Don't Be Fooled! Not the same restaurant that is in Maui. The food here came out so quickly that we could not believe that it was actually prepared from scratch. The calamari was totally different from the Maui restaurant and it looked as if it came from a frozen microwaveable package. I honestly cannot recommend this place at all. Many better options in the Waikoloa area.
We stopped by here for dinner since it seemed like a pretty packed place. We sat at the sushi bar and had sushi bar specials, and the crab ramen. I don't mind if the place is not fancy, but I do expect the food to taste decently good. The carpaccio we got had a sauce that didn't go well with the fish, and the crab ramen was undercooked and very salty. I found myself ordering a bowl of rice to fill myself up at the end because I lost interest in tasting other things on the menu. The one upside was that our server was very rice.
Sansei was my wife's favorite bar on the Big Island. It is very nice and very classy. We stopped by after a wonderful day of scuba diving! (Kona Diving Company--reviewed separately). I had a Christmas drink, with eggnog, candy cane and a few other ingredients. It came chilled and frosty. My wife on the other hand had a Hot Toddy. Yes we always go to Japanese restaurants for Christmas drinks and Hot Toddies! I prefer to get my Sake at French or Italian restaurants. We didn't have the food this trip, maybe next time we will. It looked wonderful and I am sure it is tastier and far less expensive than the hotels that dominate the area.

Decent resort restaurant with funny wait staff and great seafood boil on Thursdays Food - 3 to 4 stars We lucked out coming here during happy hour on a Thursday. Their Thursday special is the "Southern" style seafood boil consisting of crab, prawns, clams and potatoes. This was really good. The crab legs were really good (meaty, fluffy) and the sauce was perfectly season. My wife and I eat quite a lot of shellfish in general and she said that's probably the best seasoning for a boil she ever had. The rest of the menu looked decent, nothing too inspiring. Service 3 to 4 stars We sat at the bar and was entertained by the bartending staff. They have good sense of humor and was quite attentive even when they were clearly busy Price - 2 to 3 stars It's at a resort, so as expected it's pricey. Come during happy hour to help offset this. Atmosphere - 3 stars A little 'sterile', but nice view of the pool and the ocean beyond.
Ever drink and meal was well prepared. Service was always personable, polite and smiling faces. Drinks and food poolside will take a while. Order ahead of time and be patient. We tried almost. Everything on the menu, including drinks. Food is ample, you can split and you shouldn't be hungry with drinks. If you want a fancy glass, you'll have to sit in the bar. No glass poolside. Waitress / waiters do not come by often. You're not too far from the bar to go order your own food or drinks. Bathrooms are nearby, you will share with hotel guests and swimmers. Breakfast, lunch and dinner have different vibes. Live music during certain hours at night.
The ambiance is great, the furniture is modern and clean. The wait staff is friendly and attentive, refilling your water, etc. I can imagine the service can get slower during their peak times. We came here for the breakfast buffet 2 mornings and dinner/drinks one night. By coincidence, we came on a day that had 50% off entrees. They will add gratuity to the prediscounted bill. Bread baskets are by request only. The bread was cold. The food for dinner was okay. Not amazing by far and not horrible either. As far as price, it's standard issue at any hotel you are dining at especially in Hawaii. So is it pricey? In that aspect yes but not unusual especially for the convenience of staying at the hotel to dine. The brunch on the other hand has the ambiance and food down. The juices were cold. There was a live omelette station and the sticky buns are amazing. You also get 25% off if you are staying at the hotel and is totally worth it. Overall, depending on what you are looking for this place isn't bad.

First of all, as others have mentioned, the ambiance here is first class. We started with drinks in the bar and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. We then moved to the "tea house" for our meal. The tea house is surrounded by water gardens and is done very well. Super comfortable, stylish and intimate. Except for a young busboy who was trying to rush us(payback for my earlier days in the business), the service was really excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and very warm. He made good suggestions and kept the sake and beer coming. However, while the food (both sushi and cooked meals) were prepared well, they all tasted rather unremarkable. Yes, the fish was fresh. And yes, it was presented in an appetizing fashion. But, I have definitely had better sushi. And, one of my favorite dishes, black cod with miso, was just average.
I highly recommend doing the teppanyaki. For your choice of meat, filet mignon is the BEST. I wasn't so thrilled about the stir fry vegetables... perhaps something more green? It does come with a really good salad. Regardless, the filet mignion was amazing! I had it with garlic rice. The food was delicious but what I was even more impressed with was the service. There is clearly a team work here. Everyone is super polite and friendly. The busser was very quick. Our waitress MJ was fantastic. It is not a ocean view but still a very nice atmosphere. I will definitely be back for more filet mignon!
The girlfriend and I are both huge sushi fans, and so we decided to come here for our anniversary dinner since we were already staying at the Hilton Waikoloa. We ordered the Rolls Royce roll, Green Sand beach roll, Lava tube roll, and Volcanic eruption roll. The customer service was mediocre. We had a reservation for 7:30 pm and arrived promptly, however it still took us 30 minutes to be seated. Once we were seated it took forever for the waiter to to make it to our table. By the time he arrived we had decided on both drinks and dinner. Once he took our order he came back 5 minutes later to ask us to repeat it. The wait for the food was a little long, but not too bad. However once we finished our meal, we could not seem to get his attention to bring us the check. We waited so long I had to go up to the hostesses and ask them to just take my card and pay there. My girlfriend and I both eat quite a bit of sushi and felt the quality of the food was great. The fish not only tasted EXTREMELY fresh, but the rolls had a great combination of flavors and textures. Our favorite was the Volcanic Eruption roll which employed just enough spice to not over power the flavor of the fish. As the saying goes, you eat first with your eyes and let me tell you, our eyes were not disappointed. The rolls were quite beautifully garnished. The prices were over the top, however it is located inside the resort so that's to be expected. The restaurant itself also had quite a beautiful interior as well as being surrounded by lush Japanese garden, including a koi pond. If you're looking to save a few bucks on dinner try heading over to a restaurant at King's or Queen's court. d.

Its the first day of our vacation. Our first meal in Hawaii was a Kobe burger and a lobster burger from this place. Not good. The lobster burger patty was crunchy. What the fuck is that about? The bed was soggy from the mayo? The Kobe burger was over done. I masked the flavor of burnt with mustard and ketchup. I came in 2012 and had short ribs on a nice bed of rice. It was the main reason why I came back to this resort.
Tasty food, but over priced for what it is. Let's just call it...Pool side food! I ordered a Kona lobster burger for $25. No fries. That's extra! Sit inside of the restaurant and not next to the shark lagoon if you're afraid of birds or want to enjoy your food and not worry about a bird landing on your plate.
The location of this restaurant at Hilton is great, right next to the dolphin quest. The food was very pricey and wasn't very good. We ordered the Mauka Makai Special for two - which comes with a Kobe burger and Kona Lobster burger. I had asked what is a Lobster burger? The waitress said it is like a crab cake - I thought YUM... When the order came out, I was shocked. The Kobe burger was so small, it is not like the normal size 1/3 lb you would get; the lobster burger was a 1 star, it is far from a crab cake style. It's more taste like imitation crab got glued together! This cost $39.99!!! What a rip off. I don't mind paying (that's why I ordered), but at least give me something decent.

this place pretty much sucks! We go here, since he bosses like it. I had the cheese burger, it gave me the runs, later that night. For the most part its for the white tourists who golf here, if not it wouldnt survive in the real world. If you want overpriced crappy food, come here.
We ordered a take out lunch because I was working and didn't have time for a sit down in the restaurant. I ordered the pastrami sandwich, it came with french fries. It was ok, nothing great. The bread was a little thin. I would probally not order that again.
Someone at the Hilton recommended this place to us. Turns out it is the grill at a golf course and not what we were expecting. Nice view of golf course, but otherwise the restaurant was dated. Service was good. Food was average.

This is a food court Subway, food was okay. Ice machine was broken, which caused a sour odor. The sequence of the sandwich construction is strange, not like other Subways.
How many workers does it take to make a sandwich? How many licks does it take to get the center if a tootsie pop? Where's Waldo? This and many more answers to follow. Sooooooooooooooooooo, my son and I got there and could hear the sandwich chefs somewhere in the back. YOO-HOO we shout and 3 older ladies scramble out. I order my sandwich and a customer (older lady 20 years my senior and anglo) next to me orders her sandwich. I order my bread and the older worker turns around, what kind she asks! I tell her the style of sandwich and she somehow manages to forget almost everything I ask her for. Do I want it toasted? No I reply but the lady behind me does so she attempts to toast mine too. Fewer than you're used to veggies but she gets that wrong too. The lady behind me and I are at the check out and I order cookies and the lady behind me orders one too. OK,the cashier says, that will be $13.62 and I hand her a $20. Wrap up the sandwiches and then the cashier says "I need 62 cents more........WHAT?!?! Cashier says yeah, your TWO sandwiches and the cookie. I guess she just assumed I was paying for the customer next to me. I have to void this and start again she says.........needless to say the lady next to me got a free sandwich on ME. This took 20 minutes.
I really love subway and i hate to leave a bad review but it's true. I've gone to this location many times before and got awesome service, delicious food, and the staff there would get the sandwich out in a timely manner. However, I've gone there the past 3 times and my sandwiches were a disaster. First of all, there's a lady that takes your order and just yells out 'NEXT' and isn't friendly. A couple more of the staff works slow and makes the veggies like a mountain of slop. To top this off, they don't close the sandwich and try to fit all the ingredients in; they roll it like a sushi roll. NOT IMPRESSED!!! I open my flatbread turkey sandwich to find that it looked like a maki sushi roll. I was so dissappointed. I honestly, will not be back at this location again.

Ordered a tofu mushroom dish off the menu, $9. At that price I thought it would be made to order, but I then saw the guy go into the back and tinker with a microwave. A few minutes later, the food was done. Sigh. The texture of the tofu indicated that it came from a frozen state. It tasted ok but I felt pretty gypped.
Worst food every! Don't go there!Mahalo!!
I ordered the beef chow fun - it was made fresh and it was quite tasty HOWEVER I found a roach cooked in after I was halfway done with it. Needless to say, that was gross, I threw what I had left away and I won't be going back.
