My husband took me to Benton Lee's because he remembered it as being AWESOME. We went 8/17/13. The place was not over run, walked in got a table very quickly. Eventually a server came by the table and asked if we wanted something to drink.. we ordered two beer's and waited forever. When she finally came back, she brought them .. unopened and just set them on the table and was about to walk off and we asked for an appetizer . Thought the gator tail sounded amazing..a long while later, there were two empty bottles on our table and she brought out a plate with a paper towel on it.. and 10 chunks of gator... I have chewing gum that did not stay chewy that long! I ended up giving up on trying to eat it! We finally asked for a six pack because we saw our waitress so infrequently. When our steaks came out they were HUGE.. looked great.that is the only good thing I can say.. they were chewy, tough.. no flavor.. I did not ask for a to go box.. I would not even take that home to my dogs! When I got up to go to the restroom, my husband got up to pay the bill and being a good husband.. he got me the t-shirt I asked for when I walked in.. $109.00 later we walked out still hungry.. with a $20.00 cleaning rag because I will not wear that shirt in public.. I will not advertise for them any more than possible! But amusingly enough they do have a face book page and when I posted a nicer version of this on their page... the owner chose to block me and delete my post.. never offered any apology for the miserable experience.. If you are thinking of going to Benton Lee's for food any time soon.. your hard earned money will be better spent at McDonalds!

Biggest steak I've ever had in my life and was very tender. The plate was literally about 12 x 24 inches and the steak was about 12x 12 inches. Down home get your own drink and sit down and eat your steak place. Definitely would go again. Locals told me about it for years and I finally tried it. When you are near Vidalia, GA you must stop in.

my first trip and will not go back. steaks are big but that is where it ends. Poor service, received cold and undercooked steak (ordered medium), sent it back, got another smaller steak back that was overcooked and full of gristle. Told waiter about it with no help. Told owner about it with no help, no discount, no apology. unbelievable. Our friends had froglegs that were very dry. Other friends say this is a real hit and miss steak place. We wont be back, overpriced, poor service, poor quality.

We have been to this place several times. Since the new owners moved in it hasn't been great. We went to eat with family this past Saturday Me and my wife ordered a 14 oz ribeye steak everyone els got the sirloin ...It took a little bit to come out. We order the quail which was great very very good but Once we got our steaks Mine was literally 95% fat I took a picture Listen I'm a steak water and I don't mind fat but this was very disappointing and it was under cooked at what I asked for medium well. My wife's steak had about 70% white fat on it she got medium well and it almost looked raw. She sent it back and still was medium rare but she was a trooper and tried it. My brothers one said there steak was good and the other brothers was very tough and his wife's steak was rough My sisters and mom was great . I don't know what was going on ! My brother paid his bill He got 4 quail 2 sirloin for him and his wife 68.00 He had a question about the bill and the lady was very unhappy he asked a question as to how much the quail was because it said market price. I don't know if it came across as complaining but I was there and my brother didn't sound rude or like he was complaining. Mine and my wife's ribeyes was 48.00. As far as customer service we got the vibe that everyone hates their job and they didn't care if they had our business Which is sad because we use to love the place. The past two times we went weren't great like the first couple of times when the new owner ran it so we will be going other places to eat next time ! Hope this helps

It is what you expect to find in the middle of nowhere. If you want a steak this is the place to go, great view on the river. nice and clean inside. plenty of tea. It is simple nice big portions of meat. Personal fav is the hamberger steak with gravy and onions. Dont go here for a salad your not going to be happy. Gator nuggets are good catfish is good, wasn't a fan of the tiny shrimps. check it out why not. its better than mcdonalds.

This was my first trip to Benton Lee's. First off let me say that I was disappointed by the steak selection available. When you call yourself a steakhouse I expect an appropriate selection of steaks to be available. However what I found was that if you don't like either a T-Bone or Sirloin your out of luck. No Rib-eyes, No Filet's, No Porterhouse. Only T-Bone or Sirloin. My second disappointment was when I asked for my steak to be very very rare. I was informed that all steaks MUST be on the grill for a MINIMUM of seven minutes. You cannot cook a steak for 7 Min's and it be Very Very Rare. The restaurant only has a beer\wine license which is no big deal for me. However our server was actually to young and therefore unable to serve us beer or wine so anytime someone needed a drink she had to get another server to bring the drink over to the table. Not a big deal but it was a distraction. Having said all of the above my T-bone had a good charcoal flavoring when it came to the table and it was Rare though not as rare as I normally prefer my meat. Their forks & knives are somewhat wanting. It was difficult to cut my steak with the steak knife provided so I ended up using my pocketknife (I know how redneck that sounds). Also my fork broke in half while I was cutting on my meat. Go Figure. Some of our table ordered a gator tail appetizer which was a little to salty and so I wasn't impressed with that or the consistency of the meat its self. So, the next time I'm in the area and want a steak, You'll probably find me over at J&B's in Vidalia and not at Benton Lee.

You have got to experience a real South Georgia gem - where else can you sit on the Altahama river gnoshing on gator tail nuggets and have a delicious precision cooked side of a bovine brought to you? Forget about Bones - you gotta try the real deal in Uvalda!

Everyone around here thinks Benton Lee's is the greatest thing since sliced white bread. Ummm...No. Sure, the steaks may be enormous, but they are cheap, tough cuts. The "salad" is a pathetic gesture...wilted iceberg lettuce with a sealed cup of food service dressing. All the "servers" do is take your order and bring your food. You get your own drinks and your own refillls. The baked potatoes, fries and onion rings are the best things on the menu. The whole experience, as a customer, is rather cattle-esque. One feels as if one is being herded in, fed, and herded out. It's a shame, really, because the location is gorgeous and it's a fun little road trip to drive there. Note to owners: please do better. And you can stop with the Ellie Mae Clampett photos. Nobody cares that she visited your restaurant 10 years ago.

Sad to say . The worst steak I've ever had. Cool location off the beaten path. They told use the new owner (nice lady) promised to keep it the same but I never visited it prior so I can't compair.the steak was just flat out tuff and over cooked. I got there quote best steak a ribeye but I believe it was a butt steak if you know what I mean.it really has potential but it will be hard to risk taking my biker friends all that way and risk it being an embarrassment. Sorry no picture I way too busy chewing and chewing and chewing! !!

This place is located on the Altahama River and has the best steaks and burgers in the area. Don't get me wrong the food is very good but there are very limited choices in the Vidalia area. It may be a little difficult to find for out of towners to find but it is worth the trouble, any local will tell you that. They have some unusual items on the menu so maybe try something unique.
