There nori chicken is a must try! flavorful and not oily. Also there spam musubi, spring rolls and there occasional fried chicken dipped in korean sauce. yummy!

Asami's Kitchen is another okazuya joint that I've managed to check out recently. It's a small hole in the wall which opens Monday to Saturday from 6 am to 1 pm. They accept credit cards and cash. We got there around 8ish and it was good that it wasn't busy. We got Korean chicken, Musubis, Nori Chicken, Potato croquettes, fish cake, shoyu hot dog, and shrimp tempura all for under $20! That's usually around the same amount of money we spend when we go to these okazuyas and we eat it all through out the day. The Korean chicken was good! Flavor profile was off the wall, kinda tasted like my Korean chicken....hmmmmm. Since it was boneless, it was a little overcooked to my standards. Nori Chicken was alright, Hiro's Place has the best. Everything else was good too, I mean if it wasn't there's no way I wouldn't have been shoveling it down...you know what I'm sayin'?! Other than that Asami's is a good place. Customer service is nice and friendly. The selection of food is small but they put out delicious items. If you're ever in the area check them out, they won't bite....

Ended up coming here because my go to bento places were closed on Mondays (Kawamotos & Hilo Lunch Shop). I was pleasantly surprised. It was tasty and decently priced. I went before 10 am and they were already out of nori chicken. I cleaned out their musubis and almost all of the hash...so if you are going to go here, you HAVE to go really early! I think at the end of the day I still prefer Hilo Lunch Shop...but I have not tried the nori chicken at Asamis yet. However, their fried chicken is REALLY GOOD!

No prices or menu posted but food was good. Seems like you could get better prices on okazuya elsewhere (kawamotos) but this place is less crowded especially for breakfast rush hours.

Little hole in the wall but great food! Stopped in today for a quick bite. Had nori chicken, hamburger steak n musubi. ONO!!!! In my opinion, they have better nori chicken than the other popular bento shops in Hilo. Customer service was good too! Go early for good selection.

Although I'm more of a Hilo Lunch Shop kinda girl, when its closed, I drive straight to Asami's. Even though I'm always buying just for me, I always get a box full of yummy goodies which include nori chicken, spam musubi, corn beef hash cakes, the breaded shrimp, a few rice balls, and a few others. I love that Asami's is so close to the Farmers Market, so I grab breakfast here on Saturday morning then head to the Market.

Asami's Kitchen makes the best lau lau in town, with soft leaves surrounding a perfectly proportioned pork/fat chunk. These are available on Thursday only. Tuesday's special, stuffed chicken, is unusual and tasty. A thigh is stuffed with eggplant, shrimp, and imitation crab, then roasted until brown and juicy. A favorite daily special is their boneless crispy fried chicken, with maximum skin surface!
