I think it's the best fried chicken in snellville.. If you are looking for a white cloth experience you won't find it here. What you will find is home cooking tastes in all the vegetables. The two best meats here are the fried catfish and white fish on wed. And Fridays and the fried chicken served every day. Fried chicken livers are a favorite for some completing the whole soul/ southern home food experience. For less than 9.00 including your drink, definitely worth the money.. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the "store bought deserts". Come on John Boys, give us home made deserts to take it to the next level!

This place disappointed me! I live close and was hoping to find a good tasty spot! The food tasted old, it was cheap so that was nice but you get what you pay for. It's a buffet but there was nothing I wanted more of. :( the waitress was friendly though.

EATER BEWARE! This place is disgusting. It's owned by Asians and the food is cooked by Asians. So this is like the few token American dishes that are on Asian buffets. You know, the stuff that just sits and crusts over. The cream corn was like corn in jello. Fried chicken was only legs and thighs, and very dry. The macaroni and cheese was dried up. The desserts were desserts from an Asian buffet. My family members got sick at their stomach from this place.

I am a frequent visitor of this restaurant. I eat lunch here minimum 1 time per week. I have enjoyed the veggies, and pasta salad. I usually have sweet tea with heavy ice. The meal is $8 and I always tip the server $2. This week, I went to the restaurant twice (Monday and Friday). The server has asked me if I would like a to-go drink and I say yes please..plus a cup of ice. Today, the nervous server told me that I can't have a cup of ice without paying for the styrofoam cup. What a shame!!!!?? My fellow coworkers also visit this restaurant weekly. But, as of today, we will not spend our money here. Today, this restaurant lost 9 of my employees due to wanting to charge a frequent customer for a cup. Poor service today! And the Asian manager did not care to make it any better---she wanted the cents!

A totally disappointing food experience, especially after driving 40 minutes to meet some friends there. If you have to dine out and can only spend $10 or less--fine--otherwise skip it. All you can eat should at least have something on the steam table that's worth eating. The meatloaf was ok, the chicken taste like it's fried in old grease, the cabbage has no flavor, greens were ok, peach cobbler was dry. I would definitely NOT go back, not even for a free meal. For people who are giving this place 4 and 5 stars, they must not be familiar with southern food at all.

*** CATFISH*** come and try our catfish again... We have fixed the problem and hopefully the taste is the same as before.... The owners have solved the problems.... Things have been obstacle here due to lack of attention to the buffet bar and manager being lazy... 1) manager not being honest with the owner 2) manager not being honest with the register: customer gave her $5.00 to give back to the owner for some reason but she ended up taking it 3) without owner's permission, she decided to make her own rules and prices 4) she munipulated owner but yet she slacked off.... So equals we got new manager who knows what she is doing and will fulfill customers needs as well as the waitresses will also fulfill customers needs. Foods has been changed as I thought them from my style of west coast...

This place makes sweet potatoes better than mine and that is saying a lot !! The food fare is pretty simple and all of it just like what you'd make at home. Country fried steak, meatloaf, chicken livers, fried fish, etc... different entrees daily but consistent, so take home a menu. The vegetables are really good. I'm not a fan of cooked cabbage, but I like how its prepared here and eat it every time. Black eye peas, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, mashed potatoes, etc.... check the online menu. All of it good. I think the restaurant is an old Shoney's. And inside, it definitely shows its age. It does appear to be clean though. Ample seating and so far no huge crowds or loud screaming children. That's always a plus for me. The fried chicken, although very good, is still a mystery. Ask one of the helpful servers which is white and which is dark meat, they'll know, because the shapes are not what I'm used to. And don't be expecting any wings because they aren't any, ever. The saltiness, sweetness, and greasiness levels are just about borderline. Which is okay for me but those on restricted diets, use some caution. This is a good fill-up place that has been pretty consistent the times we've been here. It's close, convenient, and cheap enough that the business warrants 4 stars.

The food is bland and straight from the can. Ive had better at Golden Coral. Staff are very friendly

Very inexpensive and the food was very good. I was shocked.

Cheap Cheap Cheap!.....The price is so right for my big family.... The staff is super friendly. I've never been dissatisfied with the service or food. Its always a much older crowd and its usually pretty quite. The variety of food is okay, maybe not as much as some other buffets but it enough to sit and really enjoy yourself.

I can't be as ecstatic as the other Christopher, but I can recommend (literally re-commend) John Boy's Southern cooking in the best South Korean fashion. It is plentiful, lots of variety, and consistent. Best of its kind. I have been been coming here regularly (literally again) since it was $6. It is now $8. You cannot eat at home as cheaply, or as well for that money. Consequently it is very popular with the Social Security crowd, especially early in the month. I truly believe some of them eat here 5 or more nights a week. Wednesday and Friday are fish which is actually more than 4-stars. I like Tuesday's vegetable soup. Complaints? They could cut the potatoes smaller in the potato salad. Anything else? Almost everything is made from scratch, and that helps a lot. Not white linen, but what do you want for eight dollars?

  • Christopher B.

Best Southern buffet I've seen. Much of the food is, seriously, on par with traditional homemade fare. (And it's $8 per person, including tea and tax.) The quality here is high. The clientele is normally all Southern--that's a sign. There are many regulars. Service is excellent. When my wife and I have houseguests, especially from overseas, I always make some Southern food at home, but for variety's sake we also take them out for a meal at Johnboy's. The experience there is by no means high-falutin'--as with any authentic Southern food, there's no pretense. There's a different menu every day of the week, usually with three or four different meats, always with about ten vegetable options. The fried items are prepared exceptionally well. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are probably the best days. The management and kitchen staff are all apparently either Korean or Hispanic, and more power to them, because they've managed to do what no born-and-bred Southerners have bothered (or been able) to do in this part of town: Create a delicious, inexpensive, authentic, top-quality Southern buffet restaurant. Don't let the cornpone name put you off: Johnboy's can't be beat.

Went there for lunch today for the first time...and the last. Let me say this, if you get excited by this place, you don't have a clue about "country cooking" as the sign says. Sorry...but Koreans running a "country cooking" restaurant is kind'a like a car sa lesman that can't drive. Your only choice for meats are chicken three ways, fried pieces, wings, and what I'm guessing was baked, TV dinner quality Salisbury steak, and some mystery chunks floating in gravy. They also serve some of the finest powdered, instant, mashed potatoes around. They tasted like the tap water they were made from. And you guessed it....SUPRISE... all the veggies came from the can and tasted like it...mushy, salty. icky. Seriously, the soup offering was Campbell's chicken and stars, I kid you not. The corn muffins could shatter the windshield of a Peterbilt if dropped from the overpass...dense and gritty. To top off my afternoon at good ole John Boys, was the RUDENESS of the owners. They inquired as to how things were...and I was honest. They then preceded to tell me how wrong I was and maybe I should not return. Don't hold your breath there Pops. His wife then accused me of trying a scam by complaining to get free food, all this as she is scanning my credit card, I mean, I am paying. She actually said "You try that at other restaurant but no here". The only scam I remembered was the one they tried to pull on me by calling the place a restaurant. I must say the fried green tomatoes were tasty and the service was good..the waitress even apologized for the owners behavior. She said she doesn't eat the food either...even at a discount. Tells ya something right there huh?

Let's be honest here. There are at least a couple dozen of these country style, usually Korean-owned all-you-can-eat buffets in the Atlanta metro area. For the most part they are fairly mediocre, with perhaps a bright spot here and there on their steam tables, or with staff and/or owners who seem to care about their customers. Now, when I say mediocre, I'm not talking about bad food. I am just saying that you certainly should not go there expecting a fine dining experience, either in service or food -- you basically get what you pay for, and you can fill up for a good price. There are a couple that I frequent because they are a cut above the crowd. Johnboy's is not one of those. Out of all of this type of restaurant I have been to, Johnboy's is the only one I can say, because of my poor experience there, that I will not be returning. I do not appreciate poor customer service, and I detest being lied to. Here's what happened. I asked my waitress if I could get a little bit of milk to add to my tea (yes, I know that's not the norm), like how people put milk in their coffee. She came back from asking the manager and said I would have to pay $1.75 (I THINK that was the price she quoted me). Thinking that she had misunderstood my request, I asked if the manager understood that I only wanted a small amount, like the amount that someone would add to their coffee. She went to the manager again and came back with the same answer. So I did without the milk, not wanting to cause problems for the waitress. In the larger scheme of things, no big deal, right? Well.... When I went to pay, I asked the manager (who was also manning the cash register) what was the problem with allowing me to have the amount of milk that one would use to add to their coffee. She copped an attitude and began to give me responses that made no sense, and when I said to her that her responses not only had nothing to do with my question, but didn't even make sense, she just stood there glaring at me. I asked her how did it make sense to her to charge $1.75 for the same amount of milk one would add to their coffee? Then she started to backtrack, giving reasons that contradicted what she had just said to me a moment earlier. When I pointed out that she was contradicting herself, she then started in on blaming the waitress. I asked her if she had ever heard the American maxim - the customer is always right? No response. I told her that she had no concept of how to provide good customer service, including how to talk to customers, and that I would not be coming back (speaking loudly so that the other customers, and the waitress, could hear). No response. I left. ****ADDENDUM 9/22/2014**** Wanted to share that Ms. Christina, the daughter of the owners, followed up with me and agreed that the manager's behavior was unacceptable. Ms. Christina later informed me that the manager is now gone. Because of her positive response & updates to me, I told Ms. Christina that I will definitely consider another visit to Johnboy's if I'm on that side of town and, if I do and my experience is good, I will certainly update my review. Fair is fair.

Cheap, good, southern food. What you do with your greens and fried chicken in my book makes or breaks you. Big points in both categories. Apparently 'Catfish Fridays' is a 'thing' as well...
