My friend kept on raving about the peach muffins. I finally made it here after a failed muffin mission due to an inaccurate Google Maps incident. I don't think there are any locations near downtown. So, don't believe Google Maps! I sat down for lunch and immediately demanded a peach muffin while I perused the menu. The muffin was light and fluffy. They were sized like a grade-school birthday homemade cupcake. I wish there were huge chunks of peaches, or something. I had a single serving of the country fried steak, which was excellent. I had sides of the corn nuggets and fried green tomatoes. Service, as expected, was excellent. So was the speed of the food. If you like all you can eat deals, they have a different deal every day of the week. I went on a Wednesday, $11.95 for AYCE fried chicken AND country fried steak. Killer.

Great pulled pork sandwich! Peach cobbler was disappointing, more cobbler than peach in my serving. I will stop in again though!

I love this place. The food is so good and cheap. I can't believe people don't like it. Good southern cooking.

When you think folks, think Fried Green Tomatoes. Folks used to be known back in the 80s and 90s as "Po'Folks" and was a bit more widespread. But somewhere around the late 90s they went bankrupt. Somehow this made them "lose their po" as all the locations outside of the Atlanta area were shut down. Needless to say, as a childhood frequent I missed my Augusta Folks (which is now a HORRIBLE Chinese restaurant) So when I found out I had a Folks right down the road from me in 2 locations (Hiram and Douglasville) I was ecstatic. Whats good here? Hrmm, whats not good here? Traditional southern food at its finest. Macaroni and Cheese, Corn, Fries, Baked Potatoes, Collards, Okra, Chicken, Fish, Shrimp... if it can be fried, its probably fried here. Its also available in Baked/Broiled for those of you who want to avoid having a heart attack. If my father were writing this, he would comment that the Peach Muffins are a MUST. As such I felt obligated to throw that in for those of you who like peaches. (I do not.)

Amazing! I don't prefer chains because of the rush to get customers fed and out the door, but I didn't sense that at all in Folks. The fried pickles are the best thing since sex. Haha. I ordered chicken tenders with a waffle. It was so good! The corn fritters and the fries were delicious as well. Not too greasy. If you go in, I recommend Dale. She is only off on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Best server I've had for the month(other than my own restaurant, of course xD).

If I could only leave half a star, I would. First, let me say that I've never walked out of a restaurant without leaving a tip... ever. But that is exactly how this horrible dinner experience ended. I will elaborate. We were greeted at the door with a smile and promptly seated by someone who, I'd guess by his attire was an on-duty manager. Our server arrived right away with menus and took our drink and appetizer order, which were all brought out quickly. Here is where the service took a HUGE turn for the worse. Even when delivering our appetizer, our server was surly- rolling her eyes and very brusquely answering our questions from the get go. When placing our entree orders my sister had a few questions about posted specials. The server gave terse responses, providing minimal information, while rolling her eyes in annoyance. She then stepped away to enter our order, standing about 8 feet away from our table, where we all clearly heard her tell another server about my sister's questions and call my sister "that stupid girl", while looking and laughing at her. Our food came out in a timely manner, but the server plopped the plates down on our table, without looking at us, or even saying a word. Didn't ask if we needed anything, didn't offer to refill our now empty drinks and didn't remove the dirty appetizer plate from the table. Let me add that the place was not busy, she was in no hurry and we are typically very easy to please customers. She had no excuse for her rudeness and lack of attention. She finally came back to refill our teas, again with no words spoken or eye contact made. I then asked for some cocktail sauce for my shrimp. She said nothing, didn't acknowledge me at all, turned and walked away to another table that had just been seated and proceeded to spend 12 minutes laughing, chatting and patiently taking their order. What was the difference in treatment due to?? She headed toward the kitchen coming out only minutes later to bring them a complimentary plate of peach muffins. Saw her do this to another table as well. Not us though. Again, what was the reason for the difference in treatment? A further 10 minutes later another server came by and handed me a whole squeeze bottle of cocktail sauce which I no longer needed as my shrimp were now stone cold and inedible. All of our teas were now totally empty again, and the gross appetizer plate was still on the table. Our server was nowhere to be found. She showed up a while later and again with no words spoken started removing the entree plates from my Mom and my sister, neither of which were finished with their food. My sister had ordered the all you can eat veggie plate and wanted to order her 2nd round of food. She told the server what she wanted and AGAIN with no words of acknowledgement, the server simply rolled her eyes, turned and walked away. As she was walking away my sister asked her to please bring us our check as soon as she had a chance. Nothing. Her food was again delivered promptly without word one or any type of acknowledgement. She didn't remove any of our dirty plates, offer to refill our teas or bring us our check as we'd asked. A few minutes later another server noticed the state of our table, was very kind to us and removed some of our dirty plates. We asked him to please bring our check as we'd already asked for it and been waiting over 10 minutes. We were all angry and upset by now. We could see our server laughing and playing around with her fellow employees behind the counter the whole time we were waiting. We saw the other, kind server approach her and remind her about our bill, watched her look at us and roll her eyes and proceed to finish her convo before preparing and bringing us our bill. And when she finally did show up with our bill she was all smiles and politeness. I was incensed!!!! I decided to pay in cash and while I was counting out my money she hovered intimidatingly over my shoulder, watching me intensely as I riffled through my wallet. I've never had a server make me feel the way this woman made me feel! As I was still getting the bill together she noticed my sister hadn't touched any of the food on her plate and in a very sarcastic and snippy tone said "Oh, were you too full?". Nope. "Not too full. I've just completely lost my appetite. " was her response. That last comment was the final blow to this woman's tip. I counted out exact change and handed it to the server without saying a word. She even had the nerve as we were walking away to ask me if I needed change! I could have screamed! But I didn't. If I thought it would have made any difference at all I would have complained to the manager. The worst part about this is I'm visiting my family from out of state... every meal is precious. I certainly don't expect perfection, but I DO expect common courtesy and a basic level of service. Also the management should know that this woman is costing them business. We couldn't leave fast enough! Never again!

Me and the girlfriend went there for dinner and we enjoyed all the food and the drinks. We didn't like that the food was all fried because it was just too much fried food. We are from the north and was told that the good southern cooking would be fried but it was just a little too much for us. Our waiter did not seem like he really wanted to be there and it showed with his attitude and professionalism. Overall it was an ok experience but I probably wont be going back if i am in the area again, it was a little expensive for the food.

been here twice now within the last month and a half and have to say the food is great - excellent large helpings and fried to perfection - the service tho has been hit and miss - first time almost made me not want to come back but tonight made me glad I did - my waitress was friendly and very prompt - the food did take a little longer to come out than I would have expected but it was hot when it arrived overall when staying up here for work this will probably be my go to place for dinner since it's just around the corner from the hotel - if you're in the area and like southern fried food give em a try...

I have died and gone home. Literally home to my mother's kitchen on Sunday. I had the fried catfish with greens and corn nuggets...all a divine experience. This food had me wondering who's grandma is in the kitchen, with her silk scarf and apron tied tight serving up soul food to wayward homesick children like me. I came in the door hungry, and left satisfied with a smile on me face. Oh and the peach cobbler was worthy to be praised. God bless Folk's.

Will it blow your sock off, probably not depending on what you order. But you will get a very good, very generous plate of food for a reasonable price. On this occasion I ordered the baked chicken and dressing. That is a whole half of chicken with dressing and two sides. I got the turnips, the brunswick stew and got an extra side of sweet potato casserole for $13.14 (tax included). I even got a sweet peach muffin for my bread. This meal alone will last me for at least 3 days. The brunswick stew side dish is a meal in itself. Next time I'll ask for extra gravy for the dressing. Great food, great prices, great restaurant. It's just good southern cooking.

The deal: Good southern food at decent prices. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant and saw dessert prices for less than $3! We were running some errands in the area and were in the mood for two things: Southern food, which I rarely eat so I wanted to make sure it hit the spot, and someplace new. Yelp came in handy, as usual, and directed us to Folks Southern Kitchen. The food was delicious, even if standard - and remember, you typically get what you pay for. I've had better ribs but their ribs were also good for the $13 we paid for them. It was a big portion too; we had leftovers. They have small plates (which come with one side) or platters (which come with two sides and a choice of bread). We sampled the corn nuggets, which, let's be honest, that's what drew me in. I don't know what it is about tasty, bite-sized food with corn in it, but I'm there! And they did not disappoint! We also tried the fried okra, potato salad and mac and cheese. The potato salad was standard to me. It tasted like something I could've picked up in the Publix deli section and I was hoping for something a little more unique, but it wasn't tasteless by any means. The okra and mac and cheese were yum! We had leftovers for all the sides too. The portions were big! I had fried chicken. Yes, I went in - two legs, two breasts, two sides, a sweet tea and peach muffin for less than $15. I'm not a big fried food person. I never have been, which is why I typically stay away from southern food, but don't be fooled into thinking I don't enjoy it when I'm in the mood. The chicken pieces were fresh and hot with a light breading. I could go for even more breading but I appreciated that they didn't overdo it. The chicken itself was moist and tender (and not greasy!) and everything went together perfectly, like a happy little family on my plate. Even hours later, when we had the leftovers for dinner, it still held up. The service was also wonderful! Our server was friendly without being cheesy or fake. She was attentive and didn't hesitate to give recommendations. Now, why not five stars if both my mouth and wallet were happy? The atmosphere was a little dark to me and it could be because it was a late Saturday afternoon, but the place was kind of empty with servers milling around everywhere. The floors and tables seemed clean but my guard was up because of the writing scribbled on the wall in the corner where my husband sat and the windowsill we were next to could've used a bit of dusting. The blinds had spots on them (splatters? I couldn't tell) and it looked like that area hadn't been touched in a long time. That just makes me raise an eyebrow, y'know? So if I could, I would've given 3.5 stars. In a nutshell, the food is good (but not stellar) and the service was friendly. It will hit the spot if you're in the area and are thinking of going the southern food route. They have quite a few choices on the menu for most anyone. Oh! And they recommended the peach muffin to me, supposedly one of their signature items. It was tasty but it was just a peach muffin to me, so...

Couldn't stand the heat. 77 degrees outside and it was HOTTER inside. I am not going to eat somewhere I have to wipe sweat off my brow before I even order my food. Very disappointed.

Fried chicken is to die for!! 4 pieces with two sides for less than $10. Enough for now and some for tomorrow. Biscuits are divine and peach muffins are a favorite as well! Bread to take home is 6/1.99, or 3/.99- great for next day breakfast:) NOM.

My review is both based on the food and service. First, my family and I stopped here after searching a few different soul food restaurants in our hotel area. We ordered the fried chicken, meatloaf, smothered steak, and open faced turkey sandwich. I do not usually give out 5 stars but this place honestly deserves all 5! All of the meat items were moist and full of flavor, and the sides were nicely proportioned, and also had plenty of flavor! Now on to our favorite part of dining at Folks, our server Kia, was fantastic! She was very helpful in recommending different menu items to my family and I. She listed all of her favorites and also the items that are ordered most often. Kia made us feel like we were at home in her kitchen because she was so personable, open and honest with us. If you happen to stop by ask for Kia, she'll make sure you have a great dining experience all while enjoying some great southern food.

First off I'd like to start with... I work in the restaurant industry. I was very impressed with the service here. As I was walking in, a man and a woman whom worked there opened both doors for me. As soon as I sat down I was greeted by a smiling young lady who brought me drinks and the appetizer I ordered. When my mom arrived, our server, Charles, came over immediately and offered to take our order. The food came out quickly, but my okra wasn't fresh and the baked potato was cold, but Charles immediately checked on us and brought us fresh ones. He was delightful throughout and very personable. When it was time to leave, he brought us to go boxes and offered me a to go drink as well as brought me a fresh side of remoulade to go. He cashed us out quickly and as we were leaving another employee on her way in held the door for us. It was the definition of hospitality. Thanks!

First time visiting. I order the catfish (2 fillets); they were fresh, meaty, and fried perfectly. My husband ordered the meatloaf and fried chicken (greedy). The meatloaf was huge and reminds you of your grandmothers meatloaf! The fried chicken was golden brown, juicy not dry, and the skin had the right amount of crisp! We both had mashed potatoes; they were good as well and the gravy on top made them so flavorful. Sweet tea was good & southern! Overall the food was great (hat off to the cooks), services was great (shout out to Rob), we will return soon & I need a nap!!!

I haven't been back to this Folks in seven or eight years. It took us that long to get the bad taste out of our mouths. I am glad, though, that we finally darkened the door once more. The food we had tonight was well prepared and tasty. Generous portions don't quite tell the tale. Mounds of food is more like it. I was afraid to order the chicken and I was right. I saw a plate go buy that would have fed Noah and half the animals on the ark. I had gizzards with white gravy. Could you think of a better death than that? I would never have thought to put those two together but I wasn't too ashamed to just start dunking. Well, my battery is almost gone, I'll stop now. Just let me say I saw a lot of quality meals coming out of the kitchen. I'll be back soon. All the best.

By far The Best southern food I've ever had!! everything was flavorful, fresh and downright delicious!!! They have a decent sized menu which makes it a little hate to pick just one thing. I am definitely a new fan and customer!!! A must go to!! I highly recommend the corn nuggets.

I usually stop in for a lunch to-go order. Folks is your typical southern fast food. Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Catfish and Peach Muffins are excellent!! Lunch usually has a rush or wait so I suggest calling in to place an order. The server at the front is very quick and gets it done.

I come from San Diego where there, we're known for Fish Tacos and lots of choices for the discernible palate...where my city comes up a bit short is in Southern Food. But this time, I'm in the ATL and my wife and I were looking to get some dinner and we popped up on Yelp to see what was close by...FOLKS was close by and well... It was Delightfully Delicious. We started with Sweet Tea and their Peach Muffins...YUM! Then on to the Roasted Turkey Dinner for the wife and Fried Chicken for me. More #WINNING going on...I got the plate(slightly smaller portions...but this is the South remember?) and the wife got the platter...think even bigger portions...this is still the South and the hospitality was gracious. Our server was real nice and we gave her an instax shot (think Poloraid pic) along with a good tip because she was that cool. THANKS FOLKS...it was so tasty.

Very impressed. I'm from California and spent the previous week staying at the double tree hotel for business and after getting tired of the hotel menu I decided to venture out side to see what I can find. I love to cook all types of food back home and spend every weekend at the grill cooking high grade meat Which has made myself a very picky eater due to my high expectations of how food should taste. After a week of eating out, FOLKS was a pleasant surprise from the older gentleman that took my order to the beautiful young lady that brought my food out and said "I made sure I put love in this order". That's exactly what I needed, being hundreds of miles away from my wife's amazing home cooking It was like having a little peace of security in the hidden ingredient I found in my food that night. A touch of something extra that little bit of something you just can't buy at a grocery store. A pinch of "love" thats what you will get in your first bite of what ever you order here. If it's something you like to eat back home then I'm sure you will like it here. And if this is home well I'm a tad bit jealous. Thanks "FOLKS" I'm sure I will be back before I leave Georgia.

This review is strictly for their carryout/catering service. I ordered the large Folks combo which comes with chicken fingers, country fried steak fingers and bbq ribs as well as the sauces for my birthday party. Since I was running around that day, dear SO was sweet enough to stop by and grab the food for me. However, when I got back home, I saw that there was only 1 tray that had about 10 pieces of chicken fingers inside. We rushed back to Folks to see if they just didn't give us the whole order. SO went inside and was told there wasn't a manager and that was the whole order. Even when we showed them the receipt for $70, all they could say was, well, if you give us 2 hours we can make your tray for you. 2 Hours??? for a few more appetizers?! They then shrugged and said, well, you can call back later. Needless to say, I was beyond pissed about this. How can I show up to my own party without some grub? I went back the next day and spoke to a manager. While I was informing him of the situation, an employee shouts from the kitchen no less that we were supposed to call them back and pick up the order. They then said that the order was never entered into the system, to which I pulled out my copy of the receipt and handed it to them. I asked them if that was the truth, then why was 1/3 of my order ready for pick up and the remaining 2/3 wasn't when "it wasn't entered into the system"? Of course they didn't have a good answer for this. I ended up getting a full refund, but needless to say, I probably won't be going back to Folks for catering especially when they messed up the order and then tried to call me a liar for it.

I've a long relationship with Folks. So long in fact, that I remember back when it was called Po' Folks and they served your drinks to you in a mason jar. After an absence of many years, I've returned to Folks more than a couple of times recently (it's a favorite with my family). For the price, they serve up a decent plate of Southern cooking. Their portions are large, the food is tasty, and service is generally pretty prompt. We last visited yesterday for Father's day. After an initial wait of 30 minutes to be seated, our food was served to us surprisingly quickly (and hot). I've sampled many things on the menu. Nothing stands out as particularly stellar, but everything is well made. The whole fried catfish is worth the try. Also, they have a tasty drink called the peach fizz. I'm pretty sure it's just Sprite with peach flavoring added, but it is very refreshing. Service can sometimes be hit or miss, but if you don't have too many requests of the server, you should be ok. They do distribute coupons quite often, so it's worth it to keep an eye out for those in the mail (or online). Decent food, great prices, not bad for a chain restaurant.

I went to Folks for the first time yesterday with one of my friends. It was a quaint little restaurant. Their initial customer service could have been a little better and more organized. I was standing in line at the takeout station for 3 minutes and didn't know that I needed to wait in line by the server's station. Overall it has a country and family-friendly feel. And our waitress was great. I ordered the chicken and waffles which was delicious! My friend did the pick 3 meal. She enjoyed everything but the ribs which were a little dry. The portions were large and the price was good. I even had some leftover to take home. Overall, a great experience.

The best thing about this place is the peach muffins. Everything else, eh not impressed. There was a time I enjoyed going to folks but I realized it was when I wasn't a vegetarian. They had the best, greasy, most sinful, fried chicken you could ever sink your teeth into. The best! Well, since that's not an option for me I have to go with veggies or fish and the last couple of times they were tasteless and were crying out for some seasoning. I've tried their fish fried and grilled, the grilled fish is much better but not by that much. A lot of their veggies are made with meat which I just don't get. The collard greens (which use to be a favorite) comes packed with meat so that's out the question. The salad that I ordered was tasteless as well. How does that happen?? I don't believe you should have to drown your salad with dressing just to get a good taste. You could eat a bowl of dressing if that's the case :-( If you like southern food you might have a good time here but nothing to get excited about, I've had better.

I find Folks a decent place overall. I tend to stick to the things I've ordered for years, so I'm not sure how the new menu items stack up. My favorites are the fried green tomatoes, grilled chicken breast, green beans and onion straws. The sweet tea is always good as well as the cobbler of the day. Sometimes service can be hit or miss, but in terms of the food, I know what I'm getting when I choose Folks.

Eh, this isn't the best southern food one can buy in the state of GA but sometimes you just want easy to find southern comfort food. This location is a little more run down than the one in Lawrenceville & the customer service isn't the greatest but the pork chops are good and the mac & cheese is decent. Will probably been a long time between my next visit.

Been years since I went to a Folks. Love the expanded menu. Chicken & Dumplings is YUMMY. Cajun seafood platter is pretty good. Will substitute the fried shrimp for grilled shrimp on a skewer. But you can save the $ and skip the crab cake and just get the combo - shrimp and fish. Crab cake is forgettable. Fried tomatoes are great. The new fried pickles are Delish. Love that they have healthier options. Service was very attentive.

I made the mistake of the all you can eat menu. I was stuffed. The food is good but it does have an institutional look to it. I think the variety and quantity of food you get gives it another star alone.

A place I always save room for when visiting Atlanta area. Meat and Vegi kind of place, you know what to basically expect but this place is awesome! I love the ribs, the peach sweat tea is a much have and the peach muffins are to die for! I usually get a dozen to take home!

"That's all folks!" I was not impressed with Folks. First off the service was off. It was not busy in the restaurant but it took our server a long time to check on our table when we needed something, get our waters filled up, and to receive our checks. I tried to go healthy (which might've been a mistake) and got a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was whatever and the fries were cold.....I should've gotten the fried chicken combo but I would've paid for it in the gym (I read that they won top fried chicken in Atlanta a few years ago.)! I kept hearing about the awesome peach muffins that they have here....I wasn't impressed with it. There wasn't anything unique about it. I felt like I could have bought the peach batter mix at Kroger and baked it myself. It was a Saturday night and you can order $13.99 all you can eat ribs (which my friends ordered). Yes it's all you can eat but my friend thought the ribs were bad. I tried it and it wasn't the best nor the worst ribs I had. Maybe if your really hungry and looking for quantity this might suit you. Folks was whatevers. If I ever come back.....I should try the fried chicken.

Even though the smell of grease hit me in the face when I got out of the car, I have to give this place 5 stars. My lunch was absolutely delicious and not simply because I didn't pay for it. I had visted a Folks in Riverdale a few years ago and had the fried chicken. It was good even I could not enjoy it as much as I would have liked due to an imminent death in the family. But this time I planned to let it all I hang out. Ok, actually I wimped out and got the 2 piece chicken breast basket with the roasted chicken, cole slaw, green beens and corn muffin. My toes were a curling all through that lunch. I saw some more decadent Southern fare on the menu that I want to try and if the one on Jimmy Carter Bvd is still open....I'm going to that one for lunch tomorrow to get some pot roast....with some roasted chicken to go. I don't think I will ever cook a full meal in my life. And If I keep eating like this, it will not be a long one. No worries. I'll just have to design a bomb-ass insulin pen. I have yet to find a spot that makes Southern biscuits as good as my mother's but I am going to keep looking. They are down here somewhere. I may have to take a weekend road trip to Mississippi where moms grew up to find them, but in the meantime I am going to eat my way through the ATL The food just tastes better here.

Alright, woke up today craving heart clogging fare and made it down the road to Folks. Have not eaten at one of these joints in at least 10-15 years but they have fried chicken livers and since the Colonnade is not an option for a early Sunday stroke (well it probably is one of the most available, but they were not open), I drove the 2-3 miles to this joint. Yeah, it's about the same as I remember. Not terrible (not like the time I ate at the one on Peachtree and Collier last time when I bit down on a piece of ceramic in my food), but passable and my hound loved the left over livers in the car ride on the way home. Service was pleasant, and surprisingly the biscuits were damn good. The white gravy was horrifyingly bland. Turnip greens were not bad after adding some seasoning. In and out in less than 30 minutes.

Portia was our server, VERY friendly and attentive. Me and a friend both ordered the chicken-fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, fried green tomatoes, and cornbread. Overall the food was great, the service was great, and everyone there was friendly. Kind of place I would recommend if you're gonna have the family in town visiting and you're in the mood for some southern cooking on a budget.

Simply excellent. Everything was a good as advertised. Fried steak, okra, sweet potatoes and fried green tomatoes. All just the way they are supposed to be. Service is great and very friendly. Ask for Keysha. You'll be glad you did. Wow. I recommend trying this place if you like authentic southern food.

I heard they used to call this place "Po' Folks", presumably because it's reasonably priced? They've since dropped the "Po'" in the name -- maybe because it ain't as cheap no mo'? Folks is good when you have a hankerin' for big meals and lots of fried stuff. It ain't that cheap! $9 for chicken fried chicken and two sides. Not pricey, but what if I'm po'? The food was just alright. Friendly service, though.

I found this place by accident and I must say the food was ok! We were promptly seated and greeted by a super friendly waiter. I ordered the fried chicken, with mac and cheese, cornbread stuffing w/ gravy and a peach muffin. The waiter gave ups extra peach muffins and they were so delicious! I wish I had the recipe. The fried chicken was great, but the mac and cheese and the cornbread stuffing weren't that good and I wouldn't recommend it. My friends ordered ribs, and they fell right out the bone and said they were really good.. They also tried the country fried steak and that was said to be good also. The place is nothing fancy, but down home feeling
