Well first off they pretty much had me with Kandi with a "K".... Second we realized it's pretty much the last stop for food if heading up the saddle road from our house.... Kandi's is a tiny old-school plate lunch shop with a few picnic tables in front of the counter, where we had DELICIOUS and INEXPENSIVE breakfasts. Seriously, the Breakfast Bowl has fried potatoes, 1 egg, 1 strip bacon, gravy for ... $2.75 ! And it was yummy! We're fans ! They're always super friendly and the food is fast and hot and inexpensive. Corn bread side order is surprisingly delicious. We almost fought over it and then realized we could just order another one. Which we did. (Public bathroom however requires key, which is my pet peeve, I hate that the counter clerk is touching the key which people have to take in and out of bathroom, and then clerk is going back to work with food. I like Cafe 100's keypunch combo lock on bathroom better.)

Kandi's is the taste of my childhood! Having attended Waiakeawaena Elementary School, the Kandi's bento was always the coveted lunch for excursions. Don't forget the passion orange juice wrapped in foil! I'm also a sucker for the breakfast burger (scrambled egg, ham, cheese), though I remember it being under a dollar, and now it's $2.

What can I say... the Loco Moco's taste the same as I remember... ONO. The Loco Moco is not an intricate dish to make, the gravy makes or breaks it. Can't really comment on any other dishes here, since the Loco Moco is all I ever ordered from this place. Ever. This past trip wasn't anything to try and derive from that either. Maybe next time. Maybe.

$4.75 for a roast pork mini plate. Generous scoop of rice and mac salad and didn't need a knife for the pork. Ambiance isn't much unless you like staring at street traffic or Pizza Hut across the street.

LOL what did I get when I came here? French toast =D I stopped by because I was in the area and genius me only had milk in my fridge for breakfast but no cereal. for $4.11 I had no thrills French toast. The cashier was a nice gal and let me pay only $4.11 because I had no spare change. Very nice workers, fairy large menu (not the most vegetarian friendly though but most places in HI aren't exactly good for non meat eaters), lots of parking and seating, and a local atmosphere. Cash only. I will gladly up the review once I get blown away by something.

5/24/08: Picked up breakfast on our way out to our overnight fishing trip. Middle of the road hawaiian drive-in take out. You'll find everything from moco-loco to saimen to other local specialties here. Good crowd usually hanging outside eating, quite popular with anyone looking to add weight.
