Yum! If you're downtown and the sushi craving hits don't hesitate to check out this place. Sushi is made to order with brown rice, with all the fixings that's sure to satisfy you. Try it with their spicy sauce!

Out of this world fresh sushi! Kids asked for shave ice while at the Hilo Farmers Market, so we headed into this unassuming food court after vendors told us this was the only place open nearby. The shave ice was good, but then my daughter spotted sushi (with brown rice) and we hesitantly gave it a try as it didn't look like much (served in plastic containers with the splintery chopsticks you have to split apart like at the grocery store). We were blown away by the fresh ahi flavor--it was among the best sushi I've tried and made me think of Jiro Dreams of Sushi, the documentary on Netflix where so much emphasis is placed on the sous-sushi-chefs choosing from the catch of the day. It really makes a difference!

This is definitely my guilt free sushi stop in Hilo. I do not feel guilty about the price, eating healthy, or the quality. Every time I come here, I can fill up on sushi for cheap which is just awesome. The maki rolls are only $5 a piece and the hand rolls are just $2.50. Compared with most other sushi places, those are prices that my wallet can handle. When I do fill up, I don't have to worry about breaking my diet. While we know that eating fish is good for you, sensei steps up the healthy factor by making all his sushi with brown rice. The rice is soft like regular sushi rice, which is great because the fish also melts in your mouth. At the end of the day when the money is spent and the fish is eaten, I believe is the most important is that the quality of the fish. It is a good thing that fish is pretty darn good and even after having eaten there a dozen times, I have never had a stomach problem. For me that was always my #1 concern about coming to a sushi lunch counter. I know I get uneasy when I think about how the fish is being prepared and whether all sanitary conditions are met. I have been here a dozen times since I discovered it, and have never had a problem so I think the quality speaks for itself. I cannot get enough of this little place. If you are trying to find it, this is just a little sushi counter situated between another kitchen and a thai counter. It is often serviced by one person, so just be prepared to wait about 10-15 minutes after you order if you are there during a lunch time rush. The menu is limited, and most of the sushis are various combinations of Ahi, Salmon, or Shrimp. If sushi is just not for you, they also serve soba and homemade ube cheesecake. Pro-Tip: Try the grilled salmon maki from the secret menu. Pro-Tip #2: Cash Only Pro-Tip #3: Tip the good man

I think Dragon Kitchen ruined me for sushi. I've never had such healthy, fresh tasting sushi in my life. Maybe I haven't found the right place on Oahu, but this eatery blew my mind and tastebuds away. I ordered a simple shrimp california roll with extra spicy good stuff on top. The wait was kind of long but dude, totally worth it!!!! They use brown rice for their sushi and I like it!! Go here for a light a lunch.

7 days eating local and the best we have had. The grilled salmon avocado roll with teriyaki and mayo was the best. Awesome brown rice, incredibly tender.

One of my favorite places to eat downtown! I always crave his yummy sushi and soba salad... Fast, fresh, and quality service/food is above and beyond. I highly recommend especially because I love brown rice over white and that just makes me happy!!! Mahalo!

Spicy Ahi and Ahi Avocado for less than $12 total: delicious and reasonably priced. This is not your typical Trader Joe's cold, hard, bland brown rice sushi. Definitely go here. And if you're on the mainland, get on the 405, take the 105 to the 1, go to LAX, get on a plane for Hilo and go to Dragon Kitchen, where you belong!

Went here based on positive reviews, and ordered the salmon poke bowl. However, soon afterwards was very gassy and had diarrhea that lasted for over a day. So bottom line don't go here.

The sushi is excellent. Brown rice is delicious. Best deal in town for lunch. Best sushi outside of Japan so far. Watching him make it fresh in front of your eyes is an art performance in itself.

Amazing! Hitoshi is the sushi master. He makes the awesome simple sushi using brown rice and its just so yummy and healthy. The soba salad is so good too. The sesame dressing makes it very japanese summer style soba. I love it. The sushi is around $4 and the soba salad is $7. It's right by the farmers market so before hitting the market!

Pretty good food served with a smile! Prices are reasonable and he has specials. Love the brown rice instead of white rice in the sushi. Hidden in the back of a line of vendors next to the Farmers' Market, the sign is visible from Bayfront.

Very cheap sushi for amazing quality and great taste! Hiroshi, the head chef, is super nice and friendly and even though he's sometimes the only one working there, he crafts your order in a timely matter. If you think brown rice is a bit strange, don't worry you can hardly taste the difference and it's healthier too!
