Tubby's in Thunderbolt is a classic American style restaurant with true southern hospitality. Like a tree house on the outside with rocking chairs and tall heaters for when it gets chilly! We came here new years day for peeper vodka bloody's and buffalo GA Shrimp. Delicious. I hear the crowd is mixed with locals and pirates of Thunderbolt Marina Check it out!!

We went here with our family from out of town. For an appetizer we had the spinach dip and it comes with bread for dipping. I thought this was delicious! For my meal I had the grilled chicken, sweet potato, and veggies. The sweet potato wasn't my favorite but the rest was good. My mother-in-law had the crab legs and thought they didn't have enough meat in there to get enough taste off of them. Overall, I would recommend to try!

I've been to Tubby's a few times, and it's alright. The atmosphere is good, the service is ok (granted, a day before my birthday and they wouldn't give me a cupcake... I'm not bitter) . The food though, it tastes good, but it seems a bit overcharged for what they serve.

BAD people! they add extra charges on credit cards, which is a crime. My friend and I went here last night fot seated ...and waited and waited...finally the manager, Crystal came and took our order. We waited an hour only to get the wrong food. She didn't write down the order and obviously has a terrible memory. Since it had already taken over an hour my friend and I just decided to share his food. The manager, Crystal came out and offered a free chicken sandwich to go for our trouble. That never came. When we finished our shared meal no one came to pick up the bill so we went inside to pay. I asked the manager " what happened to your offer of the free chicken sandwich." So, they never had made it. So , we stood there for 15 minutes waiting for that. Not that i'd eat it at that point, ( who knows what she'd do to it) .We paid the check and left. THEN the next day my friend looked at his bill on his credit card statement and what they had charged him. At the restaurant he signed off on a 16 dollar bill and did not give a tip. On the credit card she had overcharged him by 16 dollars, making the bill 32 dollars!. He had not tipped her , so apparently she added on a 16 dollar tip for herself for the worst service I've ever seen in a restaurant. It's also illegal to do. I may go to the news stations with this one. Bad people.

Food could've been better. No flavor. Lil more spices and more oyster menu ..service was okay. Bar drinks are pretty high ! Service was horrible ! Waitress didn't have a clue what's on the menu.

Great atmosphere and very unique. The Tuna bites had a great taste and amazing sauce. The fish of the day was to die for! Everything came out at once and we all got to enjoy dinner together!

After a long week at work, my coworkers and I love to come over the Tubby's to unwind. They have a great happy hour complete with delicious eats to go along with their drink specials. They are friendly and most of the time helpful. There have been a few times where we have come into the bar, sat down, and had to wait for up to 15 minutes to get any table service. We eventually went to the bar and ordered for ourselves. Overall they are OK and close to my work therefore they make my best happy hour list.

Writing this review, I'm sure if I went here for dinner based on the complaints on wait of the food, the review would be worse. However, coming here for lunch when the restaurant was almost vacant, you get treated like a king. Thank you Man v. food for placing this establishment on the radar. Tubby's Tank House food was so good. The fried shrimp and catfish was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fresh. Like dag, it has got to be one of the top fresh seafood I have had in a minute. Not a huge advocate for spinach dip but that was amazing too!. Nothing really disappointed. spot on, look forward to returning to try other items. Service was pretty good to me. It was cozy inside. Nice bar set up, chairs around. I would recommend this place to anyone who are seafood fans.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Went in for lunch with my wife and my in-laws. Nice day so we choose outside seating. We ended up going to the top of the tub, and it was great. The girl serving us was happy and very friendly. I know it has to be no fun running up those stairs for one party, but she never let on. We ordered several appetizers and ate them as our meal. Everything we ordered was absolutely amazing. We had the bacon wrapped scallops and that Thai peanut sauce might be the best thing I've tasted in Savannah. We also ordered the seafood sampler and the shrimp risotto with cream sauce. First, the seafood sampler was good. Exactly what you'd expect for fried seafood. The shrimp risotto was absolutely delicious. The cream sauce was probably the most talked about part of the meal. The risotto cake was fantastic. Not overdone but pure perfection. The fried asparagus was great, and the sauce with it was fantastic. You might see a trend here, they know how to make great sauces. The only downer was the crab legs. Gave em a shot to see how they were and eh. We all agreed on a day when they're busy and steaming them up regularly they're probably as amazing as everything else. This place was great all around. I don't think I'd change one thing. Was really impressed with our server keeping a smile on her face the whole time and running us drinks up.

This is a great little restaurant in Savannah! They have plenty of seating- inside and out. The family liked the food fairly well, but me being vegan I didn't have many options. The service was really good though, and I enjoyed the stay!

My family & I decided to take a chance with Tubby's after we unfortunately couldn't get a table at the Crab Shack for a while. My daughter wanted to see the gators :) However, we were still excited to try this spot and have heard good things. We are new to Savannah and this was our first experience. Well, we were seated in the middle of the dinning room and I was assured by the hostess it wouldn't be a problem because we do have five small children and i didn't want to be the center of attention. Unfortunately the table of three across from us from it a problem and didn't like it. They showed this by all three just staring at us the entire time, it was like they were waiting for one of our children to act out. My children however were content with their coloring. We tried to not let the staring affect us. I really wanted some good seafood. Unfortunately we never even got to order! The waitress was rude and kept trying to rush the children to order a drink. Mind you they had no apple juice or orange juice which was their first two choices! She never took our drink order quickly ran off and came back about 10 minutes later just to do the same dance all over again! At this point we were waiting 15 minutes and still not having anything to drink my three year old became fussy and the waitress ignored us when we tried to call her over. We decided Tubby's Tank House was NOT the place for us and we walked out without even receiving drinks! Horrible first experience and we will not be back! Next time I will wait the hour at the Crab Shack!!

The food and the service was great. The portions are amazing for the price. I had spinach dip and the Tubby Two with scallops and oysters. The scallops were sweet and fried and the oysters were very good. The spinach dip was served with fresh warm bread. And Gloria was our waitress and she knew the menu and gave excellent suggestions.

Tried the seafood sampler appetizer. The fish fingers were piping hot and the shrimp and oyster were good, though somewhere few in number. The standout of the whole meal, though, was the Hebrew National Chili Cheese Dog and fries LOL IT. WAS. AWESOME. Sometimes you just want to know a place can get the basics right and this was amazingly good. I'll be back to try more of their offerings. Best food I've had since moving here three weeks ago.

Delicious fresh fish and seafood and offered a multitude of ways - steamed, fried, on salads, blackened. Grouper and Scallops were amazing and perfectly cooked. Attentive but not intrusive service. We may have a new lunch spot

What a surprise. I had been here many years ago, and it was okay then, but now it was very fine. Three of us had lunch and we were greeted by a friendly and efficient waitress. One of us had the shrimp and grits, one had scallops, and I had the steamed shrimp dinner. The food was well prepared and ample serving size. In fact, the shrimp on my dinner were large, nearly jumbo sized shrimp, and there were at least 12 of them. Tubby's is now on our "go to" list of favorite seafood restaurants in Savannah.

Over rated , bad service portions were extra small, warm. Let's see if I can say anything positive. We got plenty of cold water - oh da that's free! Cold food bad service and the place wasn't even busy.

Definitely a good place to come to located in the historic part of savannah. Don't have allot to compare it to as of yet, but for my first restaurant experience in Savannah this was a good one. Parking was simple, it overlooked the Savannah River, and service couldn't have been better.

While on vacation my husband and I signed up for a 5k. So we were looking for a place to eat after our run. Funny thing is that Thunderbolt is so small and the route of the 5k ran right by this restaurant. So being from out of town it made it even easier to find right after the run. Right by the water when I ran it seemed like the little docks that Forest Gump was by when he bought the fishing boat. Rocking chairs decked the outside and it was quite roomy inside. Don't count out brunch at a seafood place. We were not disappointed at all! My husband ordered the shrimp and blue crab omelet and I went on a limb and got Tubby's famous fish fingers and eggs. I debated mostly because I thought this might be a bad version of fish sticks. I was more than pleasantly surprised. That dish was truly out of this world! I can't remember the name of the fish, but it was a similar to grouper. It was so delicious and melt in your mouth. Although my husband enjoyed his omelet, he too was raving about my food.

Great food, great ambiance, great service! I'm gonna take them up on their steamed oyster special one Thursday. Don't get the Tank Out unless you have a ride home!!!!

We come here pretty often to drink and have a house salad. Anything beyond that is overpriced and underwhelming. Specifically tonight, I ordered tuna tartar. There was about an ounce of tuna sitting on top of a bunch of seaweed salad (presumably to make it look like there is more tuna). It cost 9.99. A complete rip off. I will continue to stick to beer and salad.

Terrible. We went there after a tour guide sent us there. The food had so much pepper on it my wife couldn't eat it. I had shrimp and grits it was clear after one bite the grits were undercooked and the shrimp were bad. This place is little more than a bar. I would avoid.

Delicious!!! We had fried shrimp and crab legs for dinner. The food was really yummy, ESPECIALLY the hot bread and spinach dip appetizer! Service was a little slow, but the atmosphere keeps you entertained while you wait! A great little restaurant!

Below average OK.. food is really disappointing. Got the Colossal shrimp and got the 25 count small ones. and only 7 of them. All for 18 bucks. Rip off. Outside drinking beer watching sports. Was the only saving grace. They ad on the radio says " come hungry". Ya do that and you will leave hungry.

  • Shawn H.

Worst service ever!!! Waited 1.5 hrs for our food and kept getting the same story from management about "they will check on our food". Do not come here if you expect to eat before midnight ... And the food is marginal at best and the portions are very small. Will not be coming to a Tubby's ever again.

This place is great! We dined here tonight and everything was perfect! We had a one year old with us which is a challenge within itself, but the waitresses helped entertain him a bit before they were busy. I had the Fresh Cobia (which is like grouper, but firmer) and my husband had the fresh yellow fin tuna. It was cooked perfectly. I also had the side salad to go with it with the house cucumber dressing and it was amazing as well. The atmosphere is perfect, and the bands start around 5:30 if you're an early bird like us. They have a great outdoor eating area, but inside is great as well. If you get the chance to try the praline cheesecake then do! If you're into the beer scene then they said they will be starting a 20 tap service starting next week. :)

My wife and I love this place. We were just there again this past weekend sitting on the porch enjoying the beautiful weather while eating our favorite buffalo shrimp and enjoying nice frosty beverages. We noticed they added some new TVs outside which will make this a good place to watch football this fall. Let's see, when will I be back in Savannah again so I can enjoy Tubby's some more?

Our experience at Tubby's took place the Saturday night of April the 7th 2012. We arrived for dinner service at 7pm and seeing it was crowded I went in understanding 2 things... 1) The food must be pretty good for such a heavy crowd and 2)I fully expected to deal with a lengthy wait on everything due to Tubby's being crowded. My number 2) understanding was correct... number 1) was not. Upon reaching the hostess station we were not greeted with a smile but a hostess that was on the phone (which is understandable) however when she hung up the phone she walked away into the kitchen and just left us standing there.... for 5 minutes. During this time we were approached by 2 servers who asked if we had been helped, which we said No, and both times the different servers said "I'll get the hostess for you." and left. Finally the hostess came back (who was the same young lady that was on the phone) and with no apology offered to us for waiting just "how many in your party? two, this way please." She sat us down at a four top and informed us and informed us that the kitchen is very backed up right now and it may be awhile. To me this is something that you train you FOH not to do...make excuses right from the start, right time the customers sits down for whats going to happen...come on, I bet the owners would love to have heard that coming from their employee. It took only about a minute for our server to come and take our drink orders, which he quickly returned with and then took our appetizer order which was they're Bacon wrapped scallops COST $10.99. To my surprise, the appetizer came fairly quick and I was actually impressed with it, it was very good. My wife ordered their Crab Cake dinner which was called Captain Michael's Crab Cakes COST $22.99. The menus says it comes with Dijon Mustard Aioli with a Baked Potato, hush Puppies and grilled Asparagus as the side items. I ordered their fried Shrimp dinner with their "Spanky's Spuds" , hush puppies and cole slaw, COST $15.99 and I asked for Honey Mustard for dipping sauce. Now here is what I could not believe...My wife asked our server when she ordered her crab cakes that she doesn't like asparagus and if Tubby's would substitute her grilled Asparagus for extra hush puppies, to which our server told her sorry but no substitutions. Which then I asked how about taking off the Asparagus and let her have some french bread instead as Tubby's has french bread listed as a side item. Again our server told us "No Substitutions". Now puzzled I had to ask...Why not? I mean Asparagus has to cost Tubby's way more than hush puppies right? and if by some odd chance I was wrong then I know full well that a side item of French Bread doesn't cost Tubby's more than a side item of Asparagus. But our server stood firm with No Substitutions and explained that Tubby's long ago made the policy of No Substitutions and that he was very sorry but there was nothing he could do. I had to ask our server (after he just explained this No Substitution policy) if I could have extra Spuds instead of cole slaw which he laughing replied "no." It did take over 30 minutes from the time we ordered them for our entrees to arrive, but like I said earlier Tubby's was slammed with customers when we arrived so I can't fault them for that. When the entrees did arrive my wife enjoyed the the Crab Cakes. They were made from really good lump meat with very little filling/binding ingredients, I will go as far as to say maybe NO filling other than a little bit of egg to act as a binding agent to hold the cake together. They were seasoned well and were full of nothing but seasoning and crab meat, in my opinion they were great crab cakes. The Aioli was really pretty good however their hush puppies were just these dried VERY dry balls of cornmeal nothing more. As for the Asparagus, well that left a bad taste in my wife's mouth even before the entree arrived. My fried Shrimp dinner was cooked well but just a little too much batter on the shrimp, I mean the shrimp were very nice large shrimp but just too much batter for me. The Spanky Spuds that came as a side item were greasy and I didn;t eat them. My hush puppies were exactly like my wife's, these dry dry dry little balls of cornmeal, no seasoning no flavor what so ever. I mean I was making better hush puppies when I was 15 years old having a fish fry while camping on the sandbars of the upper ogeechee river after fishing for redbreast and bluegills all day. The Cole slaw was almost warm in temperature and was kind of watery and very bland, it could have benefited from a shot of fresh black pepper. It did take over 30 minutes from the time we ordered them for our entrees to arrive, but like I said earlier Tubby's was slammed with customers when we arrived so I can't fault them for that. However its the combination of FOH staff and average food (not including the crab cakes and scallops) that I say Tubby's is average at best.

Nice place, we were all pretty happy with our meals and the service. I came here for my Low Country fix (shrimp, crab, sausage, corn, etc..) and was quite satisfied

Came here for lunch with my mom and grandma. The crab dip was phenomenal, as was the bread they served with it. I got a fried shrimp basket, which was very good (for what it is), my mom enjoyed her hamburger, and my grandma enjoyed her crab cake. It's not the best food in the world, but it was very good and just what we were looking for. Very informal and relaxed. The service was great and the waiters/waitresses were very nice! A nice stop for lunch while in Savannah.

I liked the atmosphere of this place and if I were a local I'm sure I'd try it again. I'd the food was just ok... I ordered the shrimp and grits and the flavor was good, but there was entirely too much sauce which overpowered the grits. Also, there were strips of bacon in the sauce that should have been cut up smaller as they were a little too salty to eat in a large chunk.

Pretty solid fried seafood. Fried clams and shrimp were tasty. Beer selection is so so and the prices are a little high.

My friend took us out to dinner last night on a Tubby's gift card he had received. It looked like a cool place with a laid back vibe. There was an outside patio area for eating with a bar and live music. When we went inside and encountered the bar area first. There was no one to greet us and we looked around to see where we should go. A waitress who was heading out the door told us that we could sit anywhere or go up into the dining room. (We didn't see any signs pointing to the D.R.) We were seated and we tried to read the menu but it was difficult because it was dark. There was some sunlight coming in so we sort of had to hold our menus at an angle to catch the light. Our waitress came to take our order and when she left, my friend noticed that she did not immediately take our orders into the kitchen but went to a few other tables to take their orders. So basically, this means that not only were we waiting longer than necessary, our order would be competing with others in the kitchen at the same time since they were all placed together. We had ordered a bowl of "runner up" home-made chili for me and a Tubby's Tulip, which is a sort of blooming onion for appetizers. (A battered fried whole onion cut in a way to make to open up into petals as it fries.) The waitress brought our drinks ($2.98 each for soda with free refills.) We also ordered hush puppies. Now, my friend used to work in his family's restaurant where they made home made hush puppies. He knows that they should have *some* flavor because they are otherwise just fried batter. These came with dipping sauces which is good because they were flavorless. He sent them back because of the lack of flavor. The "tulip" was burned, way over done, and tasted that way. My chili wasn't bad I guess, it just had an odd set of seasonings. I ate it but I'm not sure that I would have known it was chili if I was blind-folded. We got the entrees, my friend got fried shrimp, several of them had not been cleaned and had the intestines still in them. He lost his appetite and sent them back. They offered him other seafood, including more shrimp, but he had lost his appetite. My partner had fried scallops that weren't bad but the breading all fell off, it just slid off. Maybe they were previously frozen and watery ? I don't know. My salad with grilled chicken was ok, it was all warm. The chicken was warm and so was the salad itself. No hot, no cold. The hard boiled egg was tasteless and over cooked. A nice green\gray ring around the yolk. Chicken tasted OK but was a bit soft like it was under done. They took the hush puppies and the shrimp off the bill. They still charged a dollar for the baked potato upgrade that came with the shrimp. He didn't eat it though. He would have if there was more butter provided but it took so long to get everything he didn't even bother. So, a bowl of chili, a burned onion appetizer, fried scallops, three sodas, a twelve dollar grilled chicken salad (really ?!) came to $52. I've been to Tubby's, Spanky's and Fiddler's in Savannah which are all part of the same restaurant chain and they have all been bad on more than one occasion. My friend was at Fiddler's for a work meeting recently and he said that as soon as he walked in the door, all he could smell was dirty mop water. The restaurant smelled of it. Way too much money for less than mediocre food.

Be careful! I went here with family and ordered the chicken finger basket (it was awesome, especially with the honey horseradish sauce). My bill was about $14 (with two drinks). When I got my bank statement they had charged me over $60!!!! I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, they promised to put the money back on my card...they never did. To make it worst, the manager wouldn't even return my call. I had to dispute it with my bank before I could get my money back. I've eaten there once since then (with cash only) and that was only because my friends wanted to go. The food is good but the uncertainty isn't.

I think I am giving this place 4 stars because of the rocking chair front porch. I do wish the river view was not obstructed by condos, but at least they are nice condos. I had the blackened grouper salad and it wasnt bad. Would have been nice if it was done on a nice bed of greens rather than plain romaine and iceburg, but, at least the fish was great.... and fresh! Blackened perfectly! A friend of mine lives next to the owner and he guarunteed me that the grouper was caught that day. The service was pretty good, but you just cant beat eating on the porch! Will go again.... and again!! Havemt tried the Thurs night Sunset Party, but REALLY want to.

I am not a huge fan of fried seafood, or eating just fish. I am more of a raw bar, steamed shellfish kinda girl. However, there are few things here that I do enjoy. 1. Buffalo shrimp. They do cook some damn good shrimp! 2. Sunday brunch Shrimp and Grits. Pretty tasty. But my favorite thing is coming to Tubby's after work with a co-worker or 2 chill out of the front porch kick back some ice cold beers and snack on some seafood goodness. As a bar place with place rocks! But for a sit down meal, there are other places I would rather go.

I live in Thunderbolt, so I love to meet friends at Tubby's on River Drive. (There's one in the historic district too, on River Street, for tourists). The Tbolt Tubby's is for locals (and those who come in from the yachts) and it has a neighborhood feel. You can't miss it, as there is no longer much else to do on River Drive. Besides, it's the only place with a bathtub on the roof. A big covered porch and bar face the river (what you can still see of it, through the condos) and there's an upstairs deck as well. Inside, separate bar and restaurant serve local fish and the usual fare--good food, average prices. I love to sit outside in the rocking chairs, have food and drinks brought to me, and talk. Live music on Thursdays and big crowds sometimes. I'm a bit old for that, but if it's your thing, go for it. Sunday brunch is very nice, especially if you score a table upstairs on the deck. Order shrimp and grits.

My favorite: Buffalo shrimp. Also yummy: Fried grouper, regular fried shrimp and, wait for it, fried fries! I always thought service was slow. Don't go when you are starving.

I have always been a fan of Tubby's, but lately it seems they have undergone some not-so-positive changes. Their menu has changed, their prices have increased, and their some of their recipes have changed. Why fool with what' sbeen working for years? Also, the past few times we have been in, the service is really awful. Still a good place to have a drink outside in nice weather, but I think I will be eating elsewhere.

I lived in Thunderbolt for a little bit. This place became my local spot, just because it was a less than 10 minute walk (and 15 minute bar crawl). Staff: Bartenders are nice, but have not-so-decent drink prices. Servers are also decent. It seems like they roll through them though. Food: Good. Kind of greasy though depending on what you get. Very filling too. If you get the veggies, make sure you asked for them steamed, and not doused in butter. Atmosphere: Awesome. It has the local charm to it. I've spent many-a-night on the rocking chairs outside. They have a few arcade games, popcorn, and fishing hooplah mounted to the walls. Thursdays are where the money is at. Starting at about 630 all the locals (or old people) show up, have a few beers, munch on free popcorn and have a good time. About 10 is when they open up the club part of the bar, turn off the cool music, and let the riff raff in. Locals are outnumbered by punkasses that wear their hats sideways and girls with no self respect. I didn't mind the cougars that are always on the prowl there. Price: Normal for seafood. Overall, this is an awesome place to go. I am actually about to go with some friends.

This has been my wife and my second trip to this particular tubbys and once again it was a huge disappointment. Both times we sat on the roof and had some of the worst service we have experienced since moving to savannah 5 years ago. It took around 45 minutes each time to get our food, and the waiter/waitress checked on us so infrequently we began to wonder if they had forgotten about us. Secondly, the food was absolutely nothing to brag about. The chicken Ruben sandwich I had was more bread than anything else and my wife's spinach and artichoke dip was less than average and very bland. I can't speak for the experience of sitting anywhere else but on the roof there, but both times we sat up there to enjoy the weather the experience was terrible. There are much better places to get seafood in the same area and we will no longer go there.

Worst service in Savannah. With only 2 other tables occupied in the restaurant, it took 40 minutes to get our food. Then only half the table got their food. The server argued with a family friend over what she ordered, telling the friend that she ordered grilled chicken not the chicken strips. 20 minutes later the other half of the food came. My youngest had finished her entree by this time and was still hungry. So we ordered an appetizer. 30 minutes later the server brings the check and I ask about the appetizer only to receive the response oh it's almost done; it should only be another 10 minutes. You brought me the check before bringing me all of the food? We used to go to Tubby's on a regular basis, but hadn't been there in months because of the decline. We will not return. With so many other options close by, this is off the list.

My husband & I went recently on a Saturday night. They were full in the main restaurant so we are in the bar. Will try for that area from now on. Cozy and not so loud. Hubby had snapper which was really fresh and I had shrimp which were awesome! Our waiter Phillip was excellent! What a cool place.

I had the blackened grouper from the fresh catch menu and it was really good. It was a large portion and wasn't too spicy. It also had hush puppies on the side that were yummy as well. Seems like a place to come in the summer and hang out on the porch. It was very busy when I was there but we were not in a hurry so we don't mind waiting a little extra. Our server was an older woman with a lot of character. She was really cute and funny. I can see why people like to come here.

My husband and I went to Tubby's last night and really liked the food. He had the fish sandwich and I had the fish salad (they used sheepshead). The fish was very fresh and tasty--we had it blackened. The cucumber onion dressing is a house specialty and totally lives up to the hype. I also have to mention our fabulous server, Michelle. She made excellent recommendations and she was hilarious! We felt bad that we were too stuffed for dessert, but she forgave us.

Eating here was my dads idea and we are glad he suggested it. My flounder, the fish of the day, was boiled to perfection and the seasoning almost perfect!! I also loved the salt on the baked potato. My sister ate the shrimp and grits. It was creamy, full of flavor and her slide of French bread went perfectly with it. My mom had the chicken fingers but after hearing me rave about the flounder, she wished she had gotten that instead. However her honey mustard sauce was a hit with the whole family and we used it on more than the fired chicken! Most of the desserts are homemade or made locally. We enjoyed the chocolate cheese cake, the lemon meringue and the key lime pies. Our waitress was Kerby and she gets a round of applause from us!

Savannah has so many restaurants to choose from, and this is one of my favorites!! I've been here with small and large parties, and the food was wonderful, and staff was very welcoming and helpful. The bacon wrapped scallops are amazing!! (Their beer and wine list is spot on too!)

"A good place to eat -- once upon a time it was great Recommended. Tubby's Tank House is a bit of a legend in the Savannah area. The name is cool and the food was terrific once upon a time. Tubby's was the first restaurant I visited when I moved to the Savannah area in 2004. The food was delicious, prices were reasonable, and service excellent. During the 10-year period I lived in the Savannah area, I watched the quality of food preparation and service "go downhill". I don't know if the economic downturn had anything to do with this. But I've visited enough to know I have no burning desire to go back when I pass through the Savannah area. The good news is Tubby's is resisting price creep. Restaurants in Savannah are notorious for charging "New York prices" without provisioning entrees of comparable quality. Tubby's hasn't fallen into this trap, I'm glad to say. I am optimistic for Tubby's stemming from my earliest, positive initial visit. I hope they do well. Service can be spotty -- this is typical with restaurants in Savannah proper. If you're passing through or just living in the Savannah area, you might find it worthwhile try Tubby's. They have a long history doing what they do. And they have the ability to provision a terrific experience.

Was excited to check this place out but our large party was sat separately in booths and our food came out 20 minutes later than our friends. The food was cold, the scallops were over cooked, my order was prepared wrong and the server was MIA. The only thing this place had going for it was the cool building it was in. THUMBS DOWN! I won't be coming back.

It used to be my favorite seafood Resturant, but the food took for ever to come out and it was half cold and the coleslaw was sour. They tried again and still more sour coleslaw and again order was not right and again it took a long time. On top of the I was given a used condiment, that was nasty!! To double dip with someone you don't know!!! Two stars for effort, and old memories.

Usually can't complaint about tubby's, but tonight wasn't one of the better experiences I've had there. Our server disappeared after she brought our drinks, our food took longer than usual to come out (I didn't say anything but my food was a bit on the Cool side. Still tasty though) Something about the atmosphere seemed off; not the normal warm happy feel I usually get. Maybe just the fact it was 8pm on a holiday weekend Saturday.... Perhaps everyone was just too whooped to be boisterous. I do love Tubby's. Cute building in a lovely loca ruin. Highly popular on a warm evening (their patio is awesome, and heaters make it pleasant on a chilly evening if you want to pop out for fresh air or a cigarette.

Food has been consistently bad the last four times I ate here. That was the feedback from my friends as well. Fried seafood was dry, chewy and rubbery. The breading was totally separated from the over cooked scallops and was served in a puddle of the oil it was cooked in. Server at the bar charged us for an extra beer even though she did not bother to bus our empties so the count, two each, was evident by the empty bottles in front of us.

I was there for a music concert this past Friday night. The bar was very crowded so I decided to run a tab, which I usually don't do but thought it would save time in ordering drinks, and be more convenient for the bartender (due to the crowd). After several hours I went to close my tab, which was $80. I gave a 20% tip ($20), making my total purchase $100. The next morning (Saturday) I was online checking my balance and saw where the charge had gone through successfully for $100. Today, Tuesday, I was again checking my balance on line and saw where Tubby's had charged me an additional $70. This is 4 days after I was there!!! My bank and I placed a 3-way call and spoke to the manager (a male), who was argumentative, offered me no apology and said that they had to hold the extra money as some type of guarantee. I didn't get this because the $100 had already been taken out of my bank. The manager told me that that was standard procedure and the $70 charge would eventually be reversed - in a couple of days. I did not authorize these extra funds to be "held" by Tubby's. As of tonight I still do not have my $70 that I was overcharged. I like Tubby's food and eat there at least once a week so I was really disappointed by all this. Bad business and a manager with a bad attitude. If I ever go back (which is questionable), I'll be sure to pay cash.

I love this place! The patio area looked really cool but unfortunately we didn't sit there. We were there on our lunch break for my birthday, so we told the waitress it had to be quick and we had a meeting at 1:00. For appetizers we all split the bacon wrapped scallops, and I got the chicken Reuben. The scallops were deeeelicious - not sure if worth the money - but the chicken Reuben was amazing and totally cheap. I was impressed by how huge the chicken breast was and how juicy and moist the entire thing was. As an added plus, our waitress told us that since it was my birthday, it was BOGO entree free!! How awesome is that?! I just had to show them my drivers license. As an added plus, we made it to our 1:00 meeting...totally stuffed and a couple of minutes late, but worth it!

This is a good place to chill and relax on the patio. It's the perfect spring/summer retreat to feel a light breeze and enjoy the shade and beauty of Savannah! I thought the buffalo shrimp was perfect. Plump, crispy and covered in a spicy fire sauce. The crinkle fries that joined along were crunchy and fried happiness. I dunked the two dishes in ranch dressing and melted a little. It may not be the most health conscious dish but, oh freakin well! It' s the ideal place for a variety of seafood and memories.

Great location. Great venue. Very laid back and our service was good. That's about where the positive review will end. Our appetizers (both of them) were forgotten. They arrived after our entrees and were of course comp'd. They still gave them to us but they were flavorless and cold....skip the calamari & the scallops. Neither had any flavor. Entrees....eeeeh, just ok. My crabcakes are OVERLY salted. Everyone else reviewed their meal as "food". Nothing but calories to fuel our bodies but absolutely not worth the $100 price tag for the 4 of us. Anyway, nice server, good location, bad food.

While camping in Tybee, we tried Tubby's and ordered the fried oysters, scallops, fish, shrimp, and a few appetizers. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. The breading was very light and they used a different kind for each dish. Not greasy, just right. The scallops and oyesters were my fave. I didn't use lemon, which is unusual for me. It was light on spice but I liked that because it didn't mask the freshness of the seafood. Order the spinach dip with bread, it is awesooome. The calamari was just ok. Great service, too.

My family and I have been going to Tubby's for the past few years. We have enjoyed there food every time we have been there. The atmosphere and waitresses there are absolutely amazing. Mona Hayslip who has been our waitress in the past has always gone above and beyond attending to our every wants and needs. Always with a friendly smile and her caring ways. I absolutely recommend this as a place to stop and enjoy great food. Don't forget to ask for Mona she is outstanding.

We enjoyed the chocolate cheese cake, the lemon meringue and the key lime pies. Our waitress was Kerby and she gets a round of applause from us!

BAD people! they add extra charges on credit cards, which is a crime. Bad people.

Pretty solid fried seafood. Fried clams and shrimp were tasty. Beer selection is so so and the prices are a little high.

Worst service ever!!! Waited 1.5 hrs for our food and kept getting the same story from management about "they will check on our food". Do not come here if you expect to eat before midnight ... And the food is marginal at best and the portions are very small. Will not be coming to a Tubby's ever again.
