For us, vacations are just as much about awesome dining experiences as they are about seeing the sites. After reading many reviews I found few foodie type options in Kauai but eventually stumbled upon Kauai Ono. The farm/sea to table is a concept we love and all the ingredients are macro-locally sourced. The 5 courses we superb! We started off with whole prawns with garlic saffron butter, followed by a fresh kale salad, pan seared moonfish with Thai inspired noodles, pulled pork with a purple sweet potato, and a mango dessert to cap the night. You could taste the freshness in every bite. It's BYOB so plan accordingly. They provide ice bins to keep things cool. The servers where very friendly and knowledgeable on each dish. They have limited seatings so reservations are a must. We made ours 2 months in advance when we booked the trip but some of the folks sitting at our communal table made theirs earlier in the week. Earlier reviews mentioned bugs so we pre-sprayed with bug spray. But I'm not sure we needed it as bugs didn't seem to be a problem for us. Thanks Kauai Ono for a memorable night! Best of luck to you all and we hope to see you next time we're on the island.

Fantastic dining experience. We love the farm/sea to table concept and the fact they avoid ingredients not native to the island. Table was communal. It seems everybody there was from California, and folks were generous sharing their wine (next time we'd bring some bubbly, too). Dishes are relatively simple and straight-forward. Chef Justin began the evening with his philosophy, and each course was fully explained. Several of us lingered afterwards to chat. Dining is outdoors, under a tent. Gnats were a bit of an issue before the sun went down, but we were outdoors on a tropical island (we don't have many of those in Ohio and we still get bugs!). You can bring your own wine, or have it brought over from the wine shop in Princeville. You won't know the menu ahead of time (which is part of the charm) so select your wine accordingly. Servers were friendly, prompt, and unobtrusive. They prefer cash, and most folks complied with that. Overall, a great experience that is well worth doing.

Justin Kauai Ono is the mad scientist of food. The bottom line is that his food is incredibly tasty. We hired Justin to cater our 70-person wedding because we were looking for something different from the predictable wedding food or hotel food. He is a well-trained chef with a diverse background and his inventive, creative dishes reflect this. We discussed a general layout for the menu far in advance, but trusted Justin to roll with our themes based on what was in season and locally available at the time of our wedding. We trusted that whatever he created would be delicious and well thought out, and Justin totally nailed it! Every dish he made from the apps to the mains was incredible, and we had so many high compliments from our guests about the deliciousness of food, the simple yet elegant presentation, and the refreshing variety. In terms of customer service, Justin delivered exactly as promised. He showed up on time, the food rolled out in perfect succession at the right moments, and there were no surprises with the bill. We plan to hire Justin for any future catering needs while in Kauai.

The Kailua pig is incredible. We tried the pineapple sweet tea and it tasted exactly as it sounds. Overall I would recommend this for a great Hawaiian plate lunch. Be sure to stop at the wishing well for shaved ice afterwards (it is the best in the north shore).

A wonderful dining experience on the North Shore, Hanalei, Kauai. 5 course meal, very unique, food is like art when it is delivered to the table and it is truly delicious. Our meal included a seared ono, pulled pork dish, two different salads, and a liquid chocolate dessert. The chef also accommodated for one of our guests who could not eat fish. Minus 1 star = location not very nice on the grass next to several parking lots and the main traffic road in Hanalei (doesn't fit the quality of the meal), long walk to the bathroom, we were also unexpectedly cold and there were no heat lamps. Overall a very nice food experience and I would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely meal here last week in the new Princeville location. Loved the rustic vibe of the tables and the pretty, natural decor under an open tent. The food was delicious. Simple, fresh, interesting flavors. We were perfectly full, but not stuffed afterward. This is an experience not to miss in Kauai. We left our kid with the grandparents for this evening, and I was glad. While he would have eaten most of the courses, it's was definitely a more adult scene. They prefer cash, but take credit cards. The mosquitoes here after a rainy afternoon were utterly unrelenting. We put on 15% Deet and still got eaten alive. If I had to do it over, I'd wear long pants and spray myself with stronger bug spray.

The most unique dining experience we've ever had at Kaua'i Ono. We called Justin for a reservation and we were lucky enough to get the last two spots. He was very attentive and accommodating, immediately asking if there were any food restrictions that the chef needed to be aware of. He also let the us know that the dinner is BYOB so you can bring your own beer and wine which was awesome. There were ice buckets set up to keep your drinks cold. Water was provided if you didn't bring anything to drink. The setting is entirely unique, there were four big wooden tables with 10 people per table underneath a big white tent on a grass lawn. You are surrounded by nature with a peek at the ocean over the lawn. Food was absolutely amazing. As each course was brought out they would announce what ingredients were in each dish and where those ingredients were sourced from. Our first dish was a local shrimp, which they apologized for being from the "west end" of the island instead of the north shore. The food was incredibly fresh and deliciously prepared. Our second dish was a sweet potato with pork and caramelized onions, third dish a salad, fourth dish a delicious fish in a pork broth and with a macadamia nut pesto. The fifth and final dish was a Mochi rice flour cake with a guava and papaya sauce on top. We ended up having a wonderful time. We met new people at the dinner from all around the world and actually ended up exchanging information with some of them by the end to stay in contact after the dinner. Overall a marvelous experience! We will definitely come back and do it again!

Dinner was delicious and a great chance to taste the local ingredients. The service was great and they took time to explain what each dish was and where the ingredients come from. The food was natural and tasty and the BYOB policy just added to the experience!

Killer concept: the pop-up farm-to-table restaurant, where the kitchen is a custom designed food truck. And Chef Justin made sure to emphasize before the meal that it's about local and authentic, not Michelin stars. But after having the whole experience .., I'm voting for a star, or two. Great concept, great execution!

Ate here last night, first time in new location. Delicious as always, same great staff and loved meeting the people at our table. This is the most unique, delicious experience in Kauai dining. Truly a laid back Kauai Ono feel! Great job Justin, we love it, glad you're back!!! (The dessert was to die for!!)

This was a great find and such a fun night. The food is fantastic and the setting under the tent & candle lights was great. We also love the BYOB program :) if your in the area this is a must go

The other reviews hit the nail on the head. Great food and fun. BYOB Wish we could have dined there more but only open 2 days a week for dinner. The menu changes regularly so expect a pleasant surprise.

Kauai Ono was hands down our favorite dining experience in Kauai. Not only was the food amazing, but the experience was exceptional. My husband and I both love food and we do lots of research before committing to dining somewhere. Especially on vacation, since we want to hit lots of places. So I was a little hesitant given some of the Yelp reviews. I am so glad we went with our gut. It was my birthday and our anniversary and the whole night was perfect. The courses consisted of a Butterfish, ceviche, salad, local beef and a breadfruit churro. All of the portions were nicely sized and impeccably cooked. I really do not understand the criticisms of the amount of food or the quality. It was all fantastic. And the people we met also added to the experience. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation!

Went to Yelp while visiting Princeville and found this gem. Great food, from a truck, with picnic tables, under a tent, BYOB. Seated next to strangers, sharing mosquito repellent, $60 a head, and they prefer cash. If this sounds appealing to you, you have to experience this. No, seriously.

Not going to go on and on here, but this really was a lovely dinner. Chef prepares dishes that feature locally sourced ingredients true to the culinary history of the Islands while at the same time pleasing a modern pallet. Highly recommended.

One of our favorite evenings. Delicious food, great company, and BYOB. Doesn't get much better! The only problem with the evening was that the lights went out mid-meal. The staff quickly responded, and found a solution, but it was a bit too dark. Out of their hands though. They tried! Thank you, and best of luck for the future of good food!

Best dining experience on Kauai, perhaps Hawaii! After first dining at Justin's Kauai Ono a couple of years ago we made sure to score two nights for our vacation this time. The food is terrific and all locally sourced. The location in Princeville was great for us and dining under the big tent was fantastic both in rain and evening sunshine (we had both). It's BYOB without a corkage fee. I love that. We met terrific people both nights. I tell you... Justin not only outshines the dining choices in Kauai but could easily hold his own in Los Angeles. Mahalo Justin, Ann, Darren and Julie. Aloha!

This came as a recommendation from one of the local restaurant owners. First thing to know is that you have to ahead of time by phone or online. Sometimes if there is not room, they can put you on a wait list if someone cancels. Second thing thing to know is bring bug spray! Seriously..the tables are in a park and the bugs really enjoy people. You'll need it to keep your ankles and feet from being swarmed. Third bringing cash is recommended. They do take credit cards but I remember there being an added charge. On to the food. This is a personal chef style dinner using local ingredients. Each course utilized ingredients such a local pork, taro, rice, local fish, etc. It is a preset meal of the chefs design. All the courses in this meal were flawless. The portions were perfect. I left the meal feeling full and content...which says a lot as I am a big eater! The price is worth the quality of food you get and the experience.

  • Brski B.

Asian-influenced and locally sourced food is good but overrated and the experience is good but overrated (bring bug spray); overall (including service), I salute the effort and the quality product that they pull out of that truck. But strictly, honestly speaking, the food is not first rate compared to fine dining on the mainland. That might be an unfair comparison, but that's what they're striving for - a funky high end dining experience under the tent with strangers and your own wine. If you're not on a budget, if you enjoy engaging with strangers, I'd recommend the experience as a change of pace; but I would not worry too much if you miss it. 3.3 rounded down. (I'd be surprised if many natives bothered eating here.)

  • Cory S.

Fun experience and good food! Loved the community table experience and the idea of farm to table... The kale was fantastic and I never thought those words would come out of my mouth! **TIP** bring bug spray!!! The mosquitoes are everywhere and my whole table, especially myself, got eaten alive!!

Oh man. This really was the experience of a lifetime. My husband and I came here (like most) because of the 5 star review on Yelp. It's is not an overstatement. One seating dinner. $50. 5 courses. Bring your own drinks. Get ready to drool. The ambiance is amazing in the small glowing white tent with the two long tables. The menu always changes and so do your table companions. Not to be missed!

Solid food. Great tasting menu at $60 a head. Changes with the week, and everything is sourced locally. Best dinner we had during our honeymoon - food and experience wise. Very underground feel with lots of cool people. Make reservations ahead of time, as they book fast and for good reason. The food is fucking awesome.

    (5)
  • Nicole J.

Dined here for the last night of our honeymoon and what a treat! The food was easily the best on Kauai that we experienced - 5 courses of flavorful & interesting dishes. They only have reservations for Wednesday's & Thursday's - if you can grab one do it! Also BYOB & comes with an amazing dessert as part of the 5 courses. Staff was great - super friendly and explained all of the dishes as we went along. If you can get a reservation do not miss this! Tip/ Ps. It is outside so definitely bring or put on some bug spray, same as anywhere else on the island

3 stars for the experience- we met some really fun people at our table during our dinner. 3 stars for the locally sourced food and the heart put into creating an unique dining experience on the island- kind of hard to come by (especially north). But was the food outstanding? Not particularly. Could I have higher expectations given that we are from Austin- the mecca of fine dining from a food truck? Perhaps...but maybe this will only help raise the bar for the Kauai Ono. On our departing day we came across a flyer for a similar dinner concept (except this was paired with wine tastings) at Common Ground. Was bummed to miss out on it as the menu sounded really good. Overall for Kauai Ono- ok...but not the best.

Found this place one morning when we were wondering around Hanalei. Yelp had it listed under caterers, so it didn't show up for my restaurant search. I had the kalua pork breakfast, and my wife had the chorizo burrito. We split a pineapple orange ginger drink. Before I get into the food, it is important to point out that I love kalua-pork-related breakfast dishes. When I'm not in Hawaii, I make a batch of the pork about once a month and eat it for a week or so. Crisped up in a frying pan with runny eggs and rice, it is near perfection. Back to Kauai Ono, this dish was excellent. Two rich eggs over perfectly cooked rice with big chunks of smoky pork. Easily the best I've had in Hawaii. My wife's burrito was good too, with great flavor and ingredients. Two big thumbs up on the PO Ginger. The guy running the place, Nick, was very nice. He came out to check on things after we had been eating. I went back after two days for another breakfast. Just as good the second time.

What a waste of money! For $60 per person (wine not included), I would expect to eat a bit more and get better service. Instead you get tiny portions, rushed service, uncomfortable seats... You don't choose what you're eating so it's a hit or miss. Out of the 5 courses, there is only two that we really liked, two that we did not like at all, and one that was just ok. We had much better local quality food at other restaurants on the island (our fav was plantation gardens) for less money.

  • J. M.

We do appreciate great creativity as long as it works. RIGHT??? Yes Justin it worked just fine!!! What does not work for us, is uncomfortable seating and if it's toooooo cold outside. Unfortunately that was why we gave one less star. Several diners don't like wild game at all, and they gave that course away. I think since you don't have choices, they should have all main stream creative courses. Great experience over all.

Being very objective, I'd like to give them 3.5 stars.. and will explain (hate bringing down the reviews but must be honest). We were really looking forward to our dinner even before we went on our trip to Kauai. The experience seemed so unique and special. I'll preface, saying we spent our whole day in the north side (we were staying in the south), hiking most of the day, so we were pretty tired by the time dinner started. Also, the specific evening, it was pouring rain and mosquitos snuck in after the rain stopped, which made for a not so wonderful outdoor dining experience. How was the food? Overall, very well cooked and well seasoned. The chef's do know what they're doing so for that, I would say bravo. The menu was unique to hawaii, serving local fish (ono, butterfish), breadfruit (my first experience) and taro. For that I also praise them. Also fun to be BYOB. So why am I not completely satisfied? So for $50/pp, I expected more food. I'm not even a huge eater, but I expected a more grand experience. Sure I'm being served from a food truck... but if you're going to charge the price of a grand experience, serve a grand experience, right? The salad course, although greens were very organically tasty, was very small and unsatisfying... perhaps some sort of fruit or protein would have elevated it more. I get that simplicity was the point, but it was just too simple. The taro appetizer was unique and complex in that it utilized the taro in various forms, but in the end, the taste was just okay and again, portion was more like an amuse bouche... I find it difficult to advertise a 5 course meal when it's 4 + an amuse. The service was friendly and casual. There was a big table of friends that all came for a fun night out -- for that I felt made for a fun experience overall... a great place for friends to come together, have a fun dinner and BYOB to cap! But again, wish the food delivered on an even higher level. For an island that has few true fine dining experiences, esp something at the level of Kauai Ono, I can see why Kauai ono rides on what it's currently doing, but I would beg to challenge them to elevate their experience even more.

Best meal on Kauai - period. I discovered Kauai Ono's 5-course meal thru Yelp - thank god as I was getting tired of the same restaurants serving the same food. On Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 - the food truck Kauai Ono serves a fabulous meal under the stars, using only local ingredients for $50 - the food rivaled anything you'd see on island (including Kauai Grill). We are foodies and the one thing we miss when on island is a unique dining experience - thank god for Justin Smith! We started out w/ a Poisson Cru (albacore ceviche), followed by a Kilauea Greens salad and Ulucake with Beets and citrus dressing, Wild Boar sausabe with Okinawan sweet potatoe, kale and carmelized onions and finally a flourless chocolate cake with cardamon whipped cream. When you start with absolutely the freshest most delicious ingedients, you don't need to do a lot to it for the flavors to shine through. Part of the charm was being outside under the lovely white tent, enjoying the birds chirping and the sun setting and chatting with our fellow diners. We'll definitely be back and make this one of our regular stops when on island.

We had a fabulous evening all around. Having read some criticism from other reviewers, I must say, "Get a grip!" The team at Kauai Ono does a wonderful job of bringing farm fresh ingredients to life in a very tasty and thoughtful way. You will be sitting outside - so be prepared. To complain about mosquitoes is ridiculous. They provide mason jars for beverages. If you are above drinking wine from a mason jar, bring your own stemware (it is byob so bring your own wine too). Kudos to everyone at Kauai Ono for creating such a special and memorable evening for all of us and our families. Mahalo!

Friends referred us to this weekly tent dinner in Hanalei and you could not go wrong. Fresh local ingredients skillfully prepared into five fabulously delicious courses. This is no dainty five course meal and we were definitely full by the end of the evening. Thanks to our new local friends Matt and Carissa for supplying the guests with bug spray otherwise we would have left eaten ourselves. Worth the drive and worth fighting the bugs. My mouth is watering just thinking of our meal!

My wife and I stayed for 10 days in Hawaii, 3 in Oahu and 7 in Princeville. We ate out every night and ate at some of the island's best restaurants. We both thought hands down that the food that we got from Kauai Ono was our favorite meal and also the best value. We were also fortunate enough to get seated at a really fun table and made friends with our group which only adds to the evening. We like doing supper club type events and Kauai Ono was just fantastic. We will definitely go back and experience Kauai Ono next time we are back in Kauai. Just make sure you bring a good bottle of wine, some bug spray and a good attitude and have fun!

The mrs. and I lucked out and snagged one of the last reservations for July (they were booked out until late august when we did). Here is what we had: Fried cassava with ti leaf and cilantro on top and coconut milk on the bottom Citrus kale salad topped with WAlu and Mac nut crumble. Mixed greens Kauai beef brisket topped with sweet potato and an "indo" sauce with kefir lime. Butter mochi with a banana crisp drizzled with a caramel sauce. OMSL! I don't have enough space to comment on each dish, except to say you need to try it. The only fly in the ointment was the Walu. Those of you know it by another name: ESCOLAR. Me and escolar do NOT get along. I had to try this fish, and it was the best piece of fish I have ever had, hands down.

Kaua'i Ono Mahalo Nui loa. This was our second adventure to this awesome one of a kind dining experience and, again, it was AWESOME! The menu brilliant using local organic produce and interesting combinations. The ambiance is so much fun, dining with what becomes new friends sharing story. Love it. Mahalo and until next time. Blessings, Anne and Dan Ross (once a year locals)!

Absolutely amazing meal. 5 courses of brilliant cooking and locally sourced ingredients. Great atmosphere and BYOB. Met some amazing people at our table and the chef came tableside to describe every course and where it came from. Wish we could go every night for the rest of our trip.

This was such an incredibly pleasant surprise to our night. We had planned to go to a restaurant down the block, but while walking past Kauai Ono we thought we'd ask what the deal was and if we coud sneak in. And we could! Everything was absolutely divine. Plus you can't beat a 5 course meal for $50 that's perfectly cooked and fresh! All the food is locally sourced, and you get to meet some really awesome people since you're seated at a six person picnic table. This is a hands down must do while in Kauai. Oh! And it's BYOB! (it just get's better!)

Great tacos! Lightly crispy corn tortilla shell, a lot of meat/fish, not too heavy but filling! Fish is grilled and bigger pieces than average taco portions. The pork is awesome! The optional sauces are also very good. And you can eat comfortably under a beautiful Avocado Tree! Find it on the way to downtown Hanalei, on the right past the Kayak rental place and before Tropical Taco (which is overpriced or what you get). Enjoy!

Hands down after two trips to Kauai his is easily the best meal you can find. Going further, the best meal I have had in a very long time! The quality you get in this 5 course meal is incredible and you really cannot ask for a better price. Everything is fresh, local, and quality. BYOB is a plus (especially since the liquor store in Hanalei is just a few steps away. The food was incredible, the service was friendly and informative they took the time to answer our many questions regarding the food that was being served. The dining experience is really unique and stands apart from the rest of the Island. We were seated on a bench at a picnic table and sitting next to other diners (in our case other couples there on vacation) and really enjoyed ourselves and the new, friendly, and interesting people we had the opportunity to meet. Overall Kauai Ono is a very unique, fun, and fantastic experience. You won't find better food, you will get quality service, and have the chance to try something new and meet new people. The only thing we regret, is not doing this twice!

It is good to see a new, good inexpensive place to eat in Hanalei. The kalua pork breakfast was supper yummy. The chocolate chip cookies were mouth-watering and melted in our mouths. The chef was also a really nice guy. It wasn't too busy when we showed up and the he spent several minutes talking to us about the food and his travels. If you don't want the fruit juices that they serve, walk about 100ft down the road to the liquor store and buy some drinks while your food is being prepared.

Delicious. I had Kalua pork with cabbage. Excellent- smoky and flavorful, and not as salty or fatty as it usually is elsewhere. Very well done, fresh local food. Cute dog outside too!

My husband and I were so lucky to find this experience when we were staying in Princeville. Chef Justin hosts his dinner just 2x week on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30. Dinner is a five course pre fix menu created with fresh ingredients from the local farmers market. It is prepared in a gourmet food truck and served under a great white tent in a grassy lot next to the Quicksilver shop in Hanalei. It is BYOB and there's a liquor store right buy with a good wine selection. Tables are rustic and communal so it's a great way to meet folks. The service is great as well. Now the food... Incredible! Wonderful combinations of flavors that are inique and complementary together. From the website: - breadfruit latke + roasted beets/citrus + herbs + garlic oil - cabbage/mustard greens + seared ono + wasabi macnut crumble - hearty local greens + ginger vinaigrette + coconut sprout - north shore beef brisket + orange sweet potato + pickled mango & coriander seeds - sweetened beet ju + vanilla ice cream + turmeric oil + fennel frond Everything was wonderful, I was very skeptical about the ice cream but it was so decilious! If you are in Kauai on a Wed/Thursday you need to go. They only seat about 20 so get your reservations in advance.

Best meal on the island. We have eaten at all of the highest rated places, and some of the not-so-highly rated places over the four visits to Kauai. I loved the outdoor, communal setting. We met interesting people and had a great feast. The meal is divided into five courses, and includes all locally sourced ingredients. There is no menu, as the chef creates the a custom menu with fresh and seasonal ingredients. The first course was a incredible cup of freshly caught ono fish in a coconut curry sauce that was light and tasty finishing with a bit of acid (lime?) The second course was a piece of lightly fried breadfruit with crumbled goat cheese, oranges and beets. This was the first time that I have tried breadfruit. The dish tasted like a fresh and light version of a potato latke. The next course was a standard salad made up of an arugula mix with a (poppy seed?) vinaigrette. The main course was a braised Kailua pig with pickled mango, shaved fennel, kale, and a fingerling sweet potato. The pig was tender and juicy, only requiring a fork to eat. Desert was a rich and decadent chocolate cake, served witha dollop of whipped cream and sweet pickled mango. It is surprising that a meal of this quality comes from a food truck (albeit a fully decked out high quality food truck). The food quality compares favorably to some of the best restaurants in the biggest cities, but this meal and experience can only exist on Kaua'i.

A very unique and fun night with good food - so five stars no question. The price has gone up to $60 and for that price the food was very good but the portions were a bit small as noted by others. This might be due to the size of the crowd - we expected 20 diners and there were twice that - 4 tables of 10 - so the small portions may be an anomaly. We had ahi, ono and a pork dish and all were very tasty. I also loved the kale salad - it was so yummy! Dessert was a mochi cake - really nice, light and delicious. The BYOB factor made it lots of fun - we took a homemade sangria spiced up with jalapeños and it was perfect! It poured rain at one point making our candlelight dinner under the tent even more memorable. We'd recommend the evening and felt the cost was very well worth the overall experience.

What a find! This place is everything good about food. Simply prepared, fresh, delicious. Get a pork plate with egg, or the amazing pulled pork tacos. Not only that it's fast, cheap and the guys who run it are very friendly. When in hanelei skip the crappy over-priced tourist traps and support these two guys in their van!

Go for breakfast or lunch. The truck has comfortable outdoor seating if you wish to stay and enjoy your meal. Gourmet tacos with pulled pork, wild boar, and ahi tuna; fresh fruit smoothies; and homemade chocolate chip cookies if you're lucky. Savory flavors you'll never forget. My mouth is watering as I write this. I developed quite a picky palate after living in San Francisco for nearly 10 years and this is top notch! I would rate this food establishment in the top three of all options on Kauai for quality and it is by far the most affordable of any in its class. The chefs are super kind and make you feel right at home! You must stop here to eat a delicious affordable meal while on Kauai. And once you do, you'll definitely go back for more...guten appetit!

Really special yet relaxed. We brought 2 small kids with us and the owners were very thoughtful about putting us at the end of the picnic table so that we could put out a blanket for them and they could amuse themselves (and not disrupt the other diners, since it's really set up for adults). Happy to say that the kids didn't make a peep (thank you, iPad!) and we got to enjoy a very memorable meal and had great conversation with some lovely Australians seated next to us. Every course was very skillfully prepared, so it's difficult to say which was a highlight for me: taro starter with very unique flavors, butterfish that fell apart in the mouth, spicy greens, beef brisket that was very flavorful and a chocolate cake I didn't have to share with the kids. Heaven. Will definitely recommend to my friends visiting Kauai and go back when I'm next in Kauai.

Got the wild boar plate and it was so good! Very tender and juicy boar and a nice crisp well balanced cabbage salad. This plate was a highlight on the island b/c it's the one plate that has a healthy amount of vegetables. As for the other items, the thai tea is a bit weak in the brew and bit too sweet and the just-ok choco-chip cookie, which was a bit sweet and doughy.

The truck may be a little hard to spot from the road, but the address points to the right place. We had the pork tacos and the juice here. Everything was delicious. We meant to come back the next day but didn't get a chance to! Greetings from NYC!

Tried the butterfish tacos which came with some cabbage inside and nori sprinkled on top. Very juicy and flavorful. Surprised at how juicy the fish was. My girlfriend also tried the spicy pulled pork taco which laid on top of cabbage and was seasoned and soaking in chili lime adobo and sprinkled with feta cheese. Pretty good, nicely seasoned, but I preferred the butterfish.

I'm not sure if my expectations were too high based on reviews or whether the menu on the night wasn't 100% to my taste, but I was a little underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, the food was good and the experience was unique, but I just felt like something was missing. If I remember correctly, our 5 courses consisted of: - Breadfruit, beets and star fruit. - Shredded Beef brisket, sweet potato, - Local green salad and vinaigrette. - Butter Fish. - Flour-less Chocolate Cake Courses 1, 4 and 5 were great, but for my taste the salad was too plain (an extra 'something' in addition to the greens would have transformed the dish) and the beef brisket, whilst good in it's own right didn't really pair well with the other plates. For an experience advertised as "farm to table" I also expected a little more on the simply prepared fresh vegetable front, but maybe that's not possible given what is available on Kauai. I would still recommend this restaurant, but don't get carried away by all the 5 star reviews given you might not be entirely sure what menu you will be getting on the night you chose to dine.

We stumbled across this truck as we drove by. The sign for a breakfast tamale sounded interesting. And it was amazing. A deconstructed tamale, with pulled pork, poached egg and cheese. While this may not be what most people consider a restaurant, as it is a truck with outdoor seating, it was definitely one of our best meals in Kauai. Even the pineapple orange ginger drink knocked our socks off. It was so good, we rushed down the next morning on our way to the airport for another breakfast. Highly recommended. May even be worth another trip to the island for another breakfast here!

This was a very nice find. Not fancy, just good food. Picture 2 rows of picnic benches under a Camelot tent with mason jars and silverware in black linen. First course smoked Ebi, second course green salad with red and yellow beets and goat cheese, third course farmers market fresh corn on the cob with butter and chimichury sauce, fourth course pulled pork over purple sweet potatoes, last but not least flour less chocolate cake with mountain apple chunks and vanilla ice cream. BYOB and they will supply a bucket of ice for all to share. All this for $50 per person! 1st class service servers and all done out of a spotless food truck. Make your reservations well ahead because this spot is no longer a secret ! Fun atmosphere to meet new people and enjoy a different style of dinner. The menu changes daily depending on what's fresh at the farmer's markets. Let them know ahead if you have special dietary needs. Then just set back and enjoy!

We hired Justin to cater a private dinner for 14 at our rental home while we were on the island. With minimal discussion we gave free reign to Justin to create a multicourse dinner for our group. The food was phenomenal and the service of Justin and Anna was impeccable. they easily adjusted to the pace and schedule of our evening and left the kitchen spotless on their way out. The evenings menu was similar to those posed on his FFF dinners which should parallel our experience that evening at our home. Can't say enough about the quality of the food - perfect in every way.

Good guys making great food! We found them on our drive to the north end of the Island and I'm glad we stopped by for a taste. We had the pork tacos and with the tangy salsa it made a great tasty bite! Good luck to the chef's of this place as we enjoyed every bite!

Wow! My wife and I were just walking around Hanalei, and we saw the gleaming white food truck with a girl painted on the side who was flying a kite. No wait, that's a refrigerator on the end of that string! And in the middle on the bottom was a chicken looking at an egg in a frying pan. How awesome is that logo? We simply had to stop. We weren't all that hungry, but we got two iced coffees and two pulled pork tacos. I've had many pulled pork sandwiches before, but whatever ambrosia of goodness these were steeped in blew my mind. They included a bit of shaved cabbage on the bottom for crunch, and some goat cheese (I think) on top for creaminess. However, the pork was the star, and there was a lot of it in the corn tortillas. Simply divine!

Omg. I'm really sad that I only went here once. So good, and the guy who runs it is cool.

We came for breakfast and had the chorizo burrito. The burrito was great, especially with the "awesome" sauce. It had plenty of scrambled eggs in it that were light and fluffy. I wish there was just a bit more chorizo in it. The portion size was generous for one person but not big enough to share. The one bad thing was that it was pretty expensive for a breakfast burrito at $10. They have tasty juices as well. The ginger orange passion fruit juice was delicious.

We went back on our last day for the pork and two Thai Iced Teas (did not want to share one this time) Wow! So flavorful and yummy! These guys do it right. Thanks again for some of the best food we had on Kauai.

The previous reviewers got it right: this place is amazing. FINALLY some variety in the breakfast category. I don't know how many times I've wished morning spots would branch out from their tired categories of coffee shop, smoothie shack, or greasy spoon. The owner Justin (is he from San Diego? I thought he was Moroccan or something)...know he used to chef it up in Spain, maybe even with a michelin star? (I apparently wasn't paying enough attention. Pine Trees was working and I was distracted.) Anyhow they've got the right vision for the evolution of North shore cuisine. Bringing a much needed balance of fresh fruit, herb, and veggie flavors to the traditional like Kalua Pork and short ribs. I've had their pork dish several times, always with a different little twist and it's awesome. Highly recommended.

After a week in the North shore of Kauai, we determined that a good breakfast was difficult to come by, until on our last day we found Kauai Ono. Two San Diego transplants just opened this food trailer and can cook up a storm. I had kahlua pork w/ egg over brown rice and my gf had the short rib grilled cheese with pickled onion and coriander. Both were amazing. We randomly stumbled across the truck so not sure if they are restricted signage-wise, but with that kind of grub, it will only be a matter of time before people start lining up. It's on Kuhio Hwy 560 between the Roxy/Qucksilver store and the massage spot. Big white truck w/ Banksy inspired graphics. Give em a try. You won't be disappointed.

We stopped here as it was on my list of food stops on a recent trip. I was a little reserved on my expectations because there was so many 4-5 star ratings. I asked what's best on the menu today and got a "everything" reply. Well we had the pulled port tacos and the butterfish? wrap and strawberry lemonade......BEST MEAL on the whole trip!!!!! We talked with the owner a few minutes at the table and told him he will get a great rating!!!! Great job guys and we will be by next trip!!

This entire experience was amazing. Food from local farmers, whatever was in season. So fresh and prepared with thought and love! The courses were spread out so you can enjoy dinner conversation and your meal. Such a great time, glad we reserved this weeks in advance. This is must stop if in kauai!

Out of this world! The breakfast burrito is to die for and the fish tacos delicate and delectable. Be sure to try the hot sauce. Two big picnic tables out in front with a view if the mountains behind you and a bunch of friendly roosters meandering about add to the atmosphere. The guy who runs the truck is super sweet too. Also, gluten-free friendly!

Great stuff! We went to Kauai Ono twice last week and both times it was fantastic. We tried the Opah Wrap and tacos, as well as the Japanese Ahi. The wraps were simple and delicious. WIth plenty of fish, they also comes with brown rice, cabbage and a terrific sauce. Just perfect. So much better than an overpriced meal of macadamia encrusted something or other with pineapple-mango salsa. This is the real thing. My only criticism is the $5 lemonade. Seems a bit pricey (better to get a lemonade from Wishing Well Shave Ice next door if it's open). But overall I could eat there every day of the week. Really nice guys too.

Awesome spicy pulled pork tacos...As another reviewer pointed out, it is a little difficult to spot from the road as the truck is parked behind a big Avocado tree but the address points to the right place. The salad was also great. We found the place just the day before we were leaving the island, unfortunately. So couldn't go back there to try other tacos.

Sorry Pat's and Red Hot Mama's, this is the BEST place on the North Shore to grab lunch (or breakfast or even an early dinner!). I think their hours right now are Weds-Sunday 9-6 (or 4... can't remember). Loved the Thai Iced tea (not too sweet) and the Tamale (with great tasting pork and eggplant). My dad got the grilled cheese and oatmeal pancakes and he raved about both. The guys that work there are also really nice. Go check it out if you want great, delicious, gourmet food!

We were in Tropical Taco but decided the food looked less than desirable. On the way to our car parked in back we saw the truck for Kauai Ono so decided to check it out. It was fabulous. Had both their Ahi seared tacos and pulled pork tacos. The Ahi was seared perfectly for tacos and the hunks of Ahi were delicious. The pulled port was the best we've had on the island, in or out of tacos. The pulled pork ones come with cojito cheese, cilantro and little lime. The Ahi ones come more with an Asian cabbage blend. FANTASTIC Be sure to add some of the delicious homemade hot sauce to your tacos. If you ask nicely, they might even have some to spare to take home (great with pizza). I have no idea why this place didn't come up on our taco search on Yelp!. Hope that gets fixed soon because Yelpers are missing out on some great tacos. Yes Pat's has great tacos too but completely different - flavors so enjoy both; these have a fresher flavor and Pat's more traditional. Love them tacos for beach lunch.

Swung by for a late lunch based on the sickie reviews. This place is legit - Best pork tacos I've ever had. Unbelievably juicy and topped with the most incredible "secret" mild-hot sauce. The sauce is key. Spicy, but not so much to overwhelm the pork deliciousness. They (Nick) actually stayed open later than usual because a friend of ours had told him that we were coming. Upon arrival (15m later) he literally had 2 warm, pulled-pork tacos waiting for us. Talk to Nick, he's super friendly, will tell you anything you want to know about the island, incl. chill beach spots and great breaks. Thanks Nick! Until next time!

My family and I went there the other day and it was great! I had the kalua pork plate which was topped with 2 fried eggs and it was absolutely delicious! With a little hot sauce on top, it is great. The owner and cook was very nice and even came out of the truck to ask how we were doing and offered us some of his homemade chocolate cookies that literally just melted in my mouth. I also had some of the pork tacos which were pretty delicious, my only complaint is that the pork is drenched in the hot sauce. Despite this, I definitely plan on coming back.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The food at this little spot is fantastic. The chef (Nick) knows his chow. I'm sure he'll have a full-blown restaurant someday. In the meantime, you can sample his work for cheap at this little spot on Hwy 560. My wife and I were there for our honeymoon. The chef showed us the tree he picks starfruit from to use in the sauces. Excellent food and service. Fond memories of Kauai Ono 560.

Best food I've ever had on the North Shore! This place is fantastic! I had the seared ahi with pineapple salsa, Thai iced tea and a still-warm chocolate chip cookie, and it was truly delicious. The chef, Nick, is a great guy as wel as an awesome chef. Very friendly and welcoming. For the rest of my vacation I'll be going back every day they're open.

I would give Kauai Ono more stars if I could. Went there for the first time today and will be back many times in the next 2 weeks of our trip this year. Going to Kilauea Fish Market for dinner tonight--used to be my favorite on the North Shore (the only place on Kauai....) and I still love it but I think I have a new favorite. Can't understand the people who line up at Bubba's--they are missing out on so much.

Awesome place! Even the Thai ice tea was unusually good. We are from the Bay Area and are accustomed to fine, interesting food and this food is a stand out. This is NOT average beach fare. This place is hard to spot, but make the effort!

The breakfast of the kahlula pork brown rice and fried eggs is the perfect way to start the day off. along with chai or lemonade awesome been there three times it is filling but does not leave you feeling gross. one of the best places i have eaten on this trip. cant wait to try more. also had the pancakes and eggs and bacon really good. you will get a better meal here than the Wake Up Cafe for the same price the quality of food was a way higher quality. and it is much quicker than any other place. the food just makes you feel happy only two places have ever made me feel like that. Crescent Cafe Mcminnville OR, and Whisk And Ladle San Diego. To have a chef of this quality here is awesome and once you try him you will be hooked.

Great breakfast! Oatmeal pancakes with banana and almonds. Real maple syrup ( sounds like a forgone conclusion, but it's not in Kauai). Outstanding coffee. Seek it out - well worth the visit.

Triple YUM! Went 3 times while in Kauai. Twice for lunch and once for breakfast. The pork tacos are excellent. Also tried the fish taco and the Churizo tacos. All delicious with different sauces and flavors to make them all stand out while eating them one right after the other. I recommend getting the two taco deal and getting a pork and fish, or a pork and churizo. The breakfast was just as insane. You MUST try their oatmeal pancakes (they are the thick kind and rather heavy, but not while chewing, just in your tummy - everyone knows oatmeal expands). They have great texture with the oatmeal, and they put bananas and almonds on top if you want them, but the cakes themselves are worthy. My husband got the pork, eggs, and brown rice (we always split everything of course), and it was my favorite breakfast aside from the crazy expensive brunch at the St. Regis. If you don't like cilantro ask for it without, but to me it just rocked with it. Will definitely be going back.
