Today they forgot to turn on the fryer but I don't care. Almost any amount of waiting is worth it. Best plate lunch ever. Staff is super friendly and they remember you. A seriously awesome small town experience in the middle of Oahu's hustle and bustle.

The mechanic is extremely rude. I went there to get a safety inspection and he saw me drive up- no greeting, no hello, just glanced at me and went about his business. Another customer arrived a second later and he helped that customer then continued about his business. I approached him to get some help and he abruptly said, "You're going to have to wait a minute." I decided to take my business elsewhere. You lost a customer, Wally.

Outstanding food, service and personality. Every dish is out of this world and the Loco Moco is awesome. This is a weekly lunch stop for me. And you can knock out that safety inspection while you eat. This place is a must do for locals and tourists.

Cleanliness usually correlates to a great garage and Wally Ho's is no exception. Casual and spotless, the kitchen serves up a wide array of regional foods to include a juicy Chicken Katsu!

Lots of free parking, great people, amazing taste and a lot of food. I usually get the grilled pastrami, mac salad. Num num num

Found this Delicious Gem after doing the USS Arizona tour as we wanted to find a place nearby instead of returning back to Waikiki to pretty much avoid the crowds. Went on Yelp and found this Gem! Korean Garlic Chicken and Lynn's Awesome (aka Tri-tip) Meat plate lunch Yum Yum Yum. Thank You Yelp!

The first time we drove past this place, I only caught a glimpse as we passed it. It literally is an old gas station/garage that was turned into a tiny restaurant. After seeing it, I turned to my BF (who had chosen the place based on Yelp reviews) and asked if he was sure. It did look a little sketch. He said yes, so we circled around, and boy was I glad we did. They had very few spots in front of the joint, so we parked next to Runners Hi and in front of Dixie Grill. As we walked it, we were greeted with two white boards full of local meals. I opted for something I've never had before, the Okinawan Shoyu Pork. The meal came with 2 scoops rice and mac salad...and it was really good. The pork stood well with the flavorful soy sauce marinade/glaze. Since it is a really small place, seating is very limited, so depending on the time of day, you might need to take it out.

So I've secretly been in love with Wally Ho's ever since I've moved here. The first time I seen it there was a Snap On truck visiting the garage side. It made me feel at home because my brother in law was a District Manager for Snap On (used to sell it for a year) and now owns a garage. I could see my own family owning a awesome Mom and Pop place like this. So we went here to get our inspection done and the guy gave us the best aloha vibe and was super fair on telling us what we needed to fix our car. We fixed the jeep, came back and decided to finally dine in while it was being worked on. We actually ordered several things, but I want to RAVE ON is the pastrami sandwich. They didn't even have rye bread that day and it was sooooooo good. Best I've had in a long time, if ever. Also the lilikoi bar was so good as well. It's similar to a lemon bar, but better and island style. The staff was amazing. My daughter made sure and thanked Aunty before leaving. She was impressed by the food (and I have a picky eater on my hands) Big shout out to Wally Ho's. Even though the parking is slim pickings (and everyone knows I suck at parking) I will definitely come back for my piece of home and aloha spirit.

I've been here for lunch several times and I love this place. I finally decided to stop so my little girl could checkout out this weekend. Delicious food in a family owned spot. Love it.

I checked this place out because well the name was intriguing. How many breakfast places are in mechanic's shops? Anyway there are just two breakfast items to chose from: 2 Eggs any style with choice of meat and starch; and the good old Loco Moco. I had the eggs and it was satisfactory but nothing special and not even that cheap all things considered. The Korean Garlic Fried Chicken looked and smelled awesome so I may give this place another try but for lunch. If you're in this neighborhood and you need Brekkie you're probably better off continuing down the road...

Really nice workers here! I've lived in the Aiea side for some time now, but never took a chance to try their food here. I picked up an order for a couple of our friends. I ordered the hamburger steak, shoyu pork and the garlic chicken and they all said the food was tasty and they could tell it was home cooked. One of the ladies there even helped me with dispensing the 4 sodas and provided me boxes to put them all in so that it wouldn't spill over on the ride home. Definitely would come back here to try other items on their menu.

My family of four was visiting Oahu for the day from Maui. We were looking for a traditional local plate lunch place and found Wally's here on yelp. Like others had said, Wally's is a gem!! Yes, it's in an old gas station and if it weren't for yelp, we never would have stopped. But, we were so glad we did; We felt like we were eating Mom's Sunday Dinner... It was delicious!! Generous portions, great prices, and even some American kid friendly options. The staff was friendly and courteous. You need to give Wally's a try!!!

Great place. The mechanic, I think it's the owner, is a really helpful guy. This is the second time I came for a safety check. Both times he didn't charge. He was real honest and straight forward about what I needed to get fixed to pass. Most places has just failed me and charged. I truly appreciate a honest mechanic.

We had the clam chowder, grilled pastrami sandwich and Korean garlic chicken. The clam chowder was terrible, I took 2 bites and tossed it. My husband had the Korean garlic chicken, he had a couple bites and threw it away, it was so bad. I had the grilled pastrami, it was okay, very greasy but edible. Overall, given the reviews, I was extremely disappointed. Maybe it was the cook that day, or just an off day. But we will not be going back.

What a cool little local place! We had the chicken katsu, chicken teriyaki, and the famous loco moco. All were fabulous! Made fresh to order. Friendly service! A great experience!

Been coming here for years, they treat me like I'm a part of their big, wonderful family. Their food is more like eating a home cooked meal rather than a simple plate lunch. The menu is comprised of mostly local basics but everything is good and made with love.

  • Dean B.

Best chicken katsui I have ever had. The brown rice is cooked just right. I hate lame brown rice. And the Ho family is so very nice. Love to eat here!

The first time I heard of this place I laughed, thinking the 2 didn't really seem to go together. But I've ordered take out from here and their plate lunches are totally yummy. Just what you'd expect from a good local place. Yesterday I went for breakfast, and it was the first time I actually ate there. The service was fast and friendly. The 3 egg omelet was perfect! As for the garage side of the business, you won't find better quality work anywhere. Their prices aren't cheap, but hey, what garage in Hawaii is? But if you take your car in for work, they will give you an honest assessment of the work that needs to be done, or not done. My son took his Nissan in expecting about $1000 worth of repairs, and he was told it was something minor. He was only charged for the labor. I took my van in in July and the alternator had to be replaced: quick friendly service. In November, I took it in again due to a noise I kept hearing. It turns out the alternator was bad, so they replaced it with no charge. I won't take my vehicles anywhere else.

Omg the female sneezed into her glove, she was also on her cell phone, and she had the nerve to put my salmon in the pan, and make my salad all with the same gloves. Like really? Never again. I cannot imagine how many other times this has happened at different establishments.

After passing these place every time I go to Pearlridge Shopping center I was curious how good the food could be a in service station turned car repair drive in. I spoke to the owner and asked why it was no longer a gas station and she said it would cost them over a million dollars to replace the gas tanks underground so they decided to stick with car service and converted the inside to a diner. I can't speak so much about the car service there as I've never had my car serviced there but I have tried a few of their plates and they were pretty good. Some of my favorites include the loco moco (gravy is tasty and hamburger is pretty good), hamburger curry (nicely seasoned, not too sweet and just enough spice), and lasagna (generous portion with garlic bread). They also do catering and their famous banana bread is pretty good. The only down things are the paper plates, plastic utensils, limited parking and hours of operation (close by 5:00 pm).

    (4)
  • Kelly M.

Everyone is right; the banana bread is really good. Also had the loco moco (4 stars) and Korean Fried Chicken (3 stars). I really liked the loco moco because it had enough gravy. Hate a dry loco moco.

Love me some Wally Ho's! Excellent, tasty food and the friendliest service around. Can't wait to go back next time we are in Aiea. Great food for takeout to the beach if you are visiting. We ended up going here time and time again, breakfast, lunch and dinner:)

    (5)
  • Lou L.

Excellent, tasty, fresh food. Very reasonable price. Service was excellent and friendly. I would highly recommend it. We try to go every time we are in Aiea. This time we had the special which was a delicious steak. And we had the beef stew which was just scrumptious. We also had the Korean chicken with not too much batter, like some other restaurants that have more batter then chicken

  • Shaney K.

Small place and if you are not watching you will miss it, but the food was delicious!!! The Korean garlic chicken was so good and I could not get enough of the banana bread. Don't let the mechanics shop on the side distract you from this Hawaii must have!! Definately a must try!!

Ok... I absolutely love this place. I've lived in Aiea since I was 5 and have driven past this place hundreds of times. Finally stopped in and I am in love. Reminds me of a cute mom & pop diner with a garage. I know, you'd never guess that you could get your safety check and an awesome lunch at the same time! Service is great here. Friendly and they make you feel at home. So far we've tried the Loco Moco, hamburger steak, garlic chicken, Lynn's awesome meat, chili frank, and the clubhouse. Everything was delicious. I'm very particular about Loco Moco's... It's all about the gravy and they get it right! Now... Here's my favorite thing about this place... The banana bread! To die for! Moist and flavorful. Melts in your mouth. I'm drooling as I type. It's a good thing I bought a loaf last time and there's still some left so I can have a piece after I finish this review! Yum!!!

Lots of reviews for the food (which is amazing - especially that Korean Garlic Chicken), but this one is for the auto portion. I take my car here for everything: safety checks and repairs. Everything is fixed quickly, done right, and at reasonable rates. My favorite part: never tries to up sell me. Of all the repairs I have had to make there (12 year old car), he has fixed all the first time, except once. But even in that case - he still took care of me. To give an idea of how trustworthy this guy is: I took my car in for a starting issue. Thought it was an ignition problem, and he replaced it at a good price. Worked well for a while, then it came back. Brought it back (he remembered me) and he found an issue with a bushing in clutch - he replaced it at no cost. Most places would have charged me too much for both replacements and probably found "other things" it could have been and started with the most expensive possibilities. It took 10 years, but I finally found a mechanic that I can trust. Wish I had started there!

Awesome food. My son's and I had the garlic chicken, hamburger steak and Lynn ' s Awesome meat They did us good. Taking 2 loaves of banana bread with us to share with the girls. We will definitely be back!

Coming from a small town and moving here you start to miss one thing. Mom and Pop type of places. I started really missing a place to eat where the people are nice and you can get cheap simple food. Here the employees are super nice and bring your food to your tables. The food is nice and simple and delicious. And the inside of the grill looks like you have been transported back to the 1980's where you would go there to get a soda or a shake. Sadly I did not try either of those. But I did have a sandwhich and a salad. Both are awesome. Now the reason I came here was because I had to get a safety check and Wally Ho's is right by my work. It is only 15 dollars here and the guy is super nice. By the time I was done eating he had my safety check done. I think that next time I need something done on my car I'll go here!

LOVE Wally Ho's! We have had our vehicles serviced here again and again. Sun & Timmy are the real deal mechanics who will do you no wrong. For anyone who says its expensive, all auto work in Hawaii is expensive. I would rather pay a little bit more to get the excellent service and trustworthy work. And who doesn't like to grab a meal while their car is being serviced? We swing by here pretty much once a week after outrigger paddling to grab a delicious breakfast and the best cup of Lion coffee around. The garlic chicken for lunch is a hefty plate of mouth watering goodness. We have also used their catering numerous times with outstanding results. This is a hard working family that knows the true meaning of Ohana. They will welcome you in and treat you well. Be sure to try Nathan's homemade banana bread, lemon bars & lilikoi bars. So Ono!

So, according to a local article, Wally Ho's Loco Moco was given the certain distinction of having one of the top 5 best Loco Mocos. Me, being the inquisitive type and one helluva LM expert, decided to give it a try. Whenever I try a new plate lunch place or whatevers I order the LM. It's hard to screw it up, and yet, lots of places do. If you screw it up, I can expect the same for the rest of the menu, and therefore will probably never return. Let's just say that I WILL be returning to Wally's. That was probably the best LM I've had in a very long time, and I'm from the big island! What sets it apart: the PATTY. Hoh. Delicious. Home made, grilled, thick, tasty, awesome. Why not 5 stars? I really really really wish that 2 eggs were automatic. If I had known, I would've asked for the 2nd. Otherwise, beautiful. I'm going back. I may try something else on their menu, I may not. I may just eat their LM forever and ever. But yes, I'm a fan. I'm a fan.

Staff and mechanic are very friendly and helpful. Was able to get both of my cars safety checked on different days with no wait. I know they make no money on these, but it's something we all have to do so I appreciate them accommodating me. The food is yummy and gives you something to do while you wait which isn't very long. Get some banana bread to take home. If you're only going to eat lunch get there early, not much seating and the specials sell out quickly.

(Review for Mechanic customer service, NOT grub) Wow, in the worst possible way. After reading all the reviews, I was excited about this place and had a high expectation. My husband and I got the worst vibe from the mechanic who seemed to want to do anything else, but do a safety inspection on our car! We just looked at each other and went 'never mind, thank you' and went somewhere else. I am all about customer service and at least pretending to seem interest in our needs. Would not recommend you guys go here!

Gotta say this place was quite a surprise. It was very clean, quick, friendly, and most importantly tasty. Had the salmon club, and it had crisp bacon, savory salmon, and toasted bread....perfect. Their loco moco was the best on this side of the island too.

  • Bryan I.

This is a great place to go for totally legit island food. The fact that it's in the same building as the auto repair garage and that parking is pretty limited does NOT diminish my recommendation at all! From the famous, huge pieces of garlic chicken (smothered in amazing garlic sauce), to the Loco moco, to the home made potato mac, to the DELICIOUS fresh banana bread, you really can't go wrong!!! Oh yeah, and the portions are pretty big, too....1 dish really should be more than what anyone needs to eat in one sitting, though if you're Samoan-sized and crazy hungry, I could see someone downing a dish without too much trouble. The real benefit is that it's crazy close to Aloha Stadium and Pearl Harbor, so it's the PERFECT meal stop for before or after visiting either one! Do yourself a favor and at least try the korean garlic chicken and loco moco before you leave the island!!! ***Review #24 in the Yelp 30 in 30 Challenge!***

The lady knew us two were from out-of-town and gave us 2 small pieces of banana bread to sample. I ended up getting a big loaf of banana bread to go home with. Mom loves banana bread and I hope by the time I land home tomorrow, there will be still some left!

Love these hole in the wall plate lunch places. Don't leave w/ out some banana bread its super ono. Staff is very friendly, and I love the ambiance. Nothing bad to say about this place :)

We catered an office lunch this week: shoyu pork, Korean garlic chicken, fried mahi w/ tartar sauce, beef stew, Mac/potato salad, beautiful toss green salad with a light oriental dressing that came in a small squirt bottle (nice touch and white rice. The food was ono, ono, ono! And plenty of leftovers for the next day. So, what did we do? We ordered another catering order of beef curry to go with our leftovers! There were 15 people at both luncheons and we still have some leftovers for breakfast tomorrow! Im very impressed with their quality and presentation. It was packed up very nicely for Us too! Will cater from Wally's again!!!

  • Rocky R.

The good: Food is great and everyone is very friendly. The bad: auto service is a little on the high side. If you are looking for a place to eat breakfast or lunch and get the oil changed in your car or safety inspection all in one convenient location, this is your place.

Seriously amazing food! Love the banana bread! We were touring Pearl Harbor and took a break for lunch. yelp showed us Wally Ho's and we couldn't resist having lunch in a service station! My husband loved the locomoco, I savored the Korean chicken and the kids gorged themselves on French fries and banana bread. Great place and extremely friendly staff!

    (5)
  • David A.

Excellent. Found after a tourist trip to Pearl Harbor. GPS took us in a big loop to get there, but it was well worth it. The banana bread was the best my wife says she has ever had.

A garage and grill? I like! Two things you would not think would go together, but it works! The food here is pretty tasty and the staff are really nice and you feel like you've known them for years. Everything is quick and they have a good variety of choices on the menu. They also serve breakfast all day. I don't think they have dinner though. A lot of paleo friendly choices too. Great for when you are waiting for your car or wanting a quick good meal.

Great plate lunches. Came with a group of five, everyone ordered something different and loved their meal (shoyu pork, garlic chicken, chicken katsu, club sandwich, and an omelet). We also ordered two slices of the carrot cake to share and it was delicious!!

Wally Ho's Garage Rocks! I use them every year to get our cars inspected and whenever we get a flat. The service is great! I never have to wait and the workers are always super friendly and have service with aloha! Thanks Wally's - you guys da best!

  • Doug T.

A mom and pop garage (seriously... they can service your car there) with excellent plate lunch options. Hands down they have the best chicken katsu plate lunch on the island. Also, it doesn't hurt that the help is always friendly and prices are super reasonable given the large portions. Go to Wally Ho's (even if there is nothing wrong with your car).

  • Matt L.

Hands down the best grilled salmon I've ever had. I've been to the area a handful of times on business and we always make the time to stop here. My co-workers strongly recommend the checken, but I just can't pull myself away from that grilled salmon! Unique setup (converted garage) and pretty small, but it does nothing to detract from the quality of food.

I've heard so many great things about this curiosity of a restaurant that I just had to try it based on all the positive word of mouth. Is it a restaurant? Is it a gas station? What exactly is it? But since I moved to the area recently I've been driving by a lot so I finally made the stop one day and ordered the Korean garlic chicken based on all its rave reviews. So how was it? Meh. I've had better. The chicken wasn't crisp and almost too soft, like it had been sitting out of the fryer for a while. The garlic sauce itself wasn't too bad but definitely lacked kick. The mac salad was merely average as well. Oh well, at least I finally tried this place and my curiosity is satisfied. I doubt I'll be going back again.

Connected next to a car repair shop, this is a hidden gem for food. We walked from the USS Arizona while we waited for our tour to start. Had Loco Moco for the first time. Amazing! A bed of rice covered with a burger patti, 2 eggs, and gravy. Delicious! Also had the homemade banana bread that was a must try!

Came here last week for the first time in 6 months or so, boy was I disappointed. Their Korean garlic chicken is still top notch, but I ordered their hamburger steak and the quality went plummeting down :( I hate for me to say this, but it was awful. I hope it was just an 'off' day. Wally ho's had made one of my top 3 favorite hamburger steak plates, so when I tried this new version I was extremely surprised. When I looked at it, the patties looked completely different. They were obviously frozen, and when I tried cutting it, I immediately noticed how tough and rubbery it was. The taste itself was absolutely terrible, I don't mean to be harsh, but it was that bad. They either make and freeze them or buy frozen patties (my guess), and you can tell. I've never had hamburger steak taste that tough and rubbery. Very disappointed. The gravy was also bland, not sure why they went away with what I thought was a perfect homemade hamburger steak plate lunch.

When I first got to Hawaii many years ago and I didn't know what the term "plate lunch" meant, I wish someone would have taken me to Wally Ho's Garage & Grill so I wouldn't have developed a negative connotation for the term. Sure, Wally Ho's was still a gas station back then, but my point is still valid: Wally Ho's Garage & Grill makes the "plate lunch" experience a positive one. Not many other places do so. Wally Ho's menu has a wide array of choices. Every one I've tried has been good. The service is limited but friendly. The prices are a little high, but not so much as to change my overall opinion of the place. I guess I'm willing to pay that little extra for the extra quality. Go get yourself a positive "plate lunch" experience at Wally Ho's Garage & Grill. It might just help adjust your impression of the "plate lunch". It has done so for me.

Came here when my dad had to get a safety check for his car. First off let me start off by saying that this place is not real big. This can get easily packed on a busy day leaving you to eat in your car. Besides that, it is a fantastic place to dine! I ordered the grilled salmon. I was a bit taken back by the price of $11 as you would expect it to cost $8.50 or so for a establishment this size. Decided to give it a go though. When I received my food, it looked delicious! The first bite definitely backed up what my eyes saw! The salmon was nice and moist on the inside and had a touch of crispiness on the outside; just how I like it! Lots of history behind this place and their service and food shows why they're still in business! If you drive by, stop by and try their food! You won't be sorry!

I live a few blocks behind Wally Hos and have been meaning to try them out for some time now. 2 friends of mine told me its a great place and the food is good.....Umm, its a GARAGE! A place where you take your car for an oil change and stuff like that. How can the food possibly be good? WELL, on the way home today I did a last minute turn into Wallys. (sorry to the cars behind me). From the outside it looks like an ole 1960s fountain complete with Coca Cola signs. But, to my disappointment.......no ice cream....I was looking forward to a nice banana split with fries and a coke. What I did find was a GREAT food place with an extensive menu that ranges from homemade hamburgers (for hamburger steak), Garlic Chicken, Beef stew, Grilled Salmon plate lunches to Grilled Pastrami, Chicken, Tuna melt, Fried egg, hamburger, Ham and Cheese sandwiches (just to name a few). Salads you ask? of course they have salads...Chef, Grilled Chicken, Grilled Salmon, Korean Garlic Chicken salads and of course MAC SALAD. Also, Saimin, French fries, chili cheese fries, spam musubis and more. we sat down with: a mixed plate (any 2 items). Garlic Chicken and Hamburger Steak. and Chicken Cutlet. Garlic Chicken was excellent. Hamburger Steak was perfectly cooked and indeed homemade with great tasting gravy. The Chicken Cutlet had a whole different gravy equally great. Portions are great. I had no room for ice cream....not that there was any. I think they should have a fountain with ice cream...ok, im just saying. back to the task at hand... AND they have homemade Banana Bread, carrot cake, lilikoi and lemon bars and Super Fudgey Brownies. All this makes me wanna bring in my car just so I can eat there again.

They dont make places like this anymore, literally an auto garage/diner. Ive known of this place for years but being that its not located in my little universe (town) Ive never stopped by until the other day. I came in early with a friend who lived in the area and we both didnt know what to expect. Its a really homely place that offers home cooked food. I got the feeling that we were the only ones in there that didnt work there..and we were, I also got the feeling that they knew it was our first time there, and they knew. The lady owner was very warm and welcoming, she said the fryer was not going to be ready for another 10 minutes which was a blessing because I was in the mood for fries. As much as I love fries, something about them being the first food into my body at such an early hour isnt my thing, pizza on the other hand is never vetoed. I ordered the chicken club w/bacon on wheat w/a toss salad. The club sandwich was a bit larger than I had anticipated, but it was entirely tasty. The lovely lady that took our order made small talk with us along with the other guys who were preparing for the day, we were the center of attention and didnt mind at all. She offered us a sample of her banana bread, lemon bars and chocolate brownies! I ended up buying the banana bread and giving it to my friends mom as a token of gratitude for picking me up from the police station when I was 11 and not telling my parents. I will gladly be forever indebted to her. Wally Ho's although an auto garage is very clean inside and has an old school atmosphere, a place you would see on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. They have an extensive menu, and I plan on coming here multiple times, they even asked our names when we first entered and addressed us by name when we left!

To be observant, by definition, is someone who is quick to perceive or notice. Well then according to the dictionary, I am quite the opposite. And why would I just insult myself? I've lived in Aiea my entire life. And for some reason I have never noticed Wally Ho's until I found it on Yelp. I've been driving by this joint on my way to work every day for a very long time but I never took the time to read the sign. What a mistake that was. We stopped in for lunch a few days ago and I couldn't help but think that the service station/restaurant wasn't a fit.. almost like it was out of place. But then I remembered my father telling me about places like these in the 'old days' so the thought settled in. As we looked over the menu, the lady at the counter asked us of this was our first time. We said yes, and she took the time to explain the most popular choices as well as the specials for the day. I went with the Korean Garlic Chicken since it was their most popular dish, and my girl got the seafood salad sandwich and sweet potato fries. Now I know why this place has such high reviews. The chicken was pretty damn amazing. Far better than Zippy's. I took a bite of her sandwich and that amazed me too. If these two items are this good, I can't wait to go back and try something else. Everything that I've read sounds great and with Yelp's help, the pictures on this site make me drool. I will definitely stop by here again sometime soon. I think the shoyu pork or the hamburger steak are calling me.

I had Lynn's Awesome Meat, $11.45, I must have had my expectations up too high, meat was tough, it wasn't awesome. next time I'll have the Korean garlic chicken or the loco moco.

The setting is diner-ish and homey. It cracks me up that there really is a garage and that their office desk is located inside the diner. The staff is friendly and talkative, making suggestions and telling us what their top sellers are. We ended up splitting the korean chicken salad; basically six pieces of korean chicken on a bed of romaine lettuce and some shredded cabbage. Sounds pretty unthrilling, but drizzle the oriental dressing on it (peppery...and homemade, I think) and BAM! instant yumminess! Of course, we split the entree but got our own desserts...one piece each, banana loaf and carrot loaf. While both of them were moist and exploding with flavor, my vote is for the banana bread. It is a slice of heavenly delicious bananas with just the right amount of sweetness. I am also a big carrot loaf fan and this carrot loaf was exceptional. There must be a secret spice in the mix that gave the bread the edge over all the other carrot loaf/cakes I've tasted in the past. It is definitely not your everyday spice cake. This is a big LIKE and I will visit again!

Big health scare recently and I needed to undergo a diagnostic procedure. Good news though, the best words you can hear from your doctor, "No cancer or other significant abnormalities". But,.... apparently, I need to eat more fiber. I thought I ate plenty already. Ok, I'll start tomorrow. For now, I was so starved due to fasting/liquid diet..... got to cure the hunger. Locomoco from Wally's, it really hit the spot, literally, a life saver.

We tried the shoyu pork and chicken cutlet. They both where excellent. The bf wished the pork had more sauce on it, but was really good. My chicken was moist and flavorful. The gravy was the bomb. Their potato/mac salad is great. The lady helping us was very friendly. She even gave us a sample of banana bread that they make themselves. It was so good. The best thing for desert is the carrot cake. Omg the best on the island. A hole in the was place but where else can you get an awesome meal while getting your car repaired. Give these guys a chance. We will be back.

Ate here today with a friend based on yelp reviews. Got the Korean Garlic Chicken and it was great! Super flavor, with a slight crisp. The portion was too large for me to finish but apparently you can get a mini plate. (wish I had known) The potato-mac salad was perfect and the rice was good too. Loved the atmosphere and the people were very friendly :)

Back again to the Garage for Korean Chicken and Carrot Cake! Still the best! Sometimes I wish I lived in HI, so I could say I got my oil changed while I ate my lunch at the Garage!

Yum, yum, yum. In my tum. The food here is delicious... and it's served in an auto garage. But from watching The Fast and the Furious multiple times, I've learned it's not all that uncommon. Ordering is a little confusing, and we kinda didn't know which counter to go up to. But it worked out in the end. The workers here are really nice and the service is great. I got the Korean garlic chicken salad, and my husband got a salmon sandwich. Both filled us up and kept us happy. Whatever they put in that dressing is like crack. I poured it all over my salad, which was a good mix of salad greens, lettuce and cilantro, and my husband used the leftovers on his sandwich. We both agreed that it was one of the best dressings that we've ever had. I'd give it a full five stars, since the food and service are great. But the parking seems like it can get kinda tight and it is a bit pricey. However, we'll still eat there because it's good to support local businesses and we love to eat. :)

Dearest Mama Buks, Today me and the Dad-sters went to go run his errands (more like he dragged me along). But he threw in a free lunch so it was worth it :) Who knew you can get your safety check AND lunch at the same place. Wally Ho, man, that guy was one smart fella. Korean garlic chicken....SO GOOD! What I liked the most bout the place, was that you could choose brown rice and tossed greens if you didn't want the mac salad. Good thing we went when it wasn't busy cause there's only 4 tables to sit at. But, we're on our way to go run more errands...yay :( Love Ya, kaibemi buks

Wally is one of those old-time mechanics that you know you can trust. I have taken my cars to Wally for about 5 years now. I have had consistently great service and have referred any one I can to him. He's fair, honest, and really does try to help you. For example, I purchased a used Miata. When I took the Miata to the dealer for the 35K checkup, the dealer told me I required over $2400 in repairs. I took my car to Wally and told him everything the dealer said. He could have easily told me that I required everything and I would have paid him...instead, he narrowed the list to about $250 and told me all the rest was good for at least another year/two. Sure enough, I owned the car for another 3 years and never had to replace the other items. He also fixed my truck latch for free one time while doing a safety inspection. Oh, and the food is good! ...especially the banana bread!

Lunch is great at Wally Ho's. I've tried the Salmon club sandwich and it was so good. The menu is that of a casual takeout style place with a few tables and chairs for dining-in. The staff is really nice and it almost feels like you're eating at your Aunty's house. We avoid the peak lunch hours 11-12 because the dining room is so small. They apparently still do auto-repair services too.

Can't say anything for the restaurant, but I won't be taking my car back. I preface this by saying that taking our car in to get it fixed is about as much fun for me as an apendectomy, but my husband has one of those job things so he can't go in during the week. Called yesterday to set up an appointment--they don't take them but he said they open at 7 so just to bring it on in. Well, I can't be there at 7 as I have to take my son to school but I got in around 9. I had to get something on my exhaust fixed for my pre-inspection to get Hawaii tags. I'm accustomed to waiting at a car dealer while I wait for the work to be done. I figured this would be the perfect place to do so as it has the restaurant attached. Well, I dropped off my keys and he said "I'll call you." I was like you won't have to call me because I will be sitting right here, reading a book while my baby sleeps. He told me the mall was about 1/2 mile away and I could walk to it (it's actually 2.3 miles away, I mapped it on my phone). It was obvious he didn't want me to wait while they looked at it. So I decided to go for a walk with my baby in her stroller. Then came the rain. And my cashmere scarf that I use as a blanket got stuck in the stroller tires and got mud all over it. And Kamahameha Highway is not exactly what I would call "pedestrian thoroughfare" perfect for a stroll with an infant. This is not going well. So I booked it back to Wally's and my baby was a little fussy--nothing big, just a little tired. Wally basically told me not to wait there because of my baby. Come back tonight and drop off your keys in the mail slot so we can look at it tomorrow. What? Really? A. Mention that I need somebody to pick me up when I call and try to make an appointment. B. Why can't you be like any other autoshop I've ever been to and take a look at it, give me an estimate on time/cost and then let me decide what to do? C. What is the point of being attached to a restaurant if you can't really wait in there while my car is being worked on? EPIC FAILURE in auto repair!

This review might be unjust because when I went in they were ready to close but were happy to feed me. I didn't really order my meal it was the easiest thing for them to make. They gave me the beef stew. It was delicious but disappointing. 3 pieces of meat and a box full of potatoes and carrots. i have to admit the sauce and rice alone is worth it. I will be back. with that said I'd recommend this place to my friends.

  • Sparkles S.

The food I would give 4 stars. I had the beef stew and rice. Big chunks of carrots are beef are what I like best. However, service for the auto shop the the total opposite. I suppose he's the owner of the garage part. I give it ZERO stars. He is very abrupt and rude. He doesn't take appointments as it is first come first serve. When I came I asked him how long it would be for me to be served next. It was too long of a wait for me so I said I'd come back another day. He rudely cut me off mid sentence and said "ok bye" and shook his head. I will NEVER come back to this place to get my car serviced. Such a shame since the grill shares the same spot and they have excellent customer service. He should learn how to smile from them since he stares at them all day.

Delicious plate lunch-style diner. This place gets busy during the lunch hour, so it is best to get there a little before or after 12 pm to avoid the lunch rush. I would recommend the Okinawan pork or Lynn's meat. I've also had their loco moco, which they've been commended for (tasty, but I prefer Moke's in Kailua for the best loco moco on Oahu). Be sure to grab a slice of their homemade carrot cake from the drink cooler adjacent to the counter. They make it in-house and it is very good. We've also taken our car there for breaks and found the mechanics to be both honest and efficient.

Oh man its been a while since i reviewed but this is worth making one. First of all the place looks scary!! who in the world will eat at a garage?? How can the food be good at a garage?? They are only good at fixing cars rite!!!! WRONG!!!! this place has one of the very best food on the island food so good it will make you feel like a child all over again. The linzie beef tips and roast beef are to die for. So tender and so fresh tasting you crave to buy another plate. The famous garlic chicken was also very delicious but i wished i had the sauce on the side cause it was little too overpowering for my taste. The portion seems small but once your almost done you will feel the pain. The food here is very very good and living here in hawaii for a long time, i rate it as one of the very best plate lunch places on the Island. If you are from hawaii or just visiting you will not be disappointed go now cause you will regret it. DONT FORGET THE BANANA BREAD!!!!!

Stop by for some take out after reading all the great reviews. Fast service and the place was really clean being that its also auto shop. The Garlic chicken was great. Mac salad great. While waiting for my food the mechanic told me my safety check had expired and said he could do it while i wait. I had to run so now i have 2 reasons to go back. The Food and safety check.

Driving into Aiea and you could pass right by this establishment. Ive eaten and had my car serviced here before. I remember when Waynette (since passed) used to be on the stove. She also could give you great tips on wine.....which they used to sell. I love there mac salad, which they give you the option of taking with any plate. The Korean chicken is favorite. Just remember that the garlic does linger on you. The auto repair side is great too. No appointment necessary, you can just drop your car off in the morning and he will complete by days end. They are honest and calls you before any work is performed. There is no surprises at the end.

Cute little diner on Kam hwy. This place had decent reviews and it's just down the street from my house so we went to check it out. We ordered the Korean garlic chicken, it didn't have that overly garlic flavor that I love. But it was ok. It was a little pricy at $10. I did hear the microwave go off like someone else had said in a review and of course when I heard it I just had to look. It was rice that they were warming up in a ziplock bag. I'm thinking they probably don't have a big rice cooker or something or maybe they don't have a rice cooker in there :-/ Overall, it was just okay.

Wally is a genius! Fix your car while we fix your lunch. Instead of walking around the body shop with arms crossed and a smug look on your face, why not sit down and grind on Lynn's special meat! I'm not sure about the auto service, but the food fixed a smile on my face. I tried the okinawan shoyu pork here. Why not the special meat? Because the pic provided by a fellow yelper was indelibly transfixed into my mind as my coworkers and I made the trip over here. I would not be denied my shoyu pork goodness (sneer of determination etched on my face as I write this). Verdict? The shoyu pork was ONO! It came out a bit dry, may have been marinated too long (granted we were a way late lunch), but the meat was still easy to eat and flavor packed! With two scoops of rice and a tossed salad, I was serviced very well by Wally's crew. What made the trip more enjoyable, the staff was very friendly, stopping to talk with us as we waited for our food. I am definitely coming here again to have some of the special meat, possibly with my safety inspection haha. P.S. Not a lot of parking. Beware.

I can't even begin to discuss all the contradictions that this place presents to me. The obvious one is "garage and grill?" The other being "healthy plate lunch?" I suspect Wally Ho's Garage and Grill is an oft skipped locale when driving to the Pearlridge area even though it is one of the first places that one comes to after leaving the freeway. I'd recommend stopping in one day. The food is reasonably priced . You can have tossed greens or mac salad. They have all of the standard plate lunch fare as well as some nice alternatives e.g. grilled salmon salad. I had a dish that was modestly named "meat" or something generic like that, but is was a nicely marinated little piece of beef that had really great balsamic flavor. However don't get me wrong I really like their, decidedly unhealthy, option of Spam musubi too. I don't know why, I guess because it's pretty fresh and has good proportion of rice to Spam. Perhaps not surprisingly,I discovered this place because I have my vehicle serviced there, (they are good at that too but that's another review.) So it's a good place to get an oil change or a safety inspection because their waiting room serves really good food. And the wine they have for sale is good too, geez another contradiction, a plate lunch place that also sells good wine. (to be clear they don't have a liquor license so you have to stand up and walk to the refrigerator and pull out the bottle yourself and open it yourself and all that and I've never had wine with lunch so I'm only assuming that they'll allow it) They also cater. THE AUTO REPAIR PORTION OF MY REVIEW As mentioned Wally's was a garage first and a gas station even before that. When I lived in the area I took my heap down there any time it needed it. And when I moved miles and miles away I still took my heap to get it repaired. There are a couple of things that are good about Wally's. First they are on Kamehameha Hwy, which made it great for me because many City Buses go past it which means that I can just about take any bus that is coming or going to downtown and it will pass Wally's; very convenient. With the exception of the time I had my tranny rebuilt, my heap was always repaired the same day. Usually in fact, by the time I get to work I have a voice mail telling me what was wrong and how much it would cost. Amazing. Fair warning, the mechanics are not much for small talk and they really don't like the customer's telling them what is wrong with the car. I I guess most mechanics are like that. I eventually learned that lesson. Ultimately they are good guys, priced competitively, do quick work and of course there is good food there too.

I go back here every time i am in Oahu.... The food never disappoints and is always filling. NOT diet food, and NOT low cal, but always good. If you still have room i highly suggest a piece of the banana bread! or buy some to take with you!

After driving by Wally Ho's for all these years, I finally decided to stop by and check it out. They have quite an extensive menu of standard plate lunch fare to go along with a specials board to make ordering a not so easy process. Upon finding out you can make a 2 choice mix plate, I place my order of Lynn's Special meat, which is a Tri-Tip Steak marinated in 16 different seasonings and chicken katsu. The verdict? ONO!! The steak was cooked as ordered, medium, and full of flavor to which the 16 seasonings did not detract away from the meat itself. The katsu was also really good! Made the way I like it, with no skin and it looks like they use the breast which I find does not make the dish extra oily! Ahhhh, sooooo good! You can also choose between tossed or potato mac salad, I chose the latter. It was really good and not your typical mayonaisy mush that comes with most plate lunch places. Wally Ho's will now be a must visit on a regular basis for me, especially since I have all these years to catch up on. A definite place to visit if you are passing through the area!

Good tasty local food but a little pricey - $10 combo with garlic chicken and meatloaf. However it was a real salad- healthy greens, not iceberg. What made it really special was the great service and free homemade banana bread for our 3 year old. I would go again to sample more of their menu items!

i have never had anything bad here. my faves? fried saimin and korean garlic chicken. they also have a catering menu, and i have catered from them for work and home. they are prompt, friendly, and accomodating. i have never had to wait for anything, and the quality control is great. try them out - you won't be disappointed!

Jerry J. pretty much covered it ... Be aware: from the outside it doesn't look like much. You should see the looks on the faces of people when I take them here for the first time, "I'm going to eat at a garage?" It reminds me of the line in National Lampoon's Vacation when Clark says, "I'm so hungry I can eat a sandwich from a gas station." BUT ... this place is beyond AWESOME. The best plate lunch I've had since moving here four years ago. Local or Haole they treat you like royalty and their food, especially the banana bread is amazing. My faves are Lynn's Awesome meat, Korean garlic chicken and Okinawan shoyu pork and the banana bread, have I mentioned the banana bread???????? I always go for the mac/potato salad in place of the tossed salad, but my husband always gets the tossed salad and it's very yummy too.

Wow! I've passed by many times thinking it was just another Aiea garage. Boy was I wrong, Wally Ho's is cranking out some local and some pretty awesome gourmet cuisine from their kitchen! ATMOSPHERE: - Very cozy! Anyone will feel right at home upon entering pictures lined walls, a mini refridgerated case of homemade sweets, and dining tables scattered throughout. - Although its a garage, the sanitation is impeccable! Clean, mopped, and tidy! SERVICE: - Family run operation, so everyone is receiving that warm, aloha hospitality. FOOD: - Fried Ahi Poke: My gosh! Melt in your mouth! Sushi grade poke is simply fried in inamona, and a few other oils that just explode in your mouth! Onions had the perfect bite, ogo, green onions, and everything you find in poke is present and amazingly simple yet "broke da mout". The serving size is hefty and comes with a side of fresh greens or mac salad. I highly, highly reccommend you stop at Wally Ho's!

I spoke to the same man on the phone twice in regards to my car that needed to be looked at and he was rude and abrupt BOTH times. I don't know how the food is since I never made it in there, and probably never will, but hopefully it's better than their attitudes. If I could give it no stars I would.

Ok so I might be a little biased but this place rocks...a small family run business. Lemon and Lilikoi bars are the best I've ever had. My personal favorite is the Lyn's Awesome Meat, 18 different ingredients in the marinade and grilled to perfection. I don't think there is another place in the world where you can get a safety check for your car while eating a delicious meal. It's also a plus that you can get white or brown rice, and potato/mac or tossed salad. The oriental and miso dressing is homemade and awesomely good!! Prices are reasonable, about the same as the rest of the plate lunch places, but the food at Wally's is a cut above the rest!!

Heard about this place from a friend and since I had some family members with me I suggested we try it out for lunch. Gotta support the locally owned places as much as possible! Just park in front - they told us it was okay. It is a nice place with old fashion decor and the lady that served us was very polite. I liked that they ask you if you want 1 or 2 scoops of rice, most of the time it may be too much for certain diners. I had such a hard time deciding what to eat so I went with my plate lunch "benchmark" and got the hamburger steak. It was good, but it's almost as if I could taste the metal from the grill, and didn't quite satisfy my craving. My aunty had the Korean style chicken and that was great! The Okinawan shoyu pork had generous portion of pork but it didn't seem to have much of the shoyu flavor that I'm accustomed to from other places. Overall it was good but nothing to rave over - I can see whay the Korean style chicken is their #1 seller. I will go back though and try some other dishes like the sandwiches that sounded very yummy. P.S. - the banana bread was ono

I just moved to hawaii and had a horn problem with my car. Wally and Sung were frank and gave me a reasonable price. They could have easily led me to pay more and have my horn and airbag replaced but they fixed the mechanism without replacing anything. I would give 5 stars but i have only been here once. So far i am more than satisfied and happy with there service.

Interesting concept garage and restaurant. Can't say anything about the garage but food definitely works. Suprised of the menu with local favorites, sandwiches and desserts. The owner used to drop off food to our office and she remembered me, maybe because I bought all her food. If you don't know what to order ask her and she will be happy to tell you. She said to try the chicken and I did...yum. Banan Bread is to die for! Gotta go to Wally Ho!!!!

I live down the street from Wally Ho's and after 2 years, finally tried it out today. I had a loco moco, banana bread, coffee and a brownie. The place was very clean and was crowded. My loco moco was standard and the "Wally Ho Famous Banana Bread" was ok. My brownie was probably the highlight of my meal and it was also just ok. All in all, my first impression of Wally Ho's is that it is just OK. Nothing spectacular, but would you really go to an auto body shop for spectacular grinds? I would explore the other items on their menu in the future and may have to update this review. Anyway, I support local places so I will be returning to Wally Ho's.

If I could eat plate lunches every day, I would go to Wally Ho's every day. There is such a variety between salads, sandwiches and plates (every day there are daily specials, like Pot Roast or Shoyu Chicken) that I would never tire of the menu. My current favorites are the Korean Garlic Chicken Salad and the Kalua Pig sandwich. And everyone must get a homemade dessert. I love the red velvet and the banana bread. This is a gourmet plate lunch at a great price. Everyone should go!

Gosh-I pass this place whenever we're in town and always wondered how good the food would taste. Believe me, it was yummy! I had the Okinawan shoyu pork plate and hubby had the Korean garlic chicken. What's so nice, is they give you a choice of white/brown rice as well as mac/green salad. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was really comfortable. We talked to Wally and his daughter-super nice folks. After the meal, they even offered a slice of the just baked banana bread to try out. You gotta check this place out!!!

I've been stopping by Wally Ho's to eat for many years now. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. (If you get a different impression, then you'd better check your attitude at the door.) The food has always been awesome!!!!... Breakfast is quick and simple, yet delish... now when it comes to their regular plates... yikes!!! I can NEVER decide what to get... thus the decision on the mix plate... they are very accomodating with the mix items and they are still VERY GENEROUS with the portions. So of course I end up with leftovers... which I gladly eat again for dinner.

their banana bread is soooo tasty! soft, moist, and buttery! i will return mostly for that. other than that the shoyu pork was kinda dry and not very flavorful. the korean chicken was good. the people here are nice and helpful. i can't stop thinking about their banana bread! that alone is worth 5 stars!

This was the most authentic and reasonably priced meal we had on Oahu. Five people (4 of them guys) all had lunch and sodas for around $50. My kids said the cheeseburgers were good, and I was really stoked with the kalua pig and rice. It's a definite go to after a visit to Pearl Harbor!

I love Wally's! The food is great! So well prepared by a lovely family that really put their hearts into it! It's clean and the people there are sooo nice and caring! It's a little bit pricey but well worth it for the quality and effort put into it. It also takes a little while (good things come to those who wait!) so either call your order in or be prepared as they cook your order for you. They also have a nice collection of knick-knacks to reminisce over. If your into wine they have a nice array to choose from. They have also added desserts to their shop. Their spam musubi is one of the best I have tried. They have daily specials and a regular menu. I really like their Kalua pig & cabbage! They also have fountain drinks as well as canned and bottled drinks and liqour, snacks and cigarettes too!

After visiting the Pearl Harbor Memorial,we desperately needed food. A quick data base check yielded several choices close by. But, garage and grill? Four stars? We were intrigued. We almost missed it,doubled back, and pulled into the parking lot for, yes, an actual ,busy garage. Inside, we found a simple, tidy and clean little restaurant with Formica tables and chrome chairs. The menus is up on a chalkboard above the counter, and included Hawaiian and Asian choices, breakfast choices and quite a few daily specials ranging from blackened ahi to spaghetti with meat sauce. Our group of three opted for Korean garlic chicken,Lees amazing meat, and Shoyu pork plate lunches. The food was, in a word, the best plate lunch ever. The amazing meat,a marinated tri tip steak, was perfectly medium rare and delicious, the Shoyu pork was tasty and the chicken was absolutely succulent. There was a choice of white or brown rice, the macaroni salad was fresh and house made, and the house special banana bread was worth every calorie. Service was attentive, and personable, prices were reasonable. All in all, this place is a thoroughly satisfactory cafe. I would have awarded a fifth star, except that the readership tends to expect a bit more of a production for that rating.

I go back here every time i am in Oahu.... The food never disappoints and is always filling. NOT diet food, and NOT low cal, but always good. If you still have room i highly suggest a piece of the banana bread! or buy some to take with you!

If you can't find it, it's right next to the garage. I love this place! Get the Korean Garlic chicken

Jerry J. pretty much covered it ...

This place is so unassuming but the food is outstanding! We had the cheeseburger w/ sweet potato fries & the Korean Garlic Chicken...and we practically licked our plates clean! Generous portions and friendly service. It won't be long until Triple D shows up!

Awesome place to eat. Garage service is the best on the island.

Everyone should go!

their banana bread is soooo tasty! soft, moist, and buttery! i will return mostly for that. other than that the shoyu pork was kinda dry and not very flavorful. the korean chicken was good. the people here are nice and helpful. i can't stop thinking about their banana bread! that alone is worth 5 stars!

Korean galric chicken is a must have and you can't forget to get one of their pastries - whether it's the lilikoi bar or carrot cake or banana bread, you can't go wrong. On top of the great food, you always feel welcome there!

Today they forgot to turn on the fryer but I don't care. Almost any amount of waiting is worth it. Best plate lunch ever. Staff is super friendly and they remember you. A seriously awesome small town experience in the middle of Oahu's hustle and bustle.

Been coming here for years, they treat me like I'm a part of their big, wonderful family. Their food is more like eating a home cooked meal rather than a simple plate lunch. The menu is comprised of mostly local basics but everything is good and made with love.

The good: Food is great and everyone is very friendly. The bad: auto service is a little on the high side. If you are looking for a place to eat breakfast or lunch and get the oil changed in your car or safety inspection all in one convenient location, this is your place.
