Summary: picturesque setting right on the pond with an ocean view (if you're seated away from the staircase), pretty good quality food and a relaxing atmosphere. You're paying $$$ for the amazing ambiance, but the fresh-squeezed juice definitely helps. Some reviewers report that the breakfast buffet is included with their room package here at the Grand Hyatt... lucky them. We took a leisurely morning beach walk from our condo and arrived around 10:30 with the intention of filling up on beautiful views and unlimited fresh-squeezed juice / coffee / food as brunch. No, it's not cheap, but what kind of gourmet food experience in Hawaii really is? Included in the breakfast buffet are fresh-squeezed pineapple, passionfruit and orange juices, hot coffee, a variety of basic breakfast staples (breads, pastries, cereal, etc) and a few specialty items, like omelettes made-to-order, breakfast potatoes, and more. But when you factor in the tranquil view on the patio, or if you're lucky enough to get an ocean view, the $30 breakfast buffet is a nice splurge. In our family of five, 3 decided to go with the breakfast buffet, while husband ordered the Local Inspired Eggs Benedict (SUPER fresh mahi mahi) and I went for the Kalua Pork Hash. We were both pleasantly surprised with the freshness of the ingredients, and the portion sizes were decently generous. Our breakfast entrees were ~$20 each. Our server was prompt and friendly. He was sweating, but kind, which suggested to me that he was really putting effort into quick (unusual for Hawaii) service, which we all really appreciated. AND he didn't say a word, when we non-buffet eaters helped ourselves to our buffet eating family members' juices, coffees and pastries. Which we was highly highly appreciated. MAKE SURE YOU TRY THE CHOCOLATE DOUGHNUT HOLES! They are replaced often, so get them while they're fresh. I encourage you to try as many pastries as possible, since many of them were quite quite good. I saw some, what looked to be, breakfast regulars keeping it simple with make-your-own yogurt parfaits and eggs and toast. They also have the cutest (and tastiest!) teeny tiny jam jars: guava strawberry is DA BEST! 4 stars because... it was the best breakfast on the island that we had, but it's still nothing stellar compared to the kinds of breakfasts we've had vacationing elsewhere.

I'm not a buffet person whatsoever. In fact I shy away from ever visiting that kind of restaurant. But our vacation package included breakfast. Let me just say, this spot changed my opinion entirely. From the smoked salmon to the humbolt fog blue cheese. To the coconut peanut butter and the dozens of steel cut oatmeal toppings, this was a buffet unlike any other. Try the breakfast sausage--it has bitter orange or mango in it. Super good. Also at the pancake station they offer syrup along with coconut syrup: try it--it's amazing if you like coconut! Splurged and even tried the mango coffee cake--another hit with our family. Overall, I am beyond happy that we have breakfast included in our stay now. View is incredible and the service is personable and prompt. And there's even swans cruising by to occupy your little ones. Great spot!!

Was fairly disappointed with this place. For a Hyatt it was subpar. The $30+ per person buffet was pretty minimal and the service really poor. The clincher was when I saw one of the staff pick up tongs that had fallen on the floor and put them back of the serving table. I pointed it out to our server and she didn't seem terribly concerned. She did at least have them replaced while I was standing watching. Food choices were limited and really just ok.

The food here is ok. Nothing special, but not bad either. My fiancé and I were staying at the Hyatt and noticed that most of the restaurants here serve the same food. This is a convenient place for breakfast. The portions were relatively large so we shared. Lunch is of decent value, since they offer 20% off for Hyatt Gold Passport members. The place is open air, which is nice in Hawaii. It also means it's filled with birds, but that's ok. Again, the food is decent but nothing memorable.

Loved the casual breakfast. Lots of options for adults and kids. Great service! Always encouraging you to take food for later. Something for everyone.

We have had breakfast here everyday, during out stay at the Grand Hyatt. The staff is absolutely wonderful: friendly and attentive. The food is very good. You can choose what you'd like from the buffet, or order off of the menu. What do they have you ask? Well, here are some of the items that are available for your morning breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, made-to-order omelets, toast, muffins, cereals, granola, oatmeal, fresh fruit, fresh juice, coffee, tea, milk, huevos rancheros, frittatas (flavors vary on a rotating basis), eggs benedict, and so many other delectable items. Is this worth the price - YES!!! Yes, it's currently $31 per person, but I think it's so nice, knowing that at least, you have breakfast for each day, taken care of. Lunch, when you are out and about, you have to figure out for yourself. Interior - clean, open, definitely relaxing. There is a small pond with koi and swans, that you can gaze upon, right outside next to the tables. If you can, ask for a table "outside," by the pond, and small waterfall. Thanks Ilima Terrace, for starting each of our days, on a good note, and a full tummy! :)

The first impression of this restaurant (for room service late at night) was not splendid. The girl on the phone tried to tell me that a GF oatmeal wasn't available until I referenced 3 times to the menu I was looking at. BF ordered a burger. 2 minutes later, I got a call that the oatmeal wasn't even in stock. I ended up canceling my entire order. We had breakfast there one morning, bf had the buffet. He really liked it however the oatmeal was "runny". I ordered the gf pancakes and scrambled eggs. The server was nice enough to not make order a separate eggs plate. She offered to let me get eggs from the buffet. I was concerned about contamination (people suck at buffets) so she grabbed some eggs from the back that hadn't been put out for the people to screw up. The pancakes were ok. I've had better GF pancakes but I'm not complaining, gf pancakes, are carb-y goodness. We had salads there another day. There were ok but nothing to rave about. We were hungry 2 hours later. Another day we had lunch. I had the primavera with chicken and he had a pasta dish with short-ribs. Pretty good. Overall I think the menu was slightly limiting for gf but that's normal I guess.

Stopped in for a late afternoon drink & snack. No lines, almost nobody. Can see why lines at breakfast though. Great ocean view, pond in front, high prices though. $4 for a soda sets the tone. If you're looking for a special place to eat though and have $$, this is a nice choice.

Amazing breakfast buffet. The pancakes with Mac nuts and chocolate chips are to die for. We probably wouldn't normally spend this much in breakfast but it was included in our hotel package, and I'm glad it was.

Lovely setting, attentive service and varied menu boosts the three star food to a four star rating. Choose your own ingredient salads a plus at lunch, balanced by hotel restaurant price point. If you're pampering yourself at the onsite Anara Spa and want a pleasant lunch, this is your spot.

Yes its expensive, but if you get a package deal with your room its great! You can also order a la carte and that usually helps with the price! You also pay for the view which is very picturesque with a pond filled with swans and fish right next to you. Make sure to ask for a table near the pond :) The service is good, sometimes the waitress is busy so you might have to wait a little bit, but overall good service. The food here was also very good but I don't know if I would pay for the buffet if it wasn't included in my room rate. For that price I would rather order a la carte or just go somewhere else. If you're staying at the Hyatt you should eat here at least once, the quiet and beautiful definitely adds to the "vacation" tropical paradise feeling. Warning: Look out for the birds!! If you're sitting a little outside don't leave your food unattended....the birds will get to it!! So you gotta have someone sitting there.....everybody can't leave the table at once :-O

Aloha Kakahiaka. Pricey breakfast buffet at ~$30, but the view is gorgeous if you're seated somewhere nice. The sun could be annoying, but we sat in the shadow of one of the columns so breakfast was actually enjoyable. There are birds flying around, which is kinda cool at first, but then it gets annoying when you forget and aren't paying attention when they swoop down to and attempt to steal food. Omelet station is great and I LOVE the egg benedict. There's a variety of juices and fruits that make it unique. But other than that, this is your pretty standard hotel breakfast, with a view. One visit is good enough. (Also I have no idea where to put a comment for open-air lounge, so I'll do it here because I'm guessing you're gonna visit that too. The menu is the same as Stevenson's Library). We loved the Kauai Macchiato Tart. The lounge closes at 8:30pm and usually before that, there's live (local) entertainment that's lovely. -- PHOTO: yelp.com/biz_photos/ilim…

Good food but expensive and very slow service. The view is great if you get a table on the edge, but just so-so on the inner tables. If you are fortunate to get a table with a view, it is worth be price of admission. The convenience of eating down the hall from where you stay is a plus as well. The menu is the standard grand hyatt Kauai menu with the bonus of a make your own salad, which I enjoyed.

Great breakfast buffet. Price is a bit steep at $30 but quality is very good and the setting overlooking the ocean and koi pond is very tranquil. Staff was very friendly and always smiling... always a nice plus while on vacation.

Nice view, crap food for a hotel this nice and this expensive.. I expected a Sunday brunch like Halekulani's on Oahu where I live but not even close.. I'd recommend Kalaheo Coffee and Cafe, local, delicious, and quaint.. About 15 minutes drive away or even L iving Foods right up the street

Was staying at the grand Hyatt for my holiday so this restaurant was a logical choice. Had the omelette with mushrooms, spinach, onions, peppers and ham. It is served with hash brown stack and I ordered a side of bacon. All that plus a Cappucino came to $40+ dollars. That is pretty steep for breakfast, but the food was good, the service was excellent and the view is amazing. I don't think you need to go out of your way to eat here if you are not staying here, the menu is standard breakfast fare and nothing that is out of the ordinary that makes you want to venture somewhere.

  • Paola S.

We came here for breakfast and were very disappointed :(...the hostess was rude which set up a very bad impression. The restaurant is casual expensive for what they offer ( but it is grand Hyatt after all). Food was ok nothing extraordinary, breakfast buffet for 32 usd per person and plenty options. Even though nature is part of Hawaii and we truly enjoy it, eating while trying to protect yourself from the birds which are flying all over the place and trying to eat from your plate is not a pleasant experience.

Great breakfast. Had the French toast and an omelette. Both were fresh and tasty. French toast was the better of the top with an awesome mascarpone coconut cheese that packs a ton of flavor. Beautiful seating area with a beautiful view. Pricey 15-31+ but that's what you pay in a resort. Will go back for sure.

There weren't many breakfast options to choose from on the resort. I liked Ilima Terrace because it had a satisfying breakfast and a beautiful view. The room service menu is straight off the Ilima Terrace menu. Everything is pricey so the breakfast buffet ($31 per person) was the best option. This buffet has a good balance to satisfy any breakfast craving from french toast with coconut syrup to a made to order omelet. My favorites things included the bread pudding, bacon, papaya, pineapple, pastries, and guava juice. The food options ranged from 3 to 4 stars. Service (4 stars) was very good. There was a good movement of staff to clear the plates quickly. They were nice enough the get me a little packet of li hing miu (plum powder) to sprinkle on my fruit. If you sit right by the koi pond, then please watch your food. Even when I kindly took a picture for honeymooners, the bird devoured my omelet. There is also a beautiful swan that shows off in the mornings. If you're staying at the resort, then this is a great breakfast spot. However, if you just want pastries and coffee, then the Seaview Terrace is a good spot for something lighter with a great view.

If you get a breakfast package added to your room, the breakfast buffet is a GREAT DEAL. The breakfast buffet changes every day. There is a made-to-order omelet station, and a rather large spread of breakfast buffet items, each item is marked if gluten-free, there are vegetarian options, a large selection of fruit, cheese, smoked salmon, rice, miso, scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, etc. What kept us going back every day (we were there 7 days), was the service. Elfie and Vallon - are in my opinion the BEST servers here. Every day they greeted us by name, came to chat with us, gave us recommendations for stuff to do around the island, and were just an overall JOY to see every day. The views were beautiful, and watching the little birds flying around Jonesing for the leftovers on people's plates was quite entertaining.

Good breakfast especially if you're staying at the Grand Hyatt. The view is beautiful and tables are both inside and outside. The tables outside have shade so you can enjoy your meal without getting too uncomfortable under the sun. We opted for the buffet option--a good variety of options including fresh omelets with your choice of ingredients, hot cakes, fresh fruit, lox, cereals, bread, bagels and a variety of other options. Came at 9am and did not have to wait to be seated for a party of two. Service was great, coffee came out quickly, they refreshed plates and silverware quickly, and overall was a great experience. Although I was not very impressed with the other restaurants on the property, breakfast here was tasty and reliable and I would definitely recommend it!

Nice views and location, buffet-style food good but not great. Service was pleasant, but less important given buffet style service. Pricey.

2-stars because of the value. The eggs Benedict was good, nothing exceptional. My wife had an omelet which was slightly overcooked and a tad rubbery. It was $20 for each plate, and for the value, you can do much better elsewhere. I realize it's the Hyatt, but for $20 a plate, it should be much, much better to earn more stars. Simply being expensive isn't an excuse...they should have chef's on staff who know how to properly cook an omelet for $20 a plate. Go to the small cafe for a really good panini and musubi for $10/$5 respectively.

  • Mimi T.

Had lunch here about 3 times and each time the food was mediocre. The service was great and I loved the lone Swan in the faux lake. If I wasn't staying at the Hyatt I probably would avoid the place.

Came with a group for the week, and this was really our only breakfast option. The omelette bar was the only good food here. Every day was the same, except a different kind of benedict, and they were cold and overcooked. Ick. Bagels were stale every morning. Even though breakfast was paid for, on the 5th day we rented a car and went to Joe's on the Green. One day I got the ham and cheese panini at the Seaview Terrace just to avoid the this breakfast. View was great, so a star for that.

Food is ok, but the price, even on Kauai is very expensive. A two egg breakfast checks in at $18. A side order of toast is $8. The breakfast buffet is a hefty $31 a head and though pretty large, has nothing on it to justify that kind of coin. Options are limited on the resort to this or the coffee shop and a pastry. A short drive over to Living Foods is a better option.

  • Celeste T.

Nice breakfast buffet - if you have a Club membership, be aware that the $31 buffet is like the Grand Club, but with a bit more selection on hot foods. So, if you REALLY love bacon...then go! I chose an entree instead, for the improved value. That being said, I did enjoy my Two Eggs any Style. The potatoes are like home fries, thick cut and sauteed with leeks. The two eggs, which I had over medium, were cooked perfectly. Service was impeccable. The birds flying in the open window are always amusing, and the koi pond in the center of the restaurant is amazing. The coffee kept coming. I even enjoyed the little pots of guava and lilikoi (passionfruit) jam that are provided for local flavor.

The breakfast buffet is indeed pricey ($30 pp) but when you get a package deal for the hotel and breakfast is included, it seems like a great deal! The place is gorgeous next to the koi pond, overlooking the ocean. They do have a bit of a bird "problem", but for my husband and I, the birds were actually a highlight. We thought it was a ton of fun to watch the cheeky sparrows and mynahs stalk around and try to snatch food off of unguarded plates, but we're the kind of people who are excited to see a toad hopping in a hotel hallway instead of freaking out over it. Omelet bar is great with a lot of topping choices, or you can just ask for a few eggs cooked to order. There are usually 2-3 main platters of fruit (pineapple, papaya, watermelon), but there's extra fruit garnish that a lot of people overlook! Pomegranate seeds are sprinkled on top, mostly for aesthetic reasons, but there's also longans and rambutans surrounding the rest of the fruit. I ate the rambutans -- but we noticed a lot of non-asian or non-foodie tourists ignore the more exotic fruit. I enjoyed the miso soup (with tofu and scallion garnishes you add on your own), the rotating hot dishes, smoked salmon (I made a smoked salmon cream cheese bagel one morning, with their supplied garnishes of onion and capers), and pastries. The bread pudding is REALLY good. It's very custardy. Get a bowlful, drizzle some of the hot coconut syrup on top, then go to the granola/yogurt area and sprinkle on some of the chopped macadamia nuts. Probably a million calories, but hey, you're on vacation!

**** Not the grand buffet you can expect from a grand hotel***** I arrived with my GF and we were guest at the Hyatt on 3/2/13-3/8/13 Ok maybe we showed up a little late for the buffet (11AM), but they still didn't mind charging us the $32.25 per person. OUCH!!! For breakfast. Normally being on vacation I wouldn't mind spending that amount for a descent meal, yes it's a buffet but I have had better buffets for less amount ( but those are not in Kauai ) Anyways... We sat down and the staff was great, the servers were great, the view was great. The food? eh... not so great and just blan, maybe great if they only charged 13.99 or something. Not a big variety of fruits, the eggs at the service station were oily and needed salt, the pancakes dry and stale, the bacon was good ( but when is bacon really that bad), eggs Benedict seemed to have been sitting there from the night before, potatoes had no taste and were also oily, sausage was oily, and the coffee was pretty good. Save your money and maybe just go to the McDonalds for breakfast. We did however, returned a few days later and just enjoyed the ocean view with a few cups of coffee. Worth the $10.00.

At breakfast here every morning during my vacation in Hawaii! They have a really nice buffet, and the restuarant has great views!

Great breakfast buffet! Get the daily otherwise expensive ($31/person). Friendly staff. Elfie (been there since opening) is the nicest, sweetest, most helpful lady! Did I mention that the guy made my eggs perfect!

2 stars only because of the view. The view is absolutely amazing overlooking the ocean and a beautiful pond with swans and koi fish swimming around. Everything else was poor. I would give a better review if it was a holiday inn or a best western but the Buffett was $31 per person!!! Didn't even include the $8 latte that my wife had. The eggs were soggy, bacon was cold, fruit was okay. Bagels were hard. Potatoes were soggy and there wasn't much else to offer other than oatmeal and cereal. Even the pancakes were mediocre and they didn't have French toast! I honestly asked the staff if there was a section to the Buffett that was missing. Everything else had flies buzzing around it so I ended up just getting a custom omelette at the omelette station which was good. I think everyone else eating there had the same idea because the line was very long. For $31 per person I would expect a better selection (seafood, eggs Benedict, French toast??! Come on man!). Service was good...but everything at the Hyatt is over-priced and mediocre. You will do better at a local breakfast joint or coffee shop.

Our hotel package included free breakfast buffet; and we're glad it did. Not only do we get to take in the AMAZING views here, but the service was impeccable. You really do feel appreciated. Everybody is so friendly. The food was very good. Not the best, but far from average. There's everything from cereal to eggs to huevos rancheros to French toast, bagels and pastries. There's even a build your own omlette station. Fresh fruit, yogurt and oatmeal. A+. But at $26/pp, I'm happy it was included in my hotel package.

For $28/person, we had an awesome breakfast buffet and a live nature show. Lol, by live nature show I mean the ocean in the background and a landscaped koi pond in front of us. There was a swan on the edge of the outside patio, and a mischevious crane who begged for food and even stole food right off of plates! As we were finishing breakfast, we witnessed swan feeding time and it looked like he was purposely sharing with the koi! If this isn't your idea of awesome breakfast entertainment, don't sit at a table on the water! I can't blame him too much for his robbery, the food choices in the buffet were YUM! My faves were: Eggs Florentine Lox w/capers, red onion and hard cooked egg pieces Chicken Sausage Crisp Bacon Scrambled Eggs Turkey Frittata Papaya with lime Pineapple There was also a make-to-order omelette bar, a dry cold cereal area, and an oatmeal station with toppings. Guava, orange passionfruit and orange juices, milks, and coffee were included. Some other stuff here were: Pancakes Breakfast potatoes White rice Veggie fried rice Cheeses Assorted breads, bagels, danishes and sweet rolls Citrus fruits Melons Jams, cream cheese, butter, peanut butter Hard boiled eggs Bread pudding Server Larry was attentive and friendly and refilled my coffee cup for me, and then was super nice to give me a to go cup of the strong Starbucks coffee (decaf) when we left. I'm a big fan of a breakfast buffet like this, with fresh and tasty options that you can eat immediately. It's the easiest way I know to get my protein fix. And a nature show too? I'm sold!

Matt B. loves hotel breakfast. He knows it's overpriced, and often not particularly good, but he loves breakfast food and he loves convenience. When we saw a sign in the hotel advertising Ilima Terrace, bearing a blown-up picture of a waffle topped with fruit, I knew we would be eating here, and that the pictured waffle would be his within a few days. It was a nice breakfast spot, owing primarily to a spectacular view of the ocean and hotel grounds. One side of the restaurant was just open, and our view was only obstructed by a couple luckier diners. We decided to go a la carte, as Matt just wanted his waffle and I wasn't tempted by the buffet options. Service was fast and friendly. The food was very average and very expensive, but not more so than we expected. I ordered the $19 crab asparagus omelet and it wasn't particularly good. The egg was fluffy, but it was also in kind of a dry flavorless blanket that needed plenty of help from ketchup and Tabasco. The asparagus and crab were fine but no better. The omelet came with sliced potato, cherry tomatoes, and a little strawberry and pineapple dusted with li hing mui powder. A balanced meal, I suppose. Matt's waffle was pretty decent, with fresh berries and butter and maple syrup. This breakfast set us back almost $50, and for that, I don't think we got much value that didn't derive from the setting (which was admittedly quite pleasant). Ilima Terrace wasn't actively bad, but it was overpriced enough that I wouldn't want to come back.

Great bfast buffet and omlette bar. Gluten free bacon, scrambled eggs, salmon eggs Benedict, polish sausage, fruit and oatmeal bar. Food quality is good but please don't walk in and think because you're paying more for a bfast buffet than you ever have or even thought was possible that you are getting Breakfast at Tiffany's. It is a Hotel BUFFET, and for those of you who have not realized it yet when you go to a buffet you are exchanging quality for quantity.

My husband and I ate breakfast here almost every day during our week-long honeymoon. We had breakfast included in our hotel package, so price wasn't an issue for us. $31 seems a bit expensive for a breakfast buffet though. That being said, the selection is varied so everyone can find something they like. The hot dishes change daily so you don't get bored when eating there for a week. The omelet bar is great. On the day we arrived in Kauai, we ate lunch at Ilima and split the salmon BLT. It was absolutely delicious, and the restaurant was much quieter at lunch time than it is at breakfast. We enjoyed a nice quiet lunch next to the koi pond. Overpriced sandwich? Yes, but nearly everything you buy at the resorts here is overpriced. The atmosphere is beautiful and like everywhere at this hotel, the staff is extremely friendly and gracious. The birds can be a little annoying but for the most part they leave you alone while you're eating - just be sure to cover your food when you get up!

Lunch here today, as with most resort restaurants, be prepared to drop some coin for even standard fare. The good news is that the are was above standard and average. The bride had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich which came with fries, large pieces of fresh avocado and a sweet onion jam while I had the Corn Curry Bisque and the Sliders. The bisque was excellent, corn was grilled and left in large pieces, had enough lemongrass floating in the broth to add flavor, and the broth itself was in the right middle ground for thickness. Well done. The sliders came as a plate of three: Beef with an aioli which was essentially a small hamburger ( but OK), a Barbeque pork offering that was really good and the final one was a crab cake slider with spicy Asian slaw. I don't normally eat seafood, but hey, when in Kauai. At any rate, this one was good as well although I would have liked more zip to the slaw. Came with about a dozen taro chips which are always a nice touch. Bill for two sandwiches and a bowl of soup with no drinks came to $48. Back home this would be highway robbery, but again, it is pretty standard resort pricing.

If you're interested in a good breakfast buffet in an amazingly beautiful setting you must go to Illima terrace. However, the reason you'll want to go BACK is the incredible staff and service. You're greeted before you even get to the reception desk by numerous employees who cannot wait to make your day better. The aloha spirit is always present here. Elfie is our personal favorite. She can never do enough to make your experience here better. She is enthusiastic and loves her job as well as all her customers. You may enter Illima sleepy and tired, but you will leave well fed and excited about your day on Kauai!

I've only been to Ilima Terrace for lunch. The highlight is probably the outdoor seating which, if you ignore the fake ponds in front of you, also offers a nice view of the ocean. The food is very mediocre and very over priced. I recently had a grilled swordfish sandwich. The fish was well cooked, but the sandwich as a whole was bland. It consisted of lentil sprouts and tomato with a hint of citrus on the fish, all served on a foccacia bun. It was unobjectionable but unremarkable and very expensive. It came with fries, but they were well below average, tasting more like McDonald's fries than restaurant fries. Sadly, this is still one of the better lunch spots in the area, but I'd recommend avoiding it if possible.

The star rating for Ilima Terrace is an average of the atmosphere (5 stars) and the food (3 stars). First, lets start with the atmosphere: brunch is served on a wide-open terrace that looks out at the ocean and a huge pond with koi and fountains. With a gentile breeze blowing through, it is an extremely relaxing place to eat and really feel like you are at a tropical destination. As some other posters have mentioned, the birds can be a bit of an issue. Although sitting right next to the pond may seem like a good idea, that's where the birds tended to stay. Our seat was 10-15' back and we had no trouble, and still had a great view. The food for the buffet was good but not particularly interesting. They had a suitable assortment of your usual buffet items (omelet station, crepes, fresh fruit, pastries, bacon, sausage, eggs, lox, etc.), but nothing that would really set it apart for its food offering. That said, all the food was fresh and tasted very good. Our 3-yr-old son had a great time looking at all the koi, and we really enjoyed relaxing in the open-air environment. Yes, if you grade this location on food alone, it's probably overpriced. If, however, you factor in the beautiful settings, it's a reasonable price for your brunch. Finally, if you are going for Sunday brunch, I would suggest making reservations. There were a number of people waiting for tables, and we were able to walk right up and start eating.

Excellent buffet. The made to order omelette station was awesome. I had shrimp, spinach, green peppers, onions, etc. I also enjoyed the assorted fresh fruit. There were many options to choose from. I ate there 6 of the 7 days of my vacation. They had everything from assorted cereal, hot oatmeal (with toppings) to pancakes, French toast, assorted cheeses, smoked salmon, bagels and pastries. Not to mention a nice view of the pond. You can't go wrong with this place.

We were disappointed this year by breakfast buffet at Ilima Terrace, though we've been very pleased in years past. First, our family of five was seated in arguably the worst table in the place -- a dark alcove in a back corner, with no view except of other tables needing to be bussed. For this,we waited about15 minutes, even though there were many empty tables once we got inside. maybe reservations pay off even for weekdays at 9 or so? The food was okay. Omelet station was highlight. Other offerings were plentiful but boring. Fresh fruit was limited to pineapple and papaya. No shrimp, shellfish, or other seafood. Granola was good, but how many people go to a breakfast buffet for granola? Pastries were mediocre. We enjoyed our other breakfast out -- Ono Family Restaurant in Kapaa -- much more, at about one-third the price.

As a norm, we do not go to big chain hotel restaurants, they are usually tourist cattle-processing facilities. But we were close and looking for a quick bite. Nice setting, nice decor, big door/windows, nice view, excellent service: when we arrived at noon we were practically alone since there was a big convention going on somewhere else in the hotel. Lucky us!. Not very imaginative menu, but good for a casual lunch. I do not know how it would be when the hordes arrive, it can seat a lot of people...

We got complimentary breakfast during our entire stay at The Grand Hyatt, so we took advantage and ate here every morning! I would give it only 3 stars for the food selection, which consisted of an omelet station, fresh fruit, some breads/pastries, and a small selection of hot foods that changes daily (sausages, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, poached eggs). However, they do have unbelievable service here at Ilima (and the Grand Hyatt in general). The staff here are seriously amazing - so friendly and approachable with genuinely cheery faces 24/7. You can't beat the ocean view either - is there anything better than clear blue skies, white clouds, and gorgeous greens?

We ate here two mornings and the view can't be beat. The price is a little steep, but we had a 2-1 coupon which was a good deal. The service was amazing (Elfie is the best) and there were lots of choices to chose from the buffet. Great start to the day.

Located at the Grand Hyatt. I enjoyed both meals I had at the Ilima Terrace. The service was excellent. Their Thanksgiving buffet was wonderful - fresh with an over-the-top-huge selection of food and desserts. Their normal breakfast buffet was also great with a made-to-order omelet bar. The view is perfect - a gorgeous swan in a pond then beyond that, the grounds of the Hyatt, then the ocean. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Just had the best salad I've ever had in my entire life! The waitress highly recommended the island fresh fish salad with prawns and although it didn't sound that tasty to me but with everything so expensive I thought why not give it a try over another fish sandwich or burger? Boy am I ever glad I did. The fresh fish was cooked perfectly with a light pesto sauce on top and the 2 prawns were also warm. They were served on the most delicious field greens with some papaya, red pepper slices and some wonton noodles with a ginger dressing. I never thought a combo like this could taste as good as it did. Even though we were not staying at the hotel we were seated right up front with a beautiful view of the ocean and the swans in the koi pond next to the terrace. Truly a magical experience for lunch. I mean lunch was not cheap but it was well worth it to me for the food, view and service.

our friend treated us to the breakfast buffet at ilima terrace this morning. we arrived at 10AM, and they close the buffet at 10:30AM, the restaurant closes at 11AM. we were seated right away with our waiting friends. we brought out daughter and they brought us a high chair right away. elfie (our waitress) even asked where we'd like the highchair to be placed. then she asked what i would like to drink as far as juice, coffee, etc goes. i noticed the juice bar at the buffet but she insisted that she would get it for me! elfie was soooo incredibly sweet & attentive. the buffet spread was pretty nice. they had all sorts of pastries set out. you could choose between croissants, bagels, toast, etc. there was a nice selection of fresh fruit and several hot dishes. i got my usual, portuguese sausage, eggs & rice. i was stoked that they had miso soup, too! i didn't get a look at all of the items, but considering they were almost closing, they still had a lot out and all of it looked fresh! i'm glad that it was because sometimes buffets aren't fresh/full. the restaurant was very nicely set. we were next to the water with a bunch of koi. it's brightly light with natural light and a good breeze comes through. service was excellent, food was excellent; i would definitely go back for this buffet again!

Wonderful breakfast buffet; a little pricey but with a beautiful view of the Grand Hyatt lagoons and the ocean. Service was excellent; attentive and perfectly timed. The hostess took our name for the table and thereafter the staff always addressed us Mr. or Mrs., which was a nice touch, Highlights include a terrific omlette bar and wonderful selection of fresh fruit and pastries. Pastry portions were small, which I like at a buffet because it allows you to sample a few without feeling like a pig. Overall, wonderful dining experience.

Expensive, as expected as it is in the Hyatt Regency. The $20 Eggs Benedict was very good but I'd rate the one I had at the Naupuka Terrace at the Kauai Beach resort a little better for less cost. (Naupuka calls it their Sunrise breakfast for some reason?) But one is paying for the ambiance of this location which shows with $5 coffee and $16 panini breakfast sandwich. The food and service was good as one would expect for those prices.

The prettiest place you'll ever have breakfast! Ilima Terrace is inside the beautiful Grand Hyatt. Just entering the place gives me hotel envy. This restaurant is has some outdoor seating, overlooking a pond with live swans. A completely open wall towards the ocean makes even the indoor seats feel like they're outside. Soaring ceilings, and a vast view of the ocean make you feel like you've arrived. Let's get down to brass tacks. Technically, you can order from the menu, or choose from the buffet. The buffet is $28, which isn't terrible. The bagel with lox is $17. Wow! Crab cakes are $23. This place is steering you toward the buffet. I went on a Tuesday, so Sunday brunch might be different. But I was surprised that the buffet only had about 8 warm food choices, plus requisite fruit, cereal, and pastry options. There is a delicious omelette station, which made me happy. The standouts were corn beef hash (with chunks of real corned beef -- no cans here!) and an insanely good bread pudding. This place is worth a visit for the view alone, but the food happens to be quite solid as well. But keep an eye out for those cute birds flying around. Look away for too long, and they'll be gobbling food off your plate!

Anything you would want is on the buffet. The food is good plus the scenery is incredible. Plenty of tropical fruit, eggs, sausage, omelet station. It is expensive though.

Buffet breakfast was great! Awesome selection of fresh cut fruit, salmon, cereals, and danishes/muffins to enjoy! Also the chicken sausage and the French toast were the stars of the show. We also enjoyed the omelette station. Great for a quick and enjoyable breakfast with a great view!

If our room came with breakfast here it would've been better. The buffett cash price was $30pp so we ordered off the menu. The food was okay but felt over priced for what it was. Eg: coffee or hot tea was $5, eggs benedict was $18.

Breakfast buffet is good but not as tasty as the Hyatt in Maui (where we stayed first). Omelet station is good when the regular guy is there. Didn't go near the fruit as there were tons of fruit flies hanging around. Not worth the $31/per person if we hadn't gotten a breakfast package included in our stay.

Food: Excellent, but I was surprised that the selection wasn't more exotic. They had standard fare like pancakes, bacon, sausage, lots of fresh fruit and bagels with lox (which were excellent), and also a healthy portion of chinese breakfast favorites like rice and miso soup. But for $28 I want eggs benedict, you know? And maybe some more exotic fruits. Service: Amazing. The best. Atmosphere: Amazing--25 foot ceilings with 25 foot openings to the view. Get there early and enjoy seating near the outdoors, by mature tropical trees full of birds, a fish pond full of fish and swans, and a waterfall. Incredible!

delicious with an incredible atmosphere and some of the best service you can find. but, the terrace is so overpriced you might as well have ordered room service and enjoyed that ocean view a little bit longer. when gooey cinnamon rolls start climbing over $15, its time to get in your car and drive to the local coffee shop.

another great restaurant at the grand hyatt. came here for breakfast...they have a great breakfast buffet for $28. (everything here is expensive, so $28 for all u can eat is pretty damn good) they had the staples-eggs, sausages, omelette bar, pastries, local fruit (!!! so good here). if you're staying at the hotel, give it a shot for sure.
