Wow...I dont even know where to begin. The Pukeawe Cottage is AMAZING!!! For the price you pay, its unbelievable! I am very very picky when it comes to finding a place to stay, and of of course our budget. I will spend weeks researching and spend lots of time looking at lots pictures to determine if its a clean place because Im very afraid of bugs. This place is spotless clean! Also the place is very big and homey. There's even a fireplace, a rare thing to find in Hawaii. Cold places in the Big Island would have only a heater, but this place has a heater in each room and a fireplace in the living room. Cant even think of anything this place doesn't have. It's just minutes away from the volcano national park, winery and a golf course. I would definitely recommend this place!

We stayed with friends at Pukeawe Cottage over the weekend and loved it. Well-appointed with thoughtful amenities, washer / dryer full kitchen, stocked with teas, coffee, etc. Breakfast was fresh, hot and delicious. We'll be going back with family.

Drove two plus hours only to find that I wasn't going to be staying here after all. I mentioned that I was going to be night diving and dropping in late. I was told that there would be an envelope with a key in it waiting for me. Instead, I got no phone call, no envelope, no key, and no answering the phone when I arrived. I was looking forward to staying here and breakfast in the morning, but they left me high and dry after a long drive. Still haven't received a call with an explanation. Thanks a bunch.

I'm not above picking a B&B because of the great things said about its breakfast. We'd never been out to the Big Island, so for this first trip I spent a lot of time researching B&Bs. Country Goose had the right price and the right rave reviews about the breakfasts that the proprietress, Joan, cooked up every morning. We had the lovely decorated King Room with private entry ($100/night) and ate until we were stuffed to the max at breakfast. There was always fresh fruit, pancakes or waffles (with fresh whipped cream and strawberries), and sausage. Usually I'm jonesing for lunch by 11:30 a.m., but this breakfast kept me full till 1:00 p.m. Yumm-o.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Country Goose for five days in the Hale Iki cottage during our honey moon. The cottage is located at the end of a short path through the rainforest that opens into a small but beautiful clearing near the front porch of the cottage. Although the nearest house is only 50 feet away it's impossible to see anything through the dense foliage and the place has a wonderful private feel. The entire cabin is built out of oak with huge windows in the bottom floor with drapes that can be lowered at night. Everything, from the decorations to the cast iron stove, give the place a perfect cabin in the woods feel. In a lot of places they make you feel a welcomed guest, here we felt like long lost family. We were greeted with a hug, and given directions to our cabin and recommendations for lots of places for dinner. The next morning we arrived for breakfast where not only did we have lots (and I mean lots) of delicious food, Joann (who bakes the most delicious desserts) sent us off with a variety of breads, cakes, and cookies almost every day. Breakfast each morning consisted of lots of delicious fruit, pancakes or waffles, eggs, some ham or sausages all prepared with a breakfast at grandma's feel. Joann had great suggestions of places to add to our itinerary and stories of some of the sites around the island. The service while booking our travel was top notch, they usually responded to our emails and phone calls within an hour or so, and at most within a day. The price was very reasonable, especially when you consider that the breakfast kept us full enough so that all we usually wanted for lunch was a sandwich. The place was perfect for exploring the whole southern end of the island, from black sand beaches, green sand beaches, Hilo, the lava flows, and countless other sites.

Hale Pukeawe (poo-kee-ah-veh). Very clean, pleasant, attractive cottage. Convenient to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Red-headed Kalij pheasants frequent the yard. Big, good breakfast provided. 113870 Ruby Avenue is the address of the Manager (Joan Earley). The cottage is several miles away, in Pukeawe Circle. Wi-fi. There is no central heating but there are various wraps and wood-burning stove in the cottage, and electric blankets on the beds. Bring sweaters! There are *no* streetlights in Volcano; if you don't have GPS, make sure you have a flashlight (to see street signs and numbers!)

This was my first time to Hawaii, and we stayed for one night at the Country Goose. It's like stepping back in time to my grandmother's house, I couldn't get over how uncanny it was. The owner Joan even looks and acts like my grandmother. Needless to say, it was a great place to stay. I hadn't read any reviews about the breakfast, so I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised by the french toast, sausage, eggs, and nice coffee. I really enjoyed chatting to Joan and the other people staying there over breakfast too. One note, we did have a bit of trouble contacting Joan when we got there (in part our fault), so maybe try to be specific about arrival times. Overall, I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Volcano.
