Where do I begin decided to visit docs with my family for a good burger ..well after it took 15 min for a waitress to even notice us and another 20 to get our drinks ,I decided to time our food order 39 min .when we finally got our food it was ice cold and dripping in grease couldn't even make a salad right..asked to speak with manager and waited 15min and he didn't even acknowledge us. This is the absolutely worst place I have ever been and will definitely be in touch with the health department .

Went there with 9 adults 3 children! My brother in law was wearing a muscle shirt they made him buy a white T shirt to wear! Our waitress just about had her boobs on your plate and her shirt barely covered her nipples!! Maybe she should have worn the T-shirt!!! The Ruben was awful and most notably no sauerkraut on it!! We did go back the next day!! My daughter and granddaughter got there first! Like the night before they were not willing to open an umbrella to shield us from the sun it could get windy and the umbrella could break!! They already lost one! If you are not willing to open an umbrella for your customers then don't have any outside!! We sat at different tables because 8 more were coming! It's next door to our hotel and we had no time to find other places!! Daughter and Granddaughter on one table! Waitress: I need to card you! Daughter: No problem!! Waitress: I need to card her too! D: she is not drinking she is a teenager??! All of a sudden they wanted to card the children because we ordered alcohol we did order alcohol the night before and they asked no questions about the children at our table!! We went to shake and fries!! Lovely waitress and great service!!

Let me start by saying I use to HATE this place because of all the smoke. I'm not smoker so ugh its the only reason why I didn't give 5 stars. Minus the smoke I love Doc's! The have cheap strong drinks, great food and some of the best entertainment. Sundays we go for Bingo its free to play, Mondays = karaoke, Friday & Saturday = live music, plus they have daily food and drinks specials. Love the staff too Ciara, Corey, & Shannon are the best :)

For my 400th review i was torn between writing a review for this little gem of a dive bar in Smyrna and Buckhead Saloon. Doc's won out because they had more reviews on Yelp (as of this writing Doc's had 74 whereas B Saloon had 62). Several years ago, I used to work very close to Doc's when my office was on Herodian Way and later on it was in one of the high rise buildings on nearby Circle 75 Parkway. Now my office is not too far from Docs (near the Silver Comet Trail) . I recently went here for a dart league match and noticed that not much has changed with respect to the interior / layout / ambience; however, the clientele is different and the retail strip plaza that has grown around it is decidedly more upscale than from what I remember from years ago. The food is still solid as ever. You can't go wrong with typical pub grub fare like burgers, grilled sandwiches, fries and wings. The house draft on the night I went was Busch. i am a fan and am looking forward to returning soon. Perhaps really deserves 3.5 stars; however, Doc's is a divey, smokey, decidedly loud Sports Bar and may not suit everyones ideal. Nuff Said.

In town for business stayed at the HIE which is like 4 blocks from this place ... Wanted some bar grub and this place delivered(figuratively)... Got wings w fries and a pitcher of beer ... The Mrs's got chicken breast w veggies and bake tater + wine ... ... Oh and on Sunday's it's free bingo night! All served by a beautiful wait staff ... ... It is a Smokey joint so if it bothers you this place might not be for you ... But if your looking for your typical smokey cheap food (but good) bingo slinging kinda place ... Check it out

Steak Sandwich that you can't beat. It's been ten years since my last meal here and it's if time stood still. The band is rocking and the food is good and hot. There is an eclectic mix of people. You would think we were in the heart of Atlanta . Drinks are cheap- it's just the way I remember it. Come to Docs- you won't be disappointed. Just keep an open mind and heart- you'll fit right in.

Want cold beer, at a reasonable price, and a little bit of scenery? Go to Doc's! It's been packed the 4 times I've come in, and the service has always been friendly and attentive. The wings are something else...sub-par when I'm sober, pretty damn good when I'm drunk...so there's that. Will definitely be back to shoot a game or two of pool, talk some shit, and blow off some steam...

I hate this place. But in their defense, I have no real reason to. The service is always quick and friendly, the patrons at the bar are either nice or keep to themselves, the mozarella sticks are good. Yeah it's incredibly smoky (like, lung cancer from second degree smoke-smoky) but there really isn't anything to dislike about the place. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know if it's the fact that there was a shooting outside or what - but I just don't like it. I still had to give it 3 stars since it really isn't their fault. I'm sure I'll be dragged back here many more times as it's open late and practically in my back yard - and each time I'll go - kicking and screaming until I'm too drunk to realize where I am.

I mean what I can say. I agree with several of the previous reviews. This is a total dive bar and oh so smoky. That has not been outlawed statewide by now? This is an all the way live turn up bar. The waitress even finished the drink of one the girls I was with when she came to the table. Smh. I read the wings were good, but did not have them as this was at like 2am that I first visited; after a Scandal Party turned early birthday celebration for a friend. The drinks are cheap! The overmixed margartia was $2.50. Jack Daniels Honey with no ice, just straight was about $5. Somebody was murdered in the parking lot about 2 weeks prior to my visit. Actually 2 people. Apparantely some guy tried to holla at this girl in the bar who was with her boyfriend. The boyfriend went to the bathroom, the random dude approached and tried to buy her a drink. She declined but he was still persistent in trying to get her. She eventually just told him off and tried to leave. Made it to her car, dude follows she draws a gun and shoots him dead. His friend goes after girl and somehow gets in her car and shoots her twice. The boyfriend watched the whole thing from afar and took off running. Okay, I may not have all the facts but it was 2am, I was little tipsy and a little tired, but I do remember hearing myself say, "Gerald, your never coming back here" while listening to the details of the story. I do want to try those wings though. It would have to be a to go order. Enter at your own risk.

The food is below average for bar food. Cooked liked they don't care. The decor was outdated 30 years ago. Dirty and smoke y.

First time at doc's the atmosphere is laid back. It's a smoke friendly establishment as long as you smoke cigarettes. I began to light up my cigar and was promptly told by a staff member that cigar smoke is not allowed, just cigarettes. Too bad I was beginning to like this place. I don't understand how cigarette smoke is allowed but not cigars. I'm feeling somewhat discrimated against. Either allow smoking or prohibit all of it not just cigars.

This place is terrible. Unless you want to drink Pabst blue ribbon and smoke. The food is below bar food quality and it took 20 miss to get service. And yes I know it's a dive bar but dang

  • William J.

I was literally kicked out of this place after complaining to management about awful service because of complaining about bad service. We waited 20 minutes for our drink order to be taken. It was my friends birthday at midnight and wanted shots to ring it in. We gave the server 22 min notice about said shots. We were served shots 12 min after midnight. I personally wrote bad svc on the receipt and was kicked out because of it. Docs is a joke. Servers and management are plain rude. Our tab was 87bucks and I hope my post takes 87 bucks out of docks wallet. That would be great. I wont be going back.

The other reviews are accurate. It is smoky. It is loud. It is divey. It is many of the things I like except for the smoke, but since that's not a law in Atlanta if I was still a smoker I would sure be happy. So yes. I had the Doc's burger and it was ok. The baked potato someone next to me had looked fantastic and I think I would try that next time. There were various sports on the tv's and I would imagine it wouldn't be a bad place to catch a game when you aren't interested in the other corporate choices nearby. Overall I wish I had more time to see the nightlife here because they are open late!

A friend and I met up here on our off day just to catch up. It's been a few years for me, as you can see. Well, as we both stepped inside the establishment, I quickly noticed that not much has changed. The smoke is still powerful as ever, but it's a given, which is why we opted to sit on the patio. The waitress was not very attentive, as she left us sitting for a good 15 minutes without even taking our drink orders. It was about 2 P.M. on a Friday and was not busy at all. Finally, she came over and took our orders. I ordered a fried fish sandwich with tater tots and sweet tea. It took a long time to come out, which was not a big deal since we were both chatting it up, but good grief. After a few bites, the fish sandwich got old real quick. I don't know what kind of minced meat "fish" this was, but it did not taste like actual fish. It damn sure wasn't fresh. I was just over this sandwich before I was even done... the taters were great. Not sure how you can go wrong with those, though. The sweet tea was pretty good, so they got that down-pat, as well. The waitress was slow to bring us water, napkins, and our check. She was nice but just slow. Eh.... this was an okay visit. I'll probably get the chicken wings or something if I come back in another 2.5 years.

I like this place as far as a good crowd mix. Love the live music and bands that play. Wings are my favorite and drinks are pretty strong. Only thing I don't like is the smoking. That smell seems sticks to you even after a shower. But if u can handle all the cigarette smoke you'll be OK!!!

    (3)
  • T O.

Doc's is an institution. In a relatively squat and nondescript building that shares a parking lot with Walgreen's sits Doc's. The inside carries the smell of decades of cigarette smoke and the look of a 70's lounge with live music available. Serving mainly a working class crowd with a staff that knows their regulars, the food is simple bar fare but cheap. The chicken wings are delicious, and they usually have reasonably priced dinner specials, as well as a bloody mary bar on the weekends (but you have to wait until after noon on Sundays). If you don't mind washing the smoke out of your clothes the next day, Doc's offers the feeling of an authentic classic bar experience!

It is what it is. To fully appreciate DOC's you need to go on a Friday or Saturday night. They smoke, the food is decent and the music is nice. Its not quite a dive but is leaning that direction which is fine by me. They don't much care about your fragrance, what bag you carry, what car you're driving or even what label you have on your shirt. This is a spot for regular people. Check your tude at he door come on in have a drink and kick it with some real folks who just want to have a good time, smoke a cig and have a cold one.

  • Tom N.

1st off you can smoke inside. This blows my mind. It smells absolutely terrible inside. We almost instantly lost our appitite. They only serve pitchers on the weekend... What the heck kind of bar is that? The food was okay, it was reasonably priced. The onion rings were pretty darn good. When our bill came it came in an American Express card holder. We slapped down the American Express and the girl said we don't take that... Again wtf? Overall our visit was mediocre at best. We won't be returning if I have any say in it.

Pretty good dive bar. The food has been really good in my experience, especially the burgers! I just wasn't crazy about the atmosphe. Odd crowd here, seems like there's a different scene of people every time I go. Also, the space isn't very well suited for accommodating live music...but they do anyway. Very loud bands + very small space = no talking to the people around you.

I don't mind a dive bar, but even in a dive bar service should still be a top priority. To say that it isn't at Doc's would be an understatement. When I have been able to get a seat at the bar it hasn't been too bad, but if there is no room at the bar and you have to get a table then just forget it. When I have gone there have never been more than maybe 2 or 3 servers on the entire floor, and it takes forever for one to come and take your order. There is no hostess, so you have to seat yourself, which is probably part of the problem. As for the food, it has been hit or miss. The quesadilla was excellent, but the French dip was awful and had very low quality meat. The Buffalo wings are good, but still below Sidelines and the Three Dollar Cafe. I can deal with the food and the cigarette smoke, but I ultimately have to recommend avoiding Doc's because of the service.

Just left Docs .... sat on the patio for ten minutes and no one came out . .went in and was told someone would be out in a minute and waited ten more minutes . ..left because apparently they don't need the business . .worst service ever ...in general they are slow but at least they would come out to take your order ...will not be going back

As the country/western lyric goes, "I've got friends in low places". Doc's is that low-key, casual spot where people drink, eat late-night buffalo wings (w/o the constant up-sell like franchise staff), watch sports, and maybe even listen to live band. Surprising salt & pepper mix of demographics which is good, it really feels like the local hole-in-wall, watering hole. Smoking is allowed indoors & damn near encouraged as there is a cig vending machine in the back. Enough TV's and friendly servers means ESPN and whatever else is buzzworthy enough to merit a request and audience (gameday, NASCAR, etc). Open til 3~4am. Enjoy.

If you are a smoker, you might like this place.... That should be enough said, but it gets worse. Not only does the place smell like an ashtray, the waitress was not very friendly, the food was nothing impressive (My friend's wings came out with brown lettuce as garnish and dried celery). Went for lunch and 20 minutes later I could still smell the smoke oozing off me, so I had to go home and shower. I will not be back.

Pool tables, tasty drinks, nice waitresses. A coworker invited me to this place for some after work drinks. I enjoy myself! Drinks: I had a the Texas Margarita. It was really tasty and pretty strong. The other girls were having mango frozen margaritas. They liked them. Service: The waitresses were really nice and super on target for getting us drinks before our drinks went empty. Atmosphere: Good mix of people all having a good time. I'll be back to play some pool and maybe some Ms. Pacman!

Over the years, I've heard about Doc's millions of times - but finally ventured in for the first time last week. It's definitely a dive - but Doc's embraces it "dive"yness - it's not trying to be something it's not. All the servers were friendly (while I was there waiting on my food - not one person walked by without making eye contact and smiling and or shouting hello.) I ordered a burger and fries - and a chef salad. They completely botched my order - and my salad - no comment - let's just say I got exactly what you'd expect if you are crazy enough to order a salad at a dive. But here's why they still get three stars. The manager came out and personally apologized for the mistake with my burger and the condition of my meal. I declined the offer to prepare it again because I was in a rush - and opted only to purchase the salad. He discounted my to-go order even though I told him it wasn't necessary. Color me impressed. And it wasn't just the discount. He was just so sincere while talking to me. He invited me back and asked me to give them a chance "to make this right." He raved about the various nightly specials and talked about trivia nights, etc and drink specials. And how they're open until 3am - full kitchen. You can tell he really cares about his customers and this restaurant's success. After reading the other reviews - I should have done that beforehand - I'm going to have to come back here and order one of the crowd pleasers - I'm thinking a quesadilla. I smell a four star review in their future.

I travel a bunch to Atlanta and this is usually the only place open late at night. The first time I came here I was taken back in time and for sure a place out of the West Coast...you can smoke in here! I grew up around people who smoked so even though I don't like it I don't get super freaked out like some people and if you have ever been to Europe you have to get over your smoking phobia real quick. My experiences at Doc's have always been pretty good, but not great. The service is ok and the food is pretty good so that moves it up for me to the 3 star. Don't be expecting high end bar food here people this is a burger, fries and wing place. They have lots of bar food options and that's what I would stick with. I have tried their spicy buffalo chicken sandwhich and curly fries(they have 3 versions) all are very good. I have also had a burger , wings and some staple onion rings...like I said stick to what you know. Lastly they have nightly beer and drink specials which are always a great deal and lots of TV's to watch a game.

It was unbearably smokey in there to the point that my fiancé and I left before being seated. We were not greeted by the staff when we entered. Haven't tried their food and it's unlikely that I will. I'm not pleased with the atmosphere or service and there are many other places that offer more and do not smell like stale Marlboros.

I don't recommend anyone to go to this establishment. The food is good for the price you pay. However, the customer service is HORRIBLE. If you did want to place an order for food/drinks, the waitresses that work there will easily convince you to literally say "FUCK IT" because their attitudes are HORRIBLE and you will walk out. Not only will you leave PISSED OFF but you will reek of smoke since this is an smoking establishment!! The waitress named Mariah is sassy and VERY RUDE!! The other two waitresses, which are white, are just as disrespectful as if they don't want to take orders from the black customers!! Yes I said it.. This establishment can be racist. However, if you glance over the crowd on a Monday night, which is Karaoke night, then you will see that it's predominantly black. So the black patrons are helping to bring plenty money to this establishment. The Karaoke on Monday's is a joke now since the old Dj is gone. The current one has no control over his show. He stays just as drunk as the customers, which is very unprofessional. Please don't try to contact the manager about your experience because you will be waiting on the phone because no one ever comes to the phone. At one point, I did like coming to this establishment BUT I want to thank Mariah and the other white waitresses for helping me make the decision to NOT COME BACK!! As far as management, PLEASE teach your waitresses about customer service because it is US customers who help them get a paycheck.

This place is pure CRAP!!! The bartender is rude as hell. I waited till he was done chit chatting with his friends and he still ignored me. A lot of cigarette smoke, almost everyone is smoking in here and I do not smoke. I wouldn't be back here, first and last. The music is good though. I went on a Wednesday night and they played alternative soft rock music. I can only give them one star and that is for the music. They need to train their staff better.

Went here late night on a Tuesday. This was my first time here and the first thing I noticed was that the place has a strong odor of cigarettes. The smell went away and I couldn't notice it after sitting there for about 10 minutes though. On Tuesdays they had a deal for $5 mixed drinks with absolute vodka. I ended up getting three throughout the night and was pretty tipsy by the time I left because the drinks were pretty strong. I started out with the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and it was really good, probably the best I've ever had. I also ordered a chicken philly which was pretty good too. The only complaint I had was that the food came out almost the exact same time as the appetizer. Overall, I enjoyed visit and would definitely visit again. It's open until 4am so it's a good place to go after the club or for a cheap late date.

I wish I could give this place less than one star because not only did our lips never eat any food, our ears never heard, "hi, welcome to Doc's, can I get you guys something to drink?" That's right, we came in, headed to the patio where there was already a group of folks having fun and eating, and a waitress who said, "Your server will be right with you." Yeah...right. 19 minutes later, nothing. We were out. Never to return again.

This is a tale of two reviews. If you are a 1980's chain smoker, you will love this place. No worse feeling when you have on some good clothing and banging cologne , you come out smelling like a train engine smoke with your eyes burning. It smells up in there. Bring a mask. On the other hand, the drinks are cheap! The wings are probably top 10 in Atlanta. Place is full with old hags and past their prime people who normally are just chilling and relaxing with a drink. This is #Teamdive Bar all the way. Did I mention that the wings were official? :) Grade: C

  • Candice D.

I wish I could give this place less stars because it is terrible. The service is pathetic, patrons get plastered and drive home, and if you complain they will blame you and not take responsibility for their employees lack of professionalism. I encountered one really nice bartender but that was it. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. It reminds me of something in the deep country that you would see on television.

Went there last night (jan 28) had to walk because of the ice and snow. They stayed open to make sure stranded motorist would have somewhere to eat... Plus I'm sure they made some good money. Besides all of that they had great choices on the menu and my buffalo chicken sandwich was great! They put a huge piece of chicken on an amazing bun. I got curly fries which were obviously yummy! It's a bar atmosphere music, drinking but it's very classy! Loved it!

Okay, I'm a little obsessed with this place. Sure, I live within stumbling distance, which makes it even better, but Doc's really stands alone in the dive bar category, and I'll tell you why. HOLY GOD THE QUESADILLA. There is nothing, anywhere, in the whole wide world, that could ever be bigger, better, and more filling than the chicken quesadilla. It is MASSIVE. Easily enough for two people, possibly three. Cheesy, chock-full of stuff (including some fairly spicy pico, all things considered)... and I wanna say they cut it into, like, 8 pieces. EIGHT. That's how big it is. The burgers are depressing, but the wings are delightful, and you MUST try the sour cream fries. They are served with some thin, slightly watery ranch, but they're fantastic on their own. As far as the specials board goes: if you ever see Peanut Butter Pie on there, order two pieces and take one home with you. Mega-ultra-extra delicious, to the max. I never get there in time to get more than one piece, because it's always gone. Sad panda. :( Be prepared to smell like smoke for two days, even after a shower. Febreze your clothes, and move on with your life. It's worth it for the really (and I mean REALLY) strong drinks, rowdy mid-life crisis victims, and the sheer fact that it's open until 4. For real. If you can reserve initial judgment, and not take your dining experience ever so very seriously, you will have an awesome time here, if for no other reason than it's an interesting place to people-watch and get stupid-drunk on some stupid-cheap beer with some just-plain-stupid folks. Because everyone gets a little stupid after midnight, anyway. Even me.

I ate here with two dining companions the other night at the recommendation of it being a sports bar by our concierge. I can't really say that it is a sports bar but that is not their fault. They did have the braves game on all of the TVs and there were a fair number of them. We asked about getting the playoff hockey game on one of them but it never happened. I decided to start off with the garlic cheese bread, the sampler and a Busch. Normally I wouldnt drink Busch but for a buck fifty, I figured why not. The garlic cheese bread was good and ample. The sampler was decent but greasy with the fried artichokes being very good. For dinner I decided upon the buffalo chicken sandwich with the hot hot wing sauce. It wasnt anything spectacular but was good enough. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here in the future. It is sort of a dive bar with bar food and cold cheap beer but if that's what you are looking for then this is a good place.

Really, a 2.5 - but as Mahsa G said, I'll be generous. This is a dive. I love dives. However, you need to go here for the right reason: drinking. Do not go for the food like I did today with coworkers. Slow, mediocre and, yeah...just all-around off. We were nearby and needed a quick lunch and it - wasn't. We ended up having to get most everything to go after a 30+ minute wait for sandwiches and a patty melt done wrong (sub a chicken salad....ok) and a well-meaning manager who came out to address the patty melt problem, but then didn't follow through on the promise of the replacement chicken salad coming out right away with the other two sammys. Ok... The quarter of the chicken club I had was - ok. Not bad, not great - ok! Oddly, I got cheese curly fries (I didn't ask for cheese) which were tasty. My boss got a club sandwich with chips and it looked good. Overall, average on the food. Ultimately . . . Very smoky, and a place I think best meant for late night drinks when in the area.

Welcome to Docs a place where you can be yourself and lay your hair down and lock up your boots! The staff here gets to know you and they start to remember your name and regular order. From wings to beer this sports bar has it pack for a mixture of a crowd. Pool, darts, tv watching the game, chilling with friends, or just simply enjoying yourself at night---go to Docs! Live Band and good vibes

Wish I could put .00008% of a star here. This place sucked. The inside looked like the inside of Captain Jack Sparrow's ship. Totally smokey inside so we sat outside. After 10 min our waitress (an extra from either the Walking Dead or Breaking Bad) finally came around and asked what we would like to drink without offering us a menu (while seated at a table). After flagging her down again and requesting one we were able to browse their menu that somehow doesn't manage to include prices for the drinks.... Do the prices change depending on the night? Aaaannnnyyyyywayyy. So we waited for about 10 mins and still no drinks (2 coronas) another group of women get seated across from us and the bartender takes their order and drinks arrive in a jiffy! ( I forgot to mention they were chatty and knew each other on a first name basis) another 15 mins and still no drinks.... So we just walked out. It's my opinion but Doc's needs a prescription for some getittogetherzine.

have been to Doc's many times in the last few years and the food has been good.. Two weeks ago 5 friends and I went to Doc's for lunch .The place was empty and we still had to wait 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Today 3 friends and I went there to give it another try and after 25 minutes I went to the bartender to see if there was a waitress working. The bartender told me I had to be kidding that the waitress didn't wait on us since the place was empty and she would:"fix it". After waiting an additional 10 minutes of watching the big loud waitress laugh at the bar , we left. Never Again....

I love their wings! Doc's is a really nice place to go to when you want to really relax in a lively atmosphere. Always fun at the poker table too!! The service is really good, the folks are cordial and attentive to their patrons.

I knew a lot of ppl who have gone here so I went here for New Years. After going to a family friendly place earlier we wanted to get some drinks. When we all sat down at a table the waitress came up to take out orders and we needed time so we ordered waters. After 45 MINS OF WAITING FOR OUR SERVER TO RETURN I saw her and reminded her about the waters. She said they don't give water out tonight bc we have to order something. I reminded her that she never said that when she took our orders and asked for the manager. He came and listened to me calmly explain that I was going to order something once she came back with the water but his response was "we obviously aren't going to make you happy tonight so have a good night" ...then said "who comes to a bar and orders water? I don't need your business"....I WAS SO SHOCKED as a woman I like to have water when I drink but as a manager he never once apologized for the wait or the lack of communication. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!

This is such a dive bar. Not that I have anything against dive bars... The only reason I come here every so often is because my friend loves it for some reason. At the time, she was a smoker so that could be one of the main reasons. I think the other reason is just nostalgia. The few times I've been here the food has been mediocre and the service is either really bad or just okay. I wouldn't go back unless it was somebody else's idea and they drag me there.

Awful. I called about a friend who had left unexpectedly. They told me they could not ask around because they "don't do that. " I asked them if they could possibly use their PA system to ask if my friend was there. He had left and we were worried about him. The said they didn't care and hung up on me. Their food is sub par and service is awful. They didn't need to be rude upon a simple request. Stay away, they don't care about their patrons, let alone regulars. Spend your money else ware.

I've been here twice. The first time was to see a band play. It is tremendously smoky inside which I find to be uncomfortable and digusting. Second time I sat on the patio and what a difference that made! Not the greatest patio due to its location in the parking lot, but at night the area quiets down a bit and can be quite enjoyable. The wings (lemon pepper naked) were pretty good. The carrots and celery on the side were old and dry.The side salad seemed like a bagged mix, but the bacon crumbles on top were from real bacon, not those fake bacon bits. The caesar side my bf had was soggy. Beer pitchers on the weekend aren't especially cheap, but not expensive either. We both had the prime rib dinner. $8.95 for a princess cut, side starch, and the salad. We both had a baked potato as our starch. The prime rib was better than I expected and the baked potato was huge. I'll definitely be back to try the other specials, as long as there is seating available on the patio that is...

New Years eve, I see a lady in distress, the bar is closing my friend works in law enforcement helped her & her best friend earlier get into a cab because her friend was totally intoxicated. I asked was she ok she says no the cab driver ask me where to & I told him the Waverly hotel(expensive) but right across the street. He tells her $50, she said wow that's a lot so he gets angry drives back to the bar puts her out drives off with her friend still in the car with another strange man! So we ask the bar manager can you call the cab company that you called so she can find her friend & then call the police, the manager says to the lady well you know its your fault! She burst out crying again, I said it's not her fault, he said you need to mind your own business or you can handle it, so I'm like what? I guess he thought I was intoxicated but little does he know I am the designated driver I am drinking water! Your Bar had a murder here 4 weeks ago, so he is trying to put the heat on her! All he had to do was call the cab company & get the name of the cab company or talk to the supervisor there. Anyway we find out her friend was later found outside Doc's parking lot face down, & by the grace of god a lady that happens to be a nurse found her helped her & paid another cab driver to get her home! I wish I knew the name of the cab company, but just the pure ignorance of this short white man who is the manager at Doc's after 4 years of patronizing this establishment and being a black woman, I will NO LONGER spend my hard earned money here again! That was the last straw!

ZERO stars! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The service is horrible, the place is a dive and the food doesn't make it any better. I'm not from Atlanta so when I arrived in town late I didn't have many options and decided to go to this place. Worst decision EVER! I got robbed at gun point when I walked out of the restaurant by some other customers (who mixed in well with the crowd). I would not recommend anyone go here. If you are looking for a late dinner or late night snack, go somewhere else.

And I quote: "Let's get our check. And never come back." I'm going to get the story straight. I came here for lunch with my friend on a "time crunch". Having read Yelper reviews, I was prepared to order for my friend while I waited on her arrival. I also knew that even if I were lucky, the service was going to be slow. Which is sort of pathetic when your salad looks day old, and thrown together by a one-armed lady or gentleman. I ordered my friend a beer for when she got there. Yeah, I'm a sweetheart (who also takes direction well). When our waitress approached us, she saw my friend drinking her beer. She scolded us with a motherly bad-attitude. My friend showed her ID, and it was fine. We made no commentary. I'm not sure what I expected, but maybe I should have sat at the bar to avoid 21+ confusion. Since my friend was breaking from her corporate job, I didn't want us to be surrounded by smokers, even though we were fully aware of the inevitable dive atmosphere. We came for the great lunch specials, cheap beer, and well.. something else. A third...gosh I can't remember.... Ha ha.. Oh yeah, the Scoutmob. Which our waitress completely botched. We got our check and it was double the original price. OUCH. Manager? We did our best to be grateful consumers, but there was something fishy in the air... and definitely in the bathrooms. Yikes.

Total no frills dive bar, next time I'd definitely pass on the food although the lunch specials are almost all under $7 ( I see the reason for that now). I met a friend here for afternoon drinks, and was surprised to see the drink deals which are pretty awesome. some days they have $1 beer! They are open late ( either 3am or 4am) so if you are looking for a spot in Cobb that is open late it's worth a shot.

VERY much a neighborhood pub. Cheap and local with friendly regulars. Don't be surprised if you end up in some lively conversation if you grab one of the many bar stools. The place is smokey and divey but it is a BAR. No crying children here. There is a pretty good lil patio with seating if you want to escape the smoke. The food is surprisingly good and they have a pretty extensive menu. Many daily specials too. This day they had free food for happy hour even. They even have arcade games and a couple pool tables if you are so inclined.

My flight was delayed last night and I got to Atlanta around 11:30pm, so after getting ready to go out it was already 1am, and it didn't seem like such an awesome idea to trek into the city from the weird-ass suburban hotel and chain store-land that is Smyrna. So, we hopped across the street to Doc's. And it's a good thing we did, because I met the new love of my life, Elizabeth, the pretty bartender who pours a 'normous whiskey shot and is friendly-as-hell. Swoon. Okay so, maybe I puked up a bunch of whiskey in the bathroom and never said anything about it. Maybe I did. I only ate a salad all day and was really tired from traveling... and like I said, Elizabeth gave us a "shot" (basically, a short glass) of whiskey, and others bought shots and beers for me as well. So I mean, you know. Everyone says this place is a dive, so I suppose its expected that you randomly decide you need to become less drunk in a bathroom stall with no lock. Honestly, though, I didn't think this place was a dive at all. It just seemed like a local bar... I feel like it would have to be smaller and dirtier to be a dive. I was told there would be cougars here, and there were not - so that was a little disappointing. However, I really loved the diversity of the clientele and how busy it was without being packed. It's weird that you can smoke in bars in Georgia, but just because you can, I had to have one cigarette with my Yuengling (and apparently with my massive amounts of whiskey). That could have been what pushed me over the edge. Or it could have been the fact that because I am as Northerner as it gets, I kept feeling like I was at Merlotte's from True Blood. So many locals with beautiful accents talking about their trip to Chattanooga (who knew that was a real place?! Who even knew the south was really and truly real?! It's so amazing!). I liked this place a lot, I just wished it wasn't in the 'burbs.

Haven't been in a couple of years, but I assume it hasn't changed since it didn't change a lick in the ten years I went there when I lived in the area. I only visited Doc's for lunch. Great lunch place and a tremendous value. On Monday's, they used to have leftover prime rib on the lunch menu (leftover from their Saturday night menu). It was delicious. Nice selection of veggies. I don't smoke but I like the old school feel of being in a place where smoking is allowed.

Got to give mega props to this place! I was so thankful that they were open on Tuesday night when my car spun out and was stuck in the ice, close by. Since I was stranded, I walked over to Doc's. I cannot even express how awesome the owners and entire staff were! Even after they closed, they allowed the 6-8 of us that were stranded to stay so that we would have somewhere safe and warm to stay until we could figure our how to get home the next day! They even made fresh coffee and breakfast for me in the morning, free of charge. I had never been to Doc's before, but I would certainly go back with friends as it was a cool place to hang out! They also had awesome food w/ huge portions for a great price. I definitely encourage everyone to go check this place out! Fun atmosphere, good food, awesome service, and very generous & caring owners!! YAY DOC'S!!!

My husband and I went to Atlanta for a wedding, this was a great local dive bar we found near our hotel. Pros: Cheap drinks Open until 4am private lot Cons: if you sit outside you might have to wait awhile for a waitress. Use cash if you can.

While traveling to Atlanta for business for two weeks I have eaten or stopped by for drinks 7 times. That would be very good indicator that I like the place. It has a full bar and good staff. The bar tends to be loud. However the patrons are friendly, the beer and drinks are good. As the food goes it is pretty unspectacular. This is an excellent place to get a drink however.

I want to give this place 3.5 stars, but I think 3 is too low so I'll be generous. You have to go into this place knowing this is a dive bar, sooooo... it wreaks of smoke and the food is typical bar food. I thought the wings and onion rings were good, but artichoke hearts and fried mushrooms were eh. The waitress was very nice and service was prompt, but we also went when it was slow (mind you, some bars have service that sucks even when its slow!). Plenty of tv screens to watch the game and they have specials M-F. We went on Monday so they had $1.50 drafts which is the ish! I live right down the road so I would go back again if I wanted a quick bite or a bar to watch the game aka they guys watch the game and I down some beers :)

I was apprehensive about this place at first but after being in here for 5 minutes, I'm a fan. The people are fun to be around, drinks are cheap and the food is awesome. We came here on trivia night and it was awesomely fun. Total dive bar but a tad above the bar. Service is surprisingly good and it's not too loud at all. I'm a fan and will come back here!

I normally am entertained by a good dive bar. This is not a good dive bar. The smoke is heavy. The decor is bad. The place clearly has not been cleaned in years. Maintenance is clearly optional. The crowd is a rough group at best.

I really wish I could give NO stars. We've been to Doc's many times over many years, appreciating it for what it is: a smoky local dive. On this last visit, we had a large group. Someone ordered shots, but they were mistakenly put on my tab. The waitress said she'd take them off. We told her we had a Scoutmob coupon, but then realized it was expired. She said she couldn't do anything about it, but suggested we talk to the manager. The manager comes over and while we're just asking if there's anything he could do, he instantly has the absolutely worst attitude I've ever encountered in customer service. He says, absolutely not, oh and by the way, you're paying for these drinks or I'm calling the police. HUHHH???!?!?!?!? There was no reasoning with him despite the fact his server made an error in putting things I didn't order on my tab. Long story short...he DID call the police. The server LIED to the police to cover her own tail. Disgusted doesn't begin to cover how I feel about that place. Our group had spent HUNDREDS of dollars in that place that night, only to be treated like thieves by an egotistical greasy rat of a manager. Even the responding police officers suggested we contact the owner directly to complain. Just don't go.

It's a dive bar with lots of TVs, so I'm already digging it. We happened in on BINGO night and I. Love. BINGO!! Apparently, so did a lot of the regulars as they took their BINGO VERY seriously. I think the BINGO announcer was slightly drunk as the pacing of him calling the letters varied from really quick to one letter every 5 minutes...and hopefully, it wasn't one that he'd already called. The food was standard bar food but slightly above-average on the tasty scale. Or at least that's what my friends said. I personally was there for the beer. Which was nice and cold. Just how I like it. Know what else was nice and cold? The whole entire bar! I understand that it's a bit older, but can we get some heat up in this piece?!?

I went here once in late June with a small group. We sat out on the porch because it was extremely smokey on the inside and one in our group was really sensitive to it. :) We had a really great time because on the inside, some band group was botching well known songs for entertainment, and our server recommended this apple cider type beer which was extremely good! (I wish I could remember what she called it). My group and I aren't big beer drinkers, but we decided to be adventurous because the server highly recommended it, and it was cheaper than the cocktails. Ok, others in my group got the chicken wings with the sour cream potatoes. That was good. I on the other hand, ordered a chicken philly steak (big fricking mistake on my part. You know how you're the one idiot in the group that orders outside of what everyone else did, and you get stuck with the less yummy dish, and everyone else is like, "aww sorry, bad luck!"). When I picked it up, it was so stuffed with...stuff...that it split the sub bun it was in. Also, the flavor was super bland. I did order it with curly fries, which were pretty good though. All in all, this was a fun place to hang out, especially since it's close to where I live. Our group plans on going back out for the Luau on this Saturday (July 14th). We'll see how much fun we have. (Drinks will help either way) We're also going to be ordering that apple cider beer whether it is or is not part of the Hawaiian theme!

Last true bar probably ever go, mainly because of the indoor smoking. I now find it strange to be able to eat and smoke at the table now... its kind of like $#!tting where you sleep to me. My friend fell in love with this place becase beers are cheap and he didn't have to freeze his ass off outside trying to smoke (during winter). This large, yet divey bar has good food though. Their hot wings are probably the best I've ever had, and their hamburger was cooked perfectly. Friend got a sirloin steak with all the fixings for $9.49... amazing. Full and 3 beers each, cost about 40 bucks.

Although very smoky, I have always had a great time at Doc's. The food is good (except for the chicken fingers and the cole slaw, which you should never order). The secret is to check the specials board. Every day, there are different specials and they are almost always delicious!! (Ribeyes, lobster pasta, lamb chops, beef stew, etc.) Prices are usually under $10. Don't order sodas because they do not have free refills. It's better to order from the bar! They have good tea though with free refills. Usually the wait staff is fantastic although sometimes you do get one having a bad night. The "people watching" at Doc's should be its own sport. Very diverse, very laid back. You see everyone from attorneys to pipe fitters to ..... You just never know what you will see. I swear I have seen a dancing dwarf with a blond on one arm and a beer in another breaking it down to She's A Brick House. Anyway, we have always enjoyed Doc's but rarely stay past 2am. Head there for late night and weekend brunch, too. Delicious!

Simply a neighborhood place with the best wings I've ever had. A good variety of lunch offerings at reasonable prices and good brunches on the weekends. Free poured drinks, decent prices and good service makes it a place worth trying out. However, don't forget, it's a bar. After 4 or so, it's smokey, loud, all kinds of characters and regulars, it is what it is. Don't go there expecting Applebys.

If you're looking for a place to just go and hang out with your rowdy friends - then you've found it. Strong mixed drinks, cold beer, good generic food are the basics but, it's the people watching and laid back attitude that makes Doc's one of my favorite places. They have pool tables and, on certain nights, a live band. Check their website for such items as bingo night, trivia night, etc. If there's a live band it's going to be loud! In the evening it can get pretty smoky in there. Afternoons are not crowded but, the evening can be. Go and have fun !

One of my favorite places to get wings and listen to some good blues played by a live band once a month. Great food! Great service! Great music!

  • Scott S.

Good local pub with live music, pub trivia, and bingo on different nights of the week and weekend. The prices are very good and the chicken wings are outstanding. They won an award in the 2009 Marietta Chicken Wing Festival. That's actually not a joke. Doc's has indoor and outdoor seating. The inside is a little dim with a haze of smoke to see through. Doc's is a little older then some other local places but it has a lot of character. The food is pretty good minus the nachos which were really disappointing. Food is served really late into the early hours of the morning. The service can be a little slow at times so I don't recommend coming here if you are in a rush. For sports fans, Doc's has a lot of TV's so watching your favorite sporting event will not be a problem. The service can be good or pretty bad depending on who you get. I am going to deduct a star for inconsistent and typically slow service. Overall, 3 stars though!

Me and my roommate went there and it was SUPER SLOW service. We ate outside on the patio, it was after trivia...the place was pretty slow and i didn't understand why the service sucked so much. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

  • Russ G.

If you don't find Doc's a cool place to just drink at, you're trying to hard. Doc's is not an upscale lounge, nor a trendy place for the young crowd, it's a smoke filled, stained carpet haven for the cougars and manthers that continue to prowl the night searching for a score of blow and sex. And that is it's allure. Sure, you could maybe get head in the bathroom with ease, but why not at the table? After all, it's Doc's. And yes, cocaine down the road at Copeland's is a better cut, but Doc's is cheaper. Seriously, I don't think there's any real dealing or prostitution going on here, I just like to make the jokes. I have been offered both here, but that's par for the course of a grungy place I suppose. Oddly enough, if you go for lunch the smoke really isn't too thick (you can see) and the food is actually really, really good. I've never had a bad meal here. And the drinks, cheap and strong. And strong. Did I mention strong? A rum and coke may come with an ounce of coke if you're lucky, and they get heavier as you drink them I think. That's good for the lushes. They have a jukebox, a live band at times, tons of TVs full of sports, trivia night, and a few other social things during the week, and I've seen a big ass roast beef flank before during the day, some buffet deal. That's cool. But the main reason to go here is to crash a few late drinks since they're open later than anyone else, assuring you of a bad hangover in just a few hours.

A long time ago, in a decade called the 90's I used to frequent this place after 2am. Holy crap it was a great way to end a Friday night! Cheesy, a classic dive, and strong drinks. My friends (guys and girls) always managed to pick up a freak or two at this place. It's amazing what a melting pot of drunk-n-horny folks this place attracted after 2am. The stories I could tell. Not sure if it's still like this. I'm older and wiser now and only stop in for a taste of their so/so bar food. Don't do it so much for the food, but for the memories it rustles up. ;-) Glad this place has stood the test of time. There are few "holes in the wall left" OTP.

Doc's reminded me of the bar that Patrick Swayzee works at in the movie "Road House." There is a thick layer of cigarette smoke during its busy hours that makes it hard to see three feet in front of you; however Docs does have some qualities which made the cigarette smoke bearable. The night that I visited Doc's Wines and Spirits I was able to get a seat really close to where the band was to perform that night. The band that I saw at Doc's that night may have skewed my opinion somewhat because they played everything from Eric Clapton to The Doors, which was right up my alley; however, it should also be noted that this band was awesome and their performance really helped everyone in the entire place to have a great time. After their performance I spoke to the lead singer/guitarist and he informed me that they played a gig at Docs' on a regular basis, so this was not a once in a lifetime thing. The beer selection at Doc's was decent. They had domestic and import. The wine selection was probably purchased from Kroger or some other Grocery store, and they had enough liquor to spare, as any bar usually does. The food at Doc's was not very good. I don't ever really expect a hole in the wall bar to ever have good food in the first place, so that did not impact my opinion. Overall, I had to give Doc's a good review because I had a great time. Doc's is definitely the place for you if you prefer the company of good music, local friendly biker guys and good customer service

I went to this spot a few weeks ago. I've lived in this area for over 6 years, passing the restaurant because for some reason it just didn't appeal to me, but because they had a coupon on Restaurant.com and after looking at the menu and what you guys had to say, we decided to give it a whirl one date night a few weeks ago. I am not smoke friendly, so I made it a point to stay ourside on the patio after verifying that it is indeed a smoky spot. There was no one watching the patio in case any guests came along or anyone right inside to notify that you were there. We decided to just go with the flow and just sat down outside and waited, and waited, and waited... some more. Finally, a waitress came along and took our simple drink orders. She seemed a little disappointed that we didn't want 'real drinks', but we don't drink. We also gave her our voucher from restaurant.com as we always do. Oh, you would have thought that this was the biggest deal she's ever encountered, she snatched it out of our hands in DESPERATE effort to warn the MANAGER that she had some folks trying to use something that they actually paid for. When she returns (without our drinks mind you) she starts to read the entire qualifications of what the coupon says. There is a LOT of text on this page, so I thanked her for letting us know, we are more than familiar with the terms as we use them at various restaurants each week at least. We gave her our orders. It took forever for the food to reach us, but it still managed to come before our drinks did. I had the ginger ale that was served in a mini-glass with tons of ice. It was not until we were leaving that we were told that there were no free refills on soft drinks, only on the sweet tea that should not be allowed to be served in the south where we take such seriously. Because of the coupon, we are required to order $35 worth of food. The prices are so low there, so it requires each person to have an appetizer as well as a dinner to use all of the funds. The certificate is good for $25 worth of food, guaranteeing that you have to pay at least an additional $10 to the certificate. I ordered the combo appetizer plate with teriyaki wings, the SO had some wingless wings (an oxymorom if I ever saw one, gimme a bone!). The SO got some steak dinner that had plenty of sides, but the steak was completely tasteless. There was some guy who just kept walking by our table over and over again, never id'd himself - but just looking at us really crazy. Becuase the steak was tasteless, waitress nowhere to be found, and food getting cooler by the moment, I went to the little station to see if there might be steak sauce (never offered). The mysterious dude saw me looking for something, offered no help, I didn't find it so went back to the table a little embarassed I had to be so bold in my search. My entree included a baked potato, side salad, and soup. I asked for the tilapia for my entree, for some reason the waitress decided to give a teriyaki topping on my fish as well, though I only wanted it broiled. I could feel the high sodium overtaking my body, so I decided to not eat the tilapia, simply go ahead and take it with me home, possibly rinsing some of the thick sauce off when I got home for a leftover the next day. We asked the waitress for a doggie bag, who shows up by the mystery guy. Apparently, he is the manager of the place and wanted to remind us that the food in the restaurant.com program is for eat-in only. We are aware of that, but he interprets this to mean that one is not allowed to take out their leftovers either. Apparently, takeout boxes are his highest business cost and providing such to folks who used that program would send him out of business shortly He goes on to tell us that he participated in the program to get business to come into the doors to come in and enjoy the food and by us going outside, we're not really enjoying it as he intended. My already high blood pressure from the ridiculous amounts of sodium in the teriyake wings was really peaking at this time and I am glad for the calm smile of the SO to bring me back to reality so I wouldn't blow a gasket. Would it have made a point to let him know that before he tricked out, we had decided to come back in a few weeks with some pals for a celebration. Would it have helped to tell him that we had been in the area for a LONG time, but it was solely due to the gift certificate that we decided to actually come in to give it a try? Nah... I think that I'll just forgo the remaining certificates that we have to go there as well, that cheap meal was WAY too expensive.
