The drive through service here is HORRIBLE. I've been here twice since being on vacation over from Oahu, our home island. We waited in line literally 30 minutes each time. The first time there were four people ahead of us and the last time there were three cars ahead of us. The inside was not busy during these times. The food was hot and correct each time. I suggest going inside because the drive through wait time is just horrible.

If I could give 0 stars I would. First off, the thermostat was set at 81! Gross!!! The drive thru was closed down. There were literally 3 workers. There was a cashier and 2 cooks. For a "fast food" place we waited about 20 minutes for our food that was ordered to go. On top of that, the restaurant looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Near the soda fountain it smelled of mildew. This place was gross. I understand that it's fast food and may not be as kept up, but come on.

Horrible service. I sat in the drive through for 45 minutes and once u got my food it was wrong. I went in to fix it but they said they were out of certain things and gave me what they could. Why not tell me that?! Since I'm the one paying for it.

Consistent for Taco Bell but the drive through SUCKS...I mean besides typical drive through angst. Typical wait is a minimum of 20 minutes...my teenager is driving and we have been in the drive through 30 minutes and are still a car behind getting our order. RIDICULOUS! I keep giving you the benefit of the doubt but you continue to fail me Taco Bell Kailua Kona. This is my last drive through visit. Maybe I should complain to the corporate office. PLEASE just go in if you want actual FAST food.

Drive thru is SO slow. Have never waited less than 20 min regardless of how many cars are in line. Food order is often off, but not enough to turn around and go back!

  • Roshni S.

The service was quick and they were friendly. It's like any standard Taco Bell.. Didn't see the hawaiian flare except the Taco Bell Hawaii on the cups and mahalo on the trash bins but didn't look too hard. I like Taco Bell anywhere so of course I was satisfied with the food and the price was low as always. The soda was a little funny tasting prob not the right combo of syrup but no big deal. Overall , great experience before heading to the airport since I heard they had slim to no food options there.

The slowest Taco Bell ever!!! They also often forget special requests like no onions or sauce. I waited I. The drive through for 20min with 4 cars in front of me. They need a new manager or more training

  • Michael T.

I am not lying - I waited 48 - yes FORTY EIGHT minutes from the time I entered the drive through line to the minute I received my order. There were only 9 cars ahead of me but that is how slow your restaurant in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii is. It was completely unacceptable. I could've driven all the way home to Waikoloa in that time period. I could not get out once I was in the line. I guess you were short handed that night, I could only see one drive through worker, one cashier in the front and two order makers making food. You were very busy. If that's the case - SHUT DOWN THE DRIVE THROUGH. I will never go to this Taco Bell again, and hesitate to visit any other Taco Bell. Not even an I'm sorry or an apology when I got to the speaker or got my order. Completely unacceptable.

    (1)
  • Amanda D.

They forget special requests like no ice in the drink, or "please melt the cheese in the tortilla" All of the quesadillas that I ordered over a period of three days (it's all mg toddler will eat) were a cold tortilla with shredded, unmelted cheese. Ugh.

Came here on a Wednesday night because the boyfriend had mad munchies at 10pm. Taco Bell's restaurant-portion was closed, but I was pleasently surprised to see the drive thru still open! Woohoo! May the good Lord bless after hour drive-thru windows. Twelve tacos, please!

A lot slower service than the standard taco bell. Not just compared to the mainland even hilo is way faster. Also portions are off and the don't grill the Flatbread like they're supposed to for Gordian crunches. Very doughy gross. Fairly decent manners and avg cleanliness. This is coming from someone who managed at a taco bell that net profited 1.2mil per yr. Drive times from window to leaving per car should be no longer than 60 sec and 30 to 45 sec is target

Like any other Taco Bell on the mainland. Came here for a quick snack while heading from the airport to my hotel. Like the previous post, basically everything is the same except a tad Hawaiian flare here and there, BUT when I went they had specials on a select few items with kahlua pork. I got a nacho bellgrande with the kahlua pork, and it was pretty tasty. It had the same regular nacho stuff but the pork instead of the ground beef. To bad we never have anything cool like that. Everything else tasted like traditional Taco Bell food, and was just what I wanted at that time. The drive through was fast, staff was friendly and actual with our order the lady suggested to make it a combo and it would be cheaper, so that was very nice. When getting the food, when handing it to us the girl was able to tell us what was in each bag and what drinks were being handed to us (cup lids only have two choices on top: diet, other) Prices of the combos seem just a tad higher but over all it was about the same price as back home. The way I see it slightly higher base price here but with lower tax (4ish%), and at home it's just a slightly less base price but about double the tax(8ish% in CA). All in all if you aren't an adventures eater here in Kona, this along with the other traditional fast foods will be your life saver, however just remember that even though it's fast food, their prices are a little more than on the mainland.

This place is just like the Taco Bells in California except the cups say "Taco Bell Hawaii" and the trashcan says "Mahalo". The food was good, our order came out quick, staff was friendly, place was clean, and there was plenty of parking. This is a great place for a quick, inexpensive bite.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
