Great family owned and operated small restaurant in Downtown Thomasville. Family oriented, southern, clean, and delicious!! I could eat my weight in the hush puppies!! The shrimp and grits were fantastic. I had the grouper special and it was crispy on the outside and moist inside - just right. Everything was awesome and the kids loved it too. I love the story behind the name and the family values that make the food even better. It will fill up fast on the weekends so go a little early to avoid the wait. I love places like this!

We heard a lot of good things about this restaurant thru recommendations. We had dinner with another couple outside and it was very pleasant. We ordered fried oysters and fried green tomatoes for an appetizer which were very good. For dinner I had a special which was grouper with slaw and cheese grits. So good and plenty to eat that I didn't finish. Would definitely recommend and return there. Service was great but the only con I noted the noise level inside. Outside in my opinion is the place to sit if you are interested in a conversation where you don't have to raise your voice.

Best place ever! Went here for dinner and it was worth the drive from tallahassee! Had shrimp and grits and they were amazing

Exceptional food, atmosphere and service. Such a gem of a restaurant in Downtown Thomasville. Large portions and fresh ingredients.

Jonah's is a fine restaurant - nice menu selection with creative dishes, quality food and a decent price. Wait staff were all friendly and super attentive. I'd definitely frequent this place if we lived close by. My wife and I ordered a Grouper Baja Wrap and the Grouper Alexander. Both were excellent - good fillings in the wrap (cheese, greens, pico & some house sauce) + a side of grits and a super tasty hushpuppie. The Grouper Alexander same with a parmesan sauce and some shrimp and scallops on top. Top notch!

My wife and I rode our motorcycle 350 miles just to have lunch here on Saturday, September 28, 2013. We'd go double, even triple that distance to eat here again. When we rolled into town on the bike to search for the place, the front door was obstructed by a line of people waiting to get in. It was nearly 2:00 so we were surprised. The wait was only about 20 minutes! We requested to be seated outside and soon had drinks and an appetizer. The crab cakes were perfect - served with a spicy sauce on the side that my wife and I fork-fought over. Our entrees arrived a few minutes after we finished the appetizer. I ordered fried catfish with red cabbage slaw and my wife had shrimp and grits. Now I know it's tough to mess up fried catfish, but it's not so easy to absolutely nail it. They did. The fish was cooked perfectly, full of flavor and lightly coated with a corn meal batter. The red cabbage slaw was exactly the way I like it. How'd they know? Not soupy and very fresh. I took a bite of my wife's grits ... Holy Cow was it good! ... the grits were creamy, not lumpy, and cooked with white cheddar cheese and just the right amount of spices. Neither of us ever touched the salt and pepper shakers. To top off a great meal, we had peanut butter pie and key lime pie. Yowza! The atmosphere, service and food were all superb. We will go back and will recommend friends and family.

I have only been here one time. It was a good place to eat. I had a cheese burger in a seafood place. The burger was great. The hush puppies were raw in the center. The waitress replaced them. The staff is very nice. I will go back in the future.

Everything was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The wait wasn't too long and the service is great. And the food -- the Gingersnap Salmon melts in your mouth, every side dish was great - hush puppies and coleslaw. Amazing :)

Been hearing about this place for a while. Took a drive up to Thomasville and had dinner with friends. Get there early folks. We arrived at 6:00 on a weekday and snagged the last four-top before the long line started. No beer, wine or liquor here, just some wonderful sweet tea. Lots of it! Fried pickles and fried clams for apps and they were yummy. Complimentary hush puppies were excellent. Since apps were a fry fest didn't go with fried fish for dinner. Chose their signature shrimp and grits which is served over a vegetable medley. The vegetables kinda negated the fry fest in my caloric guilt. Oh wait. The grits were made with cream. Never mind. The dish was tasty but would prefer the grits to have been less "soupy". Good but not great. Service was great. Love to see servers working with one another delivering dishes, clearing plates and topping off beverages to customers outside their stations. Too full and guilt ridden to have dessert but my companions had the key lime pie and the said it was great.

I have heard great things about Jonah's for years and was really excited to eat here for a work meeting. I arrived around just after 11:30 and by 11:45 they had a wait, so get there early if you're under a time crunch. I started with a Cesar Salad because I was starving. It was really, really good! I usually always request dressing on the side but this time i forgot, and I'm glad I did! their dressing was delicious and it wasn't heavy. I had the Parmesan Crusted Grouper Sandwich with a side of their fresh spinach. It was delicious! The fish was perfect. I ordered it blackened and it had the perfect amount of spice and basically fell apart. The only thing I had to complain about was the bread. I ended up just taking a few bites before just taking the sandwich apart. I'm just not a huge Ciabatta fan. Also, there was a hush puppy that came on the side and I waited to the end to take a bite. Big mistake. That was the best part of the meal and I was *almost* too full to enjoy it :) I will be back!

This is one of the best place I ever been to. Seems like everyone in that small town knows about this place and loves as well. I went with Jeremy and we both had food coma after finishing our meal! This should become a chain business so that we can have one in Atlanta !

The fried green tomatoes were a bit of a disappointment (not seasoned very well), but everything else was pretty good. The restaurant had a fishy smell, but was very nice and had a good atmosphere. I preferred to eat on the terrace and it was lovely, especially on a pretty day. Cute spot for a Thomasville lunch, but the food wasn't legendary, and there seem to be a lot of families with screaming kids the day I visited. Street parking only.

Wow! Being a California native, I am far from a grits expert, but the Shrimp & Grits at Jonah's was a culinary experience I will long remember. It was a near-perfect meal with the generous basket of awesome hush puppies and a sweet tea. Wait staff was super friendly and checked on me several times during my dinner. If you ever find yourself in Thomasville, do not miss this restaurant!

I'd rate 75% Overall it was a nice consistent meal. Came here for lunch on a weekday afternoon during holiday season. Me and my dining companion ordered a cup of fish chowder, fried oyster po boy sandwich, creamy shrimp & grits, cornmeal fried catfish, and a key lime pie dessert. Fish chowder was probably my fav dish here. Was surprisingly light (relative to my expectations to chowders at least) and very flavorful. Really wanted to help myself to another serving of this, and regret that I didn't. Only cons were that it was served slightly lukewarm, which was a shame. There was also no bread to go with it, just crackers. Terrible shame, but it was good nonetheless. Oyster po boy sandwich was my second fav. The chef here does a commendable job with the cornmeal batter. It's subtly sweet, fairly light, and not greasy. Oysters are cooked well, and the bread wasn't too bad. Would order this sandwich again. The red cabbage slaw, was so-so. Catfish in cornmeal batter had the same good treatment, and the fish was still wonderfully moist on the inside. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the fried dishes here! Fries that came with it had a bit too much salt, and were nothing special. The creamy shrimp and grits were not bad. The shrimp was cooked well and still moist, but the flavor was a bit bland with the cream being a bit overwhelming factor in flavor. The cream was a bit heavier than I'd liked it to be. It was a decent dish, but not the best I've had. Making the sauce lighter, or having it on the side would have helped IMO. Key lime pie was very good! Flavors were subtle, and the texture was light. Portion here was also adequately civil, thank goodness. Service was above average. We came during a somewhat busy lunch hour, and were attended to with friendly service, and relatively brief wait times for our food. Our waitress kindly split our main course of catfish into two plates, so my gf and I could share. Dishes were very reasonably priced considering most main courses cost around less than $10, an the portions being reasonable. 3 main courses, a soup, dessert, two non-alcoholic drinks, and a 20% tip set us back around $50. For the quality of the food, this is a reasonable bargain. Ambiance is so-so but clean. Also note this is a family restaurant. No alcohol, which is a slight disappointment, because all that awesome fried food would have been great with a decent beer! Will return.

It's always great when you find a restaurant that deserves a five star review! Jonah's Fish and Grits certainly deserves it as it blends a unique atmosphere with an eclectic menu to satisfy even the most pickiest of eaters. There was a a bit of a wait, but we weren't in any type of hurry. I ordered their sweet tea, which was very good and freshly brewed. The soda comes in cans, but they do give you more if you need it. As an appetizer, they give you a basket full of hush puppies, which taste very good and come with little containers of butter. I decided on the F.G.T. Chicken Sandwich, which was amazing! It's topped with their special "Jonah's sauce" and a fried green tomato. It also comes with one side and cole slaw, but you can substitute out the cole slaw if you aren't a fan. I got the french fries and their famous grits. Both right on the mark and complimented the sandwich very well. The staff were very friendly and our waitress continuously checked on us throughout the meal. They also have a lean menu available on request in case your trying to watch the waist line. The eatery offers call ahead seating, which I would highly recommend as it seems to be a popular place. Bon Appetit!

I hate to write a bad review on this place as it was truly excellent on the first visit, but I came here with my Mom yesterday and it sucked! The service was GOD AWFUL, our server didn't even know how to SMILE! And this is supposed to be a " Christian " restaurant?? My mom and I both ordered the grouper alexander. The grouper was like eating a rubber tire with some seasoning on top. Seriously! And it was cold! Infact, everything was cold! Even the former delicious hush puppies were cold on this visit. And here's a little secret... On saturday, they serve lunch ALL DAY! But they won't tell you that! You have to ask for the lunch menu. On the lunch menu, the grouper alexander is only $11.90. On the dinner menu, it's $21.90 or something in that ball-park. And it's still a lot of food! I'm certainly glad we ordered off the lunch menu and not the dinner menu as it is drastically more expensive and most definitely not worth the price. Even at lunch prices it wasn't worth the price for what we got. My Mom and I were really looking forward to coming back to Jonah's and I can honestly say we were extremely disappointed and will not be coming back anytime soon!

Fresh, quality food. Good, prompt service. Everything we ordered was great. Will definitely be back especially for grits, hush puppies, crab cakes, fried green tomatoes and fresh salads. It's busy, but they are expanding. We made a 30 minute drive from Tallahassee and will definitely return!

Ordered green fried tomatoes ( yum), side salad and shrimp and grits over a bed of roasted veggies and a hush puppy. it was all delicious and fresh ... so good I didn't want to stop eating even though I was about to explode. Highly recommended. Friendly staff. There is a reason there is always a wait to get seated. :)

Okay, we're far from the ocean, or at least pretty far but I gotta tell you, this was a good choice. The main courses were great but what won me over were the hush puppies. They reminded me of Kryspy Kreme doughnuts. Outside goodness with inside buttery perfection. I had a hard time not filling myself on those alone. Service here was very good and like I said, the main courses were really good. It is worth the wait you'll have to endure if you come late. This is one of the two most popular restaurants in town. It is not unusual to see a crowd milling about out front waiting for a table.

  • Kristen H.

Maybe my expectations were too high. After hearing wonderful things about the shrimp and grits, I thought they were good but not great. I couldn't taste the "northern cheddar" that was lauded as the big highlight of the grits. The vegetables were good and my husband liked his Caesar salad. I also had the grouper chowder and it had a weird aftertaste - kind of tasted like blossom sauce that you get with a blooming onion at outback. Not my favorite. Note to future diners: while the outside seating might seem quaint, it isn't worth the literally hundreds of flies that buzz around you and your food while you eat. Sit inside!

I know I'm not a gourmand but I do know good food and I was very pleasantly surprised at both the quality of the food and the service. I was also informed by a local during my business meeting that Jonah's had gotten a nice review in Southern Dining(?) magazine. Other sites are also very complimentary. Thanks to the Yelp reviewers for steering me here. I would never have found it without online help! I had Shrimp & Grits which were spectacular and almost to much to eat, maybe because I had a cup of Grouper Soup (a little spicy and oh so tasty) and a couple of light and tasty corn fritters. Overall a great dining experience. I got in immediately but I was warned that most evenings and weekends the line can run 45 minutes. I'd still wait.

If they served wine or beer, I'd give them 5 stars. The food deserves a 5. We had hush puppies with homemade honey butter, grouper chowder, clam strips, then I had this dish with Parmesan crusted blackened mahi, grits, collard greens,in Tasso ham gravy with fresh basil. Outstanding. Just everything obviously fresh and made with care.

I do love Jonah's, though I almost always have a glass of wine at Sweet Grass around the corner beforehand, seeing as Jonah's does not serve alcohol. The food is always fresh and fantastic. Love the cyclone shrimp and the wraps with the fresh vegetable selection as a side.

  • Patrick W.

How anyone in their right mind could give this under five stars is beyond me. If you eat here and don't like it you shouldn't even be able to eat. You clearly do not understand how to utilize your tongue's potential. Matter of fact, don't even do anything tongue related if you don't like their shrimp and grits. No rapping like Bone Thugs, no talking to your Daddy about not being able to visit on his birthday we gon have to reschedule. Ain't no licking lollipops or la la laing to your favorite Supremes or Al Green song. Just go home and eat yr hungry man frozen dinners little boy. The crabcake sauce is DIVINE.

My wife and I spent this past weekend in Thomasville with friends from Florida. I had heard about Jonah's from friends, so we decided to try it. We were not disappointed! Jonah's is the real deal - wonderful food and attentive service. The fried oyster appetizer was fried just right, and the Grouper Alexander entree was superb. A side dish of delicious cheese grits and a basket of hot hushpuppies rounded out a great meal. Jonah's does not serve alcohol, but I heard no complaints from the patrons who were scarfing down their meals! We will definitely be back during our next visit to Thomasville.

Based on food alone, this could be thomasville's best restaurant. When you factor in value, it's a shoe in. I really only go at lunch but for around 9 bucks you can get several quality sandwiches or a personal fav, the peachtree salmon with roasted veggies.

Saturday was set aside for a trek to Thomasville - it's Christmas season and I'm not a fan of malls. Intentions were to go to our perennial stop, Savannah Moon, but we decided it was time to branch out. Queried a few of the locals, and The Plaza, Jonah's, and George and Louie's were offered up as good bets. Our choice - Jonah's Fish and Grits. Lunch was a short wait, and the dining room was crowded. As usual I surveyed for cleanliness - surprisingly very clean for near the end of lunch service. no lingering trash or food scraps on the floor, and when I visited the rest room it was being cleaned. In the middle of the day? That was a first for me. Kudos to the staff. But this is about food, not bathrooms, so on we go. Fish and Grits was intriguing, but the prevailing suggestion was shrimp and grits. My lady and I both ordered the same, and I added a fried green tomato appetizer to start. In the area restaurants we usually end up with the main entree delivered hot on the heels of our app or salad. Somebody here has a clue - entrees weren't prepped ahead of time. The tomatoes arrived screaming hot, topped with balsamic and feta, garnished with roasted red pepper. A proper presentation for sure. And dual plates were proffered without having to ask. The main entrees were served shortly after the app plates were cleared. The FGT's were indeed well prepared. Lightly breaded, the flavor of the tomato came through. Not the grease soaked over breaded version I regularly experience. Definitely recommended. The Shrimp and Grits were quite good. The grits mingle with white cheddar and and cream are served over roasted veggies - squash, zucchini, red bell pepper, and onion. Sauteed shrimp were piled on top, and the dish was top dressed with bacon pieces and chives. It may sound heavy, but the cream sauce is light. We delightedly ate every morsel (but I planned ahead and left a few shrimp to use for collecting the last few grits and dollops of sauce!). Service was well above average - our server wore a nice smile and regularly visited the table to ensure all was well. Is it the best restaurant in Thomasville? I haven't visited all of them yet, but my experience tells me it's got to be bear the top. Is it worth the trip? Yes. We plan a few additional visits to sample other items to round out this review.

Good spot! FOOD: Lots of good Southern-style seafood. Everything is pretty solid, and the shrimp & grits are a highlight. SERVICE: Fairly friendly service. Quick-- almost too quick. I wish things moved a bit more slowly here. ATMOSPHERE: Casual. Nothing special. Just some tables and chairs. The food is the star here-- not the atmosphere. SUMMARY: Really, I'd go 3.5 stars here if I could, but given the choice between 3 and 4 stars, I'll go with 3.

I could do without the religious rhetoric and would love the place more if they offered beer and wine, but I must say, the shrimp and grits were absolutely fantastic! I went with a friend for lunch and we shared one order of shrimp and grits and a salad. The kitchen staff was nice enough to plate them separately for us.

Three gripes & you're out. The place is cute, pretty decent atmosphere. You can tell they put some thought into it. Although, it was strange that only some of the tables had white paper tablecloths- why not all? 1st Gripe: Nothing on the menu was marked as local. ??? Umm, you live in farm country! Get some local meats, cheeses (Sweet Grass Dairy is IN Thomasville!!), or vegetables. 2nd Gripe: Then I flip the menu over. Nothing. I glance for another menu on the table. nothing. No alcohol. Not even wine. boo. I ordered the shrimp & grits. After reading the reviews on yelp and knowing that this place markets itself as a "fish & grits" place, I figured that was the best choice. 3rd Gripe: I asked the waiter where the shrimp were from. The waiter said they were from Asia & farm raised- meaning they are frozen to hell. Yeah.....So you decided to market yourself as an upscale seafood place in South Ga and you cant even get some fresh caught gulf shrimp??? You're killing me here people. My friend got the honey glazed pork chops with slaw and mashed potatoes. The pork chops were overcooked and tough, the slaw was just ok. There were big portions of both dishes, but when you don't really like it that isn't much of a bonus. Overall, I will not be returning to Jonah's. Food was not that good and definitely not worth the price.

Really good fish here. I had fried oysters as appetizer and had a nice size portion. Main dish was blackened shrimp and scallops. Was very good. Portion size was a bit limited, I thought, but good in taste. The french fries...ok. Just right service. Prob would not return however.

We always stop in Thomasville when heading to the beach and have lunch at Liam's, but we just missed the brunch yesterday so we went right next door to Jonah's. The food was just ok, but the service on the patio was terrible, as were the swarms of gnats. They gave us a fan to try and help keep them off, but basically I spent the whole meal trying to keep them out of my 4 month old's eyes.. We were also told that items were written up wrong on the menu and when we asked for the salad dressing as listed our waiter was a bit of a pain about it. And when our salads did arrive the 3 of them looked very different in topping amounts even though we all ordered the same thing. They also don't serve any alcohol, which is crazy. What goes better with some fried fish than an an ice cold beer? We would have moved inside to get away from the gnats but it was packed (for some reason). We also had to wait in line for the single bathroom they have, which DIDN'T HAVE HOT WATER IN THE BATHROOM SINK which was the final straw. Next time we will keep driving.

Nothing fancy here. Just the most solid down home great food you will have in Thomasville. Small joint so seating is limited, be prepared for a short wait. A true 5 star spot here. Very fresh and very hot. If you like fish this should be your stop, it's a no brainer.

Really, really good. Just go, you won't be disappointed. Very nice, relaxed atmosphere. Best fried pickles I've ever had and I order them everywhere. The fish and grits were so savory, buttery and fresh. I also tried the crusted fish sandwich. It was perfectly cooked, crunchy and tasty. Service was attentive and friendly.

I was a little hesitant that I would have a great meal during my trip here to the Deep South. When we found Jonah's, I was greatly surprised to find such a great spot. We have eaten there two times this week during our visit. The fish is fresh and cooked perfectly (grilled), the hush puppies are crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside and the grits are done just right. This was a great departure from the fried foods and BBQ around. Their sides are scrumptious too. Clean Plate Club kind of a place.

By far the best restaurant in Thomasville. If you want to impress your date, spouse, or friends, this is the place that will cause you to look very smart. Always a waiting line outside but only for a few minutes each time so don't let that keep you from stopping by. Be sure to notice the smiles on everyone's faces as they exit Jonah's after a great meal. I try to visit several times a month. This restaurant is just another reason why I'm glad I moved to Thomasville recently!

From start to finish one of the best meals I've ever had. My waiter, Charlie, was just the right amount of attentive and friendly. The hush puppies they brought out were the kind I grew up with, not sweet but moist and delicious. Did not need the honey butter that came with them. The grouper chowder was the best soup I've had in forever, perfectly seasoned. The shrimp and asparagus pasta in a basil cream sauce was simply divine. The sauce was just right, not too dense, not too thin, just a hair of kick....and LOTS of shrimp. Best yet, unlike most restuarants, the tails were off. Took more than half home with me and it may have even been better the next day. All of the desserts are homemade and I tried the peanut butter pie on a graham crust drizzled with thick fudge and topped with whipped cream. Not one thing could have been improved on. I don't need alcohol to have a good meal so that doesn't bother me in the least.

Jonah's may be the best restaurant in Thomasville. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. The hush puppies, cyclone shrimp appetizer, white cheddar grits and Grouper Alexander were exceptional. We dined on a Friday evening and I would suggest arriving early. We walked in at 5:30-5:45 and were seated immediately but by 6:00 the line was out was the door. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Wow! What a treasure to find in Thomasville, GA. The gingersnap crusted salmon was great. The house salad is lovely. The wait staff was very attentive. The posting says there is no outdoor seating, but there is outdoor seating and it was the prefect night to enjoy it. I passed up this restaurant once before due to the fact that they don't serve wine, but since it is an alcohol free month for me, I decided to give it a shot. I am so glad I did. Oh yeah, the hushpuppies are amazing and the first basket is on the house.

My father lives in Moultrie, and he drives to get the Shrimp and Grits! I have to admit, living in ATL I was skeptical that these were the "BEST" Shrimp and Grits around . . . um, I a skeptic no longer. I've never tasted better shrimp and grits! The shrimp are cooked perfectly, and the grits are creamy. The veggies: OH MY GOSH. I thought when I saw them, "Ew, these are going to be soggy". When I tasted them, "Oh. My. Gosh. I. am. in. Heaven." Perfectly cooked!!!!!! Now, I haven't tried anything else that is on the menu, but really this place could serve Shrimp and Grits and that is it and I'd be happy. Ate it. Loved it. Can't wait to go back!

Great food, love the atmosphere. Has indoor and outdoor seating great friendly staff. The kids menu was cheaper than happy meal. For $4.50 my girls got chicken fingers, fries, drink, and ice cream for dessert. I ordered the fried catfish with cheese grits and vegetables with sweet tea and that wad $14 and it was worth every penny, excellent meal. Let me not forget the basket of hush puppies you get while waiting for your meal those were great. My better half ordered the special for the night wich was parmesan grouper with cheese grits and coleslaw with sweet tea for $20 he loved it specially the yellow raisings in the coleslaw. For dessert we split the creme brulee which came topped with fresh whipped cream strawberries and blueberries for $4.50 which was perfect!! Family loved it including our 4 year old and 8 year old. Our waiter was great kept our drinks topped and was very knowledgeable with menu and very helpful with the girls.

Awesome Shrimp and Grits!! I probably had 15 huge shrimp in a massive bowl of grits! I was a bit skeptical of the raw veggies in the grits at first because I'm a bit of a purist. However, all the veggies were perfectly sliced thinly so they cooked in the STEAMIN' grits as you progressed through the pound of grit. YUMMM! The bacon wrapped scallops (yes... bacon wrapped scallops! It IS South Georgia after all....) were great and their house hush puppies were fried deliciousness! The fish looked great as well! It's a great place in the heart of downtown Thomasville! Yelped beware: this is a small town, Bible belt owned restaurant that doesn't sell booze. Period.

Oh my goodness. Jonah's is a guilty pleasure to the max. Every single time I go to Thomasville I have to eat here. Their shrimp and grits are divine. Absolutely divine. Even though it can get pretty busy (especially for lunch), I have never had to wait for more than 5 minutes, which is amazing. If you're in Thomasville and need a great, dependable lunch or dinner place, this is it!

We eat here for most special occasions. Nothing too fancy but never disappointed with a meal. I prefer the blackened mahi and the creme brulee is divine. My fiance has the cyclone shrimp every time without fail. I have tasted a few other dishes and everything is amazing and very inexpensive. Go early- there'll be a wait for sure :)

The food here is solid gold. Shrimp and grits are the highlight of the place, but any of the seafood is worth your time. The service was quite good, though the kitchen did make a mistake with one order, serving an underdone shrimp, that was quickly replaced. The atmosphere is charming, though it did feel a bit stark inside. Outside dining, however, was comfortable and relaxing.

Amazing food, amazing presentation, incredibly fresh, beautifully decorated. I don't like fish, but I had a delicious in-season salad with chicken that was incredible. It was large enough that I was able to split it with my husband. Possibly one of the best meals that can be bought in Thomasville, GA.

They might deserve five stars but I have only had the shrimp and grits. I have been there 3 or 4 times but the shrimp and grits are so good that have have not been able to order anything else. The ingredients are fresh and the helpings are generous. The hush puppies that accompany dinner were also fantastic. They don't serve alcohol which might turn off some but it doesn't bother me. The service is good and the entire staff is friendly.

Truly one of Thomasville's best offerings. We go at least once a week. Great food, great value, and the owners and wait staff couldn't be nicer, or more attentive. Simply put, they just do everything right. My favorites are the Mediterranean Chicken, and the Harvest Salad with their own Citrus Vinaigrette. Highly recommended.

Lunch time again. The grouper chowder was full of fish but a tad low on flavor this time.

We were in town for the day taking a cheese making class at Sweetgrass Dairy. This was our final stop before heading back to Atlanta. So glad we did. Cute little cafe atmosphere with terrific service and great food at reasonable prices. After seating us, we were served a bread basket with 4 complementary ping pong ball sized hush puppies without any signs of oil. They were featured in Southern Living for their Shrimp and Grits over summer squash, which we ordered, in addition to a chicken breast fried green tomato sandwich with a side of cheese grits. It's all about their cheese grits! Seriously the best I've ever eaten. The shrimp was cooked tender but was missing something. Perhaps a little char or carmelization on the exterior would help with the already soft texture of the overall dish. Other than that, it was one of the better versions of this popular southern dish. The sandwich was nice- we preferred it open faced by removing the top bun. This would be a great dish without any bread. The key lime pie for dessert was made in house and fantastic. Even the sweet tea was perfect- not too sweet, but just right. The service was outstanding. From the host and hostess who seat you to the sweet young woman serving us. Everyone helped out in refilling our tea glasses, clearing the plates and chatting with us about the parts of Atlanta they were familiar with and sharing info on Historic Thomasville. They genuinely seemed like they like enjoyed their jobs. What a refreshing experience for a change.

Wow, I'm impressed! Came to Thomasville for a day-trip on Saturday and decided to have lunch at Jonah's. Heard this place was popular. The wait was indeed very long but we didn't mind much. We just walked around downtown and spent time checking out the stores nearby. Finally we sat down after about 45 mins. Service was friendly and efficient. I ordered the small shrimp and grits and my friend got the black grouper with side veggies. My lunch was phenomenal. Best shrimp and grits I've ever had! The shrimp was very tasty and the grits were so flavorful. I finished my plate in no time. My friend liked her fish as well. Overall, awesome lunch spot in downtown Thomasville. Can't go wrong with Jonah's! Will deff return.

Great shrimp and grits. Make sure to get the fried pickles. Hush puppies are nice and fluffy. The location is really nice and the decor is quaint.

We went here for our Anniversary and after waiting over an hour, we were pleased with our dinner. The salads, grits and hush puppies were delicious!! The steak was good, but not a lot of seasoning. My husband's fish was delicious too!! The only negative was that we had to sit in front window like we were on display. People sat and watched us eat while they waited to be seated. There was also a fly infestation. We will definitely go again.

I had the fish and chips here and they were great. The fish was very well cooked, and the batter for the fish was very tasty. It was not bland at all. I've found that to be the problem of other fried fish, the recipe for the batter is too bland. The hushpuppy was very delicious, the right amount of sweetness. My wife had grilled salmon and was a little less impressed but she still enjoyed it. I just wish the portions could have been a little bit bigger. The atmosphere was very casual and nice. We received friendly service.

I love Jonah's! I have been here a handful of times and it's just great every time. The hush puppies are a must. The shrimp and grits are superb. I tried one of their specials last night. It was the parmesan crusted grouper and it was wonderful. I will continue to come to Jonah's!

I can see why this place would have its merits amongst the people of Thomasville and the surrounding area, which is incredibly small, but I honestly didn't think this place was that special. I waited for forty minutes for a table on Saturday, a day which they're probably busiest on. The hostess said it would be a 25 minute wait so I was sort of over the experience before it began but I was willing to give it a shot anyway. I ordered the 5.5 oz mahi mahi with a fried green tomato and the vegetables as the side. The food came out fairly quickly. The fried green tomato wasn't terrible but wasn't the best I've ever had. I'd say it was just okay. The mahi was actually pretty good with the Jonah's sauce, which is like a remoulade. The vegetables were good and not too dry. The hush puppy was pretty good. I thought the food wasn't bad, but it was definitely overhyped. Honestly I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here. It was good while I was in the area but not mindblowing whatsoever.

I'm from Atlanta and had lunch here today and started with the shrimp appetizer, it was delicious and similar to Bang Bnag shrimp at Bone Fish. Lunch special was blackened Mahi with Tasso sauce over cheese grits with greens. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. I'd highly recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in Thomasville.

Great atmosphere and service. The sautéed spinach was very well done. The black n blue burger was prepared well and the blue cheese was not overpowering. The fish and chips were great, the fish is delicately coated and the Jona's sauce is house made and very tasty. The crab stuffed salmon was good, the salmon was excellent, but needed a little more crab to make it perfect. The peanut butter pie was delicious, not overly sweet. Well worth the wait!

Welp. That settles it. My life is forever changed. I came to Thomasville for a wedding. The wedding was actually in Monticello, Florida, but Thomasville is where we were recommended to stay by the bride, who hails from this part of the world. One of the reasons - this restaurant right here. I walked in, and I loved the ambiance. Really neat decorations and colors, old painting of the Bible story, nice tables, etc. The servers seemed to be annoyed that we came in later in the evening. They didn't try to hide their annoyance at having to sit a table of five, 15 minutes before close. But, they'll get over it. And I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'd be annoyed too, I guess. Either way - I ordered the shrimp and grits. Holy cow. They were amazing. I could eat that for every meal of every day for the rest of my life. Incredible dish. Very cheesy grits and large shrimp. The rolls with the butter were fantastic. I could fill up in those things. The prices were a little higher. Not unaffordable, but a little higher. If the staff had been friendlier, it would have been a perfect evening. But as I say - I get it. Therefore, 5 star rating from me. I hope to one day return.

Wow! We just left the beach (St George Island) and had the best seafood lunch here at Jonah's. Shrimp and grits-fabulous! The hushpuppies were so light, you'll want more than one. The grouper must have been caught this morning! Excellent service. Wish we could come back for dinner

Lunch 2 days before Christmas 11:30AM Unsweetened iced tea was enjoyable and better than most in New York City - not so acidity, and free refills was a bonus. Fried Green Tomato ($6.9/4) Crispy-juicy fried green tomato was delicious. The juice from the tomato and the fried oil with crunchy cornmeal worked a magic. The acidity from the balsamic vinegar balanced off the greasiness but I wish it has more acidity - not from the vinegar but more tomato, thicker cut, for me. Shrimp & Grits ($10.3) Under the creamy grits, it packed with medium size shrimps but it was too salty for even a salt lover, me. I was suggested to get a small and I agreed with the suggestion. it was still a bit to much for me. Not the portion but the heaviness of the grits, beacon, cheese and cream but It would be great to share as an appetizer of this size with two to three. You won't overwhelmed by its heaviness and saltines this way. It might work very well with some beers with it. Jonah's "Big" Fish Sandwich ($12.9) I only tasted a small portion. The fried fish (black grouper) was crisp and enjoyable - a nice crunch from the crust gave extra pleasure but this fish wasn't "Big". French fries were also crispy and tasty. This was good American southern foods that I will remember.

In a word: YUM. Jonah's knows what they are doing, and they do it well. We came here after Christmas shopping in Thomasville (after we scoped it out on Yelp, of course). We were, unfortunately, seated at a table right near the exit/entrance to the kitchen and the drink refill station. It was very noisy and we were constantly being passed/bumped/ "excuse me'd" by food runners. We also heard a lot of the conversation among servers (complaints, etc.) which made us a little uncomfortable. However, once the food hit the table, the only sound we heard was that of the angels singing. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer - delicious. I ordered the shrimp and grits for dinner, which blew my mind, and my boyfriend ordered the trout, which he loved. We'll definitely come back, and hope for a better table next time to complete the heavenly experience.

We were in Thomasville for a wedding, and it didn't seem like there is much to do, but we would come back just to go to Jonah's. We started off with the grouper chowder, and OMG it was phenomenal! It was smooth and velvety, with the perfect balance of flavors. We then moved on to the fried green tomatoes. The corn meal batter was crisp and actually stuck to the tomatoes, and the feta, sundried tomatoes, and balsamic provided a contrast of flavors and textures to the fried tomatoes. I don't even remember what my fiancé got, because I was too engrossed in my grouper sandwich. The grouper was battered the same was as the tomatoes, and served with jonah's sauce on a toasted ciabatta bun. I'm from Florida and I've had my share of grouper sandwiches, but this was the best I've had. Also, the hush puppies are MIND BLOWING. You won't be disappointed if you get those. We finished off our lunch with creme brûlée, and now continuously dream about driving 6 hours just to get Jonah's again.

Cheryl and I decided to make the one hour drive and have lunch here. We ordered the hush puppies as an app. They were quick, hot and tasty. Good choice. Cheryl had the shrimp and grits. They were a little different than any other that we have had. Most are too spicy for her. These were perfectly seasoned. I had a simpler order. Fish and chips. The fish was seasoned well and served piping hot. The Jonah's sauce was a treat also. We will certainly be back.

Always great good and good service. The dishes are generous, seasoned well and very fresh. Atmosphere is bright and cheery. Restaurant is very clean and the open kitchen looks calm and organized. Brought a co-worker from MI here and he raved about it as well.

Shrimp-&-Grits is to die for! For a slight up-charge I ordered the Grouper Chowder. Woozer Dowzer, it was amazing & something that I will also NEVER not get. Luckily I asked for additional spoons so the other three in our party could taste it. We gave up on "not double dipping" our spoons; it was too good to stop at one taste! We intended to go to Liam's this time, but they had a large party coming in & we didn't have reservation for a Thursday night, mid-August. It'll be a tough thing to go to Liam's & not just go back to Jonah's! But curiosity will get us of course ;) But Jonah's has yet again set the bar pretty darn high! And we are taking almost half of the shrimp & grits home, it's lusciously rich

I am a Tennessee resident and i have heard about Jonahs over and over again for the last couple of years. I have now been to this establishment twice. Every single aspect of this food is five star. You can blindfold yourself and point at anything on this menu. You will be blown away. A typical meal for two with an appetizer will cost you $60-$65, but you could not match this perfection for less than $150 anywhere else. Are there any drawbacks? Yes. You will wait 30-45 minutes to be called inside. I would wait 2 hours. It is true 5 star quality. There is no razzle dazzle, just plain 5 star food. If you go through south georgia, you must go to Jonahs. You'll talk about it for years. They have it figured out.

We've been to Thomasville several times and said we wanted to try Jonahs, but never had. Last week we were there and made time. Wow, what a meal! Both me and my husband ordered their signature dish of shrimp and grits and we loved it. Succulent shrimp restcon a bed of grits and roasted veggies with cheese. It was awesome. The only bad thing is we didn't go sooner! I highly recommend this place. Sadly they don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait. Its worth it.

For my birthday weekend, I decided to take a day-cation to Georgia to visit a winery and have lunch. I found Jonah's on yelp and trip advisor (is rated #1) and was so eager to try it--the locals suggested it also. If you decide to give it a try, CALL BEFORE and put your name on the list. We had to wait 1 hr for our table, since Jonah's and Liam's are really the only restaurants in downtown Thomasville that I had found. We ordered the hush puppies which were delicious and I had the shrimp & grits, which was AMAZING! The reason why I gave it four stars is because I wasn't overly impressed. Besides the hush puppies and grits, the food was mediocre in my opinion. I would definitely come again if I am every in the area.

Great southern hospitality and amazing food at this Thomasville gem! We headed to Thomasville for the day and were so glad we did after having lunch here on a rainy afternoon. I had the blackened grouper sandwich and my husband went with the crab cake and fried green tomato sandwich. Both were sooo good and worth the drive on their own.. Not to mention the white cheddar grits and garlic mashed potatoes. Definitely worth checking out, we'll be back!

  • Renee G.

The cyclone shrimp wrap never disappoints! If you've ever had bonefish is bang bang shrimp, imagine that and put it in a wrap. Heaven! Jonas gets pretty crowded during the lunch hour so try to get there early or be prepared to wait. Even picking up carry out takes quite a bit of time. Nonetheless, the food is worth the wait.

Possibly my favorite restaurant in the world. I have been coming here for years for Saturday lunches for the FGT chicken sandwich. The sandwich has a delicious sauce that complements the fried green tomato. The hush puppies are amazing and you can't go wrong with a side of the cheese grits or the vegetables. The service is great and I never mind waiting for a table here. The restaurant itself is cute and nice to sit in. I especially like to sit outside in the alley on a sunny day. Jonahs will have me keep driving up from Tallahassee!

Just amazing! Had to be in Thomasville for a meeting on Monday morning so we drove down Sunday night and was disappointed that it was closed on Sunday. But oh my lunch is outrageous!!!every bite amazing. The grits so good and the black grouper is likely the best fish I have ever eaten!! Just wish it were closer. I'd be a regular

During the hour wait to get in, we walked around adorable downtown Thomasville to pass the time. Once we were in, we started with fried oysters. I'm still daydreaming about them. I loved my crab stuffed salmon and he loved his blackened grouper sandwich. Definitely worth the wait! Will be back during our next trip south!

Worth the drive to come and eat. I have never had a bad meal. I love the Mediterranean chicken and garlic mash potatoes and collards greens. The basket of hush puppies they put on the table is the best I have ever had.

  • Rob C.

Totally worth the drive from Tallahassee! This little gemstone is in the heart of downtown Thomasville and I love it. All of the dishes and appetizers are full of flavor without being overbearing. They serve no beer/wine/liquor (saves me $$$ because my girlfriend is a wino) and you get to focus on the savory meals and good company. I love the hush puppies and fried green tomatoes! My only two wishes would be that they open a location in Tallahassee, and that they had a brunch menu on Sunday.

This place was awesome. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was friendly and attentive. I got the creole shrimp wrap. It was flavorful and the presentation was nice. I'm pretty sure they make their food homemade!

Blackened Tasso Mahi with white cheddar cheese grits and collard greens. Excellent choice. I stop by every time I'm in town and I have never gone wrong. Love the food and the southern flavor.

Very very good! Minus a star because some things are a little too big and greasy for my personal taste, but the salad, hush puppies, and the shrimp and grits are fantastic.

    (4)
  • Greg H.

I've never been dissapointed here. I agree with all of the comments from the 5 star reviewers. I have had a wide variety of menu items and everyone was excellent. I've settled on regularly ordering Shrimp and grits (no veggies/double bacon) or fish and grits. The common denominator is the grits they are cheese grits (Gouda) and consistently the best grits I ever get to eat.

  • Charli P.

Jonah's has a great reputation among locals for seafood. I wish we could have dined in but we were taking care of my ailing mom in Archbold Hospital, so we did take out. I got the Shrimp & Cheesy Grits and enjoyed it. Being from Louisiana, it is hard to match our culinary skills with seafood, so I can be a harsh critic. My husband had the blackened trout. He said, that is was so over seasoned that he was thankful he was used to food with a "kick". The Hush Puppies were delicious. I would probably try it again when I am in town, but dine in. Their food selections don't hold up well to take out. You need to eat this hot on the table!

  • Zei K.

So freaking delicious! Seriously. Best southern food I have had and I've been to many across the US. Locally owned, wholesome food. It is however a very Christian place so no alcohol and Christian rock music so if that's not your thing then maybe you might not enjoy this place. I'm not religious at all but the food is SO worth it! Enjoy

Excellent service and great food. The shrimp and grits are fantastic. The crab cakes are worth the trip from Orlando to Thomasville on their own. The fish in the fish and chips is grouper. I had never tired this fish before but it is excellent,

Seriously?! This place is amazing! I cannot believe this is in Thomasville Georgia. I love good food and I would go here all the time if I lived in Thomasville! I had the fried green tomatoes, fried dill pickles, and their fresh fish over grits with collard greens. Awesome!

  • Carissa S.

As everyone has stated, the hushpuppies are awesome. Apple butter to smoother on top makes it worth it. A diverse menu. Grilled, fried, non-seafood. Started with a greek salad... perhaps one of the best I've had. So fresh and quite large for a side salad. I had the salmon feature with bacon, spinach and feta cheese.I wish the salon had been cooked a bit more rare but very good. It came with two sides and I chose the spinach and veggies. I didn't like the spinach at all... not sure why. The veggie blend was very good. The cook does like cheese... everything had cheese on it... haha. Awesome meal and very fresh. Great environment and great food.

I have been to Jonas multiple times. Today I took my youngest son and daughter and my oldest daughter and my new grandbaby. We had lunch there about 1pm. It was busy but we got a table right away. I was very worries about the big stroller with the baby carrier as they only had one baby seat sling thing. They were very very nice about letting us park that huge thing right up front by our table. I have had experienced where restaurants have made moms park them elsewhere in the restaurant. I usually get the shrimp and grits with the veggies on the side (gross to me otherwise) and an appetizer of fried pickles. Those are amazing! To die for!!! Today however I was watching my carb intake so I got a half Greek salad and some sautéed spinach. Both were fantastic. Really good dressing on the salad and the spinach was obviously fresh and extremely tasty. My son got the teriyaki chicken with pineapple. It was a large portion. 2 breasts. He ate most of it. He did say it was dry and it did look like it. My vegan daughter got fries. As always. It would be nice if they offered something else vegan. And my vegetarian daughter had fries and cheese grits. They both loves the crus and ate them all. The grits were mostly consumed. The staff are for sure fabulous and very very friendly. We will go back over and over again.

Wow! The hush puppies and crab cakes were fantastic. My wife had the salmon and it was great too. The atmosphere was good old time southern hospitality with gospel music in the background. I will definitely come back any time I am in the area. Myra was an excellent server. Five stars in every area.

We ordered the bowl of chowder as an appetizer and it was tasty. Awesome hush puppies were brought out while waited on our meal. (We got there at 5:15pm and got seated immediately, however there was a line of people waiting outside to be seated by 6:00pm.) For the main course one of us had the signature "shrimp and grits." It was absolutely delicious with vegetables underneath the grits. There had to be 15 shrimp in the dish and I had to ask for a takeout box to bring half of it home. The other entree ordered was Parmesan crusted grouper which was served with grits and red cabbage slaw. That entree was excellent as well. I'll definitely be back again. Since the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol we stopped in at the Sweet Grass Diary for a glass of wine before dinner.

BOOYAH!!! an absolute must if you are in the thomasville area. be prepared to come of your wallet a little but IMO it is well worth it. get here early for lunch and definitely for dinner - there food is delicious and service has stepped up i. my last few visits

Awesome place. Especially considering the location in a small backwoods Ga town! This place could exist in Atlanta! The shrimp and grits are among the best I've ever had, and I've eaten them everywhere. The Caesar dressing was insane. And the peanut butter pie....! As you notice, I don't give 5 stars often, but this place gets it for food and considering the location too.

Went to Jonah's after a local recommended it. Should have said a seafood restaurant with adult beverages, but I'm okay without being able to have a drink if the rest is above average. Started with fried oyster app and oysters were plentiful and good. Not big in size but that seems to be an issue right now. Also tried the Grouper Chowder, a sucker for any chowder being from New England. It was just ok and I would not order again. For entrees we had Parmesan Crusted Grouper and Grouper Alexander. Both excellent except the Alexander was lacking in shrimp that was supposed to be on it:(. I mentioned it 3 times to the waitress and all she could say was that it should have had more and she'd talk to the preparers. I was like, you should be going to get me some. I had one shrimp on top. The problem was that it was so good I wanted my husband to have a try but I couldn't find one for him. The grouper was outstanding. The sides were good, esp. The red cabbage cole slaw. I tried the spinach and like another reviewer I didn't like it and not sure why. The garlic mashed were perfect. Service was probably the lowest point of our visit. Not only did the waitress not rectify my shrimp situation, but when asked how much the special was she said, "like 13 or 14 dollars," well you should know exactly. In reality it was 24$ and I knew that because it was a huge piece of grouper and there was no way it was that cheap. And lastly she was not very personable. My husband tried to defend her bc she was young, sorry, a restaurant at this price point should have better young wait staff, they're out there bc I've had them. I regret giving her the tip I did as I thought about it more. I don't understand why Tallahassee cannot have good seafood restaurants, non-chain type. Luckily it's a 25 min. Drive so not a problem to go back. I will go again, just won't have the same waitress. 4 stars food, 3 service.
