I have mixed feelings about this place. Hipsterish interiors, service and the coffee was all so good! My husband and I ordered Egg Benedict. I would've been happier if they hadn't made me fish my eggs out of the-pool-of-Hollandaise . The Salmon was saltier than usual. I ate it all. But wasn't too happy.

I had just arrived on Maui and this was the first coffee shop I came to that wasn't a Starbucks. Nothing against Starbucks, but I was on a new island and I wanted to try out the local culture. It was a 4 star joint on Yelp, so I gave it a shot. The first thing I noticed about Maui Coffee Roaster was the atmosphere. It had a very college-y/"chill"/down to earth vibe, as local coffee shops are wont to do, and it seemed like the sort of place I could stay at for hours doing homework or chatting. It was early on a Saturday when I got there so it was practically empty. I ordered a coffee and a blueberry bagel+cream cheese. For coffee, they give you a large mug and a saucer, and you can fill it up yourself. I'm no coffee conneissuer, but it was good coffee. The bagel was pretty meh as far as bagels go, but I was hungry so I didn't mind much. That was my experience, and this was my review.

Wow! This place is great. We have stopped at a couple different coffee places on the island and this was by far the best. The ladies were so helpful with our questions about the menu. We tried their brew that came from a tap. So rich in flavor. No need for syrups or anything. We ended up trying an iced Thai coffee. Such a great choice! Definitely coming back!

On vacay in Maui and discovered this little place when we were dining at 'Da Kitchen' across the street. Of course me being the coffee addict / lover that I am, I hauled my family of 8 in for a cup of afternoon Joe. I ordered the Thai high iced coffee (condensed milk, whole milk, 2/3 espresso shots)... If it sounds sweet and dense to you - it is! I feel like I would've enjoyed their cold brew much more to get the uninterrupted, bold maui coffee flavor. I diluted the Thai high with a lot of ice and water because it was just way too sweet for me. If you're into lots and lots of cream and sugar with your iced coffee, this will be heaven in a cup for you. We also ordered the chocolate cold brew - good but not great. It was slightly watery and tasted like a watered down mocha. Since Maui coffee roasters is a must try on the island, I'll be going back for their cut and dry cold brew blend to get the full 100% maui coffee experience.

Best cup of coffee and a very friendly vibe.

It was surprisingly difficult to find a decent place to get some non-Denny's breakfast in this part of town. We went to Maui Coffee Roasters because it looked like they at least had bagels. It turned out, not only did they have bagels, but they had deluxe bagel and egg sandwiches. I had the huevos bagel, which had chile pesto (wasn't spicy at all though), tomatoes, jalepenos, cheddar cheese, and egg. It was good, but not spicy. Also had an iced tea, which was great. Service was friendly, although my food order took so long I was just about finished with my large iced tea by the time it came.

I have been going here for years but I have to say as of late I am not pleased with the service or the coffee. Walk in and not greeted by the cashier. Order what you like and it's not what you ordered....definitely not true baristas just kids gossiping and socializing behind the counter. Pick up your drink, point out it is not what you ordered i.e. Order a cappuccino and they give you a latte. They know better...again not true baristas. Really really sad this place has gone down. Have gone multiple times hoping it was just a fluke but sadly will not be returning.

I got a really tasty cold brew with nitro, yum. Pretty small portion (8 oz) but that was probably for the better. A bit expensive but what isn't on the islands?

    (4)
  • Christian D.

Delicious coffee. Got their nitro cold brew and a slice of pie. This place has great coffee and you can buy it by the pound. They will even grind it up for you. Delicious coffee and a mellow chill atmosphere.

The only reason I'm not going all out with the 5 Starzos is due to opening at 7am... Us mainlanders like our cuppa Java to start the day! This place is located in the business area of Maui so don't plan on walking out back to wale watch or stick your feet in the sand... The young lad and lady working this joint are chill.. Nothing fluffy... I like it like that's... Love the ambiance and decor... Lots of veggie options... Heading to Whole Foods next to stock up on some healthy go to grub for my day or I would totally indulge in a veggie bagel with vegan cream cheese... Standby... I just may! Wraps Salads Sandwiches Lots of locals and a couple outdoor seating areas... Without a view... Clean bathroom to use, just ask the cute barista for the key... It's on a big spoon incase you get the munchies on your way in ;) Love the upbeat tunes!

Why go to Starbucks when you can have local coffee like this?! Hubs and I enjoyed the Hawaiian Salted Caramel Latte & Macadamia Nut Latte. To eat we had bagels - one filled with Guava Butter & the other with Strawberry Honey Cream Cheese. Ono!!!

I love Maui Coffee Roasters! Reminds me of the coffee shops I used to go to in college... in a good way. High ceilings lots of people working on lap tops on the wifi, great brew with daily flavored blends, and really delicious bagel sandwiches! The prices are nice and we have a coffee card for a discount which is nice. We buy the big whole bean bags from Costco and it really is some of the best brewed coffee I've had. Coming from Australia, where brewed coffee is non existent, it's nice to find a place that consistently serves a good cup! Can't judge their lattes and caps as have just stuck to the black gold The location is a bit odd but perfect if you're going to town and need a coffee hit or hanger-eliminating sandwich before tackling Costco!

If you're looking for a great coffee, as well as a cool atmosphere, then Maui Coffee Roasters is an excellent choice while in Kahului, HI. While you can get Starbucks anywhere, sometimes when you travel you want to experience something a little more "local" and a reflection of your destination. You will find that here. My mom loves to stop here when she visits; and my brother was happy to take home several pounds of coffee as gifts for friends after his trip to Maui. I usually get the coffee of the day and it never disappoints. There may be a homeless person (or two) hanging around, but that's just part of life here in Kahului; and they are usually just trying to get a cozy spot out of the sun and should be no worry. While the seating can be tight due to the coffee shop's popularity, my friends and I still enjoy pushing together tables and catching up here! You should check it out. I believe there's also a punchcard, so if you plan on making this a regular stop, be sure to pick one up!

Move over Starbucks, because Maui Coffee Roasters is where real Maui locals go to grab coffee! Located near the airport this little local gem offers an assortment of caffeinated drinks, sandwiches and a darn good yogurt parfait. I ordered a lox and bagel sandwich which would have been very satisfying except they ran out of sprouts. My dining partner and I grabbed a table outside and enjoyed a good hour of conversation. Maui Coffee Roasters gets quite a bit of traffic and it's fun to people watch as well. Great spot to grab a bite and spend a few hours working on that novel you've been meaning to write. Minus one star because they ran out of sprouts for my bagel sandwich and I ordered coffee but the cashier forgot to ring it up. Wom wom wom... Be sure to sign up for their loyalty card because for every fifth drink you buy, you get one free! My favorite part is they can just look up your name on their computer register. Cheers to buying local!

I had a friend visiting from Oahu and we met for an early lunch. We decided on Maui coffee roasters---it's one of my favorite places to hang out at in Kahului and I wanted to share it with her. I saw this delicious fruit parfait just sitting all by itself in the window-staring me down. I'm a sucker for parfaits-they're healthy (hey-it has fruit,) they're pretty (so colorful!) and! They're so so Ono. I've never had one from here before so I knew I had to give 'er a whirl. We grabbed a place outside and I excitedly got ready to indulge. I was hoping it was going to be as awesome as I'd hoped. And, I was right. Lots of seeds, fresh fruit and some bomb custard, it was gone before I knew it. But I managed to get a photo first. Seriously. If you want breakfast or lunch-go get yourself some heaven in a cup from MCR. Only flip side is, they have a limited number so.. Get there early! I promise-you won't be disappointed. :)

Very good coffee. Forget the Starbucks when you are in Hawaii. They do have some locations around but the local coffee shops beat them hands down and they have some of the best Hawaiian coffee served in these shops. Located pretty close to airport.

  • Tif-funny T.

This is for their coffee and expressos. Thought I'd give this place a try, getting tired of Starbucks. My expresso wasn't got it was extremely warm which was weird. The same with the coffee. I should have just gone to Starbucks if you ask me.

This taint coffee shop is not just any coffee shop - drinking a cup of joe and eating breakfast is an experience by itself. The moment we walked in, we gaped at some of the unique wall hangings inside, paintings and surf board hung from the ceiling. I noticed that they sell merchandise as well. The key to the bathrooms were also unique; the key was tied to a long utensil! We ordered a Creamy Caffee Latte and a cappuccino. I asked the waiter to add macademia nut flavor to my latte. I love macademia nuts and never miss the opportunity to try either the nuts or the flavor when I visit Hawaii. From the breakfast menu, we selected the Huevos Bagel. Now now now, I am not a big fan of bagels, nevertheless I decided to try the Huevos Bagel. Within a few minutes, a plate of two toasted bagels, topped with pesto sauce, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, eggs and cheese came to our table. The presentation looked fantastic. And so was the taste. The bagels were perfectly toasted, the eggs were flawlessly cooked the cheese was melting on the top. Each bite of the bagel had different flavors rushing inside the mouth. While sitting by the window and enjoying the meal, we noticed a few hens and little ones aimlessly walking near the parking lot. That was a good past time!

Delicious pastries and amazing coffee! Great staff! Recommend this place to all friends.

Pretty good coffee here. I got the white chocolate mocha which was simple yet satisfying. Nice staff, really small area though.

    (4)
  • Darren B.

First off, the espresso from the coffee bar isn't Hawaiian - it's a South American blend. Secondly, they make you use a gross bathroom spoon key to use the locked bathroom. Thirdly, the coffee bar girl was pleasant. However the coffee "expert" gentlemen was not overly helpful, simply reading the labels when asked for suggestions. Overall not blown away.

What a sweet spot! I live on Maui and work from home, so I'm always looking for a place with good coffee and great wifi to take a break from the house. A few days ago I got their Hibuscus Iced Tea - yummy goodness and no sugar added. So refreshing on a hot day. Today I got a latte and it was the perfect temperature, perfect amount of foam and really quick. The place is really comfortable too, wifi is excellent and the people are so nice. Excited they have a frequent customer rewards program. I also picked up some great Maui-made gifts to take to the mainland on a trip next week - coffees and locally-made treats. They also have a huge selection of french presses and Chemex coffee makers - I'll be upgrading soon! Love this place!

  • Edith P.

I love this place! The cold brew with chocolate is awesome! They have an awesome loyalty card and nice staff. This was recommended to us by our kitesurfing instructor when I said I was falling asleep. Totally woke me up!

Pretty good for Maui. Not many good coffee shops on island. The cold nitro coffee is their standout drink.

  • Candace C.

It's ok. Coffee's pretty good but nothing special. Breakfast fare is lackluster. I've been here a few times trying the chicken wrap once, eh, it's fine but you could get the same fare or better from a super market. Today I got the eggs Benedict with ham and my husband tried the Huevos Bagel. The Eggs Benedict came out looking like a plate of soup, it was covered with hollandaise. The yokes were completely hard and the English muffin was super soggy by the time I uncovered it. The Huevos Bagel was fine but weird. It had eggs with cheddar cheese, red onions, jalapeños, and the bagel was smeared with pesto. Just an interesting combination. Overall, not impressed. It's on the way to work so I might stop by for an occasional cup of coffee but only if my regular place is closed.

Get the veggie burger!!! It's amazing. Even if you're a meat lover. Lots of stuff to choose from & great tasting coffee

  • Anisha G.

I like this place. This coffee was good (not amazing) and their mugs look awesome even if they are $26 a piece. I had my regular caffe latte here and it hit the spot. I'll be back here before heading to the airport tomorrow for another cup and perhaps another mug!

  • Tiffany C.

Get the Maui Red Rooster (cold brew, 16 oz.) -- it's delicious and strong. Skip the regular kona coffee as it wasn't as hot or flavorful as expected (you pour it yourself from one of the portable containers). Staff was very nice and patient as they explained the different types of coffee the store served (apologies to the woman behind us in line who looked like she was in a hurry).

    (3)
  • Jenna M.

Kona coffee pour over - 1 word - AMAZING! Very smooth and full of flavour! $6 coffee, not cheap, but I would pay it again! So good!

  • Island G.

Stopped in on Saturday as it was on our way to Costco, the food and beverages were really good although a little pricey. Maybe not a regular stop but definitely a stop when its convenient.

They serve up some great cold brew ice coffees. The Thai high iced coffee is a winner too.

  • Laura R.

If you are in Kahului, check out these guys! Very good coffee and a fun hawaiian atmosphere. If you buy food to eat or drink there they will bring it to you and they offered to warm up my pastry, which totally made the difference in taste. Nice people running the operation.

    (4)
  • tina p.

Good coffee and breakfast sandwiches, but $9/sandwich is pricey and it took forever for the sandwiches. I asked to substitute bread for the bagels, but they came out of bagels anyways... but after twenty minutes of waiting we weren't going to wait any longer to have it fixed.

  • T B.

Finally stopped by to try this place. Ordered a white mocha iced. Wasn't quite my kind of drink. Service was fine. Atmosphere was nice! Maybe I'll go back to try a new drink. I like that they have a punch card type thing.

Not for the coffee enthusiast. With praise as the best coffee on Maui I probably had high hopes. I didn't realize how snobby about coffee I must seem, but this felt like an overpriced tourist trap. Mostly espresso based (AKA Italian or Turkish) coffee if you're into that kind of thing but not particularly authentic for certain types like a cappuccino. Drip is limited to a flavoured and a dark roast only, the dark was better than a Starbucks drip but nothing overly special. Not bad overall, not great. Not sure what the allure of 'flavoured' coffee is, removes the tasty COFFEE flavour, seems like something for people who don't really like coffee. They have a bunch of options here for some strange reason. Perhaps trying to appeal to the broadest number of tourists. What's most disappointing about going to a coffee 'roaster' is not being able to try various different roasts. What's the point of roasting in small batches, if you're selling it by the pound but you can't try anything before you buy? No labels for a roast date is disappointing for any coffee lover. You could buy equipment for pour-over or french press, but they had no such options to try coffee? Am happy to pay for a few small pour overs or press to see what various roasts taste like before buying. If you're serious about coffee, why not let your coffee speak for itself and give people more options to try your various roasts? I bought a fairly expensive light roast, that I hope ends up being better than my expectations. At least they offer some beans with what looks to be a real medium roast and not dark roast only. UPDATE: Got it home, price probably made it seem way worse than it actually was but it sat around significantly longer than most bags of coffee I purchase in Vancouver. I felt a strong need to use it up, more than anything.

The staff was very inviting and provided ample samples. I brought a variety of coffee home for family and friends and prepared them in a couple different ways: aeropress, pourover, syphon and french press. The coffee did not disappoint.

  • Arocel F.

..came by for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised by their great coffee! I ordered iced coffee while my husband ordered their coffee of the day. I also ordered their sesame bagel with cream cheese. We had a great time here. The coffee flavor was excellent. Also as an added bonus, I finally found a coffee mug that is made in USA! I am very keen on buying as many American products as I can, especially little things like clothing or housewares that we take for granted, which sadly, are now made mostly in China. Anyway, I am bringing this mug with me back to California! See attached picture!!

  • Lisa I.

Iced coffee here was DELICIOUS and so necessary after eating a heavy meal across the street at Da Kitchen. Seems like a great place to cruise and hang out for awhile since there's a lot of seating (and air conditioning!).

    (4)
  • Travis H.

Cool little coffee shop a stones throw from the airport and town. Paia about 15 min local drive away. Got Turley sandwich and iced coffee. Good local vibeand place to chill and not hard with a baby.

  • M S.

This place knows coffee. I had the best coffee here in the island (100% Kona Fancy), though it comes with a $7 price tag. There is a moderate wait, but there's some cool stuff to browse through (coffee beans, accessories, etc). They sell the Peaberry beans which apparently is even better. Great place to people-watch while pretending to work on your laptop (free wifi) and sipping your fancy coffee poured from your heat-proof decanter onto your pre-warmed cup. Friendly staff, hip surfy vibe. Only downside is that it could get crowded (I went there around 1 pm), but I imagine this would be great for brunch. Definitely worth a stop in Maui if you're a coffee afficionado.

  • Dwane M.

Here for vacation and found this place on Yelp. I loved their ice coffee so much and selection looked great so I brought the family back the next day. My son definitely loved it too, check out the pics got of him crushing it down there! Lol

  • Jerome S.

Great coffee, very down to earth staff. A nice variety of products to purchase from coffee makers to t-shirts. Bagels, sandwiches, and a variety of snacks are available. Cold brewed coffee is also served here. Super close to the airport, so EVERYONE should stop here!! Will be back ;-)

  • Darrell K.

I like coffee. I dislike Starbucks. In fact, I can't stand them. So when I see a coffee shop other than the rip off over-hyped Starbucks, I go inside. I especially like it if they are not a chain. Such as the Maui Coffee Roasters. Looks like some of their regular customer glue themselves to the chairs giving you less of a chance in finding seats. Staff was friendly and the Kona Coffee was really good.

    (3)
  • Jymme G.

This is my favorite coffee shop thus the 3 stars. I really do love the coffee here. If you're in a hurry tho, don't order anything to eat. The last 2 times I ordered a bagel and both times I swear I waited about 15 minutes! Seriously...how long does it take to toast a bagel??!!

    (3)
  • Sorrell B.

The food was alright, but the servers weren't as friendly as the other coffee places I had been on my trip. Also the floor plan is set up in a strange way...and they need more space.

    (3)
  • Green M.

Great service. I went in and got a self serve coffee of the day. The coffee was lukewarm. I told the barista and she immediately hooked us up with a fresh batch and told us to keep the old cup too, which I made into a delicious iced coffee. Generous service. Super friendly barista. Not to mention nice art work and drink options. We're definitely coming back if I'm in the area again.

    (5)
  • Jenell C.

Maybe it was because I wasn't a local? But the service was lackluster and the coffee was just okay. Slightly above not drinkable for me. I drank about half of my 20 oz. latte. The shots tasted bitter as thought they sat too long before being poured into the milk. Maybe stop by on the off chance I got a bad cup, but mine was bad enough I won't be back while in Maui.

    (2)
  • Jay G.

Great coffee and decent food too. A little crowded at times but still easy to have a quiet conversation when it's full.

    (5)
  • Charmain V.

Awesome spot. Was visiting nearby and looking for some breakfast. Ordered the chocolate cold brew and breakfast bagel sandwich. Both were delicious and the vibes were great as well. Thumbs up!

  • Jamie L.

Love, love, love their blend as well as their KONA! Best on Maui in my opinion. I love coffee, but not a Starbucks fan. Especially for house coffee. We've had several different bagels over the years and they're all fresh and moist. My absolute favorite thing on their lunch menu is the veggie burger - it's delish! They have a variety of wraps too and the bbq chicken tops my list! Relatively smallish place with a few tables outside. So if you're in a party of more than say 4, you may end up waiting for a seat. Or try avoiding the rush/busy times. We went at 2:30 one Saturday and were able to sit without fighting anyone for the table. :) Try it! Try the Kona and take home some Maui Blend! The 100% Kona is to die for.

    (4)
  • Paula M.

I use to love their ultimate veggie burger because it tasted homemade. Ordered one today and it's just a Costco veggie burger! Coffee is good though.

We enjoyed our coffee which was the goal. The atmosphere was pretty cool.. but crowded ..less cozy than other places. The do have some food you can order if you need a morning snack.

    (4)
  • Wendy N.

Good coffee, neat shop. Only downside is that it took 15 minutes to get a plain bagel with cream cheese. Unfortunately, it made me late to work. Definitely will be back for coffee, but not for food.

Very tasty coffee. We found most Maui coffee very weak but this spot delivered. Breakfast sandwiches and baked goods just mediocre. Come here for the coffee.

    (4)
  • Nikki L.

This place is amazing. They make macchiatos right unlike Starbucks. The foam is always frothy and perfect! The quality of good coffee is evident after the first sip. Enjoy...

  • Roxanne Y.

First time here and will be the last time. I had high expectations for this place. The coffee was good but the service was definitely up to par. We waited over 10 minutes for our danish. The worker forgot about it in the back. She wasn't even apologetic about it. It took a total of 30 minutes to get everything else we ordered. Wish our service could of been better.

The best coffee and tea in Maui. Services was good one time, but icey another. Haoles like good java too!

  • Beeh H.

Awesome awesome awesome. Had coffee at a few other establishments and this one trumps them all. The single serve pour over (done by a machine, eh) is a great cup of coffee. But the Cafe au Lait? GREAT. They have some pastries which look pretty decent, I didn't try but they look good. They also sell cold brew concentrate that they make in house. Highly recommend grabbing some coffee here!

  • Jason T.

wonderful coffee! Great staff, very happy with my new coffee company. I recently switched from Kauai Coffee company to these guys... very happy with taste and quality!

  • Hanson J.

Excellent regular and decaf coffee, tasty breakfast choices (over the course of our two visits we had the ham egg & cheese bagel, breakfast wrap, and sausage egg English muffin). They've also got some neat treats to go like matcha green tea almonds. Our favorite place for breakfast and coffee in Kahului! The bathrooms are clean too!

  • Jennifer O.

We had this coffee as our third latte yesterday.....we had a late flight and needed all day energy! Like just about all of the coffee I had on Maui, I thought this latte was just ok. The store is cluttered and has things for sale all over the place. This is not a store I can picture sitting in and relaxing. The coffee itself was bold and the milk was nicely frothed, but it was a little on the acidic side. I wouldn't go out of my way to get coffee here, but I wouldn't avoid it either.

    (3)
  • Staycie K.

Coffee is fantastic, food is great with options for those with specific dietary needs. It's a cute, comfortable coffee shop to relax in and meet friends. For tourists to the island, this is a good gift to take home.

Disappointed with the salmon benedict. It was ok, but not great. Coffee is good. Great environment. Good place to come and relax with a cup of coffee and a book.

Went there on the morning we landed in Maui and had a bagel and hot chocolate. Bagel tasted pretty awesome and will definitely recommend... Will try to go there again during this trip..

Friendly service. espresso shots are pulled WAYYYY lungo...nearly americano volumes (and i didn't order an americano). we're talking about 8 oz for a "double shot" of espresso. i'm used to double-shot ristretti at all the artsy-fartsy third wave coffee places on the continent, so this was a bit of a culture shock. iced toddy was mellow and fairly delicious. i suppose it must be one of the better coffee places on maui, but leaves a bit to be desired.

  • Rashid M.

Nice little coffee shop. Tried their coffee and their bagels. Bagel was so-so. Nothing special. Coffee was good and they served it in a big cup.

We ordered iced mochas which were terrible. I love to support local business; however I won't go back. Will stick to Starbuck's. Do not recommend.

Loved the iced toddy! Stopped here 3 times on our trip, but I would rank Akamai better between the two. MCR has seating available though whereas Akamai is a drive-thru.

  • Janet O.

Cool reasonably priced place. Super busy during lunch hour. SO service can be slow. But if you have your beast at the hotel and come here for a late lunch then you will be better off. Free h-speed Wifi and surprisingly clean rest rooms. I had the mighty leaf tea and Adam had the regular coffee on ice. More bang for your buck if you stop here for some caffeine fix.

    (5)
  • Subrosa I.

The coffee here is excellent! But it's a tad expensive. A small cup of peppermint mocha will set you back $5.

    (4)
  • Brandon M.

While here, my friend and I ordered two coffee, a cookie, and a store made crunch bar. The coffee was outstanding. It took 4-5 minutes to get it, but was worth it none the less. The cookie looked pretty normal, but was quite big - when I had the first site though, it blew me away. Unbelievably moist and sweet. Not over-powering, and not bland. It was a perfect cookie. The crunch bar was different from what I expected. It was definitely not as good as the cookie, but was great none the less.

  • Windy S.

A good place for a cup of coffee before a day full of Hawaiian adventures! The service was quick and friendly, and so my boyfriend & I had a daily run here every morning. Although, the first time we came in for the macaroons that is their profile pic, which is deceiving. There are no macaroons here! Otherwise, a good stop for a good cup of coffee.

  • Alli Q.

Came here twice during my visit to Maui. During our first visit, we ordered the Thai High Iced Coffee - it was AMAZING. So good. There was something sweet but it wasn't overpowering or sugary at all. We loved it. I would have given Maui Coffee Roasters a four or a five if we had the same experience the next time we came but a few days later, we can back and ordered the same thing. It tasted like watery iced coffee - nothing like how it tasted originally. It was so disappointing. I would come here again but be aware that they are not consistent.

  • Geoff G.

The salmon Benedict is a hollandaise delight. Personal prompt service from a very touristy spot near the airport. My latte was good enough, but I didn't stick around long enough to try out the coffee quality in detail. Next when in Maui...

Cute little coffee shop! Lots of indoor seating and two tables outside. The decor inside is also nice to look at. There's actually some local art hanging on the walls available for purchase, which I thought was pretty cool. The bf ordered the Thai High Iced Coffee. He's pretty picky about his coffee but loved it and pretty much inhaled the whole glass. It was sweet but still strong enough for him to get his caffeine fix. I got the Matcha Green Tea Frappe. It wasn't loaded with other sweeteners like most other places. I really enjoyed it. We also shared an Apple Cinnamon Bar which was also very yummy. Overall a nice place to chill and stop to get your caffeine fix and bite to eat in the morning! We would definitely come back again.

Came in here with the sis the other day while waiting for our friend to land at OGG. The place was packed (lunch crowd) so it was a bit hectic. Ordered a soy latte... And first sip... Eh no biggie. Sorry folks but I've been spoiled by Athony's Coffee in Paia. They do have a selection of pastries... Oh and last minute souvenirs!

We ate here three times in five days. It was that good. We tried their veggie burger, veggie bagel deluxe and huevos bagel. The huevos bagel was AWESOME! Egg on top a toasted onion/garlic bagel was amazing! And of course, the coffee. Coffee is in their name and their Kona coffee was excellent. I highly recommend this place if you're in Maui.

Best coffee shop in Maui that I went to. Quality was there, you can taste it in the beans.... too bad they don't have vacuum coffee.

Amazing coffee, incredibly friendly staff, delicious deserts! By far the best local coffee house I have been to on Maui, there's a reason this was voted the "Best Coffee On Maui". I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great cup of coffee/iced coffee and a very relaxed environment.

Had a cup of joe with them and found that it was very good. I went in for a quick business meeting but was pleasantly surprised at the ambiance, food menu and great coffee. I will def go back to check out their breakfast/lunch menu on my next light fare day.

We got a smoothie, iced toddy, deluxe veggie bagel and huevos bagel. The services was great and the food was awesome! Close to the airport, so we will be going back before we head back to California.

Great coffee and tea. Good food as well. I had the deluxe veggie burger. The chips that come with it are pretty lame though, they said kettle chips and i got ruffles. Jordy got eggs benidict with salmon. It was tasty. It didnt come with anything though. You'd think there'd be home fries or something. Right?

It's a local place so I'm not sure how excited they are to see tourists, but as a tourist who went here, I had fine service. Great menu choices, off the beaten path of Starbucks standard fare and really good pastries. I find it hard to believe that Starbucks gets a higher rating because I think the beans here are much better. With that said, maybe some people just like to stick to what they know. There aren't a whole lot of places I have to hit multiple times when I'm on Maui, but this is one of them. Branch out. Expand your horizons. Starbucks will be waiting for you on the mainland when you get home. Maui Coffee Roasters is on the island for you during your trip.

I order Christmas gifts from here. The sales people give good advice and will ship items. You even get a free cup of coffee in a signature to-go cup when you buy a pound of coffee. They offer 100% Hawaiian coffees. Coffee grown on all of the islands including the coffee grown on Maui in Kaanapali. It gets voted best coffee on Maui yearly. I don't know enough to say it is the best but while on Maui why not try a Maui grown coffee? We didn't eat in we got it to go and order yearly for the holidays.

Nice ambience and nice decor...I had the iced mocha with nonfat milk...pretty run of the mill...not sure if they accidentally got coffee grounds into my drink but it definitely wasn't the best iced mocha I'd ever had...I didn't get a chance to try out any of their freshly brewed coffee...my friend got a cappuccino and he seemed pleased with his drink...I wish I had more time to try out other drinks there but sadly I didn't I would definitely want to try them out again the next time I'm in town to get a better gauge on their coffee quality

Really great coffee and fast turn around for beverages. If you're wanting to get food though, bring your own snack while you wait---food service is VERY Slow. Gabrielle was our extremely friendsly barista- she brightened up the whole room with kindness; much appreciated.

Located in an unassuming strip mall in Kahului, Maui Coffee Roasters appears to be quite the locals joint. I love visiting new places and seeing where the locals hang out. I ordered an iced toddy with chocolate, expecting something similar to an iced mocha. Wrong. I guess I should have asked. That puppy was BITTER. No amount of sugar and cream could sweeten it up. Unfortunately, I ended up having to toss it. Totally my fault, though. I should have asked. I appreciate that they cold brew their coffee, as I do the same at home and it makes a difference. The mister and I also ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and an apple crisp. I HIGHLY recommend the apple crisp. It was kind of like eating cold apple pie, but better. Yum! The bagel was good--pretty standard and a little small, but we enjoyed it. If you're in the area and looking for a local coffee house (aka NOT Starbucks), definitely give this place a shot.

I've been brewing this coffee for 6 years now and it has always been my favorite!!!! I first heard of them through the Mike Malloy show, who had Bob Alexander's "SuperBeans.com" as a sponsor. Saddly Bob has gone out of business in 2011, but Maui Coffee roasters still ships to the US and I was lucky enough to check them out on my recent trip to Maui. The coffee here is excellent to say the least! My favorites are the Hawaiian Pea Berry Blend and the other-worldly Maui Moka. The Moka was my favorite and they stopped selling it a few years ago through SuperBeans.com , so I thought they stopped making it. I bought 2 lbs and will buy more as my budget allows. The beans of Moka are surprisingly small, grown at the Ka'anapali (sp?) estate on the western Maui mountains. The stuff is just awesome, I can't rave enough. The store is great, very fun and personable staff, you get a free coffee if you buy a pound and the music on the stereo was great!!! A pleasure to be there finally!

...been here before...same story: Best Coffee and incredibly tasty sandwiches. I had the crab salad sandwich this time...a must do again item! Moderately slow service, but that's just because the place is usually packed during lunch! Great people, great food, and great environment! ...and the prices are really reasonable...considering that you are in Hawaii!

Coffee is really GOOD better than Starbucks...But the lines can get long since there is only one barista..But worth the wait...We went here almost everyday we were in Maui even before our flight home for what else coffee to go... The Caramel Latte was also great with a hint of caramel and the caffeine I needed to stay awake for all our hiking/snorkeling we did on our vacation...

Great food and drinks, high-speed wi-fi and clean restroom. That's all we need when taking a rest from the busy travel schedule in Maui! We tried Crab salad sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, double espresso, mighty leaf tea (free water refill), french macaroon and tiramisu. All of them taste great! We also plan to buy sandwiches here as early breakfast when heading to the Sunrise at Haleakala. The service is great too.

Disappointing that they do not serve Hawaiian coffee at this place. And it was apparent that I was the n-th person to ask that question, and the barista girl was just as annoyed as the last time because she has to answer 'no'. In fact, she answered 'no' and let me know that it is expensive, and that they sell tons of cups of coffee each day, so like ya know... well no I don't know what she's talking about. A lot of places have Kona or other Hawaiian coffee by the cup and it is more per cup, but it still sells. Event hat chain Bad Ass coffee sells it by the cup and they're a chain, not a local roaster. Restrooms were clean at this place. There was very little sitting area relative to the volume of customers that come here. Prices weren't bad.

This is the best coffee in Central Maui, maybe the whole island. I love these guys so much I rated them #1 on my MauiGuidebook.com project - here is what I said: Maui Coffee Roasters has two things you'll rarely find side-by-side in Maui: Reasonably priced, and top-notch quality. Located in the center of Kahului, seriously consider skipping over the many Starbucks locations for something more authentically Maui. Just off of Dairy Road on Hana Highway, while it isn't located in the resort areas, the location is actually hidden in plain sight en route to many popular places, including the Kahului airport, Haleakala, the Road to Hana and Iao Valley. Maui Coffee Roasters is our pick for #1 in Central Maui. The staff is friendly, and they're focused on helping you choose from a diverse choice of Hawaiian coffee selections - and they'll even grind a batch just right for your tiny hotel coffee maker if you ask. They have coffees from all around the world, but save the familiar Moka Java for the Seattle trip, and go with Hawaiian coffee when you're here. You'll have the option to sample the international coffees in every coffee house in every city, but you'll rarely have the opportunity to sample many of these local coffees elsewhere. (You can thank me later by sending me a gift box of your favorite Hawaiian beans!) About the size of a Starbucks, even though Maui Coffee Roasters finds themselves on the "Best Of Maui" list year after year, this is actually still the only Maui Coffee Roasters location. Besides coffee, MCR also has breakfast, wraps, salads and sandwiches that are surprisingly superior to your typical coffee shop fare. Maui Coffee Roasters also offers coffee and gifts to carry on the plane or ship. And they've got coffee packaged as gifts starting at five bucks. So, with that said, let me tell you a little bonus hint that has saved my okole more than once: if you buy Hawaiian coffee as gifts for your friends and coworkers, and then you totally space on your boss or mother-in-law, with a few clicks on the MCR website your can have a selection of coffee coming their way via second-day air. Combine that tip with a little white lie like "they had to roast a batch just for you and so I arranged to have them ship it" and you're golden! (Sheez...I really hope a certain someone doesn't read this!) Wireless Internet, ambiance and book reading are a few other reasons folks come to a coffee shop, and they've done all of these right as well. Besides the obligitory wireless Internet, the place is decked out in colorful art and has abundant natural lighting. Honestly, the only thing wrong with the place is it is in a strip mall in Kahului - I tried to stuff the suggestion box with "Dude, set up on the beach in a in a tiki-bar motif" notes, but they're still hidden in plain sight behind a regular-old Kahului storefront.

Not all that. I was expecting better with less of a food menu and more focus on the coffee. Coffee from the carafe was way too hot to drink like it had been reheated after brewing. Also would be nice if they offered another regional brew instead of a flavored coffee. Yuk!

Service was incredibly horrible and the food was nothing special. Spent 9days in Maui and visited only local restaurants. People were nice every place except for here-- no eye contact, no thanks, no hi (when we were clearly trying to be friendly toward them). The only reason for 2 stars is because the guy who brought out our food was friendly.

stick with the coffee, pass on the carbs... we popped in for a quick snack before we toured the island. this store is easy to find and close to the airport. they have a decent menu of coffee products and light fare with merchandise to boot. despite the crappy bagels, the store is quite nice. i LUH-HUV iced coffee, so the iced toddy was perfect for me. i was sleep deprived, so i didn't retain the information about the special process to make the toddy. all i know, is that it was literally the BEST ICED COFFEE that i have had to date! a solid roast, rich yet clean in flavor. DELISH! my friend ordered a bagel with vegetable cream cheese. it took a solid 15 minutes for the toasted bagel with schmear. i was joking around and said that the bagels were sitting in tubs. my friend thought that they were actually boiling the bagels on premises...i had to point out the plastic containers that they were housed in whilst sitting int the kitchen. either way you cut it, the wait was RIDICULOUS! [there was only one other table that ordered bagels.] and then, when it was served, the vegetable dip was technically a pesto mixed in with cream cheese. although it was tasty, it was akin to false advertising! whatever, you can almost never go wrong with pesto. the service was great! friendly, nice and informative personnel so i'll give them high-fives on that end! so again, coffee good, bagels bad!

What a great place. Having an independently owned coffee shop to go to is awesome. The coffee selection is great, friendly staff, good food and very busy every time I've been there.

$8 for a bagel with ham ang egg...???!!! Seriously? And we are not talking organic ham and organic cheese but random crap.. Value is $3.. And last time I was here they didnt have such grossly stupid pricing.. And the coffee? Nothing to write home about -still reeling over the sandwich and the crappy muffin- what happened to the tasty home made vibe... Now it's " let's pretend it's airport pricing".. Opt for Anthony's in paia or Down to Earth.. Even Starbucks serves an egg white turkey bacon option for $4 that tastes more gourmet... Thumbs down to a place I used to love

I've visited this little cafe on two separate trips to Maui. Both trips left a horrible taste in my mouth...and not because of the coffee. The espresso drinks here are good. However, I'm not sure its worth the lack of customer service provided by the employees. The 2 stars are for good tasting coffee drinks. "the 09/2009 visit" My boyfriend had read about them on the web somewhere. We decided to be adventurous and stopped in mid-morning (around 10am) before heading to Krispy Kreme. I'm pretty much set in my ways and order the same drink no matter where I am: an iced triple vanilla soy latte. My boyfriend however, likes to experiment and was amazed by the listing on the wall behind the counter. So, I've already ordered my usual and boyfriend orders an iced double caramel macchiato. The girl remarks, "It's not like Starbucks, you know." to which boyfriend replies, "Ok, thanks?" We pay, she makes the drinks, and without a smile or a "thank you", she calls our drinks. We start heading out but not before we hear the same girl give the customer after us the warmest welcome. Nothing feels more amazing than have it be obviously shown to you that you were not welcome. "the most recent visit" We recently went to Maui again. We flew in at 6:00am and after a whole day of driving, we needed some caffeine. We reluctantly agreed to stop in again, hoping service has improved. We walk in an hour before closing and see two workers. One girl was helping a couple who was visiting from the mainland., the other looked quite bored, just leaning on the counter. The busy girl was really nice and very helpful sounding. so I stalled around, hoping she would help us when she was free. No chance. :( After about 5-10 minutes we decided to just order from the girl who wasn't doing anything. (I know, its horrible to judge...but with the previous experience. I just wanted someone nice!) Without a smile she took our order. This time I ordered my drink (with almond milk instead of soy) and boyfriend ordered a iced white chocolate mocha. Then she turned around to the machine and grabbed two cups of ice. She then poured the white chocolate over the ice. I thought to myself, "wait a minute, that's not right" I was afraid to keep watching. Was she going to pour hot espresso over ice??? She sure did. Once again, no smile nor a "thank you". I felt stupid for tipping her $2. Oh how I dreamed of sticking my hand back in the jar and pulling those precious dollar bills out of there. You know, the way daydreaming happens in the movies. But my morals took over and we left. we sipped our drinks on the way to our rental car....I got a straw full of watery espresso and my boyfriend got some chunks of white chocolate. The horrible customer service monster won again.

This place offers more than just coffee. I've enjoyed their soups, salads, sandwiches, and quiche for lunch. They've got some seats inside and outside. Nice spot and convenient to my work.

Good and friendly service with a smile! Unfortunately, this is a coffee house in Maui, and I was thoroughly disappointed that they did not brew local Hawaiian coffee. They told me that it was too expensive to brew. Okay... At least french press one at a customers request. They have all that local coffee on display for sale, and since this is tourist town, there isn't any excuse for not serving it.

I took a whiff of their coconut coffee and had to take a bag home to remember my vacation in Maui. wonderful place, with lots of reasonably priced coffees, mostly local Maui coffee beans with several Kona varieties as well. They even had a hula pie flavored coffee! The coffee beans are good for gifts too.

We've been buying espresso and coffee beans at Maui Coffee Roasting for at least a decade (can't remember when we started going there). We just returned from the islands and had a wonderful experience at the store. Stacie's (sp?) ohana was a great reflection of the store ownership and management.

I am a Starbuck's fan, but had to try this coffee shop while on vacation. I ordereed the Sugar Free Vanilla Latte and it was fantastic! It's also cheaper than my Starbuck's, so it deserves 5 stars. loved it.

It seems like I eat here on a weekly basis. I love their outdoor seating - where you can enjoy the fresh Maui trade winds. Friendly staff. My faves - the mango iced tea and tuna caper sandwiches. Comes with a cute little mixed green salad with awesome vinegarette dressing. Yum!

Great coffee. I'm a fan of their coffee. But I had to knock it down a star because their baristas are pretty grumpy. I've been there several times and every single time they've been rude, looked at us with disdain if we had questions, and one lady even rolled her eyes at me when I asked if they put mayo in their sandwiches. But like I said, I am a fan of their coffee. It's a nice, robust flavor that makes me sigh with satisfaction with every sip. That's the only reason I return to this place and tolerate the annoyed looks from the baristas.

On our way to the airport back to the mainland, we stopped here for breakfast. We were trying not to have to go to Starbucks since we can get that everywhere...It's in a stripmall and is about the same size as a Starbucks, but had higher ceilings and a more personalized decor. For instance, a blown-up Godzilla with a Barbie-ish doll dangled from the ceiling. They also sell Hawaiian matted prints and funny greeting cards. The menu is pleasantly extensive for a coffeeshop. They had bagel sandwiches, eggs benedict, bagels, pastries, all the typical coffee drinks, teas...etc. What I liked particularly was how when I ordered my bagel breakfast sandwich, I could even choose what kind of bagel I wanted. And it was served split on the plate and was actually made there and cooked there. Not shipped in! My cafe mocha was delish - made with Ghiradelli chocolate, one of my fave places in CA. Cool vibe. Would go here again, especially if I needed to get something before or after being at the airport on Maui.

I love the atmosphere here and I love the coffee, but I can't stand going because of the workers. Maybe if you pay them, they will smile! If the owner is reading this, you should really have a talk with your workers.

Maui Coffee Roasters, awesome. Not only are the workers friendly but they remember you! I would get coffee from this place over Starbucks any day. Their coffee is good and so is their food. I swear, I haven't eaten anything on that menu that I hated. If you don't want to take out you're more than welcome to eat there and they have super cute plates too. If you don't want to sit in and eat you can sit outside and enjoy the sun.

I should preface this review with the fact that my husband and I roast our own coffee. After tasting our hotel coffee and recoiling in horror, we jumped in our rental car and off we went, to a coffee roaster that Yelp pointed us too. Explaining our predicament, we were able to purchase two pounds of freshly roasted coffee, ground just right for our teeny hotel coffee maker. We got two complimentary cups of delicious fresh brew, and lived out the rest of our trip in style - satisfying our caffeine cravings with sinfully delicious coffee that rivals our own. Yum!

5/13/08: Co-worker and I stopped by to grab some caffeine before a series of meetings at the county administrative offices. I had high expectations since it looked like a reputable scene and sold beans from local growers (mostly kona coffee which is too light for me). Anyways, I was curious to see what skills the barista had (they had an impressive espresso machine and two grinders, both commercial grades). I ordered a double shot latte, it was very disappointing. The shots were pulled too fast and quite watery (either the tamp or grind setting wasn't up to par), then the milk was bubbled to death - milk tasted overdone (no thermometer while frothing), no micro foam at all.

Best Americano on the island! Fresh, quality food prepared by loving hands. A real local vibe that beats the hell out of Charbucks. An eclectic mix of art on the walls, and hanging from the ceiling. A good place for gifts; cool mugs, french presses, t-shirts with pretty logo, and of course the FABULOUS chocolate covered cherries! The serve yourself coffee bar is convenient if you are short on time. All in all a great LOCAL company.
