I eat here almost everyday for breakfast. Hotcakes, link sausage, portugese sausage, fried rice. Take your pick, all Really good stuff!!!! Wide selection of local and korean food, i usually try to go through the whole menu but the old faithfuls hamburgersteak or loco moco keeps me full. Vegetable stir fry is pretty good too!!

Owner, Kevin(??), is just wonderful. Their mandoo soup is da bombz. He adds bbq meat on it so it's very filling along with veggies. Ono ono ono. He has spoiled me with this fab dish that no other Korean restaurant can measure up on this dish. I no longer work in that area so I really really miss it.His fries are fab too - the portion is huge and it also tastes so ono. I do have a thing about hamburgers that use fillers, i.e. not 100% beef. I notice some fillers have a sour taste and others do not.Unfortunately they use the sour tasting one, otherwise their deluxe burgers would be fabulous-o too. But that's the only 'sour note'

Great food, great prices, and friendly service, gives this place four solid stars. Im a fan of their yook gae jang (sorry if I misspelt it). Parking can be a real pain so try and carpool when you can.

An adventure to find for the first time. But an oasis for a meal in the industrial (and penitentiary) valley.

No one said that finding Halawa Korean BBQ would be easy, but these guys are practically hiding themselves on purpose! You need to go up a ramp and then to a nondescript building in the rear before you'll even see their sign. There's nothing wrong with a bit of a search though as long as there's delicious food as the prize. Does Halawa Korean BBQ deliver the goods? Let's eat. SPICY PORK I'm a sucker for good spicy pork. You just can't go wrong with thin slices of charred meat covered in a spicy sauce. Is there a better combination? First the good: The meat was tender and the portions were large. Unfortunately, that's where things begin to fall apart. The meat was also fatty and stringy and practically devoid of any charring. The final nail in the coffin was that Halawa Korean BBQ's spicy pork had very little spice to speak of. Pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/hala… CONCLUSION: Not charred, not spicy. Not for me. BBQ CHICKEN While it's beyond my understanding, not all restaurants serve spicy pork, so BBQ chicken is my backup. Life is hard. Like the spicy pork, the BBQ chicken was nice and tender. Unfortunately, also like the spicy pork, the BBQ chicken was in need of a major dose of charring to break out of "standard plate lunch" class and into "Korean BBQ" class. Additionally, the marinade was rather bland. I wouldn't be surprised if it was simply shoyu. Pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/hala… CONCLUSION: A 1 on the IBBSBCG (International Bob's BBQ Scale of BBQ Chicken Goodness). FRIED MAN DOO Why do I do this to myself? I see "fried man doo" on the menu and I cannot help but hope that it'll be the real deal. More often than not, I set myself up for disappointment. Unfortunately, Halawa Korean BBQ's fried mandoo is not the real deal. This is thin-skinned gyoza-style mandoo that looks like it came straight from Palama Market's freezer section. Pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/hala… CONCLUSION: Standard gyoza-esque fare. Pass on this if you're looking for something more substantial. SERVICE The service at Halawa Korean BBQ was EXCELLENT. The guy who took our order was super nice and made sure to point out the courtesy cups for water without even being asked. CONCLUSION The main issue with Halawa Korean BBQ is primarily in their naming. As a plate lunch place, it actually crushes the likes of L&L. However, when you're calling yourself a Korean BBQ, you are putting yourself in a completely different weight class. Unfortunately, Halawa Korean BBQ just does not stand up to the competition. Simply put, they have many of the menu items you would expect at a Korean BBQ spot, but what you get is more akin to your standard plate lunch place. Go in with this expectation and you'll be much less likely to be disappointed. I don't worry for Halawa Korean BBQ though. They had a steady stream of regulars from the area coming in and ordering lunch. The great service and large portions will surely keep them coming back for more.

This place is an adventure to find! You will probably end up cursing at your GPS. It is up a small ally that looks like you are entering an industrial complex. To say it is no frills would be like saying Chipper Jones was an ok baseball player. But if you get past all of that, the food is great and that's what you came for anyway.

The food is great. I love their fish jun. The owner is super chill and likes to say "Only for you" If you have any especial request, he's usually cool about it. I only ate here because I was working in the area and there were't many other options, but this place rocks in general. Beats out alot of other popular Korean BBQ places I know. I would definitely make an effore to stop by on my way to Aiea.

This is a hole in the wall place but the food is amazing. By far one of the best local korean plate lunches in hawaii. The mac salad is amazing and doesn't taste like the typical ones you get at other places. and the owner is very nice, prices are very reasonable.

Good thing the only place to eat in the valley is a good one. My only problem with this place is that they run out of specials, and they aren't open late. Other than those two flaws, the food and service are awesome.

If you are ever in Halawa, and are feeling the rumbly in your tummy, you don't have a lot of choices. I just wanted a small, savory snack, so Halawa Korean BBQ it was, for some mandoo. Really friendly service, good breakfast menu, and of course, nice Korean options. I ordered 6 pcs. of mandoo for only $2.99. It was more like potstickers, but I liked it. It was crispy and tasty, good enough for me! If you are expecting REAL mandoo, do not order this. If I was hungry, I would have ordered a breakfast plate, they guys who were eating breakfast there looked very happy with their food, and it sure smelled good. This place is at the very top of a tall ramp, in the middle of a bunch of other industrial businesses. It's pretty hidden so I suggest you click on that handy dandy map on your yelp ap.

Good spot. I work below so when I'm busy I know I can always count on good food in a pinch. I usually get haole food like a BLT with a fried egg and french fries. The french fries are really good here. I also like the mandoo dumplings. They make them right here. Chicken katsu was good. Mac salad good. Pepsi products. You name it. It's not pretty inside but that's not important to me.
