us at 7:30 or 8:15. We chose 7:30 but what is weird is that at 8:00, there were at least five "balcony" tables and all of the "balcony" booths were empty. Must be a scheduling thing. But I digress. We were seated promptly and throughout the evening, the service was great. The food, for the most part was excellent. We started by splitting the mushroom risotto. They split the one serving into two bowls so we didn't have to pass the bowl back and forth. The risotto was delicious but after the complimentary bread, we didn't want to overstuff ourselves so we took some of the risotto home for another meal. For our entrees, my wife ordered the cioppino. She enjoyed it very well, and had the opposite experience with it than the reviewer on 9/21/13. Must've been a different chef? I ordered the grilled Hawaiian fish which happened to be the hapu`upu`u or sea bass. I had never had it before so I decided to try it. I was disappointed in the fact that it was dry and tough. I even had trouble cutting it with my dinner knife. I asked about it being tough and the waiter said that it's a larger, thicker cut than usual but if I was unhappy I could order something else. Never having eaten this before, I thought maybe that's how it's supposed to be. I did some research online and the meat is supposed to be semi-firm but delicate. I still think that it was overcooked though, as it was pretty dry. I should have ordered something else but I didn't want to wait another 15-20 minutes while my wife ate her entree and then would have waited for me to eat mine. On to dessert, which was the best part of the meal (my wife agreed). We ordered the Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart with Caramel Ice Cream and it was rich and delicious. I love caramel so I wanted to eat it all myself! But being the good husband, I shared with my wife. She's usually cool to caramel but she enjoyed it as well. The kama`aina rate of 50% off one entree was appreciated and we were glad we chose Capische for our anniversary dinner. After dinner, we walked around the hotel area, reminiscing about our wedding day.

The restaurant is fancy and the view is spectacular. We had just gotten married on the beach that day and came here for our wedding dinner. They told us that we had the best seat in the restaurant. I thought that was very nice and we really appreciated it. The service was excellent. Both of our servers were very attentive. We tipped them well. Now as for the food, it was edible but not enjoyable. We were given suggestions by our servers but we decided to go with other selections. We figured that for the price, anything would be good. We were wrong. I had the veal parmesan, and it had way too much cheese and salt. I couldn't finish it. My husband also was unimpressed by his meal. Good thing they brought us bread, otherwise we would have paid $120 and still been hungry. You pretty much pay for the view and the atmosphere. The food is just an afterthought.

Listened to my fellow Yelpers and picked this restaurant for my wife and my 40th birthday dinner (our b-days are 2 days appart) on our Holiday/birthday visit to Maui. We were very pleased we did. We were a party of 6, with my mother and our 3 kids (8, 10, 12). From the complementary valet we walked through the hotel to the restaurant. We were seated at a lovely table outside with Tiki torches and a great garden. I think the view would be amazing in the day time or during the Summer. But we still enjoyed it, in the dark with the moon and stars and Maui on the brain. Our servers were excellent and took great care in taking care of the kids and us equally. (I should point out that our children are extremely well behaved and have eaten out around the world at nice restaurant and that we expect them to be on their best behavoir when brought on a nice dinner). We started with salads and all had something different, my wife had the beet salad with a fried beet ravioli, I had the mixed greens with Maui goats cheese, our 12 yo had a carprese that had a nice Maui twist of thin onions and island grown tomatoes, my mother had the cesar. All very tasty. For main courses I had the fresh catch of the day a Hawiaan Snapper that was just delicious, my wife had a really amazing pork chop, my mother and the 10 yo had shrimp carbonara and the 8 & 12 yo had bolognese. The pasta dishes were huge, the kids could have easily split them and the Shrimp were scampi sized! We picked out a lovely italian white wine (where most of the bargains of the list seem to be). We had saved a little room for dessert (the kids and my mom boxed their pastas -- plenty for lunch the next day) a so the boys had gelato banana nutella was the favorite and my 12 yo had a chocolate fest on a plate was pretty yummy. They brought us each a sort of Flan Martini with I think plum or passion fruit on the bottom for our birthdays. All in all I would say this was a good meal and at a reasonable price for high end maui. The service was excellent, and so much better than HM General Store we were very glad we went and will certainly go again.

OK so I went back to Capische last night for Valentines Day.. It was a Prix Fixe menu which was nice it was 5 courses and only 1 of those courses was actually what they stated online they changed the whole menu which was not a bad thing..... So soon as we walked in I get a rose from the hostess and we get seated in the lobby for about 5min then we get seated and much to my surprise its Matthew the cute waiter that I loved so much last time so I knew It was going to be a good evening... He remembered me and new of my reviews from the last time I went there so Thank God I wrote a good review but I still asked him to please not spit in my food and he promised he wouldn't Hmm now only if I could get his number.. lol ok back to the food... Oh wait b4 the food the Assistant Waiter I didnt get his name was very good as well The service here is impeccable.. Ok enuff Ass Kissing... We started off with an Amuse Bouche Kushi Oysters and Caviar and yummy the only bad thing about an Amuse Bouche its normally so yummy and sucha tease.. First Course was a Cheese Tortellini with corn in a Truffle sauce with Butternut Squash.. I really enjoyed the flavors in the dish It was very very good and my Uncle was pretty much licking the plate clean.. 2nd Course was the Grilled Romaine Lettuce with Pancetta omfg was this delicious it was so juicy and just simply amazing I couldn't get over how good it was simple yet perfection... 3rd Course Ahi Carpaccio I don't remember much at this point cause my buzz was really kicking in but I do recall the Ahi melted in my mouth it was probably the best piece of Ahi I have had but I dont remember the other components of the dish... Intermezzo was a White Peach Sorbet Bellini YUMMMY!!! This place really does make the best Sorbets I have had.. Here is the point where I got disappointed basically for main course 4th Course you had 2 options Fish or Meat we both went with the meat and I was really disappointed..... The menu said Rib Eye it was a Petite Portion with Gorgonzola, Tuscan Potatoes, Onion Jus but it was more like Prime Rib.. and the cut of it I thought I was either at a Wedding or at a Buffet Meat Carving Station cause that it was it tasted like.. A luke warm carving station version of Prime Rib.. The Potatoes were great the Onion Jus was amazing the meat was EHH but I'm still giving it 5stars cause they earned it and I cant fault them for 1 bad part of a perfect meal.. Then we have 5th Course Dessert.. It was a trio of desserts A Huge Chocolate Covered Strawberry, A spoon of Caramelized Chocolate Creme Brulee & a Strawberry Milkshake.. I wish they would have cut out the Milkshake and gave a bigger size portion of the Chocolate Creme Brulee cause it was heaven so delicious but it was a tasting so I cant complain but it was so good it can bring a tear to my eye lol..... All and All was a great night!!! Amazing Food, Atmosphere & Service... I highly recommend this place!!!

I had such an amazing experience dining at Capische for my birthday :) Our Server was BENNY; & his back server was Jacob. They were both awesome, and very attentive. Alex is also an awesome manager, and made it a point to come check on us :) For starters we started off with a crude board, then had a mix of the mushroom truffle risotto & Slow Cooked Egg Carbonara! For the entree we split the porcini crusted ahi (*rare); super super ONO! yummy yummy! We loved it! For dessert, we had the Lilikoi tart & chocolate salted caramel tart :) yummy yummy yummy! I had an amazing time at Capische, and I am so glad I chose to dine there for my birthday :) Mahalo!

This was our favorite restaurant in Maui, period! Maybe even in all of Hawaii, and we went to some serious 5 star places, but this was so good it was unbelievable. Environment, food, service, value, drinks, dessert, view, it was all perfect. Pros: 1. Everything! Food was phenomenal, view was perfect, sunset was beautiful. 2. Service was excellent, we showed up early and the bartender made us crazy custom drinks (we just told her we trusted her, and we weren't disappointed). Waiter was great, manager was a good friend afterward, everyone was so nice. They even gave us a ride home down the hill for free. 3. Show up before sunset, leave after, you won't be disappointed. Make a reservation and ask for the corner table for two, perfect 180 view of the world. 4. Ambiance is great, very romantic and friendly but not snobby. We even made friends with the couple on the table next to us, their 40th anniversary. Cons: Absolutely nothing! Tips: Get the quail, the shortribs, and order extra dessert! Order outside of your comfort zone, and take car service so you can sample all the libations!

Wonderful experience all around! Breathtaking view, tasty food, great wine selection. Went there on our final vacation day. Was a memorable experience. The only suggestion- please improve cheese selection choices for a cheese board:)

Great Service and Ambience. You can't beat the sunset. Our man was Benjamin. Excellent service. The food was very good, but not great or outstanding. Their famous mushroom risotto was spot on. The other dishes not so much. In all fairness, this was my first time dining at Capische. Usually, I like to go two or three times before posting a review. We will give it another try, next time we are in Maui.

oooLaLa! Romantic, beautiful, quiet, classy and a special occasion kind of place. We enjoyed a protracted and delicious sunset cocktail hour (aka Happy Hour) and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. My lilikoi martini was expertly prepared by Chad. We loved the pupus. The presentation and flavors were art. I don't know if I can ever go back there without ordering the tuna carpaccio with coconut and lime. It sounds sweet but was perfectly balanced. The salad was fresh and our entrée of hanging beef was superb. The beef was tender and melt in your mouth delicious. I never really "got" gnocchi before. I always thought they were lifeless little wallpaper paste dumplings. Capische has converted me. I see the light. Yes, Capische will be on our favorites list of places to be. PS. Don't let the spectacular sunset blow you away.

The food was absolutely fantastic!! I ordered the caprese salad for my starter. They use their local grown vegetables here so everything tasted so fresh. This was the best caprese I ever had. Their mozzarella ball was creamy and delicious. For my entree I ordered the fresh Hawaiian catch which tonight was the opakapaka. Grilled to perfection! Lastly I topped it off with a creme brûlée, which was great as well! Creamy at the top and had a mix of berries at the bottom. The view from the restaurant is lovely. I would recommend to come right before sunset. You have amazing views throughout the restaurant. (It's not too big so reservations is a must)

I was at Capische? for a rehearsal dinner and the menu was set so i can't really comment on the food much, although everything I tried was delish (gnocchi, short ribs. I'm mostly writing this review on the location. I'd never been to the Hotel Wailea before but it's gorgeous. Views from the lanai of the restaurant were amazing. I want to go back and maybe stay at the hotel! Oh, don't try the donuts. yuck. and I LOVE donuts. My sis loved the sorbet. :(

I did not know food could taste this fantastic. The pumpkin gnocchi with lavender Parmesan Alfredo sauce was absolutely phenomenal. My lamb shank with lemon risotto was perfect in every way. The servers were extremely knowledgable and they even gave us a surprise complimentary dessert for our honeymoon. This place is magical and our experience was unforgettable.

Piece of Italy in Maui! I dined here a few nights ago with my husband and we had such a perfect evening. We came on the recommendation from Brian at Capische Market and are so happy we did. Being from NYC, we were looking for an excellent Italian meal and we found it here. The ambiance was romantic- we sat out on the lanai overlooking the candlelit garden (which looked like a really nice place to sit!) The sun had just set so the sky was a beautiful backdrop (sit by 6:45 if you want the full sunset.) The food was delicious. We enjoyed the Caesar and Black kale salads to start which were fresh and flavorful and then had the pumpkin risotto and Carbonara. We didn't leave a drop on our plates. Everything was cooked perfectly. We really loved the focaccia bread as well. We had no complaints about the service. Everyone was friendly and we always had whatever we needed. Wine menu was a little on the expensive side but if you're looking for good wine you'll get it. Great spot to check out when in Maui, it had it all- ambiance, delicious food and a gorgeous setting!

I live in Los Angeles. Im a foodie. Aside from Lahaina Grill (my other Maui Fav), Capische is the best meal in Maui..PERIOD. I'm staying at the Four Seasons Maui which has Duo, Ferraro, and Spago..good but whatever, nothing special. Mamas Fish House is a joke..big drive and gimmicky food for $$$$. Not worth it. Capische is located at the Hotel Wailea which is really a high end boutique hotel not many know about. Great service and food really was excellent. Sat in the garden which I recommend especially after sunset..very private and romantic. Server was super attentive and friendly. But at the end of the day the food has to speak for itself and it does...in spades. Very impressed and trust me I goto and have been to every notable restaurant in this country. Yes..best meal in Maui. You're welcome.

The view is phenomenal. The service is exactly as it should be for it's price point. As for food, some wowed, and others, not so much. I'd recommend the red snapper or meat & potatoes dishes.

The servers are nice, but the food is fussy, over priced and not good. Chicken had as much salt as a deer salt lick. My grown son could not eat the soup. You would think with such a beautiful view they would hire a chef who has tasted the food. It was like a mad scientist mixing his brew. Save your money and time, its a waste of both.

Food first - exceptional. Pumpkin gnocchi was great. Had a couple of fish entries. Fish was good, but the adders, such as caramelized fennel, were fantastic. Service was fine. Whole menu is overpriced, but that is Wailea. What detracted from the experience is the glaring sun. Only reservation we could get was 5:30, and the sun was almost unbearable. Had to keep our menus and hold them up for shades. I'd advise not going there until almost sundown.

******UPDATE***** I'm not sure what has happened here, but we were very disappointed with our meals. We were in Maui for one week and went to Capische? two times for dinner. Both times, the meal was mediocre, uninspired and overdone. I would also like to note that the menu has not evolved or changed in the last two years - this is a red flag in my opinion. Here is a run down of the items we ordered - and why Capische? is being downgraded! 1) Heirloom Haiku Tomato Caprese - good, but hard to mess up 2) Beef Carpaccio - great flavor and perfectly thin, but hard bits of inedible something made the dish hard to eat. 3) Kumu Farms Organic Beets - for $17 you get ONE ravioli and a couple of beets. Even in NYC this cannot be justified (and the one ravioli is just okay). I don't understand this at all. 4) Mushroom Truffle Risotto - risotto is always cooked well at Capische?, but some of the mushrooms were too chewy for my liking (it's a texture thing I guess) 5) Kabocha Pumpkin Gnocchi - some pieces we received were a bit dense and for $16 - you get 10 very small pieces; Not very satisfying. 6) Bolognese - I can make it better at home; when you go to a restaurant with a good reputation, you expect the food to "wow" you...and I was not "wowed". 7) Braised Lamb Shank - best dish we received. This dish alone gets a 4.5 stars. The meat falls off the bone and the lemon risotto balances the heaviness of the meat very well. 8) Meat & Potatoes capische style - worst dish we received. The filet, which we ordered medium rare, was an overdone mess with a funky flavor. The potatoes - I cannot even remember (which is an issue in and of itself). I have talked this place up to friends and family since we discovered it, but no mas. We will considered coming back as customers once substantial changes have been made, capische?

Last year while on my honeymoon, our awesome waiter recommended an off the menu dish that I absolutely adored! It was an upscale version of Frutti di mare. So as my hubby and I returned this year for our babymoon, I wanted the same dish. I politely asked our waiter this time around if the same dish could be reproduced again. He brushed me off insisting that what I had last year was a seafood cioppino and not an off the menu meal. He insisted that I was confused. I'm from the Bay Area, I KNOW what cioppino is and what I had last year was NOT that. Long story short, I didn't get what I wanted, was brushed off by some douche waiter but at the end of the day, the restaurant offers a romantic ambiance, the food we did get was delicious and I had a wonderful time with my hubby. Fingers crossed you don't get the same waiter as us.

One star ? If only I could give less. The one star fir service. I have no clue as to what I ate. ahi ? I guess. Very strange taste. Steak was good. Carbonara was very salty. And $300 later - back to our hotel for a glass of chardonnay to forget the whole dinner. One star for service.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Wailea where this restaurant is housed (separate review). At the urging of the staff, my husband and I ate there, the result of which was that he ended up with food poisoning (we think the pasta carbonara was the culprit). He was sick all night and didn't eat anything for most of the next day. Not exactly what you want to happen on vacation. We had 2 kale salads which were delicious but the portion was small (the salad was the size of a fist). The risotto had the consistency of a rice pudding --it tasted pressure cooked. Since my husband actually makes risotto he could tell the cook didn't spend the time to stand and stir it for 30 minutes as risotto preparation demands. Dessert: we had the chocolate cake, which tasted as though it was made with sand. Our server did a disappearing act mid meal. The highlight was the wine--our server's recommendation was fantastic. The next morning, I told the front desk that I wanted to speak with the restaurant manager about the incident specifically so I wouldn't feel like sharing the experience on social media. Someone did end up calling me but left a message "thank you so much for dining at the restaurant - hope you enjoyed it!" Huh???

Romantic and memorable...that sunset view! What a gorgeous restaurant and experience. Food is serious quality. Taste amazing. Presentation beautiful without trying too hard. Their staff is the perfect mix of attentive and knowledgable. Capische just made my top 3 faves on Maui.

This was hands down one of the best meals I have ever had in my life. We had several courses and each course kept getting better and better! Doug said his egg carbonara was the best thing he has ever put in his mouth! Seriously! I had the ahi which was superb! Dessert was divine! Every morsel just melted in my mouth! To top it off the view is exquisite! What a fantastic hotel! We were staying on the other side of the island but it was worth the drive! If you are staying on the south side it is an absolute must!!!

I received top of the line service at this restaurant every staff member I encountered was absolutely amazing and professional. I couldn't be more surprised at how delicious everything was, something as simple as a sashimi slice blew me away with its incredible mix of flavors. My table was excluded from other guests at the restaurant which made me feel very comfortable during my meal. I was treated phenomenally by my waitress who made sure I was happy throughout my meal but never rushed me. This is hands down the best restaurant on the island and I will tell everyone I know to try it out!

We ate at Capische on Tuesday evening May 26th 2015. The view is spectacular, that unfortunately was the best part of our experience. There were four of us and we ordered from the fix price three course dinner, regular menu very pricey. Two ordered the charred ceasar and two ordered the mixed greens. When they were delivered the two green salads didn't have any dressing! We called that to our waiters attention and he took them back to get the dressing put on. This took approximately 10 minutes. Then two of us ordered the beef short ribs and the other to the fresh catch which was Ono. When these dishes were delivered they all looked very nice. Unfortunately, both of the Ono dishes were severely overcooked and over seasoned with salt and pepper. We called this to our servers attention and returned the dishes and decided to go with the short ribs also. The short ribs took approximately 15 minutes to be delivered while the other two diners finished their meals. When I returned the Ono dish I also asked to have my glass of Chardonnay substituted with a glass of Merlot to go with the short ribs. They left the glass of Chardonnay. When the short ribs finally got there they were very very good although our fellow diners were already finished with their entrées. I was shocked when we received the bill and we were charged for everything that was ordered, including the glass of Chardonnay, with no sort of compensation for the inconvenience and the poor quality of cooking done in the kitchen. I brought this to the servers attention and he sent the manager, Mark, over to talk with us. Mark was rather confrontational and was trying to sell us on the idea that all of the dishes were very good even though we had to return them. I let him know that this was extremely unacceptable and that in my experience dining at nice restaurants is that when the kitchen or the server makes a mistake the manager usually does the right thing and comps the customer something to let them know they appreciate the business and want them to come back. All the manager did was reduce the food bill by 10% or $20 on the bill over $300. I would definitely never return to this restaurant and would recommend that you don't either.

I come to Capische every time I'm in Maui and get the Cioppino every time. It's one of my favorite dishes of all time and I even chase this dish at other seafood restaurants across the country.....so far nothing can compare! Everything on the menu is delicious and the service is top notch. The view (only if you get there by sunset) is amazing as you get a panoramic view of the ocean. Once it's dark....forget it....just go for the food. Not typically a family restaurant but we went the week of Thanksgiving so there were a lot of families with little ones. Highly recommended if you are in Wailea!

Excellent meal with excellent service. The staff was very attentive. The setting and the view of the sunset was spectacular. Please do yourself a favor and order the dessert. The homemade ice cream was amazing! The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the price. Quite expensive. $190 for 3 people, but we ordered a couple of drinks and dessert.

Expensive? Sure, but you get what you pay for. My wife and I have dined here twice within the past year. The pumpkin gnocchi and mushroom/truffle risotto are tied for the best dishes. Don't fret if you are worried about over the top, "white girl wearing Uggs in Starbucks during fall" pumpkin taste. The gnocchi are light, delicate and perfectly pumpkin. The risotto is expertly cooked as well, with rich truffle taste and plump mixed mushrooms mixed throughout. We have also eaten the lamb shank, roasted Ono and porcini crusted ahi (melt in your mouth fresh). All were great, but the previously described dishes stole the show. Surprisingly enough, the cheapest bottle of Pinot noir was great. Light and refreshing for a red and available from their market just down the street. Cons, you ask? Outside seating can get windy and the lighting is lacking. To be expected with outdoor seating at night in Hawaii. Service can be a little slow for the price range if they get busy. Recommendation? Hell yes. You won't be disappointed. Just prepped for the bill.

My wife and I would like to compliment Capishe bartender - Chad. What a charismatic individual. He handles the restaurant and bar orders in such a professional manner. Recommend sitting in the bar area before dining and enjoying friendly conversation with Chad! What a great guy! -Joe and Claire

This place is so beautiful! It's really important that you schedule your dinner before sunset and sit in the garden. The service is wonderful - the food is pretty good. I've gone twice now and both times we've had the charcuterie (which is amazing)! I liked the bolognese but I didn't love it, a little too salty. Overall, great place!

I am starting this review while still waiting for my meal. It's been 2.5 hours already, and after a few tiny morsels from the mandated price fixe menu for New Years Eve, it has been a major disappointment. Each of the "courses" was no more than an amuse-bouche and they were each doled out in thirty minute increments. Though generally tasty, the quality didn't match the price. The very nice bartender felt so bad he kept offering us bread, and finally even poured us a a third glass of wine (each) on the house. Poor guy! When the much anticipated entrée finally did arrive, it was a tough, fatty, practically raw steak that I sent back to the kitchen, and reluctantly so, because I knew it would take them another half hour to bring it back to me. I was wrong. It took longer. We had decided on the spur of the moment to dine at the bar because we didn't have a reservation, and had been warmly welcomed to do so. So it wasn't the service. It was the restaurant manager and/or chef, who utterly overcommitted for the night and had way too many meals to prepare and not enough equipment, or kitchen staff. We finally clocked out after three hours, too much wine, and too much bread, and were exhausted from the entire effort. I have had less than stellar meals here before, but never felt compelled to write a review. This time was too much, and I can safely say I will never have dinner at this restaurant again. Prologue: The following day we learned that the hotel was fielding complaint after complaint from unhappy restaurant patrons, which is too bad. I'm told the hotel doesn't actually own the restaurant, so I hope the terrible reviews don't reflect poorly on the hotel, which is a really lovely place to stay. But go elsewhere to eat.

I came here with unrealistic expectations, because of the price and I had a motive when I decided to dine here. I wasn't sure if this was a place that I really wanted my wedding to be at or have catered by. I do not even know where to start describing my amazing experience. The wait staff was exceptional! The manager was right on the floor ensuring each and every individual party had the perfect dining experience. The manager even stopped by several times to check on the food. There was a table next to us who started to get extremely loud and obnoxious and even grew from a table that sits only 4 to having 6 adults there! The manager immediately stopped by and asked if we were okay and that he had no problem relocating the growing party. This isn't a place to just eat. This is a restaurant to enjoy not only your food, but yourself and your company. It overlooks onto the ocean and has an amazing ocean view. Perfect for dinner sunsets!! There are several other small tables in the garden to make your dining experience even more intimate. The wait staff was always attentive, professional, and honestly there for you. Silverware was replaced after every meal!!! Every meal starts with bread. The bread was good, but the balsamic vinaigrette was amazingly sweet with the olive oil and some fresh Parmesan!!! I highly recommend the entire party do the pre-fixed 3 course menu for $75! My fiancé and I did it and he had: $18.00 Quail Saltimbocca (pf sup. $5), $17.00 Bolognese Ragu, and $45.00 Filet. The bacon wrapped quail was sooo good!!! My favorite dish there actually. The bolognese was good, and the filet was seared perfectly. The filet was extremely juicy and tender that it just melted in your mouth. I had the $16.00 Kona Maine Lobster Salad, $19 Vongole Salsiccia manila clams, and the grilled Hawaiian catch $42). The lobster salad was very light and refreshing. The clams were very delicately blended in a broth with Italian sausage and pasta with cherry tomatoes! The Hawaiian catch was so moist and fresh!!! It had an amazingly crispy and crunchy skin and the fish was the perfect portion size. It was over a bed of beans and fresh cherry tomatoes!! We had to finish the meal with dessert!! I couldn't even decide on a specific dessert and I'm not even a dessert person. I ended up getting my usual Creme Brûlée trio. All the desserts change daily, so tonight they had vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate! This dessert was mouth dropping fantastic! My fiancé isn't A huge fan of creme brûlée and especially not strawberry flavored items, but he loved the strawberry creme brûlée! It was made with local strawberries! The chocolate was really good, but the vanilla was perfect!!! It was an amazing experience. The food may seem overwhelmingly expensive, but a lot of their ingredients comes for a local garden on site!! Between the dining experience and the quality of food, the price is beyond fair!! The quality of the food is beyond spectacular and this is by far one of my most favorite restaurants!! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Enjoy!!

The food here was hit or miss. The lamb shank and the mushroom risotto were both delicious. But the Caprese salad and the veal chop were not up to the standard I expect at such an expensive restaurant. The tasting menu is a ripoff- the first two courses are very small. It would be more cost effective to just order an entree and an appetizer separately. Also, make sure you check your bill carefully before you pay. Our server added a few items we didn't order, and we had to have them taken off the bill. A friend of ours who is a regular at this restaurant said the same thing has happened to him a few times.

I received slow, inattentive service. Other tables seemed to be offered bread and checked on frequently whereas we seemed to be in the blind spot of the staff's psyche. Didn't bring bread until I asked for it and I had to ask twice. I asked nicely to turn off the ceiling fan 3x because it was causing an annoying strobing effect and even though they kept saying they would turn it off they kept forgetting. Timing between courses was French-cuisine-like: slow. Even ice cream took 10+ mins to come out but was slightly melted when it did so it was probably the server not kitchen's fault. A server tried to serve us someone else's food. Menu hasn't seemed to change much if at all in 5 months (other than fish of the day type of items). Food is ok but seems to be stuck in a rut. This place has the team to be great and was great but needs to refocus. The tall bald male server we've had before is awesome and always spot on, but the waitress (and her assistant) we had this time was missing the beat.

I've been 3 times while I stayed at Hotel Wailea on two different occasions. They have a happy hour food and drink menu. The dinner menu offers appetizer portions of main course dishes for a reduced price, so you can sample more dishes. Our most recent trip, we had: Kona Maine Lobster Salad, Ahi Tuna, Beef Carpaccio, Mushroom Truffle Risotto, Kabocha Pumpkin Gnocchi, Lamb & Mushroom Ragu. We had a creme brulee sampler of 3 flavors for dessert. Food is a little pricey but flavorful. Our server, Kelly, was great & checked up on us often. She gave great recommendations for dishes and drinks too.

The food is definitely good here. However, for the price, I would say it's kind of a rip-off. The ambiance is not much classier than the rest of the restaurants in the area - and I guess you're only paying for the view which overlooks the ocean. We had the wagyu beef and the mushroom truffle risotto. Both were very very good and we were very satisfied. The wagyu beef was kind of on the tough side...it definitely did not melt in your mouth and it kind of tasted like a NY Strip. So I am left to think that either the chef really messed up the steak and left it on the grill too long or...they just charged me $80.00 for a NY Strip.... Fortunately, I was on my honeymoon so I guess I just forced myself to think that the chef may have messed up....either way I felt kinda gypped. The plus side is that the service is great and the other things on the menu were pretty tasty!

We ordered the crudo, quail, lamb pasta, gnocchi, and Lilokoi tart. Everything was delicious, well-timed. We were not rushed at all. Made a reservation surrounding sunset. Wine and cocktail list was extensive. Service was very attentive and kind. Our server was Ben. Hope to return to capische again soon.

Service was bad. It was good at first, but then after every plate we got, the wait for the next plate was really long. Took 45 minutes just to get my main dish. It was just my boyfriend and I and we were there for frickin 3 hours and let me tell you, it wasn't busy at all. I waited 15 minutes for my bill while our waiter was at the next table flirting with these ladies. The guy who actually gave us our bill was a back waiter. So service was horrible. Food wise it was ok. Crudo platter was excellent. I'd go back just for that. Our appetizers were amazing. Mushroom truffle risotto was really great. Bolognese was ok. Wagyu rib eye was decent but not the greatest. Potato gnocchi was really good. I was really excited when they placed my cioppino in front of me. I took the first bite and I was extremely disappointed. It was so horrible I couldn't eat anymore. Even the woman sitting at the next table didn't eat hers. That plate was the worst plate I tasted all night. For the price of these dishes, I'd expect the food to be amazing. So so disappointed. We had ice cream sandwiches with basil ice cream and bacon ice cream. Both the basil and bacon overpowered each sandwich. I got an apple "donut," and no. I felt like I was eating a mcdonalds apple pie. Like I said, with prices like that, I'd expect more from this place. I wouldn't recommend going here and I will not be coming back. Extremely disappointed with this place. Other than that, the view was outstanding.

Oh man, where do I begin! My husband and I ate here on our wedding night about a week ago (4/4/14). (We had a private wedding on the beach at sunset, just the two of us, and wanted a romantic dinner following.) I did a lot of research before making our reservation here since it was such a special occasion. I definitely made the right choice! I informed the restaurant of the occasion prior to eating there and they really pulled out all the stops to ensure that we enjoyed our dinner. We had the best table in the garden. There were no other tables directly around us, so there was a nice sense of privacy. They gave us complimentary champagne and their best waiter. I can't remember his name for the life of me. I wish I could because he was fantastic and took SUCH good care of us. I want to say his name is Jordan, but I'm not positive. Anyway, props to him because he's the man. They even gave him an assistant waiter just to ensure that we were taken care of! Now, the food. We started with the pumpkin gnocchi, which was TO DIE FOR! There was a hint of lavender in there somewhere which, for me, made the dish. I had the chicken and my hubby had the lamb shank. We were both in absolute heaven. My hubby (who loves lamb) said that it was the best he'd ever eaten. And my chicken was extremely tender and moist. I've never experienced the flavors I enjoyed that night before. It kept me intrigued and I enjoyed every bite. It was NOT a cheap dinner, but it was a special night, so money wasn't really an issue and it was worth every penny. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for some delicious and unique food. The chef here really knows what he's doing. I can't say enough great things about the restaurant. I thank them for providing phenomenal service and a great end to a magical day.

The view is beautiful, the wait staff both polite and funny, and the food amazing. What else can you ask for? Maui is awash in fancy resort restaurants, but Capische is a step above the rest. From the grilled Ono to the bolognese pasta (which you can get as an entree for double the appetizer price) to hangar steak, no one in our party was displeased with their meal. In fact, we went from being very talkative to completely silent once the food arrived - it was that good. As I said, the view is breathtaking, but it is open-air. On a warm night (and in Hawaii, most of them are), be prepared to sweat a little. The prices are also accordingly high for an upscale restaurant, but worth every penny.

We try and come each visit to maui, usually 3 times a year. This time the prices seem to have risen and there was only 2 choices of chardonnay under 100.00. Tomato salad was disappointing (maybe out of season) . Tuna was very good but overall we felt the price exceeded the value. When we commented to the manager about the wine pricing , 2 glasses at 25.00 and a short poor, he said they were evaluating their pricing, would have been easy to top us off, but that apparently was not an option. First time in a long time we haven't ordered a bottle with dinner but we just didn't like not having options. With peak season coming up, no need for them to worry about return customers.

Chose this restaurant based on its Yelp reviews. Location: superb. We asked to be seated in the garden. It was majestic... felt intimate and romantic. The lighting is very low--they bring fingertip flashlights for menu viewing. We arrived for dinner nearly 30 mins early, and they seated us anyway. Think the time difference threw them off, as after we were seated and water was poured, we were deserted. I had to find the host to remind him that we were there. He apologized profusely and brought us complimentary Prosecco, cheese and salami. Great rebound, and much appreciated! Food: our table tried an assortment of fish and pasta dishes. Delish and appropriately prepared across the board, but none were standout, 'knock you off your feet' dishes. Wine: this is what brings the star rating to a 3. The markup was RIDICULOUS -- over 300%!!! Word to the wise, bring your own wine and pay the corkage fee.

Phenominal.dinner on the premium secluded garden patio for our wedding night just the two of us. 2 waiters to attend to our every need, they Iced down the champagne we brought and were so gracious, explained how all the dishes were made, not just rattling off ingredients. Food is Innovative and delicious. Pricey too, but a one of a kind place. Magical.night for us

This was the most romantic dinner I have ever had!! We by chance got a table out in the garden. It was like we were all alone out there. We couldn't see or hear the other diners. The waiters were very attentive but left us alone. Our meal was fantastic and we didn't feel rushed. We actually both sat on the same side of the table- so we'd both be facing the sunset. Beautiful! Wonderful evening- and I'd go back anytime! The hotel looks beautiful also.... maybe we'll have to stay there next time :-)

We dined here for dinner in Maui to celebrate our engagement. I was hesitant to go at all, given that our reservation was for 8:30PM and everything I had heard was about the sunset view from the balcony. I decided to change our reso and request the best table in the garden, and I am SO happy I did. The place is absolutely breathtaking, and the garden is so romantic and intimate. We were led to our table which was perfect. Completely surrounded by flowers and greenery, it felt totally secluded and private. Our table was lit by small, intimate candles and our waiter also provided small keychain lights to view our menu better (nice touch). We chose a glass of wine each, and immediately dove into the menu. We decided to order a few items and share them - my stomach was still in knots from the proposal so I barely ate a thing! However, everything sounded amazing so we went with the recommendations from the waiter. Our first course was the beet salad. It was rich and creamy, unlike any beet salad I've had before. It was tasty, but not my favourite. We then had the apple-smoked bacon wrapped quail, which was prepared beautifully. Afterwards was the infamous mushroom risotto, which was definitely as delicious as everyone says! Perfectly smooth & creamy...I would go back for that alone. We finished with the Cioppino - a beautiful dish of lobster, shrimp, fish, clams, & saffron orecchiette - VERY rich and satisfying. All in all, it was a fantastic meal in the most romantic, beautiful setting and great service, I definitely recommend Capische? for any special occasions or just a delicious meal in Maui! PS - Watch out for bugs in the garden. We saw a HUGE centipede which freaked us out, but not enough to put us off the food ;)

Out Door seating, is a thing in Hawaii, but Wear Mosquito Replant! My husband was eaten alive! I escaped untouched, but that was because I was covered head to toe in clothing.. Yes I was hot, but it was worth not having Itchy bites! The setting and scenery was Amazing! Definite sunset proposal type of place! *hint* The food, was ok, it was not something I was amazed at, I had a Salad, with tomatoes and Mozzarella, hmm.. and the Gnocchi which tasted very earthy. . . The desert was a chocolate cake, and also some people had other deserts that were not a fan of the Donuts.. The View get's a A from me, the food, a mmmm... ok~

This has to be the most romantic place to watch the sun set on the island. High on a hill it offers s great treetop dining experience. Cocktails were stellar and a great wine list. Service was very attentive also. We ordered two fish mains and each rocked. This is the perfect honeymoon dinner restaurant but rather expensive.

Very good mushroom risotto but when asked to make simple Parmesan/Alfredo pasta dish it was awful. Also, I don't recommend the caramel chocolate tart. The breading around it when you bite into it had a sandy texture. Caramel and chocolate sauces were good though as well as the vanilla ice cream. Bit overpriced IMO

We stayed at the Hotel Wailea that houses Capishe. We were expecting a lot more from the reviews and the price. Our waitress warned us our entrees would be small, and they were indeed teeny. I ordered the Mushroom Truffle Risotto and my husband ordered the Lobster Ravoli. My risotto was pretty average, I've had much better mushroom risotto elsewhere. My husband's ravoli were TINY. Less than an inch in diameter and he only received 5 of them. I was hoping the meal would redeem itself by desert based on the amazing recommendation for the Salted Caramel Tart from the staff , but it too was very lackluster. It was small, the crust was brittle, the chocolate nothing special, and the ice cream did not taste fresh. Service was nice, they were plentiful with refills and asking if we wanted more bread. My neighborhood Italian restaurant back in Cali is way better...and much cheaper. The ambiance is nice, but the food and price are not worth it.

Pictures do not do a justice! The place is beautiful but the food was pretty lackluster for our Chicago foodie standards. We've had better food for less money elsewhere, but this place is definitely worth a trip (at least to the bar) to see the view and scenery. It was very peaceful and relaxing.

Dinner for 8. Service was incredibly slow, much slower than normal Hawaiian slow. Once order was placed, it took 30 minutes to bring appetizers. I ordered the carpaccio which was tough and stringy. Main course was the veal chop. It was awful and loaded with fat. It was really a fat chop with a sliver of veal. We had to ask 4 times before waitress brought butter to the table and asked twice for coffee creamer. Overall, poor service followed by poor food quality. You can do much better in Wailea.

Food was first-rate on this return visit, service somewhat stiff. Every dish was excellent -- the truffle risotto, porcini-crusted ahi, Caesar salad, even the salted caramel torte. Waitress was proper but remote, also the staff couldn't get the heat lamp lit at our first table.

  • Jaxen J.

Wasn't very impressed. Food was mediocre at best, and definitely not worth the price. We even ordered the "chef's special" (cioppino) - the fish was overcooked, lobster tail was chewy and bland, and shrimp were slightly burnt on the edges. The two servers we had were not helpful and were annoyed at the thought of giving us a recommendation on their favorite dishes. The bar staff, however, made delicious drinks (recommend the Moscow Mule). They were also very friendly and willing to offer to take pictures of you and your group. If you want good drinks in classy ambiance come here, if you want good food save your money and go somewhere else.

My husband and I live on Maui for part of the year and have been to Capische many times. We were really looking forward to a day late Valentine's Day dinner there. Since our last visit they have raised prices and decreased the size of the portions. My favorite caprese salad is now $17 and so tiny it's about 3 bites. The mushroom risotto is fantastic as ever, but my husband ordered the lamb shank and specifically asked the server to be sure it was medium and moist, not well done. It arrived well done and over 1/3 of it was fat and gristle and completely inedible. Our "garden" table faced the boring wall of hotel rooms. Our server didn't seem to really care when we nicely pointed out the lamb situation. We will think twice before we return to Capische especially with so many other stellar restaurants in Wailea.

Wow----how have we missed this gem? I mean we live in Kihei and sadly hadn't heard of this wonderful find. OK---so it is slightly hard to find but like with all treasures well worth the effort. The ambiance is casual elegance. On the night we went the piano played and set the stage for a beautiful evening. My wife ordered the veal chop. Coming from San Francisco (arguably a foodie mecca) we are accustomed to great food. She said, and I quote, "this is the best veal I have ever had" I ordered the fillet. I am 99% of the time disappointed by a fillet but I keep trying new restaurants in search of the perfect cut / sear. Whoever the Chef is - he deserves a hearty handshake because this was easily the best steak I EVER had - and again I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in New York and San Francisco. We ended the meal with an ice cream sandwich - between two fresh chocolate cookies, one baileys ice cream one banana. It was the perfect end to the perfect meal. Elizabeth (Restaurant Manager) was a delight taking the time to detail more of the offerings. Local tip - call and ask for the Kamaina specials - simply amazing. Tip for tourists staying at the Grand, Fairmont or Four Seasons---this gem is literally 3 minutes from your properties - a great close excursion and a beautiful change of scenery !!! You will not be disappointed. Cheers and enjoy

This place used to be good. Tonight capped its long fall. The kitchen must have been upside down tonight because it was taking about an hour per course to get food out. Not only was the waiter rude, but even the manager was making excuses about why we should be "patient." We asked for the check when our entrees came and even that took another 40 minutes. Capische needs new management.

While on vacation to Maui, my husband surprised me with a dinner at Capische? for our 7th anniversary. The restaurant was suggested to him by others who said it was the most romantic restaurant they had ever been to. Although we didn't make it to the sunset, it was still extremely romantic and beautiful. The staff was amazing and very accommodating. We had an issue with the wine selection (fault on us) so we never brought it up to the waiter. (My husband ordered a bottle of pinot noir. When it was presented to us, he was so entranced by the location he didn't pay much attention to the specific wine. We drank, and paid for, a bottle of wine that was 6x the amount of the one we ordered!) The food was amazing - I ordered the pumpkin gnocchi, and my husband ordered the veal chop. Everything we ate was fantastic. The wine, although expensive, was wonderful. My husband even had the piano player play our first dance song, which he did without hesitation. We enjoyed every bit of our experience at Capische? and would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Maui.

First of all the view is incredible. I mean amazing. If the food was horrid I would come eat here just for the view. Food is good. Very good but not amazing. It's expensive but not an outlier in Maui. We liked it. I had the risotto which I loved. My husband had the bolognese which he was lukewarm about. Beet salad was good but not amazing. I like that they focus on local foods.

** Happy Hour Alert! ** Daily 5 - 6:30 pm! $10 cocktails! Loved their strawberry puree mojito! With modest sized appetizers on the menu as well! And an amazing hill-top view of the ocean as it is associated with Hotel Wailea. The menu is VERY seasonal according to the catch of the day -- such as the octopus. (The waitress told us that they caught a shark so there was some shark in the menu coming shortly.) We had a party of seven. The size of all the appetizers are truly bites, or nibbles. The server did an amazing job of explaining how each of the food was crafted. My boyfriend and I found the food a bit on the salty side... namely the tako, ragu, risotto. I think this would be an amazing place for a romantic dinner for two. The lady that kept drunk-jabbering to me in the bathroom kept saying over and over again how she was here last year for her birthday and this year again. Yep, I have to agree with her. This is on my radar for my birthday too -- but I don't want to drunk enough to make a fool out of myself. P.S. It's difficult to make reservations though... We had to settle for the bar tables since we couldn't get reservations. Call way, way, way in advance :)

The first time we were here was 6 years, as we were checking out spots to have our wedding reception. After tasting their food then, we knew right away we were having it here. After the wedding, we received plenty of compliments from our guests for having the best wedding reception food, all thanks to Capishe. 5 years later, we finally returned to Maui, and had to come back here. I'm glad to know they just improved on their food, but still kept some of the classics. We had the hawaiian catch crudo, caprese salad, pumpkin gnocchi, truffle risotto, and the veal Marsala. Everything was amazing! The caprese is a must and the truffle risotto is spectacular. This is one of very few places where I would order the risotto. Along with the great food, they also have a vast variety of good cocktails. The Capone's Cup and The Substitute for the night was really good.

This is a great restaurant! We had reservation for 8, so after view time. However, we got there a tad early with enough sunlight to see the view, which is stunning, on a mountain top. Drink at the bar or eat at the tables up there if you are there for the sunset. I'd suggest drinks for sunset, dinner in the garden, which is below. The garden is very private and romantic. Great service all around. For starters, we had the truffled mushroom rissoto and the pasta with boar pancetta and egg on top. Both excellent. The lamb shank and filet were both generous portions and terrific. Once again, service was great. We left after our hotel's shuttle was closed. When we asked about a taxi at the front desk, the very friendly man called his own shuttle to take us back. What terrific service! Make sure you go when in the area.

This restaurant was (rightfully) recommended by the concierge at our hotel, the Fairmont Kea Lani. And the driver that took us to the restaurant recommended that we sit in the garden. Thanks Fairmont!! The seating in the garden is romantic and whimsical. Each table is completely separated from the other tables by trees or plants. We really felt like we were eating all by ourselves. And the view of the Hawaii sky is gorgeous there. So many stars...a rarity for us city dwellers. The driver did recommend to sit on the Lani if you eat there before/at sunset because apparently the view is epic. Nice wine selection. Service - good, but can you please help us poor tourists narrow down the menu? He did mention the guests' "favorite" items when we pushed, but refused to take a stand on any of the other dishes. Just tell us what to get! :) Food - one "must have" from our visit was the mushroom truffle risotto. Wow! This carried the entire meal and left us feeling like we were on a food high. Omg. We also got the bolognese and lamb shank. The bolognese was pretty good - homemade noodles, but the sauce was a bit too sweet. Lamb shank - the shank was good, but the lemon risotto was not. Way too lemony! Overall lovely restaurant. Recommend.

Beautiful restaurant in the Wailea Hotel! We were not able to get a last minute restaurant reservation with seating with a sunset view, but were able to enjoy the view initially from the bar and then enjoyed a very nice meal in the area beside the check in area. The food was very good and the service was attentive. We enjoyed our signature cocktails and the appetizers were excellent too.

Such a cool place very hidden! We were staying a few minutes away at the four seasons and wanted to venture out the first night. We walked in and were in shock how beautiful the ambience was! Such a romantic feel with friendly sweet staff. The food was so delicious but you may want to eat a little snack before you come. The portions are extremely small but well worth it. The ingredients are top notch and you will be in awe about how delicious everything was. It also has a very cute name capische?

This is a wonderful place for an intimate dinner. After dining at the big hotels a few times, this was a nice change of pace. Some of the key differentiators were that it felt like a quiet, semi-private, beautiful dining experience. While I don't mind kids in restaurants, we ate at a few places before hand where it felt more "family style" rather than "this is a date" kind of night. They also had a piano player whose music added a lovely touch to the night. The servers were excellent. Friendly, prompt, and sharp. Everyone knew the menu and how things were cooked. We ordered the Cioppino and it was delicious. The salads were noticeably small, relative to the price, but everything was high quality. I had a local greens salad and the dressing was uniquely delicious. We ordered a cabernet and a gin and tonic. Both were fabulous. We did not come here during sunset, but I'm sure that would have been breathtaking! Just a semantic suggestion..knock off the "?" in the restaurant name and it will seem more upscale. "Capishe?" threw me off at first --wasn't sure if it was a restaurant.

The good the bad and the ugly. This place is famous for its great views. They have an upper deck that takes advantage of those views. Nevertheless, even though they headroom on the upper deck, they put us on the lower deck, in the middle of some bushes, with a bunch of bugs. We asked to move. They said okay. Not sure why they put us down there to start with. Totally annoying. Food pretty good. Chestnut soup great. Sausage and oyster entree really good. Tuna appetizer not good. My wife tried to split it with me but she couldn't cut it - not a good sign.

the best "finer dining" restaurant on the island....Organic, local, spot on. Don't miss the fresh fish carpaccio, the Truffle risotto, pumpkin nocci , or the mushroom and lamb ragu. The drinks are really the only downfall here - they need a better mixologist. For $15, they miss the mark.

View was beautiful, service was good and apps and entrees were divine, but alcohol was over priced ($15-20 for house cocktails) and the dessert was terrible. We had the tiramisu and the donuts and they were both horrible. The donuts were nothing special and for $15, I expect special. The coffee that was served with the donuts was good, but the tiny donuts were something you could buy at the grocery store. The tiramisu on the other hand was terrible. It was frozen, bitter and small. Then the bill was $500 for 4 people. I recommend thinking ahead and doing happy hour there not a full meal. Decor was nice and he hotel setting is nice- as expected with any nice restaurant.

One of my favorite places to go out in the Wailea area! Capische is such a wonderful little spot. It's up on the hill a little in Hotel Wailea. (Which is a really cute and pretty boutique hotel.) The restaurant has panoramic ocean views from the Molokini crater out to Maalaea Harbor. I love watching sunset from there, so make a reservation or stop in at the bar earlier vs. later so you can experience truly how special this little gem is. Now, let's talk about food and cocktails. All of the cocktails are handcrafted and unique. And very different than most cocktail menus you find in Maui. A couple of my favorites, the Watermelon Martini, with fresh watermelon juice, omg! The only bad thing about this cocktail is just how easy it goes down. I also love the Poblano Margarita, great flavor with a little zing, but not too spicy (and trust me on that bc I'm a spicy wimp). My fiancé love love loves the Pear Manhattan. He gets so excited every time we come here so he can drink one. As far as food goes, I can't ever seem to eat past starters and salads, but there is a very good reason for this... you don't really need to eat anything except for starters and salads. Yes, I have had some entrees here and everything has been amazing. But as far as I'm concerned the only things you need to order are: - the pumpkin gnocchi in a lavender brown butter sauce. a must order! I really cannot put into words just how delectable these little gnocchi's are. I could eat a full 2 orders by myself, but then I wouldn't be able to eat anything else. ;D - mushroom truffle risotto. yes, truffle and risotto. I don't even like mushrooms and again, I cannot help but order this almost every time we go to the restaurant. - arugula and Humboldt fog salad. This is a weird one, you have to like arugula for sure, but the combo of it and Humboldt fog cheese is amazing. One of my favs! - if you are smart and go in time to watch sunset and sit at the bar with Chad (my favorite bartender) then you should try the bruschetta, which is freshly prepared daily based on what ingredients they picked from their very own garden. So cool! All in all, Capische is a great little spot for happy hour, cocktails, pupus and dinner. I very highly recommend coming here whether you live on Maui or are visiting.

Two words come to mind to describe Capische?: expensive and pretentious. We didn't check the menu before going there, and found prices very expensive, even for Maui. Full entrees start in the $40s and top out at about $65. Wines by the glass from $14 on up, way up. And we found the service pretentious - the waiter seemed to think the acting pretentious is what people want when they go to an expensive restaurant. This includes not very welcoming, and not very friendly. More like formal and supercilious. For these prices, I expect the food to be unusually good to special. My wife's risotto was unusually good, my pasta was good, but not good enough to match the price. The waiter pushed the tomato mozzarella salad, which I found not very good. The ambience is quiet and understated, which we liked. Cut $10 off the prices and freshen up the service and this would be a nice restaurant, but for the price and service we received - no thanks.

We go to Capische every time we're in Maui because I can't live without the carbonara for more than a couple of months. I don't know how they do it but it's perfection! I usually let one of the many skilled bartenders whip up a killer cocktail for me to enjoy as beautiful plates start showing up to the bar. I really like The Bonnie and Clyde, but there are so many gorgeous Italian wines to choose from so I usually say "surprise me!" The grilled Cesar salad is delicious, as is the Salumi plate which chef Chris makes in house and is also available at their store The Market that opened a few weeks ago. I need a whole other review for that place! I highly recommend Capische to anyone who wants a fun and delicious dinner at the bar for sunset or romantic night in the garden. Just let them feed you!

While staying at Hotel Weilea, we booked a dinner reservation on the terrace. When booking I was asked of any celebrations and replied it was our anniversary. We orderwd our first course (quail and a beet salad). Our server checked back after a long time only to discover they hadn't arrived. Quail was very good, beet salad okay. Second course of mushroom risotto arrived only a few moments before our main course. Seared Ahi was served cold my fresh fish special was good. Again, server checked on us after I was almost done and noticed my husband didn't ear much of his Ahi. She offered to get another order but we didn't want to wait. She promised she would "...make it up to us? Ordered dessert and more wine (ice cream sandwich). Our server did nothing to make it up to us and in addition forgot our anniversary. Spoke to the hotel front desk the next day and also received no response. Extremely disappointed. Many other better fine dining restaurants available in the area.

Husband and I really enjoyed our dinner here. We got here around 6pm - just in time for sunset! And believe me, if you come here for dinner, you want to request a spot on the upper balcony (not the lower garden level) and come for an early dinner so you can watch the sun go down. The balcony has some incredible views. Service was good and dinner was great. My husband and I shared a caprese salad to start - fresh tomatoes, beautiful buffalo mozzarella, and some shaved local onions - yum! And I ordered the truffled risotto - it was good and I was happy with the portion size. Reflecting back, I do wish I had the pumpkin gnocchi instead just because I've never seen it on a menu before. Husband ordered a steak capische-style and he cleaned his plate! For dessert, we shared the coconut panna cotta - it was nice and fresh tasting - not too heavy, not too sweet and so many layers! Pineapple polenta cake topped with coconut panna cotta, it had some basil and strawberry stuff and a scoop of goat cheese ice cream and something crispy. Definitely an involved dessert. I think each individual component was delicious, but I wasn't sure how to eat it as a whole. We will be going back here next time we are in Maui!

Good Italian food, located at the Hotel Wailea. I am surprised the food tasted as good as it was here. Seating is limited on weekends, and a live piano person dude (whatever) will be going at it all night. The servers are awesome, and will keep checking up on you (not in that annoying way though). If your in the Wailea area, and in the mood for Italian, then this is the spot.

This was our second time to the restaurant. The first time back in 2009 was not a great experience due to some unruly patrons nearby and the service-we were basically ignored. But we remembered how amazing the gnocchi was and decided to give it another try-not to mention the amazing views. We called ahead to get a reservation for 6 and they put us at this amazing table in the garden where you could still see the ocean-really cool. Service was great-both our waiter and the guy who did the bread etc. A bit of a team effort. They did really push the Prix-fixe but we weren't really interested. This is an expensive place though-will really hit your wallet if you get an app, primi and secondi! The risotto, gnocchi, beef carpacchio-all amazing. And you can get entree sized portions of the primi's -thought it does cost 2x as much (or maybe 2.5 can't remember). I had the truffle grilled fish-amazing. My father in law had the other fish dish and wasn't impressed-but he sent it back and they were very gracious and brought him out the bolognese at his request instead which he enjoyed. It rained before our dessert and they brought us in and made up a table on the balcony for us. The ambience is worth it! All and all-a very nice experience.

So my steak (a $90 waygu rib eye) was overcooked, some food on other people in my party's plate was cold. Service was terrible...we were there for over two hours and they were not busy. The only thing good was the drinks. Skip this place, for the love of god ship this place. Oh and yes they comped my meals and despite that, yes, I am still that mad that I am writing this review.

The only good meal in this place was the resoto. Too bad it was too little :( they should make an antre of it too instead of just apitizer Cups were dirty and smelled bad Food was overpriced The steaks had been sitting too long so they were cold. Customer service was good

This was by far the best place we ate on our weeklong stay in Maui. It's a perfect date night spot and the ambience is relaxing and romantic. Our server was amazing and took the time to explain everything that came out and gave us great wine recommendations to go with our food. We were the last table to leave that evening and instead of pushing us out the door, our waiter stayed and chatted about the island and how they grow and prepare their food. They also change our their menu items (most of them anyway) every week or two. We had the mushroom truffle risotto, cioppino, and ragu. For dessert we had these little donuts and coffee that were super tasty. We will definitely come back the next time we visit Maui!

Updated review from meal on Monday, October 8, 2012 Finally, a meal with both good food and good service this trip on Maui (meals at Merrimans - terrible and Spago - underwhelming). Four of us at dinner here just a bit after sunset after cocktails across the street at the Kea Lani. Wine list is of reasonable size and a wide range of prices. Both Italian wines and California. We ordered a bottle of red and white for the table, and they were both brought promply, with the right glasses and presented well. Appetisers and entrees were all top notch and mostly made with local ingredients, I had a tasting of three crudo's that progressively got better from left to right, the capreses salad was simple and delicious. Entrees were all good. I had the daily fish special, which was cooked well, if a little boringly sat over mashed potatoes. The lamb shank was superb (it's a heavy dish for a warm weather evening, but soooo good). The ahi entree was amazing too as was the veal shank (so tender and tasty). I'm not usually a big desser person and we were pretty full, but the four of us shared a chocolate salted carmel tart. It was great, and well worth the calories (whoever said nothing tastes as good a thin fees, never ate this). Our server was friendly and efficient. He managed the other gentlemen that served food and drink very well and made sure we were well taken care of (something Spago seems to have forgotten how to do). Sunset is a big time to go here, their balcony seating gives a spectacuar view and the sweet smell of the plumeria from the garden below isn't bad either. All in all, a really good experience and I gave them one more star than the last time, so a positive trend.

Service at the bar was awesome...but quickly deteriorated when we got to our table....and we had two waiters! The chicken was dry and salty and the Cioppino (which was highly recommended by the waitress) was just okay at best. The lobster was chewy and over cooked. Great atmosphere and great drinks, I would recommend taking your appetite somewhere else!

We had an awesome experience at Capische! The view is amazing. We went at sunset and we now have the best photo's of the trip from this night. Our waiter was very knowledgeable. From the wine to the food everything was awesome! The only downfall is it is very pricey and my dad was expecting authentic Italian food which it is not. Highly recommend for a special occasion or a wonderful romantic dinner.

Excellent food and service! Please ask for Jordan Sylva or Aaron Wong as your server. They went out of their way to provide the best service. Sous Chef, Chelsee Anderson was wonderful as well. The ambiance was amazing & the food was the best on the island!

Romantic and delicious! We sat on the balcony and had reservations at 5pm so were able to catch the sunset. The servers were very friendly and attentive. They even switched my choice of wine after telling them i wasn't happy with it. We had the truffle risotto (YUMMILIICIOUS!) and the beef carpacio (Loved it!) Hubby had the pork chop and I had the catch of the day. Both were delicious! Hubs said it was the best pork chop he's ever had. He was actually more impressed with Capishe than Alan Wong's. Yes it's pricey, and contrary to some of the other reviews, I think it was a perfect place to celebrate our honeymoon.

**Disclaimer we only had happy hour.** We had happy hour here before going to Koiso. When we checked into the hotel we received a postcard for a free appetizer at the bar during happy hour. We weren't really planning on using it since we were only staying in Waleia for 3 nights and there were so many other places we wanted to eat at. Happy hour is from 5-630pm (or maybe 530?). During this time they have some cocktails for $8 (strawberry mojito, moscow mule, etc). It was a great value for the cost. We had anticipated that the free appetizer would be something lame like fried calamari, but we actually got braised short rib gnocchi. It was pretty amazing (although a smaller sized portion). The gnocchi was light and fluffy and the short rib was tender. It was the perfect amount of food to start off before sushi. We wish we had time to stay longer for another drink and maybe another sampling of appetizer ($10). We did say it was too bad they didn't do happy hour later at night. I think it's to entice people to just stay for dinner at Capishe. Encourage them to have several drinks and they'll stay for dinner instead of having to go out and drive.

We loved this place. The truffle/mushroom risotto was by far the best risotto i've ever tasted. Our server was very friendly but not overbearing and he told us about the late-night lobster dives required to bring the special Maui lobsters to the table. The grilled romaine ceasar was just about perfect, but a tad too lemony. The lobster special was truly spectacular. The wine selection was good, and the prices were high, but when you consider the view (which is a lot of what you're paying for) it sorta justifies the $50+ entrees.

Wonderful sunset view and excellent food and drinks! Pricy but the food is truly worth it. The view is breathtaking with a wonderful sunset! I found it to be very romantic and the service was excellent. This was a great experience. The carrot soup was amazing. The Ahi and the Filet were fantastic, fresh and well prepared. Plating was beautifully done as well. You definitely get what you pay for here! Try at least once!

Great sunset view from up on a hill. We had the best table (in the corner), but unfortunately it was totally ruined by the noise from the yoga class below - then the baby arrived at the table behind us!! No action by t he staff to mitigate the damage. The prosciutto wrapped quail was inventive and delicious. The focaccia was great, with dipping oil. Unfortunately, the oil was poisoned by WAY too much basalmic. We had the 2007 Masi Campofiorin (baby Amarone) that was great. We paired it with the Veal Marsala. Primary waiter was weak, awkward. Secondary waiter was great.

In my line of work, finding original fine dining in random cities is a pretty frequent occurrence. Clients pay us, we take clients to fun locations, and then we all eat and celebrate our supposed wealth and prosperity. Eh, that's the gig. Of all the places we've eaten thusfar on Maui, I am happy to say that Capische trumps them all. I am thrilled to say that I discovered Capische on Yelp (good work, guys!), and that even the Miss Know-it-All in our group had never heard of it. Better yet, Mr. Something's-Wrong-With-Everything in our group loved it too! The restaurant: The decor of Capische reminds me of ski lodge meets Pacific islands, haha, but it's gorgeous. I found myself taking pictures in the lobby just because I couldn't stop admiring the ceiling! We were seated on the patio/ balcony in the back with a breath-taking view of the sunset. For a group of 8, we got a spacious table with booth seats on one side that was comfortably large but not too spread out. The food: Oh em geeeeeee, soooo good!! We preordered appetizers for the group, so we got the mushroom truffle risotto (I'd give Capishe 10 stars for that dish alone!), the ahi bruschetta, and the caprese salad. The salad was the only one of the appetizers that didn't wow me (too sweet and not enough tomato), but that's hardly saying it was less than great. For the main dish, I had the Rainbow Catch Snapper, which had some sort of breading and was served over greens and yummy mashed potatoes with sun-dried tomatoes and a vinaigrette. I also tried a bite of the ahi tuna which was possibly one of the tastiest tunas I've ever had! The service: Quick, attentive, but not annoyingly lingering. The servers were totally on their A-game and never missed a beat. After our meal, we were even allowed to play some tunes on the beautiful piano in the bar area while we waited for our taxi. (Apparently they have live jazz there on the weekends. Too bad we're only in Maui for the week!) Speaking of taxis, we asked the hostess to call us a taxi to take us back to our hotel, which never showed up. She called again, and when the driver did show up and he was so rude to us, he drove off without us (a whole other story, geesh). Christine (manager?) then spoke to the valet parking guys for the resort there and made arrangements for them to give us a ride back, free of charge. You guys rock!!!! This is an exquisite restaurant and I know that the next time I'm in Maui I will make it a point to come back. Yes, it is expensive, so reserve it for special occasions or moments to impress. Cocktails run about $9 each and the average entrée was $40. But trust me, you won't be disappointed!

This place has been a consistent top notch restaurant for the past several years in Maui, and we have experienced it first hand why. Ambiance is fantastic with the view of the Maui sunset. Service is amiable and friendly, polite and attentive. Food is sophisticated, well-crafted, and deliciously extravagant. Go for the Mushroom Truffle Risotto, the Cioppino, and the Quail Saltimbocca. Highly recommended. Make reservations early!

Capische is the whole reason I signed up for Yelp; it was one of the most amazing dinners I have ever experienced. (This review is LONG overdue, it's been unknowingly sitting as a draft for years.) The food, the servers, the atmosphere, and of course the company were all top-notch! I had planned a birthday dinner out at Capische (mostly because of the Yelp reviews) and expected a lot, but my expectations were totally blown out of the water. As requested we were seated at a balcony table to enjoy the beautiful sunset. We started with a bottle of Storybook zinfandel as we watched the sun go down. Since we were celebrating a birthday dinner, I decided we needed to experience as much of the menu as possible! We started with the beef carpaccio and Caesar salad, which were both fantastic. I ordered a fillet and grilled lobster tail for my entree and the birthday boy had a fish entree. The fillet was cooked perfectly (I have problems finding a perfect pink, but not bleeding medium) but had a dollop of blue-cheese butter on top that I mostly scraped off. I like blue cheese, and I like butter, but not on my very delicious and perfectly cooked steak! The grilled lobster tail was heavenly as expected. The birthday boy loved his fish entree and finished every bite. At this point we were both pretty much stuffed, but the hostess? manager? came by and mentioned the chef was sending out a special "Happy Birthday" dessert. The creme brulee with fresh strawberries was delicious, and luckily served without any embarrassing singing. From beginning to end our meal was complimented by the impeccable servers. We had 2 servers who seemed to work in perfect tandem to make sure we were completely satisfied. They were familiar with the menu, and exceedingly polite and professional without being intrusive. We left Capische happy, completely stuffed, and disappointed we hadn't found it earlier! For a special dinner, Capische definitely ranks at the top of my list for an all-around spectacular restaurant.

How does this place have good reviews? This is probably the most overpriced restaurant for the quality of food, service, and decor I have ever been to. The only good thing I can say about it is that the views are gorgeous, but that's about it. It is like a bad Hawaiian takeoff of what real Italian food is about - down to the cheesy Frank Sinatra playing on repeat. Everything we had ranged from pretty bad to just "okay" yet the prices were around $25 for some of the appetizers and $40 for the entrees. With drinks, you will easily spend close to $100 per person. You have GOT to be kidding me. I just ate at Redd in wine country for less money and the food and service and fine dining experience was a thousand times better!! Service was abysmal. Very slow to take orders and push food out if the kitchen, cheap decor and plates/flatware. Our server had no clue what she was doing and served us tap water with ice in it after the hotel told everyone not to drink the tap water due to flooding that had caused the water systems to become contaminated. Uh hello?!?! Basically, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

Excellent dinner! My husband and I had dinner here on our wedding night. They gave us an amazing table in the garden, very romantic. The food was great, margaritas were top notch (love the authentic salt). Prices were as expected for fine Italian dining. Service was good, our server had a bit of an attitude. We will go back for our anniversary!

Four stars for the famous, highly recommended mushroom truffle risotto. Two stars for the service. Maybe 3 stars for our entrees. We could have shared the mushroom truffle and would have been full. Excellent flavors. Even though it was a small portion, it did fill us up pretty well but after awhile it got a bit rich to taste. Our waitress recommended the Capische Cioppino which was a seafood party in your mouth. Main lobster tail, shrimp, scallops, clams, local fish, tomato broth & capellini. It was a bit overwhelming. Very, very seafoody but what do you expect? Big enough for two to share but definitely not something I would order again at $60 a plate. Our waitress Tammy Lou wasn't in her best mood that night. It was our honeymoon and we don't expect special treatment, but it was our first dinner in Maui and expect good ol' friendly service. She barely even cracked a smile. The server who served us our food was more upbeat then her which was refreshing. They have a few levels of dining outside with a nice view. I suggest having dinner as the sun sets. Pricey, so don't be surprised. I'm sure if we had a better experience we would come back to try other things on their menu next year but unfortunately, we'll pass.

Gorgeous views. We arrived while the sun was low in the sky and we were seated on the balcony overlooking the garden and the water. Our waiter was friendly and very helpful. I see the other reviews complaining about bad service but we didn't experience any. We got the tasting menu and a few drinks to go with it and we were very well taken care of. It's more than I'd like to pay but the food and ingredients were really tasty and the servers were attentive and thoughtful.

Shitake mushroom risotto and caprese salad split and presented beautifully? CHECK! Hot freshly prepared garlic bread (as in whole pieces of garlic, so just beware and make sure your other half has the same amount!). Beautiful view of Maui oceans. Impeccable service. YUMMINESS! What a way to start off the night. Besides the fact that we are sitting in a beautiful garden 15 minutes post sunset, the ambiance is amazing. Semi hot, but so relaxing you probably can't notice. Sit outside, its different from every other restaurant you've been to. After splitting the waiter's suggestion (which seriously came out beautifully split, check the picture out!) I ordered the chicken and Jon got fresh fish. YUM! The wine was superb as well. Mostly go here for a nice evening outside with friends! Totally worth the price. They had to basically roll me out of the restaurant to my room an hour and a half later. :) I'll go on a run tomorrow morning before I have to wear my bikini! :)

I used to stay at the Diamond Resort a few years back and this was my FAVORITE restaurant anywhere. I couldn't wait to go back and when I had an opportunity to spend ONE night in Maui, this was my first stop. What a disappointment! The wine was under-poured, the $17 tomato caprese salad had three small wedges and very little cheese. The ono main course was the size of an appetizer.. 3 ounces at most for $44! It was laughable! I mean that literally; we burst out laughing when the food was presented. The waiter seemed taken aback by our reaction and sent the manager over. He acknowledged that the 'chef' had short-changed us and offered a pasta to make up a full meal. That, and the two orders of bread we ordered, allowed us to bypass going to another restaurant for dinner on the way back to our hotel! THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! If you feel like dropping a couple hundred dollars (and having a good laugh), give it a try!

As always, food = 5, ambience = 5, service = 0 This time the management screwed up. Working with them for my wedding was a pain to say the least. If you're going there for food and ambience, I couldn't recommend more. But if you're looking for them to serve your wedding reception, be warned of the process. I had the worst time dealing with their management team and I wish you the best of luck. They were not clear about liquor choices - in such a way that makes me feel that they're trying to get more money out of me by not being clear the type of full bar or liquor choices they have. They were rude on the phone in the process. You'd think paying them a lot of money to host a wedding reception they should be at least somewhat nice to you right? I'm hoping this yelp review will get them to improve their service in the future so my experience is not in vain. Food was delicious - the flat iron steak was super good and in fact all the dishes were super tasty! Ambience - is to die for, their sunset view is truly magnificent.

The fine dining experience was superb. Service was untouchable. We were warmly welcomed at the hostess desk for dinner and our server April gave us very personalized and amazing recommendations. April gave us the best personal attention, as did her entire team of servers. We had fresh fish of the day that was delicious and perfectly prepared. The appetizers were well balanced, perfectly flavored, as well as artistic and lively. With the recommendation from April, the meal was perfectly paired with a wonderful Chardonnay. The desert was a mouth-watering and satisfying creme brûlée in assorted flavors. We enjoyed having the personal attention of the chef meeting us at our table and engaging us with the philosophy of the restaurant and dining experience. The chef was informative as well as inspiring. We highly recommend Capische. The atmosphere, ambience and views of sunset are exceptional, making it a very romantic experience and we plan on returning very soon.

Romance me bay-bee! Move over Michel's... Capishe has stolen my heart! Part Shangrila, part Villa Italia, this restaurant is pure romance. Tip 1: Take the scenic walk instead of entering from the front entrance. You'll appreciate the lavish property from it's many vantage points. Tip 2: Make your reservation early enough to savor the magnificent Wailea sunset. Simply ... W O W. Tip 3: Order a side of pasta with marinara. They make it fresh in the kitchen and you can tell. (Why is it "for real" fresh pasta has that super satisfying "give" when you bite into it?) The rest of the food was good but not so much as to override the venue. If you are looking for the "hearts on fire" restaurant for your special girl, this is the place!

Very disappointed with all the hype surrounding this restaurant. I was very happy with our seating as we had a private garden table that was very romantic with beautiful views. The night started off really great with the look of the hotel to are seats and the great risotto dish... From there downhill it went Started with slow service, and unimpressive main dishes not worth the 40 to 50 dollar prices. Ordered the veal and it the sauce had too many capers and the Marsala had to much wine, the dish was hard to eat. I really give this place 2.5 stars just because I had wonderful table. Goodluck if you decide to eat here.

I recently hosted my wedding on 10/13/12 in the garden area, and .... it was absolutely beautiful! i LOVE LOVE LOVE the food. we went all out and had our guest dine from the 85++ menu and it was so good. my Fiance and i ( or husband now) went to maui unsure of what we were expecting.. and scoping the location. I have to say, i did have doubts about the location only because the garden are was little secluded, however it turned out beautiful! Marina was so helpful and so wonderful, she was always available and so attentive. the service quality did not change. i know that sometimes when you are looking for location the service is great, and day of may not be so great, but this was definitely top notch. My husband and I are MAJOR food lovers ( babbo, perse/FL, Joel Robuchon), and really enjoy classy dinning experiences at whatever cost, and this was amazing. the only one thing that you may have to consider is that they don't allow live DJ's outside in the garden, however they do allow it in their ballroom... i think. and the garden area is very limited in space, and they only allow live music outside which was perfect for us since we had live music all night! tip- if you want elegant quality and romantic type setting, i 'd really recommend... oh and the gnocci and the mushroom truffle risotto is absolutely delish! thank you so much to capische for making my wedding so beautiful!

How to describe a perfect evening? Capische?! Romantic table for two? Yes Perfect food? Yes Excellent service? Yes A memorable experience? Yes! My wife and I were on Maui to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Thanks to the descriptions on Yelp we knew this would be a special romantic place for dinner to follow our vow renewal ceremony, which was at sunset on a nearby beach. We made reservations in advance and exchanged a few emails and phone calls with Marina, the host/manager. We arranged to have a wedding cake delivered to add to the fun of the celebration. We arrived at 8:00 and were seated at the last table in the garden, which overlooks the entire resort. There weren't any other tables nearby so it was liking dining in a private garden. The area was lit with tiki torches and candlelight, but maybe it was a little too dark to see the food. Perhaps some taller candles needed on the tables? The waiter did provide a mini flashlight to read the menu. The waiter was friendly and attentive, but knew when to give us our privacy as we exchanged presents and danced under the moonlight. The food was excellent and the kitchen was very accommodating of special requests. Appetizers: pumpkin gnocchi, goat cheese and beet salad. Gnocchi was flavorful and light. Entrees: cioppino, veal three ways--Marsala, piccata, and parmigiana. We don't like veal so the chef made it for us with chicken instead. Marsala was excellent but picatta was a little too salty for our taste. The cioppino was loaded with seafood (lobster prawns clams mahi shrimp crab etc); they made it without mussels at my request. A wedding reception was taking place on the restaurant balcony above and behind us. Although it was just the two of us, it felt like the staff at Capische treated us as well as the big group there. Our waiter served us our wedding cake slices while we silently toasted the newlyweds, wishing them 25 years of happiness to match ours! Thank you Capische for making our celebration a romantic, memorable evening!

Hands down the best restaurant in Maui. Went there twice during our recent stay in Wailea and can easily say it beats out all the top restaurants in the area, we speak from experience since we ate at all of them. From the view and the attentive staff, to the excellent food from every course, this is a must visit for all those that enjoy fine dining.

This restaurant's name is Capische. It is no longer a part of the Diamond Resort because the Diamond Resort is now the Hotel Wailea. I don't get the hype surrounding Capische. Folks, it is a very average/good restaurant with amazing views. If the prices were 50% of what they charge it would be a good 3 or 4 star place. But they are asking 5-star prices ($20+ appetizers, $40+ entrees, etc.) and that is the problem. You do not get a 5-star experience. It is small, which is wonderful. Maybe 15 or so tables, most of which seat 2-4 people, along a long terrace. All tables have spectacular views!!!!! And there is enough space between tables so you can't hear other conversations. There are also some tables on the ground level (downstairs on the patio, outside) which are great for larger parties but you sacrifice the view. OK. Now I am going to nit pick but I only do so because if you expect to be treated like a 5-star establishment then you darn well better deliver. And this place doesn't come close. - While enjoying a drink at the bar (nice bar but very small and set too far back to have any decent views) prior to dinner we were interrupted by the hostess who said our table was ready. Fine. But she tells us to close out our bar tab because it could not be transferred. Major hassle and not expected at such a fine restaurant. So I had to walk over to the bar, wait my turn and do the transaction. Not cool. Once that was done they seated us and we carried our drinks to the table - they never offered. Minor stuff I know and normally I would not care but they consider themselves a 5-star establishment and this type of service does not happen at 5-star places. - Young, inexperienced staff! Our waiter basically read the specials from a cheat sheet (never looking up) and knew little about food. Do me a favor and arrive work early and spend 15 minutes studying the specials. And look us in the eye when reading them - show some personality. Again, I know I am nitpicking but at $50+ per entree I want stellar service. And know the food. Everyone from the hostess to the server was young and inexperienced. Very annoying. Hire some professionals. As for the food. Very limited menu and honestly, the food is not great. Really. It is just good. And the presentation was very, very average. Enough. I've already spent more time reviewing this restaurant than it deserves.

We were told this was a must go in maui.. But I'm sorry I did! Service was awful, as if taking our order was doing them a favor. We asked about the ciopinno as the waitress said it was the chefs speciality!! The lobster was tough and the whole dish lacked flavor. We got the chicken and it was overcooked and salty as can be! Only good thing was the mushroom risotto and the Moscow mule cocktails!! Go for the sunset a cocktail and an app and be prepared to pay 150 for that and take your appetite elsewhere.

Dining on the balcony watching the sunset is a must! (The garden tables look also pleasant) Our waiter was very knowledgeable, professional and efficient. he knows exactly how every dish is prepared and can talk about the different ingredients as well. The New York steak was cook to perfection and best tasting ever! ( I don't remember steaks at Ruth's or Morton's tasting this good). I found out a few days later during a conversation over brunch with local friends, that their daughter in law is the general manager of this place. Isn't this a small island?

We checked into the Hotel Wailea for our honeymoon and had zero plans after a very busy wedding week. It was one of those ultra relaxed honeymoons with no agenda or stress. So we didn't feel like researching where to eat and saw this was the only restaurant in the hotel vicinity. We asked for a reservation around 6pm and they could only seat us at 9pm which didn't bother us at all because we're cool like that. The hostess was very polite which goes a long way to a Los Angeleno. We went early for a drink at the bar which is small and pleasant. The atmosphere is very pretty and the hotel grounds are stunning. This all lead to one of the priciest and most delicious meals we had in Maui. It was one of those things where you feel like you're eating an Iron Chef meal and you just savor every bite as you take in the sounds of the ocean and romantic beauty on the outdoor, elevated patio... but then you get a $195 bill (after tip and alot of booze) and think twice about eating there again. If money weren't an issue, I'd live in Maui and eat there often. Also, the super nice hostess remembered me two days later when she saw me at her other job 20 miles across the island. That's impressive.

Why go to Capishe? For the best cocktails on Maui. The usual prices are $14 for finely crafted cocktails but if you go at Happy Hour, 5-6:30pm, they are only $8. They use fresh fruit, herbs and juices; no weird artificial flavors. If you want a nibble they have select appetizers for $10 that are modest portions. The service was attentive and the ocean views were breathtaking.

I was very excited to try Capische given all the great reviews of the restaurant. We've been coming to Maui for years, and always make stops at the usuals: Nick's, Spago's, Joe's, Mama's, Banyan. This time, I was eager to try something new, and the reviews seemed to indicate this was the spot. Other reviewers said this was the best restaurant in Wailea, "better than Spago's," best caprese salad on the island. Pretty impressive? Only, not really. Yes Diamond Resort is an older Japanese resort (Diamond Resort is a high-end chain in Japan). In the last few months, they opened up the resort beyond its previously exclusive clientele. But it's old. Dated. The lobby is weird. The music playing is weirder. Capische is down the hall, but like others said, it's a strange journey there. The restaurant was understaffed. Our waiter was great, but he was hosting and waiting at same time until others arrived. Walking in though, the average age at the 6 tables that were filled? Probably right at AARP median age. Nothing wrong with that, but generally that reduces the hip factor quite a bit. Without a doubt though, the best restaurant views of Maui. Spectacular 180 degree views, and all tables are pretty good. Can't go wrong there. But let's get to the important stuff. The food. The chef is formerly from the Grand Wailea, and I can't remember where else. He's working with someone else, too, who started at Bouchon (ok, +1 for that), although unclear that the former Bouchon chef is working in capiche. It's a nice menu, but nothing remarkable or striking that would put it in Spago league. But that's OK. I ordered the mushroom truffled risotto, caprese salad and cioppino. Wife ordered a caesar and a bolognese. Caprese salad was nice. Very fresh, but the tomatoes weren't very sweet. They actually looked like Romas to me, but I may be mistaken on that. Fairly delicate, but for my money, it was an average Caprese. Certainly not on par with the incredible ones I've had even in Vegas at Caravino. I love the greens from the Maui upcountry. They have a unique taste that makes a plain green salad a little more than ordinary. But I think that's the only quality that made the caprese more than average. Truffled risotto had lots of potential, but was oversalted. I can't tell if it was just the broth reduction that had too much sodium, or what, but while I finished it all, it was way too salty -- a common thread for the rest of the dinner. The mushrooms were excellent, however. The cioppino. Supposedly the signature dish, and too often, a dish that's done poorly. The waiter even acknowledged this, and pointed out that the shellfish were cooked separately, and brought in individually as the soup was assembled toward the end so there would be distinct tastes. Good sign. Interestingly, the cioppino lobster was from Maine, not nearby Kona. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe Maine lobster makes a better cioppino than Kona, but I couldn't finish my lobster piece. It almost felt raw. I don't want chewy lobster that is too firm, but this felt like a piece of raw amaebi sushi. The shrimp too also tasted weird -- as in it tasted fishy. That just seemed out of place, so i stopped. The clams were great, the fish was too. Broth, again, over salted, so it didn't get finished. Wife's bolognese. All sauce, no spaghetti. No seriously, it was a HUGE amount of sauce. Again, pretty salty, too, primarily due to the Italian sausage. Now, I love Italian sausage, but it really ended up making the dish too salty. Wish there had been 1/2 the sauce, and more noodles. Final bit: the tiramisu. Nobody likes a soggy tiramisu, but I can't say I enjoy the other end of the spectrum -- a marscapone heavy tiramisu. This was all cream, very thick. For something that was advertised as being soaked in five liquors, it honestly was pretty dry. Maybe I'm too hard on restaurants, but all the other reviews of this restaurant really raised my expectations, and unfortunately they weren't met. Definitely not in Spago's league, but again, maybe that's the wrong comparison. Supposedly the hotel was just recently sold. I'm hopeful that means some upgrades in the restaurant. I think the chef has promise, and the location is wonderful. Perhaps the upgrades will allow him to reach higher, too.

Really a great experience. Our second time here. Great service, food, and view. Ask for a view of the ocean at sunset. Only criticism is they could do a better job at pacing meals.

A group of nine of us dined here last Friday for a friend's 40th birthday, enjoying a private table at the outside perimeter of the patio overlooking the sunset and grounds. Even being a larger party, orders were promptly handled, cocktails distributed speedily, and there was just enough of a pause between apps and mains to catch your breath and notice the beauty surrounding you. If I dined strictly on location, I'd be doling out a five here. Now don't get me wrong, the food is by no stretch of the imagination bad nor are the portions miserly. My gripes are all on account of a mismatch I found between price and experience. For instance, in a $18 app-portion of truffle risotto, I do not expect to find underdone grains of rice, nor did the other diners at our table who ordered it. And more's the pity as the flavors of the dish were outstanding with clear notes of wine and caramelized onion backing up the heady truffle aroma. Crunch on a few kernels of dramatically underdone rice, though, and the moment is ruined. The birthday boy himself ordered shrimp carbonara in which the shrimp were so overdone, you could have bounced them on the ground. Also not what one expects for an entree costing nearly $40. None of us are "send it back" kind of people except in the most extreme circumstances, but when a person barely touches his 'spensive plate of shrimp, one does at least expect the waiter to ask if it was ok. No such inquiry was made as the table was cleared. Nit picking aside, there were a lot of hits. The chicken milanese is tremendous with a fresh, flavorful ratatouille. If you like a good pork chop, you're also not going to go wrong with the one offered, paired with a divine apricot puree and fresh caponata. Desserts, of which our table ordered nearly one of each, were all fantastic with the gateau basque being of particularly high quality and deliciousness. So I would boil this all down by saying this: if you don't eat at similar establishments on the mainland and thus have higher expectations regarding service and consistency, you won't miss a beat. If, however, you're familiar with what a $100/person dinner should get you, there are going to be some disappointments in your future.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
