We ended up here after a long journey up the Road to Hana. There are only 2 places to eat after 4 pm. We had the chicken wings and salsa with chips. Appetizers were over priced. They were yummy. We came back for Breakfast the next morning and we loved the breakfast. It was delicious and great customer service once again but the best part is the view while you are eating it's so peaceful. We will definitely be coming back here when we visit again.

You guys totally missed the mark on the food :( Service - excellent View - stunning Presentation of the food - lovely Food: really really not well done. If the manager reads this please take heed of what I'm saying. Make your food LOCAL. EMBRACE HAWAII AND HAWAIIAN CUISINE MORE. The chicken in the chicken dish was very tasty, but the tomatoes were not fresh and the asparagus was very woody because asparagus was shipped and likely the tomatoes were too. And the fish. if you get fish, make sure it was caught that morning locally, or better yet, preserve it a bit better. the ahi was too salty and had a fishy aftertaste. The loco moco was good with the dirty rice and the sauce on the side, but the fish again tasted like it was old or previously frozen. If we're going to pay that much for a place that considers itself to be a luxury resort (and it is) then your food should be on point as well. You guys are renovating your garden suites, so why don't you renovate your menu? You say you are one of the places that preserves the old Hana and Hawaii spirit, then embrace that and make high-end versions of poi, steamed fish in banana leaves, utilization of the local ingredients with pineapple, guava, passion-fruit, tarot, and bread fruit. I promise this will be more cost effective, tasty, and will attract more clientele, because after one meal I said, "no way are we going back again" Sorry guys, but you gotta be on point and step it up if you call yourselves a luxury resort.

Way way too expensive. Just go to Hana ranch down the road. We went for breakfast after camping and I just can't stress how shocking the prices are no matter how good the food may be. I don't ever want to pay $18 for a 3 egg omelet with only 3 mix ins (btw it was an additional $3 per vegetable after that)

We stayed at the Travaasa Hana for 10 days and dined here a couple of times during our stay. Here's some highlights: - It's the only restaurant open late (after dark) in Hana. If you want to eat after dark, you won't have any other choices. We dined here on our first night and showed up 10 minutes before they closed at 9 pm...they were very happy to see us and serve us. - They offer live Hawaiian music on some nights, check the schedule if you're interested in that. We went a couple of times just to listen to the music. The musicians are locals from Hana and are really cool and fun. If you're interested in learning the history, etc about the music and local area, they will be more than happy to share. - The food is pretty good here. We dined for dinner a couple of times and I had breakfast one morning. - The patio faces the sunrise, so if you get there around that time it's an amazing sight to see. Also, in Hana, it rains every morning....and it's cool to have breakfast while watching the morning rain/sunrise...I wish I could describe how awesome it really is. You'll just have to try it for yourself. Here's a quick photo I snapped one morning: yelp.com/biz_photos/kaui… - The employees are super cool and always have a smile. You really feel like you're on vacay when you're here. We can't wait until we return to Hana. Will definitely come back here when we do. Return Factor - 90%

Stopped here for lunch while making the loop around the island. Great local ingredients, such as the on site avocados, but unfortunately even as the best instruments do not follow through to a perfect concert the local ingredients did not come together in any amazing style. I was certainly satisfied with lunch and the grounds themselves are a relaxing part of the journey around the island. Just do not expect the food to be the reason for trekking back into Hana on another adventure.

This is our second time here in a few years, we remember it being so much better last time we were here. GREAT ambiance, friendly staff are about all we could say. The food is WAAAAAY overpriced, maybe if it was half the price would be doable. sashimi was good - but it's just cut fish (can't really mess that up), New York strip was dry and semi-rubbery (ordered medium rare), side Hana Salad good but not noteworthy at that price, and steak tataki tasted and almost had the consistency of beef jerky - which we like, but not at a restaurant. maybe the highlight is the desert, chiffon coconut cake and our drinks. We're staying here but we don't want to eat here by choice!

This is one of the only restaurants in Hana and after reading all of the reviews I was very skeptical. We really enjoyed our dinner here! Even though prices were close to highway robbery, the food and drinks were both fantastic. I had a great lychee martini and my husband had a blushing dragon (menu indicated lots of ginger, it was actually fairly mild) both were good! For dinner he had the tenderloin, it was very good. I had the mahi mahi with the preparation listed for the ahi and that was fantastic (one of the best pieces of fish I've had here so far). Was worth the price, even though it was high!!

Spent two nights at Travaasa and had some great dining experiences. Food was pricey but at the same time so was the whole stay (totally worth it). Staff was SO very friendly. Service was slower than your typical restaurant. But if you are in a hurry, why are you in Hana?? Relax enjoy a nice meal with the extremely friendly wait staff. You are not going to find a sommelier here. They might not scrap the crumbs off the table. And if that's a necessity for you I'd highly recommend staying in Wailea and dining at all the Vegas style resort.

From some of the reviews of this restaurant, my expectations were pretty low. But considering this is pretty much the only place open for breakfast in Hana, we had almost no choice. Overall, the good was a good four stars. My French toast was pretty good, that is, if you drenched it with the delicious coconut syrup. Otherwise, it was fine, but lacking in taste. There were a few problems that made this breakfast less of a good experience. My sister had tried to order off of the kids menu, given that she wasn't hungry enough for a whole entrée, but was denied this option because she was a few years older than the maximum age. I have never ever been to a restaurant that didn't let a teenager order off of the kids menu. Also, the waiter seemed to be avoiding us. It took her longer than it should've to come to our table to get our orders. As there weren't enough bad things to make this a three or less star review, my family's reactions to their meals didn't seem too great. I guess I lucked out when I ordered the not so flavorful French toast. It was probably the best thing on the menu. Let's just say I won't be rushing back to this restaurant, and I'll be avoiding this hotel. Not a very great Hawaiian experience.

There aren't a lot of dining options in Hana at dinner time. In fact, there are only two meaningful choices: you can eat at Travaasa or you can eat at the Hana Ranch Restaurant, which is actually run by the same people who run the hotel restaurant. Since the Hana Ranch Restaurant serves mostly tasteless food in a joyless atmosphere with high prices, you might as well stick with the hotel restaurant. Once you've settled on eating at the hotel, you'll have to choose between the restaurant's dining room or lounge, both of which pretty much serve the same food at the same price. You can see my tips for the lounge on the bar's separate Yelp listing, but the quick summary is to go with the lounge. The food is perfectly fine -- certainly better than its reputation, but there is plenty of room for improvement. The fish is always good, and since the cows are mooing across the street, the beef dishes tend to be good choices too. Breakfast and lunch are usually better than dinner, where they shoot for the stars with dishes that are frankly out of their reach. The breakfast and lunch menus better suit their abilities and the environment. Ideally, they will come to the same conclusion that I have: abandon all hope of serving high end fare and focus instead on delivering consistent, simple, delicious but forgivable preparations at a lower price point. The drinks are all silly blended umbrella affairs, but they're fun. The calories will get you long before the alcohol does (lots of the former, very little of the latter), so go easy if you're planning a big meal. Except for Sunday nights when it's packed for live Hawaiian music, the atmosphere can be more depressing than romantic. It's a little like eating in a library, and the environment tends toward the geriatric. The service is a strange mix of formality stuffed into an informal environment without any of the professionalism you'd expect from a $50 entree restaurant. I'd rather they just modified everyone's expectations by relaxing the menu, the atmosphere, and the service, and focusing instead on quality and consistency. The price? Yeah, it's highway robbery. But you really don't have much of a choice, so you might as well suck it up and enjoy.

Review for TRAVAASA HOTEL RESTAURANT. Rumor is, you have to make reservations here for dinner. Which I felt silly calling 2 weeks in advance doing... and then they didn't have it in their books... and they were half empty so we were seated right away regardless. This is apparently the only sit-down dinner restaurant in Hana - so we went expecting it'd be overpriced. The grounds of Travaasa Hotel are beautiful. The dining room features a beautiful view of the Pacific with a nice evening breeze. There are cool wall-to-wall glass window doors that can be left open or closed according to the weather. Surprisingly, the food was actually quite tasty (nothing extraordinary but good flavors). But expensive, REALLY EXPENSIVE even for Maui. We opted to share an appetizer, salad, and one entree. $16 for garlic shrimp with capellini $15 for iceberg wedge salad $40 for seared ahi which came with veggies, but was a scandalous additional $6 for jasmine rice $15 per Mai tai As you can see, the bill quickly adds up. For the price and for the "high end" hotel/restaurant this is claiming to be, the service was juvenile. The wait staff was stiff and nice compensating for being inexperienced. There were only two waiters... and even though there were only 4 tables when we were seated, it took a good 10 minutes and reminding before our drinks came out after ordering. I hate when the lack of competition allows businesses to be complacent. I'm hoping that Travaasa will up their game to justify their prices... maybe by the next time we're back in Hana.

Great food! A bit pricey but what creative, quality dining isn't on Maui? We ate on Sunday evening on the patio. Nice breezes, Hawaiian live music in background, great service. The portions were surprisingly big. We had the entrée curry vegetables and entrée orzo. We started with the lobster ulu cakes, yum! We skipped drinks, a whopping $15 for cocktails and $15-16 for most of the wines by the glass. No thanks! Overall, a great experience.

The service is terrible and the food is just barely edible. It was our only choice after being turned away from Hana Ranch restaurant (two tour buses had just arrived) and all the local places closed on a Sunday. We ordered a beer, one cocktail (not very good), a Caesar salad, burger and fish tacos - $83 without tip. All food arrived cold after a long wait and nothing looked appetizing but we were starving so we ate what we could. The fish tacos were disgusting (never had fish tacos with cheddar cheese before), the burger was not properly cooked and cold and the Caesar was just a mayo dressing with some weird fish -- not anchovies -- thrown on top. Do not recommend at all. The worst food we've ever had on Maui. I can't believe this place has any good reviews.

Above decent breakfast considering the local options are very very limited. This is the highest-end in quality in town; great view, very friendly service, prices expectedly higher than what most tourists may assume. Eggs Benedict was very good.

Food is ehh. Pricey. Food took over 30 minutes to come to my table. They were not busy st all. Service is pretty good. But they seem to avoid you if they know you are waiting on your food for a long time. Will not return

I was a bit weary after reading some of the recent reviews and expected slow service, mediocre food at a high price but my girlfriend and I were very pleasantly surprised when we stopped in for lunch and received excellent service and a tasty meal! Yes, it was a bit pricey but people should realize that Hana is in the middle of nowhere on the far side of the island and I imagine it costs more to get supplies and operate a resort here so the prices didn't seem that out of line to us. I would highly recommend and would return if I make the trek to Hana again!

We came here for a snack and drinks before leaving Hana. We ordered: - ahi sashimi - waikalea breeze with rum - pineapple mojito It was around 2:30-3:00 p.m. when we came in. Service was attentive and friendly. The drinks were refreshing and well made. The sashimi was fresh. I wasn't expecting much since Hana was tiny and there wasn't much of anything around here, but was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. Yes, this place is pricey but when was the last time you went into a hotel restaurant in Maui and it was cheap?

Like a very unfunny joke...dare I say, a "travasaty"? The "service" was so bad that we all left the restaurant deeply depressed, because we felt so bad for the poor waiters, who had clearly had no training whatsoever in their profession. And, I'm sorry, but a restaurant that charges upward of $50 per entree has a responsibility to hire professionals, and if none are available, to make a minimal effort to train their staff in the basics of food service. In fact, I have had far better service at fast food joints (...and fast food this certainly is not--a simple request for bread took almost 20 minutes, and the place was practically empty. Other requests, like for a second glass of wine, were earnestly repeated back to us, but then somehow completely forgotten in the 10 seconds it took our waitress to walk from our table to the bar.) The wine, by the way, was undrinkable, and when because of this I asked if I could change my order to a cocktail, I was met with a blank, baffled stare, followed by whispered conversations between our waitress and her manager and then with the bartender, after which, 10 minutes later, I was informed that the bartender had left his post and the order would be placed shortly, and, by the way, what was the drink I wanted again? What's a Campari? Is that a type of Gin? Is it on the menu? Me; "Please, let me just ask the bartender, he should know." She: "No, no, I'll handle it." At this point the bartender walked back in (judging from the smell of him, coming back from a long cigarette break,) and I managed to request my drink, directly from him...which did eventually come. I drank it as fast as possible to drown my sorrows. The waitress then came to our table several times to apologize in a way that inspired pity rather than forgiveness. In fact, the overall feeling of the place is one of uncomfortable colonialism, a place where underpaid, unqualified locals are exploited while watching rich tourists clearly able to flush [their money down the toilet, which is what you'll be doing if you come here.

We heard bad reviews about this place but there aren't many choices in Hana so we took a risk. We thought we would share an appetizer to test the waters. We chose the clams. Bad choice (not that you have much of one). Half of the clams came with broken shells so we couldn't eat them (as you don't know if they were dead or alive prior to cooking). What kind of quality control sends out a dish with broken shells in it? We didn't want to spend money on entrees so we decided to share the crumble for dessert. It was insult to crumbles worldwide. Dry, cold and tasteless. We had one bite and left the rest. It always surprises me when servers take uneaten food away and don't ask if there was a problem. This happened but I wasn't all that surprised since the waitress/bartender was half in the bag and didn't really give a (insert expletive). Bonus for us though cause she was pouring very generous drinks.

Servers are awesome. Super kind and nice- don't expect mainland quickness, its Hawaii! Food is good. Very expensive. Healthy. If you don't see something that suits you, order off-menu. All was fresh tasting. This is the only game in town, and its pretty good. Great staff!

We had lunch here after treating ourselves to massages at the spa at Hotel Hana (we stayed at Hana Kai; not Hotel Hana). I had the pulled pork sliders with fries and pineapple slaw - sooooo good!! Every bite was heaven and it was the perfect portion size. Hubby got the quesadilla which was a-okay (but my meal was definitely better!). Service was a little negligent but we were so relaxed after our massages that it didn't matter. And they were decorating for Christmas while we ate (we had the entire restaurant to ourselves) and one of the employees was singing carols in the most beautiful tone... I will probably remember that meal for many years to come :). Tables have a lovely view of the hotel grounds and the ocean in the distance. Don't let the sticker shock kill you - the prices are ridiculous but you're at the Hotel Hana, so what do you expect?

The service is awesome - somewhat unexpected for a place so remote. The food is also unexpectedly good. Since losing their name chef, the local staff is preparing some amazingly interesting, fresh, and tasty cuisine. The options have gone downhill a bit - the menu gets redundant fairly quick. For one meal, you won't be disappointed. But in five days' time, they didn't change the menu once. Where it used to be a separate bar menu, now it is just one menu for room service, bar, and restaurant. The staff were polite, knowledgeable, and friendly - but a bit overtaxed and overworked at times. We had the Ahi Sashimi which was a fantastic cut and freshness. The Flatbread pizza was *delicious*, as were the salads... the wedge, the Caesar. The potato leek soup was really good... perfectly seasoned, not too heavy. The Filet was outstanding and a huge portion - perfectly prepared. The ribs - wait! you get it! Over 5 days we sampled almost everything, and although they didn't change the menu, it really didn't get old. It's an exceptional place, and don't miss dessert.

Delicious! Besides my friend's wedding, my dinner here was the highlight of my trip to Maui! Walked here from our vacation rental ( homeaway.com ) and decided to try it out since it was the only restaurant recommended in Hana. Prices are high, but comparable to a nice restaurant anywhere else. We had a bacon and tomato salad, then I had the fish and the bf had the beef. It was all SO GOOD. Service was attentive but laid back. I really enjoyed the entire experience. Also, walking to and from the restaurant (and anywhere around Hana) is ridiculously romantic and beautiful. I absolutely hated the ride there and back, so I wish we had stayed there longer.

Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Sat on the bar patio under a lage umbrella and enjoyed the late afternoon daily rain fall. Bread good, salad tasty( kula farm mixed baby greens)$16, m-cademia nut crusted uku $45)local caught ehu ($45)were lovely preparations. Side starch of bhutanese rice which had no taste at all but we can now say we have tried it. Dessert good but a little too hot.(cobbler) about a total of $165 tip included. Yes it was expensive but it was good portions and well prepared.

This restaurant was a huge disappointment. This was one of the only options at Hana for dinner, but the prices were so high we expected a good meal. First of all, they didn't have our reservation written down. We called them twice to confirm, yet they failed to put us on the list both times. Their restaurant had plenty of space, so we were still able to be seated after a ten minute wait. The service was not good, either. Our waitress kept taking our drinks before we were finished and, although very chatty, was not very skilled. A tray was dropped while we were there and, after ordering, we waited for an hour and fifteen minutes for our food to finally come out. The dinners we ordered were far below restaurant quality. The steak that was ordered was thin, overcooked, tough and overall a very poor quality steak. We flagged down the waitress to tell her, but didn't order a replacement because we had waited so long. Even after the steak had been taken off the menu, our meal was around $200 for three entrees! We do not recommend this restaurant at all.

  • Jessica S.

WAY overpriced. Food fair, not awful, just not unique or particularly cooked well. Service slow , though friendly. Just not ideal situation given that you have so few options in Hana. Over $150 for dinner of four- 2 main meals, 1 appetizer as meal, 1 kid meal, 2 cokes , water for adults. Insane for something that isn't mouth watering and reasonable to get to table.

EVERYTHING ABOUT IT WAS EXCELLENT! From the service to the food this restaurant is top notch. We stayed at the hotel and ate there several time over the course of the week and every night was wonderful. The locally caught fish was excellent and the Hawaiian beef is great! Menu Fav: Dessert Cheese Course - really wonderful selection of fresh cheese and local fruit. Breakfast Fav: Oatmeal with fresh and dried fruits - mango and papaya The weekend luau is also a great way to sample a variety of dishes.

Had a late lunch (5:00) after spending the afternoon at the Black Sand Beach. The view was spectacular, & the service was good. The fresh catch sandwich with fries was $18, which would be fine, except it was cold. 3 stars for the great view & friendly waitress!

We ended up here accidentally, after we couldn't find any fresh fish to buy at the stores or at the side of the road. It turned into an amazing dinner night. Pricey, but well worth it! We also got a tour of the facilities, just for fun, and would think about staying here someday in the future, after we hit the lottery.

My husband, infant daughter and I stopped by for a late lunch around 2PM. The food was excellent but expensive and the service was AWFUL! Our bill for two cocktails, two beers, and one appetizer was $47.00 but the service was very, very slow. 20 minutes to get our drinks after waiting 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order.

Our party ate here for lunch and experience the first sticker shock of our entire Hawaiian vacation- $18 for a burger! Yikes. I frown on reviewers who harp on price points, but the prices on the lunch menu did stick out. What do you get for your $20 burger? Pretty good view, service this is fair to poor. Oh and did I mention it is one of two restaurants in Hana? So review or not, you will probably eat here if you stay at the hotel or anywhere else in the area. I should mention this is the restaurant at the Hotel Hana Maui, which is the only thing approaching a traditional hawaiian hotel vacation experience, so enjoy it.

When we arrived and walked in, not one person on staff greeted us or even made eye contact with us. They were busy but definitely not too busy to see us. Service was slow, but they were polite when they did get to us. Food was great, but the fries were cold. It was pricier than we expected as we paid $50+ for lunch for two.

There are numerous reviews of the Hotel Hana Maui on Yelp. We did not stay there, but did eat at their restaurant. It is deserving of a review of its own. We started with a cocktail at the adjacent bar. We were in Hana, so we followed our friends' advice and ordered a Mai Tai. This Mai Tai packed a punch, with an obvious proper portion of rum. Both my wife and I had fresh fish for dinner. In each case, preparation was superb, with subtle sauces and al dente vegetables. It was by far the best restaurant we encountered anywhere on Maui

I would give this place 0 star if I could. We ate lunch here. The atmosphere was nice and we had high hopes for this restaurant. The service was extremely slow. I waited 20 minutes for my iced tea. We ordered a regular burger and a fish burger (catch of the day burger). I don't know how anybody can mess up burgers like they did at this place. The fish I had had no flavor and was dry. The tomatoes, lettuce, and onion on the bun were not fresh at all and looked like they'd been sitting around in the heat for hours. They were warm and the lettuce was limp and soggy. Our waitress was slow and messed up people's orders left and right. The server brought somebody else's order to our table. The waitress brought us earl grey tea instead of passion fruit tea we ordered. We asked for medium-rare for the regular burger but the meat was well-done with a single slice of Kraft cheddar cheese on top. $18 for the sorry little fish burger which I wouldn't have paid $5 for. We sat outside and there was a tiny little emaciated calico kitty going around so I gave her food. She was so sweet and so hungry. The server who brought us the wrong food kicked the little kitty out of her way. The waitress also complained that that kitty comes around all the time because guests keep feeding "IT." These people are mean-spirited, ignorant, incompetent, slow-witted numb skulls. I usually leave at least 20% tip but at this place, I only left 10% which was the lowest I'd ever left at any restaurant. This place SUCKS!

Don't waste your time or money. Horrendous service, terribly overpriced, only the ambiance aspires to the sophistication they're attempting. Food is almost McDonald's quality but $20+ per plate. Go another mile down the road to Cafe Romantica; wish we did.

Really very good. The ambience is lovely, the waiters attentive, and most important the good was excellent. We started with the Caesar salad: the real thing, no bacon or tomatoes or other adulterations. My husband and I both had fish mains--he the seared ahi and I the steamed mahi mahi special. Both arrived with delicious vegetables, a reasonable serving size of the fish, and both were absolutely delicious. The dessert menu was a bit dull, but we weren't interested anyway. The only downside is the price, but hey it's Maui.

Our entire family (19 of us!) took a trip to Hawaii and we did the Road to Hana. For lunch we stopped here, as this hotel/restaurant had great reviews on Yelp. I don't know if it was because there were 19 of us - we took over the entire restaurant - or if it was an off day but the service was horrendous. There were 3 other people in the restaurant when we walked in so they weren't busy. They took FOREVER getting our drink orders and food orders. You would think they would hurry and do their best to serve a large party but it wasn't until my husband asked to speak with the General Manager that they sped up. They told my husband they would speed up their service and thus we never saw the GM. Anyway, the food came out and it was average. I had ordered dessert with my meal and it took so long (just small bread pudding) that they put it in a to-go container because we had paid our check already. Bread pudding tasted terrible. They ended up comping 5 of the meals for the service. If you have a small group, the restaurant service may have been better. However you think for a high-rated hotel they would know how to accommodate large groups. Very disappointing.

This was the absolute worst restaurant I have ever been to! My fiancé took me on my first vacation to Maui. He lived there 5 years ago for several years and from the moment we booked our trip he was raving about the road to Hana and the Hana Hotel Restaurant. So all the way up the road he kept saying, "wait til you taste this cheeseburger and how nice this place is. Well, first thing he said when we drove up was, " it looks different, they've changed management". But how different could it be right? WRONG!! First we walk into no other patrons in the whole bar area and no greating from staff so we started walking towards the outside patio which looked nice compared to the very dark and dreary restaurant and bar area. A waitress stopped us and did say they usually close off the patio when it rains, but it was barely misty so we said that it was ok, and she said"sit wherever" so we proceeded to walk outside. I being the woman of course my fiancé had me walk out first, no problem. There was a collection of water right at the door entrance which had some mold or moss sliding down the retaining wall and onto the wood decking. However, my fiancé walked thru and slipped. Not a big deal, we sat down the server gave us menus and to my fiancé shock the cheeseburgers were $21. So we decide to just order a Mai tai. The misty conditions stopped and other people came out to sit. My fiancé went to the restroom and when he returned he slipped and fell hard on his knee and even one of the young bartenders saw and asked if he was ok and did he need ice. I know this is a long story so to shorten it my fiancé asked to speak with the manager to let him know what happened so they could fix the problem so it doesn't happen to anyone else. The manager, Manuel Arriaga met us and not only was he unsympathetic but he asked us if we were told not to go out there while it was raining and when we told him yes but then the server said go sit where you want. Calling over the server, a young girl, he asked her if she told us to not sit out there and of course she said yes. Then he became even ruder because he felt it was our fault for going out there and said he no longer wanted to talk to us and started walking away. My fiancé, being frustrated with the treatment we were getting told him that he had a problem with his attitude and Manuel turned and said, "I would hate to have a couple of his guys rough him up to take him out of there". Thankfully my fiancé did not hear that but I did and said lets just go. We were shocked and upset with the managements way of taking care of their patrons. If he would have simply appologized and at least looked at the problem and acted even a little concerned we would have walked away happy. I have worked in the food industry for 15 years and know all ther is to know about safety in restaurants. They should have had a safety mat at all entrances and exits as well as cones or signs warning of slippery conditions, just as The Grand Wailae has, a real high quality resort hotel. The conditions where my fiancé slipped was not caused from the light mist that was going on but by a long term problem with a rain gutter that is not sealed and drips in the corner of the building. It was the only build up of water and mold//moss that made a slimy condition. I took pictures! This manager should be fired and I will be calling the owners of this restaurant. To let him know what kind of person he has running his "High end resort".

I have to say I was skeptical about eating here after reading the reviews. However, I was blown away at how delicious our two dinners were at Ka'uiki. First of all, our two servers (different nights) were so sweet. Service could have been faster, but we enjoyed taking our time, sitting on the lanai, and listening to live music. We were not in a hurry whatsoever. The two appetizers we had (lemongrass hot pot & beef carpaccio) were so delicious. We went back the second night just for the lemongrass hot pot but their menu had changed so we had the carpaccio instead. Both were so good, unlike anywhere else I've had either. For dinner, we split the risotto and added shrimp. So GREAT. The second night we had the surf and turf. Of all the items we ate here, this was our least favorite because the portion was small. Overall, our food was great. Yes, it's expensive but there aren't many other options in Hana. If you're hesitant about eating here, give it a try! But be prepared to be there a while...after all, it is Hana!

The restaurant is beautiful and the staff was pleasant. However, the menu didn't have enough choices. Most if the items were heavy on the spice. The service was extremely inefficient. Our wine choice was not available; however, our waiter must have hunted for 15 minutes before he sheepishly returned with a wine list for a second choice. The bread was very good. The ahi was good. My fish was under done. It was an unpleasant surprise that ruined the entire dinner. The cobbler was not cobbler, but warmed fruit with crumbs in top. The shocking high price was not worth the experience.

OK, flash back 15 years ago. I'm on a trip from Japan to SFO. I decide to stop by Hawaii for the weekend, then decide to fly to Maui for the day, then decided on the last minute to drive up to Hana (which I heard about but did not know was on a winding 50 mile one way vomit inducing road) starting at 7am, to make it back to Honolulu for a flight to SFO that same day at 9pm. Suffice it to say, my last visit to Hotel Hana Maui was not so lei'd back Hawaiian. Although I looked Hawaiian, I acted strangely rushed, did not speak pidgin and had a west coast university of British Columbia accent-- the waitress thought I was a NARC. This time I did not have the look of "Pa`ahana n au" (I'm busy, get away), but relaxed "Hele mei hoohiwahiwa" (come celebrate...my kick back day with me). This time I had time to look at the menu once. The staff were polite and knowledgeable but looked overworked. I had the Ahi Sashimi, can't go wrong when you are surrounded by water. The salads, Caesar great. A good portion of the fillet was savory; it had better be, since I see cows grazing on these green hills across the street. REMEMBER, FORMAL ATTIRE: In Hawaii, for cocktails and dinner: Ladies, dresses, skirts or slacks. Guys aloha shirts and dress shorts. I wished I was this formal all the time.

Pricey as expected. Being the only little piece of upscale in Hana you better believe they're gonna charge. We had only stopped here to tour the grounds and have some coffee at the cafe/restaurant. Its a lovely hotel and worth a stroll through or to enjoy some coffee/tea.

We had a lovely meal at the Travaasa Hotel. They have grass-fed beef and locally caught fishes on their menu, both a huge plus for me. My husband and I split the tasting menu and added an extra entree. Everything was well prepared and fresh, and this is by far the best meal you can find in Hana. My only minor warning involves the reservation situation. I was told a reservation was highly recommended, but the first time I called I was patched through to a voicemail box that "has not yet been set up." The second time I got someone and everything was smooth from there. There does not seem to be a direct number to the restaurant on the website, so I had to call the hotel and get patched through. I was disappointed (in myself) that we had a reservation at 7:30, as I bet the hotel and restaurant are beautiful. You don't want to miss a precious moment on the drive to Hana, but if you have time, I would recommend getting to the restaurant before the sun goes down, as it appears the grounds, etc., are very beautiful.

Be aware that Hana is small and Hotel Hana or Travaasa Corp. owns most of the towns stores in addition to this obnoxious hotel resort. Drove to Hana from Lahaina and straight to Hotel Hana looking for a massage. The front desk staff looked at us like we didn't belong there: dirty, hot, tired, and broke? And when we found our way to the spa I was immediately turned off by the snobby receptionist and the high prices for some pretty basic services. The woman smirked when we decided against services. We didn't realize at the time that nearly everything in Hana closes at sundown, except of course for Hotel Hana. We were hungry and found our way back to Hotel Hana. We waited 15 minutes before the bartender so rudely told us if we were looking to eat to find a seat. Our server came over with a nasty attitude and when my parter ordered a sparkling water and because of his heavy Boston accent, our server said "spahhklin' watah?? I don't know what that is" with a demeaning look. We had already put in our appetizer orders, but I was so offended by the hotel idea behind Hotel Hana's existence that we walked out immediately. Throughout our time in Hana we learned from locals that Hotel Hana/Travaasa has moved in and is taking over the locals income. Many local businesses, including hotel and general stores, are forced to shut their doors and work at Hotel Hana for income. You can imagine that many locals despise Hotel Hana. Many hotels have kitchen/knitchenettes, so I would suggest renting one of those and buying your food and groceries before sundown.

Most expensive burger we have ever had, had to spend $100 for lunch for three. The soda tasted like chemicals.

We have eaten here for breakfast twice. Expensive for the portions and ingredients making it more tourist friendly than local friendly. You could make the same breakfast for six+ people by buying the ingredients from Hasegawa's for what you pay for one meal. Nice views, but we got an unfriendly older server who seemed inconvenienced by us and her work. A slice of pineapple on the plate doesn't justify the price.

No, no,no. Fix it and fix it fast. The atmosphere, at the no longer called, The Hotel Hana Maui is too depressing for words. The servers exuded boredom and disinterest. We went into the bar, were served but the whole fibe was way off. So, we didn't have the dinner we went in to have. This hotel was in the 1000 Things to do before you die, book. So, I went, years ago. Then we went back. And again we went back. It was wonderful and had the great aloha feeling. Now? On this Saturday evening, no entertainment, no people, no good. We were sooooo disappointed. Considering this hotel is the major employer in the area the people working might want to get their heart back, as without the hotel, man, where you gonna work?

Looking for a lunch stop after drive to Hana, not too many choices. Hotel Travaasa bar had a nice quiet deck overlooking a garden with birds chirping. Menu was basic hotel, some good (ahi sashimi) some not so good (gazpacho). Grilled chicken club with sweet potato fries much better then I thought it would be. Staff was friendly at 2:00, food and drinks came out very timely for laid back Hana

Food was ok not particularly special. Since you really have little choice as where to eat it would help to have a menu which varied daily at least during the week. I would be fine to repeat it a second week. Service was good. The quality of the food was good also.

I am reluctant to give this place three stars. The food was fair, I had to send my pork tenderloin back because it was like leather (tough to do with pork tenderloin). The service staff was friendly, but understaffed. They held their own and made the best of the circumstance. The hotel has been recently purchased and renamed Travaasa. I can't say much for the management of the place, it took me talking to three people before I could make a reservation. Its a beautiful hotel and the Hawiian music in the restaurant was excellent! Worth going just for the drinks and music.

One member of our group on the Road to Hana kept saying how wonderful the hamburgers at this hotel restaurant were, how juicy and great fries etc. Well, we had to stop there. Easy enough to find if you make a right at the police station at the fork in the road. There is a dedicated free parking lot with incredible view of the rolling hills and mature trees. It is Hawaii after all. The restaurant was nearly empty in the late afternoon. We ordered the burgers, aside from one person who ordered the shrimp salad. When the food arrived it turns out that it wasn't the burger but the grilled chicken burger that the person had ordered before and that was so good. So much for long term memory recall. The burgers were good but not $21 per burger good. The shrimp salad had two shrimp in it !! The medium rare and well done orders were inconsistently made. The service however was excellent, very attentive staff and beautiful view of the rolling grounds, palm trees and the ocean made the food and the final check much more palatable.

With Hana being such a tiny place, food option is really limited. While the bungalows are cute, the food at the restaurant is not very good. But I think you have no choice but to eat here if you are in Hana.

Being one of the few restaurants only in Hana or maybe the only. Considering the food and price this place isn't really worth the bite. 15 dollars for like a hamburger that is just like any regular restaurant burger, 16 for a chicken sandwich (really??!), and Guacamole with sweet potato and taro chips are 8 bucks. Considering Hana in the middle of almost nowhere in Maui I rather pack my own lunch. Their menu doesn't have much of a selection because they are really in the middle of nowhere. Service here is excellent, but if you want lunch to bite a hole in your pocket and/or don't want to pack a lunch well this is for you.
