The Korean Chicken is Ono. My keiki loved it. We also like the sandwiches. This is our stand by place to pick up sandwiches. I was surprised to see so many low reviews.

I called in and spoke with a manager who was suppose to refund my money. I never got a call back or a refund. This company has lost all respect in my book. I am out $23 dollars .....never again.

I remember when Loco-Moco's here only cost $1.50, Now they are $4 for the small size! I guess times have changed and Freddy's is now under new management (aka Blanes Drive In) but the food is pretty much the same as always and at a decent price. Its your standard local plate lunch fare but I prefer freddy's over L&L and such. I like getting the sauteed salmon special or a mahi loco. Tell em go easy on the gravy unless you like to drink the stuff!

Terrible: 1. Servers did not refill our drinks until we were done with our food. We had to ask for refills. 2. Servers did not give the side dishes even after she asked mac salad or toss salad. 3. Servers were no where to be found the entire time we were dining there. 4. We walked in with 15+ people but 4 per table. We asked to seperate bills for each table and was charged for each table a 18% gratuity. "Ridiculous" considering each table had their own bill. 5. One of the bills were calculated wrong. 6. Server did not know how to give back change and tried to take an extra tip from the change. 7. Portions for a regular plate is small. 8. Food was either bland, too salty or just too dry and overcooked. I would rate it with no stars but I'll give them 1 star for trying.

We stopped here to pick up lunch to take to the beach. This place is super cheap! Unfortunately, it's not very good. I had a turkey sandwich, which consisted of super over-processed lunch meat. Most of the people i was with didn't like theirs very much either. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Plenty of parking, plenty of seating. Lunch specials ozen style comes with Koko, miso soup and 2 shrimps! Finish it off with the pistachio square for a ono-licious and super affordable meal.

Good food and a good price. Large menu with many options. Mostly a local lunch plate place.

Not very good food. Had the loco moco and the gravy and hamburger wasn't very tasty. Someone with us had a salad and it was a large bowl of lettuce with probably 3 oz of chicken. Not very exciting. I wasn't a huge fan but it was edible and if there wasn't any other options to eat Freddy's would be ok. I would try to eat elsewhere tho.

Loco mocho was cold. The GF enjoyed her food. She had corn beef, eggs and french toast. The french toast was really good. My loco was good but was barely warm. Food was very affordable though.

It's been over 8 years since I had a meal here. Came here while in high school! My friends (mostly boys) and I came here weekly for their loco moco! The price was reasonable and the serving was on the generous size. The gravy was ono too! After high school, I never bothered to come and dine here. Lots of seating... and a big parking lot thats free to park. Bathrooms and complimentary water! Casual indoor dining. Right in the heart of Hilo. Local kine grinds and in the late 90s/ early 2000... prices were reasonable. Don't know about now. This is average local plate lunches... but maybe now... it may have gotten better? idk and I never plan on coming back here! Freddy's will forever only be a high school memory!

We had barely landed in Hilo when the BFs fam and I headed over to Freddy's for breakfast. For $3.25 we had the breakfast special of Portugese sausage, eggs over easy, and two scoops of rice. Yum! You just can't beat that. We also tried the Teriyaki Burger which was WAY delish. Simple, tasty patty....no frills just good :)

We have such few restaurants in Hilo that it is so sad when, of the few that do exist, there are ones that just don't deliver in food quality or customer service. We had very few expectations of the food but the customer service by the one waitress working last week was abysmal. We asked about their dinner specials and were told, "the items were listed on the board as you walked in". It was like how dare we ask her to recommend the specials that day. There were only two of us eating in a restaurant almost completely empty but she could barely interact with us or look us in the eye. She obviously did not want to be there. The food came quickly but everything was fried to the point that there was more batter than meat or fish on the entrees. Lesson learned...avoid in the future.

Was ok, edible, but definitely not the greatest. Hard to find something healthy on the menu, everything is fried.

I had to give one star because it would let me give ZERO stars! Ordered the mix plate (hamburger steak ANC chicken katsu). Portion was minimal compared to other restaurants but it didn't bother me too much. What freaked me out and set me off was that my chicken was raw! I'm sick to my stomach. I went back and got my money back. Food poisoning is not something to play with so I'm not giving then another chance to mess me up. Never going back again to eat there. (Only for their slush floats! That's the bomb). Never again for food.

Love the convenient location and the local food, reasonably priced. However when customers can hear the chefs from the front it might be a good idea to keep down the vulgar language. Thankfully I didn't have my kid with me.

I used to love eating here then haven't gone in years .... Recently went back and the place has totally gone down hill the food is ok but the place is disgusting I didn't even want to use their bathroom it smelt horrible looked horrible like it haven't had cleaned in months .... And the dining area looked as if it haven't been vacuumed in weeks so I could just imagine when was the last time their kitchen was clean UGH!!!! Don't go there so unsanitary!!

Nothing special but I've only had the Teri beef/chicken katsu combo plate. Prices seem cheaper compared to plate lunch places on Oahu. I like that they have a keiki bento - my daughter and neice enjoyed them! Hubby and father in law had the loco moco and hubby said, "It was alright - nothing special". Not some place I'd be dying to eat at again, but I guess if you need a quick lunch on the go, it'll work for ya'.

Figured this was a good place to try while I was in Hilo...Yipes!! I ordered a hamburger steak plate and my co worker ordered a mini hamburger steak plate. I opened my Styrofoam container to see what appeared to be a child size (If that) meal.Yipes!! really for $8.00 The portions even made Gyppies (Zippys) look generous lol. My Co workers mini was just depressing. He showed me how they actually cut a regular (be it very small ) hamburger patty blatantly in half... Hmmm so if you are in the mood to spend 7 or $8 dollars and get even less than what Gyppies will give you then this is the place to go. =P

2 stars "meh, I've experienced better" as the Yelp star rating system describes. You walk in to an old-style lunch counter. To the right there's an indoor casual table area which I never went into. We went to the left to the "fine dining" area. The same menu items might be more expensive in the fine dining area, "because it's fine dining" as the waitress explained to me later.... One friend had the "small" egg salad sandwich and fries for $5. This was the highlight of our "fine dining" experience at Freddies. I had the "regular" pastrami sandwich with green salad instead of fries, about $8. The only difference between his "small" sandwich and mine, is that mine was piled high with lettuce, sprouts, and other produce. Plain cold sandwich bread. To me this was not a good pastrami sandwich... it had good fresh ingredients, nothing wrong with it, but I was imagining a grilled sandwich oozing with cheese and sauce. I wouldn't order it again. The green salad was good. Another friend had the fried shrimp plate. He didn't like it, and he missed the fine print in the menu that informs you it will be several $$ more expensive than the printed menu price, if you order it during certain hours. This was confusing to him when the bill came, and contributed to a feeling of ill-will at checkout time. It's obviously an issue the waitresses have to deal with regularly, because she was a little defensive about it. They should just do a lunch menu and a dinner menu, or print both prices. The reality is, people scan a menu to find something they like, check the price, and may not read the whole copy that's on that page to realize they have to add $2 to the printed price, if it's dinner time. Fourth friend left most of his fried fish dinner on the plate. I didn't find out why, since at that point we were trying to pay and get out of there. I'm in no rush to go back, but on the plus side, it was basically OK and I didn't get sick.

Wait time wasn't too terrible. We've been seated faster. The restaurant part of Freddy's was empty. I don't think I've ever seen more than 2 booths being occupied at once. Our food didn't take too longer to come out of the kitchen. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib or roast (I'm writing this review awhile after we actually ate there), either way it looked OK. I had ordered the grilled mahi sourdough sandwich with fries. Freddy's does some good sandwiches. Its more of a comfort food type of place. There's the restaurant side and the take out side. The whole place is also connected to the mini mart next door. Prices are decent. Nice part is there aren't too many people around so you can have a more intimate atmosphere.

Always reliable for an inexpensive good meal. The mini portions (average $7.95) are adequate for all but the most hearty appetites. If you're on the run, go to the take out section of the restaurant. Otherwise relax in the comfortable dining room. Good place for an inexpensive breakfast. Check out the Japanese artwork adorning the walls. The Japanese mini ozen consists of miso soup, rice, choice of 2 entrees (teri beef, 2 pieces of fried shrimp, chicken), salad and tsukemono.

Took my family for an outing to Hilo. Stopped by and had 3 entrees with japanese ozen style. Nice presentation. Staff was attentive. Service was quick. They need to clean the ceiling.
