It's okay. Turned off by the flies always around me and my food. Not just one fly but a few. Unsanitary. The Lau Lau burger was okay but it had no butterfish and I would expect butterfish for the price they charged with no fries. Kimchi burger was not a kimchi burger....not spicy or any kick to it. Teri burger was gross. Too expensive.

Writing this as I wait for a rainbow shave ice. So far it's been more than 20 minutes, lots of flies flying around. Really... how long does it take to make a shave ice. Sad and grossed out by all the flies. Even more irking is the ridiculous waiting time for a shaved ice. Will let everyone know how the shave ice was whenever we do get it.

Best food in Kona. We came from Waikoloa just to eat here. Everything was exceptional. I had the Kalbi this time and it rocked. And I'm a Kalbi snob. Already planning our return trip.

Happened to come across this place when we were looking for a different restaurant which we never found so we decided to stop at Kalamas. We tried the mahi mahi burger and it was absolutely amazing! We ended up going back again before our trip was over and got them again. Highly recommended!

This place has the BEST Laulau I have ever had! Not only are the portions very large (2 laulau for a plate), the meat was very tender and moist. Not to mention with amazing flavor! I would most definitely recommend this dish to any local who has a craving for extremely ono local food or the tourist who wants to try authentic Hawaiian cuisine. You will not be disappointed! The Teri fries are also surprisingly fantastic.

Kalamas is a little food stop tucked away in the Kona International Market. It's located in the open food court and shares space with a few other eateries. We went on a Friday and it wasn't busy, but it was the busiest eatery in the food court. If you're in a rush, don't expect to eat here. We ordered two kalbi plates (nothing special, but good), a kim chee burger (winnahs!) and teri cheese fries (yummy), and waited at least 15 minutes. Good thing is I guess the food is made to order, right? Not sure if you can call in and pick up, but that may be a better option if you're short on time. The menu has a lot of options and is mostly burgers or local plates. I would definitely eat here again and try something new...or just opt for the kim chee burger again because that was seriously super delicious. The burger wasn't some pre-made crap that you buy from the store. It was fat and juicy and made from scratch. In my opinion, that's the best kind of burgers.

Kalamas is really good. I've enjoyed both times I've eaten there. On my first visit I had the Eric (Rabin) Mahimahi Burger which was very good, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it "melted in my mouth" like their menu claims. The thick cut crinkle french fries also were very good. On my second visit I had the John Boy Kamakau's Kalbi with brown rice and Meleana's potato mac salad. The kalbi was excellent and a great potato mac salad too. Every local-style restaurant has kalbi and this might be the best version I've had on the island. My friend had the cheeseburger and french fries. They use Kulana's local grass fed beef so the meat tasted great and it had a nice char. My complaints are that the food takes a very long time to get, but this could be that the fries are cooked to order each time. The food does come out nice and hot, but if you're in a hurry order ahead. Also, I don't care for the soft buns they use for the hamburger and Mahimahi burgers. They are too soft and lacking flavor. I like a bun that is more toothsome, maybe with some sesame seeds. But my biggest complaint is that I wish they used a flavored aioli instead of just mayonnaise. I LOVE the aiolis at Ultimate Burger, Village Burger (Waimea) Sundried Specialties, Umeke's and Annie's Island Fresh Burgers. Kalamas burgers could be so much better if they got on the aioli bandwagon.

WOW AM I STUFFED!!! Delicious local food served at this 'ohana affair. Tucked away in the kona international market place. They currently specialize in burgers (try the laulau burger! Looks simple but is fantastic!) and plate lunches. Very classic local flavors. Sweet (yet not over powering) teriyaki sauce on all dishes that require it. Just like the wonderful Teri cheese fries. Tell the owners that you saw this review on yelp and the Nahale-a family sent you! Enjoy!!!!

I've eaten here twice and the food here is really good. The burgers are good and decent priced, and the plates are very tasty. I haven't tried the shave ice yet.

Restaurant is located in the Kona International Market. Dining room is an open air food court (attracts lots of flies). Burgers were good. We had the Laulau Burger and the Kimchee Burger. Both were creative and flavorful. Prices are a little on the higher side for burgers ( 2 burgers, 1 side of fries, and an iced tea. $24). But over all a good experience.
