What a magical moment! It was my first dive and my godmother who has more than 100 dives wanted me to discover the world underwater! I wasn't disappointed. First I felt very secure surrounded by professionals. The vibe on the boat was great! We even saw a Whale! After learning all the basis on the surface Mary brought me 44 feets under! Woooooo it was great! After few minutes down there Mary taped my shoulder and as I turned around I see this huge Manta Ray! It was not only a simple dive, it was a really beautiful experience that came from the heart. I can't wait to go back!

We were referred to Sandwich Isle by a friend who'd been diving with them for many years and we could not be more pleased with them. Friendly start time (8:30am), small groups, great knowledge of local spots and what's there when you are there, snacks between dives, will take your BC and tank from you while you are in the water (so you don't have to climb up the steps with all that gear!), and a great positive attitude. If you're diving in Kona, you can't beat diving with Captain Steve and crew.

I was a referral to Sandwich Isle Dives from Kona Golf where we rented golf clubs. He told me that Mary would be the perfect instructor for my first dives after the confined water dives I did in Reno, Nevada. He was so right. From the moment I talked to the owner, Steve I knew it was the right decision. Being a much older new diver I did not want to do all 4 dives in two days to get my certification. Steve and Mary took great care of me and the other divers on the boat. We had 6 divers the first day and 4 divers the second day. They told us what to expect to see, where it was located, and we saw it. They had plenty of water and snacks in between dives and moved to a different location for each dive. If you want personal attention and a good dive give Sandwich a call. You will not be disappointed.

I did a lot of research on dive shops and was extremely pleased with Sandwich Isle. My girlfriend was diving for the first time and Mary clearly explained everything and paid close attention to her student. Dive sites were great, dive groups were small, dive gear was maintained, and even more importantly we loved & trusted the entire team ... Thanks Steve, Bob, Mary and Barry!

My parents and I have been diving with Sandwich Isle for more than 14 years, and I got certified with them 10 years ago. Even after 14 years, we still have an amazing time on the bottom and truly treasure the "intimate" and unique dive experience of 6 people max on the boat. On top of being incredibly safe and thorough, they ensure that everyone is happy and a great time is had. We won't dive with anyone else!

My husband, father and I booked a few dives with Sandwich Island Divers on our last trip to Hawaii (March 2014). It was our first diving experience, outside of our open water class, and my father was a more experienced diver. We didn't know what to expect, and wanted to go with a smaller company to get more personalized attention. From our first contact with Steve over the phone, until we left to come home (8 dives later) we were very glad we chose this group of people to dive with. Mary was our dive master for the first 2 days and she was so wonderful- not only did she make us feel comfortable in the water- she pointed out many types of fish, corals, nudebranchs, and even a shark to us- she had a slate she could let us know what they were. Barry was the 2nd divemaster on these dives and he was also letting us know if there was something else to see. As a first time diver Mary made me feel comfortable, and even led me through a small tunnel on a later dive- holding my hand- and always checking in to see if I was ok. I feel lucky to begin with such a wonderful person:) My father uses his air quickly so he was escorted back to the boat- and we got to continue our dives. They took us to beautiful spaces, where we were the ONLY divers there. There were snacks on board, and a friendly and enjoyable feeling- Steve, Mary and Barry were great! On our last dives Bob was the dive master, and he was also great. Mary was still there with the slate, we even saw an octopus eating an eel. Barry came along too, and brought a camera, taking pics of us and everything we saw, and emailed us the pictures later- Really great. On all the dives we did there were only 5 or 6 divers (plus the dive masters) and we were at all different levels- there were some much more experienced, who have been diving with Steve for years. Everyone was able to finish the dives in their own time- as there was always someone to take you back. The diving was incredible, so clear, calm, and beautiful- whale sounds, sharks, and so many beautiful fish. Even better was the kindness and community of Steve, Mary, Barry and Bob. We will definitely be back:) Thanks guys! Visited March 2014

These guys were AMAZING!!! Super personable, and really knowledgeable about the island, above and bellow the water. Our guide Bob took the time to show us a few cool sights and marine animals while we were under, and gave us plenty of time to explore. Needless to say, we'll be back! :)

We dived with Sandwich Isle Divers on our last trip to the Big Island. Our beloved Aloha Divers' has moved on to bigger and better things, and we went with SID on a good friend's recommendation. He didn't steer us wrong. The boat was comfortable and not overcrowded. The staff and dive masters were experienced and knowledgeable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our dives. We would have liked to get a little more depth and variety of sites, but the choices may have been more suited to our fellow divers and local conditions. We'll hope for mo bettuh mo deepuh on our next trip!

In my view, unless you're part of a group of divers that are larger than 6 people, I'd avoid the larger diver boats. I've used 2 of the smaller 6 diver boat operators. I believe they offer a much more personal experience and better service. The 1st dive boat operator I used was sold out the second day (I had used them on a prior trip), so they referred me to Sandwich Isle Divers. I was glad it happened as I was able to experience another dive operation and had a great experience. Most important to me was that I got to see different dive sites, landscapes and sea life. As a side note, when you look at their website photos, the boat looks smaller than it really is. The boat is safe and perfect this type of diving. They provided beverages and snacks between/after dives as you'd expect. They will ask you if you've been to any specific dive sites and ask what you'd like to see. They make changes based on the conditions (ie. visibility, if current is too strong). They'll give you an idea on what to expect at each dive site and type of sea life are usually found. Since I'm on vacation I do like them setting all the gear up and bring it to me at the boat edge. You can do it all yourself if you so desire. Steve (owner) and his crew were funny and very personable. Keep your eyes and head moving, you never know what you'll see...whether in the coral or larger fish passing through. You'll see a variety of sea life and our dive guides were great at pointing things out. If you're on a big boat you will have less say on where to go, how long you can stay under water if you are good at breathing, and during the dive everyone may trip over one another when trying to see something that gets pointed out. Be safe, respect the reef and sea life. You'll have a great time with this outfit!!! I'll be calling them on my next visit to the big island.

FIRST CLASS! Steve, Marry, Barry, & Bob are all FRIENDLY, KNOWLEDGEABLE non threatening dive pros! Went out 6 dives each one was professional, FUN and worn the money! Smaller operation 6 or so divers more individual attention ( two divers down with us at all times!) I am a fast breather so had to come up sooner, this DID NOT shorten the dive for any others. RECOMMENDED 100% THIS IS THE PLACE for ALL DIVERS REGARDLESS of EXPERIENCE LEVEL.

Great group with lots of experience! Their hospitality was pretty excellent. Went out with them for a morning dive group. The captain and crew are very safe, but love to have a good time too.

Sandwich Isle Divers was just what the diving doctor ordered -- intimate dive group, emphasis on safety, variety of tank options, excellent customer service, relaxed aloha attitude but on alert when it counts, and reasonable pricing. This shop was recommended by our mainland diving instructor who had used them over the years, and we weren't disappointed. We used Sandwich Isle Divers for their boat services and also to rent weights and tanks for shore dives. On our way out their door on our last day, we kept waving bye to everyone and telling them we'll see them again on our next trip to Kona.
