Good but overpriced small portions. Incredible view. Very nice service. good atmosphere. More French fries and a couple dollars cheaper and I would have given four stars

If you're on the Big Island around Kona, Annie's is a great, after a long day, place to grab a really, really good burger and a couple of drinks. Happy Hour is usually between 3 - 6pm, so you can get a decent discount on your drinks and chow down for a few bucks. Always find out the special, because it is fantastic and fresh. The Firecracker Burger is spicy and delicious, which is what I love, and the beers are cold. Service was spot-on. Multiple people, not just our designated server, came up to check on us which reminds of some fine dining establishments in Philly. Also, you may have a gecko swing by to check on you if you sitting at the back of the restaurant!

Annie's is great (obviously by the 5 stars;). I really love fresh and local ingredients, it's key to the ultimate foods. It's clean, and modern, and local, and small. I love the music they play and the smell, and atmosphere. The way everyone works so well together in a small place, is impressive. I tried many different items, and I have to say everything was amazing. The lilikoi rum fizz drink is amazballs. I have a special needs child, and one of the servers in particular is so nice to him, he makes me want to eat there much more often.

Great road trip stop while exploring the island. Recommend catch of the day sandwich wasabi style. Ice cream shakes were good too.

Gracious welcome followed by quick service of app fries and beer. Burgers were great- I was torn between the wasabi fresh catch and the steakhouse burder with sauteed local mushrooms. Both were excellent. Emphasis on local ingredients, and a bit off the beaten tourist path. Great place.

Took 86-yr-old mother on week's trip to the Big Island. Mango Court shopping center ended up being a 1-stop-for-everything: Great lunch at Annie's, next door was ice cream, then Italian pastries at Gio's and then a mini-Whole Foods grocery store. Our lunch at Annie's was perfect: Mango Court Salad w/Chicken...yum!! And, our waiter, "G" was great. But as he walked away, Mom said, "Come for the eyelashes, stay for the food." Don't ya just gotta love older ladies and their take on guys! LOL Be sure to catch the entire village of Captain Cook and adjacent town of Kealakekua where Annie's is located. One Wish: that the entire Big Island would serve Paradise Tropical Tea! Available on Amazon and I'm sure at local grocery stores. Ironic that mainland restaurants serve it but couldn't find it at restaurants on the Island.

Stopped here for lunch based on a recommendation from a local businessman. Service was prompt and very friendly. Tried the wasabi fish sandwich (ono medium rare) w/ potato salad, garlic fries, sparkling lemonade, onion rings and dark chocolate pudding. Many in my party had the burgers- which I think I would get next time. Fish sandwich was good. I loved the potato salad, garlic fries and dark chocolate pudding was amazing with pieces of chocolate in it. Not cheap, but my husband called it one of the best burgers of his life which is high praise! Would definitely go back. Worth the trip for sure!

Great stop on our way back from Place of Refuge. Had the fish sandwich with garlic basil fries. I didn't think the garlic fries matched up to the awesome reviews but they were pretty good. I think I may just be spoiled because we have the best garlic fries a t a place back home. It was nice to have reasonably priced, good food! Good place for a casual lunch.

We looked high and low for a good lunch place when in this area and yelp helped us find Annie's. We only tried the burgers because the waiter recommended other things but said they were known for their burgers and I can see why. We got the Bacon Swiss and the BBQ southpoint burger and they were amazing. We also tried the regular fries and the parmasen garlic fries and they weren't anything great but the burgers were well worth it. Don't miss this place. Our waiter was also excellent and spent time to recommend menu items and local things to do. Very helpful.

Finally tried this buger house and it was terrible. The service was ok but the food totally sucked. Come on a 14 dollar burger? Seriously ! Save your bucks and spend it more wisely... There are alot of gerat restaurants here. Will NOT recomend this restaurant and will not go back.. Too bad. We are a local family..

This place was our savior! We were desperate to eat in this area later than 7 pm and Alice's was the only place that was open and I'm glad it was! I had their BBQ burger, which is the best burger I've had in recent memory. That BBQ sauce (their own recipe) is delicious and I wish they were selling it separately so I could take some home with me. My bf had the ono sandwich, which was also tasty (and probably a lot healthier than my meal). All in all an enthusiastic thumbs up.

The best burger on the Big Island, maybe on all the Islands. Though expensive, $13 for a burger, I would come back again. I have had other "expensive" burgers elsewhere, Bachi Burger in Vegas, Umami Burger in LA, and this was the best and IMO, worth it. The rest I mentioned, I could pass on if asked to go again. Of course, I don't think I could stay financially fit if I ate here all the time, but hey, you can splurge once in a while. I guess it's the meat in the burger. On the Big Island, the beef is usually organic, grass-fed and all that. If you ever try organic, grass fed beef, you can really tell the difference from regular factory farmed beef. It's so much better. I had a BBQ burger loved everything about my burger, from the buns to the vegetables, BBQ sauce and onion rings. But I did notice that other burgers came on a Ciabatta roll instead of a bun. I really like the bun that came with my burger and think a Ciabatta roll wouldn't be my thing. It may be yours, but if I have one of the other burgers with a ciaballta roll, I may just ask them to substitute a regular bun. So save up for a burger, and have one here, you won't regret it. Unless you have to buy gas for your car or something......

Hate to be the downer on the onion rings, but they had TONS of batter. The onion was phenomenal but the batter was thick and pretty greasy. Same batter was used for the kids chicken fingers (again, great chicken on the inside, shame about the batter). We ended up removing all the batter and eating the insides. Firecracker burger was phenomenal. Very good fries.

I don't pass out 5 stars very easily but I think Annie's deserves it! Not because every little thing is off the chart perfection, but because the sum total makes the place great. It's a nice location and off the typical beaten tourism path. Annie's has a unique seating area with an ocean view on clear (Non-Voggy) days, a friendly attentive staff, and very good food. I just appreciate that Annie's isn't your typical burger joint. It's got something special.

With the Burger Wars seemingly heating up in SoCal as 5 Guys Burgers has entered the market and The Habit quickly expanding, I feel like I've been eating more and more burgers than ever! And without a relatively large selection of great places to eat on The Big Island, Annie's made for such a great experience! The Burgers here are not only the Best on the Island, but one of the Best ANYWHERE! The South Point was easily my favorite alongside a basket of onion rings and purple sweet potato chips. Ohhhh man, you think I'd be missing the isolated beaches and adventurous hikes when I have memories of the Big Island, but it's also the Burger at Annie's and their friendly service! Also - the gf was diggin the Bradley Cooper lookalike. And I simply thought all the female servers were cute. Don't forget to buy an Annie's T-Shirt to support the Local Business!

We stopped in on a whim and we were not disappointed! We were greeted immediately by a friendly server with an open, genuine smile and seated with a gorgeous view of the setting sun (it was very romantic). I fed my love for passion fruit by ordering the Lilikoi Rum Spritzer which was fizzy and fun without being overly sweet; it was perfectly refreshing. I ordered the BBQ "South Point" Burger based on our server's recommendation. I don't usually order burgers that have onion rings on them but I'm really glad I made an exception in this case. The burger was slathered in the most delicious BBQ sauce I think I have ever had and the crispy onion rings added a nice crunchy texture. The burger was incredible. We ordered some of the sweet potato chips and we liked them so much, we came back the day we left so we could take an order to snack on during the plane ride home! If you like burgers even a little, give Annie's a try!

Yummm, eating burgers on vacation is one of my fav things to do. Tried the South Point burger (BBQ sauce, avocado, cheddar cheese, and onion rings) and the Firecracker (jalepenos, pepper jack cheese, and lime cilantro coleslaw). I liked the South Point better as I felt the Firecracker was not spicy enough. Onion rings were AWESOME (and not salty at all altho I read reviews that they were) and also had a decent side salad. Also, randomly, they have amazing choc chip mac nut cookies. Really fresh and really good.

Annie's Island Burger is hands down the best place to eat in South Kona! The relaxed atmosphere and helpful experienced staff always delivers your food with a smile. Annie and Josh have done an amazing job offering a social family-atmosphere and great food. All of the meat and produce is local and fresh from hard working Hawaiian farmers. All the recipes are designed in-house and the cheese cake made by hand. The tempora onion rings are life changing! I highly recommend the South Point BBQ burger and the Steak house. Truthfully, you can not go wrong with anything on the menu. If you are driving through South Kona Annie's is place stop. Don't forget to grab a lilikoi spritzer - organic passion fruit cocktail made from fruit straight off the farm

Wow what a great place! Good for out-of-the-box thinkers who want something different: sustainable, local and organic! The prices reflect the quality, not to mention how huge their burgers are! Not only is the food great, the staff is friendly and efficient, even while short handed. Highly recommended!

High expectations for Annie's based on the Yelp meter being in the 4 1/2 star area. Looking forward to a great lunch only to find two vegan selections on the menu. The veggie patty was fine, the hand cut fries were delicious. Service was adequate. We just were not wowed by anything in particular. It was, as my rating indicates, just A-OK.

Great food and nice open setting. The thing that took away a star for this restaurant was the slow service, but only for our table. We were only a party of 3 but there was a party of 7 that sat after us and got their food first! What's up with that? Our server knew we weren't happy about that so gave us a free dessert but we were starving. Now the positives: We got a side of the onion rings which came as our appetizer, those were delicious. My daughter had the Mahi-Mahi fish and chips but asked to sub the garlic fries, both very good. I had the steak sauce burger, which was a special not on the menu, along with the sweet potato salad. Also excellent, the burger was done just right (I asked for medium), was actually bigger than the bun, and was tender and tasty. I thought the best of our orders was my wife's poke burger. It was seasoned so nicely and crispy on the outside, yum! We were stuffed so we took our free dessert to go: the dark chocolate pudding. Had it later that evening and that one is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, especially if you like dark chocolate (my daughter did not like it, not sweet enough for her). Very rich chocolate flavor and not too sweet.

Ok, didn't think that the best meal that we had on The Big Island would be in at a burger joint. BUT, this place was awesome. Friendly excellent service. Great beer choices. And quite possibly the best burger that I've ever had. Don't miss this place. It's a little out of the way, but very well worth it. We will most certainly be returning to Annie's.

Great open air restaurant with a view. You would not know that there was a view unless you went inside! We had lunch here and our burgers were awesome. I had the BBQ burger with onion rings, avocado and cheddar. It was perfect, no greasiness to it, and the bun was nice and soft. I ate every bite. No seeds which I loved. I tried the purple potato salad. It was tasty. My husband had the jalapeno burger and loved it. They do have other items besides burgers so don't pass it up in case you want something other than a burger. Mahi mahi was the special fish of the day and they have salads and other lunch foods. Very friendly staff. They are genuine and a pleasure to be around. We've been to 3 other restaurants so far on the Big Island and I wish I could say the same for their service. Maybe everyone is more cheery at the lunch hour? Definitely go try it out.

Ate here on 8 Dec 2011 while on vacation. Had read about Annie's in the Discover Hawaii the Big Island book, by Lonely Planet. Appealed to me since it had vegetarian options, and to my husband the meat eater. I got the chickpea burger which was delicious and my husband had the special which was a burger with fresh guacamole and spicy cheese, he loved it, said he could have ate another one. Prices are reasonable, seating was good, and service was great. We plan on visiting Hawaii again and will return to Annie's! (My husband thought it would be great if they had TVs on wall showing sports)

I COULD NOT get the Garlic Basil Fries in my mouth fast enough! They had so much flavor and were so delicious. Damn, I'm going to be dreaming of these for years since I don't live on the Big Island. Burger was fresh and awesome with a soft fresh baked bun. Potato salad was yummy & the service was #1. Ultimate Classic Burger was 12.95 and came with a side. To die for Basil Garlic fries with special sauce were $4.50 and kids cheese burger was $8.50. So worth it!!! Beautiful setting with easy parking in back.

The hubby and I dined here twice while on our honeymoon, the first time we visited was after our hike to South Point and Green Sand Beach, when we passed the sign for "Annie's - Burgers and Beer" heading S-11, we land-marked the place for our dinner on the way back. The second time was because we wanted another good burger! Good beer on tap: Stella, Longboard Lager (fave), Fire Rock, and PBR for $2 during Happy Hour. We tried the South Point, the Poke Cake, and the Taro burgers (2 visits remember). I agree with the other Yelpers' descriptions of the food, in four words - it is damn tasty. Everything is homemade: the pickles (Annie - please jar these and send to the mainland), BBQ sauce (also amazing), and the cucumber aioli. So good. The fries and onion rings, as you would expect, are a must order. The food is really fresh and tasty, the beer is good, and the patio dining area is a great place to enjoy a great Hawaiian sunset. We will be back on our next visit to the Big Island.

Went to Annie's based on Yelp reviews. Was not as impressed as some of the reviewers. Positives: prices, view, and wait staff. Negatives: burger itself Elaboration: Being a fan of hamburgers, and being from the Bay Area, I had to compare Annies to In-n-Out, Taxi's, Jeffrey's, Jack's Prime, and the Corner, all solid to great entries. Annie's basic cheeseburger option was comparable to the Corner, which places is last among the worthies above, directly in the solid category, meaning, it's good but not great. I ordered medium, I got medium well, not so bad, but kind of dry. Bun was ok, but relatively tasteless, there was no spicing a la Taxi's, and the cheese was definitely too sparse. As I said, good but nowhere close to 5 star, like Jack's Prime. One note on the wait staff-very friendly. They are happy to give you tips on low cost sight seeing options, beaches, surf spots, etc..

This place is a gem! While visiting my family we stopped in for some lunch and were surprised at the quality of food, fantastic service and great environment. The beef is Big Island grown and the mushroom burger is just as amazing. The fries and onion rings are some of the best I've ever had. The bread is delivered daily from a local bakery. All in all, if your visiting Kailua-Kona, please stop by and treat yourself to an Annie burger. I promise you won't be disappointed.

You start with a small place that has a comfortable coffee shop feel, add great service by a great staff, and you top it off with awesome food and you have Annie's. I was there last week while visiting my grandparents in Kona. Had the Steakhouse Burger at the recommendation of our server. Great choice.

  • Kara M.

Wow, these were the best burgers we've had in a long time, maybe ever. YUM! We were just cruising around the South Kona area and had driven by this place a few times and finally decided to stop in. We were not disappointed. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior is light and airy, with the main seating area an enclosed, but open air space with views down to the water. Husband had the Swiss bacon burger and I had the special, which was a freshly made guacamole burger (to which I added bacon, how can you not with delicious guacamole?). We also shared an order of their house-made (and fried to order) French fries and onion rings. I think these were the best onion rings I'd ever had, and we live in Walla Walla sweet country! Oh, and to top it all off, we got an order of the homemade dark chocolate mousse to go, so we could head down to the water and catch sunset. WOW! This was amazing and frankly indescribable...absolutely heavenly. We can't wait for a return trip to the Big Island so we can make another stop at Annie's.

Wow. What a great find on the coast south of Kailua Kona. Friendly staff. Quick service. Great food. Split two different types of sandwiches. One a chicken with mango sauce and goat cheese. Other burger with horseradish combo sauce. Great potato salad too. Highly recommend.

Gem of all Hawaii!!! Family vacation to Honolulu and then the Big Island has been filled with great views and lots of food. This place sets itself apart and it also makes basically everything homemade!!! The sauces, the desserts, everything is made here other then the ketchup and mustard. The music is fantastic, the staff is friendly and helpful and this place is the defining moment of how wonderful life is in Hawaii, in terms of food. Yum.

We stopped here today on our way to the other side of the island. Basically they were the only place open on New Year's day. Best whim ever!! The wait was about 15 minutes and food was a little slow coming out of the kitchen...however... so fantastically well worth the wait. Best burgers we have had in recent memory. Just fantastic on every level and I would suggest a stop here to anyone in the area or passing through. They had FANTASTIC burgers made with grass fed locally raised beef, plus home made fries, tempura dipped sweet onions, purple potato salad, fish burgers, chicken burgers, a couple vegetarian options (a veggie patty and a stuffed portabello sandwich), milkshakes, house cheesecakes, great beer and unique drinks. Great view. Great atmosphere. I was shocked to learn they have only been around a couple years and are owned by a couple twenty-somethings. Well done on every level.

Wow! Big Island grass fed beef. And they know how to cook it. Rare or rare. The burgers were great and the parmesan garlic fries scrumptious. I would go out of my way to stop in. Great service, delicious food.

Lives up to the hype. Got the South Point burger. It was slathered in tasty BBQ sauce, crunchy onion rings, fresh avocado with a half-pound slab of he-man hamburger! Quite tasty. The Lilikoi Spritzer, while foofy sounding, is a must have--especially on a sun drenched Hawaiian day. Got the Onion rings on the side which were lightly breaded and super hot. Just a lil on the too salty side--but yummy nevertheless. And with me, service is always important; I was not let down. The staff was friendly, prompt and well versed on the menu. An easy 5 stars!

  • Anne M.

Delicious burgers. Delicious onion rings. Beautiful setting. Kid friendly. Best food we had on the Big Island by far. The Firecracker burger is no joke, covered in a paste of jalapeno seeds, it is seriously hot. The burger itself is juicy, the bread is good, and the fixin's are fresh.

We've been here twice now. At this point, it's our favorite place to eat in the Kona area, including Kona Town itself. We lived in San Francisco before we moved to Kona, and while there is great food to be had in Kona, the Bay Area is a world unto itself when it comes to good restaurants, and we definitely miss that part of being there. Annie's brings the best of Bay Area eating to Kona: _great_ tasting, high quality, healthy food; easy-going, friendly, and still attentive service; clean, interesting, quality, casual environment. As far as we can tell, Annie's has hit it dead on. Way to go, and thank you for bringing this wonderful restaurant to Hawaii! Real chocolate pudding. OMG. Thank you.

Annie's was awesome!! The service was excellent and the food was good and fresh. One of my daughters didn't like her chicken strips and they switched it out for a cheeseburger for no charge. We loved the atmosphere as well....nice view of the sunset over the Pacific. Fantastic!!

Fantastic burgers, beef & seafood. Only complaint I have is it is so far from home. Fantastic food, fantastic staff and a very unique laid back restaurant. Will definitely eat there again afore leaving the Big Island. Both fish & beef cooked to perfection, spices add to, not over power. Thanks/mahalo for a great meal

The other high-rating-reviews were correct and I'm so happy Yelp guided us here. A real gem. Fantastic food - obviously prepared with care and very thoughtful. You can tell when an owner gets all of the details right and serves everything with pride. Great location, friendly staff, good prices. A must for any foodie on their travels around the Big Island!

Not so impressed. We had several people, locally and from home, give us strong recommendations for this place. After all the positive reviews we really wanted to like this place, but we were very disappointed. We got off the plane and drove straight there to get a taste of what everyone was raving about. The server was friendly and helpful, but when it came to the food, I don't know if there was a new cook or if we just picked a bad day. We ordered fries and onion rings and burgers for everyone. The fries were not all that crispy and were overly greasy, the onion rings had too much batter to the point where a couple of the rings had uncooked flour under the cooked batter. Ive never seen that before. Even though they were greasy and the rings were floury, they did taste pretty good. When it came to the burgers it was like one of those "where's the beef?" situations. The burger was a golf ball sized patty in the middle of a giant bun. We had five in our group, and everyone ordered something different. One of the burgers was overly rare, a couple of others were medium (which is what we ordered) and the third was over done, like a hockey puck. I ordered a "Firecracker" burger and my wife ordered something recommended by the server. Both were tasteless. For the price and the quality, I dont think we will be going back.

A little pricy for burgers but they are delicious if you want a break from local cuisine. All fresh local grown ingredients including the beef.

Annie's doesn't look like much when you drive by on Hwy 11, but it came recommended by plenty of locals so we decided to stop in for lunch. The place is actually much larger than it appears from the outside. We went there in the early lunch hour and were seated right away. The waiter gave us the specials including the fresh catch which was ahi tuna caught the day before. Of course, I couldn't resist, so I ordered the fresh catch sandwich which was served with your choice of fries, potato salad, coleslaw or onion rings (for an extra charge). My husband ordered the South Kona Saute Burger with onion rings which the waiter offered to bring as an appetizer. I thought the onions rings were some of the best I've had, but my husband is rather picky and said they were too heavily breaded for him. I liked my sandwich, but was a little disappointed that my fish was cooked a too long. I ordered it with a light sear, but the tuna was practically cooked through. I suppose this is an easy thing to do as tuna goes from raw to well done in a matter of a few seconds. The sandwich was also served with an onion ring on top which I thought was a little misplaced. I do want to mention that they do seem to focus on fresh ingredients, and I found this to be true of all the food we ate there. If you're in the Captain Cook area, I would definitely stop into Annie's for lunch.

Awesome spot for burgers and beer! I love the south point western style burger with onion rings and a draft Longboard lager. This place has gotten better and better. 5 stars for food, ambiance, and service. One of the best patios in South Kona. Really fun spot when there is music Friday night.

Annies "steakhouse burger" is perfect. Sweet potato chips dusted - are yummy as well. We will be back to sample more.... We did go back THREE times during our two week Big Island Circumnavigation... The Firecracker Burger is yummy - lots of sauteed heat with the Jalapeno peppers - and the Bacon/Swiss burger is a classic! The deck overlooks the Pacific Ocean on a clear day - and the geckos run steadily to clear the occasional pest. WE love this place - we came back three times during our two week stay - we are still talking about the Steakhouse burger with gorgonzola and local mushrooms... Killer.

  • John R.

Much better than expected. I didn't think hamburgers could be done well and reasonably priced on an Island, but I was wrong. The night we were there the crowd was a little eclectic, but it was a great overall experience.

I'm not sure if I've ever had a better burger, and I don't think it was just the aloha spirit of the friendly staff or the location - I think it was just that good. At least it's up there with the Best Burger Experiences of your life. Last time in we shared the South Point Burger (onion ring, barbeque sauce, avocado, cheddar) and the Garden Salad. The burger was perfectly done -- medium, pink, juicy, falls apart tender. Burgers come with house-made pickles, lettuce, onion. Fries were fresh cut, tempura onion rings perfect. The gorgonzola and dressing on the salad were wonderful. The lilikoi spritzer was intensely flavored with passionfruit with just the right balance of sweet and tart. Everything seems super fresh. The staff is always super friendly and it looks like they are having a good time. They split our salad onto two plates since they knew we were sharing. Just a super place and I can't recommend it highly enough.

I did not know where to have lunch, and a local recommended this place as absolutely best for being a conscious about using local ingredients to make burgers. It was not only tasty but staff were super friendly. We sat by the window seats where have a wide view of outside. The store has a map of Hawaii to show where burgers ingredients are grown, which I thought it was pretty cool. Enjoy your burger!!

Due to a recent school graduation, we visited Annie's, and were pleasantly greeted, ample seating, very good service with friendly staff. The onion rings are absolutely fantastic; however, they're like very good doughnuts, it's HARD to have only one, ya' love them! The burgers are quite delicious, and.....for the veggie lover, do enjoy the good karma burger. One of the tasty drinks, the lilikoi spritzer, non alcoholic. We look forward to visiting as often as possible!

I had the Steakhouse burger and added avocado slices to it with a Long Board lager. The burger was one of the top 3 I've ever had in my life anywhere in the whole world, possibly the best. I had it medium rare and it came out perfect. Meat was pink in the middle, charred slightly on the outside, and oozing out its own natural juices. Topped with the avocado and local legendary Hamakua mushrooms, it was such a glistening thing of beauty that I didn't want to touch it. Cracked some peppercorns and added some sea salt to the meat and all the yumminess went down. It was one of those burgers you just went bite after bite wondering how could each bite taste so good? The last bite was JUST as good as the first. Oh my goshhhh...

I never think myself as a burger lover except our famous In n Out, which is my must have on the way from bay area to LA. But I really enjoyed Annie's burger, beef patty is just right at medium well, slightly pinky, I asked to change to fried onion ring to sauted onion, they gladly did so and it turned out super delicious. Restaurant seating is fairly nice and have a view.

The food here is so good! I wish we wouldn't have waited until our last day on the island so we could have gone again! The basil garlic fries were just amazing! Service was good and the place bas a nice casual vibe to it. Very relaxed!

Amazing burger, awesome view and great service. Best meal in a week. Never thought I would have a stellar burger on the middle of the pacific. Great job!!!

"Burgers are excellent - juicy and full of flavor. As others have mentioned, the chocolate pudding is not to be missed.- especially with the addition of a warm cookie! Wait staff is attentive, knowledgeable and friendly."

Went there while on vacation, as told it was a good burger for the area...well, my husband & I ordered the Firecracker burger & the Bacon Swiss burger, I have forgotten what burger my friend ordered...we asked that the 3 be "medium rare"....I have had plenty of burgers in my day & I know what medium rare is... holy smokes...when it came out...it was pink & bloody. Had to them back, they came back with a almost burnt flavor to them, like the cook just smashed it down & cooked it...not pleased...can't see us going back.

Hubby and I split the bbq burger people rave about and thought it was pretty good. We also ordered the onion rings and thought they were too overly breaded so didn't enjoy them as much as we'd hoped. We ended up giving the rest to a couple of guys who really appreciated it. Unfortunately they were out of the sweet potato chips and I'd really wanted to try those. The service was really good and friendly and overall it was a decent meal.

Tasty and filling, even if it is a lot of dough to drop for sandwich and fries. There is ONE vegan entree, but it is a very tasty one. The ingredients are very fresh and well-prepared. I enjoyed the purple sweet potato chips, too.

Best burgers and best onion rings ANYWHERE. Don't miss this place if you're on the Big Island. Staff and ambiance are great as well. Perfect meal after a morning kayaking Kealakekua Bay and snorkeling Captain Cook. Oh, and the beer selection is good and ice cold. Icing on the cake.

If you're starved for some red meat after all the great fish and fruit/vegetable options that abound on the island, Annie's is a great place to get that burger you've been craving. The menu has your standard burger-boutique variations, along with a few fish options and even an option for your vegan friend that tagged along. Oh, convert them by the way - this is as good a place as any ! It's location is "tucked" away, but visible from the highway, and that's a not a horrible thing. The ambiance is relaxed, and beer and/or family friendly. Once inside, the view out the back is nice and you'll probably appreciate a meal without a feral cat begging at your table for once. Enjoy, and enjoy often. It was easily one of our top meals on the island during our stay.

It's sometimes difficult to find a restaurant that serves local and organic food (period), but also one that everyone is equally excited to go to! T'is the case with Annie's! We changed our lunch plans post-snorkel excursion to come to Annie's, and we're all very happy we did. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere with wide-open windows to the ocean - letting all that sea breeze in. Idyllic! The waitstaff was just right: friendly, attentive, and comfortable in their own skin (speaking mostly about our own main server, Marissa). The food - great gooooooogly mooooogly the food!! To start we actually ordered the chocolate pudding for an appetizer - cuz you know, sometimes you get so full towards the end that you might risk missing out! Their chocolate pudding = totally worth it. Amazing. We all loved it. I ordered the Fresh Catch Wasabi Sandwich, which was made with Ono that had just arrived to the restaurant kitchen 30 minutes prior. I mean, c'mon. That's fresh fish - and it was as the name means: delicious! Made medium-rare, it was the fish that I'd like to have on a daily basis. Wish I lived here. My bf got the Poke Cake Burger made with Mahi, my mom got the Good Karma Burger (grilled Portobello mushroom stuffed with a bulgur and parmesan blend), and my step-dad got the Special Burger (medium with caramelized onions and mushrooms). All were exceptional - I tasted them! Our sides: fries were perfect. The special macaroni salad with macadamia nuts was not. It's okay though... we had plenty to eat, and tasting it was worth the try. Oh, what sold us: our guide from our kayak tour (Adventures In Paradise - see my review on them) mentioned Annie's has the hook up for Hawai'ian island-raised beef. He said it's difficult to find here as most of it gets shipped off to the mainland. Just thought I'd mention... and it's gooood beef! If I had it my way - I'd come back every day. Looks like they have great Happy Hour specials, and I imagine it would be a smashing place to watch the sunset while you dine on your delectables.

Random stop on the way back from Two Steps - soooo worth IT! Doesn't look like much from the street, but the food was AMAZING! Loved the purple sweet potato chips and fries, but the burger might be the best we've EVER had. EVER. And we're not shy of burgers. We had the South Point Burger - BBQ sauce should be patented - soooo good... on EVERYTHING. And they know how to do medium rare - local organically raised beef was butter. Also tried the fresh catch of the day sandwich - rare fresh AHI with Wasabi and a tempura onion ring on sourdough - perfectly cooked and delish. Kids loved theirs - best chicken fingers anywhere - so tender and great in the house BBQ sauce. Finished with possibly the most amazing chocolate pudding on the planet. I know - chocolate pudding you say? Yes - try the chocolate pudding. Chocolate on par with Paris' Angelina. Seriously. The staff was super cool and despite no view, nice open air ambience and vibe.

Food at Annie's is consistantly great! Very friendly and attentive servers. Atmosphere is small but very quaint. Get a seat all the way at the back so you have a great view out the open window/doors. Try the garlic basil fries with the garlic basil aioli sauce. Very ono!

Like this place needs another 5 star review! :) The food was very very good and the service was excellent. The owners run the place like it is a month old (I.e. They really care about your experience) though it has been in operation for 1.5 years. Locally sourced food prepared perfectly. Don't miss this place!

  • Michael L.

The service was very friendly and the atmosphere is cool w/ a covered deck that is open-air - great for sunset meals. The burgers were very good but pricey @ $14. Ordered kid's burger @ $8/ea, but the meat could have fit inside a soup spoon ... not much food for a couple hungry kids and I wasn't going to shell out another $8 for burger smaller than a slider. Beer was cold.

The onion rings are great. The purple potato salad was a nice surprise. I got the South Point BBQ Burger and it was one of the best I have had on the island. Definitely going to have to stop by again.

I thought ultimate burgers was the ultimate until we drove to south Kona and tried Annie's! Great burgers... I had the greek with feta cheese sauce and kalamata olives on a ciabatta roll. Made to order, great portion and the onion rings were amazing! Service was very fast and polite. We will definately be back! Take the drive and enjoy really good burgers, fries and onion rings -- all local grown. Yum!

Love the fresh island, grass-fed beef. Our favorite is the Firecracker burger with fresh jalapenos. We also love the huge onion rings and hand-cut french fries served in a basket. This is another of our regular stops on the Big Island.

I'm not a hamburger fan, so I braved it this time and had what I called the standard burger. I was told the meat would be cooked to whatever "doneness" I wanted. I also chose the purple potato salad as the side. I like good flavor to my food and my lunch was over the top for not only good flavor but for the experience of friendly, informed staff who smiled and apparently like their job. I don't care how good the food is no matter where you eat, if the wait staff are rude, lazy or sloppy in their serving or appearance, it ruins the dining experience. Annie's has class,(not high end, but class in general), great food and a wonderful, relaxing lanai. No doubt, we'll go back.

Burgers ordered medium and came out like hockey pucks.... very well done... doing construction as well... power-tools being used during our entire meal.... no sweet potato chips... but fries and onion rings were excellent....

The burgers are really good! The fish specials are worth a try because they're *fresh*! and the lettuces in their salad are almost sweet, and from just up the mountain range. Don't miss the onion rings though, they're finger lickin good! The young -N's that work here are sweet, and quick to make sure that you're satisfied. I say don't miss this spot for a really casual, yummy bite.

Extremely tasty (and super-fresh tasting) home made vegan burger. Maybe the best I've had. Very nice and attentive service. The watermelon/ginger drink was great. The only downside was that it isn't cheap.

My very favorite local restaurant! Great food and prices, friendly servers! The sweet potato chips and onion rings are to die for!!! They also use fresh grown local produce. The mangos they use for the mango chutney is from an awesome local farm called Sweet Spirit Farms ( sweetspiritfarms.com ). The staff is an eclectic bunch of people from all over the world.

We went to Annie's as a result of the Yelp reviews and were happy that we did! They pride themselves on serving fresh, local product and it was. My wife had the special burger of the day, goat cheese, pineapple and bbq sauce on a large fresh burger. The meat was cooked axactly as she ordered, medium rare and full of flavor. The combination of tastes was surprisingly outstanding. They clearly had spent some time testing before putting this on the menu. I had an albacore tuna sandwich on sourdough bread. The tuna was fresh and seared rare exactly as I had asked ... and it was terrific. One of their specialties is the local blue sweet salad which liked alot, though it was too peppery fro my wife. My one disappointment was that the onion rings were a bit greasy. The onions were fresh and flavorful with a nice batter mut the somewhat heavy greasiness was a detraction.

A local kayak guide recommended Annies for lunch after a morning of snorkeling. We were not disappoiinted. Cold local brews great burgers and the best beer battered onion rings I have ever had. The wait staff were great and suggested an off menu burger they were trying out. It was a large burger with local goat cheese, roasted pineapple and BBQ sauce. It was fantastic. One recommendation, it you like your burger medium (little or no pink), then order medium well. Other than that, fantastic.

Read Yelp to find a good, quick place to eat. Was tired of all of the traffic in downtown Kona, so off to Annie's we went and boy are we glad we did! The service is excellent and the hamburger w/barbecue sauce, sweet tempura onion, and avocado was fantastic! I usually don't like french fries these days, but these fries were just plain good! We'll be going back before we leave this beautiful island!

Wow... easily one of the best meals you can get on the Island. Burger was awesome (I got the steakhouse, which was incredible). Sides of the onion rings and purple sweet potato chips were fantastic too. Very chill atmosphere too.

Still trying to think of a better burger that I have had. Taylor' s in St. Helena? No. In-n-Out? Negative. So good, we may have to go back again to see if it was really that good. Makes me wonder why there was a line at nearly every restaurant in Kona Town. Bubba Gump; really? Welcome was extremely friendly, in spite of coming in close to closing, service was awesome, and food was out of this world. Reason enough to come back to this island.

I heard from a couple people, that this place was good food. So we decided to try it, one lazy afternoon. We live right down the street from this place, so it was conveniently located. It has a pretty cool atmosphere. I love how the wall opens up to the outside. It's pretty awesome. It's very small, but nicely decorated. The servers were very friendly. I had the poke cake burger, and it was SO good. It was a little spicier than I like my food, but it was so good, I just ordered an extra beer to cool it down. I love the sea salt they put on their fries and onion rings. My fiance had a burger with avocado on it. I don't remember what it was called, but I tried it, and it was really good, too! The only downside to having that outdoor setting, was that we were placed right at the lookout , and as the sun got lower, we ended up getting scortched. Push come to shove, they had really good food, and it was worth a little bit of sweat. Also one more thing, we did feel a little out of place, because we were the only locals eating there... but I chalk it up to Yelp, because there is no way the tourists just stumbled upon this little place... It is also a little pricey, so it wouldn't be somewhere the locals would go regularly. But it's a great place to take your lady out for a nice lunch or dinner. :)

This was a GREAT stop after seeing the Place of Refuge and St. Benedict's Painted Church. It's located off Hwy 11 in a quaint shopping center. It's owned and ran by young entrepreneurs! The young man that waited on us was super friendly and helpful (always coming to the table asking us if we needed anything and REFILLED our drinks). I ordered the Poke sandwich which was made like a crab cake style, really good and tasty(5 Stars). The Hubby ordered the Southpoint Burger which he described it to be tasty but it fell apart because it was so big (4.5 Stars). A bit messy. My Sis ordered the Portobella Mushroom with Bulgar Wheat Sandwich. She said she wished the mushroom was not so charred, otherwise it was good (4.5 Stars). We also shared the sweet potato fries was interesting, a bit too much cinnamony (3 Stars). The highlight of our lunch was the location! The seating area is a covered deck with an awesome view of wild trees, tropical plants, and the distant ocean. Our table was right next to a tree that they built the restaurant around! Will come back...who knows when :(

Thank you Yelpers! We agree with you on the best burger on this island, ok we didn't try any others but we know a burger when we eat one! I wish it was close to home! Absolutely the best beef I have ever tasted. The steakhouse burger was to die for with the Gorgonzola cheese and arugula, ok sounds real fancy and not what you would typically order, but it was just WOW! My husband had the classic and he was impressed, but when he took a bite of mine, he was pleasantly surprised by all the different flavors that made this burger the bomb! Its worth the trip to Kealakekua! Cant wait to go back to this beautiful island with so many things to do and great food places!

Would be 5 stars but the service was crazy, they say they say they were two people short but half the seating was closed off and there were open tables, we ordered a firecracker burger and a regular burger. After we ordered we heard another waitress go over the days specials something our waitress failed to do my wife switched her order to the mahi mahi fish and chips. They warned us that the burgers were cooked on the raw side and that was true I ordered a medium rare and it was what most places would serve as rare which was what I was expecting but another table sent theirs back saying it was too rare. When our food arrived my fries were not there but instead coleslaw, they did bring me some fries, now for the tastes, firecracker was outstanding it comes with a roasted jalapeño pepper and coleslaw that had cilantro and lime in it, I would eat it every day. The fish and chips were very good too. Great food, not so great service.

Annie, Josh and their staff get it. They provide excellent food and superb service in a contemporary and vibrant establishment. The use of locally grown beef and produce is greatly appreciated - and the flavor is second to none. In the coming years, I fully expect to see Annie's on Maui, Oahu, and in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Santa Monica, Palm Springs, Denver, Minneapolis, Austin.....In the mean time, if you're in the Captain Cook area, stop at Annie's, you'll be glad you did!

If you are anywhere on the Big Island and want a guaranteed great burger, the only place is Annie's. Forget the Zagat-rated burger place on the other side of the island (nice beef but they don't know what to do with it). Annie's knows burgers. We've tried them from In & Out ($) to Mandalay Bay's (Vegas $$$$$) Burger Bar and all across the country - Annie's tops them all. Plus, get the fries, the onion rings, the special desserts, the beer, the milkshakes - they do it all right! Thank you Annie's. We love your Big island, grass-fed 1/2 lb. burgers and local, organic produce. See you next year!

Hands down the best onion rings and burger that I have ever had! My wife got the Ahi Tuna sandwich and I got the south point burger with avocado and bacon... I had a bite of her sandwich and it was great too. The service was good and we got to see a beautiful Island sunset out of the back window. I liked the place so much I bought a tee shirt... I'm going back there for sure.

My family and I ventured out to find a good burger joint during our extended stay on the Big Island, and we found it! Annie's is by far the best burger joint we have ever been too! Our 10 year old daughter wanted to go back the next morning for another burger! Besides the food being amazing (onion rings are unreal!), the staff is genuinely nice and helpful. We chatted with the owner for a good 5 minutes about things to do on the island. We will most definitely be going back several times before we leave!

These are quality burgers topped with delicious combinations of cheese, greens, unique relishes Our family of teens agreed they were of the best we've eaten. The non-beef options sounded great; for example bulgar-Parmesan stuffed portabello and chicken with mango. Friendly, casual, not a bad price for what you get. Feels like a place that cares about what it feeds you.

  • John T.

This is probably as good a burger as you'll find, so I have to give it 5 stars despite a few tiny flaws. Service was fast and friendly, they had good lemonade, the burger was delicious, the view was great. The only downside is something that comes with the territory here - price: $35 for two for lunch (and that was just a sandwich and a burger and one lemonade - ouch!)

  • Marc P.

Just happened to find this place while driving south on 11. Nice little place, with a lot of natural light. The staff and service was very friendly and alert. They had 2 vegetarian options - a portobello mushroom burger and taro burger (vegan). All burgers ran about $11 without sides (extra $2.50), but food was worth it! A great spot to grab lunch as you're exploring the island.

After reading multiple reviews on this place, and burgers are a favorite of my 2 teens, we stopped at Annies. Pleasantly greeted when we walked in and were seated quickly. The waitress was not friendly. Acted as if she didn't want to be there and less than pleasant answering questions we had. Seemed like we were "bothering" her. We ordered 3 different burgers that came out looking fantastic but had absolutely no taste. Expensive to boot, around 12$ each. The fries were good and a big serving. Onion rings were a bit greasy and expensive considering there were 6 in the baskets for 4$. The busgirl was very pleasant and seemed to enjoy what she did. The only satisfying menu item we had was the passion fruit cheesecake, delicious! I wouldn't stop here or go out of my way to find this place but if you are passing by stop in for the cheesecake. Skip the burgers.

This place is a nice burger joint with a casual, relaxing atmosphere. We had the BBQ southwest burger and the Steakburger. Both were pretty good but I think with all the 5 star ratings our expectations were really high, maybe unreasonably high... I mean, it's a burger joint for goodness sake! It's definitely as good as one could get!! The service was great... all of the servers were really friendly, especially to our 2 yr old, and that's a plus.

If I could give a zero, I would. This was the worse burger I ever ate! I specifically asked for medium well. The first waiter said, "Sure, we will make it pink." The plate was brought out by another waiter. The hamburger looked good until I took a bite into it. It was completely raw on the inside! I tried to eat the burger, but I got to the point where I wanted to gag. My boyfriend tried to catch our waiters' attention, but no one would look our way. No one came to check on us. No one refilled our water. Then another different waiter came and gave us our bill without saying a word or asking if we needed anything. My boyfriend paid, took a picture of the hamburger, thinking he can show it to the owner. He called the restaurant and told the manager what happened. The manager said she will have the owner call him back and they never did. This restaurant has poor customer service to the point that after two months, I'm still pissed. DON'T EAT HERE unless you want to throw away your money. McDONALD'S is better than Annie's and a lot cheaper.

Oh my where to I start? Heavenly food! And a girl's gotta eat! I am trying to behave just know it's really hard for me cause well I admit it, I love to eat! My stomach and butt will confirm this fact for you, however I feel slightly less guilt after indulging here! Highly recommend and will be back - Mahalo, and Jess was the bomb waitress give that girl a TIP! Ask about the cocktail special because you don't want to miss out, you're welcome in advance for the tip! Aloha peeps!

We are in Kona for vacation and were buying some coffee from some where and other customers there recommend this place. There were a bunch of reviews and it looked good here on Yelp, so we went. So we decided to go for lunch. As soon as you walk in, there is a small bar that was full, and we had to wait a couple minutes before we were seated. There is no A/C and I was shocked. But there was a great view over looking plants and trees and the ocean. There are large screens, the windows were on sliders and hidden out of sight. I was hot and started to sweat initially but after I ordered a cold beer, I began to cool down. My girlfriend ordered a "Big Island Iced Tea" which is their version of a Long Island. It was delicious and the Lilikoi juice is what made this drink awesome!!! Don't get that back in Chicago. I ordered a special, Ono burger... It was shredded Ono fish, mixed with other stuff and fried. It was simple and delicious. I had some onion rings for the side, also delicious. Turns out our server was also from Chicago, a neighboring suburb actually. I don't remember her name though. Prices weren't to bad but for fresh delicious, and natural ingredients it was well worth it. I would recommend this place and if I am ever out here again, I would totally go here.

My wife and I absolutely love this place! They have absolutely fantastic drinks! The salad is fresh. Love the basil garlic fries. The grass fed Big Island beef is healthy, natural and tasty. The ingredients are wholesome. The soup du jour variety is excellent: a couple of days ago it was Cajun corn chowder. Today it's vegan chili. The service is prompt and friendly. The staff is awesome. Make sure and see if Freddie Mercury's island look-alike son is working!

Juicy, tasty burgers made from local grass-fed beef... so darn delicious!!! I really like their tempura onion rings as well... I'm drooling just thinking about them! just FYI, they tend to cook their burgers a little bit on the rare side so i recommend ordering it a little bit on the more cooked side (i.e. if you prefer medium rare order your burger medium). A little bit on the pricier side but so worth it for the taste and high-quality, local ingredients!!

  • J S.

Burgers are pretty good here and are around $14-15 each. I ordered the bbq burger and my hub got the Angus one but he didn't want the blue cheese (Gorgonzola) which we specified to the waiter. Our food came and his burger came with that gross cheese on it which we had to send back and order a new one. That took an additional 15 minutes of waiting. Beers are around $5 each There was no soap in the men's restroom. Go next door for dessert. Delicious gelato

This place was a fantastic find right before we headed to kona airport. The garlic fries are definitely worth the upgrade. The potato salad side was also a nice surprise, not too much mayo and not too heavy. The burgers are really really great quality. My dad ventured to say that it's "wayy better than mcdonalds". Food was great, local beer also great!

This place blew me away. The most fresh and tasty food we encountered on the big island. Very original and full of flavor. I got the BBQ South Point Burger and a garden fresh salad. The fresh beef, onion ring and bbq sauce were so delicious and made the burger. The salad was grown on their own farm. Highly recommended.

  • Marius H.

We stopped here after looking for a place to have dinner. We ordered the BBQ South Point and the Steakhouse Burger. The Patties were very tasty, juicy and perfectly grilled. The Garlic-Basil fries I took as side were just fantastic, as well as the dip. Portions were generous, so we were not able to order any deserts. Staff was very friendly and we did not had to wait long to get our meals. Recommendation!

The best! They have fast, friendly service and the best food around! I had their bleu burger and oh em geeeeee!!! That thing was packed with bleu cheese dressing! So, so, so good! I also decided to upgrade my side order to the onion rings. They were honestly the best onion rings I have ever put it my mouth! The batter was like a sweet tempura....I need to get my hands on more of these things! I can't wait to go back! The staff was super attentive and fast as well. We didn't just see our server during our meal, we also saw the manager running around and helping out. I love that. We were there during a rush and I could really tell that these guys work together to make their guests happy. Really good vibes here and I loved the atmosphere! Cool decor too! There were trees growing up through the floor and out through the roof! Try this place out! You won't be sorry!

Six of us tried several different fish sandwiches and burgers with all the different sides (we just wanted different things, that's why). All good. Generous portions. Fine service. New to us and we're glad we discovered it!

One of my favorite restaurants on the island. Nice taste, fresh meats, good vibe, good ingredients, and quick friendly service. What else could one want? Also nice selection of local draft beers. Make sure to check out my pix!

Great find & great food! We will definitely come back & the mai tai is awesome! We appreciate the service as well - everyone was super friendly when we walked in and then also our server Josiah (sp?). We recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice cool relaxing place to dine.

The burgers here were as good as any I've had. The tempura onion rings were excellent as well. My wife ordered purple potato salad as her side. It's an interesting combination of purple potatoes and purple sweet potatoes. Very pleasant place, with trees growing in the middle of the dining room.

Bought a piece of fish the other day at 17.99 per pound, hoping to take it home to cook it. Unwrapped the plastic wrap around the piece and found a few worms in the piece. 0/10, would not visit again.

This is a small local burger joint (beer and cocktails too!) right on Highway 11. Big sign out front saying "Best Burgers" so we had to put them to the test. Well, they passed with flying colors. They offer 6-7 different burgers - we had two different ones and they were both great. Meat was properly cooked. Other tips: The onion rings are a MUST - literally the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. The portion sizes of the kids menu items are large. I'd suggest splitting 1 order for every 2 kids. Definitely check this place out!

Everything was great, which on the Big Island is rare. Loved the natural ambiance with natural ventilation, menu size is perfect, food was perfect, servers excellent. If you like burgers, the meat is tasty and cooked as ordered. French fries are made from fresh potatoes and tasty. If you've never had Okinawan sweet potatoes (which locals grow in their gardens) you should try it. Personally I would prefer all purple potatoes but they use half purple and half regular.

Annie's is one of my favorite restaurants on the big Island. Every time we visit, I make sure that we eat at least one meal here. It's rare that I will order a burger at a restaurant, since I will only eat organically grown beef. Annie's is the perfect spot for me to enjoy the guilty pleasure of a burger, while still maintaining the clean standards of how I like to eat. I always start with a house salad, which is dressed with their spectacular house made basil vinaigrette, and the lettuce is the freshest that I have ever tasted. It tastes like they have just pulled it from the garden! They use organic, fresh, local vegetables on every plate. At this point, I have tried almost all of the burgers on the menu, and my favorite remains the South Pointe burger (the key here is their island-style sweet barbecue sauce) and the South Kona burger (The Hawaiian Hamakua mushrooms and their house made A-1 style steak sauce are the clinchers on this one). If you like french fries, don't miss their fresh basil garlic fries, which come with the basil dipping sauce. The servers are friendly, attentive, and have great personalities. This place is a win all around!

Burgers were great. Staff was very friendly. The fries were slightly overdone but the burger taste was so good that I had to give it 5 stars. One of the best parts is that this joint was that it had malt vinegar for the fries (you have to ask), which my wife loves.

No matter where you are staying on the Big Island, if you can make it here you will not be disappointed. The burgers, no matter plain or with toppings, get 5 stars. The meat alone was delicious. The Steakhouse burger had a pesto sauce on it that was so tasty. Since there were 5 of us, we order different options for sides. We had the fries, onion rings, and potato salad. If you have at least 3 people in your party try this. All the sides we great. The tomato and pickled cucumbers on the plate were great accompaniments. For dessert we had one of their cookies warned up. It was sooo good. Enjoy!!!!

We were starving after a green sands and black sand excursions. We had a hungry group of ten, because we were such a large group we had a twenty minute wait. The adult beverages and food was just what this group needed. We had a wonderful lunch, thank you Josiah.

My first burger in two years, and I chose to come here for my first one. Seriously. I hadn't eaten a burger in 2 years because I was in the Peace Corps. I came back to America and this was the place I went. It satisfied all my cravings and went beyond. Mouth watering, delicious combinations, grass fed beef. I had the Bacon Bleu burger, and came back the next day for the Bacon Swiss burger. Both were delicious, spot on with all their ingredients. You really need a clothing sized napkin to deal with the Bacon Bleu's delicious drippings, but it is well worth the mess. The wait staff was wonderful. The young guy that we had had obviously had several 5 hour energy drinks and was rearing to go. He was so nice and even gave us a free piece of dessert (yum!) I highly recommend this place to anyone coming through the area. Even if you're just in Kona, make the trip. You won't regret it.

The decor was cool, eclectic. A beautiful view and comfortable with a slight breeze. Palm trees growing through the floor and ceiling. I recommend the goat cheese poppers and the fries. Sauces are homemade. Burgers were big enough to share but sides were sized for one.

My husband and I went here for dinner after having it recommended to us by a local couple we met. We both had burgers which were very fresh tasting and large. They seem to have a lot of items that they make in house which made it even better. Very friendly staff !

I've been driving by this place for awhile. After a long hike I decided I wanted a burger. The staff was super friendly and attentive. From start to finish they were kind and personable. The host (I don't know his name...he has dreadlocks) was so sweet and welcoming. My server was Gi (sp?). He was spot on. The burger was delicious and the sound of the rain on the roof while admiring the view was exceptional.

Synopsis: organic gourmet burgers, a little pricey, very nice staff (best looking girls on the island!) garlic fries are killer, burgers are great! if you want to taste taste best burger made with pure ingredients, this is the place.

  • Chy L.

The best burgers we've had! We ordered the BBQ South Point burger and Ultimate burger, onion rings, and fries. The burgers are huge and fall-apart-in-your-hands juicy! The onion rings are really done well, dipped in tempura batter and fried golden crisp! I usually get the comment of "Do you want some onion rings to go with your sauce" but I didn't need to use any with these babies...so that's saying a lot! My tip would be to just order two orders of the onion rings, burgers and skip the fries. This place is cool that it's very open and you get to dine next to a Palm tree!

  • M S.

We really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but couldn't get over that the burgers we overcooked. The atmosphere was nice, decor relaxed and organic. The menu had great choices, it was hard to choose. They ask how you want your burger cooked, I asked for medium and and my partner asked for medium well. The waiter let me know that the medium would have pink in it and confirmed that's what I wanted. When I got my burger, I wish I asked for rare because it was so chewy and not even a bit of pink on the inside. The toppings were tasty, and the onion rings were delicious and juicy. Beware the burgers are overcooked and you may need to ask for more rare than you normally request.

  • Kelly D.

Burgers were amazing and cooked perfectly. Juicy tasty burgers made from local grass-fed beef. The hand cut french fries were hot and crispy. After reading the yelp comments we knew in advance that they tend to cook their burgers a little bit on the rare side. Our waiter Malakai (sp) also explained that the burgers were cooked differently than most. For example if you order a medium rare your burger will be on the rare side. The prices were decent but when you get fresh ingredients you expect that. Service was awesome.

I am in love with this restaurant. It's a guaranteed delicious meal. The waiters are friendly and knowledgeable and professional. I've eaten all over the island and this is one of my favorite places to go to. Reliably fresh and delicious. The goat cheese poppers are phenomenal. The veggie burger is literally the best veggie burger I've had and I've had so many in my travels and in NYC. Stay open forever please.

Waited 30 minutes for burgers with barely any customers. Had the Swiss bacon burger. Burger was warm and under cooked, Swiss was not melted, bacon under cooked and had to be removed.

I had a classic burger with the garlic basil fries. The burger was perfectly cooked and delicious! It went really well with the lager beer the menu had recommended. Waiters were extremely nice and helpful. Kids burgers were cheaper but still a good size. We decided to get dessert despite our full tummies and got the strawberry cheesecake and pineapple/coconut ice cream. Both were soooo good! The restaurant has huge windows with a nice view of trees and breeze.

Annie's is definitely a solid choice if you want a great quality burger. Fresh ingredients, fantastic combinations, friendly service... Definitely hit this place up if you're in the mood for burgers and a beer. Personal favorites here include the south point bbq burger and the avocado swiss burger. The garlic basil fries are tasty, but be prepared for chunks of garlic and basil - personally I'd like it better if it were a finer mince. Word of advice - your definition of "doneness" is probably different than Annie's. Think one less than what you're probably used to - for example, Annie's "medium" looks more like medium rare. Usually the server will make sure you know this, but good to keep in mind anyway. A good burger shouldn't be overcooked anyway, IMO, so that detail didn't really bother me.

Food was so-so but the drinks were delicious. My husband says the big island iced tea was the best. Can't stop craving it. Mocha cheesecake was delicious! Service was fantastic. Very friendly!

Read somewhere this was the best burger on the big island and I am inclined to agree. Had the bacon Swiss and it was cooked perfectly. Tempura onion rings were the best I've had in a long while and they had gluten free buns for the wife. And don't skip the massive chocolate chip mac nut cookie!

I'm always in search of the best burger I can find, and Annie's hit the spot. I had the South Point BBQ Burger and it was absolutely delicious. Paired with their Annie's Hard Lemonade and their tempura onion rings. To die for! We'll be back!!! Also, Malcolm is awesome

Let me start with this, I've always liked Annie's. I've been here a handful of times, the past three times have been very disappointing. When my friend and I walked into Annie's for lunch today, we didn't get a friendly greeting from anyone with the exception of our waiter. The hostess looked irritated and wasn't the least bit friendly or helpful. Actually, her attitude towards us the whole time we were there is the reason that this review is one star. Later, I asked my waiter (who was super friendly!!!) what her name was and he told me "Kainani". A hostess is the first person you encounter, therefore, they're the first impression of your business. Even though my food was good, I will not be coming back. Mediocre food, gourmet prices and horrible service (with the exception of one). Not worth it.

I'm a burger lover, and this is hands down the best burger on the island, and perhaps the world. Order the basil garlic fries for sure. The onion rings are superb. The southern BBQ burger is heavenly. They also have specials every night that are worth a try. You won't be disappointed.

BEWARE!!! STOLEN IDENTITY RISK!!! We were twice weekly regulars at Annies for months and absolutley loved them- untill today. An employee wrote down my credit card number without my permission then thretened to call the police on us because I was not okay with paying that way. Manager publically embaressed us by loudly demanding that we sit in the restraunt until the credit card machine come back up or she will call the police!! (apparently it had been down since before we even arrived, but no one told us that until it was time to pay) Manager gave me 2 options: leave my credit card number written down in a very visible pile of other peoples cc numbers on the pay station IN THE MIDDLE OF A CROWDED RESTAURANT, or not leave... At this point I was so embaressed by the manager that I pulled out my drivers lisence and offered it so I could get away from the terrible situation. As we were walking out the door manager yells "Are you even going to come back for this?!" When I answered yes she told us to never come back after we do so. Everyone in the restraraunt witnessed the whole oredeal. I was so humiliated that I am now anxious about having to go back and pay/retrive my drivers lisence. It makes me so sad to see somewhere we used to love so much treat their loving/long term customers like this...

The highlight of the burgers here are the meat itself. Very tasty and perfectly cooked. My wife enjoyed the (beer-battered) fish and chips, equally tasty. Fish and meat are local. Made from fresh cut potatoes. Kids had the chicken fingers (also beer-battered?) and really enjoyed them too. All in all we can definitely recommend the place. As a bonus, some tables have a very nice view of the ocean. 4,5 stars for this experience.

The food here was good, but after all the hype from Yelp and some of the locals, we were looking forward to our best burger ever, or at least on the island. The staff was really nice and the restaurant was great but the food just did not stand out like I thought it would. I had the BBQ South Point Burger and it was good, but it came a little more cooked than I asked for (medium rare) and I think I made the mistake of cutting it in half to make it easier to handle, it ended up just falling apart on me. Also, I was so looking forward to their homemade pickles and was sad to find out they were sweet pickles instead of dill. Get some dill pickles in there and we'll have a party! Brandon had the burger with mushrooms and requested "please no onion" and unfortunately they brought it out with onion. He felt bad sending it back to be fixed but he really refuses to even touch onions. He also liked the burger but just was not blown away by it. The water glasses were filled multiple times though and the waitresses were nice. There wasn't anything wrong with Annie's and if I lived on the island I would give it a second chance, but since we were tourists we just didn't have time to give an ok restaurant a second go when there are so many other choices.

I have been a fan of Annie's since it opened. But my last two experiences have been so bad that I won't be going back. Last time, my fish & chips was so oily that I had five napkins on my player full of oil. The waiter made some comment implying that was the way it was supposed to be! The Cole slaw had some weird flavors, my stomach was quite upset that evening. This time we went for happy hour, again the pupus were incredibly greasy. The beer on tap was excellent. Too bad, I've really enjoyed this locally owned and operated restaurant. Luckily, I can cook for myself.

I'd had been dying to come here for a while, so we drove over from Honoka'a on Sunday...it was just OK. I was expecting it be the best burger ever...yet it was served on a cold bun & the bacon was super crispy dried out. I had cole slaw as my side, it was tasteless & soggy...the 3 at our table wouldn't eat it. For $16. I was expecting to be blown away but soo not. My friends had to send their burger back, they ordered med-well yet the bun was saturated in blood...so we didn't even get to eat together. Super bummed local gurl here!!

EFB (Even Faker Buddhist formerly known as Fake Vegan) and I ate here twice on our tour of the Big Island. We were coming back from Captain Cook and City of Refuge and were starving but this was close to 3:00 p.m. and most everything was closed until 5 except for this place. This place seems quite popular with locals and tourists alike. It is definitely where the cool kids work. kind of like the Trader Joe's vibe. Find my review of Trader Joe's for a detailed explanation. So the buzz in the place isn't quite the same as the rest of B.I. It is a little west coasty. But the service was still fine. EFB and I both ordered the Catch of the Day sandwich. How could we not and it was delicious. I had onion rings and EFB upgraded to the basil garlic fries and they were not kidding about those ingredients. If you are a couple that likes to kiss, I would recommend that both of you have the fries. Right before this trip EFB had revealed that he never wanted me as his girlfriend, really only his concubine. So I didn't care what his breath was like. As far as drinks go, I ordered a Mai Tai. All of the juices were fresh but it was light on alcohol, which is just fine when it is 3:00 anyway. If you want a strong one go to Kona Inn. EFB I think ordered a beer. The second time we came, I ordered the Catch of the Day Fish and Chips and EFB ordered the Veggie Burger Vegan Style. I had a bite, it was excellent. He claimed everyday that he was going back to veganism right after this trip. I guess this burger was practice. We were together ( I thought as his true partner but seemingly, I was under a veil of disillusionment) for 2 years and I've seen both the the vegan side and the Fake Vegan side. He was much more robust of a man as an animal protein ingestor. This, though does not concern me anymore as I've existed my role as his concubine.

My first 5-star review for the entire west coast of the Big Island goes to Annie's! I ordered the Steakhouse burger with grass-fed local beef as a 1/4 lb patty instead of the 1/2 lb patty. This only saves 50 cents, but it saves me from a heart attack. (-; This local grass-fed beef is very fresh, with a great chargrilled taste, and not salty at all! I adore the yummy toppings like Annie's housemade pickles, bleu cheese, hamakua mushrooms, and other delights. My Mojito with garden-fresh mint was one of the best Mojitos I've ever had. Yay! That put me in a jolly mood! The friendly hostess seated my husband and I at a window, where we watched the tail end of the after-sunset colors on the horizon below. The service was great! Our server swiftly replaced my purple sweet potato salad with fries upon my request. Annie's has a full bar, which is great fun. I highly recommend this casual, friendly restaurant for beef or fish burgers or fish and chips, and drinks from the bar.

Soup is HOT! That's a huge plus for me. Fried and crispy and seasoned perfectly...get the basil garlic, with aioli. If you have Keiki with you they will gladly get the food going for them right away. Water was on the table by the time they sat us. There was a huge group of 17 that was in our area so good took a little longer than usual, but we were looked after by at least 4 other waiters. Water filled fast. I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.

I had the bacon blue burger with garlic fries. Amazing burger, the fries were really good. Actually garlic chunks rather than seasoning. 2 burgers and 2 garlic fries was $40 out the door. I definitely recommend this spot.

Many establishments strive to provide service, quality, creativity, and ambiance. Some accomplish an attribute or two, but rarely do you find a restaurant that can make you feel at home, provide great service, utilize the best ingredients (grass fed beef) available, create tantalizing meals to tease your taste buds and satisfy the most descerning. Annie's is just that place! Drive up to a quiet street to restaurant with the bustle of the best NY dinner and you're greeted with an enthusiastic host (Matt). Jessie, our server, ensured everthing was perfect. The menu is unparalleled in the contiguous 48 or anywhere. Grab a seat and hold on. This old time restaurant will amaze you. Annie's is my go to for incredible grass fed burgers, basil fries and cheesecake. The only challenge, it's gonna cost me an airline ticket everytime I have that hankering, but it'll be worth it.

Drive out of our way to eat here based on reviews. 3:00 pm and they closed for a holiday party. Seriously? The middle is a work day? Who does that? Well, I guess they do. Not cool.

Came to Annie's because of the great reviews craving burgers. Place is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. We came around 1pm and had a 15 minute wait. Once seated, looked over the menu. I ordered the Bacon Swiss, others the South Point and Bacon Bleu. Took a long time for our burgers to come out. The burgers were very good. Meat was fresh and juicy, bacon and swiss a great combo. I thought the service was slow, but this is Hawaii. Also thought the prices were high but this is Kona where all the restaurant food was expensive. Overall, a very good burger and we'd come back if in the area.

Great fresh juicy Burger ... Nice cold beer. A bit to pricey to enjoy often. Update: I went back again and was very disappointed. The burgers had not been seasoned at all and tasted very watery, and the fries were very limp, they just fell when we picked them up. My husband just couldn't hardly even eat it, but we didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I had the fish and chips, the batter was good but you don't get much for the price, I got 3 very small pieces of fish on my plate. The drinks were good though. We had a good time overall, the staff is friendly the food just lacked flavor. It may have just been an off day for the cook though.

Excellent food and service! Our server Josiah was friendly and sweet. I had their special-pesto burger and my husband had fish and chips. Seriously one of the best burgers and I love burgers...the meat was cooked how I ordered and everything was so fresh and just yummy! Also a great location!

Came back for more as my last meal before ending my trip and couldn't be happier I did. This time I had the fish and chips and it gets another 5 stars! I'm convinced everything on the menu is great. Our waiter, Malcom was also the absolute best. I will miss Annie's when I'm back home!

When a place advertises it has the best burger in Hawaii (not just the Big Island), you know it's either awesome or awful. Yeah! It's awesome here! Great burger (perfectly cooked to order), onion rings, and fries. The poppers were fried goat cheese balls and didn't have the jalapeños I was looking for. The dark chocolate pudding is an unusual offering but the best either of us had ever had.

First of all the Food. Absolutely amazing and great quality. Burgers are fresh and juicy and the fries are great. 2nd the Staff. Very friendly and accommodating. I asked to be seated at a window table and there wasn't one available. After being seated a table by the window opened and I asked to be reseated. They took care about it. Finally the chocolate pudding was amazing. Worth the visit. You won't be disappointed. Also forgot, great Island Beer selection on draft.

So good! Burger selection is awesome! They also have great beers on tap with recommended pairings beside each burger on the menu. Beautiful views and friendly service! I had the Bacon Bleu burger. It was huge! But the flavor a were so good I ate the entire thing. Do yourself a favor and drive up the hill to this place

Great burgers on New Years Day! The younger members of our party were able to get a basic cheese burger. The spice burger disappeared quickly. I like the grilled habi (fish of the day) but my mom found it too fish. It would have also been better suited to a bun than the two pieces of of bread it came on--the second half didn't have much fish. The lilikoi spritzer and lilikoi martini were both lovely, neither was overly sweet!

If there were more than 5 stars, we would give them more. The burgers were so good - if you are a burger lover, you need to come here. The fish and chips were a near religious experience if you can believe my wife. Already planning in coming back, wish we knew to come here at the start of our vacation.

  • William C.

My wife and I went in for lunch. We split a burger and it was just the right size for a late lunch. The lemonade was great too. It was sour at first because I was expecting it to be sweetened. After the first taste, it was refreshing and thirsty quenching. Great character. They advertise an ocean view. I didn't see it; but that didn't detract from our lunch.

    (5)
  • Sam S.

Pricey but great burgers. Only fault in the burgers would be when the patty is placed on the bun. My wife's bottom hamburger bun and mine were soggy when the plates came on. I love a juicy burger but I should be the one to press down on the patty to force the bun into wet submission. I love me some nice buns so I hope they look into when the hot meat is placed on 'em.

  • Jace P.

Definitely a solid burger place, but not without its faults. Let's get the obvious out of the way: they have the potential to make amazing burgers. The beef quality is well above average (for the mainland), the buns are good, the ingredients seem fresh, etc. Everything is there... ... but this place did miss a bit for me. Our server made it a point to ask us how we wanted our burgers cooked and illustrate what that meant ("medium is going to be a pink center with clear juices..."), but when we got our burgers, they were both well done. No juices at all. That kinda sucks. My burger was almost amazing. I got the bbq one, with the onion ring and bbq sauce. There was hardly any sauce, so I asked for more. It was good, but if it had been cooked properly (medium, not well done) and been sauced more, I would be giving this place 4 or 5 stars. Service was also a bit spotty. I asked for onion rings instead of fries, but received the fries, and had to ask for onion rings separately. They came when I was almost done with my burger, which isn't the best. On the other hand, it was a HUGE basket of tempura onion rings that were pretty good. Ranch wasn't from a bottle, and was pretty good. I think when these guys are on, they're probably fantastic. But they were kind of off when we went, and they were just okay. I imagine the average is higher than 3 stars, but... there it is.

Ok this is the real story. I give it 1 star because 1 person was nice. The waiter was a space cadet, the burgers have a great concept, big island beef and all organic. Sounds great right ? Well, when all 6 of us got our burgers ordered medium they where burnt up like hockey pucks including the bun at a price of $ 14.95 each. Onion rings where good, hand cut fries good, side salad great. All the sides where mixed up with wrong burgers, and when I politely mentioned I ordered fries and he had the slaw the waiter looked at me like I was a jackass. 6 people the bill came out to $151.24 before tip. And the burgers sucked we have been at the beach all day and all we could think about was these "great burgers" we heard about I wish I would have went to Wendy's instead big disappointment. How could you ruin big island beef like that ?

Most frustrating lunch experience I've had on the island. Was told it would be a 20 min wait... 40 mins later still not seated. Ordered to-go and was told it would be about 10 mins... 25 mins and counting. Not impressed so far. Have no food to even review at this point

Excellent find 7 miles outside of Kona. One of the best burgers, onion rings, and shakes with a nice outdoor view. I don't give them out often, but a full 5 stars all around! Food: 5, Service: 5, Atmosphere: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 3 (I remember the burgers being more expensive but was well worth it!) Return worthiness: uh, YEAH! How about tomorrow? Eve award: see above and I'll declare the best burger, shake, and onion rings I've had on any of the islands Highlights: - Burgers: moist, juicy, well-seasoned, and overall delicious! - Onion rings: airy, crispy and light--magnificent! - Shake: a special mixing vanilla ice cream with their famous dark chocolate pudding was utterly amazing. We had to tear it away from our 2 year old to get some before it was gone. Bonus points for something so fabulous being named Hapa ;-) - BBQ burger: loved the combo of the cheddar cheese, sweet oniony thick BBQ sauce, avocados, and crispy onion rings. The bun was soft, a bit sweet, and not too thick - Service: loved our friendly and very cute waiter - Atmosphere: wall of windows overlooking a nice tree view - Lemonade: sparkly and not too sweet. Very refreshing Lowlights: - Expect to be in a major food coma after eating here Phenomenal burger I would definitely come back for.

Holy awesome mushroom veggie burger! Meh red potato salad. Outstanding service. A solid 4 stars due to the pricyness, which wasn't a surprise, but as a vegeterian, i wasn't expecting to rack up the bill we did... but that just means the food was good. That said, their outstanding service is likely what justified the premium pricing. We ordered the goat cheese veggie poppers (NOM!!) but some of them broke and we only had some empty shells in our order. They dropped them off and said "here start eating these, we're making you another batch on us". In other words, they didn't keep us waiting, nor did they mess up the order of our meal... and they kind of gave us a bit of free food. *golf clap*

Annie's was an awesome pit stop on our way to snorkel at captain cooks- We shared the fresh catch of the day (Ono) wasabi sandwich which had a creamy, spicy flavorful wasabi sauce. The fish was fresh and delicious - kudos to our server Danielle for recommending it medium well, medium might have been a bit more raw on the inside then we care for We also shared the poke burger, which is a lot like a crab cake burger, but it much prefer the poke to crab. The pesto Mac was awesome, I recommend it over the fries. Big shout out to Kyle - who was really helpful in providing us with tips for our upcoming snorkel adventure- he gave is a lot of good info, and checked the swell for us Really cool spot- hope to come back again before we leave for the stupid mainland

I don't understand why everyone seems to love this place. Food was mediocre. Service: inattentive and the food took forever to come. Prices: expensive for soggy French fries, tasteless buns, greasy onion rings, and so-so burger. In fairness, the fresh grilled Ono was good, but overpowered by too much bread. Two words: tourist trap.

  • Jo Ann H.

Annie's serves delicious hamburgers, but it is over priced despite the fact that the beef is from Hawaii. My boyfriend had a absolutely divine chicken sandwich and a beer for dinner. It cost him over $20.00. If you want a good burger and chicken sandwich, you'll find it at Annie's, but remember that you will have to pay for it. You can get a better burger at other establishments on the Big Island at 1/2 the cost. Annie serves fine wine and beer and a root beer float which is a bizarre combination of libations. Regardless, if you want a good hamburger from cattle on the Big Island, then Annie's is the place to go. Unforunately, you have to pay a high price for your meal. Bon Appetite! Grind'um down!!

    (3)
  • D M.

The only reason Annie's doesn't get 5 stars is because of the pricing. I feel it's overpriced for a burger, but they ARE using local ingredients, which lessens the blow. Lots of vegetarian & vegan options available. The Good Karma burger and the Mala Burger are both amazing. The French fries used to be delicious, but for some reason they're all tiny pieces of overcooked potatoes now (idk what happened). Wait staff is very friendly and down to earth. They genuinely want you to have a good experience. The restaurant features interesting local artwork and has great vibes. Check them out!

I've had Annie's bookmarked since last year when I was on Big Island, and I finally got back to come get some. This was definitely the best meal we had all week; my Steakhouse Burger was all-around perfect. The garlic basil fries were so good that I wanted to get another basket, but I was too stuffed from the huge burger I had just inhaled. I will be back for sure.

Usually pretty good burgers but staff are less than attentive. Rather go to Ultimate Burger or Kohala Burger & Taco. Just as good, better service, and a bit cheaper.

The place had one of the best burger I tasted. It gets very busy very early in the evening regardless if it is weekend or weekday. It does take reservation but if you don't insist then staffs would just tell you that you don't need one. I had the Ahi Tuna Burger and a local brew, the Tempura Onion Ring is a must.

  • Pam M.

I've been here 3 times since moving to the island 6 months ago and unfortunately it can be hit or miss! The first time was AMAZING! 2nd time was mediocre and today for my 3rd time was really bad! Let me clarify: the service was friendly and prompt - how the burgers were cooked is my compliant. They were very overcooked and tasted like burnt grease on the outside of the patty, they really need to clean their grates more frequently during a shift.

  • Greg E.

Good burger and onion rings! Busy, lively place too. Went back a second time but the place was just packed (which I guess is a good sign). However, the 30 minute wait was too long for us, so we passed. It was on a Saturday at lunch time...so we half expected it to be very busy. We will definitely go back there again!

  • Melody W.

Mixed review for Annie's. Great ambiance, has a tropical open air feel, young hard working crew, but our 20 minute wait to be seated was actually 60 minutes, just an off night I think. Excellent margarita with Lilikoi. Hubby's burger was delicious, perfectly cooked and beefy, I had the Wasabi catch of the day which was Ono and perfectly cooked and delicious, and the fabulous onion rings!!! It's just a bit pricey, sandwiches are around $15.

Annie's is another great food stop south of Kona. Chances are if you have been driving south of Kona, you have seen this place - it is the restaurant with all of the cars parked in front of it. Once inside, the place feels sort of like an adult tree house. It is in the jungle, built around the trees. They literally grow through the floor then out of the roof. There are about 20 tables, so you may have to wait when showing up, especially if the parking lot is full. Don't worry though, there is parking behind the building. Waiting isn't that bad here as there is a bar counter, couches, and high top tables that you can enjoy a drink at while you wait. This seemed very nice for just a burger place. The staff are funny, hard working, and entertaining. They all seem like friends and interact with the customers as if they are their friends as well. The food was very good. I went here twice, once at the restaurant and once for takeout. I had the ahi burger and the blue cheese burger. They were both very good. The best part of the meal was the sides. Diners get the choice between fries, sweet potato fries, slaw, or salad. They were all very good and flavorful. I would definitely go back for the food.

First time here, had the bacon Swiss burger with the Lavaman Red Ale and it was terrific. Music a little loud for a Sunday night but that would be my only complaint. Our server Malcolm was very friendly and provided great service. Win.

Pretty dang good burger. Great flavor and well cooked. The onions rings were the bomb, the batter was like fried dough. The atmosphere was great, unbelievable views. Server was quick and pleasant. Enjoyable experience.

  • Tom M.

I highly recommend the onion rings which are very crispy, with sweet onions. I made the mistake of ordering fish and chips which came after the onion rings and it's just too much fried food between the two. Save room for the chocolate pudding or do like we did and get it to go to eat later. It's very rich with smooth dark chocolate flavor. On the critique side, the fries were mix of over cooked ones and normal, like they came from two batches. Still taste good, but just odd. My wife and son both ordered their burgers medium, but one came out pink in center and the other was cooked all the way through (well). As many of the reviewers pointed out, there's some lack of consistency with their cooking. But as my wife pointed out, they're cooks, and not chefs. So as long as you're ok with it going in, the food tastes great.

  • Addie S.

Friendly staff, clean restaurant and restroom, parking lot... All pluses in my book! Now onto the food! I ordered the Ultimate Classic Burger with Garlic Basil French Fries. My husband ordered the BBQ South Point Burger with pesto-mac salad. Both medium rare, it ended up being cooked a little more when presented, but still a little pink. The burger was delicious as were the fries (crunchy and a little soft, just the way I like them). Our only comment is that the bottom bun was soggy by e time the food came out. The price point may be a deterrent to some patrons, but we have definitely paid more for a burger. I was happy that we stopped by here for a meal. Those fries are just perfect to me. We will return if we're ever in the area.

Hands down the best burger on the island! In addition to the delicious and perfectly cooked burger, I ordered the garlic basil fries, which was excellent. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. Would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

We've been here three times in the past four years, and have had good service and most importantly, excellent food during each of our visits. Nothing like a delicious burger and beer to finish a day of snorkeling at Honaunau or kayaking at Captain Cook! Onion rings and goat cheese poppers were tasty appetizers. Burgers cooked to desired perfection always hit the spot and would be hard pressed to pick a favorite! Fries come with the burgers and are great though basil-garlic option was a bit underwhelming. Good happy hour specials too (3-6, I think). A must stop for any visit to the Big Island.

Stopped here after completing our day at the green and black sand beaches. The burgers are amazing and with the recommendation from Joey (our waiter) we added the garlic basil aioli to our southshore bbq burger and that topped it off perfectly. Fun restaurant with great atmosphere, a topper to our eventful day. You shouldn't miss this restaurant if you want an awesome burger (they do offer other items on their menu including fish dishes).

My girlfriend knows burgers. For God's sake she wore a tank top with a giant hamburger to Annie's. And...she gives rave reviews of her Ultimate burger. Concern drew over her face when our awesome server said they don't have tartar sauce to dip her fries in, but the frown went upside after her first dunk into the substitute of cucumber aioli. My bacon bleu was one of the best I've ever had. I love bleu cheese but clench my butt when ordering in burgers because sometimes it's just the overpowering cheese caked on. This however was turned into a tame sauce that kept the flavor but a perfect balance. Finally, the actually restaurant is what you hope for. Original artwork, palm trees inside, screen windows, and a happy vibe. They might as well play "cheeseburger in paradise" by Jimmy Buffet on repeat because that's what you'll get. Only negative from one person with us was her fries were overcooked...but she is pregnant so she has no credibility on food reviews :)

Annies claims to have the best burgers on the island, they were good but they were by far not the best. As far as I'm concerned if you want the best for burger go to Lavergne down in Kona. The burgers were pretty greasy and the fries were even worse. The lowest price burger was $13.50 or so and over price. Not that I would not go back but I probably won't.

Annie's Island Fresh Burgers were our last meal on our recent Hawaii trip and we were glad it was. Our flight out of Kona was at 10 PM, but we had a really late and big lunch that day. So we decided to stop by Annie's for a quick beer and dessert 'meal' and take two burgers to go to eat at the airport when we get hungry. The server was very friendly. We went in at first thinking to just get the two burgers as take out, but after looking at the restaurant, I really like the laid back atmosphere and the tables near the windows. The server then asks if we liked dark chocolate because they have a dark chocolate pudding dessert that he recommends. I LOVE dark chocolate, so we told him we'd like to have a beer and dessert and take the two burgers to go. The whole time, he was friendly and prompt. The beer and dessert meal was very nice lol... we were relaxed, having a beer, slowly working on the dark chocolate pudding (it was very rich and very yummy)... chit chatting about all the things we've done on our trip. The two burgers we eventually ate at the airport were very good. I had the bacon swiss and hubbo had the steakhouse burger. Both were very flavorful and even after a couple of hours (we had it in a thermal bag), it was still delicious and juicy. I can only imagine how much better it would have been when eating them in the restaurant, piping hot!

As I was waiting for my burger I notice the guy making the burger was doing it with his bare hands. He touches handles in the kitchen that other workers touch. He does not wash his hands when he goes back to making burgers. Maybe it is ok for other customers but not for me. Floor did not look clean by condiments area. Workers dresses whatever in the kitchen. It just did not feel clean looking in. To top it off my burger had the end cut of the tomato(at the stem) other wise it was a good burger but....

This is a pleasant restaurant about 20 minutes outside the hustle and bustle of the big city of Kona. lol. Service is 5-star here with a very pleasant and friendly young staff. The atmosphere is cool with palm trees inside the dining room going up through the roof. This is a very low-key, island casual kind of a place. Somehat spacious so good for large groups. The menu is decent size, going beyond burgers, but it is not cheap by any means. In fact, with burgers starting at $14 on up, this is about as expensive as a burger should get. Drinks are expensive too, like the Annies Lemonade which for $8 you get lemonade with a shot of house vodka in it. The food is solidly good, but nothing spectacular. Fish & Chips was a bit oily but the beer batter wasn't too thick. Pesto Mac Salad is yummy. This is a solid 4-stars kind of a place. I subtract 1-star as for the type of food (and drink) considering the casual atmosphere and the out-of-town location, the prices in my opinion are a bit too high, even for Hawaii prices. $15+ for a burger is borderline ridiculous. Tip: Get some gelato for dessert next door.

Tired and hungry after a day at Volcano National Park and stopped here. What an amazing find!! The burgers are huge and soooo yummy. Major plus for me was the fact that they are the last restaurant in the US that will let me take my life into my own hands and actually do a rare burger! My dads fish sandwich was a huge piece of fish too! The onion rings are made with Maui onions and boy is this a score! Great service and great music too!! Love love love!!

Stopped in here for lunch with my dad and a tired baby. He had the fish & chips, I had the mala burger (with the relish on ciabatta). Both were really delicious. Service was excellent--not only from our server but big smiles to my daughter from every other one who passed as well. Food came out quick and we were in and out fast, without feeling rushed. Just what we needed to get the babe home for a nap. We'll be back!

We were here on a mission... to find the best burger on the Big Island. Having already visited Village Burger in Waimea, we had read that if we were in this vicinity we should eat at Annie's. The choice of burgers was interesting, so we picked two that sounded good and shared. Both orders were delivered with fries, when we'd asked for one with potato salad - no biggie, he realized his mistake once he'd placed the plates on the table and brought a small cup straight away. The potato salad was AWESOME! Super-tasty. I only wished that the burgers were the same. The sandwich itself was fine, but the meat just wasn't as tasty as Village Burger.

My husband and I are here on the Big Island for our honeymoon. We found Annie's through a "best of" booklet we got from our hotel. When we arrived, we liked the small, homey ambiance of the restaurant. However, many servers walked past us waiting at the host stand and didn't say anything. It wasn't until 5 minutes later that a host showed up. Then, he sat us at a table by a big pillar and not even by the screen that overlooks the coast. After I had asked to move, then I relaxed more. We really enjoyed our dinner of fresh, organic burgers, but the service could use some improvement.

  • Martin M.

Location is nice, and food was okay for a burger place. They had a few local specialties, especially the daily fish special an options for vegetarians. We waited about fifteen minutes before the hostess even took our name, and even though there were plenty of empty tables it was about another 10 minutes before being seated. The onion rings as mentioned in other reviews were good, but the place is over priced.

Great place! Tasty sandwiches, interesting and local spins on traditional classics. I had the fresh catch- mahi wasabi sandwich. It was a large sandwich better for sharing but supremely good! Very happy we found this gem on yelp!

So very, very good. I had their martini special of the day (kumquat), the hubby had a beer, 1 Kona sauté burger & 1 BBQ burger, basil garlic fries, which were amazing, & the onion rings which were just very good. We will definitely be back.

Great find! Good food (local and organic) and the BEST service. The friendly laid-back dude from CA was one of the best servers we've ever had. Went out of his way to make recommendations and conversation, without being intrusive. Checked on us a few times to make sure we were happy with our meal. His service and the good food brought us back for more. They offer a vegan patty of chickpeas, carrots, poblano peppers, herbs, garlic, and onion - Mala Burger. You can switch this with any of their other burgers so you don't get stuck eating the same flavors combos every time. Their homemade coleslaw and potato salad was good. The only thing we didn't care for were their fries (a bit limp and tasteless). Extensive selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available. Nice view if you can get seating at the back of the restaurant. Well worth a visit!

Went here with the wife the other day. Easy to get to, good parking and great service. I highly recommend the lilikoi spritzer to drink. Super refreshing and delicious. I had the wasabi mahi mahi fish sandwich with the pesto mac salad. It was awesome except the sourdough bread wasnt great. I wish they put it on a roll or hamburger bun. My wife had the fish and chip sandwich and said it was great. The sandwich is huge though so might be a good sandwich to share. We also had the garlic basil french fries that were outta this world. Definitely a great lunch spot with a great ambiance.

The Mango Court chicken sandwich was tasty but the chicken slightly dry. The Kona Sauté burger was delicious! The coleslaw was good (not mayonnaisey). It's a bit pricey but worth the drive!

If you are looking for a good burger in Kona, this place will curb your craving. Decent size restaurant with few tables facing an ocean view. Our waitress recommended the "South Point Burger", as it won 3 years in a row as best burger on the west side of the island. Indeed, it was ono! The Herbed Goat Cheese Poppers was unique and good as well but be careful biting in as it is filled with hot cheese. Oh!! Don't forget to try their onion rings, the best I've ever had. I'm usually real picky on the types of batter used. As for a beer recommendation, the 'Moonpon IPA' is a good one to go along with the burger. Overall, it's a great choice since my man finished his meal in less than 5 mins. Hahaha

My review covers both times that I have been to this place. The first time was about a year ago for dinner and I had the fish and chips. It was so greasy that I could not eat much of it at all. Also tried the onion rings and had the same issue. The service was nothing to brag about either which is why I waited over a year to go back. I love that they support local farmers and businesses. So after hearing that somebody else had a good meal and service there recently I decided to give it another shot. This time I went there for lunch and had the bacon swiss burger. I ordered it medium even after being warned by the waitress that it would be almost rare. Well the burger came and it was well done for starters and then it wasn't really a patty. It was more like three clumps of overdone meat being held together by very little bacon and some cheese. Since it was overdone I asked the waitress for some mayo to cover up some of the dryness. Well she totally forgot and didn't come back to our table for over 10 minutes. Then when the bill came she charged us $6 for substituting a side salad for fries on my girlfriends burger. Not cool. I am not thrilled with the service or quality of food preperation here but I will possibly try them one more time ONLY because they support local farmers.

Burger was good. But, the onion ring, garlic fries and the fish sandwich are the attraction here. The fish was very fresh and perfect. The service can be slow sometimes and they over cook the kids burger. Still a great place to go.

Stopped for lunch after a kayak and snorkel at Kealakekua Bay. Burgers and beer for all four of our party. Beer was from Kona Brewing Company. Great to see local restaurants and breweries working together. Nice option to pick the donness of the burgers. All were ordered medium well, and arrived at our table as such. Meat and fixings on the burgers are locally sourced, and tasted amazing. The sides were excellent too, including the fries, coleslaw and potato salad. Service was excellent. If we come back to the Big Island, we will definitely come again.

If you are ever on the Big Island, you gotta check this place out. Salads, burgers, BBQ type place. We went on a Saturday looking for a place to eat. I was surprised there were so many restaurants only opened on M-F! They have a good selection of local beer on tap. Also, all the beef used is raised locally. Definitely hitting this place up when I'm back in Hawaii!

We came here on our drive back for lunch. Very good meal. I ate the mango chicken salad and garlic fries. The chicken was pretty dry but I loved the fries. The waitress was friendly. She forgot to put the fries on the check, but when I asked her about it she gave it to us for free :)

Great burger place. Had the ultimate classic burger with the purple potatoe salad, beer battered onion rings and my friend's fries. The grass-fed burger tasted home-made as did the fries. Organically grown vegetables from their garden to boot. Nice ambience with killer views overlooking the valley. A place that I would gladly come back to.

We stopped here on our way back from visiting "The Place of Refuge" and were in need of a place to eat. The restaurant is in a little strip mall but has good signage. After looking at the other Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try. The inside of the restaurant is decorated with local art and has a great view of the coast. We were lucky to be there at sunset and were able to watch the sun set as we ate. The only "complaint" I have is all the seats by the windows were taken so we had to sit a little further back, but that was to no fault of Annie's. The service was friendly from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Our food came quickly and was hot and cooked to order. My husband and daughter ordered burgers which were cooked to perfection. They both upgraded to onion rings and both got large baskets. The only suggestion I would have is to have one person get the onion rings and share and then get another side. But, the onion rings were delicious and some of the best I've ever had. I got the fish and chips and upgraded my "chips" to the roasted garlic basic fries. I could have eaten just the fries, but the fish was cooked perfectly as well. I resisted asking for my usual malted vinegar since it was not served with it and went with the sauces they offered. They were both very good and glad I went for the local fare. I would definitely recommend this place.

Best burgers and onion rings on the Big Island!! Not to mention the dark chocolate pudding! Omg it's all to die for! Service is beyond excellent! Every server is super friendly. The place has Palm trees growing out of it....it's all around a must go to when in Kona!

Great burgers and great service. One of the best burgers I've had in a while. Medium rare actually means something here. Highly recommended.

This place does great burgers. Every ingredient is fresh, local, tasty and delicious. The burgers are big and juicy -char grilled to perfection. The onion rings are big and freshly cooked. The night we stopped in, it was after 7 and the place was bustling. We were promptly seated and waited upon. Service was great, food was great. Nice little spot for a truly great burger in the Captain Cook area. They stay upon until 8 pm too (most places along that stretch of Mamalahoa Highway close earlier). We'll be back on our next trip to the Big Island.

Awesome eatery. Neither of us had a burger, ironically. My chocolate martini was okay but I've had better. The avocado chicken sandwich with purple potato salad was delicious though, and the fish & chips (basil garlic fries) my boyfriend had were good. Looks like there could be a wait to be seated as it's a popular place, but the 2 of us didn't have to wait long. Server was fast and attentive and food was delivered pretty quickly for a busy place.

Wow!!! These burgers are amazing! And the onion rings are the best I have ever had! I love the atmosphere here, very laid back and a good place to bring my whole fam. All the staff are super friendly and helpful. Especially the bar tender Kai, that guy is so nice and very funny. In my opinion, best burger and beer joint in Kona!

I visit Annie's on occasion. They are a little on the expensive side, but the food is fresh, local, and much of it is organic. They are one of the few places that a offer vegan option too. I always get the Mala Burger with the vegan option. This burger is almost like eating falafel in party form served on a chiabatta roll. Tasty, but sometimes it's a bit dry. This burger run $14.95, and includes fries. Today, it was awesome. My friend had the purple potato salad, and loved it. I also ordered a side salad. The side salad comes with blue cheese. So, if you're vegan make sure they know. Otherwise, you'll be picking it out. Service is hit and miss. It's been a lot better since they opened the extension.

Came back to the island and Annie's after 3 years and it is double the ONO!! This time it was Malcolm with his great attitude. People, try this place!! It will be the best burger you will ever have!!

The service is very friendly. I love how there are tree growing through the ceiling giving the restaurant a tropical feel. I ordered the bacon swiss burger with a side of garlic basil french fries. My GG and my mom ordered the south Kona sauté burger. My burger was perfectly balanced the bacon was smokey, the onions were golden, the swiss was prime, and the burger was cooked perfectly. The only complaint that I would make was that the bun was a bit too big for the burger, but the taste was amazing.

Far better than expected. Im a major burger fan, and way too picky about atmosphere, staff, ingredients, etc. We decided to give this place a try. This was one of the best burgers ive ever had. I cant explain why. The meat is island raised, and they seem to encourage eating it one scale rarer than I usually do. The burger was extremely juicy on the inside and had bits of crunch on the outside. Went with bacon and blue cheese, which was milder and creamier than usually served; a good improvement. Bun was very fresh Hawaiian style (slightly sweet) and made locally. Atmo is good, and not too crowded seating. BTW, my family likes to modify the heck out anything on the menu and this evening was no exception. Malcolm didn't even flinch and there wasn't one mistake in the order. Note: they seem to like to deliver burgers about one step less cooked than normal. Medium was more like medium rare, etc. Generally i get medium for burgers, but this meat was so good, i was thankful for the unexpected modification. They had a Poke burger which is supposed to be fabulous, and i almost ordered it but had Poke 9 times in the last 3 days already. Small selection of tap beers, and full bar. Onion rings were fantastic, and the jalapeno cream cheese poppers were very good, both delivered piping hot and in about 5 mins after ordering. Caesar salad was excellent, with home made dressing and the right amount of garlic. Staff extremely friendly efficient. If you are anywhere in the area, highly recommended.

Randomly stopped by this place for lunch after returning rental kayaks. Great place! I had the wasabi fish sandwich and it was amazing! The only real down side is that it closed so early so it's not really a dinner option when you want to avoid the bad tourist food that is way to prevalent here.

Yummm! We had burgers twice while visiting the area, once in Kona at a nice restaurant right in the water and once at Annie's and Annie's was far superior! And as a huge plus for me, they had gluten free buns! The fries were also delicious!

Out on a drive during our visit to the big island and we stumbled on Annie's when we were looking for a lunch place which wasn't easy on the outskirts of southern Kona. From the parking lot and activity in the restaurant, it was clear they were busy so we decided to try it. Service was very good and the restaurant was very busy. Lots of organic ingredients, grass fed beef, etc., not at all the usual on the big island! We couldn't resist starting with the onion rings - they were delicious although a bit on the greasy side. My son had the fish and chips, my husband a burger and I had the blt salad. It was all yummy. Afterwards, we walked next door to the delicious gelateria/bakery, all homemade goods and amazing! We will be back on our next visit!

The staff is very professional and the food is to die for! We order sweet tempura onion rings, ultimate burger, the steakhouse burger, and sweet potato salad. The burgers are very hearty and service was quick. The onion rings are a MUST!

This place is right by our hotel... The Manago. The outside does not do it justice it is very clean and attractive inside. Hostess said a table for 3 would take 10 minutes which seemed a bit odd since the place was less than half full but this was not a big deal. Server was friendly and attentive. The main reason I don't give this place 5 stars is the price. A burger with fries and a drink with tax and tip will cost about $22... Kinda steep for a burger joint. But the French fries were solid, the onion rings were the stars and the burgers were big and delicious. Although I ordered medium well and I was told the middle would be pink since that's the way they do it but mine had 0 pink again not a big deal because it was good and still tender n juicy. Overall yummy but pricey.

We were here a few weeks back in August, 2014. Was the perfect stop on the way from the airport down to the southern part of the island. Everything was so fresh - the fish and chips my husband had was delicious, the burger selection was great - mine was one of the best I've ever had! The beer offerings were great as well and the inside had a nice laid back feel. We wanted to go multiple times!

I was first brought to Annie's Island Fresh Burgers by a friend, and now I bring friends to Annie's Burgers. Nice chill location down south in Kealakekua. Occasionally they have a "Kona" moment, and by that I mean they forget something minor or they run out of something "special" they offer (gluten free bread for example). One big complaint, and believe me there is no excuse for this (I was born and raised in Kona and understand the situation), it's the bugs! I keep waiting to look up and see Jeff Goldblum from The Fly sitting across from me asking "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, perhaps she'll die."

Wow. I am one of the biggest burger snobs you'll ever meet; I've had my fair share of burgers, but there's something special about Annie's. The atmosphere is awesome. It's so light and clean, the service is superb, and then comes the food and the beer. I got a stout of some kind, but it wasn't this that made the biggest impression on me. The burger was to die for. I had the Steakhouse burger, and it blew my mind. The flavors of this burger were so delicate...the arugula, perfect amount of creamy gorgonzola, sauteed mushrooms and perfectly cooked patty were in perfect balance. I feel like a judge on the show Chopped when I talk about this burger, and I think this was the first thing I've ever eaten that made me understand what a burger SHOULD taste like. The burger itself has flavor...it's not just a hunk of ground beef cooked on a grill. It's just pure heaven, seasoned in the most amazing way. I've had many a burger that had similar toppings, but somehow the cheese always overwhelms the flavors of the beef and the toppings. Not this time. The very thinly sliced pickles and onions were a perfect contrast to the fattiness of the patty and the cheese. Every bite was perfect. I wanted to order another one, but I was stuffed. Do yourself a favor and try this. You have to take a bite and think about it...it's not the type of burger you just scarf down. It's got character. By far one of the best things I've ever eaten. At times like these, when I'm stuck in a Midwestern winter, I wish I could be back at Annie's with a cold beer and a delicious burger in hand. You've set the bar, Annie...no burger will ever be the same. In some ways you've ruined burgers for me, because no other can be this perfect.

GOOD burgers! Lots of different types. Small Cesar salad was also ONO. A little pricey for a burger but ultimately worth it if you are of a mind to take a Beef break. The fries looked overcooked but really weren't and tasted good. The onion rings were BIG & outstanding.

  • Christopher R.

I love meat! Obviously Annie's cooks love meat! They cook their burgers to perfection! Their burgers are so good, I had to try their Taro veggi burger. If they could make the stuff they make poi out of then I know they're good... Yep, damn delicious Taro burger too! The kids love their grilled cheese on SOURDOUGH and I love the kids veggi sticks! The basil fries and macaroni are good but save a little room for their chocolate chip Mac nut warm cookie that could feed FOUR! It's a great place EvERYTIME we visit! Please bring back your chocolate pudding everyone was talking about; for now, I can only imagine.

Just went there for lunch based on Yelp's reviews. Greeted in the beginning which was nice and service was good. Good start. Sat down and ordered the fish and Chips but upgraded to the onion rings and hubby had the fish Sandwich. Onion rings are very good but other stuff was o.k. Downfall is it's expensive and not worth the price.

Yes the burgers are the main attraction but the star of the show is that chocolate pudding. We were on day two of our day-of-chocolate circle tour of Big Island and had been to every chocolate shop/factory we could find. We tasted chocolate with nuts, chocolate with potato chips, chocolate cookies with lilikoi icing, shortbread cookies with dark chocolate dipped, mango dipped in chocolate, and we were on the final leg to home, not expecting any more chocolate, when we whipped into Annie's for burgers. When it came time for dessert, we learned about "the pudding". Four of us split the generous portion and with the intense flavor and dense texture, we were all satisfied. Who knew the best chocolate item of our expedition would sneak up on us in a burger joint? So if you're just up for burgers or you're on a chocolate crawl, don't miss Annie's!

They have the freshest burgers and fried on the Big Island! This must visit restaurant is a regular stop for us when we arrive on the island. It is located in a small strip of shops just south of Kailua-Kona. The service is always great, friendly servers, and the atmosphere tops off the experience with fresh open-air tables. We highly recommend also trying their dark-chocolate pudding, yum yum!

We got the wasabi made with the fresh catch of the day. Paid almost $20 for one sandwich+side. It really wasn't good at all. No flavor, chewy, generally yucky. I don't see what the hype is about!

Open tables and they didn't want to seat a single person at a real table. Other than tha, it was absolutely one of the best places here. The mushroom bulgar burger was fantastic and it was so great to see a vegetarian option and cooked correctly. The waitstaff and hostess were wonderful !!

Skip the Mala burger unless you're actually after a somewhat dry falafel sandwich. The BBQ "South Point" burger is a better bet, though still not anything I'd go raving about. Fellow potato lovers, I must tell you that though the house made purple potato salad may sound special, it's not. It's rather plain and definitely not a potato preparation worth getting excited about! The real reason to come here: for the cold, local beer (best sipped on the screened-in lanai to remind you you're in paradise).

My wife and I were looking for a good place to grab a burger on the Big Island and Annie's Island Fresh Burgers topped almost everyone's list. I have to say I agree. Fresh, island-sourced ingredients. Friendly staff. Amazing view. Be sure to check this place out when you're in the islands mon. Don't miss their goat-cheese balls and honey-chili sauce. To. Die. For.

We don't visit the big island without visiting Annie's, one word Amazing! My husband and I both had burgers and they were a slice of heaven! I had the fries with garlic, to die for! All was so fresh and home made our server was great. Don't trust the negative comments! Get there as fast as you can!

A truly excellent gourmet burger place. Our party of four stopped in for a late lunch after snorkeling at Honaunau Bay at mid-day, Staff was friendly and efficient. And each one of us was wowed by our meals. Make a point of stopping here when coming thru south Kona.

Very fun place; friendly staff; somewhat unique burgers. My burger was very enjoyable. I would come again. Nice dining room with Palm trees growing through the back area of the room. Open air screen have nice breeze to make it cool and refreshing inside. And well, you have to like a place that serves root beer floats!

  • Jennifer B.

Another over-priced restaurant for mediocre food and service. My food was super greasy, onion rings are too big to eat, the kids fries were burned, the avocado on my plate was going bad and they wouldn't take it back, the server told me that the kitchen said there's nothing wrong with it! Well, since I'm the one paying for the food and not enjoying it, I say there is something wrong with it and I don't care what the kitchen says. Not going back!

At $16+ for a hamburger... It's pretty good all and all, and if someone else is paying and you are hungry in Kealakekua... A better bet at much less price for food in the area is Rebel Cafe for Caribbean inspired food or Teshima's for home-cook Japaneses.

Good both times I have eaten here. First time I had poke burger with pesto macaroni salad and the second was a garden salad with seared swordfish. Both times the service and food were great. Ok, so were the drinks. I opted for a Bombay martini with my salad since I'm tired of Mai Tai's and sweet drinks, and it was pretty well balanced with the vermouth. I definitely see us coming back before our trip is over.

We went here based on so many positive reviews. I got a burger and my wife got the fish & chips. When the server placed the food on the table, he smiled and said "enjoy"! My wife and I both looked at the food then to each other "gawd look at the grease"! The fries and fish were sooooo greasy! The burger came with an onion ring fried with just as much grease. It had a piece of lettuce, a VERY thin slice of tomato and barely any BBQ sauce. It was so bland and tasteless. The coleslaw had WAY too much pepper in it. My wife tried to eat her fish but couldn't stomach the grease. I usually finish what she doesn't eat but I had a hard time eating it as well. The place was very clean and the staff was very friendly. Folks... I can put away some food and RARELY gripe about food. I'll eat just about anything, but I have no idea where all these positive reviews are coming from. I don't even mind overpriced food if it's good but do yourself a favor and PASS on this place...unless you enjoy overly greasy food!!

It was good! However it wasn't amazing and not a place I would make a point to revisit unless I was in the area. I ordered the Chicken Guac sandwich and the chicken was very dry with zero flavor. My boyfriend ordered the daily special which was a fish sandwich. He said it was good and the French fries were great. We had good service and didn't wait long for anything.

Well, this is difficult to rate. We were steered here over Ultimate Burger from a friend that lives here in the area. First, the wait was 45 minutes on a Saturday evening. We were in no hurry, so it didn't bother us much. After we were seated and ordered our dinner, Bohemian Rhapsody came on over the speakers and the enter restaurant broke into song, belting out the lyrics at the top of their lungs. One guy who was feeling no pain even jumped up on a chair and raised his glass. It was fun. We overheard a waiter say that he had worked at Annie's 3 years and that had never happened. Now, the food that we waited so long for was not good. The cheeseburger was seasoned ok, but it was dry. The meat had too much "char" to the point of burnt. The bun was better than store bought, but it too was burnt. The worst was the Fish Sandwich for $18. It had no flavor, dry, and was on two pieces of thin toast that was also burnt. It came with cheap condiments and not near enough wasabi sauce to give it any flavor. So disappointing. I am curious to read other reviews. Maybe something has changed recently because this place normally great reviews.

I highly recommend Annie's Burgers. It's worth the drive if you are staying in Kailua. The service was outstanding and the burgers were delicious. My husbands's burger was so big and juicy, he had to eat it with a knife and fork. He couldn't hold it! Our food did take a while to come out, but Dirk, the manager, noticed that we had been waiting a while and offered us something to eat while waiting. He brought us some of the purple potato salad and onion rings. Both were delicious! He explained that the problem was that the grill was small and we had come in at the end of a big rush. That's why the long wait. The waiters and waitresses all work together. At least four people stopped by our table including Dirk who talked with us quite a while. It made for a very enjoyable dining experience.

Based on the yelp reviews, we decided to try this place for lunch. Our server was G. He was very friendly & recommended what was good. He was also quick to help us on what we need. Aside from that, the burgers were awesome! :) Here is a list of what we ordered; *Onion rings - very good & crispy. (I don't even like onion rings but to my surprise, these were really good!) *Poke cake Burger - this is what I got with fries. Very flavorful and juicy! Yumm!! *Bacon Swiss Burger - my brother ordered this. I had a bite of it & it was good. It was on a different kind of bread. *BBQ South Point Burger - another good burger to try. My parents ordered this with purple potato salad. The burger and the potato salad were both delicious. I was very satisfied with these burgers. They were all juicy & flavorful. Plus good customer service. I would definitely recommend this place. I would love to come back to try a different burger. :)

Annie's was a disappointment. The burgers were OK- a little on the dry side. The garlic basil fries and the onion rings were borderline burned. But the biggest letdown was the service. We were completely ignored, not even asked once if we want a refill for the soft drinks. This place is not worth the hype.

Wow! Just wow. Starting with the first impression of this place while driving by, you don't receive any special impressions of this place. Just a plain, same-old burger place. However, as you walk in, you are going to be wowed by the well designed and decorated inside with a classic, but at the same time, modern style restaurant which eases your eyes. Food is just absolutely mouth-watering, just looking at the next table's dishes. I have tried half of BBQ south point and south kona burger, and both were on the point with juicy patty and crispy veggies. Service was just the icing on the cake. Our server constantly checked up on us to refill our drinks and clear the plates. Definitely check out this place!

Annie's does a pretty good job as it has a bit of a local feel with a nice business culture. Annie's does however need to get their fries properly blanched so they are a bit more crispy when served. The burgers are good and made with big island grass fed beef.

Went out of my way to eat here based on reviews and my friend's recommendation. I did not like the onion rings, fries or burger. Their ranch was also gross, I think it is made in house. The service was good but that's about it. The meat tasted like rubber and we ordered medium well. I don't understand the hype to be honest and it was pricey! But hey, it's Hawaii.

  • Dean L.

Yes, $12-$16 is pretty expensive for a burger. But that's what you'll pay at Village Burger, Harbor Seafood Grill, or Cafe Pesto. Anyhow, what do you expect in a place where a loaf of lame white bread is $6?! Furthermore, the burger I had at Annie's was better than the Wagyu burger at Village Burger, or the blue cheese burger at Cafe Pesto (and those weren't bad). Most people would probably prefer it to that at Harbor S.G., but I really loved the juicy inside and subtle char of the burger at that joint. What I liked better about Annie's was the variety of burgers available. I got the BBQ South Point burger, with BBQ sauce, cheese, onion, tomato, lettuce, and two SICK onion rings resting on that bad baby. I chose the purple potato salad as my side, and was glad. My wife had the fish and chips (Mahi), and enjoyed it. She rated them 3 stars, but the breading separated too easily from the excellent fish to rate higher. She appreciated the delicious tartar, and felt the fries comparable to the fish. Kid had-- what else?--the grilled cheese, and ate it all. Finally, we splurged and split a ramekin of the chocolate pudding, you know, because it isn't enough to be full. You've got to make your gut hurt. This is the thickest, richest pudding you'll probably ever eat. The atmosphere of Annie's is really nice. It is open-air, with a spacious, casual feel. The classic rock was just loud enough to recognize and buffer you from other diners. The young host was full of character, and shared the specials with us as if they were the most important creations in human history, instead of being simply a list of junk to repeat to disinterested diners. He sold my wife on the tomato-basil soup immediately, and it was better than that at Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill. This was a convenient lunch stop for us on the way back to Hapuna Bay from an overnighter at Volcano.

Oh this was so great. Between Annie's and Da Poke Shack, I would fly back to the Big Island just to eat. The onion rings were the second-best onion rings I've had in my life, and I order onion rings everywhere. My boyfriend LOVED his burger. Our waiter gave me great advice about local beers and, without my asking, brought me a side of some random spicy sauce to try on my veggie burger, which made it miles better. He also persuaded us to get the chocolate pudding for dessert and it was divine. So rich, so chocolatey. The premises are lovely -- airy and bright, with colourful decor and giant windows. The one letdown was the patty on my veggie burger, which was a little overcooked. But everything else was so good, I'm happy to overlook that.

Fish was fresh and salad was good. I took out one star because my son ordered his burger burger and it was way too dry and burnt, he doesn't like wasting food so he ate it anyway. Otherwise, Fish and organic salads got most of the stars.

Kinda off the beaten path but I heard this place is worth the money. Saw the menu and noticed that they had these grass fed burgers on the menu. I just could not see spending $16.95 for a burger. It is a burger. Large selection of desserts, sides and local beers. I ordered the fish tacos ($16.95), three of them stuff with ono, cabbage & tomato with a special sauce. Very tasty but wait... what happened to the rice and beans? I might try the burger next time but still at $16.95 a burger. I repeated myself on purpose. Someone give me a coupon. Good service and great vista views off the lanai. 3 stars for the fish tacos...

Just a phenomenal place for lunch. I had a poke burger - which is poke formed into a patty, covered in panko, and fried just long enough to hold it together. With aioli, sliced avocado, and house made pickles, it is probably the best ahi sandwich I've ever had. My spouse had a Kona Melt, which was also great. The potato salad was tasty but on the sweet side, and the mac pesto salad was a little more oily than pesto-y, but still good. If you like to eat heavy, try the garlic fries!

we loved the burgers and the great breeze going through the airy restaurant. The bathrooms were about the only thing not quite up to par. The service and food were very good, and would go back again.

Not too many food options in the area and Annie's had good reviews so I stopped by. I ordered a burger but didn't think anything really stood out about it. I had upgraded my side to garlic onion fries which were quite yummy. My favorite item was their onion rings which tasted like it was made using fresh onions, unlike the frozen pre-made onion rings that most place use.

Finally got tired of eating fresh fish and decided to look for an awesome burger joint for lunch up in coffee country. 4.5 yelp stars, wow this place has to be great .... right? Walk in, everything looks cool, waitress is cool, all local ingredients, nice view overlooking a quaint Kona village. 1/2 lb fresh local grass feed beef, (cooked medium) with vine ripe tomatoes, cheddar cheese, onions, local mushrooms & homemade pickles. Ordered mine with a toasted Ciabatta bun & hand cut french fries. Asked the kid who sat us down if the beef came from the Parker Ranch. He said Parker what, never heard of it. Neither did the waitress, should have walked out right then & there, but all those yelp stars influenced me to stick it out. The burgers shows up with less than a 10 minute wait, they look awesome, I can't wait to bite into this madman. Snag a few of the sautéed mushrooms before I close the lid on this monster. Tasty! Now comes the bad news ...... absolutely no flavor! NOTHING! I don't know if I ever bit into a more boring tasting burger in all my life ... especially one that looked so fantastic. Tomato was thin and flavorless, pickle was not a pickle, it was a cucumber slice in vinegar. Got zippo from the Ciabatta bread, no taste from the cheddar cheese, razor thin red onion added a hint of flavor, but nothing and I mean nothing, was going to help that grass fed "milk cow" beef. Bland on Bland. It tasted like a burger dreamed up by a vegan who never dared taste the thing themselves. Which is probably not far from the truth if I must enter a guess. The burger down at Don the Beachcomber may start with a frozen patty ... but it sure rocks the socks off this dog. You've been warned!

This place was overhyped. Food is over priced and not all that good. Burger was ok, Fish and chips were bad as were the fries. Onion rings were good. Too over priced and under delicious to earn more stars.

Annie's has great burgers, it might be the best burger on the island. However Annie's is not cheap. I would go there more often if the price was lower. For the price of a burger, fries and beer you can go to a high end restaurant and get a meal.

Amazing! You must try the goat cheese balls. The atmosphere was great and the waitresses were helpful and knowledgeable. Great place for a burger!

Love this place! Unfortunately I was here on a business lunch so I couldn't get to sample the various local beers and drinks they had (Lilikoi Rum Spritzer hellooooo???) I was more than satisfied with their food. The restaurant is rather small and I would not recommend a large group here. I would say maybe 8-10 at max. Its got a nice open-air to it with large open bay windows overlooking the coast and some foresty area. A take-out counter is also available. Garlic and basil fries for starters were excellent. Not overly garlic-y and not overly herb-y either. Tempura onion rings were pretty standard. Most of us got the Poke cake burger which I was afraid would be too dry, but was actually very moist and not too oily either. The cucumber aioli on top was also delish! Pretty pricey though at about $15 a burger (which comes with a side). Portions were fairly large.

This place definitely deserves it's 5 star rating! It's funny to think that my favorite meal on this island is the burgers at Annie's. Especially given the fact that there's fresh seafood all over the place and I absolutely love seafood. Hands down, this place was my favorite meal on this island. We ordered the Steakhouse burger and BBQ burger, Purple sweet potato chips and onion rings. Ohhhh my god, the BBQ burger was SUPERB. I thought the onion rings in the burger would be a bit much, but it was perfect. It gave the burger a nice, crispy crunch. The BBQ sauce is fantastic and gives the burger the perfect punch of flavor. I can't say enough great things about this burger. My boyfriend also enjoyed his steakhouse burger, but the gorgonzola cheese was super strong so it drowned out some of the flavors of the meat. We also loved the purple sweet potato chips and onion rings. The chips were light, crispy and had a unique taste to them. The onion rings were probably one of the best I've ever had and usually I am not a big fan of onion rings.

Fries - overcooked and nasty Fish and chips - the fish is not bad, but the tarter sauce is lacking in flavor. Cole slaw - too much pepper. Did not bother to eat mine after first few bites. Wasabi burger - nothing special. Fish is lacking in flavor. Also slightly overcooked Stay away from the fish if you come here. I'm guessing all the high ratings are due to the beef.

A Must on Kona! Succulent burgers, cold beer, beautiful atmosphere, outstanding service! I randomly drove by this place on my way back into town, Never have I received such outstanding service. Dustin was very welcoming and helpful when choosing the right food items, Sara was an excellent waitress along with the rest of the staff. It seemed like management hired the right people who have mucho aloha spirit, cause everyone was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the South Point BBQ Burger and the Chicken Mango Salad. May be the best prepared burger I have ever had. SO ONO! MAHALO ANNIES!

Annie's is fantastic. I've been to Annie's at least 5 or 6 times and LOVE it, it has become one of my regular places to eat. Don't miss the poke cake burger or the fresh fish sandwich with wasabi aioli and their excellent fries and onion rings. They also have great salads, burgers and a good selection of beers on tap and bottled too. This place is a gem and should NOT be missed. It is a favorite of locals and tourists alike. I also want to give a call out to their really friendly and efficient wait staff, especially Gee (?).

AH-mazing!!!! Best burgers on the island for sure. My husband had a true rare south point BBQ burger that was to die for. We were seated quickly, even during their rush and the food was served hot and promptly. Kids, hubby, and I were all ecstatic with our burgers and left completely satisfied (which is saying something since I am a bit of a food snob). The servers and wait-staff were awesome and really made it a great dining experience. If you love quality food you MUST eat here at some point. Enjoy!

We had lunch here while on our way to the south side of the island. The restaurant from the outside doesn't seem much, but once we walked inside, it's a pretty cute place. We got a table by the windows at the far end and I love how there are a lot of trees outside so it feels tropical (as Hawaii should). For lunch we got the onion rings, one of the beef burger (South Point Burger??? I can't believe I forgot which one we ordered!), the Poke Cake Burger, and the Chocolate Pudding for dessert. We got the onion rings because of the yelp reviews saying it's really good, and indeed it was good, but not as special as I hoped for. Both burgers were superb! Patty was juicy and everything about it tasted good. The Poke one was yummy as well, especially if you're in the mood for seafood (mmmm I want some now). The waiter said the chocolate pudding is good for two, but good thing we only ordered one coz it was definitely good for the four of us. The pudding is so chocolate and creamy. Highly recommend finishing the meal with this dessert.

My local tour guide friend brought me here for lunch, I'm not good with remembering where exactly along the highway Annie's was located, so to help me I look for some local landmarks along the highway when driving from Kailua-Kona town. First past Teshima's Restaurant, then past Oshima Store, past Sandy's Drive In, next stop is Mango Court on the ocean side of the highway which Annie's is located in. We both got the original burger and shared a basket of fries. If I remember correctly it's made with range free beef from the Big Island. Burger was nice and tasty, see photo. According to my friend, they also expanded the size of the restaurant so there is alot of seating now from what it was before. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely come back when I'm on this side of the island and try other items on their menu.

This Restaurant is not what it once was. I had the Fish and Chips, the was fine but the batter and Fries were cooked in very old Oil and it showed in the taste. The side dish of Coleslaw must have been a couple days old as there was no crispness left in the cabbage just mushy. Very disappointed as this was once a great burger place.

Always a joy to eat at Annie's. Great burgers, killer fries, perfectly ice cold beers on tap. You can't find better service or better burgers on the entire Big Island. Annie's is a sure hit year after year after year. It's a wonderfully managed, well-executed eatery. Case in point? Their milkshake maker broke soon after we placed our order...and the GM HAND MADE one for our little girl!! As GREAT as it gets.

My favorite meal on the island. Good service and great food. Everything on the menu sounded so good I had a hard time choosing what to order. Opposite of what I have experienced at other restaurants on the island. Most of the time I have a hard time choosing because nothing on the menu sounds quite like what I want. They need a place like this down in Kona. Great local artists shop next door too. 5 stars for yelp too as I would not have known about this place without yelp.

It is hard to find a good gluten free burger anywhere in the states - never mind in Hawaii. These guys do it with style and make it amazingly well. Juicy, fresh meat that is cooked to perfection and served by friendly helpful staff. This place is a real find and should not be missed.

Went here based upon all the good reviews and some locals stating that the burgers were awesome. I was thinking that maybe the bad reviews were people being too picky perhaps....Nope, the bad reviews were spot on! Please trust me people reading this review. Actually, I hate to give local businesses bad reviews; it kills me because of the big box world and corporate crap that is out there killing small businesses. This burger joint needs a good scolding though. I am going to dive right in and just say that we ordered our burgers medium and all of them, 5 total, were all well done. What the hell is that? I spoke to the waitress, jessie i think that was her name, to let her know that the burgers were all well done and instead of correcting the problem I got lectured on how the grill may have been too hot and the meat could still have been cooking and the heat transfer may have continued cooking the meat. Do you think I am stupid? You need to account for all those factors when you cook people. You are a restaurant that specializes in burgers that's it; nothing else!!!! You need to be on your game folks. If you screw that up at $14.50 per burger and offer that insulting explanation don't be in business!! You folks should be ashamed that you take locally grass fed beef on the island and murder it in that fashion. What makes it worse is that nothing was given to compensate for the terrible blunder except attitude by some kid waitress that wouldn't know how cook toast. Just trust me people this review is spot on... if you want an over priced, sub-standard burger by a group of people that do not know the difference between medium and well done give it a try. However, for people that know good and properly prepared food just drive on by.... Thanks for reading.

We had the goat cheese poppers for starters, absolutely delicious!! Next came our entree, which was the fresh catch sandwich.the fish of the day was Ono, it was served on sourdough bread and had a delicious wasabi sauce, again, delicious!! We will be returning, hopefully soon. Service was great too, very friendly & attentive.

I always get the South Point burger. The last visit I got a South Kona and a BLT salad. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I'd stick to the South Point from now on because it's consistent and it's what made me fall in love with Annie's. Their garlic basil fries are ok, too much basil and not enough garlic. Service is hit or miss, regardless of how busy the place is, and it could get very busy even at Monday at 3 PM. The burgers are a bit on the pricey side, but are well worth the dollars spent. It is huge and can pretty much fill you up all day. The ambience adds to the charm of the experience. Artwork, light airy feel makes you feel like you're hanging out at your cool friend's house whose mom is always gone on trips and lets you do whatever your mom won't let you do at home.

The staff are are extremely friendly and accommodating. Best service I have ever received on the island. The food was fantastic too. I don't like potato salad, but my friend ordered it and I tried it..... I LOVED IT!!! A must try is the Fresh Catch Wasabi sandwich. Delish. I liked the fries, but will definitely order the potato salad next time.

Really great food. Chill setting. Burgers are very good and tasty onion rings, garlic fries, and poppers. I loved the purple potato salad. I would have given this place 4 or 5 stars but our server was really bad. The server's assistant was great. We had to ask the server where our apps were, then they came out AFTER I had already finish my burger. She also forgot my brother's drink. After realizing her mistakes I think she was embarrassed so she completely disappeared. And the restaurant was only half full. The busboy did everything, including delivering the check. I would still go back, but our experience was diminished greatly by our server. It was kind of a bummer.

Delicious veggie & portabello burger. (I slightly preferred the portabello - we came back a second time, and I tried both.) The garlic/basil fries are also great, and the cheesecake was pretty good too (though going next door for gelato is not a bad option either). Great location for a sunset dinner: beautiful screened-in porch with trees growing right through it.

One word: Disappointment. We were told this place was great by a couple we met at a luau. Heres why it was a disappointment: 1. Very expensive: Get ready to pay 16-20 for a hamburger. 2. Small portions: I remember thinking, "if I'm going to pay this much for a burger, I hope I get an insane amount of fries." I literally only got 10 or so. I could of got the same qualify burger in Seattle for half the price. If you want authentic Hawaiian food, not the place to go.

Still delicious as always. it was a pleasant but not unexpected surprise to find out that the place is expanding and the walls looking out have been replaced by large sliding doors really bringing the outside in. On this visit i ordered the firecracker burger and was expecting a little bit of a kick but the firecracker kind of fizzled with the first bite. Our fries were also delicious but over cooked on the first order; the next order was much better. All the waitresses were wonderfully attentive and our tiny diner devoured the chicken fingers. It would be great if they had a grilled chicken option in the future. Looking forward to returning on our next visit to the island to see the newly expanded dining room.

Solid burger and fries. My man had the BBQ burger and I had the fresh catch sandwhich. It wasn't mind blowing which is why I'm not giving it 5stars. Good place for a lazy dinner or lunch.

I absolutely LOVE this place!!! The burgers are juicy and delicious and have great choices for toppings (most of which comes fresh from the garden! I'm talking some real farm to table ish going on here). My fave was the BBQ South Point burger. The goat cheese poppers are also delish, and, well the dark chocolate pudding just cannot be missed! It will knock your socks off. And change your life. Seriously. Also recommend the Annie's hard lemonade - such a delicious, refreshing alcoholic beverage, made with fresh squeezed, carbonated, lemonade. YUM. Perfect way to end (or begin) a day at the beach and wash down that burger. The service there is just awesome and the vibe is great. Kai is amazing!!! So sweet, attentive, and friendly. Really makes you feel at home. Gotta love supporting a place with good people running it. Definitely recommend this place if you are on the Big Island. It is hard to find good food there, and this is by far the best meal we had while on the Island. Do yourself a favor and go there...multiple times. You won't be disappointed!

Annie's is the place to eat, the food was cooked perfect and the flavors were spot on. Nothing worst than sitting down to eat and the food doesn't fulfill your palate. Well we all walked out of Annie's very satisfied. We were still talking about it to people at a luau as the place to eat.

BBQ burger was fantastic - homemade thick patty w/ BBQ sauce, avocado, and an onion ring. And the garlic basil fries were amazing. Staff were friendly and attentive - several chip in making rounds, not leaving it to just "your" server. Pricing not bad for gourmet burgers/chicken - $15. All in all, great atmosphere, great food, great staff = we'll be going back soon!

Hailed as the best burger on the island, Annie's Fresh Island Burgers did not disappoint. I had the BBQ Southpoint burger which I highly recommend. This place is on the pricier side as far as burger joints go, but they serve fresh fish, grassfed beef and organic produce from their garden out back, rounded out with friendly waiters and local beers on tap. I'll certainly be back.

This place is fantastic and gets better as you go. From the outside, it's a plain unassuming burger joint. Inside, you get some nice kitschy decor with like Wyland-esque paintings all over the walls. Once seated, you notice the spectacular view of the hills and ocean out the full wraparound window, and the trees growing through the floor and out the ceiling(!). And then your food arrives, and it's amazing. 5 stars.

G is a great waiter- he totally put up with my wacky family in a charming way. So charming in fact that everytime we go my dad ask that we say hi to G for him. The ONLY place that will serve a rare (rare as in tartar) burger. It's no joke rare. South Point Burger is my go-to burger. House made onion rings+avocado+house made bar b que sauce+ extra rare burger= my happy belly. Wash it down with a Black Bute Porter (or two). Really though, Annie had me at "Our rare is cold in the center" SCORE! Literally the only place on the Island that we'll go for a burger. Can you open one in Hilo!?!

I get a little freaked out payin 12 bucks for a hamburger and fries. But like Samuel Jackson says, " that's one fine burger". Wait staff always friendly and helpful. And love that they use all local ingredients. Finest burger on the Big Island! Gotten to be a Friday night tradition.

Ok. Food is tasty-to be sure. The 3 star rating comes from a few factors: 1) my order was incorrect (wrong burger) 2) my friends order was incorrect (lettuce when no lettuce was requested) 3) The jalapeño burger did not seem to contain jalapeños. Good beer selection.

i was craving a burger so we drove all the way from south point to eat at annie's. it's hands down one of my favorite restaurants on the big island. you can't go wrong with any of the burgers and everything always tastes fresh. the staff are super nice too. apparently they grow their own vegetables too. i love that. eat at annie's to experience the best island beef burger!

The menu looks impressive, but they fail to deliver on taste. I went twice because I really wanted to like it, but I was disappointed both times. Location and ambiance is nice. Its open air and it feels more like a metropolitan restaurant than your typical Big Island place-to-eat. I had the Steakhouse Burger the first time and the charring was so overwhelming I couldn't taste the beef. The bread wasn't warm or toasted, it just tasted a little stale. The overall flavors just didn't pop. The second time I had the fish and chips which were unbelievably greasy and missing any real seasoning. They really skimped on the fries too. Then its just the little things...watered down lemonade, aioli sauce that tastes more like mayo than herbs, tiny sides, etc. It all adds up to less than what you are being asked to pay. Service was friendly but not attentive. I had to flag down our server to ask for refills which finally came at the end of the meal. If you are being asked to pay $14 for a burger, I don't think its wrong to expect it to taste really good. Okay to skip this place.

A decent option for burgers, salads, and desserts. We went there twice on our vacation and both times I was not terrible impressed but it was decent. A couple of pointers: if you order the potato salad as an appetizer, be prepared for a VERY small portion. It is served in the same container as what came as a side to my burger (and they still charge over $4 for it). The second time I ordered the garden salad and it was more lettuce than anything else and light on the dressing. However, everything was fresh (and I believe mostly local). The service was friendly and quick. Overall, a place worth checking out, especially if people are looking for burgers and desserts. They have two vegetarian burgers on the menu, one of which I tried and was unique and flavorful.

Atmosphere was cool. Food was mixed for us. I got the mala burger. It was basically a falafel burger. It was just ok for me. Kind of had a taste of too much dried spices to me. Hubby had a Swiss mushroom burger and he didn't care for it and gave him major gas all night. However, those onion rings were the redeeming part of the meal-- so light and delicious, and the onion split easily when bitten instead on pulling the whole thing out of the batter.

A hidden, hidden gem of the big island. We had the poke burger and time stopped. When time resumed the burger was gone--- and so were the Japanese purple sweet potato chips. We ordered our poke burgers extra-rare (they shallow fry it) and it was a good decision. The patty was tender and flavorful with that bright fresh flavor that only Hawai'i fish can have. The bun it came on was a perfect balance of fluffy and chewy. We washed it all down with a glass of hoppy and spicy local beer. I fear the vortex I fall into when I put Annie's foods in my mouth. However, the next time I go to Hawai'i I will put on a brave face and have another adventure here. Also, be sure to check out the sweet map of the island they have painted at the entrance, it shows where they get all of their ingredients, very impressive. And appetizing!

I ate here 3x in one week and had the Fresh Catch Wasabi Sandwich each time (each time the fish was Ono seared at medium). It's really that good and well worth the price. I would go as far as saying that Annie's makes the best fish sandwich that I've ever eaten which puts the seared Ahi burger at The Fish Market Maui now in second. Annie's fish sandwich contains a very generous portion of fish, a nice hit of wasabi sauce topped with sliced cucumbers and a tempura battered onion ring. The sourdough bread is not too sour and the crunchiness of the toast really enhances the experience of the sandwich. There is a leaf of lettuce, sliced tomato and rings of raw red onion served to the side of the sandwich - I let the wasabi sauce and juices drip on the lettuce and tomato as I was eating the sandwich and ate these items at the end. I've tried the coleslaw, purple potato salad, and french fries as my side during my 3 visits. The coleslaw has a little too much celery seed and raw red onion for me, the purple potato salad is very good but I like the french fries the best which are made from fresh potatoes, fried to a nice brown, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and sprinkled with large salt granules. I love that Annie's is open every day too from 11am to 8pm so you don't have to worry about timing your snorkel and finding great eats afterwards.

Very disappointed. First the good which is a few of the staff. Unfortunately we ended up with the worst waitress they had. She was the only Samoan girl working at the time, I believe her name was Shan. Next the food, it is the most oily greasy over fried food I have ever had. The classic burger tasted like cardboard, thank god for the mustard and ketchup to give it some taste. We had read good reviews, so why not try it. But I hope this review is a warning. I created a yelp account because this was such a bad restaurant. To top it all off, it's expensive. There has to be a better burger place.

Stopped in yesterday after seeing all the glowing reviews, and found that they were deserved. I had a swiss cheese burger that was wonderful, with fries that were excellent, and onion rings that were light and delicious. It's a peaceful location, nicely decorated, comfortable and relaxing. Our server, Dan, was on top of things, and we must have had three different people check on us to make sure things were to our liking. While I had ice tea, they have a wide variety of beers and wine. I was quite impressed! About the only thing they are lacking is wireless. I wish more restaurants would realize that in this day of smart phones free wireless is pretty much expected by a pretty big segment of the dining population. Still highly recommended if you are in need of a burger fix!

Well, got off work yesterday and got my kiddo and just wanted to eat out...really wanted a burger. We went to Annie's because it is down the street from my house. I was hesitant because i have never really been impressed with the food. But gave it a second chance. I ordered the swiss burger and my baby girl ordered a burger. All i can say is it was burnt to a crisp and so was her's. My 4 year old took it upon herself to tell the waiter and get a new one lol ( i am doing something right) I on the other hand choked mine down, well because i was starving and didn't want to wait for another one. The wait staff is good, he said this happens when it gets busy , the cook stacks up a ton of burgers and whoosh they start on fire...?? Maybe you guys should get a new cook, cause i spent $14.95 on that stinking burger and it kinda pissed me off. That is alot of $, if you are gonna charge that much for a burger then make it good EVERYTIME!!!! This is the 2nd miss for me, and it says you won the best burger for 2014? I don't know how...buns are good, coleslaw way to much pepper guys and fries could have been cooked longer...maybe your cook was off his game again last night? Not sure if i will be back.

The food is good..but a little overpriced.Burger was too burnt and the garlic basil fries were nothing special onion rings had too much oil. Our server was fine but only checked on us at the very end..never refilled our water or asked if we wanted another beer, she even seemed annoyed with us for no reason. our bill came out to over $50 for 1 beer & 2 burgers and a small side salad. This place is overrated..

On the first entrance the parking lot was completely packed. This for Me is a sure sign of a great restaurant. I'm not picky about a restaurant with no parking. It means there's something gooood going on. We have to wait five minutes the Most comfortable couch know to man. See it or sit it to believe it. while waiting on a cloud we were approached by a sweet and customer friendly staff which added to the Experience. About the food: Delicious!

In an area where there really aren't many good places to eat Annie's does stand out but not as much as the previous reviews would suggest. Taking the burger out of it's mountain environment and vacation setting, it's a decent burger but has it's flaws. Pro: The burger is definitely made from locally grown beef which is great and much juicier than if it were pre-formed or defrosted beef. Con: The prices are very high for what you get. The cheapest burger starts at $12.95 (basic 1/2 lb cheeseburger). I was also shocked that after I got mine with grilled onions, that the onions were pre-grilled and came out from the refrigerator which meant that they were still very cold on my burger. Another negative is that the french fries do not seem to get the same care and attention that the burgers do which is a shame as well. $12.95 for a burger should mean that I get a consistent plate and not just a quality meat with inconsistent supporting players. Would I come here again? Probably if I was really, really, really, craving a burger which is not very often. My usual stop is Manago Inn while I'm in town and I get a much more consistent lunch from there and pay about $3 less to boot.

Food was awesome. Recommended by some locals, we stopped by after a long day of snorkeling. We ordered a burger and the ahi sandwich. Both were excellent and fresh. They use kona beef which we were specifically looking for a place that servers this. We also ordered the goat cheese poppers. We are going back tonight and taking the rest of the fam.

Large, juicy, flavorful burgers. Exceptionally friendly and gracious service. The onion rings were to die for, fluffy and tasty batter. Made good cocktails too. Great atmosphere. This review is from a person who has consistently been disappointed with food in the Hawaiian islands. Eat here!

Annie's restored our faith in restaurants and served as redemption after a seriously underwhelming lunch earlier in the day. I'd read reviews and checked out the menu before arriving in Hawaii since i like to get my research on pre-travel. Thanks to my not-so-great phone GPS I drove right past it; it's on the west side of HWY 11. Fortunately my friends saw it and eventually I was able to turn around an unfortunate distance further down the road. It was Halloween and the little town was popping, with hoards of hooker lookalikes heading to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. We'd been rushing to get there as much as possible before 8pm closing. The restaurant is pleasant and airy, with several large ferns and other plants, and at least a couple comfy-looking couches. We were allowed to choose a table. It looks like there would be a view to the water during daylight. I was glad to have a light jacket at night since the windows are just screened in. My friends loved the goat cheese poppers; I declined the offer to try one since a traumatic experience as a child has led me to have a strong aversion to anything made with goat milk (it tastes like goats). I got the burger that's made with chickpeas and other veggies. Can't remember the name, but it's basically a felafel burger. Upgraded to the basil garlic fries. It was so good!!! All of my friends loved their food which was great because I'd pushed for us to go to this place and would have felt badly if they weren't happy with what they ordered. Since two of my group had eaten disappointing burgers for lunch, this was an even better experience since it made up for the blah lunch. Service was good and our waitress was really sweet and seemed genuinely pleased when we expressed how happy we were with the food. The only minor issue was that our dessert order was misunderstood so we just got two pieces of pumpkin cheesecake instead of three. I noticed that we just had two boxes so tried to ask if there were two pieces in one of the boxes and a girl said yes, but I think she misunderstood and was just telling me there were two total. However, we were only charged for what we got and we still had plenty of sweets. The chocolate pudding is amazing! My brother got a macaroon and that was great as well; the coconut tasted way fresher than it has in other macaroons I've eaten. We plan on eating out for dinner tomorrow, our last night on the island. May just head back to Annie's for seconds...

The burgers weren't as good as the reviews made it out to be. I was expected a burger that would be really great, it was above average, but not great. I didn't try their other food since my family and I went only for the burgers. However, we liked the atmosphere, very open and clean. Still, the best place so far for burgers has been Splashers in Kailua town: bigger and tastier hamburgers and cost around $10 rather than $12 at Annies.

This place is great. Great service, atmosphere and above all food. They source locally and that includes the Big Island Beef and veggies. Burgers were cooked to order and the fries were great. Stop by Annie's and when you leave go left and grab some Donkey balls!

Once upon a time, there was a van full of hungry friends (4/5 vegan) on vacation, driving furiously to get home from the lava flow and make dinner. The sun began to set, the day began to wind down, and suddenly a quick jaunt to the other side of the island was a long, long, hungry road trip. Just when it seemed the van of vegan friends might swing to the dark side and take a turn at cannibalism, Annie's Island Fresh Burgers came into view on the side of the highway. Now, some of you unfunny/wholesome/green folks might be thinking a burger joint is an unlikely place to find a delicious vegan dinner, but my partner had been here before when the grocery store, Island Naturals, was still in business next door, which is how he came across the vegan burger option at Annie's and which is how we knew there'd be a good chance they could feed us. Refreshingly, the restaurant has some of the least kitschiest Hawaiian themed art on the island (some of the art on the walls I wouldn't mind living with in my own home in Vancouver). The staff were laid back and friendly, making jokes with us, keeping our waters topped up, and checking back with our table as needed. Apparently there is an amazing view out the back of the dining room which opens up over the hill towards the ocean in the distance, but I can only imagine as we came after sunset (see first paragraph). We ordered 4 Mala Burgers (if you ask for it vegan, they skip the tzatziki). This involved a deep fried chickpea-based paddy with a golden, crispy outside (this paddy held together better than some home-made chickpea paddies I've had at other restaurants) topped with rings of crisp red onion, the reddest tomato, lettuce, and in-house made pickles and lime coleslaw all on a fresh ciabatta bun. I ordered mine with the regular hand-cut fries. My partner ordered his with garlic basil fries sans aioli. It's pretty cool that each burger on the menu has a suggested wine/beer pairing. I definitely wanted to try this, but they were out of the Mala Burger's suggested pairing, Green Lakes Organic Ale. I had a shaken margarita with salt instead (tres boozy). They got our topping requests a little confused (my boyfriend's garlic basil fries came with our friend's tomato-free, onion-free burger) so dinner wasn't flawless, but it hardly ruined our day! We will be back.

We were so looking forward to sinking our teeth into the poke sandwich, which came highly recommended. Unfortunately, when the time came, we literally could not eat it. The texture was something akin to really chewy, tough meat with a lot of gristle. The fresh grilled fish sandwich featuring Ono was equally disappointing and lacking flavor despite the wasabi sauce. The fries we're quite limp and unexciting. The service was amazing and our waitress and the management quickly tried to make us happy with a new entree. We ended up splitting the chicken guacamole sandwich which was quite over cooked and again, lacking flavor. We tipped our server very well for doing her best to make us happy, but we will not be back. We gave 2 stars instead of one because management really did try to make us happy; they did not charge us for the meals we sent back. Kind of feel bad about the rating because service rocked. By the way, this the first time EVER that we have returned a meal at a restaurant!

  • Ann S.

Skip the burgers (wow, what a disappointment along with one of the servers) and go for the dark chocolate pudding. This was recommended by a chef friend of ours who couldn't stop raving about it so we had to try it. Pudding is not something we would normally order at a restaurant and at $4.50 a pop it's a serving big enough to share but you're gonna want to get your own. It is in the top 3 best desserts we've ever had in our lives.

  • David S.

Not bad for burgers and fries/onion rings. Good beers on tap. A little pricey, and we always leave feeling like we need a shower from the grease. That's our fault for ordering what we do, though. Service can be spotty, and wait times are sometimes a bit much.

I don't normally do reviews. I'm doing this one because I think there's a disconnect between the 4.5 stars overall and what you get there. The fries and onion rings were well above-average. My burger was squarely in the "meh" department. Nice quality ingredients, but lacking the craftsmanship that makes me think, "Worth it!" My wife's French onion soup was similarly disappointing. The kid's menu was perplexing - virtually the same prices as the normal fare. Why bother? Service was good. Ambience too. I'm used to things costing more here in HI, but for this place, I'd say the either the quality has to come up or the price down.

  • John L.

I felt deceived, I read the menu on their website, sounded good, natural burger for $7.00. Got to restaurant only to see menu price for the same burger $15.00. When I ask the server I was informed that they know about the discrepancy but have failed to update the website in the 4 years they have been in business.

I had to eat at a place that pretty much has a 5 star rating on Yelp, but honestly, I think it's overhyped. Good burgers, but definintely not "as good as it gets." Great casual atmosphere south of Kona, a good place for lunch on your way to other parts of the island. Nice menu with interesting toppings. Everything is very fresh. Hubby had the firecracker version with jalapenos and pepperjack cheese, and I had the mango and goat cheese chicken sandwich. Both were good, but I've had simtilar burgers/sandwiches elsewhere. Particularly for the burger, the meat to bun ratio seemed a bit off and the bun was a bit dry. The standout for me was their onion rings! Mmmm - wonderfully light batter, salty and crisp. These were perfection! Not sure if I'd make a special trip out for these burgers, but it's a solid lunch spot if you're in the area.

Quality has gone down. This was the best burgers place in Kona. Now not worth the drive. I had the bbq burger it was sweet, not enough salt or seasoning. Garlic basil fries were greasy.

I think this would be 4/5 stars, if not for our server, KAI (or did he go by G?). He was fantastic, enthusiastic, happy and smiling always. He had great recommendations, quick to help us and grab needed items. He was fantastic. Oh yeah, and the food was good too. Especially the poke patty burger!

    (5)
  • L L.

As you would expect, the burger was delicious. Everything you would expect and more in a fresh, local patty. Having said that, if I'm paying $12+ for a burger and they ask how I want it cooked, it should come that way (isn't medium rare the normal way to eat it?). Avoid ordering the sides, they come in tiny portions. While my review isn't perfect, I'd still come back, just to get another taste of that burger!

    (4)
  • Annmarie M.

We had a nice family lunch here. The burgers are indeed "fresh" and taste a little beefier(grassy?) than a "normal" burger. They are very delicious, though, and juicy. I got the special which was a guacamole burger. I was a little surprised to see the guac was not green but yellow, no matter it tasted good. The highlight was the ice cold brews and the light as air tempura onion rings. We got the home made ranch on the side-- delicious. Kids meals are available, and the view out back in pretty, all the way to a peek a boo look at the ocean beyond. Service by sweet gals was friendly, fast and very attentive.

I had my 1st hamburger at this restaurant 11/9/12. Without a doubt, this was the best hamburger I have ever eaten in the Universe. You really have to watch the road when driving up Hwy 11 but it is about 6 miles from Kona on the west side the the highway. You can forget adding anything to the burger, it's got what it takes. No ketchup, mustard or any of that kind of thing. Don't order any side dishes, it comes with a choice and you won't need much else. Great with a bottle of wine, sitting in the Condo and watching the sunset as we did a takeout. They also ask you how you want it cooked. That's a big hint there, that tells you this is going to be different. We come to Hawaii every year, same time, same places and we will go there again till we can't do it any longer.

Mmm...great service and huge burgers. I had the BBQ burger and our daughter had chicken tenders. The children's portion was huge. We were going to order the chocolate pudding, but the waiter said honestly not the best batch, a little runny. Quick and good!

As a guy who enjoys a good burger (and a good beer), this place caught my eye on our way to snorkeling Two-Step. We stopped by on the way back to Kona and had the best burgers we would find in Hawai'i. The beer selection was good, not great. But the burgers were beyond compare. After spending a few hours in the water, this place hit all the right spots. Highly recommend, look for the "Burgers & Beer" sign.

Been coming to Annie's for a while now...never had a bad meal here. Tonight was the Classic Burger (with cheddar and bacon) with coleslaw as a side. Wife had Bacon/Blue Cheese with the Pesto Mac Salad. My burger was the best I've ever had. Have to say, the Pesto Mac Salad was better than my slaw (not that it was bad...it's just that her's was better)! We finished dinner with a little dessert...I had the Dark Chocolate Pudding, and she had the Cookie a la mode (chocolate chip with Island Dreams vanilla ice cream). Pure heaven....We both were in a food coma afterwards! The best burgers I've ever had!!!!

Extremely tasty burgers and the garlic basil fries are excellent. Blue/Bacon burger tasted extremely fresh and Poke (fish) burger was described as delish by wife. My son had the Bacon Swiss , and though it was too big to finish, he couldn't wait to take home and finish a bit later. Overall, a great meal.

First of all the decor and design is great. The patio has huge screened windows and trees growing up through the floors. The tables are all spacious and well spaced out. The bar if also a great new addition. The burgers are good, sometimes I think the cook has an off day or I end up coming when the grill needs cleaning, but overall my family and I keep coming back. The staff is friendly, the beer is cold, the manager is great. Worth going to and going back to. PS - The Firecracker burger with extra jalapenos is so yummy, but not for those who don't like spice.

I was traveling in Hawaii for a week on Oahu and the Big Island and hands down this is the best meal I had during my entire trip by a landslide! We heard a few locals recommend this place and decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed. I ordered a salad which had local greens fresh out of someone's nearby garden (it was amazingly fresh greens- you forget that greens can be this fresh) along with some cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced onions, and crumbled cheese- all lightly tossed before it arrived to our table. It was one of the best salads I've ever had. Simple items in there but thoughtfully prepared. I also ordered their Good Karma Burger which contained a stuffed portobello mushroom along with all sorts of fixins on there. The best mushroom burger I've ever had. It was the correct proportion of "meat" to bun and I ordered a side of their special purple sweet potato salad which was a take on the regular potato salad but with a Hawaiian twist. My dining companion got the BBQ Burger and after months of trying to find a good burger, he finally discovered one of the best burgers he's ever had. He had a few onion rings that he let me try and these onions rings were so delicious and I don't even normally like onion rings! The fries were also prepared very nicely and weren't too crisp but rather fried to perfection. The service was outstanding at this place and there is a nice view of the ocean in the back of the restaurant. Wonderful place to eat and if you only go out for one meal while you're on the Big Island in Hawaii, go to Annie's!!

Great burgers, awesome fries cute place. The meat is really fresh, cooked correctly to your level of done-ness and and with a really nice variety of topping. The Purple Sweet potato salad was great, and was something I had never had before. Really good onion rings as well. The Garlic fries are worth making a drive of some distance for. This place is a great stop if you are doing a coffee tour of the area as well

A MUST stop if visiting Kona! Best Burger in a long time - and in the running for best burger EVER (and I consider myself a burger snob - I basically lived off In N Out during my college days - and the last time I ate a McDonald's burger, we had an actor as President). Fantastic service, great views, reasonable prices (hey, it's the Big Island - what do you expect?). I had the BBQ "Southpoint" Burger - unbelievable, with 2 golden crispy onion rings between grass fed beef and melting cheese. Tangy sweet BBQ sauce, and 3 huge slices of avocado. Oh, and please order the Fries AND purple potato salad - you will not be disappointed in either. You can thank me later.

I can't say enough good things about Annie's. The burger selection is awesome and they are very clear on their cooking ranges (medium = pink inside) and they cook to order. I had the Wasabi catch of the day and it was delicious. The Mojito was excellent too! They are only open until 8pm, but even if you come in at 7:50 pm, you are seated and treated with the same level of service as someone coming in earlier. The wait staff is SUPER sweet! They even chatted with my son about the volcanoes he just saw. My son got the steakhouse burger and it was so tasty! Gorgonzola and mushrooms. The meat itself was fresh and cooked perfectly. I'm not big on red meat but I took more than one bite of my son's burger. The wasabi fish sandwich had the hint of wasabi but it wasn't so hot that it was hard to eat. I wanted to try the poi potato salad, but didn't have room. I got cole slaw (peppery and not TOO creamy) and my son got the fries, which were perfect. The back of the restaurant is screened in and you get a nice sound of crickets, etc. with a cool breeze. I just loved this place and would go back any time I'm in the area! The desserts looked great, but we simply didn't have room. Next time! There's plenty of parking and the staff was just so friendly. Best burger place around!

Hipsterish burger joints seem to be a continuing trend nationwide and I'm glad that the tide reached the shores of the Big Island. This is one of the better eateries in the Kona area. It's a few miles away but it's worth the short trip especially if you're heading towards Volcano, Hilo or Punaluu. The chocolate shake is a must-try. It's de-lish. The onion rings are on the saltier side (they use varying helpings of sea salt) but still damn good. Oh and if you've got room try the macnut chocolate chip cookies. I had the Good Karma portabello mushroom burger which was tasty. The hippie in me appreciated the focus on local/sustainable ingredients. The parking lot seems a bit crowded at times. Although we only had time to grab and go, the folks eating in seemed to enjoy the atmosphere and the view. Definitely worth the trip.

In my life, I have eaten a lot of hamburgers--arguably, more hamburgers than has been prudent. Most are decent; some are very good; a small handful are exceptional. Annie's is easily in the top five. I ordered the steakhouse burger with goat cheese. Even for Hawaii, the $12.95 price seemed a little steep. It was worth every penny. The burger was half a pound of lean, juicy organic beef (locally raised) on a ciabatta roll and topped with arugula, dill, and some kind of wonderful cucumbery relish--in addition to the excellent (again, local) chevre. Impressive. The rest of the menu was tempting as well. There's a pan-fried poke sandwich that looks good, a taro burger, and several other options--not to mention, a nice little selection of sides and desserts. The ambiance is great, too. The enclosed, screened patio has ample seating, nice art, plants, and even a few comfy couches. It's a burger place but would work equally well as a coffee shop or funky breakfast cafe. The servers are nice, don't bug you a lot, and didn't mind that I sat there for a couple hours enjoying their 100% Kona coffee (which they generously refilled and topped off several times--not every place around here does this--Kona coffee isn't cheap). Annie's curb appeal is terrible, and I'm hoping they'll improve their branding (right now it's a yellow and brown logo that looks like a chain--which it isn't). When I asked, the guy said they'd only been open a month. I sure hope they stick around.

This place is awesome an every aspect ! Great service ! Friendly staff. Grass-fed beef, organic veggies, fresh caught fish. Lots of food choices. All at a reasonable price, particularly if you consider the location. I was particularly impressed how accurately they could cook the meat and fish to the requested level of "done-ness". Most other places you can order a medium rare or medium but still receive overcooked meat. Not here, you order what you want, they tell you how they define "medium" to make sure you are on the same page and you get exactly what they promised. Also, the interior design is pretty cool and very comfy. Everything we had was outstanding. I wish I could go there more often.

We love on the big island and cannot understand the hype about Annie's. I guess tourists see the big sign outside and are sucked in. We tried Annie's last month with a "to-go" order for visiting family. Everyone was very disappointed. However, we thought we would give it another try and have dinner in the restaurant. OMG they should just give you a bowl of grease to slurp. The grease was dripping off my hands. My husband loves fries but couldn't even finish his because of the grease. I ordered the onion rings and again the greasiness was overwhelming. There is a McDonalds right down the road. If you want a burger that you can taste without being inundated with dripping grease.......go to McDonalds!!!!!

I LOVE Annie's Island Fresh burgers. I think we went here 3 times during the week we were in the Kona area on vacation. Yes, it was really close to our bed and breakfast, but we kept returning because the food is just good. We didn't know that a lot of places close early (8 pm or so) on the Big Island, but they were nice enough to squeeze us in on our first trip to the restaurant, and we fell in love. Our favorite was the South Point burger, although they have good fish sandwiches as well. The pudding was great, the staff is awesome. I recently went to my favorite burger place back in Boston but it didn't taste nearly as good as Annie's. Now I am ruined for all burgers because of them. The beef is just so fresh because of the amazing cattle ranches of Hawaii. Everything at Annie's tastes fresh and at the peak of flavor and excellence. Annie's is great. I even got a t-shirt to remind me of this supreme highlight of our trip to Hawaii.

Okay, here I am again, prepping for yet another visit to Hawai'i and again, I'm thinking of Annie's (and how I should've updated my review after we were here last summer). Annie's just keeps getting better - with a larger dining room now (losing none of their great ambiance). And guess what? No stink eye from the staff this time! They were friendly and professional from start to finish. See you soon Annie's! I'm so hungry!

By far the best burger I have ever eaten and this includes the Kobe beef burger I had. The beef patty is made from local beef from the Parker Ranch. It was light, fluffy, seasoned and cooked just right - for me it is medium. The buns are made in the bakery in the same shopping center as Annie's. The other ingredients are local sourced as well. We thought about trying to get back out to eat again before out trip end but we ran out of time. If you want a great burger then stop off at Annie's!!

This without a doubt was the best burger I have ever had, and this includes all the celebrity chef burger establishments that I have frequented in Las Vegas. I have no idea how this little tiny island shop cooks their burgers, but I've never been cooked a more juicy burger, with the perfect amount of tasty char at the correct temperature (medium is pink, just the way I like it). I wish to God that everyone in the universe that makes burgers would learn to cook them like this. As others have said, everything is of high quality, and are locally sourced on the Island, including the meat. They have a mural on the wall of the Big Island, showing where all their food comes from. If you are on the Big Island, this is a must stop. Seriously, I dream about this damn burger constantly, and it has made me hate every burger I have eaten since because none of them come close to being as delicious.

Driving home from Kailua-Kona to Puna, via South Point, we found this gem hiding in plain sight in the Mango Court in Kainaliu. We first were thinking we'd stop at long-time fav Island Naturals for some lunch, but on a whim decided to check out Annie's. And we're glad we did. Hamburgers aren't usually on our radar, but we'll visit Annie's again and again. Our server, the unique Veronique, recommended the day's special burger - goat cheese, grilled pineapple and bbq sauce on a large fresh burger. The meat was cooked exactly as we ordered, medium, and full of juicy, smoky, charred flavor. Nathan Myrvold should have had Annie on his Food Science research team...THIS is how it's done, people!!! The goat cheese was warm and melty, and blended with the pineapple in a way that we couldn't have imagined. We paired our sandwich with two sides...tempura-battered onion rings, and the purple potato salad...both were perfectly pleasing. I washed my meal down with Annie's Hard Lemonade, which IMHO could have stood another finger of vodka, and my date enjoyed her Inversion IPA. We were too full for dessert, but I confessed my weakness for dark chocolate to Veronique. And, bless her sweet heart, she brought us a sample of their dark chocolate pudding!! This review would not be complete without a mention of the beautiful, tropical ambiance. Beautiful wood table tops, funky bamboo-themed chairs, light and happy. We were seated on a covered lanai, caressed by balmy breezes, and tended to with the spirit of aloha by an attentive team of servers. Color us sated and satisfied...we'll be back!!

I recently re-located to Kona for a for months and was so sad to leave my favorite Oahu spots for food. So sad that it will be months until the next time I can wrap my pearly whites around a Teddy's Burger. That being said, Annie's was a very solid burger joint in the heart of Kainaliu! I ordered the "south point burger," which came with white onion (wished it was red onion), pickles, tomato, avocado, cheddar, and a nice and mild BBQ sauce, topped with a couple onion rings. For around $9 for the burger alone, this thing was definitely pricey, but what can you do. It wasn't amazing, but it was definitely better than your average burger. The ambiance is shockingly nice for a burger joint, and they have $1.95 PBR's on tap from, i think, 3-6 everyday. What doesn't go better with an overpriced burger than an under-appreciated beer... or three. Although Teddy's is still my all-time favorite burger in the islands, Annie's was a solid find that will hold me over until July when I move back. Give it a shot.

Very expensive, my husband got some fried fish and it was like $17.00. Before we went we must have read an old menu that advertised a vegan taro burger with chipotle sauce that sounded quite good, but they didn't have that one when we went and the one they had sounded bland and I didn't feel like taking the $15 risk. I got a tiny bowl of salty minestrone soup for $7. Nice ambiance, but would not return.

Being out of Portland for the next year I was a bit concerned about being able to find a good burger, and was desperately missing Brunchbox and Little Big Burger. I came to Annies hoping that they would be able to cure some of my homesickness with a good burger and I wasn't disappointed. They serve great burgers all made with local beef and their own unique island twist. My favorite burger is not currently listed on the menu on their website but I believe it was called the Greek burger. The name isn't that important, the taste is. Kalamata olives and a tzatziki feta cheese sauce piled high on a juicy, medium rare burger and a ciabatta roll. I am in burger heaven. Why have I never thought of a burger accompanied by my favorite salad toppings before? I also had a very generous sized order of some tempura battered onion rings to go along with this that were delicious and most importantly not just a greasy mass of batter like so many onion rings are. The staff was all very friendly and the food is prepared super fast so this is a good place to eat if you have places to see and things to do, or if you just want to sit back, relax, eat a delicious burger and enjoy the view.

And I thought I didn't like burgers. Until I met Annie's Burger. That was instant love. Overwhelming emotions cause choppy sentences. That was the best freakin' burger in my life. The meat was so fresh almost mooooed in my face (very tenderly). I'm considering flying to Hawaii just for that big, fat, juicy, divine burger. Like... now. Gotta go.

Best food in Big Island!!! Had special for the day with pineapples. The kayak/snorkeling tour guide recommended it saying they use island grass fed beef. Definite must in Kona!!! One of the best burger joints I've been to.

I have been determined to find a good burger on this island. This place has great ambience. Beer was great. Service was great. I thought the burger itself was awesome!! It was freshly made and cooked perfect. I had a choice of fries, cole slaw or purple sweet potato salad. I chose purple sweet potato salad. It wasn't what I thought. It was basically potato salad with extra mayo. I was looking for a healthy sweet potato. It's actually red potato with a few piece of purple. We also ordered spices chicken wings. My husband was really excited about these. They were a big disappointment. It was an expensive dinner for a family to eat burgers. IBurgers were great!

We started with an order of roasted garlic & basil fries and almost didn't place an order because we were too enraptured with the deliciousness that we didn't see our server. Great poke cake burger and bacon Swiss burger followed. Amazing food! Great friendly service and fantastic open lanai setting. You really should try this place.

Personally I don't understand all the hype surrounding this place. I really wanted to love this place, but it was just so-so for me. The interior is great though, the back wall is completely open to the outside so it feels like you are sitting out on a deck. I love the decor and the feel of this place, it's very clean and our server was friendly. We started out with the tempura battered onion rings which tasted just like regular onion rings to me, but tasty nonetheless. I did however appreciate the light and crispiness of the batter and they tasted fresh-out-of-the-fryer. I would have preferred a nice dipping sauce, maybe a spicy aoli or something but we were stuck with plain ol' ketchup. I was looking forward to the burgers mostly and when they arrived they were as beautiful as the pictures showed. I tasted a mushroom off my fiances steakhouse burger and thought it was a little chewy and cold, kind of like it had been sitting out for a while. The first thing I noticed about my classic cheeseburger was that the lettuce, tomato, and onion all looked a little sad and wilted. The burger itself was a little dry and the flavor was nothing memorable. For me a good burger is hot, juicy and flavorful and the burger here was none of those things. Maybe I had hyped it up too much in my head, after all I was looking forward to it all weekend and was disappointed when I just got an average cheeseburger. My advice is don't come here expecting anything extraordinary, do that and you will be pleased with the food here.

We went to Annie's the next to last day of our trip. And we made sure we were able to come back the last day... The burgers are outstanding...but the ono was even better (eaten as the fresh catch wasabi sandwich). All the fried bits are AMAZING - fries, onion rings, and particularly the goat cheese balls. The beer was tasty but the selection is limited (and focused on the lighter side of life). Best of all was just how FRESH everything tasted. The cucumbers, the tomatoes, the meat, the fish, the bread - put together all these flavor packed ingredients just made for perfect sandwiches. My only complaint was that the homemade chocolate pudding was way too sugary.

Really nice people working here. I really like when a server knows her menu. She suggested the burger with mushrooms and blue cheese and it was great. We also had the special basil garlic fries with basil aioli they are awesome hand cut crispy goodness! We will be back for sure at least one more time on this Kona visit. Ps great views and super clean.

Huge and delicious onion rings. Perfectly cooked fresh beef burger-- we got the one with mushrooms, Gorgonzola, and arugula. Great beers on tap. Oh yeah, plus their barbecue sauce is amazing. If anybody knows what they put in that sauce, I wanna know!! SO GOOD. I would recommend going out of your way to get an Annie's burger. We just happened to be driving through, but I've been craving another one of their burgers ever since. And I don't even like burgers. Yummy!

Great tasting food - range of beef to vegetarian burgers. Great fresh catch burger. Good casual microbrew type feel to the place. Would definitely go back if any where near the area.

The friendliest and most attractive service I've ever had at a burger joint. But I can't really call it a burger joint when they serve Italian wedding soup that most definitely did *not* come from a can. This is real cooking. I asked for a rare burger and my bar-b-que pineapple burger came out rare a the day it was born. It tasted like that cow died happy. One warning; the onion rings are a serious tempura adventure. One order for every two people should do. Soggy tempura does not do well as leftovers.

Annie's is so Ono!! The best onion rings I've ever had, beer battered, fresh pepper in the batter and the perfect amount of coarse salt! We came back twice the food was so good and the staff was so friendly! We had the The BBQ "South Point" Burger and The Ultimate Classic Burger. Local brews on tap finished the perfect burger/rings meal both times. I can't complete this review without mentioning the great big floor to ceiling windows that open up to a great view of course!
