We ate at Pau 2 times in past week, noticed the subtle changes of new ownership right away --menu is simple, food is fresh and very delicious always. I've never had a bad meal there ever, Its a small cozy place unpretentious and easy. Wishing the new owners the best of luck and a very prosperous future! Highly recommend this fresh local eatery.

Great service and excellent Classico pizza. Saw a small black cockroach on the floor and simply ignored it until it got squished dead. Then his family of at least two more made two unexpected visits on the table to let us know they missed him. This is the only restaurant in the big island that had cockroaches that are not shy to die when meeting tourists.

We met some friends here for a nice dinner out. The table they had ready for us was perfect. We all tried different plates and everyone enjoyed our dinner. I had some pasta and loved it. The service was great and food was so nice. I would like to stop by again. Mahalo

This restaurant didn't meet my expectations of restaurant rated as 4 stars at yelp. The chicken primavera had too much broccoli and chicken was with brown spots. The sauce was mediocre. My husband asked for seared ahi, but they cooked it as well done. No sugar was suggested for tea. The selection of tea also was poor. Definitely will not go here again.

The salads are on the dinner side, but they are so good , you wont even have trouble getting through it. Definitely coming back

Went in a few days ago for lunch and it was amazing! My server Kuwela was fantastic and attentive. The food was perfect I had the bruschetta and a turkey burger. Yum! However I just went back in for lunch today and it was a different story! Left hungry and disappointed. Had the bruschetta again and it was lacking in flavor and seasoning. Had a supper food salad with chicken, the chicken tasted a week old!! All dried out and disgusting I took one bite and spit it out. Sadly my server was busy and didn't have time to check on us or ask how the food was so I didn't bring it up. You can taste a difference with different cooks.

Always a good time here. Great food. Friendly service. Casual atmosphere with local art hanging on the wall. Sandwiches, salads, pasta & pizzas are all equally deeelish! Cold beers, good wines & a nice selection of soft drinks for the kiddos!

Great lunch spot! Had a cold beer, slice of the day and salad. Loved everything, prompt friendly service, fresh hot tomato bisque, a little pricey but always willing to pay for extra for the best. As I'm writing this review I found a catapiller in my salad, a true sign of freshness but still a tad scary.

This place had a great fish sandwich, a tad expensive but worth it. I wasnt the biggest fan of the salads but my wife loved them especially with their portobello mushrooms. The pizza there was tasty but had very same servings for the price. I give this place. I did gone once to order a salad to go and the place was packed. So the cashier let me wait in my car and brought my food to me ! that was good service !

Fast, fresh and the quaintest restaurant in Waimea!! Soba noodles with fresh fish, A slice of the speciality pizza of the day or pasta bakes are some of my faves!!

Just stopped in for lunch, the place was extremely busy but service was quick. We got a pizza and the artichoke-pesto hummus. The pizza was good, the sauce was excellent. the hummus was awesome, I could have eaten that as a meal all by itself. The rest of the menu looked excellent, if we were not staying two hours away we would definitely return for dinner. I guess we will have to wait for our next visit to the island.

Amazing food at great prices. Chef Mike is a master! Try the Grinder sandwich or any salad. They use tons of local ingredients. Awesome deal.

I am such a big fan of their fish sandwich. It is oh so delicious I couldn't get enough. But I would be doing a dis-service to fellow Yelpers and the restaurant if I didn't put this down. It started w a worm in my salad, they said it's because they are organic and wash by soaking salad in salt. I was ok with that explanation, but questioned the sanitary standard of their kitchen as well as their business ethics when I was not offered an apologetic gesture of sort... (Even though I would of declined any offers.) Even then, I am a fiend for that sandwich, I did go back for it two more times, and both times, I had food poisoning in the Longs bathroom across the street. Not fun. My relationship with PAU is that of a girlfriend who gets cheated on but keep going back... So three times a charm, I quit. Pau, you should really clean up your act.

Excellent meal. We had a pizza - half veggie and half "whole hog" and it was absolutely delicious. The other menu items looked yummy - sad we couldn't try more of them...

They are great. Always super friendly and quick. The pizza/superfood salad combo for 10$ is the bomb. Favorite place to eat in Waimea. And they serve alcohol!!

This is an excellent place to sample gourmet pizza in Waimea. They have a great deal: any one of their salads and a quarter (3 slices) of their Pizza of the Day for $9. We ended up splitting the Hamakua, which featured roasted garlic, caramelized onions, bacon and Hamakua mushrooms for $25. It was cooked perfectly and had thin, crispy crust. It would have been idea for 4 people - we could only get through 3 slices each before we were totally full. The beer selection is small, but decent. They had Kona beers, Hapa Brown, Anchor Steam, and Great White, all for $3.75 each. It's all bottled, but they serve you in a glass. The missing star is for the price, which was a pretty high for individual pizzas.

I really wanted to like this place like I used to. But for a while now, I've been avoiding this place because of their lackluster service - their servers seemed like they went through revolving doors. We had been coming here for years when we first started visiting the island. But after moving here a couple of years ago, we stopped. Quality had suffered, service was spotty and you no longer felt you got the value you once got. But I decided to get a couple of large salads and a small Caesar for take out. The former is $9 and the latter is $6. Chicken or fish is extra. Except that $6 salad is a few leaves and maybe 5 or 6 croutons. SIX DOLLARS for a few bites of greens, Caesar dressing and a sprinkling of grated cheese. I looked underneath and didn't find a gold nugget so I can't seem to find why it cost so much. It's a $3 at best. I think I made the right decision not to come back. I'm sure this place will still be around for a while, sustained by tourists drunk on fresh island air. There are better places like Fish and the Hog, Red Water Cafe for good, local food that has a great quality/price ratio. If all else fails, I'd rather eat at the resorts. At least I'll know why they're so expensive for the little amount they give you.

Cozy spot with DELICIOUS pizza! With nothing better to do than to read yelp reviews while headed down Saddle Road from Mauna Kea, we chose Pau on a whim and not knowing what to expect, we were happily surprised to find fast & friendly service, great food and well-priced meals & drinks. The volcano cheesy bread was a great starter and we opted for the pizza of the day with salad - 1/4 of the pie, sliced in 3 big pieces and any of their gourmet salads for $9 (!!) Such a deal! yelp.com/biz_photos/pau-… I love that they offer both vegetarian and meat pizzas as their special pizzas of the day - Mike and I ordered one of each. His came with fresh tomato, pepperoni and blue cheese and mine was the sundried tomato, portobello and garlic. Wish we had more time to spend in the area so we could stop by again to try other dishes (the pesto pasta with fish sounded so good!) as well as an impressive selection of desserts... ah, until next vacation!

As of April 1st Pau has new owners. It's one of my favorite Waimea restaurants so I was hoping it wouldn't change too much. They are keeping the original menu but adding some specials. Today at lunch I had the special salad and some Ono on the side. It was the best meal I've ever had at Pau. Fish was cooked perfectly and the presentation was gorgeous. Can't wait to go back.

A really fresh and mostly local ingredient restaurant on the Big Island. This place isn't pretentious but is all about fresh food. We had a pizza, pasta and the fresh catch of the day. Everyone had a good meal. The pizza wasn't too doughy or too much sauce (my bête noirs). The pasta only had fresh ingredients and nothing out of a can. The catch of the day was a highlight since it literally was aught that day and was delicious over quinoa. Nothing here to make you jump out of your beach gear and dress for dinner but you won't be disappointed with the quality of the food. Usually in Hawaii because of its location you have lots of things flown in or canned. I really appreciated everything being from scratch and as local as possible. Go have a Long Board for me and unwind.

We had tried to hit up the Big Island Brewhaus, but they were closed for building maintenance, so we found our way to Pau. We got the daily pizza and salad meal and were pleasantly surprised at the amount of pizza we all got. Plus I got to pick a delicious vegetarian option for my pizza, and the salad was more than just a house salad. The other reviews make it sound pretty hit and miss here, but we had a great experience.

The food was really good. We started our meal with the artichoke hummus. It comes with tomato wedges, toasted flat bread, feta, and bell peppers. The hummus was creamy and thick with artichoke blended in it. Delicious taste and great hummus texture. Our entree was the pizza, of which the name evades me right now, on it were mushrooms, spinach, caramelized onions, bacon, mozzarella, and the crispiest crust. I love crispy thin crust so this was an awesome treat. I would recommend checking it out when you're in the Waimea area. Come hungry because the pizza is massive. I can't wait to try more menu options!

The restaurant itself was cute. The service was good and food came out quickly. However, Pizza tastes and looked like cardboard. The Mac and cheese had no flavor. Salad was drenched with dressing.

My mom and I ate here on a Friday night. It's a small restaurant with maybe a dozen tables but we only had to wait a few minutes before getting seated. I don't know if they only had one server working or what but the service was terrible. Our server seemed bored and moved at a snail's pace. We both ordered the triple slice meal and it took forever. How long can three slices of cheese pizza and three slices of pepperoni pizza take? The table next to us sat down a while after we did, ordered a full pizza, and it arrived shortly after ours. The pizza tastes amazing but be sure not to go if you're in a hurry. If you're starving be sure to order the cheesy bread because it'll be ready WAY quicker than your pizza.

Fantastic family restaurant. The hawaiian pizza was awesome. I would love to come back here next time I'm on the Big Island. They are not just pizza, lots of other options of things to eat.

Fortunately I have never experienced the same thing as Mister. M, so... I've always enjoyed my meal at Pau. Last night we both had the hot pumpkin soup, the 3 slice special, and we shared a grapefruit Izzy. The soup was delicious with a nice creamy texture. The 3 slice special was a steal in my opinion. For $9 you get three nice, thin crust slices with artichoke, tomato, and arugula, or Italian sausage, olives, and roasted garlic... With your choice of a side salad from the menu (we both had the vintner's). The entire meal was just over $30 and I went home full! Try topping that! On previous visits I've also enjoyed the mushroom risotto, chicken primavera, and some if their pizzas, and I've never been disappointed. It's a small restaurant with a handful of tables, and a small staff of 3-4 people. I've been there on nights when it was a full house, and it can get a bit cramped, but not so much so that it got uncomfortable. The staff is friendly and attentive as can be, based on the capacity, and the cool Waimea breeze flowing through the windows keeps the room comfortable. Overall, I'd say Pau is an upscale pizza joint. It has good decent food at reasonable prices, and it's our go-to dining spot when we want a simple, yet good meal. It's not THE best, but it's solid! I'll put it this way... Compared to its neighboring restaurant (who's name I won't mention, but it rhymes with Jerrymans) is a MUCH better eatery. They're not overpriced, over pretentious, have good solid food, and have FRIENDLY STAFF, unlike that other place...

Pau uses a lot of local produce which I really appreciate! The caesar salad is fresh & yummy & the desserts are out of this world! I usually do NOT get dessert because they are so decadent that it's easy to devour the whole thing on my own!) They even have gluten free options at times! The food is fast, tasty, & they have wi-fi (BIG perk since my office is near by & I usually want to eat & work at the same time) :)

By pure luck we stumbled upon Pau! the food here was so fresh, delicious and unique! The pizza crust was absolutely paper thin and crisp, the fish; fresh caught. And the service was beyond anything I expected!

Want to eat with the locals to experience Waimea's hidden secret? Eat here! Bring a sweatshirt as Waimea is usually always 10-20 degrees cooler than the Kohala Coast. They make their dough, sauces and most everything else fresh every morning! So grab a perfect pizza and a bottle of Pinot Noir and enjoy!!!! Try one of their specials they offer when you order the triple slice that comes with a choice of 3 different salads. This place is rad!!!!!

YUMMY!!! My hubby and I both ordered the Slice of Italy special...3 slices of pizza or 1/4 of their normal pizza and a side salad. We also ordered their cheesy bread as an appetizer. All of it was really good. The cheesy bread was fresh and cheesy, put a little bit of the chili flakes on it and it was perfect. The pizza came with a salad with apples, bleu cheese chunks and pecans...I would have preferred a caesar and I should have asked. I am not a fan of sweet salads. The pizza had great flavor, the crust was thin and delicious. Plenty of toppings, a little chili flake and yum! The water tasted like tap water and the tables took a while to be cleaned off. They were busy so I could kind of understand. They yelp map is a little off...it isn't that far up the street, it is in the first driveway, back of the little shopping area.

My wife and I ate a pepperoni pizza and the crust tasted like the crust on a "cheap" frozen pizza from the grocery store to both of us. I brought home the last two slices for my son who told me the flavor of the crust was not so good. 3 thumbs down! We are pau with Pau.

When we first started visiting The Big Island, this was a fave stop. When we finally moved almost 2 years ago, this place was a dinner staple. But then, about a year ago, they started charging $7 for fish to add on your salad. Then, the salad got smaller and smaller. So we stopped going. Until today. We figured maybe they've finally gone back to their roots of good food for good value. So wrong. Ordered 2 large super food salads at $9 each without chicken or fish (with it's like $5/$7 additional respectively) and a small Caesar for $6. Now, when I think small salad, I think salad for one. Not a side salad. This had 2 oz of leaves, 6 croutons and a shaving of Parmesan. The dressing is way too much for the amount of salad I actually got. Was I paying for dressing? I'm done. I'll be bringing my business to Red Water Cafe and Fish and Hog. Same pricing, but better quality, service and servings.

  • Ethan F.

I like going here when I need "something else". The Super food salad is awesome. The pizza is always different. There is a good mix of flavors and the daily pizzas usually have one with just veggies or one with meat. I really like the Grinder sandwich. In a place that' s hard to find good sandwiches nearby, I am glad this place is open consistently. Anything your'e in the mood for can be found here when you want to get away from the "same ole"bland flavors.

Decent late-lunch spot. We actually went here because our first two choices were closed by the time we were getting lunch at 2:30pm. My hubby got the Slice of Italy and I got their local mushroom pasta. I really enjoyed my pasta despite it being spicier than I had expected/wanted. A note on the menu of its spiciness would be nice. I did like the abundance of fresh, local mushrooms and mini-tomatoes. The pizza slices that he got were (by comparing it to the other photos posted) over baked and the crust was pretty dark brown. Staff was friendly. We might go back if we're getting lunch at that late, but I'd rather try some other places if we're back in the area at a more "lunch" hour.

Outstanding Pizza place and I don't even like pizza! Great healthy salad choices and thin crust pizza that is not greasy or heavy to eat. Some reviewer complained about the thin crust? If you like the junk at Pizza Hut then take your fat ass over there for some lard infused garbage. If you want great pizza then go to Pau.

    (5)
  • Chad M.

I go to this place pretty often. I think the food is pretty good. The salads are all winners and you can add fresh fish for a couple bucks more. The nice thing is that you get a lot more fish than most places in Waimea. The pizza is awesome. Try the Hamakua Pizza. It's my favorite!! Plus all the ingredients are fresh!!

It was around 11:00am and we were starving for lunch. Daniel Thiebaut wasn't open yet and Hawaiian Style Cafe looked way too packed. So, we ended up here at Pau. I was a little skeptical of this place at first, since we were the only one's there. The food proved to be pretty good though. I ordered the a steak sandwich with goat cheese and a side of mixed greens. The sandwich was very good, but I couldn't really taste too much goat cheese, which I absolutely love and was looking forward to tasting in my sandwich. My family also split the crimini pizza. I was in love with the crust, which was perfectly crispy just the way I like it. I kept getting caught sneaking the crust off all the slices. The only issue I had with the pizza was getting slices with too much pancetta, which was super salty. My friend ordered a side of pea soup, which wasn't warm enough at first, but after she got it heated up a bit she said it was very good. Prices are average, service is friendly, and the interior is clean and relaxed. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meal here. It certainly wasn't Daniel Thiebaut, but it was good enough to satisfy our early afternoon hunger.

Stopped in for an early dinner after spending a lonnngg day of driving around seeing the sights. We each ordered the 3 slice and side salad special. A good choice for just 2 as the 18" pie is the only choice. Also not a bad idea for the couple who can't agree on pizza. The pizza is very thin crust without an overwhelming, but adequate amount of cheese. The 2 choices for the special pizza were both interesting mine was topped with chicken, goat cheese and artichoke. The salad was great, with apples candied pecans and a vinegarette dressing. Usually I prefer thick crust pizza, with the exception of really good NY/ brooklynn thin crust. That's why I preferred Kona Brewing Co. Pizza to Pau. But all in all Pau is a nice stop if you're in the area

  • Aron N.

Very good pizza! One of the thinnest crusts you may experience. No lack of topping - very generous! The salads and the dressings are delicious! The cheese bread is what big kahuna should strive for. A hidden gem in Waimea! Great service too!

  • Rachel A.

We ate here twice in ten days, once by chance (first place we saw in Waimea/Kamuela) and once by design (because it was so good!) Pau uses fresh local ingedients to flavor their food, and you can taste it (as well as see what's new in their deli case). Full-pizza prices were a little high, but the $8 for three slices and a side salad was a total deal. Their salads are totally dreamy, especially the greens with quinoa, brown rice, feta and grapes. Kona Brewery beers are $3.75, which I think was actually cheaper than at the Kona Brewery. Pau is easy on the wallet and delicious to boot, but if you want to spend twice the price on a greasy cheeseburger in Kailua, go ahead!

Pau has the best chocolate mousse I've ever tasted; it is light and heavenly! Their pizza and salads are tasty as well.

Another of my favorite places in Waimea. I like it so much that I bought their tee-shirt. ;). Salads are outstanding as is their fresh fish, pizza, and pasta. The only disappointment I've had is a dessert but they buy them from someone. It's a must stop.

2.5 Stars. I have always wanted to give this place a try because I have heard great things from the locals I have talked to each time I visit the Big Island. The place is pretty small and has a homey type feel which I liked. Our waitress was friendly and it was obvious that she was doing her best. The food took forever which seems to be the norm in Hawaii so even though it was annoying it was to be expected. When our salad arrived after about 45 minutes there was a giant hair on it. The waitress was sincerely sorry and took it away. A minute or so later before the new salad was delivered our pizza arrived. Upon looking at it we noticed a giant hair on it too which was baked into the cheese. Eventually we got all our food and did enjoy the pizzas without hair on them. Only the pizza was taken off the bill which was surprising since we had a hair in the salad too. But after being there with children for so long I didnt have the energy to say anything.

Usually my experience here is good today we were treated pretty badly. We asked to add olives to our pizza slice and were told that the kitchen is too busy for substitutions. Really? Can't find the time to add olives ? Currently I see 4 tables for a total of 12 people ....

Huge salad, very fresh, with quinoa and portobello mushroom for a starter. Vegan thin crust pizza with all the veggies on top was to die for. Spent three nights in Kamuela/Waimea area and Pau was so good we ate there on two of the nights. Never did make it to Merrimans (THE Restaurant to go to) which is literally next door.

Excellent!! I had the pasta primavera carbonara, $14 plus $2 for a focaccia. Very tasty with a great combination of flavors. If you are on the Kona coast, this place is worth the drive for lunch or dinner. You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. Open kitchen restaurant, clean and well run.

Stopped in for lunch on the way to the north coast of the island. This place was absolutely slammed during the lunch rush. No free tables, and a line nearly out the door. We ordered the 'whole hog' pizza, and waited about 20 minutes for it to be ready. We ended up sitting near the door, with an open view into the kitchen. This was a mixed blessing, as I both got to see all the really awesome food that everyone else had ordered, but also watched the woman behind the cash register committing repeated health violations. She went from handling money to touching food, to bussing tables multiple times without ever washing her hands (this is the only reason why they didn't get 5 stars). I understand they were super busy, and were rushing around, but making your customers ill with cross contamination violations is not an acceptable practice, no matter how short staffed you may be. Anyway, the pizza itself was quite good, even if it was thin crust which isn't really my preference.

My wife and I stumbled upon this place while exploring the Big Island. We each got the three-slice special with salad. The Superfood salad was amazingly nourishing after our day trip and the tomato and artichoke pizza was soooo fresh! The thin crust had the perfect crispness. Oh and it was very reasonably priced - perhaps because it's further away from the tourist resorts. A real gem here in Waimea, Pau is!

Out of sight! Dropped in for lunch after a morning on horseback. We had the best 'Hawaiian' pizza I've had (the ham and pineapple kind...), a butternut soup, some lovely 'Volcano Cheesy Bread' and a superfood salad between three of us. It was a lot of food, but we plowed through it. Please go there, you will LOVE IT!!

The first time we came there was such a long wait we decided to skip it. It's good we came back because it was well worth it. Friendly service. Delicious, fresh salads with a very nice dressing. My dining companion ordered the soup/salad combo and raved about the tomato bisque and fresh bread. We ordered a pizza that had a nice, thin crust with the toppings we wanted. It was too big for 2 people and only comes in the one size which would be great to share with 4 or 3 hungry people. You can order by the slice but your selections are limited to the specialties of the day. We were too stuffed for dessert but would like to try them someday. I definitely want to go back. Later: I did go back and was SO disappointed when they told me they were out of pizza and it would be an hour before they had any. This is the second time this has happened so I would caution you not to make the long drive up there unless you've called ahead to ensure they are not out. They also were out of soup. It was around 1:00, so it seemed like they had poor planning. Something like this shouldn't happen. We decided to go to another restaurant. This experience left an unpleasant memory of Pau, a place that I had loved before.

Delicious! The service here is a bit slow, but the pizza is fantastic. Servings are huge and prices are reasonable for what you get. A great stop after a day at the volcano.

Great local ingredients (which means they run out of this or that some nights) and a nice variety of fresh salads and pizza make Pau a sure winner. The pizzas are good not great, and I actually really prefer the nice mushroom pasta dish they do with fresh gorgonzola and cherry tomatoes. Prices are fair and they are probably able to keep them fair by not grabbing a ton of extra ingredients and wasting food, which is rare for a restaurant, but nonetheless appreciated.

We were o the way back from Waiipio Valley, walking up and down it! and were starved We found this place by accident. It was GREAT! The staff were amazingly friendly and the food was excellent. My wife had the caesar salad with the mahi-mahi and she loved it. I had the 3 slices of pesto artichoke pizza with caesare salad and I loved it. Only $22!!!!! Beat that for great food and great service in Hawaii!

I've eaten here twice, once dine in, the other take away. I'm torn between 3 or 4 stars, but by Hawaii pizza standards, it gets four. The service is pleasant and casual, which is appropriate for a pizza place. I've only had the pizza, not any other menu items, so I can only judge that. Crust is thin, tasty, and the sauce has a nice flavor. The margarita pizza has a little too much cheese for my taste to be authentic, but it is a great tasting blend of cheeses. Will return for sure to try other items.

We ate here twice during a 3 week house sitting gig in June. Pau is a small restaurant tucked in the back of an office area in the center of Kamuela. You have to be looking for it to find it. It is a nice 8-10 table operation, with a deli case in front where you can see their ingredients. I ordered their mushroom pizza based on seeing the flat for gorgeous mushroms that had just been delivered. Our party had pizza, salads and a few noodle dishes. The sauces and dressings on the salads and noodles were outstanding. The owner is planning on commercializing those dressings and I for one are looking forward to being able to get them for home. Other ingredients were also fresh and well prepared. I really really recommend the mushroom pizza, it is rare you will see that kind of variety of mushrooms! We ordered at the counter and took a table in the back. This was early in the evening, as our dinner progressed it looked like they had regular table ordering and service. Pau serves beer and wine. Limited choice but the wines were quite good, we had a Neprica from Pulia, very nice. Prices were quite reasonable, you didn't feel like you were getting charged for eating in HI vs. the mainland. I would say it is 5 star withing the middle price category. I wished we were staying in Kamuela so we could have eaten at Pau a few more times.

This place is one of the few places that is actually worth your money and time on this island! Really really good food, for really really good prices! Cute little cafe too, nice atmosphere. Service is sometimes slow and lazy, but, they make it up for it with good food and good prices. You get 2 - 3 large slices of really good, fresh pizza, along with a side salad (decent portion) for only like $9! can't beat that really! or get a whole pizza for around $25, or less. Excellent fresh ingredients. Very much worth the drive to waimea! casual dining. they also serve wine as well!

Great food. Great music. Great service. The menu just says "side salad" when it should say "real lettuce, candied walnuts, apple, and incredible sauce." pizza crust could be a tad crustier.

Excellent bacon, artichoke, cheese pizza. Thin crust is almost New Jersey! The accompanying salad was delicious! What a find!

This was our first meal on the Big Island and we loved it! In fact, we talked about trying to eat there a second time before the end of our vacation but never made it back. I had the pizza special of the day with a side salad and hubby had a butterfish sandwich with a side salad. Hubby also drank a lilikoi iced tea that he really liked. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

When you've a bit red and need an afternoon out of the sun, we drive up to Pau's for a delicious lunch. The fish sandwich is one of the best on the island. Take home the hummus and artichoke dip if you need a snack for later. The pizza is thin and always a bit burnt, but the salads use fresh Hilo lettuce that is crisp and refreshing. Great addition to Kamuela.

Pau in Waimea is so good! It is kid friendly, the owners and servers are delightful and the food is fabulous. I recommend the island greens caesar and the hawaiian pizza.

We had 1/2 Hakemau (sp?) and 1/2 Supremo....it was Fabulous!! We also had a Caesar salad, very delicious, great croutons. Service was very friendly. We would eat here again, and we highly recommend it!

Wear your sunglasses! The dining room is ablaze with fluorescent lights sticking out of track light fixtures that make the food look terrible and give diners a headache. Wine, a Sangiovese, was truly awful. Salad dressing so sour it made us pucker up. Pizza crust is like "saloon pilot crackers" and topping was barely edible: bacon overcooked and crunchy, caramelized onions undercooked, mushroom stems chewy. Service was fabulous but we won't be back. Maybe for lunch, but for $90.00 dinner should be better than it was.

Four stars for their pizza, which is better than Cafe Pesto's (sorry Cafe Pesto). But 2.5 or 3 stars for the other stuff. I've never been there when they haven't run out of something--soup, salad, PIZZA even. If you're patient this isn't a big deal, but I am impatient and their service is a bit slow. No worries if you're not me though!

We loved their pizza. We ordered the "club med" -- I think that is what it was called -- and it was yummy. And it was huge. The three of us couldn't finish it. If I were to do this again -- and we will certainly go there the next time we're on the Big Island -- we'll order a half-and-half. The variety of having a tomato sauce on one side and a pesto-ish sause on the other side would be even better! I give 5 stars to the service; they were extremely friendly, prompt in taking our order, and our food arrived on time.

Pau is a little hard to find - it's located behind Merrimans on the Kawaihae Road ( the old Aioli's), but its a great little find! While it may be known as a pizza place, Pau has great salads. Along with the usual caesar they have some house specials - the super food and the vintner. The superfood is a blend of quinoa & brown rice with grapes & spiced nuts over mixed greens and feta. The Vintner is greens, spiced pecans, apples & gorgonzola. Both are always fresh and gooood! Pau offers you a combo of pizza and salad as a daily special for just $9 and this is plenty to eat as a 1/4 of their pizza is a large serving. And speaking of their pizzas - they are awesome! All fresh and with some great combos. A friend calls them "adult pizzas!" They're great to order out for take out along with a salad or two for an easy night of no cooking and left overs for the next day. And, finally I've always been served with a friendly smile. Who could ask for more?

Thin crust deliciousness. We had the four cheese pizza and it was thick with cheese. Their homemade sauce just settles on your tongue

This is a tiny (12 table) place tucked in a little office complex in the same parking lot as Merriman's. The food was decent, really crisp thin crust pizza, but it was pricey. $38 for a pizza and two beers. The staff was really nice and the food was out pretty quick. Even though it wasn't busy the dining room was messy. There were tables that were dirty when we came in and were still full of used plates afterward.

Great pizza. Split a half Supremo and half Royal Hawaiian. Have to go back for the homemade blueberry cheesecake!

My family and I went for dinner during peak ours. Good pizza when they are not busy. Suggest you get take out and if you like it crispy make sure they cook it extra or be ready to re heat pizza in oven at home. We have been there three times and each time we ask, only once was cooked right. Not a great place for service or speedy food. If you are not on a schedule or not too hungry its a good place to get pizza. It just takes a very long time and service is not that great if they are busy. Ultimately, 4 for food and 2.5-3 on service.

Awesome local joint. Great salads, pizza, desserts, and service. I'm in the area a few times a year and always make a point to stop for a bite. It's tucked away behind Merriman's so you'll have to look for it. Well worth a try.

Our plan was to eat at Tako Taco, but we weren't thrilled by the outside appearance. We decided to look around a little more. Our guidebook suggested Pau, but the listing said closed on Saturday. We were disappointed, but decided to take a chance and see if perhaps they changed their hours. Boy, were we glad we took that chance. Yes, they were open and we had a great meal. They have a great menu and all ingredients are super fresh. Everyone was very nice and helpful and restaurant was very clean. A must stop for anyone visitng Kamuela/Waimea.
