Awesooooooooome!!!!! I'm from LA so I know Mexican food! And let me tell you, this is the real deal. I went in a bit skeptical that there wouldn't be any Mexican food worth having in Hawaii but I was dead wrong. This place is very clean and really cute! Very nicely decorated with a big painting on the wall. They even had free samples of chips and guacamole! I loved the salsa bar! Really cute and fully stocked with good stuff. They had jalapenos, carrots, limes, a mild and a hot salsa, and one other thing I can't recall at the moment. They kept it full and very clean. I love that because a lot of places leave them kind of messy and for me, that's a big no no. But I didn't have to worry about this one. They had a very extensive menu for a quick serve place. They have everything here! And they also have daily specials...I think last night's was tamales. They also have pozole! That is a big plus in my book because a lot of places don't carry that. I didn't try it last night but I definitely will next time I go....maybe today? I had the al pastor burrito. Sooooo good! It's packed with beans and meat and pinapple and delicious-ness. The meat was very flavorful! And the tortilla was really good too! Pair it with the hot salsa from the salsa bar and you are set! Can't wait to try more stuff from this place!

After a day of snorkeling, my boyfriend and I were craving some good Mexican food. We are spoiled in San Diego, but we were hoping to get our fix here on the island. After yelp led us here, we saw that the restaurants decor and menu looking promising. I ordered a carne asada burrito and my boyfriend got a California burrito. Both of our burritos were very salty, the carne asada meat to be specific. I did like the beans in my burrito, but I found myself picking out the meat to even continue to eat it. Pros: clean, quick, meat tender, salsa bar Cons: meat salty

Alright, delicious, fast and convenient! Staff could be friendlier, and I laugh at the 'sample' area where you are asked to only take one sample, on the day I was there it was a tortilla chip and guacamole. Not a fan of their styrofoam take out containers but if you eat in its paper plates so I think they are trying to be earth friendly. Pretty good Mexican for a small town. They would earn a 4th star if they were just a bit friendlier.

This is a very clean place. Authentic Mexican food. The staff is friendly. Would recommend it. Horchata is also good.

Hungry for nachos we made the extra effort to walk up the hill to Patricio's. The nachos exceeded expectations, service was excellent , and we received our food quickly. Def worth the walk for some 5 star nachos. Bonus - price was right and they have a salsa bar with delish salsas! If you want nachos... do it!

We had a craving for authentic Mexican food during our stay on the Big Island. Based on Yelp ratings, we gave Patricio's a try. We have pretty high standards coming from Chicago, home of many authentic Mexican taquerias. My husband and I shared a variety of tacos - steak, al pastor, fish and pork in chile verde. The fish tacos were by far the best, a perfect balance of each ingredient. The others were good but not great. The al pastor and chile verde surprisingly didn't have much depth of flavor. Again, the beans and rice were nothing special. I had the house sangria, which was good but a very standard red sangria. We dined about a half hour before closing and I thought it was kind of weird we weren't offered chips and salsa.

Mediocre, carne asada in large tough chunks, flavor was good tho, small sized burritos and over priced for the food. Soda tastes like chemicals.

Came here from Oahu to find this great Mexican place. Can you believe they have lengua, and delicious! Carne Asada Burrito also great!

Awesome food. I'm from Ecuador and I love Mexican food. And I have to recognize that this restaurant is one of the best places to eat Mexican food. You have to try it!!

    (5)
  • Lisa N.

Pastor meat is amazing!! I loved the fresh salsa bar too. I got the green salad with pastor added. Salad was Fresh and big portion. Don't forget to try the sangria! Casual atmosphere and reasonably priced. I got my big salad and a corona for $14.

Today was my first experience at Patricio's. The daily special today was Pozole Rojo With Pork and it was very good. There was a good amount of pork. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Wish I could rate this place higher, but our experience left us feeling disappointed. Four of us got food to go from here, and overall, we thought the food was "eh, alright." We ordered a Chile relleno, carne asada burrito, and two chicken quesadillas. Some ingredients I ordered in my burrito were off from what was ordered, and the chicken quesadillas came without any chicken. Also, their fountain drink machine was producing soda with low syrup (tasted like carbonated water). We probably won't be coming back, but If you do end up giving this place a shot, try the horchata. It's actually pretty good!

  • Kaitlin C.

Cute little place in a strip mall. Seats about 30 people. Decent value - ordered the shrimp quesadilla and hubby ordered the chile verde tacos. Both were great. Most authentic Mexican food we've had on the island. Salsa bar is a nice touch. Salsa could be spicer however there was a bottle of Tapatio that I used to fix that.

Super friendly peeps and food is REAL Mexican & oh so good! Prices really good too! I love the burritos, nachos, taquitos & tostadas most. Try the Horchatta (house made..YUM!) & FLAN!

Excellent fresh food and friendly service. There are so many choices here, something for everyone! I highly recommend Patricio's and they also do catering!

If I could give a half a star it would be more of an accurate review, if you like RICE and if you like to pay a lot of $$ this is your spot!! I know not many good spots for good Mexican food on da B.I. (Big Island) but you are better off going next door for grinds... Wether going to the beaches up north or coming off the plane heading back into town. NOT WORTH IT!! Ohh and the guy taking my money never looked at me once last time in.I order da asada burrito and got a cute lil burrito with a few bits of asada and all da rice you want! This has happened more than once, twice n three times....... Just saying..... I'd rather drive to Hilo side use the gas and see Lucy for some KINE!! Not worth the money one bit!!!

  • Liz K.

I use to LOVE this place! Now I order a carne ensada plate thinking in going to get this luscious citrus soaked carne.....wrong instead I get a pretty looking chopped steak with a few onions, sprinkled with cilantro....what just happened! Dry and zero flavor..disappointment come on you better soak that carne for a day at least.....but I still like your shrimp.

Was craving Mexican food and this really hit the spot. This is a casual fast-food eatery, with Hawaii prices. We had the chicken enchiladas and I had two ala-carte tacos - al pastore style. The chicken enchiladas came with two healthy sized enchiladas covered in a mound of lettuce, sauce, sour cream and cheese, a side order of rice and beans. The rice was not bland, it had good flavor and the beans were really good. The chicken was seasoned really well giving the enchiladas an interesting and yummy taste. We also bought a bag of chips, since they didn't give any out free. The Al Pastore pork was marintated in a pineapple seasoning and it was very good. The tacos were good, but beware there is only meat and some cilantro mixture on them - no lettuce, cheese or tomatoes. There is a salsa bar with a few different types of salsas, hot, medium and mild, limes and spicy carrots. There was supposed to be pico de gallo but I didn't see any. The mild salsa was not even mildy spicy and I'm a big wimp when it comes to heat. Drinks are one refill only from the fountain drink, but they also have the Mexican sodas available. Service was fast and friendly, everything was hot and it was about $24 for the two of us to eat and get drinks and chips. I would definitely eat here again.

  • Konascene.net K.

Not good at all. I got the chile rellano plate. The chile was mediocre with a disapointing plain pasta tomato sauce from a can poured on top. Seriously, it doesn't take long to make a decent red sauce to put on top. The rice was so obviously old/stale reheated that I couldn't even stomach eating it beyond the first bite and the beans were fresh.... out of a can as well. My SO got the carne asada fries which were also blah and we ended up tossing them out. I don't know how this place has anything more than a star and a half selling reheated crap from cans and bland main entrees/side dishes??

We stumbled across this place on the way to the airport. Needed something prior to getting on our long flight. Simple, small Mexican food with excellent flavor. Great place to get a quick meal.

    (5)
  • Linda C.

This place was our go-to on vacation when we wanted a quick, budget-friendly dinner after a day out at the beach. Not many vegetarian choices but what they do have really fills the gap and tastes good. Good, simple, tasty mexican food.

I'm 37 years old and have had Mexican food at many restaurants in the USA and Mexico. I've also NEVER left a 1-star review, until this one. Every Mexican restaurant I've walked into (until this one) i've asked if they can make me carne asada enchiladas (f they don't have it on the menu BUT have carne asada) IF I pay extra and they've all said YES! These people said no, and that was that. Exactly what is so hard if you sell enchiladas, have carne asada AND I'm willing to pay a premium?

Awesome fresh food. They close too early but food is great. Ummm they are getting it. . Or sibt perfect but the food is fresh . They need margaritas

  • Jan D.

What a gem! Just wish we found this place before our last day on Kona. I love Mexican food and this hit a home run with me. I ordered the "two tostada plate" with chicken. Nice crispy puffy tortilla with so much delicious tasty chicken (enough for another one) topped with chopped lettuce, huge amount of pico de gallo, large dollops of sour cream, homemade guacamole and grated cheese. I ate both tostadas and was stuffed... Actually too much but I couldn't stop eating. There's even a nice little salsa bar.

    (5)
  • Natalie A.

Taquitos are OK and they have a self serve salsa bar which is nice...but coming from California and being Mexican, I still say the beans taste canned and the rice is always dry...but I keep coming back because its a good location and decent. Plus we really don't have many choices for fast food. If I have time to sit and wait I always head over to el maguey in old industrial. The portions here aren't that great and its a little on the pricy side.

    (3)
  • Christopher R.

Salsa, salsa & salsa...they need to bottle all of their salsas that you get to enjoy in unlimited quantity while eating at this fast food joint that has five star taste! The salsas deserve to be enjoyed like a fine wine. Yep, they are that good! Try anything! It's made fresh to order and is authentic! The tacos are a sure hit that includes homemade shells. We have only tried ground beef and marinated pork and can say that this is NOT your average place. They take pride in their food and their establishment... It's spotless!

Finally, stopped in to try Patricio's today. I've been flopping between vegetarian and vegan. This is my last day before going back to pure vegan eating, and wanted to hit them up. I had a bag of their chips and a vegetarian burrito with black beans. The burrito was big enough to split for $7.75. Salsa bar was a treat. The food was tasty, and definitely one of the better taquerias in town. Admittedly, it isn't OMG I want to eat here all the time, but it was good enough for me to think of returning soon. I'm going to have to ask if they will veganize one of their veggie options.

Wow. We were looking for a place to eat on the Bog Island that wasn't going to break the bank. This place is it! The food was delicious. I had the chile verde burrito, my husband had the breakfast burrito. We are Mexican food snobs. This place was great in our book. Good guac and excellent salsas. We also ate at Los Tres Mex in Waikoloa. That was OK but this was really tasty.

    (5)
  • Sarah L.

Pastor tacos were good. Rice was nasty! And only 3 stars bc the girl behind the counter was too busy counting tip money to refill the salsa after I asked twice... Not cool.

  • Mike Z.

Actually 3.5 stars. Ever since moving to the big island I have been trying to find one great Mexican restaurant. We are getting closer with Patricios Taqueria. I ordered the carne Assad plate with rice ad beans. The plate came out piping hot. The tacos were filled with meet and cheese. I asked for no cilantro and onions. The tacos themselves were delicious . Good flavor. The rice and beans however were kind of bland. Wish there were more flavor there. The salsa bar was good but there wasnt one really good HOT salsa. I also ordered a negra modelo. Overall.. A nice fix for that Mexican food desire. High Point: the tacos were flavorful and full of meat Low point: the rice and beans could use more umph. Chances ill be back? : Yes! When I'm in the area again I will stop by for sure

  • Di H.

I had a burrito de lengua and it wasnt too great. Normally i'd expect the meat to be flavorful and tender, this version didn't stand out and I really can't tell that I'm eating tongue. Their chille rejno was average as well.

I had been wanting some Mexican food for awhile and looked on Yelp for somewhere to eat, I came across a few places although their reviews didn't look all that good. Then I came upon Patricio's and they had pretty good reviews. Although not close to the hotel I was at, the one time I don't mind to drive is when its for food. Will travel for food! Anyways its a Mexican place in a strip mall. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with red sauce. It was a large portion that came with beans and rice. The rice was just okay. I like their salsas and I liked that they had jalapeños in their salsa bar. The enchilada was good, the only thing I would have made it even better is if they used a corn tortilla as opposed to flour. You order at the counter and find a seat, they are pretty fast and the prices are reasonable.

Best Mexican food in Kona hands down. Had torta al pastor and chimichanga. Torta was properly executed just like in Mexico. Chimi was very good. Large portion. Torta came with chips and chimi with sour cream and guacamole. Third visit and still great food here

  • Jon A.

Patricio's...a small taqueria, they to OK. Everything I've eaten has been a tad over salted and not premium cut beef/pork , but what do you expect. It's cheap and easy. The chips are legit and the fresh guac is really good. I think I'm just spoiled from Cali/mainland trips. Grab a cervesa and enjoy

  • Neato T.

I've been in to both Patricio's locations a bunch of times in the last month...just wanted to say I had a positive chicken taquito experience this afternoon. I passed on the beans and rice and just got the crispy taquitos a la carte. I don't know if there is an actual Patricio but if there is, he is my friend.

We had everything here! Great food, decent price, fast service! The whole family loves this place! Family friendly and my favorite "Carne Asada" Take out,... Dine in- is best, served hot and all the condiments are kept at arms reach and chilled. Very clean!!! Great job

  • Shannon B.

The only reason they get two stars is that the food was good. Other than that, terrible service and rude employees. Halfway through our meal, we ordered some chips. Didn't eat many so I went to the salsa bar to get more salsa. My nephew, 9, followed me to get some limes. I walked away and one of the employees yelled at him "that's enough". It made him cry and ruined our experience in the Aloha state.

Still the best Mexican Food in Kona! I love the condiment bar and daily specials are fabulous! Love that I can get a beer also! Keep up the good food and friendly atmosphere! Habanero's cannot touch your tasty food! :)

Hey, I get to write the first review? That's a first........ but let's get to the review, eh? Went in for takeout last night (Friday) after they'd had a write up in the local paper. They were slammed, I've added a couple pics. So, first Friday night since they opened, and they're quite busy....... so I will cut them some slack. Ordering was at first a bit confusing as they have a list of specials on a chalk board to the right, and they looked quite good, but they are only day specific, so if you want enchiladas you need to come on a certain day, etc. I couldn't really see the menu posted above the kitchen, so I grabbed one at the counter and waded in. I had their Ensalada Grande with chicken, a carne asada burritto, and a chicken quesadilla. All were delicious. The staff when ordering at the counter was friendly, albeit pressured out. It's nice to see a new mexican restaurant arrive; if one more thai/asian fusion place appears I may run for the hills lol. Their primary focus is tacos and burritos, and it will be interesting to see what specials they develop. Prices are competitive with other mexican, and they are conveniently in the same shopping center as KTA and Pier 1. Since this was a takeout meal I'll withhold comment on what happens inside, but I'll be back!

Best fish tacos on the island .... Got to have one every week !!! Very friendly casual dining ... Someday I'll try something else ... Maybe !

Avoid the burritos way too much filler ( rice n beans). The tacos are good stick with those. Their salsa is good too.

Awesome Mexican food. I had the chicken torta the first time, carne Masada torta this time. Good food, good prices! I have never heard a negative comment about Patricio's, always a winner!

Great food! I am from California and very picky about my Mexican food. I was impressed about the great flavors and spice. Lovely to get a taste of Mexico and California in Hawaii. Thanks Lisa Bayer for the recommendation.

A friend of the owners recommended we stop by Patricio's to eat and in a nutshell it was an unexpectedly good Mexican food restaurant on par with many I have tried in California. Food was fresh and flavorful with good portions. Nice selection to. People working their were super nice and very helpful. (NIT: AC wasn't working too well but folks working there were quick to acknowledge and responsive by calling somebody to take a look). I definitely plan to have Patricio's be on my short list for when I visit the Big Island again.

Almost the best in Kona. Carne asada is good but would recommend the fish tacos over the carne asada burritos. Guacamole is ok and so is the service.

You know you had a good experience when you want to write a review as soon as you get home. We live in Kona half the year and when we find a really good place it's important to get the word out and support a good restaurant, since it's so sad to return 6 months later to see they've closed! The food is solid. It's the best mexican I've had in Kona. We got the bag of chips and guacamole (the guac is not authentic and at first glance it looks like that lime green stuff from Costco in the container) and even though it was unusual, it was spicy good. I had shrimp tacos my husband had chicken enchiladas with rice and two types of beans to choose from. The best part for me was the salsa bar....I like fixing things up the way I want them...mmm hot/med red salsa, green salsa, limes, spicy carrots, gooooood stuff!! If they changed a few things I'd give them five stars: use real plates and silverware-if you MUST use plastic silverware try to get sturdier stuff, don't charge for the chips, add some onions and cilantro to the salsa bar. Gracias!

Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. I tried the chimichanga and this fish burrito and they were so amazing I can't get the taste out of my head. The fish burrito was especially amazing I definitely recommend it!

I finally decided to try this place out after hearing all the buzz about it. I heard some good reviews and some bad ones but being curious I decided to see for my self and I was glad I did. I had the Chile verde taco plate it was really delicious perfect authentic mexican food taste couldn't ask for more. I can't wait to go back and try out the rest of the menu.

Not only did we have a fantastic meal, but I was floored by the honesty of the courteous staff. I stuffed a few bills out of my unorganized billfold into the tip can. One of them was the emergency hundred I keep, yikes. While dining I organized my bills again and noticed it was missing. Just then the hostess quietly said are you missing a big bill. What a Christmas treat, thanks again for your honesty, and I hope Santa makes a long stop down here on the 20th latitude, for my new pals at Patricio's.

A few veggie options- quesadilla, burrito & enchilada. Affordable but not a place I'd drive out of the way for again.

Decent Mexican food. When you walk in the atmosphere feels like you've stepped into Mexico, with traditional decor and Mexican music playing in the background. It's clean and festive. Small, with six tables (four four), can easily push some tables together to accommodate more. There are a few other places to eat in that shopping center, and there is a nice outdoor eating area, central to the small shopping center. Traditional Mexican dishes, with off the menu daily specials, include Chile Relleno, Pasole, Tamales, Menudo, etc. I personally, had the ceviche (fish). You can have it on a tostada or with chips. It was good. Not great, but good :) Overall my experience was a four.

One star ONLY because I can't go lower. I don't know where to start. Decided I wanted to switch it up, instead of having Don's, BAD IDEA. The service was DISGUSTING! I should've walked out when i noticed there was only one family seated in the dining area. The cashier was incredibly rude from the get go, as my friend and I ordered she rushed us and seemed extremely agitated. Then as we waited for our food, an older man approached the counter and asked the cook, if the tray of food that she just set down was his food. After giving him tons of attitude about how she doesn't know, he sat back down. Then the cook, gives us our food. We got a chicken burrito and a chicken chimichanga, we ordered a carne asada burrito and a carne asada chimichanga. In a addition to the horrific service we got, our food was equally horrible. It was extremely bland and freezing cold on the inside. I wanted to get my money back but didn't want to deal with such hostile people. I highly recommend Habaneros's in Keauhou, friendly people and DELICIOUS FOOD!

I enjoyed a carne asada burrito for lunch during a December 2013 visit to Kona. Great taste and delicious salsas (especially the verde salsa). Soda machine broken and counter girl could have cared less... I'd go back for sure, for the food.

We often eat at Mexican taco shops on vacation since there are vegetarian options. No tofu, but beans and rice, cheese and corn dishes are good. We ended up eating here twice during our two weeks on the Big Island. Cheese enchiladas came with red or green sauce and a side of rice and beans, good and filling. The kid's portions are inexplicably huge, the kid's burrito was too big, but we helped finish it for our daughter. The cheese quesedillas are pretty simple, but tasted good. I tried the beef burrito and fish tacos. The beef burrito was very big and filled with tender beef, plus the nicely spicy guacamole. While the fish tacos are not the best I have had, they were fine. I wish there was more fish! Having the salsa bar was nice, 3 choices of salsa, plus limes, spicy carrots and pickled jalapenos. Buy a bag of chips for $1.50 and dip away with the salsas, or pay for a larger bowl of spicy guacamole. We saw some other people get some huge plates of loaded nachos and some impressive looking salads. Order the horchata, very good taste, or get some super cold beer. The kitchen is wide open and immaculately clean. The place was pretty busy, always a good sign. Don't be lazy, just clean up your own table, there are no servers to serve you and clean up after you. Simple, easy, and tasty food, just the way we like it.

  • Aaron M.

While the baja fish tacos are good, I've now had some other things that are not all that great. It seems like it is getting worse. A whole can of beans and almost no meat is not really a carne asada burrito- especially for $9. I'll probably never go back. Get the fish tacos if you go, or don't go.

  • Mark S.

It was good mexican food, but nothing special. I had the chicken burrito and it was actually quite bland. I think my wife made the better choice with the carne asada tacos. Also, note the chips and salsas are not complimentary at this place.

    (3)
  • Janelle R.

Very pleasantly surprised. Carne asada was very tender and flavorful. The cook was happy to customize my veggie bowl and it was fresh and delicious. Good portion sizes, authentic and delicious salsas. My only complaint is that you have to pay for chips.

Having moved from Texas, I know good Mexican food and this is it. Super simple, no frills and hot. Vegetarian burrito is the BEST I've ever had. Places in TX just get too fancy sometime, but not this. The BF is king of pastor and carne asada tacos and said these were the best he's had. Plus, it's pretty cheap (mid-range for good ol' Texans) and well worth it.

    (5)
  • Gabriel P.

This place needs meat in their dishes that say they have meat. The burritos are all filler. Beans rice and whatnot. I'm sticking with El Maguey. Look it up. The menudo was ok. Hard to mess that up. If you like meat in your food don't go here. If your a vegan it's perfect.

We chose Patricio's Taqueria for lunch yesterday based on yelp reviews and ratings (about 4.5). The restaurant was very clean, the menu ample, the salsa bar offered a tasty selection, and the food was standard taqueria fare -- acceptable, but not out of this world. Everything was prepared to order, and the service was friendly and competent. I have no specific complaints, other than that the food was just okay. I will try other Mexican restaurants around Kailua Kona before I revisit Patricio's.

We've eaten here twice during our stay in Kona. The first time I got the chicken enchiladas, which were pretty meh. The sauce had a very tomatoey taste to it, and the rice has peas and carrots in it. I'm surprised no one else has commented on this - as soon as I taste a pea or carrot, I'm immediately thinking about cheap frozen TV dinners or bad school lunches. Keep those out of Spanish rice! The second time I got the chicken burrito, which was much much better - but again, those peas and carrots really threw me off. They have such a distinctive flavor. Either way, my husband loved his carne asada burrito, and the chicken burrito was good enough that we will definitely be back.

On my recent vacation to Kona, I was craving Mexican Food. Since I am from San Jose I consider myself an expert on authentic Mexican Food. We have Mexican restaurants on every corner. Patricio's Mexican Taqueria was recommended by the hotel staff were I was staying at. I will never just walk into a restaurant without a recommendation. In addition to a recommendation, I look for several things before I purchase a meal for my family. Below, I will grade the following: Clean kitchen: 5 stars (I like that I can see my food being prepared) Clean Restaurant & Bathroom: 5 stars Friendly Staff: 5 stars (very helpful) Reasonably priced: 5 stars (it takes me awhile to get used to the higher food prices compared to the main land). I didn't hear my husband complain about the prices which this doesn't happen too much while in Hawaii. Freshness: 5 stars* Authentic: 5 stars* (Being Mexican I know home cooked food when I taste it) Overall, I was impressed with food and service I would definitely return to Patricio's Mexican Taqueria when I return to Kona. Plus, I love that is family owned business.

We went here twice on our Big Island vacation. It's a great option for vegetarians. The service was friendly, and the restaurant was clean and casual. We liked the nachos, veggie burrito and cheese enchilada. And jarritos to drink!

First time I ate here was a very confusing experience. I asked the girl some basic questions and she looked at me like I was speaking another language. The food was nice. Beans and rice tasted good. Carne asada a little dry. The portions aren't like the kind you get in California. I can eat one plate combo easily, I guess its healthier that way.

For 10 bucks you can get one awesome tostada (i suggest the al pastor) with beans & rice, with a soda. Great deal, freaking awesome food!!!

Really good new Mexican food in Kona. We have been going by once a week now. The flavors are authentic and tasty and the menu has lots to choose from. Also the staff is friendly and its very clean inside So far I love the burritos and we tried the chicken nachos last time which were big. Also, the freshly made chips and salsa are ono. You can take a bag home to grind later too. Nice to have a place that does Mexican food right and at decent prices for Hawaii.

Been there three times now and loved every bit. Clean, nice service and Mexicans cooking. I had taquitos, carne asada burrito and a chicken quesadilla in all. The quesadilla was amazing good! Prices are excellent and salsa bar is a nice touch. Very busy place but food comes out quick. Can't wait to go back!

Love this place. The chicken taquitos and the Pork Torta are amazing. Veggie burrito with added sour cream and the chicken quesadilla are all yum. Highly recommend. The service and the food. They have been extremely busy with the new opening, so be patient when you come in on a busy night. Though know it is worth the wait!

We were in search of a good mexican eatery and were not disappointed here! My husband had the fish tacos and they were yummy and fresh. The carne asado buritto was really good and also the vegetarian burrito got a thumbs up. We are all from California and looking for a decent burrito/taco place. The place was clean, pleasant atmosphere and the staff/owner was super friendly. Would highly recommend Patricio's !

We'd heard lots of positive praise for this restaurant and decided to give it a try. It's located in the KTA strip mall. You order your food at the counter and are called to pick it up when it has been prepared. I have to give a shout out to whomever helped with the décor. A beautiful mural graces one wall with papel picado banners strung across the ceiling and pretty tile tables. They offer a salsa bar...nice touch. Their regular menu didn't rock my boat...mostly tacos, burritos, enchiladas. Then I spotted the "special" chalkboard and saw my favorite - Chili Rellenos. There was no price on the board. We ordered two chili relleno specials, one a la carte taco, and a drink (soda). I was surprised to see a red sauce on our relleno, but it was delicious. The plate came with rice and beans. For those accustomed to American-style tacos, you might be disappointed. The tacos were traditional Mexican, much like the ones you would find south of the border. Our bill came to $28. While the food was very good, we thought the price a little high.

Great authentic Mexican food. I sampled all their tacos and had the chile relleno as the special. Everything on the menu is made fresh! Probably the best Mexican food I've had in HI...just have to go to Kona to enjoy!

This is a great place, friendly and helpful staff, generous portions, delicious food. I am a vegetarian and so was very happy that the homemade beans are vegetarian. The burrito was simple but just right, and the guacamole incredibly creamy. My friends had fish and shellfish tacos and loved them.

New mexican restaurant, the decor is nice and casual, i ordered the carne asada burrito, where's the beef? it was like a rice and bean burrito, not a big fan of frozen carrots and peas in the rice. But i really liked there tomatillo salsa. I have eaten better carne asada burritos before but not on this island. I would say this is just a little better than Taco Del mar. not saying much. Maybe the other items are better. Will need to go back and try a chicken burrito, or tostada.

I really really love thier authentic food. I especially love their daily specials and great service. I also love that they have a salsa bar. Tamales are all handmade the way they should be.

Fish tacos were awful. Tasted like frozen battered old fish. Would not recommend the fish tacos what so ever. Although I did enjoy their shrimp ceviche. Very pricey too. I wouldn't eat there again nor would recommend them. Sorry just being honest.

I love idea of having a Taqueria in Kona, I was very excited to see a Mexican restaurant because I am from Northern California, where they are on every corner. The decor was beautiful, and the staff was personable, and happy to be there. The menu has a great variety. The specials looked amazing, but I was in the mood for some Nachos con Carne asada! I sat down and my food was up quick. The chips were good, but the toppings were slim. Cheese, beans, meat, guacamole was sufficient, and yummy sour cream. I found myself eating the middle and having several chewy chips left over. Maybe switch to grilling the nachos in an oven type appliance. And more cheese, dress those babies up! Make it appealing to the eye. I will say the beans were awesome! Perfect amount of salt. Paper plates are fine, but Mexican food should be hot, and my food was not. The woman cooking, looks as if she knows good traditional Mexican cooking, I recommend letting her cook as if it were her family she were feeding. Using fresh ingredients from markets, or Costco, will be cost effective in the future when people are crowding the door for more! Sangria was good, and a drink fountain with refills is awesome! The salsa bar; good idea. Overall Patricio's has potential, spice up the food, like the decor, and I definitely will be back

Food was quick and good nightly specials. We ordered fish tacos which I liked, hubby didnt like the sauce. Good salsa bar. We also split carne asada nachos which hubby thinks were microwaved. Great guacamole.

My new favorite place on the Big Island for a quick Mexican bite. Friendly service, tasty horchata, nice salsa bar (which can be hard to find in Hawaii), and tasty food!

I was hoping to find some good Mexican food close to my hotel. I wanted to start out my day with a good meal before we went out on our vacation activities. I had the enchilada plate. They were cold, the cheese was not melted and they lacked any semblance of good flavor. My wife had the chorizo burrito and complained that it was too salty. She was not able to finish it because it fell apart due to too much grease accumulating near the bottom. The salsa bar was a bright spot. I'm leaving here with an uneasy feeling hoping I don't have stomache issues later. I will keep looking for a good Mexican restaurant.

Fish tacos and shrimp tacos are ONO! I'm also a fan of their refried beans (that are vegetarian). The fresh salsa bar is a nice touch, but I wish they had a salsa available that packed a little more heat. Dining room is very cute, but can get a little crowded. Fish burrito & Chile Relleno are pretty flavorless... Not a fan of those two entrées.

My favorite is actually their chips, I am old skewl Vegas boy, and as a kid in the 70s, our parents would drive out of their way to get "Macayo's" chips, and these are almost as good the closest I have seen in 30 years. Tacos were good also, and they serve cold beer. Will come back for more

Love the chicken tacos in a Mexican marinade sauce! Best tacos in kona! Would give 5 stars but my rice was a bit salty and my beans were cold.

Decent Mexican food. Al pastor is marinated in pineapple and has a delightfully sweet flavor, nice to see something a little different. Pork chile verde is one of my favorites since it's very moist. Most items are standard and fulfill expectations of basic Mexican food. Definitely want to try the chile rellenos. Great prices as well.

I was raised in San Diego, so I'm very familiar with SoCal style mexican food. I won't say this tastes like home, cause it doesn't. What I will say is it's damn good and some of the best Mexican I've had in both Oahu and Hawaii. Not many Mexican joints outside of SoCal do carne asada fries, but this place does. They also do a mean Cali Burrito, which originated in San Diego. Their horchata is also very excellent. If I'm feeling like I want some good food, I got to Patricio's.

Yesterday we had a good lunch at Patricio's. As a Californian I'm used to having the best taquerias in walking distance from home so I am thankful that taquerias are springing up around Kona to quench my need for meat on a corn tortilla. We had chips, taco plate (al pastor), fish taco (a la carte), carne asada quesadilla and horchata. All were good. Not the 'real' kind of al pastor that is meat on a spit, but they were fine. I was happy there was a salsa bar even if just average quality. I sure do wish they had carnitas and my other favorite tripitas. Next time I will try their pork chill verde. I would eat at Patricio's again, but it is not my favorite taqueria in the area. That award goes to Mi Casita Potosina Mexican Grill in Holualoa, which is better, but more expensive. Patricio's is much better than Los Habaneros in the Keauhou Shopping Center, though. Plusses, the place was clean, cute and the service was good.

Finally some good Mexican food! We were told by others Mexican food restaurant not to expect good Mexican food here on the island well they were wrong. Patricios is definitely the place. I'm from Arizona and we in the Southwest know Mexican food. I expect to come back here weekly

Best Mexican food in Kona by far, or the Big Island for that matter.. Love love love the steak tacos. The guacamole is awesome and only a dollar more than the chips & salsa so go for it. The fish tacos are are fried but not bad. This place it's a very affordable for eating out in Kona. Great deal and wonderful food. I saw Eddie Vedder eating here last week so it has to be good right? Seriously though, best deal in town.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
