From the time we landed in Savannah whoever we asked where should we eat everyone recommended Vinnie Van Go-Go. It was definitely on our mind since who can resist a good pizza. This place is right in the heart of where everything is 'City Market'. Inexpensive and fast service are added bonus. Between three of us we got a large half pepperoni and half mushroom and spinach. It was a perfect slice of NY style pizza for me. We walked out happy. Would highly recommend the place when you are in the area and in for a quick inexpensive meal. *Dont forget to carry cash.

What's a displaced Jersey boy to do for pizza when in the deep south? Vinnie Van Go-Go's! People from NJ know our pizza is better than NY's, but outside of NJ I have to confess that this place is like being in the Garden State. The slices are Jersey shore big, toppings are delicious and that crust - so thin and crispy. I've never had an issue with the fact you pay in cash. They have signs up all over the place that say it's cash only. The staff is friendly and the servers have always been very pleasant and attentive, especially if you are sitting at the bar. Yes, the tables are small, but space is limited in this building. You will have more space if you sit outside. The crowds and wait time will tell you that this place is popular. Can't wait till I have to drive my daughter back to college in Savannah. I think a pie to go is in order for the 14 hour drive home.

Pretty tasty, no-frills thin-crust pizza in a pie shop with character. True rating: 3.5 Upon a friend's recommendation, we stopped here for a post-beach fill-up as a part of our stroll through downtown Savannah. On a hot summer day (such as yesterday), your best bet is to choose "outside" rather than inside seating--the heat from the pizzas baking can be an intolerable addition to any existing mugginess. The outside seating is covered and offers some ceiling fans to help break up the heat. Still, though... hot baked pizza is maybe not your classic summer cool-down food. But in spite of this the patio seating area was full with folks just like ourselves who were willing to subjugate their thermal needs in exchange for a tasty bite to eat. Plus there is the amusement of staring at a big painting of Vincent Van Gogh wearing a chef's hat and apparently eating a slice of pizza, so there's that. Food itself was good. We got a large pizza (half mushroom, half sausage, for about $16) to split between the three of us, which we only BARELY managed to finish. The crust is deliciously thin, and the sauce flavorful, and the slices, as a whole, not too greasy or salty. You can also choose from an array of "spices" (waitress's words, not mine) to top your pizza, which includes red pepper flakes, oregano, parmesan, and garlic powder-- standard at most pizza places, except here they don't bother to break out these toppings into shakers and instead have these industrial-sized containers akin to what you'd find at a Costco or Sam's Club. I was tickled by the idea at first, but then reality set in. In addition to the space issues that having these various huge containers on the tiny table posed, the level of difficulty in shaking out red pepper flakes is a big step away that needed to get the same amount of garlic powder out. Plan accordingly, unless you want a garlic Gobi Desert on top of your slice. One more oddity about the pizza itself: the pie was cut into 12 pieces of varying size, with certain slices over twice as large as other, smaller slivers. Doesn't affect taste, of course, but you can't fold slices (higher potential to burn the roof of your mouth?) and good luck trying to efficiently keep track of or compare portion sizes. My biggest qualm was the wait for the food itself-- 15-20 inutes may not seem like a lot, but it seems like an inordinate amount of time for *pizza*.

This New York style pizza is pretty good. Nothing like the "amazing" reviews that are posted. I enjoyed my slice of pepperoni and walked out spending around $3.50 not that bad at all. Oh yea they only take cash. Will I be in a hurry to return next time im in the area?..I think not. At least I can say I've been to Vinnie Van Go-Go's!

Vinnie Van Go-Go's is awesome! Whenever I go down to Savannah, I want to sample all of the culinary delights that the city has to offer, but I always just end up going back to the tried and true pizza of Vinnie Van Go-Go's. I seriously think I've been back every time I've gone down to Savannah. Remember that they do not accept credit or debit cards, which I forget just about every time. They do have a convenient ATM inside though. There is indoor seating, but the way to do Go-Go's is outside. They have seating around the side of the restaurant and they also have seating in the front. This is a great location right in the middle of City Market which is always bustling. Great location for some solid people watching. The pizza here is great! It is thin NY style and really some of the best. Reasonably priced, good flavor, plenty of toppings to choose from, great crust, by the slice or pizza to share. I mean it's seriously just a win win. The sauce is good and the crust will leave you happy. It's greasy as this style normally is, but not so much so that you are scared for your arteries. I recommend ordering a large and taking some to go. You will definitely be craving it after you leave. I would also recommend getting a pitcher with your meal. They are reasonably priced as well. They have some local selections that you get in a pitcher including Swamp Fox IPA by Moon River Brewing right down the road. This place has kind of a divey hipster vibe. The service here is always good and everyone is friendly and accepting. Don't seem to have a bias against tourists and out of towners, which is always nice while traveling. If you are looking for some good pizza and a nice atmosphere in city market to have a beer and dinner with some friends, Vinnie Van Go Go's is the perfect option. I will inevitably be back. I highly recommend.

Everyone in Savannah raves about Vinnie Van Go-Go's. When a friend found out I hadn't eaten there yet, she gave me a look of pure terror. For an hour. Anyways, today was the day I would change that. I went in for a quick slice before heading to church. Here's what you need to know about Vinnie Van Go-Go's-- they only accept cash. They have an ATM inside of the store, so no worries if you don't have any on you. They also serve New York Style pizza--so none of that stuffed crust nonsense. I ordered a slice with tomatoes, pepperoni and feta. Each slice is around $2 with $0.50-0.75 for each topping. The slices are also huge! Don't over-order. My slice took a little while to cook, but these guys are making gooey goodness hot and fresh, so I cut them a break. When I tell you, this was the pizza of cheat day dreams. The Ingredients were so fresh and it was baked just perfectly. I haven't been eating pizza a lot lately, but I'm so glad I made this exception. If you're out and about in City Market, make sure to grab a slice and a brew from VVGG--after a while, typing that name gets to ya. Keep it tasty Savannah.

Why did I not write a review for this place yet?!?! I promise you every single time I visit Savannah I will eat here. This pizza was so good, and the single slices are huge and delicious and very reasonably priced. Thank you to these folks for doing it right, and keeping it real.

It's pretty good pizza but it wasn't mind-blowing. The locals love it but I personally think the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere is most of the allure of this place. Cash only, plenty of patio seating for enjoying the entertainment at City Market. On a Saturday afternoon, two of us waited 30 minutes for a table but there is plenty to explore while you're waiting. You can't really mess up a pizza, but this was kind of soggy--the outer crust was crunchy and delicious, but the rest of it was quite unappealing. I'd visit again out of convenience or the atmosphere, but I'm sure there is better pizza available in Savannah.

After a night of drinking I like to get a little grease in my belly, Vinnie Van Go-Go's is the perfect place to do that with a slice of pie. The slice here is huge! Almost the size of a whole small pizza elsewhere. Not only is the slices here big, but they are tasty as well. On a recent trip I got the build your own slice piled high with pepperoni, sun-dried tomatoes, and garlic. It was just what the doctor ordered to get my belly full and get me a little sobered up for the walk back to my hotel. In addition to the delicious pizza at Vinnie's is the great service I received from the young lady working behind the counter. She took great care of me while I was waiting on my slice of pie serving me a cold one out the case and offering some water as well.

Solid place. We ordered a classic pepperoni pizza. It was ready for us in about 15 minutes. We ordered to go because it was 85 degrees and the heat index was at 94 and this place has no AC. If it wasn't so hot, we would have definitely stuck around to people watch. If you want delivery, they do have bicycle delivery drivers in the historic district. We were just outside of the delivery area, so we picked it up. Needless to say, parking is impossible to come by, but we parked illegally by a fire hydrant for 5 minutes while we ran in an out. Luckily, parking enforcement is off on Saturdays and there was no fire! The crust on our pizza was crispy. There was plenty of pepperoni on it and the sauce was flavorful. Highly recommend if you want a thin, crispy slice of pizza! Lost a star because of cash only and no specialty pizza options and toppings are kind of pricey.

I understand that they are so busy that they don't need to worry about customer service and this typically doesn't bother me, BUT I ordered delivery and was disappointed with it. They gave us an estimated hour and 20 minutes delivery. One hour LATE we called and they showed up 15 minutes after our call. With ice cold pizza. My only other complaint is that I have on numerous occasions ordered a single slice for delivery in addition to a pie and it has never been a problem but they refused today. Their pies suck in comparison to their slices and I really hate that just bc they have so much business they feel that they don't need to be concerned with customer service. BUT like I said the pizza slices are wonderful so I'll definitely go back. Just will NEVER get delivery again.

I love pizza. But I'm by no means a pizza snob - all I need to be satisfied is some yummy crust, cheesy goodness and just the right amount of sauce. The pizza at Vinnie's is decent - I had a slice of mushroom pizza and a salad (without feta) - but after having waited for an hour and a half - I wanted AMAZING pizza.... and this didn't deliver. The hostess and the servers are great. The patio is fun for people watching; however, it does get loud, especially when you have a table full of drunk folks next to you (funny enough, our neighboring table of drunks didn't have anyone under the age of 50 at it). I would likely go back to Vinnie's - but I would be a little better prepared. I would eat a snack beforehand (I get hungry and cranky during a 1.5 hr wait), hit the ATM first, and bring a magazine/book/group of friends/hankering for pralines (the Savannah Candy Co. is next door...).

I love great pizza and Vinnie hit the spot. Restaurant: Located in City Market one might be skeptical to eat there once you see the inside. Please do not be fooled, their food is great. The restaurant might give you mixed feelings with the staff having tattoos, posters plastered on the walls, duct tape with messages on the walls, writings of randon sayings on the wall, and the dim lighting but for Vinnie Van Go-Go it works. Seating is very limited. They have about 10 seats around the bar. Some seating inside but you're welcome to sit outside in the Market. Food: My hubby wanted to order a large pizza. Very glad that we didn't. Our server talked us into getting slices and oooo boy were they huge. I got a reg. cheese slice and he got 2 slices - one with extra cheese and one with hamburger meat. We were blown away by how good they looked and how large they were. But the TASTE was phenemonal. I'm from NY and when I say this was the second best to NY style pizza i've had thus far, it was. The crust, was thin and crunchy. Their sauce was the best sauce i've had on pizza. The cheese was just right. His extra cheese was crazy - strings of cheese every where. Policies- please check the website before going b/c they have several policies. Luckily we did b/c they only accept cash. However, they do have a ATM machine located inside the restaurant. They have other policies on the website too so be sure to check that out in advance. Price - cheap. Each slice $2.50 and toppings .50. Our grand total $9. I would recommend this place! Go-Go to Vinnie's

Staff was friendly and enjoyed the style/decor of the restaurant, but the pizza left a lot to be desired. Some of the worst pizza I've had in quite a while.

Open late, cash only. Pizza is neopolitan style with a nice sauce. Crust was crispy. Lots of toppings. Medium fed two, easily. Beer on tap served in plastic to-go glasses. Easy drive from Midtown but happy we had a GPS.

Damn, why does everybody here fucking hate me? As a matter of fact, why does everyone here seem to fuckin hate everybody? I'll admit, I can handle a little attitude if the pizza is good enough, but fake cheese and tomato paste on (actually, pretty good) crust does not a quality pizza make. Look, I know this place is high volume, so why don't you just buy a bunch of Red Barrons instead of painfully recreating them in a kitchen and don't tell me it's cause you respect your clientele. Look guys, I know it sucks being in your thirties without any discernible life skills. The economy sucks, none of the major labels are signing minimalist agit-pop bands anymore, publishers think your short story collection about the secret life of sparrows is too avant garde, whatever. If you don't like tourists or people even, don't work at a place in the tourist section of town called vinnie van fucking go-go's. Seriously, VINNIE-VAN-FUCKING-GO-GO'S. For those of you playing at home, that's a take on the name of troubled Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh with an extra "go" added to the end to imply a light-hearted style of dance. Yeah, we should ALL be embarrassed.

LATE maybe 9:45 ish on our first night in Savannah my family and i wandered to city market to eat dinner. This place was hopping!! now i know why. We decided to wait for a table. Oh my goodness, nothing fancy, not a huge menu.. but the pizza itself is exceptionally good and im a true pizza snob. I make a pretty damn good homemade pizza so I think I can honestly say its perfect! We chose 18 inch to feed 6 people and it did! crisp crust, good balanced sauce, tables are pretty unstable, but our waitress kept drinks filled and was friendly. best dinner of the week almost at under 30.00 for 8 People (drinking water) without tip. cant beat it, I would gladly go back for lunch or dinner :)) CASH ONLY!!!!!!

Customize your own pizza place. Quite the operation! With all the people waiting and the loud vibrant energy I was expecting service to be medium. But I was so impressed on how nice and on it they were. They will check on the status of your pizza after you've been waiting. Definite a must visit when in Savannah!

best pizza place we've found in savannah when we lived in savannah we looked for the best pizza place we could find there. vinnie van go-go's ended up being it. now we make it a point to pick up a pizza from there when we visit. cash only. ohhh....and about picking it up, it is downtown so it's crowded and you can never find parking. i suggest 2 people for picking up; 1 to drive and 1 to pick up. what we do is my husband drives, drops me off, i run in and grab it while he circles the block until i come back.

I grew up in NYC and love well made thin crust pizza with the right sauce and cheese. We pulled into Savannah after driving all day from Miami, and found Vinnie Van Go-Gos from the Yelp recommendations. Despite the "rules" posted we were seated right away. We ordered two medium pies. One Pepperoni and the other with Anchovies and artichokes. Both came to the table piping hot out of the oven. The crust was very well made with just the right amount of crispiess. The sauce was not overly sweet and the mozzarella was just the right texture. I didn't think I was very hungry but ended up finishing half the anchovies and artichoke pie. Great atmosphere (think dive bar), good service, and decent selection of beers. Yes, it's cash only, but come prepared and you will have a great time.

Sometimes you just need a slice of pizza the size of a kite and beer. Starting at roughly $2.50 a slice and then adding on a good mix of staple add-ons (50 cents or so) along with their "yuppie" toppings (sundried tomatoes, chicken, artichoke, etc. for a couple quarters more) and you get a gigantically tasty pizza at a really great price. I made the mistake of ordering two, out of habit or pride I'm sure, but I was stuffed after one. They are great for late night as well (til 11 pm) when the rest of the better eateries are closed. Make sure to bring cash, as credit/debit won't get you anywhere.

I'm a bit torn on this one. The pizza is great, and the place has a unique feel, but there are some drawbacks that need to be noted. The restaurant is cash only; It's hard for me to comprehend how this business model still works. The place is small and quickly becomes overwhelmed when the lunch crowd shows up. Eating on the enclosed patio even with the small tadiant heaters when it's cold outside is barely survivable without incurring frostbite. I will try them again, but the conditions will have to be just right.

Best pizza in town I love the Feta Italian sausage and spinach slice. This pizza makes me :-) happy

One of the best pizza places in town! The crust is thin and still doughy, the sauce is smooth and slightly sweet. The pizza itself is HUGE and cheaply priced ($2.50 a slice). Plus you can keep it as simple or outlandish as you want with toppings ranging from peperoni and olives to artichoke hearts and banana peppers. Pros: great pizza, cold beer, neat atmosphere and location, pleasant service Cons: cash only, NO A/C in the summer time!

Pizza is good. Service is decent. Bathrooms are upstairs. And females, if you want to look at a mirror its outside the bathroom, where you stand in line with men and women. The location of this restaurant is amazing. They only accept cash, which Sucks. Overall though, i'd go back for their pizza!

NY style pizza found in GA?!?! No way, that is not possible. But at Vinnie Va Go-Go's, it IS possible! Excellent slices and enjoyed a beverage at the bar. Great spot for a quick meal. Cash only. Bonus: one of the pizza guys had a Phillies shirt on, which pleased this Philly native.

So after a few days touring I was out of money. Where to get a decent dinner for two for under $15? Vinnie Van Go-Gos! Three large slices with toppings and a soda and tip for under $15. The slices were very good. Nice crust, good sauce, generous enough with the toppings. Size wise they are smaller than a DC jumbo slice, but larger than a usual shop. Cash only. Take out is available if the wait is too long. They deliver, a nice option if you don't want to leave your hotel.

We stayed at a hotel across from the restaurant and walked by it a few times over the weekend. The pizza smelled great and we decided to try it. It was well worth it. We sat on the patio on an unseasonably warm day and enjoyed the meal. We ordered a medium pie and a couple of slices. Both the crust and the sauce were surprisingly good. All of the "cash only" signs and small plastic cups were less than ideal, but the pizza was great and I would not hesitate to go again.

  • Mike K.

Just a reminder it is cash only. I was going to order a small pizza but the people sitting next to me had slices. They looked huge so I decided to try the slice as well. It was great. The slice was big enough to satisfy my hunger. Well worth the small seating arrangements.

This place does not even deserve one star. I have always hated vinnies and found their pizza and calzones to be the worst I've ever had. Well it had been almost a decade since I last had their food but my family had raved about this place and how it's gotten better so I figured I'd try it one more time. Well I ordered a calzone and when I received it, it was the worst looking calzone I had ever seen. Now most calzones I have had are made with fresh baked dough and as such look white to slightly golden colored. This thing was very dark brown like a pizza you ordered but it was over cooked so you left on the counter for about a week before you realized you needed to just throw it away. Not only that, this calzone was very mushy and would just deflate the moment you touched that meaning the bread could not support itself up and there was really nothing but air inside. I ended up throwing up from this garbage. Honestly I could go dumpster diving at another pizza joint and find a left over calzone at the bottom of the dumpster and it would taste better. I really wish there was an image upload so I show everyone what this gross thing looked like. My family ended up not liking their pizzas saying it was very dry and must've been an off night. Bull crap! This is what vinnie's has tasted like all my life. I really wish there had been a roach in my food so I could get my money back. I'm calling a health inspector tomorrow, I swear they are using old ingredients to make their "food". It is not hard to make a calzone, and not hard to make a delicious one. Most calzones I've had at other restaurants aren't great, but they aren't bad either. But vinnies is the only place I have ever been to that has made a bad calzone and this thing was disgusting. Have fun reading this while I go puke some more.

Some really good pizza! They have fast service and very personable. The pizza are inexpensive. I ate there for dinner and got stuck because of thunder showers.

  • Alex C.

This is fairly good pizza, is it the best I've ever had? No. But is it the worst? Definitely not. I enjoyed my slice, especially since they pre make the pies for slices at pizza joints, which can lean towards poor quality. But the slice was pretty good, and I might even say better than the whole pie! Both were tasty, but the sauce could have used a pinch of salt (personal preference maybe) it just seemed a lil bland. If you have ever been to Atlanta it puts me in the mind frame of a Fellini's. If it was late or I was in the area I would go back. I can not say I would request it if it was out of my way.

The only saving grace of our pizza is the crust- thin, crusty, chewy and buttery- everything it should be. Now everything else on top of the crust is a disaster, ingredients in huge chucks so big that the chunks of onions are still raw and the pizza "wet". Wet pizza? How is this possible? If i could go through years of college on cheap pizza and still have better quality pizza than vinnie's... then I wonder how could Vinnie be a cash only place and charges relatively high prices for these pizza. 3 of us had a few slices out of hunger then tossed the rest- yep 1 whole pizza remained.

I have been twirling pizza dough in the air since age 5, so I know a thing or two about good pizza. And this, my friends, is good pizza. My husband and I decided to feast at Vinnie Van Go-Go's our first night in Savannah. We opted for a late dinner, and the place was still hoppin'...always a good sign. We were seated after about a 20 minute wait. The inside is cramped, but I loved it...all part of the ambiance. I ordered wine, which was served in a dixie cup...right up my alley! My husband and I split a large pepperoni pizza, which was served piping hot. It was....amazing. The crust was perfect. Yum. An important note is that this establishment only accepts cash, so make sure you have some dolla bills on you. I work in the entertainment industry, so I always have plenty of singles. If you are a pizza lover, put this on your list of must visits when you are in Savannah!

For once, an excellent specialty restaurant in Savannah that lives up to the hype. Very reasonable prices, tasty 1/4 pie slices, and the Calzone is great too! I'm from New York, and I've never found a pizzeria outside of NYC worth writing about. This is place is excellent for Savannah.

I love Vinnie's. Yes, it is cash only. Big rah-rah deal. There is an atm in the place, as well as one across the way in City Market. This pizza is thin crust, and the slices are huge and cheap. If you're planning to sit, yeah, you'll probably have to wait unless you grab some seats at the bar. There is a good selection of beer, draft and bottle, and I love their spo-dee-o-dees (red wine and orange Fanta). If you're looking for a cheap meal, this is the place.

This dirty hole in the wall is in a touristy part of Savannah and serves a decent pizza pie. The patio offers a nice view. They make a three foot pie, for slices... got to watch one of these get pt in the oven! Definitely worth the effort to check out.

After having traveled to almost 40 states, I can easily say I had probably the best pizza experience here in Savannah. I'm too lazy and usually just review local businesses, but I really wanted to write about this place and give it 5-stars it truly deserves. If you are visiting Savannah, you will most likely end up at the City Market and this pizza joint is right next to Savannah's Candy Kitchen (Hello, Taffy) This place had it all- fresh ingredients, perfect crust, fun atmosphere (outside sidewalk tables with music and interesting characters), reasonable prices (less than $20 for a large 3-topping), and a great location (for tourists at least) If you are in the area, make sure to get some Vinnie to Go-Go. Other cool places I remember going to in Savannah- Leopold's Ice Cream, Savannah's Candy Kitchen, The Lady & Sons (if you like Paula Deen....meh overpriced food, but really good gooey-cake and banana pudding)

So big! The slices. Beyond the size, they are very tasty. Good crust, cheese and sauce. Close to NYC style....but great in their own respect - chewy crust not with the crisp but still really good! Nice char from the ovens. I watched the dudes twirl the dough--which has to make it tastier.

My favorite pizza on the planet! Better than any pie I had in NYC- the crust is perfect! Toppings are divine and so may choices. Late night or lunch- it's sure to please. CASH only!

I can't say much for the service (which lacked immensely) but the pizza is so good. There goes my "no carb" diet. The pizza slices are HUGE. I didn't even finish one slice. And the spinach salad was fresh with a variety of vegetables. I really like this place. I just wished the seating arrangement was slightly better.

Was looking for a spot to eat after spending the entire day driving up from Miami. Looked up this place on yelp, and was lucky to find that it was still open as it was kinda late in the evening on a Monday night. This place was delicious! Pizza came right out of the oven straight to the table! The staff was nice and attentive. We ordered a medium pie with 2 cups of beer. Good price, great food...can't go wrong here.

Love this little pizza place. We were walking around Savannah on a very cold thanksgiving weekend starving! we really didn't have a clue where to get a bite but came across Vinnie's ...I couldn't care if I ever eat pizza but hubby loves it is I caved and we stopped here. I'll back peddle now and say I DO like pizza if I can get it here. The crust was the best I've ever had so that in turn made a perfect pizza as far as I am concerned. Good service with a smile .

After being away from home and a week of restaurant food we arrived in Savannah and decided that pizza sounded good. Being in Savannah I was not expecting great pizza but we found it at Vinnie Van Go-Go's. We walked over to Vinnie's and were surprised to discover a line and a thirty minute wait on a Monday night. This indicated to us that we had found a winner. We ordered our usual a large pepperoni and onions and when it arrived it was cooked to perfection. Not the best pizza I ever had but it was very good and I would highly recommend it.

My family stopped here during our stay on Tybee Island and I would definitely recommend it if you are a pizza fan! Pizza is all they do and they do it very well. The pies are HUGE and the crust is definitely more of the thicker/fluffier type. The sauce was very flavorful and the meats were extremely tasty. This place is pretty small and it gets crazy busy, but its definitely worth a stop if you are in Savannah!

The pizza was many things: humongous, delicious, and perfect. Not too much cheese. If you order individual slices, each slice is literally the size of a sheet of paper. Our server was very nice. The inside is pretty small but it was air-conditioned which allowed us to get out of the blazing heat. But if you don't mind the heat, there is plenty of seating outside. Great place and very affordable! Literally like 3 bucks a slice. I can dig that.

Having grown up in NJ/NYC I am something of a pizza snob. The slices were very big, but dry. Not enough sauce.

Good but no comparisons to multiple NYC or bocelli's in Medford mass. Fresh, crispy but dry crust and not enough cheese. Staff is not very happy or personable.

Perfect pizza slice! Great crust, not too thick and not too thin - crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Cool hip ambiance without pretense. Sweet and pretty waitresses and $ 3.- draft beer - what more do you want?

My mom and I had walked all over Downtown trying to find a good place to eat, this was the only place open so we ate here. We shared a calzone, it was HUGE and delicious. We left the next day around 6 and bought 2 slices of pizza, again the one slice was the equivalent of four normal slices! The pizza is cheap and delicious.

We passed by Vinnie Van Go-Go several times during our recent visit to Savannah because of their location. But with so many places to try, we never did eat in. On our last night, we decided to get a take out order even though we already had dinner. We figured it can be our late night snack food. Well, the pizza smelled soooo good on our short walk back to the place we rented, that it never was "late night" snack.... yummmm. Oh, and we love the logo so much that husband bought a t-shirt from them.

One the reasons we came back to savannah, the people are funky and the atmosphere is chill and relaxing. The pizza can be inconsistent depending on who's cooking it but overall delicious. There can be a wait, usually 15-20 but don't come with ten or more people, this place is tiny.

If you don't regularly feel like a "cool" person, Vinnie's will bring you into the fold for a night. The sidewalk tables are crowded with an odd mix of frumpy tourists and ultra-hipster college kids, coming to experience a hot-spot that defies all modern rules of restaurant success: the tattooed ladies who scream your name when you're table is ready, the obnoxious Cash-Only policy, the wines served from 3 liter bottles, and monster slices that nearly fall off your metal plate. It's magical. Although the slices are huge and make great leftovers, Vinnie's pizza is too cracker-like for my taste, I prefer Mellow's pillowy crust. Plus they skimp on the toppings and sauce. If you simply want a full-belly and a place to soak up a unique Savannah scene, Vinnie's is an obvious choice.

Out of all the pizza I've eaten across the country, this is easily my favorite. I'm a New York style fan and they do it right here. I order the same combination of toppings at every new pizza place I try just to aid in the judging of my next favorite pizza joint (sausage, onions & garlic). They greatly surpassed my expectations. Fresh ingredients and the crust is crisp and light and not too chewy. It's fantastic pizza and you can't go wrong here... but don't expect to show up and sit down inside... more than likely you'll have to order it and sit outside to eat it.. but it is so worth it.

  • Clifford S.

The menu is simple but the wait is pretty long. The calzones were ok, the sausage a little too hot for pizza. Tables not too comfortable. But it was close to the hotel and we got in late. I probably wouldn't go again but my wife liked it better than I did.

CASH ONLY! For what it is, it really does not get better. $2.50 cent, massive slices of NY style pizza. Thin, crispy yet bendable crust- fresh ingredients. Best pizza I have had south of the Mason-Dixon. Awesome, can't miss joint.

  • Kevin K.

Miss this place. Wish I had a huge slice if Vinnie's right now. Every time we are in Savannah we make sure to fit Vinnie's in fora meal. The service is what it is. There are a few rules, and if you follow them your fine. If your not ready to tow the line then there is another pizza joint two blocks down. CASH ONLY. You can't get a table until your complete party is present. Their menus are paper and usually greasy. Your hostess or waiter might be covered in tattoos or full of body piercing. Get over it. They are friendly as hell, but usually really busy. The pizza and toppings are of superior quality. They are not stingy with the toppings either. Great food for the price. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. You'll be hooked!

Loved it! Kind of a long wait, but worth it for the quality thin crust pizza, cold beer and great service. Terrific people watching locale!

  • Stacey C.

OK, the wait STUNK! But, like all of Savannah, you get to drink while you wait. Wait outside, walk around town, whatever. This place was worth the wait. We came on a Saturday night and waited probably 45 minutes (4 of us). This place was off the hook. I am not that big of a pizza fan, but I guarantee I will go back to Vinnie Van Go-Gos every time I am in my beloved Savannah. Yummmmmmm!!!

Best pizza in the south. I live in New York and I'm visiting my sister in Savannah. This pizza made me think of the great pizza in ny. I got a slice with pesto and pepperoni and it was perfect! Good sized too. The environment is a very laid back. Me and my sister sat at the bar and the entire staff was very welcoming and definitely showed their southern hospitality! I'm glad we went here

I've never actually been to the location - I've only ordered delivery. But this was one of the best pizzas I've ever had, and it was HUGE. We got a large and between the 4 of us, there was still like 6 pieces left when we were full! The crust is pretty thin but that's how I like it, and the sauce wasn't overwhelming in taste or amount - also the way I like it. A must if you are traveling to or live in Savannah!!

OVERRATED. Visiting from Los Angeles, came to this place seeing what the "hype" was all about. Pizza was ok. I guess it's ok considering there's almost no competition around to compare it to. Sat down with a few co-workers, pizza took forever to cook. Nothing really special. I think it's more hype and location than an actual quality product.

  • Craig G.

Crust so thin it's only got one side. And it's crisp instead of hard. The ingredients were full of flavor. This is top of the line pizza. The joint is located in the City Market district and the many artist galleries. The old building is pretty dumpy, and they don't keep things very clean. The staff aren't terribly efficient, but it was all worth it for such great pizza.

This place is on a corner in the City Market. It looks like a dive where the local motorcycle gang would hang out but it is kid/pet/family friendly. I love it! The pizza is good, flavorful and doesn't need a bunch of toppings. The crust is good, crunchy, yet you could still fold it in half, not too much sauce and just the right amount of cheese. The slices are pretty big. You can order a pie or by the slice. The price is always reasonable and I have heard that they will deliver for no extra charge. Family of 5 and we eat well for about $20. The only downfall is that they only accept cash. I don't usually carry cash but when I go to Savannah I am sure to have it so I can get my pizza fix by Vinnie's. Definitely recommend!!

We went here on the recommendation of one a tour guide after a day and night of walking around and taking in the city. It was our last stop and we were hungry so that might go into the high estimation I have of the place. The atmosphere is very much that of your local college town pizza place which is great considering that Savannah, while hosting more than a few colleges, is far from your typical college town. It's positioned right on the City Market which makes for a great place to sit outside. The place was hopping when we got there around eight thirty which was a good sign for the quality of the food. However we were able to get a table right away. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and the service was great. Our food was out pretty quickly but we never felt rushed. We ordered a large pepperoni which was more than enough for the four of us. The pizza is basically your typical New York style about which as someone from Chicago and convinced of our pizza's superiority I'm slightly skeptical. Yet this did not disappoint. The ingredients were delicious, the cheese perfectly melted, and the crust wonderful. On its own the crust would have made awesome bread sticks. I recommend Vinnie's for anyone looking for a good pizza.

Best pizza in the historic district. Located right in City Market. New York style pizza and they do it very well. They don't have different pizzas on the menu (i.e. pepperoni, veggie, supreme, margarita, etc). Menu lists "New York Style" or "white" and you add the toppings you want. Warning, if you build the equivalent of a supreme then remember the toppings are $2 each for a large. Couple of warnings 1) The wait can be long on the weekends 2) Cash only In summary, very good pizza. Nice change of pace from eating fried chicken or seafood in Savannah. Decently priced. No frills place. Beer (tap) and wine will be served to you in a plastic cup. Highly recommend.

What does a New Yorker not expect to find in Savannah? A decent pizza place, but how excited was I to find this place at the edge of City Market! Cash only and the best pizza south of NYC! Plenty of toppings and they are all great!!

I visited Savannah in mid October for the first time, and initially didn't think there was any need to go to a pizza place in a city full of exciting restaurants. But thankfully, my friends and I ended up eating here our first night (it was very close to where we were staying). We all were blown away by how good the pizza was! The smell of pizzas baking was divine, and the pizza itself was oh so delicious. Really good crust, not too much sauce, tasty cheese and toppings... Plus everything was reasonably priced. We came back for lunch a couple days later and ordered the same pizza, which was just as delicious on the second try - spinach, mushrooms, and green peppers. For both meals we sat outside, and it was nice to people watch and enjoy pleasant weather.

I literally stumbled upon this place. And I am glad I did. Their pizza is delicious. A slice is really almost a quarter of an entire pie. They are that big. I ordered 2 mistakenly thinking they were normal slices. When basically a half a pizza appeared I was stunned but after one bite I downed both pieces and enjoyed every filling bite. Pizza toppings are pretty standard but they are fresh and tasty and you won't go wrong with just about any choice. The place is cash only so bear that in mind. If you ned it there is an ATM located nearby. They serve a good assortment of beers and will happily give you a to-go cup (savannah allows you to have cups of alcohol as you walk about). If you want pizza, want to get filled up on it and enjoy a good beer..... Head to Vinny's!

Very solid pizza pick despite the fact that it's in tourist central. CASH ONLY! We tried Vinnie Van Go-Go's this past Sunday right when it opened at noon. We decided to bring our dogs on our trip and tried to find as many restaurants that were pet friendly as possible. It really helped that 1. I like pizza, 2. It's pet-friendly, and 3. It gets solid Yelp reviews. All of this sets it up to be a great choice. We arrived at probably 11:55am and you could already see people milling around the restaurant while the employees were getting all of the outdoor seating out. A minute or 2 before it opened, people began to queue up and I did just the same. We were probably the 3rd of 4th group to get seated and since we had dogs, we sat outside on the fairly large patio. The patio is covered and since there was a Tropical Storm brewing nearby, they had the plastic wall sheeting covering the exteriors of the patio. Despite all of that covering, it ended up being pretty pleasant for a late May day. Once seated, our waitress came by within a couple of minutes and started us off with some waters and the menu. We decided to keep it simple and went with a Spinach Salad with Feta ($6.75) to share and then ordered a large pie ($12.50) with Pepperoni and Feta ($2.00 for each topping). While waiting for our food to come out, I found the bathrooms upstairs to wash up. They were pretty nasty even for a guy's standards. They smelled as if they weren't cleaned regularly and there was plenty of graffiti all over the walls. This place must be a raucous bar at night in order for the bathroom to smell like an unflushed urinal the next day. Within a minute or 2 after getting back from the restroom, our Spinach Salad came out. It had, you guessed it, spinach, onions, green peppers, black olives, feta, 2 pretty garlicky bread sticks, and a light Italian dressing on the side. All in all, a pretty good salad. Not ridiculously big or anything, but good enough for the both of us to split. Then maybe another 5 minutes later, our pizza pie came out. It was as most people have reported NY style and was pretty good. Not overly saucy, not under or over-cooked and just the right amount of cheese. However, they were pretty chintzy with the Feta, so not a big fan of that. Anyways, they cut the pie into 10 pieces and we only ended up eating about 1/2 of it, so lots of leftovers. Looking forward to eating them tonight in fact! Final impression...solid choice for pizza. We got out for $30.00 flat (including tax and tip) with 1/2 a pie to bring home.

This was our first meal in Savannah. We were starving and wanted something immediately. The pizza smelled great and the place was packed. I ordered a Newcastle and a slice with hot sausage and a slice with mushroom. The slices were huge. Unfortunately, with the exception of the sausage the pizza was kinda bland. Terrible sauce and as my wife put it: "The cheese was just fair quality." The crust was very thin and crunchy! Other pizzas we saw seemed to have much thicker crusts. Other than the guy that brought us our slices the hostess and waitress were both pretentious and unfriendly.

This place has charm, great pizza, and is affordable! Plus it's the best pizza ever! Buy by the slice. The slices are huge, toppings endless so you can be creative. I love this place!

Yummy pizza in a fun location-City Market! The line can be long at opening, especially on the weekend, but it moves pretty quickly, and the pizza is worth the wait. Bring cash, though, as it's a cash-only operation. Sitting outside is pleasant when it's not too hot.

This place was highly recommended by a friend in Atlanta and it did not disappoint. It was about 100 ft. from our conference hotel, which made it all the better. I agree with Christopher S. - this is NOT New York style pizza, but the Georgia version of NY style, which is common in Atlanta places like Fellini's and Camelli's. The slices are big here, but less cheese and grease tha its Atlanta counterparts. The costs are so fucking reasonable - $2.50 for a basic slice and either .75 or .50 cents for toppings. Plus, the kitchen guys pick the music inside and they have impeccable taste. Can there be anything better to listen to while chowing a jalapeno, banana pepper, sundried tomato, regular tomato and pesto slice than the ENTIRE "Piper at the Gates of Dawn"? If I was in town longer or lived in Savannah, this would be my spot. I knew right away that the servers were my kind of people. I bet this place rocks on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • Krystal K.

Now that I'm back home in boring old alpharetta I find myself craving this pizza. One slice was more than enough and they had great toppings. I added salami, black olives and onions. They give you garlic, red pepper flakes and parmesan. So freakin good. Not a bad price and the patio isn't a bad place to sit.

Pizza Heaven. Don't go to Savannah without visiting Vinnies. Huge NY style slices. Dare I say better than New York pizza( yes it's that good). I put it up there with Gino's East of Chicago as my favorite pizza. Uber cool staff, music and bar inside. I recommend getting 2 artichoke slices and a spinach salad with your favorite beer. Doesn't get any better!

  • Brad H.

Awesome, awesome pizza! Archetypical pizzeria style in the best sense. It was cheap, fast and delicious. Wish I had a place like this in Seattle, glad I didn't have one like it in college (perhaps wouldn't have had money for books because I'd be eating here every day instead of at the cafeteria)

After an 8 hour drinking marathon, we were in desperate need of the universal drunk remedy, a huge slice of 'za. Thankfully we had a conversation with our server at Cilantro's earlier that day about late night grub options and he told us about Vinnie Van Go-Go's. Manny had made some pretty tall claims about the quality of the pies, saying that his friends from both Chicago and New York universally agreed that Vinnie served up high quality pizza. Nowhere else in the world do people take their pizza more seriously than in those two cities. It was time to investigate, Myth Busters style. I went in to do the ordering while my cohort, El Drunko, finished up his beer outside. I went to the cash register and asked what kind of slices they had. Obviously a noob, the cashier helped me out and told me they made the slices TO ORDER. Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!?! Your slices haven't been sitting out for the past 30 minutes? Could this be real? You better believe it's real. I opted to pile our slices with sausage, spinach, mushrooms and brocolli. While we weren't quite ready to eat yet, we had to order our pizza before we continued drinking because they close at 12 on Thursdays. So after we picked up the pizza, we went on a drunk tour of Savannah and about two hours later, it was the moment of truth - was this going to be genuinely good pizza, or money wasted that could have been spent on more beer? Some of the best pizza I've ever had. EVER. Even luke warm. And I don't joke about pizza. The crust was done to perfection, brown and slightly crusty on the outside, soft on the inside and sturdy enough to support the weight of the toppings. Easy to hold, either open or folded (you know, how those New Yorkers like to eat it.) Vinnie Van Go-Go's ranks on my list of must-visit places in Savannah.

Who knew I'd find amazing pizza in Savannah? I knew that I was in for some to-die-for Southern food, but not pizza. One evening my Mother and I were strolling through the marketplace as we walked by VVGG's and happened to notice that all of the people dining outside were sharing what looked like amazing New York style pizza. We were getting peckish and contemplating where we were going to have dinner. No sooner Mom was asking some patrons if the pizza was as good as it looked, to which she received eye rolls (in the dreamy sense) and "aw yeah"s. So we waited for a table, ordered a pizza and two beers and within 15 or so minutes we were noshing on something that immediately reminded us of the goodness that we had many times taking day trips to the big apple when I was growing up. Bottom line, if you're in Savannah do not pass this place by. The pizza and the service will have you exiting with a big smile...it did for us.

  • Lisa L.

I have been going to Vinnie's since it opened. I love their slices. Cheap and consistently good! They take CASH ONLY and sometimes on the weekends you have to wait for a table. But it is worth it. The service used to be "New York rude," but lately the servers are pleasant. You get your food FAST usually. Beers come in plastic cups, which you can walk around City Market with if you don't finish them at the table. If you get a whole pie, beware because it is huge (at least the last time we ordered one which was years ago). If you're alone and there are no tables, try sitting at the bar - it's usually fun to watch the goings-on. Not sure if they still deliver by bikes, but that is such a cool, green way to deliver to downtown Sav. Legend has it that Vinnie's was started by two SCAD students who didn't know a thing about pizza, but they wanted to start a cool hang-out because Savannah didn't have one. So they experimented and found the best crust and sauce. Yay for their risk-taking and pioneer spirit!

For a pizza place, this is a good value and it's tasty, too. You can get any combination you want, just be aware the slices are HUGE! It's a good spot for people watching, too. Pizza is just pizza to me, but the waitstaff was friendly enough to make the experience more enjoyable than it otherwise would have been! Also be aware it's cash only!

Great slice of pizza! We drove out of our way to get a slice. Great value, great people, great location in historic Savannah.

  • Makia T.

We ate here while on an overnight visit to Savannah and it is probably one of the best pizzas I've had, ever. The ingredients were so simple and fresh, that I don't understand why more pizza places don't use them. Whatever you order, be sure to get the green olives and banana peppers on it and you'll never go wrong.

  • Dick H.

Pizza does not get better than Vinnie's, even in NYC. Great atmosphere, high quality ingredients, a good crispy crust (not too thick), and lots of options for mixing. Plus a great selection of beers, and one of the top locations in City Market.

  • Rachel O.

Pretty good prices, really large slices, couldn't finish :) thin crust pizza!

Excellent pizza, and very reasonable prices. It's a little cramped inside and there is often a long wait but it was worth it, I would definitely go back.

  • Alex H.

St. Patrick's Day is probably not the best time to give this place a fair shake. The options were slices with and without pepperoni. That being said, I had one of each at different times of the evening, and they really hit the spot. Not just because of the beer, I swear. The crust managed to be both chewy and crisp. The toppings were well balanced. I'd like to try this place again when I can order a whole pie or one of the custom slices.

  • Eros A.

I don't mean to sound snobbish about my NYC pizza, but we definitely have some of the best in the country; and I'm very happy to find out that Vinnie has also some great options. Came here and ordered a medium (size wise can be on the larger size) pizza and it was very good; love that was not only very good, but also very reasonably priced. Service also was nice and friendly, a bit on the slow side, but couldn't blame them; they were packed. I have tried a couple pizza places here and this one is on my top of the list!

    (4)
  • Geoffrey E.

It was good, but it wasn't great. I've had better. Still, the pizza was pretty good. Think a notch above Pizza Hut good; but not blow your socks off good by any stretch of the imagination. It's really hot inside; and in July, it's really hot outside, so be prepared to sweat. Also, don't come here looking for good service or good attitudes! All in all, a decent slice of pizza, but I wouldn't go out of my way unless you're dying for a slice.

    (3)
  • Kenneth M.

The best pizza! A little quirky, cash only, one check per table... But the pizza is outstanding and for the price, cannot be beat. Go there, eat there, you will not regret it.

Best pizza I have ever had! Simply amazing! Service was okay. Long wait. The atmosphere is basically non existent, but the pizza is worth it!

Great pie! Delivered to my hotel in 26 minutes and the price was very reasonable. My wife is not a pizza fan and she loved it. We don't have pizza like this in California.

  • Maggie D.

CASH ONLY!! Very important to remember! But beside that, we hardly waited on a Saturday night. You can sit inside or outside, although I would recommend outside because inside is very tiny. Our server was nice and quick. My boyfriend and I both got calzones that were delicious and a very decent size! A must go if you're in Savannah, so much better than most places on River Street!

  • Rachel D.

I grew up on brick oven/New York style pizza, and as must as the South tries to keep up, pizza just aint cutting it below New Jersey. I've been through every pizza place from Savannah to Jacksonville looking for a slice that can compare and Vinnie's is the best around. The crust is thin, the cheese is melty, and they have decent sauce. Load up on toppings (veggies for me). The seating is minimal. Be prepared to WAIT for a table almost any night of the week (thanks in part to their City Market location). Ordering take-out and eating on a nearby bench is a better option with the same ambience.

  • Monica F.

I am staying in a hotel nearby and had read the reviews on yelp so I decided to get some food to go. I ordered a calzone with spinash and mushrooms and a spinash salad with feta. The calzone was huge and the most awful piece of food I've had in a long time. This thing was huge but full of air. There was hardly any cheese and just a few mushrooms and a little spinash and to make it worse it was a bit overcooked/burned. The marinara sauce that came with the calzone was bland, bitter and dry. The calzone was packed between two paper plates and some foil so by the time I got to my room this thing was dripping like crazy. They didn't packed any forks or napkins. The only reason why I gave them a star was because the salad dressing was ok. The salad was semi ok but it was packed in between two paper plates and foil so the feta cheese flew out when I opened the plates and after adding the dressing the plate was falling apart. Not recommended at all and the waitress that took my order had some serious attitude problem. I might have to try a slice of pizza, but being from chicago and having the best pizza place in my neighborhood, I'm afraid...

Another one of our usual establishments on our trips to Savannah. It's always busy and if you want a table you will always wait. You can also buy slices (1 of their slices is like 2 regular pizza slices) and eat in the city market courtyard. Since Savannah allows open containers, you can also drink a beer with your pizza sitting outside. Goooood times.

Absolutely 100% hands down the BEST New York City style pizza in Savannah. Anytime we go downtown we make sure to go here!

Can easily compete with the major NYC pizza joints. Huge pizzas with great toppings to choose from. Also an A+ crust to go with it!

  • Marc C.

Great pizza. Family of four ate and ate with drinks for under $30 included tip and leftovers. Gooey cheese, perfect chewy crust, and tasty toppings. The slice alone is a meal. Big containers of parmesan cheese, red pepper, and oregano supplement the flavors. Bring cash and don't miss this City Market hotspots.

    (5)
  • Devil M.

It's good pizza and they don't skimp on the toppings. The place is run down and its got great character. It's close to being "NY style" but it's not 100% NY style. Worth checking out but don't go expecting to have your mind blown the way people talk about this place.

  • Liz S.

The pizza was delicious and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. They brought out a huge pizza for us to devour. They also serve Guinness, tasty. We had the choice of eating inside or out. This establishment only accepts hard cold cash so leave the plastic at the house. For all pizza lovers this is a pizza pie you must try!

  • Antoinette T.

We ate here on a really warm afternoon and were surprised that it was so comfortable sitting outside to eat. The fans overhead helped a LOT and there was a slight breeze. We got seated right away since there were only two of us but a group of ten came up and had to wait 30-40 min. They were just getting seated as we were finishing up. The waitresses here were not friendly... they seemed impatient when they were around and we had to ask for refills. The pizza itself was really good and probably the best we've had so far since moving here. The best I've had ever? No. But I loved the crust that was crunchy and at the same time chewy... hot. The toppings were great but I wished there was more garlic, when you order it as a topping... I expect SOME to be on every slice.

    (4)

I like the toppings choices Vinnie's offers and love the large beer selection but the pizza itself isn't something to write home about. You're by no means choking the stuff down but the crust is kind of dry and there are certainly better pizza places in Savannah. The long wait for a table is also really obnoxious. Bottom line: don't come here hungry because you'll wait half an hour for a seat and then again for your order to be placed and pizza to arrive. Waiting an hour for dry pizza just isn't something I can get behind.

A slice of NYC in Georgia. It was great. Good portion. Good price. Just wish there was a little more seating.

So New York city has the best pizza on the planet. Hands down. Vinnie Van Go Go's comes damn close. I find myself craving Vinnie's pizza often. When I travel to Savannah, a trip to Vinnie's is first thing on the agenda. Yesterday was no exception. I met a few guys there last night and unfortunately showed up after they had ordered. I usually get a massive slice with sun dried tomatoes and feta, but had to make due with what they had ordered. They done good though. We had two pizzas, one with sausage (the best sausage around) and pepperoni and the other had pepperoni, pepperoncinis and sun dried tomatoes. Both were absolutely delicious. The crust is very similar to New York: thin and crispy with a bit of chewy. Vinnie's also has a great beer selection, I always opt for a Newcastle. If your ever in Savannah, Vinnie Van Go Go's is a must!

I actually randomly stopped by Vinnie Van Go-Go's while I was in Savannah looking for a bartending job. What probably drew me to the place was the small group of attractive girls from SCAD that were hanging out on the covered patio area in front of the restaurant. I may be a little biased when I reflect on how good their food is, because I was famished the first time I visited this place, and the other times I went here I was slightly intoxicated. Either way, their pizza is phenomenal. They serve gigantic NY Pizza style slices, which are sure to fill you up after 2 or 3 slices. They also have a great selection of originally created pizza selections with a little bit of southern-Italian charm that are hard to find anywhere else. There business hours are convenient for the Bay street nightlife crowds also. They stay open to 1:00am on Friday and Saturday so that college kids in the area who need to sober up can accomplish the feat with a slice of delicious pizza.

Just had an early dinner here today. We were immediately seated. Service staff was friendly and efficient, pizza was good with a yummy crispy crust. Sat on the patio overlooking the square. Dog friendly too! all in all enjoyable dinner. Check it out!

The only place I need to go for pizza on my visits to Savannah! Far better then Mellow Mushroom and Sweet Melissa's. As good as it gets when it comes to fresh flat bread pizza.

  • Grant H.

This place is one of my favorite pizza places in Savannah. The pizza and calzones are always good and the beer on tap is always fresh. Sitting outdoors here in the summer and people watching is always solid here as well as being within an earshot of the live music that is often playing in Ellis Square down by Wild Wing's. This is a cash only place. (there is an atm right down the way so no worries just stop there before)

Vinnie,,,.good pizza, service is so-so. Went there 10 years ago, went on 3/20/12 and people are still in line for a slice. Now here's my negative side, can't they make better bathrooms? I've seen cleaner bathrooms in train stations. These are simply DISGUSTING.

GO, Go, GO!!!! Sooooo good! I'm a northerner so I was skeptical about pizza down south after growing up on NY pizza but I was craving pizza and was not about to go to mellow mushroom (yuck!) so my husband and I went to Vinnie Van GoGos, let me tell you.. It was heaven in pizza form! The place is kinda divey so don't expect something fancy but the pizza is worth it! Just remember to bring cash! I'd definitely recommend this to my fellow northerners in a pizza crunch! It's comparable to NY style!

This is the place to go for pizza in Savannah! Forget the big pizza chains, this is pizza done right and made from scratch. Just remember to bring cash because they don't take cards.

This place is a staple for SCAD kids and anyone looking for a good, cheap, quick meal. I've been frequenting them for 10 years now (mostly during 2000-2004) and they've stayed very consistent in menu and price. Their pizzas are reasonably priced with a decent amount of toppings available. I also love how they provide a good bit of condiments -- parmesan cheese, crushed red pepper, garlic, oregano. Almost all of the seating is outside, nicely set in City Market with one of the candy kitchens right behind you. It's in a great location -- bars and shopping all around.

Initially, I was excited to get back to Vinnie's after having their pizza for the first time about ten years ago and after reading several good reviews of the place, but by the end of dinner I was decidedly underwhelmed. We ended up at Vinnie's earlier than we wanted to (and before we were really hungry) because all the shops either close at 6 p.m. on Fridays or weren't open in the first place given that it was New Year's Day. I was glad we went when we did though, because once we left, a group had gathered outside waiting for tables. The "staff" (disaffected art students) continues to seat people outside at the "covered" patio b/c the indoor space houses about 3 tables. The patio coverings don't actually meet the ground or the side of the building, so the 40 degree temperatures and colder winds blow through unimpeded, for which the few overhead outdoor "heaters" are no match. Ok, ok - 40 degrees certainly isn't freezing, but it's not the most comfortable for eating if you ask me. I guess we assumed the patio coverings and "heat" would do a bit better of a job since the place was always so busy. I really liked their beer selection, but didn't really get a chance to peruse it because our server assumed we knew what we wanted as soon as we sat down. We ended up ordering a medium pizza topped with mushrooms and onions. It was certainly tasty and I liked their crust, but neither of us were blown away by any means. It was nice to see that the mushrooms looked fresh rather than canned. Heads up: Vinnie's is cash-only, and doesn't open till 4 p.m. on weekdays. If I'm in historic Savannah again and am craving pizza, I'd certainly go back, but won't be dragging any of my other friends there insisting that they try Vinnie's, nor would I wait outside in the cold or in the South GA summer heat for any expanse of time just to get in here. It does the job, but there are a ton of better casual and fun places in Sav. that are worth trying if you aren't in town for long.

Not a pizza fan but I could eat this pizza every day and never be sick of it. The calzones are wonderful too. Cash only just so you know. Bring a sweater for cool breezy nights. This pizza is the business

    (5)
  • William K.

Great pizza and great value. This place has the best pizza in Sav, but that is only my opinion. Depending on when you go, it can take some time to get a table but you can always get a slice or two to go and eat in City Market or in one of the squares. All in all, A+.

    (5)
  • Ben G.

OK, from a "pizza in the south" perspective, this is a five-star place. In fact, the pizza at Vinnie's would get at least four stars no matter where you are. The owner is from Michigan and Arizona, which is surprising beacuse the crispy thin crust SCREAMS "NYC transplant". The sauce is fresh tasting, the ingredients are damn fine, and the service is pretty good. Take heed, though, this place anchors one end of the tourist-infected City Market, so you may expect to wait a while for a table. But let me tell you...it's likely worth the wait if you're all "gritsed-out". CASH ONLY.

I go here every time I get to Savannah. Never fails to please. Pizza is great and the people who work here know how to take care of folks. If they don't take good care of you it is because you are an A**Hole. I went here by myself on Sunday afternoon and ended up sitting by the bar with a family and was back the next night with a large group (group think decision) and loved it both times just as much.

Me and my sister were just walking around downtown looking for a quick dinner and found this amazing place! We were seated straight away. The atmosphere is very relaxed and looks like a fun place to bring your friends. The one down side is that you can only pay with cash but for the food and service we received it was absolutely worth it. We ordered and split a calzone with black olives, sun dried tomatoes, and artichokes. It was delicious! The crust was crispy and the inside was soft and full of our toppings plus mozzarella and ricotta cheese. It was a perfect sized portion and comes with a cup of warm marinara sauce. We had a fantastic waitress named Jordan. She was very attentive and knowledgeable about what to see in the area. We absolutely loved it and would love to come back.

Amazing pizza. It comes to a very close first to my North Eastern pizza (new York style). Sevice is wonderful and the prices are great.

  • Aaron T.

All I get is the mushrooms and spinach and my wife splits with pepperoni. I heard on the radio they were rated best pizza in GA! and that is for a reason. They have beer on tap and make sure you have CASH only for this place. Every time family comes in town, this is a MUST take-to place. My Daughters love this place and we go at least once to twice a month. Every now and then, its raw on the bottom so we ask them to put it back in for a minute and they never have a problem with it.

  • James H.

It's good. Nice atmosphere if you want to be on a crowded side walk and people watch mostly tourist. The wait staff is usually lazy college students who have attitude, generally ignore you and are slow. If you have little ones that like to stray, it might not be a good location with the side walk near the street.

Yummy pizza. Quick service. Very crowded so you should be prepared to wait. But they have pizza by the slice to go. Cash ONLY!

What a great name! Good service and pizza. Had a pizza for dinner last nite outside but the heaters kept it from being too cold. Had some leftover and heated a couple of slices for dinner tonite. Like all pizza, even better reheated.

Awesome pizza in Savannah?! Heck yeah! The pizza was great, the service friendly and fast and the space totally fun. I sat at the bar with a good view of some sort of Wall of Rules which was quite entertaining and way more "left" than I would have thought for the South. That's small minded of me I know, but I was pleasantly surprised. The oddball mix of music was entertaining as well, we cycled through metal to classic rock and soul before I even knew what had happened to me. My one gripe - throw away plastic cups?!?! Dear Savannah, Welcome to the 21st century, you know, the one where we're trying NOT to destroy the planet with copious amounts of waste. I'm willing to pay an extra dollar or two for my pizza so you can get glasses and hire a dishwasher. Thanks, The Rest of the World I have a funny feeling I'll be eating here more than once during my short stay. I'll just boycott the beverages.

  • Sarah C.

This was my 4th meal of the day: And I still made room for it ALL! I was very excited to try this place and it exceeded my expectations. They offer a pretty huge slice! NY style pizza, with thin crust, and freshly made to order! I got pineapple & jalapenos. The pineapple pieces were huge and they kept falling off~ the BF got the pepperoni. Even the plain O cheese would have been heaven. It reminded me of a capitol hill type dive pizza place. The only set back was that it closes around 11pm? That's fairly early! But- guess they don't want to deal with late night drunkards. They do dine in, carry out, and delivery by bike for free. Also note its cash only!

    (5)
  • Meridith H.

This place was freaking awesome. It is the kind of pizza that you crave. I think it is all about the crust because regardless of the toppings we were all very happy. The pieces are HUGE, so ladies, one is enough. If you are a big boy, two is sufficient. This is a great area of town but only dine here if you are not in a hurry. My star deduction is due to the ridiculously long wait, lackluster service and hostesses screaming names across the plaza. Didn't they invent those buzzers years ago? Anyway, it is worth the calories and the ambiance as a tourist. If I lived there, I would probably opt for takeout.

  • Christopher S.

It's not New York City pizza, but it's the best pizza you're going to find in Savannah. Situated right by the square in City Market, it's got outdoor seating, amazing pizza and calzones, and an endless supply of delicious sweet tea. It's a great place to sit down and eat with friends, or grab a slice as you travel around the downtown area.

    (4)
  • Courtney E.

Great pizza! They aren't skimpy with the toppings at all. It's a good place to stop by for just a slice or to get a whole pie. I just wish they were open later on the weekends so I could stop in for a drunken slice.

    (4)
  • Crystal L.

Great thin crust pizza. ~.50-.75 a topping. They have fat tire!

    (4)
  • Amanda P.

There are few things better than sitting at Vinnie's on a cool night over beer and pizza, people watching. The wait sometimes is annoying, especially on weekend nights. I've never sat inside (I believe there's a tiny bar). Outside there are many tables under an awning with those plastic walls that they pull down when weather is cooler (so, you know... A couple weeks each year). The pizza is decent, not phenomenal... But the variety of toppings is great, and a single slice is often enough to fill up on. Thin crust makes it nice and foldable, if that's your style. Beer selection is pretty standard with a few unusual choices. The setting, pizza, and beer make for a perfect storm of enjoyable evening.

  • Angel I.

Dined here Sunday evening and still quite busy! Cash only and a variety of toppings. We ordered artichoke and feta toppings and took it back to the hotel. Were greeted by the owner and they had a friendly staff. Wished we would have eaten it while it was hot, but still good. Really liked the dough! Good pizza, but not the best I've ever eaten like everyone says.

  • Ariela B.

[NOTE: You can't get an "early" lunch here on weekdays, because they open at 4pm. They do stay open quite late however, when the rest of the restaurants have already been closed for hours.] The hotel clerk wasn't kidding when he said Vinnie's was the best pizza in town. And not only is the pizza good, but their topping options are even better. Mix and match what you want on your slice - it's all good. The slices are HUGE, too. I wouldn't order more than one at a time, because one (plus toppings) may just fill you up. Be warned though, the place gets rather crowded on any given day, the inside is dingy and cramped, and the bathroom is gross (the women's room doesn't even lock). I'd still say the pizza is worth it though. Just try not to drop any on the floor.

Vinnie Van Go-Go's is a must-go for SCAD people. My alumna sister dragged me here on my last visit. The dual ambiance of the bustling kitchen vs. Old Savannah outdoor seating is memorable (in a very good way). As is the kitchen staff. And no offense to my local pizza joints in SoCal... but the pizza in this place... A quarter-pie of AWESOME in every slice.

    (5)
  • Meri S.

This New York pizza snob is impressed. Huge slices, crispy crust, perfectly melted cheese. And cheap to boot!

    (4)
  • L T.

Yep, Vinnie CAN Go Go! There are a ton of options for pizza toppings, each slice seems to be about a foot long, and - the best part - the amazing taste seems to have no correlation with its tiny price tag. It *is* cash only, but there's an ATM tucked right inside, so it's no big deal. This is a City Market gem; I can't say enough good things about this place. My husband and I had a really great time dining outside - try the Spodee-Odee sangria and people watch the nearby square.

    (5)
  • Kat Z.

In my world, a restaurant needs to have priorities to be good. Pick one thing and excel at it. Barbeque joints should make good barbeque and not try to incorporate neo-asian influences. Vinnie's puts pizza front and center, right where it belongs. Sure, you can get a calzone or spinach salad, but they're certainly peripheral and made with things that a good pizza joint would have on hand already. Beer comes in bottles and wine comes in plastic cups. Pizza comes out piping hot on platters and absolutely perfect. Their crust is spot on - walking the fine line that allows chewy & crunchy to co-exist. Sauce is a nice compliment to the abundance of great toppings, both standard and beyond (spinach, artichoke, goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes - certainly my favourites!). We ended up with the garlic & mushroom, which was a great combination for us... but for the faint of garlic, make sure you aren't kissing anyone but your dining partner for some time! The only ding is the lack of outdoor heating - I realize that for 90% of the year, it's completely useless, but on a chilly Savannah night a few patio heaters would have made the difference between "Lovely dinner, let's get somewhere warm" and "Let's stay here and have another round".

Oh Vinnies! How I miss thee! When I lived in Savannah, this was the local place to take friends visiting. Hell, I went here all the time by myself! The pizza is made as you wish, anyway you like it by college kids and local hipsters making their way through art college. The scene is chaotic and organized, somehow. I recommend sitting outside in their patio. With everything being so great, there is a slice of bad that comes along with good. Vinnies is in the heart of 'touristland' and 'popularville.' CA$H ONLY, remember. On the weekends especially Fridays and Saturdays expect a 30 to 45 minute wait if you are in a group....whiiiiiiile drinking a frosty beer!!! You can drink outside in the square as you wait!! I so love Savannah!!! [PS - That nasty little bug that runs around your feet EVERYWHERE you go in Savannah is called a Palmetto Bug [local name] not a Cockroach. I guess Palmetto Bug sounds better? They are native to the area - millions and millions of years native. You can not get rid of them, I've tried. So, knowing this ahead of time, I truly hope this enlightens your Savannian experience.]

  • Daniel S.

One of the better pizza places in the downtown area. They have hugh slices, so you don't have to buy a whole pizza to get a filling meal. It's also nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the city market area.

  • Holly S.

This place is not trying to be anything but a freaking delicious pizza place! It surely is not very pleasing to the eye inside, but who cares when you can chow down on some amazing pizza... Last time we went, we got the white pizza.. ummm.. YUMM! Everytime we go, we get something different and it never disappoints! Be sure to have cash ready because it is CASH ONLY! Enjoy. BTW... after we eat dinner.. we go grab a free praline sample a few doors down for dessert. (I hope they don't recognize us! haha)

One of my favorite pizza places in Savannah. They have ginormous slices and they are pretty cheap. Service is quick but unfortunately, no plastic so make sure you have that paper. I am from Buffalo, NY and we know our piza up there and although it doesn't compare due to the humidity present in the Savannah atmosphere and the sea level, its still pretty good.

Went to Savannah for Valentine's Day and ended up at Vinnie's thanks to all you yelpers. It was a wonderful choice and I know why there's always a wait to get into this place. We had about a 20 minute wait and keep in mind please CASH ONLY. She sat us outside and the view was spectacular. I just people watched the whole time. As far as the pizza goes I got the salami w/ olives and spicy sausage with olives. The toppings were really fresh and tasty.

Absolutely LOVE this place. Definitely the best pizza in town! Great atmosphere... I have always had great service every time I've been there!

The BAD: 1. The food was undercooked. The mushrooms were raw. We had to ask the server to take the pizza back and cook it some more. 2. The entire restaurant was freezing - no heat. We got as close to the pizza ovens as possible and still had to wear our coats and gloves while eating (mid-November) The GOOD: The only reason we are giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is because the staff was friendly and prompt. The DRUNK: While we were there a drunk woman decided it would be amusing to steal their delivery bike and ride away. The manager and staff went running out of the joint chasing her down the street!

  • jennifer r.

oh my god this pizza is so good. My eyes are always WAY bigger than my stomach and I can't usually have more than a slice. I love to sit outside and people watch. Savannah's open container laws come in handy since the place is always packed. We always put our name in and go somewhere to grab a drink to go while we wait. The inside is a little tight and dingy (and the bathroom is TOTALLy sick - dont even try). Nothing else bad to say here!

When I was going to Savannah on a frequent basis for business, at least once a week Vinnie van Go-Go's was on the agenda. In fact, there was one week where we went every night (Pizza diet!). Haven't been back in years until today. Damn did I miss this place. I have yet to find better Pizza in Northern America! I mean, back home, Rubino's is pretty damn good. But this one is the bee's knees. Love it. Sidewalk-under-the-awning seating, enjoy the breeze going by to cool down from the heat and humidity of the day, and an über-delicious pizza with an adult beverage of your choice. Don't drink and drive, though. But then again, if you're in Savannah on business, this place is within staggering distance from many downtown hotels. Don't miss out on it! One note: Bring Cash. No plastic money accepted.

    (5)
  • Jennifer S.

My favorite: Slice of pepperoni pizza. You can buy a whole pizza or just slices. It's cash only. There's not a lot of seating, so you could take it and eat somewhere else, like in the square nearby.

These guys are amazing! We walked in 15 minutes before closing time (only because the place was already packed and still seating people) and they kept taking orders and serving well past their closing time. You could tell the staff was worn out, but they were willing. The pizza was fast and good and they have an excellent beer selection.

My husband and I went to Vinnie Van GoGo's 2 Saturdays ago in early July. We had always walked by it when we visited downtown Savannah, and always saw it packed with people, and an impressive crowd outside waiting for a table, so we finally decided to see what the fuss was all about.... We arrived and were seated fairly quickly, at a two-seat small table almost right by the hostess station. It took a good few minutes to have our drink order taken. The menu didn't impress me all that much....it was a pick-your-own-topping pizza joint when all was said and done. They did offer a regular pizza sauce (marinara), a white pizza sauce (ricotta and parmesean blend), and pesto sauce. At the 15 minute mark, the skies opened up and released a thunderstorm that poured buckets. As we were sitting at the edge of the dining patio, we decided to move one table further in, so as not to drench ourselves. When the head hostess saw that we did move tables, she gave us soul-piercing stare that hinted that she would've rather seen us soak than enjoy our meal in dry clothes. Our drinks came, and our pizza (a 10 inch with white sauce and broccoli and ground hamburger) arrived. It was good pizza. After we dug in, the roof then started leaking on us, so we were trying to reposition the table as to keep at least the pizza dry. After we ate all we could of the pizza, we waited for 15 minutes while the waitresses we busy trying to accomodate the other couples who were also trying to stay dry. It took us 50 minutes to eat what could have been a 25 minute meal. All in all, the pizza was good, but the service needs dire improvement- everything from the staff to the leaking roof. The waitresses wear Daisy Dukes and tight retro T-shirts, and their hair is messily upkept, if at all. Apparently they are trying to go for a "kitchy" or "trendy" style of work attire, but I find it distasteful. And they are quite rude. And as for the pizza, save yourself the hoopla of trying to get on Vinnie's wait list, and go to Mellow Mushroom-- MUCH better tasting pizza, and their variety of pizzas, calzones, salads, and beers will blow you away. And Mellow Mushroom's staff will not scoff at you for the slightest infraction. I've had their pizza both in Columbus, GA and now in Savannah, and both locations were delicious and pleasant.

Some things live up to the hype. LeBron James (entering the NBA, not in the playoffs of late). The Harry Potter film franchise (even if you don't like it, you have to concede its success as a cinematic business venture). And Vinnie Van Go-Go's. I was skeptical when my (New York born and bred) neighbor raved about the place and said she and her family stop there every year on their family trip to Florida. I was skeptical when I read some of the reviews here. I have been convinced. The place is not luxurious, and yes, they have a cash-only policy. But the pizza is transcendently good. Perfect crust, sauce, portions, texture, flavor - I've had a lot of good pizza, but I can't recall ever having a better one than the one I got in, of all places, Savannah, GA.

Maybe I missed the note. Maybe I went on a wrong night. Maybe it's because I'm from New York. Maybe it's because I didn't order a beer. Maybe I just don't have much love for pizza. For whatever reason, I did not think this was the best pizza I've ever had in my life. After reading rave reviews on Yelp, I decided to give this place a try. I mean, once in a while, I miss a good slice. But I guess reading those reviews helped me to set my expectation way too high, because the pizza did not meet my expectation. It was more like, "Meet me in the halfway point." However, the service was prompt and friendly as well. Oh, they only accept cash, so make sure to bring some!

My husband and I stumbled (literally) upon this place while partaking in St Patrick's day festivities in Savannah and instantly crowned it as the best pizza in the Lowcountry. The sauce, cheese, and crust blended perfectly. I will definitely make it a point to stop here next time I head to Savannah. The service was lightning quick, especially given the fact that there were hundreds of tourists milling about. If you love a good thin-crust new york style pizza, but can't afford the flight to NYC, head here instead!!

Good place! I would go back. They are not open for lunch on week days, which is when we tried to go. Instead we went back for dinner in evening. It was packed! Good patio seating in the City Market. There was a short wait for a table, but it was worth it. The staff was very hospitable. Pizza didn't take long to get. It is a good thin crust pizza. A good inexpensive dinner. I will return here next time I visit Savannah.

everyone seems to think this place is awesome, and it's not bad, but it's not the best... pros- ok selection of canned beer, outside seating, nice selection of toppings, dough is pretty good cons- CASH ONLY, there's always a wait, even though it's nice sitting outside, it seems like someone is always smoking a cigar while you are eating, everything is served in plastic, servers are always in the weeds....

Holy crap! Who would have thought it, but the best best NY style pizza I ever had was in Savannah Georgia! Wow...huge slices of thin, and I mean thin crust pizza, with the most tender and yet perfectly crispy crust! It is quite a bit of a wait, but I can't deduct for that when the wait is so worthwhile Sorry Joe's Pizza (Carmine St. in the Village), but I think you were just topped!.

  • Kyle E.

Best pizza in Georgia in my mind. This place is right in the popular market area. During dinner it can be hard to get a seat, inside or out. Inside is tiny and just a little bit cooler that outside under the awning. The pizza dough is fantastic, it is a bit chewy and crunchy in the very best way. I love to eat the crust plain! The slices are huge, I usually get 2 and that suits me just fine. Toppings probably would satisfy most any taste, so much variety. Last time I was here they didnt take cards, so make sure you have cash. All in all, a great slice of New York style pizza.

Vinnie's is in a HIGH traffic area at City Market so expect delays and a wait. We got there pretty late (10 pm or so) and had to still wait 20 minutes. The pizza is good and its a cool place to people watch. I'd go again for sure.

Excellent pizza and great service... once you make it inside. We tried the pesto pizza with sun dried tomatoes, black olives, and feta. Unbelievable. Definitely will be back.

Stopped in for a couple slices of pizza on the way home from the bar. There was lots of people sitting outside drinking beer. We ordered the pizza and sat down at the "bar." We could have had a beer while we waited, but we didn't. There was some crazy music playing on the radio. I noticed a fairly enormous collection of cassette tapes, but the music was coming from someone's Ipod. It didn't take long for our pizza to come out, even though the place was packed. The pizza was good. It's New York style, although not nearly as good as actual New York pizza. But it was very good. The slices are huge. We ordered two and they gave us a third free of charge. We put a sprinkle of garlic salt on it...yum. I think this will be a regular stop for the wife and I whenever we visit Savannah.

I'm not a pizza's lover but this place is really change my mind. I love their thin crust and all the toppings are delicious. Good service, great location when we sitting outside :)

Plenty of reviews written for this quaint local hot spot. Place was crowded late nite on Sunday. That promised for good things to come. I ordered my usual Pepperoni pie and enjoyed a few slice there at the bar As I enjoyed a cold beer. Great place.

Great pizza. Atmosphere was also good. The restaurant is in a good location, on the corner of City Market.

This was the first place we ate in Savannah and it was a good choice. The pizza was good, the waitress was very nice, and the beer was cold. It would probably not make a New Yorker forget his favorite pizza spot, but its location in the City Market makes it a great place to kick off a evening of fun.

I have friends that come from states away just to eat this pizza. It's so good, you'll crave it for days after eating it. I saw some reviewers talking about the way the staff dresses, but it's bohemian and totally Savannah's style. I think it just adds to the experience. Best original pizza in town. Mellow Mushroom doesn't count since it's a chain.

Vinnie's has been my absolute favorite pizza since I first ate here in 1992! These huge pizza slices have a crispy crust, perfectly melted cheese and your fav toppings at a reasonable price - this is probably because the owners are smart enough to have a cash only policy and pass the savings on to their customers! My fav is pepperoni & sausage but several of my friends always get the white pizza with feta & broc and adore it. The calzonnes are also incredible. Oh, and don't forget the spinnish salad! The location in city market is first rate, the vibe is pure fun and the kids will love it! If the plastic cups, metal plates, and cash only policy bother you there are plenty of the same old chains found in every city with their brain dead mediocrity - don't take up the space - there is always a crowd hungry for a great time with great food at a great price waiting to be seated!

  • Liana P.

This is plain good pizza, simple menu, which is good for me I have the hardest time making food decisions! Delicious food, good friendly service, and outside seating is a must, it's fun to people watch in the park across the street. I think they deliver too!

My fiance and I LOOOOOVE Vinnie's. (So much that he bought a t-shirt from there which is very rare) He will go there 3x a trip! (which are only 2-3 day spans) The pizza is delicious and HUGE. I do mean larger than a regular sized piece of paper. The service is always great. They only accept cash. What better place to enjoy a slice and people watch?

  • Steve Y.

I was visiting Savannah for the day, but was dying for some pizza. I asked a couple of college people where to go pizza and all said in unison: Vinnie's. The long and short of it is that this is some kick ass pizza. I took it to go and ate it in one of the near by parks. Vinnie's pizza and watching the babes sun bathe in the park in Savannah: a good combination. But leave the credit cards at home; they only take cash.

Vinnie Van Go-Go's has very, very good pizza. The calzones are also very good. The slices of pizza are very large and the prices you find on the menu are great. The location is also essential for the great atmosphere here as well. Sitting outside is a must. It is located at the end of City Market so there is always something to entertain you. Great people watching as well if you like that as much as I do. Sometimes the wait can be long, but with its location in City Market that is not much of a problem. In this situation, go grab a beer at Wild Wing and repeat until your table becomes available. Vinnie Van Go-Go's is a very good time. If you haven't tried it, def take the time to eat here. You will not be disappointed. The service could be better, but overall, it is great.

Excellent location especially on the patio facing the square. Good pizza for an even better price. Spinach salad with feta was fresh. Great place to rest after a long tour. Kids really enjoyed sitting next to the kitchen window watching the cook toss the pizza dough. Pizzas are quite large.

Absolutely the best years of my life up until now were spent drinking an oilcan of Foster's, chowing down on a gigantic slice of Pizza, and getting comfortably full before going out to the bars here. This was one of my favorite places to eat in Savannah, whether sit-down or takeout, the uneven, crispy crust, gobs of cheese, and copious toppings never disappointed. The fact that a slice is 2 times the size of my head wasn't unappreciated either. I can't recommend this joint enough if you like NY style pizza. Nowhere better unless you want to go to Jersey or New York itself.

Love it! Very cool place to eat (cheap) and people watch. Slices are huge and so are the full pizzas. We enjoy sitting at the bar and grabbing a slice and a beer. CASH ONLY.

Great pizza and dirt cheap..and don't forget i'm from Chicago. I know good pizza. Loved that as a family of 6, we could order two pizzas and some bread sticks and eat dinner for under $30. I wish there were more places like this by us. I'm envious savannah, envious.

It isn't the best pizza I've had, I mean- I live in Chicago... but it is the best pizza I've found South of the Mason-Dixon line. It is kind of cool/odd, you order by the slice (a quarter pizza) and you pick your own toppings. It makes you wonder if a whole anchovy pineapple pizza gets made for every weirdo who orders one slice.... It is in a pretty cool area and there is a lot of outdoor seating, makes for a really nice night. Its a great place to grab a bite, hang out and talk. Here is the breakdown: * Wait staff:Don't expect anything to come quickly, but hey this is the South, so you knew that. All in all pretty good. * Drink Menu: Beer * Menu: Pizza * Parking: Its Savannah, walk people! * Dress: Very casual

On our recent trip to Savannah, we arrived at our hotel (the Springhill Suites Marriott Historic District) around 5pm, checked-in and planned to head out for a quick dinner. We have two kids, ages 3 and 6, so we were looking for something quick and accomodating (unfortunately not able to enjoy the finer cuisine in Savannah). However, a thunderstorm rolled-in so we decided to order delivery instead and hang out in the hotel room. A quick look on Yelp showed this place, and delivery was available....sold. We ordered a single large pizza, 1/2 cheese and 1/2 pepperoni/mushroom. My wife and I love "NY style" pizza, so this sounded like a great option. Phone ordering was quick and delivery was available to our hotel, we were told that it would be about 45m to 1 hour (Friday night). To our pleasant suprise, a knock on our hotel door occurred about 40 minutes later, and our pizza arrived hot and fresh. I believe it was delivered via bike, the delivery guys was all wet, but the pizza was warm, dry and fine. (I tipped him well for the rainy delivery). Well, the pizza was very good....not great, but definitely very good. It was not really what I would consider thin-crust, NY-style.....more like something in between, closer to a traditional, slightly chewy crust (not jaw-killing chewy, just a little chewy, so not bad). But there are a lot of variations to "NY-style" pizza, so I'm sure this is just a little on the thicker side of those variations. The crust was nicely browned and a little crispy on the outside, maybe with a little oil or butter, but not too much, and had a little seasoning on it. Yummy! And the ingredients (cheese, pepperoni and mushroom) were fresh and tasty. Overall, a very good pizza...not the best I've had, but pretty good. Well worth the price and convenience! ($20 total, which included a $4.50 tip for delivery). One slightly funny (and slightly annoying) note, the delivery guy did not even hesitate or start to give me change when I handed him a $20 (for a $15.50 bill) bill. $4.50 is a little steep for a delivery tip in my book (I used to deliver pizzas myself), but I didn't mind too much as I was on vacation and it was rough weather outside). Positives: Cheap, convenient, delivery offered and was pretty quick, very good pizza, fresh toppings, good crust! Negatives: Not much seating available in restaurant and mostly outdoors (not great in the heat of summer), not really thin-crust NY-style (if you are looking for thin crush, this may be a negative, but it was good!), only accept cash, not appropriate for larger groups or kids due to the lack of seating/space. Overall, a very good experience and product, would order from them again or eat-in (without kids).

Decent pizza. The joint gets crazy crowded due to the location. At least it's cheap eats for the area if you're craving pizza and on a budget. It gets kinda warm due to the seating area being exposed to the elements. So be kind and use deodorant, please. And if mosquitoes find your blood particularly sweet and you happened to forget the Off!, then you might be SOL. o_O

Stopped by the first night of a four day stay in Savannah. Serves good pizza and has nice outdoor seating. Fun place to stop if you are in the Marketplace in downtown Savannah. Open to 11pm or later most nights, so a decent place to go if you do get in late. Only accepts cash.

One of the top places in town for a decent slice of pizza. That doesn't mean it's great pizza mind you, but it's probably the best you'll get around here. The sauce has flavor, the cheese is plentiful, but the size could be a little bit bigger. Usually crowded, but every time I've eaten in the service has been fast.

I don't eat non gluten free pizza but my husband enjoyed his midnight slice very much. The spinach salad is one of the best we've ever had. It's an experience not to be missed. The staff was very friendly. Cash only!

One of the best Pizza places in Savannah, great New York style pizza. large slices, fresh toppings. I'm from Long Island, New York..and this is very close , if not better than authentic New York style pizza. On the weekends this place has a line, with a waiting list. Tip: If it's just you, and another person, walk inside and find a seat at the counter, it will cut down on waiting for a seat, unless you want to eat outside.

ok, so for 4: $2.50 pizza $3.00 Yuengling They do not care that you are there. Also: you are sweaty and some tour bus keeps driving by, passengers drooling (via hunger or mental defect). Fold that pizza and jam it in your mouth/!@#!@!@#

The servers were all very nice, and the pizza was fine, just nothing that blew our socks off. We had pepperoni, green peppers, and feta cheese with tomato sauce. Neither the sauce or crust were extraordinary compared to others we've had; it was pretty average. A good place for a slice, but it didn't blow our minds.

Very yummy pizza. I like sitting inside at the counter, but on nice days the patio is a great alternative. Fast and friendly service. They lose a star because they only take cash and they don't open until 4 (12 on weekends), so unfortunately you can't get lunch there during the week.

While meandering around River Street on my first day visiting Savannah, I overheard a local recommend Vinnie Van Go-Go's as the best pizza in town. I quickly made a mental note and tucked it away in my back pocket. Later that night, my husband and I headed out to dinner kind of late for a Sunday, worried we wouldn't find anything decent still open at that hour. As we trudged along near City Market, I remembered Vinnie Van Go-Go's. Suddenly, pizza never sounded so good. Lucky for us, Vinnie Van Go-Go's was open late. Tired and weary, we plopped down on the patio chairs and decided to go simple: traditional pizza with red sauce, pepperoni and green bell peppers. The pizza arrived rather quickly, and I have to say, it was indeed one of the best-tasting pies I've had in a long while. And in Savannah, land of po'boys and sweet tea, to boot! Who knew? The crust was thin and crispy, the sauce sweet and tangy. Just enough mozzarella to pull away from the pie a long string of cheesy goodness when taking a bite. Before I knew what had happened, I realized I'd eaten half of a 14-inch pie by myself! My husband was impressed. I never knew I could put away pizza like that! Vinnie Van Go-Go's also serves calzones and gourmet pizza options, like white sauce. They also offer a selection of domestic and import beers. And the prices were phenomenally cheap - one medium pizza, one soda and one Moretti cost us $18! You can't find good pizza that cheap back home in Seattle. In all fairness, though, during my three days in Savannah, I did not see any other pizza places, so it's hard to say with absolute certainty whether or not Vinnie Van Go-Go's has the best pizza in town. But even without testing the competition, if there is any, I'm willing to bet on Vinnie. You won't be disappointed. Unless you're out of cash - no checks or credit cards!

Cheap eats and outdoor seating..very busy during dinner The South officially has a place that is very NYC style pizza and very good calzones + they offer sun dried tomatoes and . broccoli as toppings (not a common thing) Hit an ATM before going they don't accept plastic- this place is delicious.

CASH ONLY!!! It's time they started to accept other form of payment! (the gratuity would be more for the wait staff) 45 mins wait but was worth it. Went here from a friend recommendation. I was not disappointed. Everything in here screams college/university feels. Fast pizza, and hot pizza. Love seeing them making the pizza. Everything was almost A+ except for the CASH ONLY!!! Please accommodate travelers who don't carry cash!!!

I love Vinnie Van GoGo's by the slice. They have just about every topping you need, but if, like me, it's hard for you to make decisions, it'll be easy to go overboard and ask for more toppings than the face of your slice will allow. I'd go back to Sav just for V.V.G.G!

Went into town to try out this so called "Good" pizza....We got the pie to go half plain and half pep/mush. On observing the pizza being made, I assumed (poor me...) that the pizza may actually prove me wrong and be good! I am from NJ and haven't tasted a good pizza since moving here in Dec 2011. Well, when we opened the box the pizza had very thick crust, which was ok with us and the toppings were generous. On tasting the pizza, it just was NOT comparative to a NY style pizza let alone NJ! The cheese was horrible!! The crust had flaky crumbs all over the bottom sorta like bread crumbs, maybe they leave these in the oven then place the pie on top, gross....Well, Vinnie Van.....we will Go...Go...somewhere else for pizza. Pizza Hut had better tasty pie, now that is saying something here!

I love this place! Amazing pizza, great music, fun and attractive employees, youthful atmosphere, great beer selection, and the pizza...did I mention is AMAZING! I had such a good time! Not for the stuffy or snotty, but great fun for the young at heart!

  • Josh S.

This place has some of the best New York style pizza I have ever tasted in Georgia. This seems to be the place where poor college students going to SCAD feed themselves. Who can blame them though, the prices of pizza are dirt cheap, and the slices are mondo big! First time I went everyone was only ordering a slice or two of pizza , and they suggested I do the same. So I did, and mannnn I could barely finish them. It also provides a nice atmosphere to just chill in with some friends. It's located at the end of city market which is in a prime location of River Street. They stay open pretty late on the weekends, so if your looking to fill your belly before getting piss drunk this place is highly recommended. Also be on the lookout for the guy who looks like Vincent Van Gogh delivering pizza's on his bike.

Love this place! Quirky and fun! *Remember Cash only*(Kinda the only thing that is lame about this place.) The pizza slices are huge and delicious. So many toppings to choose from. Crispy and flavorful. The service is so-so, but you dine for atmosphere is food. The outdoor tent dining is fun, especially on a rainy day.

Stopped in for lunch - was suprised to learn they don't open until noon. At 11:50, the waitresses were gathered out front smoking (which I usually think is a bit tacky). Once they opened, we were seated and served promptly. Service was accomodating, but not overly friendly. Pizza was supurb. We would definitely return.

One of the best pizzas I've ever had. Top 3. Everytime I come back to Savannah to visit, I go straight to Vinnie's from the airport. Freakin YUM.

  • Magan T.

I think it's the best pizza in Savannah, since there are few pizza joints that aren't restaurant chains. It's a thin, crunchy crust with all the crazy toppings you an imagine. It has outdoor seating with a great view of the square and in the best part of town... the historic district. I'll definitely go back next time I visit.

  • Justin D.

Yes, this is a great place to get a slice or pie of NY pizza. I would go here for any meal and love it. My only gripe is that THEY ONLY TAKE CASH. This isn't the 30s, people use credit cards & Debit cards. The food is great, the best in the SAV. that is why there is usually a line to get in.

    (4)
  • Tim C.

The pizza here is extremely underwhelming and the same can also be said for the unfriendly servers. The crust, sauce and cheese are horribly bland. I feel bad for the Yankee sheeple, the local clowns and sheltered college students who have no clue and think this is awesome. A decent pizza is supposed to be flavorful, not a bland piece of triangular cut cardboard sprinkled with old Ragu and government cheese. You can top it with everything under the sun but it still won't hide the fact that this is an absolutely weak pizza experience.

Best pizza in Savannah hands down been in business for years, the service is decent. Due to its location it stays busy.

    (4)
  • Marie R.

Best Pizza in town by far and coolest pizza dining experience....sometimes you have to wait a while to get a table which kinda sucks but if you stake out the bar you can usually get a spot.......outside is better. Mellow Mushroom is in a running second for pizza.

  • James G.

Ahh, tasty, melty, crusty, saucy goodness, this pizza rocks!! I stop by I grab a pie every time I'm in Savannah, eclectic mix of art students, hipsters, and a few tourists. Decent Beer list. Wait times could be long sometimes, but place your order, take a stroll, Savannah is a beautiful place. Great Cigar shop around the corner that sells everything from Nat Shermans to things they shouldn't sell. Damn embargoes, lol.

  • Todd H.

WOW! Their pizza is AMAZING. Found out about this place on tripadvisor and there is a reason it has such high ratings with over 600+ reviews. I had a slice (which was very big) with ham and feta cheese on it. You could tell the toppings were extremely fresh and the pizza was some of the best pizza I've had in a long time. The crust was perfect and not greasy at all. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. We were staying at a hotel about 20 minutes away and it was worth every minute of the drive. It was so good I wanted to go back for lunch the next day. Oh yeah, and it's extremely affordable the two of us ate for about $10.

Im from NY so for me to say this is good pizza, means its really good. This is one of the best pizza places Ive ever been to , even in NY. The seating could be a little better and less crammed. But they do what they can for the space they have. And its cash only. Its 2009, get a atm. But besides that, service and good was great.

We were a bit surprised at how busy this place gets; had a 20 minute wait at 9:30. Worth the wait. Amazing pizza ... We had mushroom, peppers, sausage on the house crust / sauce. Their crust is chewy deliciousness. We decorated our slices with several of the provided pizza condiments (chili flakes, garlic salt, oregano) and it would be difficult to pick a winner.

My boyfriend is originally from Savannah, and he took me here when we were visiting his folks one weekend. Yum! The pizza was excellent, and the urban feel of the place made me feel like I hadn't left midtown Atlanta. The slices are huge, and the list of toppings is extensive. We had our food in under 10 minutes, and it was excellent! The salads were also super yum. I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in town!

While visiting Hilton Head, someone told us if we were going to be in Savannah during our trip, then we MUST stop by Vinnie Van Go-Go's. And we did. The pizza was OMG good. The crust was thin and crispy. Most thin crusted pizza slices will bend or fold when you pick it up. Not this slice of heaven. Even the individual slices are made to order fresh!! And the slices are big. Seating is limited...we arrived soon after they opened and sat at the bar. Very interesting decor. Highly recommend you stop at this place if you're in the area!

  • Tiff Y.

The pizza here was awesome! We ordered a medium with double pepperoni and it was delicious and HUGE! It was very reasonably priced as well- we both had tea and our bill was under $18. The servers and staff were a bit on the odd side- but we had everything we needed and the food was perfect! The only complaint I would have is that we ended up in Savannah on a VERY cold weekend and we had to dine outside- it was covered with tarps and they had small heaters, but it was still pretty chilly for a meal. We will definetly go back!

    (5)
  • Bob N.

Good pizza, caustic staff. Only cash. Only sweet tea. Crisp bottom but still a chewy, floppy crust. Spinach, feta, black olives, sun-dried tomatoes are my choice.

    (4)
  • Julie D.

Nothing wrong with eating pizza under a covered patio sitting on rusted old outdoor furniture. Well, nothing wrong when the pizza is this GOOD and this CHEAP. Tons of kids hang out here and the cost is why. Plus, they have tons of choices for toppings, I had sun-dried tomatoes and pineapple. It's a welcome break from eating all the fancy schmancy food that Savannah has to offer.

  • Ernst T.

Pretty good NY pizza - Vinnie can measure itself with the famous NY and New Haven pizza palaces. I have eaten in all of them and Vinnie is the real thing.

    (4)
  • Melissa H.

They don't have a lot of seating. The skies opened up right after we arrived, so we had to wait forever for a table. No one wanted to budge because it was raining really really hard. That's not the staff's fault, but I wish they had somewhere to wait. We ended up wedged against a wall, in the middle of a ton of cross traffic, which wasn't real comfortable. The pizza was good, but nothing special. I have no real complaints, it just wasn't exactly remarkable. When I visit Savannah again, I will go back and see how they do the second time around.

    (3)
  • Erin G.

So good. The first place I ever ate in Savannah; I loved it then and I love it now, and this is why I'm fat :) City Market is one of my favorite places in Savannah, so Vinnie's is very conveniently located for me - perfect spot, great food, wonderful atmosphere. Everyone who ever visits Savannah has to come here. You really can't eat more than one or two slices at a time, but it's a great game to see what all combinations of delicious toppings you can put on those slices. I wish Vinnie's took credit card, tho' ... so many special trips to the ATM for pizza!

    (5)
  • Melanie C.

After reading the reviews for Vinnie's, it seems that this is a place that people either really love or really hate. I think that the deciding factor on whether or not people have a great experience or a horrible one is really just based on their assumptions and expectations when they go in. If you are looking for an upscale, trendy Italian place where waiters wear black pants and tuxedo shirts while serving gourmet pizza, then this is not your place. If, on the other hand, you are just looking for a place to get a slice of pizza to soak up some of the alcohol from the surrounding bars, then this is definitely your place. The pizza is tasty and cheap and the people that work there are artsy and fun. If tattoos, piercings, and funky hair make you nervous then I say 2 things to you: 1) skip this place and sell out by supporting a chain rather than a local business and, 2) lighten up! If you do decide to stop off at Vinnie's, then skip the whole faux dine-in experience. Get your pizza to go and grab one of the many benches in the area. The people watching is fantastic! And don't forget, it's cash only!!

we stopped for a slice as a snack in the late afternoon. the slices were big, hot, and tasty. it's a little different than the new york pizzeria's because they seem to take plain slices and dress them up with whatever toppings you want instead of having a variety of pies already made. big thumbs up.

Food is cheap and totally filling (for the monster eaters)... The calzones are HUGE.... Get it!!

  • Tom M.

Good stuff here for sure Pizza or Calzone's it doesn't matter. Both are tatsy. It is best to follow Jessica R's advise (another Vinnie's review) and order to go and eat in the square or market area. A great experience on a sunny afternoon in Savannah.

This pizza is the best I had in Savannah (except for my random late night stops after the bar). The pizza comes in slices as big as your head and I found the best way to eat it is by folding the slice NY style. The little restaurant gets really crowded though so I would recommend getting a to go order and eating pizza in the square.

  • Naser A.

The largest slice of pizza I had in my entire life. The pizza is made in a "Napolese" (Excuse my English, I hope I spelled it right) style, it is a thin style pizza. You pick your own toppings. I think one slice would be enough, unless of you're a pizza monster like me that order two to satisfy his needs

Cash only dudes! This is perhaps the best NY style pizza you can get in the entire southeast USA. Seriously. It may not be wood burning or charcoal oven but that won't matter. The place is absolutely casual and looks like they hired the entire SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) to work there. A very cool bunch of staff I must say! The pieces of pizza are huge and purchased by the slice. The dough is authentic and hand tossed. Go in, order a slice (cash only) along with a pop, home brewed ice tea, or beer. In the warm weather months the line ups are long, and for good reason. Yum Yum Yum! I go there every time I am in Savannah. END

Vinnie's is what it is and isn't trying to be anything other than a place to get good pizza. Me and my two guest split the spinach salad and we each got our own slice (mine was pineapple and spicy sausage- so good) and we left full and happy! Although I would only dine at Vinnie's again with just 1 or two people. Tables are small and crowded, and if it rains.....plan on getting wet even with the walls down!

  • Krystal H.

Best pizza I've ever had!!!! I wish it were closer to my house! I got the regular pizza with pepperoni. In my opinion, I think this is the best way to find out how the pizza is "bare bones". Service was friendly, and they were packed. That's always a good sign!

If ur looking for some good pizzza and/or New York style pizza. This is the place to go, big slices for the low low. Best in town CASH only, atm on-site

Good, cheap, huge slices of pie...stellar people watching...what more could you ask for? Bring cash! Not much though, like I said, it's cheap

I visited here on a visit to Savannah one summer. Pizza is delicious, thin crust, perfection. I also tried the spinach salad which was great. Short wait right at opening:)

Great Pizza, we had to go back for a second! Being an upstate New Yorker, pizza is a delicate subject and when we find someone who gets right like home we have to acknowledge it.

Great pizza! We stumbled upon Vinnie Van Go-Go's one night after going to Club One. It's a really cool pizza place, but a little bit confusing when you first walk in, especially if it's busy. We waited in a long line along the wall, directly across from where a bunch of guys were making the pizza behind a steel prep area. They had the EDM turned up (which was cool), and it was hot in the place, but not uncomfortably so. We really didn't know where to stand or how the ordering process went since we aren't locals, but we got in line where we saw everyone standing, and waited. The wait was long, and we noticed that the manager was a bit brassy with customers that were asking questions (although we couldn't clearly hear what was being said), so we chalked it up to it being a busy night with a long line, and quite a few tables waiting on their pizzas, so he was probably stressed out. It was really neat watching the guys tossing the pizza dough while the music played, and everyone seemed really focused. It's definitely great pizza, well worth the wait, and although we got ours for take-out, we would definitely consider grabbing a table the next time we are in town. Keep in mind that Vinnie Van Go-Go's is CASH ONLY, so be prepared.

Food: Pizza by the slice. I added mushroom and fresh spinach and it was oh so good and fresh and the red sauce was perfect. The slice is gigantic and was one of the best "slices" I have ever had. Not greasy at all. Price: Super cheap! Service: Fast, friendly and service with a smile thanks to our server Jordan. Never had to ask for refills. I would definitely come back here if I'm ever in Savannah.

Ridiculously good pizza! We were hungry and tired from a day of touring savannah, spotted this little hole in the wall (literally) and decided to try it, best decision of the day. Pizza slice is huge! Definitely recommend to stop by and try it.

  • Deli G.

Pizza is amazing!! The wait was a little crazy and staff wasn't all that nice but the food made up for it

    (5)
  • Ryan M.

Great slice of pizza for super cheap. You get more than your money's worth with the gigantic portion they give. Located within the main market area, it is easy to find and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. It is more of a traditional pizzeria, but there's nothing that stood out as exceptional on our visit.

  • Abner G.

This is the best pizza i have ever tried, it is absolutely delicious from the crust to the fresh toppings and cheese. Granted, the service is not the best, but with food this good I really don't care, and that is saying a lot. I also love their location, really convenient to most downtown hotels and attractions. They get really busy so plan ahead. Vinnie is definitely the place to go when you're in Savannah.

  • Sara D.

Such a fun place! Loved the outdoor tables. I got pizza here for my daughter two nights while we were in Savannah and I "helped" eat some of the very generous sized slice. It was delicious! They were very busy both nights so I got a slice to go. Cash only but they have an ATM.

    (4)
  • Jennifer T.

I'm not going to lie the pizza is a 6/5!!! But the service is about a -1/5. They are too cool to smile. If you don't know the drill then you are ignored. Will I go back? Yes bc pizza is that good but a smile wouldn't hurt.

We were looking forward to this place from all the rave reviews. We wanted to order on a Saturday and have it delivered but they took the phone off the hook. Three hours we tried to get through because we'd walked 10 miles that day and just couldn't walk the two miles there. We weren't going to give them another shot but the night before we left, we weren't feeling going out so we decided to give them another try and they picked up. We got a pep and cheese delivered. We're not sure what the hub bub is about. Very little sauce, not much taste even with the spices we could scrounge up in the rental. We tried another place that wasn't much better so I don't think pizza is Savannah's forte. For those who like it, enjoy.

  • Jennifer G.

Don't miss this. We hit it EVERY time we are in Savannah. It's very small. Could be warm and hard to get a seat. We always sit at the counter. The slices are HUGE and the dough is perfect. They open at 12:00pm on Sunday HOWEVER they don't serve beer until 12:30pm :( That sort of sucked but if that's the worst thing I can say... this place rules!

I live in NYC but was born and raised in Georgia. So twice a year I go to savanna to visit my family. We've always enjoyed van go go in the past but this time was different. First off we go give the 2 hostess our name and number of guests in our party. They had a few chairs sitting out so we took a seat like we had every year for the past few years. All of a sudden the hostess came over and scolded us for sitting in the chairs. We didn't say anything we just got up. A few min later a few other people sat in the same chairs. This time she just yelled at him from across the little waiting area. I was so embarrassed for him. I will say he stood his ground and didn't get up The rudeness continued at the table. Our waitress was also rude. We decided no pizza was worth dealing with the rude staff so we left. I'll take my $ somewhere else from now on

I've been to Savannah twice. The first time I went, we ate here once. The second time, we ate here FOUR times during our trip. The pizza is fantastic, inexpensive, and the atmosphere is great. And it doesn't hurt that it's right by the nightlife, so it's great for a late snack or a meal. Sitting outside is definitely the way to go, as the inside is super hot (has to be to cook that delicious pizza!!). Just don't forget this place is cash-only. There is an ATM inside, though.

Pizza ordered by the slice and sitting outside in historic downtown Savannah. Great pizza! I order one slice and ate it so quickly I thought about getting another, glad I didn't because one was just the right amount. You know it's good pizza when you don't see crust on any of the other dinners plates.

Bring cash! We stopped in Friday night around 10:30 or 11 - it was a little crowded and definitely loud, but that didn't deter us from our search for pizza. We had a pepperoni/sausage pizza and it was very tasty. Our leftovers re-heated well also. I had a wine drink that was mixed with Sprite and something else... I can't remember what it was called, but it didn't taste bad at all. You could definitely have quite a few of those easily! Would return if I find myself in Savannah again.

My review (this time) will be based on Delivery Pizza. Absolutely Fan-fn-tastic! On this particular evening: It was getting late, I've got the hungry horrors, I can't drive cuz I have been drinking, too far to walk from the hotel becuz of all of the above. I called "another place" before Vinnie's and they forwarned me that it could be 1 to 2 hrs!! becuz there were several delivery orders before me. One pizza at $19.95 (before tax/tip). I opted to pass and keep checking around. Called Vinnie's, aware that it's going to CASH ONLY (thank you fellow Yelpers), thinking this might be to my advantage. And it certainly was. They took my order. They said about 30-40 minutes (although the order taker did NOT remind me that it would be CASH ONLY). In 30 minutes, my pizza arrived! Quick and Hot. Perfect! I ordered a medium mushroom, ham, pineapple at +/-$16.00. Gave him a $20-keep-the-change. The pizza was wonderful; generously topped and nice chewy crust. They are definitely bookmarked for when I am in Savannah again whether it is delivery or not!

Should be on Diners Drive ins and Dives. Fun , funky place. Pizza was great . Coming from NJ I know pizza and this was great. The service was great and nice people are running the place. Good sauce, great dough. It was slammed on a Sunday for lunch so I would expect it always to be that way. It was great and if I lived here this would be my go to pizza joint.

    (5)
  • Jim D.

Meh. Everyone was talking about how great this place was, but the pizza was very mediocre. It was not bad. It was just average. There is too much average pizza out there. Also, you may wait over an hour for that average pizza.

April 27, 2014 Sunday - lunch 12:15 PM 1 adult and a child Atmosphere - 4 stars Food - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Background - I found this place through Yelp, I think it has the most reviews for all the pizza places. Well it is in the heart of the tourist district. Atmosphere - Classic pizza joint, a bit of a dive but loaded with character. I recommend sitting outside on a cool night. We were on the clock so we sat inside. They have a bar and a few tables in the one corner. Big windows so you still can people watch while talking and eating. Food Drinks - I had a Sweet Water 420, it was on tap. Appetizer - none. My Main Course - Pepperoni pizza, medium, the dough for the pizza was what made it. It was so hot when it got to us. Probably less than a minute out of the oven before it our table. The dough was soft and gooey heaven of a crust. The pizza had ample cheese and good coverage of pepperonis. Dessert - No dessert as we are heading to Leopold's later. Service - First and foremost CASH ONLY, signs are everywhere. Our waitress was on it. She even noticed as we came in that I stopped and checked out the taps. So she knew I wanted some beer. Later she saw us checking out local poster scene that they had on a wall and brought us a paper on those events. Bonus! Future - Yes if the parking does not frustrate me.

What a saucy place! The pizzas are great. Hands down one of the top in savannah. Ask for the pizzas to be made extra crispy for that better crunch! Great sauce great cheese, but just a little skimpy when it came to the cheese on the regular pizza. Other than that go enjoy!!

Best deal in Savannah. Great, thin crust, pizza by the slice. It's cash only and there's usually a wait but it's worth it.

Located one block of River street in this eclectic city of Southern charm with tree moss, seersucker suits, piercings, nose rings and tourist from all over the world is of course a pizza joint. It's the ambiance and al fresco dining that is the real charm. The beer is plentiful and cold on a stick night, while the pizza is well above average but a tad under wood or coal fired. A great people watching place and close to the happenings.

  • Kenny M.

Great location in the city market area. The wait for a table was less than 30 minutes, and the pizza came out quickly after we ordered. New York style pizza with fresh ingredients! Having the leftovers the next day was also delicious!

Heard it was good pizza. ... yep it's good pizza! Lol the crust is very important, and this crust is good, nice and thin. The place is funky, hipster, it's cool to see the guy tossing pizza up front! Definitely good place to go when you got your buzz on late night! !:)

This place was busy (but not packed) even on a rainy Sunday evening. I opted to sit at the bar. I settled in with a menu and made eye contact with three different waitresses and to my surprise, didn't get much of a welcome after several minutes. No one said they'd be with me or even spoke a word. Confused, I started wondering if maybe I was supposed to order somewhere and then sit while I waited. About that time one of the three waitresses took my order. The calzone was phenomenal. I watched folks around me order slices of pizza and noticed it was the kind with the soft, puffy bubbles on the crust. Mmm. I'd be back for sure.

I don't really understand what all the fuss is about with this place. Two slice of plain pizza with two sodas was around $10, which I think is expensive. The pizza wasn't even good. They were big slices, but they didn't have a great taste. They tasted burnt, and it was partially burnt on the bottom.

My wife and I went there last week while on our honeymoon in Savannah. The pizza was pretty good (not fantastic, not terrible either) and fairly moderately priced. I was fairly annoyed at a couple of their policies though... We placed the order for the pizza to go and, since it was raining, we asked if we could sit at the bar and have a couple beers while we were waiting for the pizza to be ready. The server told us that the bar was only for people dining in. Despite the fact that we had just spent about $30 on pizza, there were still tables that were open at which other customers could sit, and we would be spending money while sitting at the bar, we had to wait outside under an already crowded awning while it was raining. It just seemed to be a very ridiculous policy to turn away business like that. The place also only takes cash. In a time where most people don't carry cash, to not take a credit card is pretty ridiculous as well. Had it been a hot dog stand or a place where the average meal only cost a few dollars, it'd be one thing (not wanting to pay the VISA/MC fee of accepting credit), but when it's ~$15+, it's a little inconvenient to the customer. While the pizza was good, there are definitely better options for comparable price that would value your business far more so than this place.

after a cold day out in Savannah and then feeling sick I just wanted to stay in our hotel room, but didn't want room service... so we knew of this place and ordered in. very good pizza being from the south. being new yorkers it doesn't top our pizza but it was good :) probably the best pizza I've ever had in the south.

We're always pleased with Vinnie's. We've been going there off and on the more than 6 years, and it has remained consistent. Tonight my family of 3 ate for less than 20 dollars, and everyone was pleased. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is fun. If there is a huge wait, just order your food and eat at one of the many benches or tables along the City Market area.

We went there for lunch....we split a salad and each had pizza... She had a slice of cheese and pepperoni and I had two slices of cheese and pepperoni with extra cheese and pepperoni....where they put it I don't know but it wasn't on the pizza...honestly we both thought the pizza was OK....by no means was it anything special...will not be going back there again

Vinnie's walks the walk and talks the talk. Definitely the best pizza in Savannah and the perfect scene for hanging out with friends and kicking back with some cold beers. Centrally located in the heart of the City Market and drinking (ahem, Historic) District, Vinnie's is a Savannah landmark that definitely shouldn't be missed by anyone who visits this fair city. Good times and good eats for people of all ages! The ambiance definitely doesn't scream fine dining and is in fact quite run down, but you are eating pizza and drinking beers after all so if you have problems with the decor you should probably move on down the road to Ruth's Chris. As for the pizza, the basic cheese/sauce option is by itself out of this world good, even before adding on from the exciting variety of available toppings. Delicious crust baked perfectly every time, so good words can't even describe. Stop thinking about it and go now!

Crazy place in a crazy atmosphere, but killer pizza! By the slice , huge , or by the whole pizza pie . Great location in the City Market part of town. Service is very good as well. Not your usual pizza joint but very original .

Came here with my girlfriend on our final night visiting Savannah. She had recommended it from a previous visit there. Being from New York City it's hard to give other pizza places credit. Vinnie Van Go-Go's pizza is very good. Not the best pizza I've ever had but very good for a place outside of New York. The place was quite busy for a late Thursday night. The waitress was very friendly and the bill was quite inexpensive. If you are looking for a pizza place in Savannah I would highly recommend Vinny Van Go-Go's.

Average pizza. Long wait. The staff was very rude on all aspects. Wouldn't go back if you paid me.

We had Vinnie Van Go-Go's a few months ago during one of our trips to take our kid back to SCAD. It's okay pizza. It didn't knock my socks off. I do love the location/area where the pizzeria is located and the enjoy the outdoor seating. The garlic oregano bread sticks were meh. I mean if you're having some pizza to kill time, it's a good stop. If you are looking for a culinary pizza experience, this isn't it.

I really hate when things live up to the hype. Somehow I've convinced myself that I'm more discerning than the masses but alas, vinnys is all around great. It's grungy and tiny. Sit at the bar and make some friends. And order a piece of pizza that's bigger than your head and actually tastes like pizza! The prices are ridiculously cheap and there are tons of things to sprinkle on your pizza- economy sized garlic, oregano, Parmesan, red pepper... USE ALL THE SPRINKLES. Be warned, they don't open until 4 on weekdays. The man and I stood quietly outside at noon our last day in town with the sad realization we couldn't go a second time. Don't be us. So don't be ashamed to eat cheap in savannah. And don't be afraid to skip the seafood for a meal. This is worth it.

  • Jennifer S.

Had a quick slice as an afternoon snack and it really lived up to all of the wonderful reviews! Delicious! Thin crust NYC style with a no frills atmosphere but super friendly staff is what you can expect at this place. You know it's good when the locals eat here even though it's in tourist town.

  • Michael S.

For the price and size you cannot beat it. Pizza is good, no complaints. I had it to go and ended up not eating it for a while so its hard to say just how good it was. But cheap, fast and at a minimum good enough is enough for me to go back! Bring cash!

  • Danna Q.

We finally tried this local spot on this trip to Savannah. It was great! Our slices were huge! Price was reasonable. We would definitely come back. My only negative was the wait for the table for two people was more than a half an hour when u could see free tables available.

We were staying on Bay street and decided to save some money for dinner. This pizza joint was packed all day and we decided to give it a try. It was excellent. We had a pitcher of beer, spinach salad with feta and a medium pizza. All was better than I expected and at a reasonable price. Would recommend without hesitation. lots of families go here and they have a nice outdoors seating area that can be protected for those afternoon down pours.

I loved the location, right in the city market! We didn't have to wait long to be seated, and the waitress was very prompt. I had a slice of ham and pineapple, the price was excellent and the pizza was delicious, my only complaint is the toppings were a bit large for my liking. I would prefer the pineapple cut smaller. Other than that it was a great experience, I would definitely visit again.

Biggest pizza I have ever had! It's cheap for that huge pizza. Many choices of toppings and they put lots of them on it. Only thing is cash only! But they have atm also, so don't worry about not carrying cash

"Gotta see Vinnie when I'm in his hood!" Stumbled upon Vinnie about 2 years ago and although my first visit was a little awkward with learning the trix of getting the pizza from this vault, once I figured it out I have been in love with their pizza ever since! Cash only transactions. No problem- ATM onsite. Outdoor seating is limited. Inside different story. First come first serve inside. Cop a seat and enjoy the experience. Staff has always been super friendly. Southern hospitality is no stranger here. Last night, as always, I ordered a slice with sausage, mushrooms, and ground beef. Again, I was not disappointed. Small establishment on the inside. Pizza made to order. They get my stamp of approval! Whenever I'm in Savannah I make sure I stop here for a slice or two of their pizza. #tellingyouwhatithink #dpursuitisreal

Tasty, fresh pizza! Cash only!! We stopped in tonight for carry out, which I think is a good test of a pizza place. The crust was thin enough to not be overly doughy, but thick enough that it didn't turn into a cracker on our walk home. Winner in my book! If we had a fridge here I'd do a leftover-pizza-for-breakfast test, but alas that isn't possible. Hubby had a plain pizza with extra cheese and it held together well. Good standard pizza. I went with a calzone (mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, 2 fillings) and added pesto and broccoli. They put in a generous amount of each and it was so good! For dine in, at 9ish on a Thursday there was a 20-30min wait that the hostess seemed to have under control. We waited about 25 for our food, which was exactly what they estimated. It's always appreciated when wait times are accurate, regardless of the length! Also, if you leave a tip when ordering at the counter the cashier tells the pizza guys to say thank you, and they all say thank you and cheer! Pretty entertaining.

Very good NY style slices. Even better to watch the tank topped, cut off shorts'ed and flip flop'ed masses stumble by. Expect a wait if you are going during prime time. It's worth it.

Long story short...we were told this was better than Sweet Melissa's. We tried it. It was not. In fact, I think I have had much better pizza from a box. It was insanely cheap, though. And the people working were really cool. But your one job was pizza. You had one job. -_-

Very very good Pizza!!!! I am so happy we came here. I was hoping for Southern food but I will get that soon. The atmosphere is very cool& hip.... It would be fun with friends. The pizza comes out pipping hot so be careful... Enjoy!! The crust is thin so for those who like thin crust you're gonna enjoy this.

So I was in town for the Savannah Food & Wine Festival and after drinking a lot of good wines and spirits. We needed some place to soak up all that good alcohol. I had bookmarked a couple places at the beginning of the trip and Vinnie's was one of them. I am so glad we went. I am from New York so I love a good slice of pizza. We ordered our pizza to go and once we ordered it, we waited for like 15-20 minutes. Honestly it wasn't bad for a late Friday night. The pizza held up really good. We walked like 8 blocks back to our hotel in some chilly weather. It was oh so good when we got to eat it. The pepperoni had lots of flavor and the amount of cheese and sauce was perfect. The foodie in me wanted to go back and get a whole pie. The place stays crazy busy and they even show some flash by tossing the pizza dough in the air. Who doesn't like that?? I am glad we found this place and the next time I am in Savannah I will be visiting.

Nothing not to like...prices great - food is amazing. Get your slice (which is as big as a small pizza) anyway you like it. Cuts down on the fights over which toppings to add or not add because everyone doesn't like the same thing. It stays crowded which is a testament to the great food. Located in a sweet spot of Savannah ) City Market. Have your slice, grab a drink from Wet Willies, and have a seat to people watch at the park! Remember: CASH ONLY!! ATM located in the restaurant for convenience

Perfect place for day drunk grub? Yes Just grabbed two take out slices to eat in a bench outside. Large slices, good price, very sweet sauce. I don't know if New York pizza is a novelty around here or something but it was pretty normal. Granted I live above the mason Dixon line so maybe I have easier access than Savannah locals. Entertaining people working there, all were nice and the dough spinner was really good...really good. .

We first ate here 8 years ago and had really great nostalgic memories of sitting outside looking at one of the many squares with Spanish moss hanging down from the trees eating a slice, drinking a beer and people watching. So when we hit Savannah this past week for the first time since then, this was a prime spot for a mid afternoon snack. Major disappointment. Maybe it's because we ordered slices and not a pie, maybe my tastes have significantly changed over the years or maybe this place just isn't as good as it was once was. I don't know, what I do know is the slices we got were about on par with a slice of Ellio's frozen pizza.

Simply a bliss to enjoy . The.cheese pizza ordered was made perfectly. The service of the waiter was attentive.

Great casual pizza place. Very urban. Great food for a good price! I've been coming here since I was little and it's always been a good place to come with family or friends.

I went to Vinnie Van Gos Gos for dinner with my husband on 4/7/15. I am going to start with what I didn't like about the restaurant and move to what I liked (and why I am giving it a 3 star rating). My husband and I had to wait an hour for a table on Tuesday night. I was surprised how busy Vinnie Van Gos Gos was on a weekday night. They don't have a very clear waiting system and seem to sit people not based on when they arrive but rather how many seats they had at a table. In other words our party of 2 had to wait longer because they had more tables with 4 chairs. What I liked about the restaurant was the food. The pizza is served as a jumbo slice. It had a nice texture and consistency. I also got a salad and was impressed with how fresh the vegetables and greens tasted. In a nutshell once we sat down and my stomach stop grumbling from waiting as a long as we did I really liked the food. I would go back but not when I am ravenous because I get the feeling this is the kinda place you will always have to wait to be seated.

I am a pizza snob. Growing up in NJ and working in pizza places across the country, pizza is my speciality. I know it, I love it. I am a pizza curator. That being said this may be in the top five of all pizza places I have ever been. I got two slices. One with banana peppers, one with pesto. Both were amazing. Slices were big and filling. I am wanting a third slice because it's so good. Be certain to not miss this place. Amazing.

Best pizza ever and always will be! My favorite is the spinach salad, breadsticks if they have them and spoodeeodee! A must in the summer. Slices with all the tooling options and a great beer selection.

I really enjoyed the pizza. Very thin crispy.... And the atmosphere was whole in the wall.... which is always nice

Fantastic pizza. I definitely recommend the house special. Being cash only is a bit annoying though, also they close kinda early for being in the heart of the historic district.

Pizza is pizza, you can't go wrong? Yes you can, but not at this place! Crispy thin and HUGE slice! Did I say HUGE. It's bigger than my face and I got a big head! And the taste is comparable to any place in ny/boston where I come from. The price is very reasonable given the central location! And the toppings are extensive. This is the cheapest meal we spend in the city and simply delic!

I am going to be a little judgmental here because I eat A LOT of pizza. The staff was really nice and it was a great location for tourists. The pizza was just really under seasoned and the cheese didn't quite taste right. Fine for a quick bite but just wasn't my style of pizza.

My favorite pizza joint in Savannah. This is a local institution, but is also overrun with tourists in the know. Situated in City Market, you can have a great time people watching as well. BRING CASH!!!! Vinnie's is cash only. YOu can grab a slice (the size of my torso) or a whole pie. Either way you go, the pizza here is delicious. The toppings range from standard (pepperoni, black olives, etc) to fancy (sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese, etc) so you can either order one of their standard pies or create your own concoction. The dough is what makes this pizza the best. Thin, but not soggy; the outer crust is chewy and not hard at all. Limited beers and wines are available as well. Be preprared to wait because there is ALWAYS a wait. But it's worth it.

Pizza was delicious!! Nice outdoor seating in a great area. Service was awesome. Ordered 2 slices of cheese, they were gigantic!!! Pricing is cheap for good food. Dog friendly.

Had an early dinner here after arriving in Savannah. They opened at 4pm (on a Thurs) and we were one of the first customers in. It's a complete dive bar located in busy City Market off of Ellis Square. Don't expect anything fancy because this place is laid back which I like. You can seat yourself so we sat at the end of the bar. We were handed paper menus and when I asked how big the pizza slices were, I was told "as big as the menu"! I ended up going with a sweet tea (refills are free) and went with a cheese slice and added mushrooms, jalapeños, black olives and bell peppers(50 cents per topping with "yuppie" toppings for 75 cents). When the slices came out, they weren't kidding. They came out on steel plates. By the way pizza is thin crust so if you're not a fan, not sure if this place is for you! Pizza was good and hearty. Only thing I didn't care for was that most of the raw toppings were on top of the pizza and not cooked under with the cheese. Nothing terrible and earth shattering. Just a preference of mine but I still ate it! :) While we were there, we were befriended by some locals who were happy to tell us the best places to check out while in town. They were much friendlier and personable than our waitress. This place is CASH only so beware. If you forget, there is an ATM machine that is conveniently next to the front door! Overall, a cool place to have some pizza and hang out but nothing completely out of the ordinary...just BIG slices of pizza! ;)

FIRST: TO REPEAT, CASH ONLY. If you read my reviews, you'll know I'm no stranger to pizza. This is some pretty solid pizza. The wait was not too bad for a Friday night, and I know it's noted everywhere, but hey, cash only. You can tell the staff is most likely comprised of SCAD students, it's a cool little place with beer on tap and some wine, plus a spoodie-o-dee - wine with orange soda and sprite (if you don't get it, please listen to Aquemini). The pizza was really good and a medium pie was way too much food for my wife and I. The service was good, especially considering we sat outside in the city market area and it was FULL of people. The restaurant is dog friendly (patio), and if you're staying near by in a hotel, they'll bike-deliver your pizza. I'd definitely repeat again if I'm in town, but I'll probably stick to ordering a slice (or two).

Be aware they only accept cash. There is, however, an ATM located inside the building. We were seated right away and had a very good waitress. They do not serve unsweetened iced tea nor do they have Coke Zero. Be prepared for that. My husband and I shared a calzone and there was plenty for both of us. Good meal!

Great pizza and atmosphere. Order by the slice or the whole pie. It's all outdoor seating so young be able to hear the live music.

A friend and I took a birthday trip to traipse around Savannah, and this was our first destination. Especially after the two and a half hour drive. Unfortunately, they don't open until 4. A late lunch for us. But we browsed the shops on the streets, then at 4 on the dot, we were back at Vinnies. Us and five other tables. This place is popular. But the flood of people doesn't hinder the great service, nor does it hinder ticket times. Our pizza came out pretty quick. Their portions are huge and the pizza is delish. Ours was just a liiiiittle undercooked in the center- exactly how I like it. We ordered a medium 3 topping pizza and two drinks for under 20 bucks. It was definitely worth the wait, and the quirky local hospitality makes it worth coming back.

I do not know what the rave is about. When I was in Savannah, the trolley driver promoted it and I overheard someone say that is their favorite pizza restaurant. The pizza was very average. Nothing memorable at all. Service was good.

  • Sascha G.

Coming here for years and I was recommending it tour our German tour groups! It's good, but not great anymore! Looks like they don't care as much anymore and are cutting corners!!! I guess it doesn't matter since tourists come and go!! Reconsidering my positive recommendations to our groups from great to just average!!!!

  • Walter K.

Locals love this place, but really, it's just okay. If necessary, grab a slice and a beer to go. Otherwise, keep searching for a better option. Bottom line: It's pizza, it's beer. How bad could it be?

    (3)
  • Olivia P.

Pretty awesome pizza place, my boyfriend and I shared a medium New York style pizza with spicy sausage. It was more then enough for two people! Only complaints are that we were super cramped our table was only big enough for our pizza and drinks, we were practically earring off the table, and they only accept cash, oh and for you people that like you're drinks with lemon...they are citrus free. Other then that and awesome must go to pizza place while in Savannah!

  • Heather D.

You will be greeted by the undead at the door. Then once your name is called she'll stare at you like you're bothering her. If you continue beyond this point be prepared for undercooked pizza that has no flavor what so ever.

  • Jaycie H.

I can't believe I haven't been here until now! This is a little hole-in-the wall place in city market. This probably isn't the place for a romantic dinner or anything but they sure know pizza. I got a huge slice of pepperoni for $3.21! And when I say huge I mean falling off the plate huge. I especially liked the thin crust. I only had to wait about 5 minutes to get my food too. Their seating is mostly outdoor but they also have some tables and a bar inside. This is a cash only restaurant but there's an ATM on site. I think this place would be worth your time for some delish pizza!

Pizza and salad were delicious. I thought prices were a bit high for what you get, but for a great atmosphere a dining experience it was worth it.

  • David B.

Great pizza and atmosphere on Friday night! Got here with my wife and we only had to wait about 20 minutes. Go next door to the candy shop and get a praline taster to hold you over. Slices are big enough to wrap around your entire head for $2.50 plus a nominal charge for toppings. Awesome!!!

I've been on a pizza quest for the last month and it's lead me all over downtown Savannah. After trying out several different places on different occasions and times I have declare that Vinnie's is the best and most consistent of them all. They never deviate or compromise their ingredients or recipes. That says a lot...

  • Cat S.

Yes, Yes, Yes! Late night slices that are the size of your head for about $3 - YES! take out available and wait will be about 10-15min. worth it. If you are out late, definitely go by here for a pie! **CASH ONLY**

Having lived in the NY area for over 25 years, this is not NY style pizza. We were suckered into thinking this would be a good pizza spot. We ordered a large pie and when it arrived, I knew immediately that it was not going to bring back memories of NY pizza. First, the dough was way too thick and chewy. We peeled back the cheese and the dough was undercooked. It was not greasy at all which is the trademark of a real NY slice. When you fold a NY slice, the grease should trickle down to your plate. Just because its burned on the bottom doesn't mean its NY style. The reason they received an extra star is the price, $12.50 for a large pie is cheap. This place is cash only so leave the plastic in your wallet. If you crave real NY style pizza, book a flight to NYC!!!

  • Ali H.

Don't be off-put by the strange looking, "artsy" locals with piercings and tattoos galore, or by the open kitchen that looks disorderly and, well, crazy. The tiny tables and lack of class is nothing to worry about here. The pizza is amazingly good!! Even a basic pepperoni slice is enormous and perfectly cooked. Our waitress was very friendly despite it being a very busy night. We ordered two pizzas and it easily fed 5 people! It was not too greasy but plenty cheesy and ooey-gooey with a TRUE New York style crust. It's excellent folded up like a taco and eaten messily. We were even able to sit outdoors thanks to the heaters in the winter and watch the streets and passersby while we ate. It's a fun, local joint and is a great place to go when you want to get away from the countless tourist traps and get some good, affordable food! I'd stop by again for sure when traveling through!

  • Verónica O.

I went to this place for the reviews I saw on Yelp. Honestly it was ok but i didn't found anything special about the place or pizza flavor. It's a normal pizza taste....I think is a bit overrated it was just Ok.

  • Rick D.

I want sooooooooo Bad to give them a 5 star rating, BUT THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARD! that is a problem in the 21st century yes their prices are SLIGHTLY cheaper I am assuming because of the no credit credit card. But it will cost you more $3 for the withdrawl and $3 from your bank so if you do not have the bank that refunds ATM fees your looking at adding on $6 to the price of the pizza. Almost did not mind the additional cost the pizza is very good if you are from Jax not quite as good as Moon River but close. LOL We will go back and probably not keep the CASH issue against them but it is a total issue in the 21st Century not to accept credit cards. Charge a fee for credit cards per Dodd Frank it is allowed!

Delicious, reasonably-priced pizza with outside seating. It's a local favorite for a reason. The spinach salad is great too!

  • Lisa S.

I've been to Vinny's several times now. Yes the pizza is good, but the lack of bare minimum dining facilities has just caused me to not want to eat there. The tables are tiny and wobbly, aluminum plates are old and scratched up. I think I'd rather order to go and go eat at my hotel by the pool.

    (4)
  • Jamie L.

Seriously some of the best pizza! Perfect location downtown with outside seating. It's very divey and I love it. The pizza really doesn't need anything added, but they have spices and extras at the table to personalize your slice. I eat here every time I visit. Love this place. NomNom.

Prices were great, service was great, food was awesome! Bring cash, they don't take credit cards.

    (5)
  • Emily V.

Awesome, cheap pizza. Probably the cheapest meal you can get in this area of Savannah - only $12.95 for an 18 inch cheese pizza! $2 for each additional topping. The pizza was very good though if I had one compaint, it had a little too much sauce. Otherwise great value and if I lived around the block I would probably order from here a lot (but bring cash to pay!).

    (5)
  • Sara R.

Love there pizza, get it all the time When we go we order more than we will eat to have left over. It re-heats really well in the oven or the microwave. Best pizza in town. Just remember to bring cash they don't take plastic.

  • Craig T.

Stopped by for a late night slice or two. Damn was I impressed! They were pretty busy but my to-go slices came pretty quick and damn were they large and delicious. If you are nearby and want a great slice or a whole pie this is the place to come.

Some of the best New York Style Pizza I've had! Gotta go-go to Vinnie's! Great crispy crust and perfect layering of flavors. Awesome outdoor seating, Market ambience and friendly, energized staff. Huge slices and great prices. Bring paper money.

A fun abs affordable little pizza joint in city market square. Feels like a savannah classic. It has good pizza by the slice or pie.

  • Stormy R.

It was ok. I went on a date here several years ago with an army boy, I remember the pizza tasting better back then. This time we got slices to go, the ordering space was super cramped and hot. When we got the pizza it was hot and the slice was huge but it didn't really taste all that great and they were super stingy with the pepperoni.

    (3)
  • Anthony L.

Awesome pie - reminded me of NYC. Suggest ordering the slice well done. Will definitely be back. P.s. Cash only policy needs to be revisited by owners!

  • Nicole W.

What I love about these pizzas is that they are thin and crunchy! oh and the fact that 1 slice of cheese is for 2.50! Great place for a quick light dinner.

    (4)
  • Jordan M.

Great pizza and good atmosphere. The food was exactly what I expected and they gave generous portions. We got a large pizza which was way more than enough for 4 people. It was served warm and crisp. We sat outside and enjoyed the scenery. It was a great place to people watch but the best people to people watch were actually the staff. The entire place definitely had a quirk to it and the staff were all very... Unique? The kitchen closed early due to "technical difficulties" which I thought was really strange. But our pizza was one of the lasts to come out so I can't really complain. Overall it was a great experience. I would say here again.

    (4)
  • Stephanie N.

It's as close to New York style pizza as you're going to find around here. Because of how much my mom obsessively talks about this pizza, I went into this with very high expectations. The yelp reviews confirmed that this was probably the best pizza in Savannah. I ordered a large with pesto sauce. It's very very good and doesn't have a weird taste or after taste that a lot of chain restaurants have. It's all made from scratch and you can tell you have received a quality pizza. However, for some reason, it has made the roof of my mouth hurt in the same way that captain crunch does. I no longer buy captain crunch because of that but I'm torn on whether to write this pizza off or not. :(

  • David B.

Great pizza! Close to NY style but doesn't advertise as NY style. The crust is a bit thicker than NY style but the taste really reminded me of Famous Rays. Great, friendly service. They said that a few pies for a party of 10 would be ready in 20 minutes. Even though it was really busy, our order was ready in 10! This is my Savannah pizza spot from now on.

  • Alyssa B.

For all the hype surrounding this place, it's worth the trip. Phenomenal pizza with fresh ingredients and an unbeatable crust. If you're in the area, stand in line and take part in this favorite of the locals.

  • Eric H.

Not for snobs or couples looking for a quiet romantic dinner in a country club setting. That being said, the atmosphere is truly "unique" and the pizza is out of this world crazy good (and affordable).

    (5)
  • Kyle T.

Good local pizza joint walking distance from Historic District hotels. The pizza was good. Great if you love thinner crust pizza. I just got 2 cheese slices. I don't like reviewing places unless I get a fresh pie but oh well.

  • Rose F.

Ok. Yum! Food is 5 stars for sure... give it 4 only bcuz it's a really casual place and i usually don't give 5 stars too easily. BUT the pizza is fantastic and the service was quite good as well. We split a slice between us for a lite dinner and it was enough. Cooked perfect! We are MAJOR pizza snobs & we loved it! Next time in Savannah we will be back!

  • Chris C.

This is a great place to get a good slice of pizza in the middle of downtown. The prices are really cheap. The pizza is great. The only complaint I have is that they only take cash. I never carry cash so that is a huge inconvenience for me.

    (4)
  • Carol L.

Great atmosphere. Unusual in that cash only. Food is great, hot, and fast. Slice is very large and prices are very low. Outside tables are small but just right for two. A great stop on an evening walk in downtown market.

I hate pizza in the south. I really do. So it is with a little hesitation that I took my wife's advice and went down to the market to get some take out pizza from here. I am a lover of good New York style pizza and this is what the reviews claimed Vinnie had. My sister also highly recommended the place. So, why not? I went in to order and right away noticed how much of a dive the place was. I mean a real dive. I don't mean that in a bad way. This place reminds me of some of the bars I use to go into in my youth. You know, the ones down in the East Village back in the late 80s/ early 90s. The metal and biker bars, down there, looked like the inside of this place. More welcoming to me was the fact that they were playing music that I grew up with. They even had bumper stickers that looked like they were stolen from CBGB's or one of the small metal places from that era. The people working here looked the part as well. Metal shirts, tats, piercings, etc. So, I felt maybe a little worried about the quality of pizza I was about to have. But comfortable with being here even if I looked more like a yuppie family guy at this point in my life. So, pizza was done in about 15 minutes and I took it back to the hotel. First impression was that it passes the looks test. It looks New York style. After a few bites, it got gobbled up. That is how good it was. There was char on the bottom just like a proper NY style. The sauce was not too sugary with a that definitive slight bitterness you should have with a proper NY sauce. It was good. Really good. Probably the best pizza I have had south of Virginia. So I like this place. I can't speak on the wait staff as I got take out. But pizza wise, it's all good.

The pizza was good but the service was horrible. The hostess was in a mood and our waitress was too. We were sitting outside and saw some friends walk in to eat so we started talking and then decided to pull our table together. And the waitress was very unhappy and told us she would not be able to spkit the check cause her computer couldnt handle it. REALLY?!?

  • Russ H.

Pizza served by hipsters, perfectly. Pizza is New York style and is flawless. Beer selection is great for a small place. Prices are reasonable. Expect a long wait during busy times, but that's only because it's worth it.

  • The Food L.

I stopped by this evening and through of getting some pizza. I seriously underestimated the popularity of the place. I ordered several individual pieces to avoid the line - its much faster to get slices. Pizza was great and everyone works in that place.

  • Kristin N.

We started off with Vinnie Van Go-Go's cheese sticks. These babies were good, I had to hold myself from continuing to eat them all because I knew I wouldn't make it to the pizza if I kept eating them. We built our own pizza with pepperoni, ham, canadian bacon and italian sausage. This pizza was just as delicious as it smelled. The tables were a bit small so with our large pizza and breadsticks on the table there was hardly any room for our plates. This is probably my only complaint, but other than that it was great. And please note: CASH only

  • Rebecca K.

Best pizza in Savannah! I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The beer selection was okay, but the pizza and the crust were soooo gooood. I got one slice with banana pepper and mushroom and another with broccoli and artichoke...both awesome.

  • Elisabeth M.

Insanely delicious pizza. I love the freedom of adding your own toppings. We put together a sausage, spinach, feta, and sundried tomato combination that was really delicious. Ordered a large, which was HUGE and fed us for two meals. Really reasonably priced. Love the location. It's great for people-watching! We will definitely be back for more!

There is nothing fancy about vinnies. And that's ok. It doesn't need it. Its pizza speaks for itself. Solid 4 on the yelp scale of 1-5. Great pizza, good beer prices and eclectic crew. Could only be made better if they had ranch dressing and took more than just cash.

  • Jen R.

Ask most people from the NJ/NY area - It's difficult to find a pizza anywhere else in the U.S. that meets our expectations. My partner in crime and I have traveled all over, and we both agree that this pizza is as close as we've ever found - take the sugar out of the sauce and we'd feel like we're home. The place is small and gets busy - we went by on a Tuesday evening and it was slammed. We stopped by the next day around the time that they opened and had no problem sliding onto a bar stool for a slice of pie and a beer.

    (4)
  • Tyler T.

Great little spot! The pizza is great! The crust could use a little flavor, but overall the toppings were worth the money. The beer selection was limited at this time due to their cooler going out, but the waitress was nice and asked if I'd like to sample anything. I would rate it 5 stars if it wasn't so loud with very little seating. Definitely check it out!

Great New York Style Pizza. Dough was fresh. Pieces were huge. Prices were very reasonable. Good selection of draft beers to wash it down. Will visit on our next trip to Savannah for certain.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. It got such high ratings but we didn't enjoy the pizza or salad. The service was nice and friendly and the price was inexpensive, but the food wasn't worth the long wait when there are so many other options are available.

We had just arrived in Savannah, parked the car and asked a local where to go for lunch. They suggested Vinnie Van Go-Go's and we decided to give it a go-go (see what I did there, lol). We had our 1 and 3 year olds with us and had to leave our double stroller outside due to space constraints inside the restaurant. It is located on a corner in the Market with many art galleries and shops surrounding it. The place itself is very old (duh, as with anyplace there in Savannah ;-) and small, with a few parts of uneven floor. To me, that just adds to the charm. So the Hostess told us she would watch our stroller while we dined and she said she has never seen any problems with that type of thing in the past. We felt okay leaving it outside and it was fine. We sat at our table, a little round table in the back of the restaurant next to a window. Quaint would be an accurate description. As we sat down our server got our drink order and was super friendly. We gave her our food order at the same time, because our boys were hungry. Be advised, like others mentioned, it is cash only, but they have an ATM at the front of the restaurant. There is limited seating inside, but there is plenty of seating around the bar and outside along the side of the restaurant. When our server brought our pizza slices, we were amazed how big they were! Each slice was about the size of the menu! (Like an 8 1/2x 11 sheet of paper!). The slices are very thin 'New York Style' crust and the sauce is very fresh, it tasted homemade. You can customize your slices, which we, as a family of 4, really appreciated. My Husband got banana peppers, sausage and pepperoni, I got pepperoni and my boys just got cheese. All of us enjoyed every last morsel on our plates! Our server was attentive to the fact our boys couldn't just eat the slices on their own, and had the cook cut the slices into little bite size cuts for them, it was incredibly sweet and very thoughtful. Saved us a lot of time cutting the pizza up ourselves. Our tab came to a little over $12! You can't beat that for a family of 4 to eat, feel stuffed and be happy. I also got a diet coke. With tip, our meal was less than $20, pretty good. :-) I would recommend this to anyone in the mood for a fun, cozy atmosphere with delicious pizza.

I ordered a slice of cheese pizza to enjoy with my drink from Wet Willies (you are allowed to take alcoholic beverages to go in the Historic District!). The slice of pizza was larger than my head! I am glad the locals suggested I stop here for a bite because it was delicious! It is CASH ONLY!

I had a Calzone with pepperoni and jalapenos and it was extremely good. Make sure you bring cash if not there is a ATM inside with $2 fee. The only problem I had with this place is when I was waiting for check I noticed the guy that was making pizza scratching his hair at the same time... so one person might have got hair in there pizza. Also the tables are a bit small.

We stumbled across this place while in downtown Savannah, thanks to yelp for showing the good reviews. so we decided to check it out. Some of the best pizza I have ever had... and it's pretty cheap too.

Super yummy pizza. Nothing groundbreaking, but a very solid pie. Not sure if it's worth a special visit on its own, but if you're in the City Market area, VVGG is hard to beat for a nice slice of pizza.

We have often driven off I-95 on our way to/from Florida just to pick up a pizza from here. Very delicious!

Strolling through the Streets of Savannah, we stumbled upon Vinnie Van Go-Go's. Everyone seemed to be lining up to eat there and with a nephew that is addicted to pizza and at 5 years old could probably eat an entire pie himself, we decided to have dinner there. Vinnie Van Go-Go's is located in City Market, a popular area in Savannah to come to eat, drink, shop and people watch. Around the area there is a lot going so despite the hotness (in the summer) and the bugs, I recommend eating outside to take it all in. The pizza they serve is thin and crispy "Neapolitan" style pizza (I call it New York style) that is fresh and tastes good! They have they usual toppings but what you really need to know is that it is cash only so hit up the ATM first if you are not the type to have cash on hand.

The Pizza is crispy and delicious here. The slices are enormous, about twice the size of a normal slice. They do a booming business being right at the City Market. I just got a slice to go, there does not seem to be any reason to stay inside the building here.

I've lived in savannah for almost 4 years now, and somehow I've never actually gone here until now. I stopped in to grab a quick slice today, and besides having to wait about 5-10 minutes for it was thrilled with the experience. The slice was bigger than my face! And it tasted amazing! This is by far the best pizza I've had in a long time, and without a doubt the best pizza in savannah!

Love coming here the pesto slices are so amazing and the staff is a pretty cool crowd a large pie for 14 dollars have regular half pesto is great to me!

Love love love this place!! I've been here several times and make it a point to bring visitors here as well. By far the best pizza in Savannah. The staff is friendly and attentive. Don't come here expecting NY pizza because there is nothing like it but it's definitely a great tasting enjoyable pizza!

Cash Only So if you order at the register, you can't get a table, you have to get it to go. The hostess will not tell you this, especially if its around 11 pm. She'll just assumes you're drunk and want to eat your food while you walk home. Just because I look drunk does not mean I'm drunk, okay?? So we order, pay, and then try to get a table and everyone is all NO NO you can't sit down. We had to talk some sense into the manager and he was like, give them a seat! So we got to sit but it was all kind of annoying at that point. The pizza is alright. Not as greasy as your typical late night options, so I'll accept the hype. I would just appreciate nice service, regardless of what time of day I'm coming in, 'na mean?

It may be a pizzeria in the south but they def know how to make a great NY Style Pizza!! Also don't be fooled by the tattoos and apparel, The staff is courteous and attentive. My wife and I had a great experience and the food was delicious!!!

  • John R.

The pizza was a little doughy for my tastes but otherwise very good and cooked well too. Service is really outstanding and the location is fun for watching the interesting sites as you are sitting outside for a meal. Cash only is a bit of a bummer but the prices are friendly enough where you actually do not mind this minor inconvenience.

Excellent Pizza!! Vinnie Van Go-Go's is open late, cheap, & delicious. The only downside is that they are cash only. On a side note, if you have never been to Savannah...Stop what you are doing immediately & start planning a trip. I love Savannah. It is a beautiful city. The squares are amazing. I could walk around the city all day. It is full of history, antique shops, & cool people.

  • Eri N.

This place is amazing. The pizza is so good! They make it fresh by the slice and have a variety of toppings (well beyond Dominos garbage). They have a primo location in City Market. The people watching is excellent. The only negative thing I could possibly say is they are cash only, but it's worth the trip to the atm.

  • Samantha P.

This place is UNREAL. I made sure to get there early so I could make sure to get a table. We sat inside and soaked up the AC. Ordered a medium pizza and it was big for two people. We got sun dried tomatoes and banana peppers. It was ready pretty quickly and was so delicious. I stuffed myself and ate three pieces. Well worth the discomfort of over eating. The man at the table next to ours ordered two slices of pepperoni and they were HUGE! I didn't stick around long enough to see if he ate it all. I would def. recommend this place. I will return every time I come to Savannah. It's really that good.

  • Liz P.

NY style pizza, we ordered a medium and it was huge, half mushroom and half onion. They also have specialty pizzas like pesto ones and white pizzas. Their beer/wine list looked like a good deal too. Pizza was $10 + $1.50 for the 1 topping, if you get a slice it's $2.50 +. 50 per topping... And those looked HUGE. Kind of a hipster atmosphere, good place overall and like 1 block from our hotel (Inn at Ellis Square) which was great.

    (5)
  • Jonna C.

We were able to walk right in and sit at the bar despite a long wait for a table. And the slice was huge! But the toppings were under cooked (mushrooms were practically raw) and there was hardly any cheese. Not a best slice, but not a worst And overpriced, but everything in that area is -- so not grossly overpriced

    (3)
  • David C.

Believe the hype! Had two calzones (artichoke, spicy sausage, and extra mozzarella) brought to our hotel via delivery from Vinnie's and they were awesome! Perfect ratio of cheese to toppings inside and an amazing crust that still makes my mouth water. The Spinach Salad with Feta was also good--lots of fresh veggies (mushrooms, onions, green pepper) with a good olive oil vinaigrette to top it with. Definitely worth ordering from again the next time we're in Savannah. And as mentioned by other reviewers, it is CASH ONLY.

REALLY GOOD PIZZA! Chewy but crispy crust. Great sauce, fun place. Get aa seat on the side patio near the plaza for people watching. Definitely worth going to.

Great pizza. Crowded. Be ready to wait 15-20 minutes. Made fresh right in front of you!

  • Pete A.

Every time in Savannah, I have to stop by Vinnie's for a slice or two. Love the pizza, I always like to try different toppings. One hint, get your beer from a bottle or can, I have had some issues with the tap beer there (maybe skunked lines?). Cash only, but they have an ATM inside so it's really no big deal. There is usually a pretty long wait, but if there are just 1 or 2 of you, go inside and sit at the bar. It is hot in there, but you get to watch the pizza get made and tend to get your food a little quicker.

  • Jesse V.

Grabbed a couple slices here. DUDE, most every place claims to do New York style - This place is one of the few outta NYC that gets the job done right! Perfect thin and crispy crust and balance of cheese and sauce are spot on. GO-GO to Vinnie Van's ASAP. Bring Cash, no Plastic here Fool!

    (5)
  • Daron S.

This place was awesome! The missing star is because seating was a little tight, and it is cash only. As for the important part, the food, it was delicious! Pie was huge, ingredients tasted very fresh, and it was not overly priced. I will definitely come back again.

Oh My God, this is officially my #1 favorite pizza place. Too bad (or maybe for the good) this place is so far from home. Initially me and my boyfriend were tempted to get a whole pizza but then we decided to go with slices since we wanted different things and because our server said it was pretty big. It was a good decision. This is true NY style. The pizza slice was longer than a foot and almost a foot wide. Even after tearing it down the middle I still had to fold it to be able to eat. The ingredients were fresh, the cheese was delicious and stringy and the crust was perfect. Also, this is one of the few places that has dried oregano available for seasoning. Writing about it here almost makes me want to get a slice right now. Did I mention this place is 200-odd miles away from home? But hey, the weekend is coming up... PS: Make sure you have cash, they don't take cards.

  • Hemang D.

A massive disappointment. Someone had made a strong recommendation to us to check out this place. We ordered a 18-inch pie and the crust was not evenly cooked across the board. The edges were extremely doughy. We sent it back for a re-heat, but it seems that their process of cooking or reheating does not involve rotating the pie. I believe there are other pizza places that are significantly better than this place. On the plus side, the lady serving us was nice and the place does have cheap beer pitchers.

Yelp, you really let me down tonight. Looking for a delicious slice of pizza and thought this was the spot. Even walked past two other pizza places but instead chose here. What a let down. I love thin crust pizza but this pizza took it to a whole other level. Mediocre toppings and barely there cheese. Emo servers. No thanks.

Best pizza in savannah period!!!! Huge and cheap slices But there is no bacon as a topping and its cash only

    (5)
  • E C.

Definitely not NYC quality pizza. The sauce on the pizza was not good. Although if you want an inexpensive meal and large pizza slices, this is the place. Don't expect quick service. We came around 2pm, place was busy but we agreed to sit at the bar and was seated fairly quickly. It took awhile for the busy servers to take our order, and even longer for the pizza to arrive. Husband ordered his slices well done, and they did not come that way. At least they kept refilling our sweet tea. Servers seemed a little grumpy, but not rude. Maybe it was the heat.

  • Janene H.

Awesome pizza, as the long waits attest. We checked on a table and were told over an hour. Looking around us at the perfect weather and picturesque surroundings we wondered why anyone would not want to take their pizza to go? This is what we decided as we stepped into the tight, hot restaurant and placed our order. We still had to wait for 15 minutes but as we did we put down some Fat Tires and watched the pizza makers spin dough that was enormous! Once we got our pizza it was delicious. The crust had a wonderful flavor and the slices were HUGE! The topping were fresh and the pizza cooked perfectly. Service was just OK, they seemed rushed. But of course, they were slammed! I love that you can even take your beer to go. You aren't missing anything by not eating in. Get your pizza and beer to go and find one of the beautiful squares to have a picnic. This will be a regular stop when we're in Savannah.

  • Andy D.

I gotta say that I have no clue what the hype is about this place. My wife compared it to Hungry Howie's and she was dead on. We waited for half an hour for cardboard pizza with so much garlic that it had the signatures fish taste. We will not be frequenting Vinnie's ever. Ever.

Excellent Ricotta and Mushroom Pizza. Delivered to World of Beer as they don't serve food. Cash only.

This has been a savannah staple as long as I can remember. Good pizza, fresh ingredients, simple menu, good prices. Huge wait during peak hours, but that's to be expected in the middle of tourist central. Laid back, friendly staff

  • Sam M.

From the minute we saw this place we knew that we had to try it. There were tons of people gathered outside and it was that type of atmosphere that just screamed good food. The pizza was absolutely delightful. I had a pesto pizza with hamburger pieces on top. This was the single slice which was about as big as the table itself. The crust was crunchy, the pesto was salty and light, and the rest was perfect as well. Maybe a bit greasy but maybe that added to the enjoyment. Awesome pizza, would return with out a doubt.

Best slice in Savannah (Mimi's can sometimes come close). Just remember to bring cash because the atm only works half the time.

Stop #2 of my New Years Day drinking debacle. After having a few sips over a Wild Wings me and my friends stumbled down to Vinnie's. We were able to squeeze at the bar area near the back of the restaurant. The pizza was good but what made the place to me were the interesting people we ended talking to and the friendly staff. And they had cheap PBR. Overall this place is pretty cool with some good pizza.

  • Murray M.

What can I say? This no frills dive is one of my favorites. The pizza is super cheap and tasty, and you can buy by the slice. Beers are cheap, too. Cash only.

    (5)
  • Unknown P.

Food was decent and atmosphere was great but the hostess and up front staff was the worst. We waited at least 15 minutes and during for that time 4 tables opened up. Hostess would not give us a 4 person table because there was only 2 of us. Waited longer while others were seated and we're only seated ourselves after we complained. Very rude.

This place takes me back to New York City. The wonderful thin crust with A well-balanced marinara sauce. they don't skimp on the toppings and it is all i want in a slice.

We were looking for a spot that had good pizza, right on savanah strip we heard a lot of good things about this place so we had to try it. Parking was pretty difficult and they only took cash, luckily they had an ATM machine inside. The prices were reasonable and the beer was cold, pretty packed so if you don't mind the wait it is a great place for pizza

    (5)
  • Peter P.

THE place to go in Savannah for pizza. They do NY-style and it is super cheap. Instead of buying by the slice, just get a whole pizza and take the leftovers home! Prepare to wait for a table outside because this place is BUSY. It is located on the City Market strip, so there are a lot of shoppers who duck in for a bite. If you're lucky, you can snag a couple seats at the bar in the backroom. From there you can see the stacks and stacks of cassette tapes and the old tape deck they use to set the mood. Also remember to bring cash as they do not take credit cards.

    (3)
  • Chris S.

Pizza was huge and delicious. Feed 4 people for under $30 with beer included and tip. So it's pretty cheap. Wait time for a table was a little longer than I would have liked but understandable considering it's a small joint and we went on a Friday night. I would Definitely go back.

    (4)
  • Morgan H.

I've experienced much better pizza than Vinnie Van Go-Go's. It was the top rated pizza joint in the area and recommended by others in City Market. So, we decided to stop. The place is really a hole in the wall in kind of a cool way. We sat outside and watched the people in the market. We ended up ordering three slices. You know when a pizza place puts fresh cheese on a not fresh made pizza? I hate that. I just doesn't melt the same. Long story short, there was nothing impressive about the pizza. Must be a locals attraction.

    (2)
  • Danielle D.

Not sure how anyone can compare this to New York style pizza- not even remotely close. The best comparison I can come up with is Hungry Howies, and even that is better because the buffet there is filled with pure filth including desert pizza that is just so delicious. The pizza is so doughy. Not think crust at all. We ordered it crispy and good thing we did. The other pizzas coming out looked raw. This jersey girl who is a fl resident knows pizza, and this place is NOT it. Was so disappointed because all the reviews and the smell, made me believe otherwise. True southern pizza. Stick to the grits.

    (2)
  • Sarah B.

Pizza is good and cheap. The spinach salad is fresh. It's really hot & humid in summer, seating is outdoors...but a great spot to people watch and they refill drinks on the regular.

    (4)
  • Robert T.

I love their pizza. I enjoy taking my family there for lunch and my daughters always enjoy the food. Vinnie's does not take credit cards, so be sure to bring cash. It is located in City Market, so it can be loud and busy.

  • J C.

I thoroughly enjoyed this place. At first when I looked at the menu, I was a little confused as it didn't list any of the usual suspects such as Pepperoni, Supreme, Hawaiian, Meatlover, etc. instead it only has names of toppings. Yeah, here you order a slice and name the toppings you want. New York style thin crusted basic cheese was $2.50 a slice and additional topping was $0.50. California Pizza Kitchen should bow till its nose touches the ground. Pizzas are so good!! What an awesome place. I was also blown away by the fact that it served Birra Morreti. It's a crisp and light Italian beer that I've been missing since my days in SF Bay Area in early 90's. WARNING: Cash ONLY!!

  • Garrett O.

Amazing NYC style pizza, plus they deliver! But its cash only i was staying in a hotel literally next to your pizza but we decided to go with vinnie van go-gos... Best choice ever! One of the best pizza I've ever had! Definitely recommend this if you are staying in savanna!

I love this place. I eat here every time I visit Savannah. Chill atmosphere, cash only, sometimes there's a wait but it's definitely worth it.

  • Kiara E.

This place has some seriously GOOD pizza. Be careful though... they sell huge slices of pizza starting off at $2.50 and you can choose your own toppings. Its seriously easy to get carried away being that the toppings are $0.25-$0.75 each. With that being said, its totally worth it. The service is very friendly. The crust and the pesto sauce is amazing. One slice will get you satisfied. Two slices will get you stuffed. Do not forget to carry cash to this place. They do not accept credit cards. Not to worry though. There is a ATM around the corner. I recommend this place to the thin crust pizza lover.

    (4)
  • Sergio C.

Great size portions. The staff was friendly, except for the hostess. She was a bit cold and borderlining on rude. It was as if love were getting pushed to the borderline. The pizza was good, but not super memorable or breathtaking. The slices were large and it was reasonably priced. The place is cash only, so have dem dollas.

    (3)
  • Christopher G.

The interesting thing about this place is that they serve "New York Style" pizza but I don't think that the owners, cooks or even customers who rave about it have ever actually been to New York to have a comparison. It was just ok. The place was absolutely jammed and I found a place at the bar. And geez, no credit cards?? The service left a lot to be desired. Absolutely baffled as to why this place is considered so great.

    (2)
  • Steve T.

Probably the best slice of pizza I've ever had. Each slice starts out at $2.50 a piece and you had any topping you want. The crust is freaking awesome. I had a nice salad to go with the slice and it was perfect. And you can't beat the prices. The pizza was so good it even made my Bud Light taste good!!! The wait staff were professional and spot on. Can't wait to go again!

  • Brooke K.

I never would have known about this place if it weren't for a guy in our hotel who got onto the elevator with a Vinnie Van Go-Go's pizza. Since it was only a few blocks from our hotel we decided to try it out. Thanks to all of the yelp reviews I knew about the cash only policy and came prepared. I got a slice with hamburger and black olives, my husband got one with pepperoni and extra cheese. The slices definitely look impressive. I agree with the other reviews that the pizza was way too dry. I don't even know what the sauce tasted like. My husband liked his pizza much more than I liked mine, though he was disappointed that they skimped on the pepperoni. This was certainly the cheapest meal we got in Savannah. I would go again since it was so close to our hotel and is a really cheap dinner, but I definitely would not seek this place out and would not return if it were any further than a few blocks.

After a completely disappointing meal at Café at City Market my friend and I were still craving pizza. Stopped in for dinner (they don't open until 4:00pm). This place is very straight forward. They have pizza and beer. That's it. Nothing fancy but what you get for what you pay for is pretty darn good. THEY DO NOT SERVE RANCH with their pizza so BYOR (bring your own ranch). I think I paid $20 for a medium pizza and two beers. Not bad! Service is no nonsense. Don't have too high of expectations from this place and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I really liked to open air seating. If you order to-go be prepared to stand and wait for your pizza; they do not allow to-go customers to wait in the dining area.

    (4)
  • Jim J.

Great pizza. The best part is probably the price. For an area like the market (where everything is overpriced) you can come here with friends and even getting pitchers of beer it's harder to spend more than $10.

    (4)
  • Claude R.

One of the best pizza"s I've had in a long time. Thin crispy crust with good chew and a mild char. Flavorful sauce and light cheese. I really would have liked more cheese. Spinach salad is ok. Nothing too exciting. Spend your money on more pizza!!! Defiantly a great place for a cheap lunch or at the end of a night drinking.

  • John C.

Might be great pizza if you can get the stinky hippy at the front to seat you. Take your business elsewhere! They need hair nets for her underarms. I hope the hygiene of the rest of the staff is better!

  • Laura E.

You must eat here if you're visiting Savannah. As a local, I came here as often as I could. Sit at the bar if your party is small - there's usually an open seat and you get to skip the whole waiting thing. My go-to order at Vinnies is a slice of pizza with spicy italian sausage and black olives. Just spicy enough, and plenty of flavor, on a crispy chewy pizza crust that couldn't be more perfectly baked. Their spinach salad with generous helping of feta and other toppings is also really great. Bring your cash or use the ATM right there or across the road. Friday is the only weekday they do lunch. They're open late almost every night of the week, but if you hit them around 7 or 8pm on a weekend you're guaranteed there'll be a decent wait.

    (5)
  • Kathy S.

I was there on December 27th. They were slammed with tourists. You can get good pizza there by the slice which is why I went with a 9- and 17-year old. We finally had to give up any hopes of getting a table and get take out. We ate it in the small park next door. It tasted just as good but it would have been nicer to sit at one of their tables. Good value.

  • Heather J.

As a self proclaimed pizza expert (I've been told its unhealthy to love pizza as much as I do) Vinnie's is the best! Large pizzas with the sauce and cheese in perfect harmony. It's always my second stop in Savannah (Zunzis is first)! Expect a wait, especially on evenings during the weekend, but that's to be said about most places! Don't forget your cash -- CASH ONLY!

    (5)
  • Steven C.

CASH ONLY... The Pizza here is great, it's Awesome, it's exactly what you would want from a local pizza shop. The one star rating is for their "Cash Only" policy. This concept is a poor attempt of portraying an Old-School attitude by being an anti - conformist. The ATM, which is conveniently located inside the pizza joint, IS OWNED BY Viniie Van Go Go!!! So now they can get an extra $2.00 by charging you ATM fees and sweeping overall profits under the rug and pay less taxes. Hypocrisy at its finest my friend.

  • Todd C.

A great spot for lunch at City Market sitting outside on a nice day. They even offer customized pizza by the slice but our party of 4 was very happy sharing a large pizza which had 8 "healthy" slices. Tip: their spinach salad is very tasty. Reminder: cash only.

  • Becca R.

Great little pizza joint. I think I like it so much because it looks like a dive-y hipster place that could have been uprooted from Baltimore and placed in the middle of City Market. It's a hoppin' place for sure, but we found two seats at the bar no problem. Got two slices of veggie pizza. Large slices, NY style, great crust! Nice cheap, satisfying dinner to top off a long day of walking around the city.

In town for a few days and rolled into this pizza place to get a couple slices. Pizza was awesome! Slices were huge, the crust was on the thinner side but toppings were fatty chunks! Was starving when I went in, finished two slices and was done! I'll go back for sure.

  • Steve V.

Big Big slices. My brother ordered two cheese slices for a taste test last night. For just over 5 bucks we got our slices, which was the size of a medium pizza. The crust was thin and baked just right so it didn't flop down. The sauce was just right, not too sweet and the perfect amount of mozerella added just the right amount of salt to the pallet. Service was friendly and fast... we got our slices to go, but still. Hungry and not wanting a lot? Just get 1 slice and you'll be in pizza heaven.

Good, cheap pizza. Great for a quick pick up when you are strolling through city market. Note: Cash only. If you are getting it to go, just walk inside and go up to the register to order.

After being wiped out from touring all day and taking a nap for a couple hours, I woke up and searched for a local pizzeria. 10 o' clock at night and it was the perfect time to get our eat on. The thin crust filled with gooey cheese may not be an ideal health kick for some, which means more for the ones that love the junk. The place is found with locals and tourists enjoying each other's company and the cheap food. It was pleasant to sit outside with the nice breeze going on under the cover while being away from the crowds in the market area.

It s 2014 they are cash only with a ATM in the place that charges 5.00 to get money out. It would be nice if they would have told me that they only took cash before I got my food. So in the end with the ATM charges I paid $19 for 2 slices of greasy midiocre pizza with half the cheese it should have had on it.

This is a must visit place in Savannah. The pizza slices are huge, delicious, and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is fun. Our waitress was nice, and offered plenty of refills. Just don't forget to bring cash!

Authentic Savannah scene! Pizza is awesome, beer is fantastic and a very cool hole-in-the-wall feel. Must try!

Good pizza. Just cramped, pretty dirty, O-K service, and only takes cash :(

  • Jessie M.

Ya, this place was awesome. We got a medium pizza with mushrooms, pepperoni, onion, and olives and it was the PERFECT combination. Really solid pizza. Nothing fancy or wood-fired or deep dish or thin crust.... just your standard American-style which is still my favorite kind!

Ok so the place is always packed, the pizza looks appealing and smells mouth watering....... But, get a slice and your dreams are crushed it looks like a new York slice, smells like one too, but omfg it's a party foul..... Two thumbs down the crust would be awesome if they didn't dump a half can of crushed tomatoes on it.... The cheese is low grade man I was immensely saddened and disappointed by the quality and threw my slice out.... Thanks for wasting my time and luckily it wasn't expensive......

The pizza is good, they accepted only cash NOT CREDIT CARD, the services is very friendly, five starts for them.

Best pizza in Savannah !! Slices were huge and very tasty. Price wasn't that bad either.

This was hands-down some of the best pizza I've ever had. Even amazing as leftovers. The waitress was prompt and nice too. Service at the hostess stand was not that great though. When we first walked up, it took them about 10 seconds to greet us, even though we were the only two patrons at the stand. They told us it would be a 15 minute wait if we wanted to eat outside. So we got some cash from the atm (one downside - they only take cash) got a couple beers from the bar and went back outside, a whole 5 minutes later. We noticed that people that had arrived after us were being seated. Mind you, we were standing right in front of the hostess stand. So we asked where we were in line. The hostess said they had already called our name. Obviously they didn't try very hard. But we were seated a few minutes after that, so it was ok.

Hands down our favorite grub in Savannah. Yeah, you can get fancy comfort food all over, but where else can you get huge, NY style slices (1/4 pie size) for so cheap ($2.50 for cheese then add 50 cents per topping) in a hole in the wall, great atmosphere place. We ate at Vinnie's 3 times in one long weekend, two of those times being on the same day. Love it.

  • Colleen J.

Oye. Where to start? Being that this is in the touristy and annoying area of downtown Savannah, I was kind of skeptical. Welp, I can now confirm that their pizza may be my kryptonite. It was great, we even stuck with the plain cheese pizza to keep it simple/cheap and it was still a wow. They also had an impressive beer cooler with a pretty deece selection. If you're a pizza lover, hit it up late night when the crowd dies down and you will not be disappointed@!

Really? I don't understand all the hype. I was in town with my wife for vacation/business. Found other incredible restaurants like Anna's around the corner. Service was good but the pizza was just ok. Nothing special. I don't understand why the locals suggested this place so highly. Im pretty easy on giving restaurants high rankings. This is one of my first negative reviews.

Funky place. Good pizza. I had two huge pepperoni slices and a water and my bill was about $6!!! Went here with two coworkers. They had calzones and said they were good. Spinach salad with feta and mushrooms was basic but fresh and good and came with 3 bread sticks. Beer prices were a little high- at $3-$4 each for draft.

First off, let's start with the positive... - The atmosphere is excellent inside. It makes you feel as though you're experiencing an authentic pizza parlor. Now, on to the negatives... - The service is a little bit on the slow side. It's to be expected though, especially with how busy it was on a Tuesday night. The servers did there best to accommodate everyone as quick as they could while seeming to be a bit understaffed. - Now for the important part - the pizza itself. First off, we need to understand a few things. NYC style pizza needs to be renamed as "Just a thin slice of pizza". There was nothing "authentic" as far as comparing Vinnie's to a classic style of true NY pizza. The crust was a little bit on the thick side and the cheese was too heavy, but the most distinguishable trait of a TRUE NYC slice is the sauce! So many places outside of NY forget about one of the main ingredients of a great slice. The sauce needs to have a smooth texture and a bit of sweetness to really capture what is a NY piece of pizza. Vinnie's completely misses on this fact and seems to almost use a generic tasting marinara sauce as its base. I'm all for eating at different pizza parlors and having an original slice, but what I'm tired of are pizza joints claiming to have "NYC style pizza" when they clearly don't even come close. This place just didn't live up to the hype that everyone has been talking about.

Good not great. Slices are big but I waited a half hour for a slice. Then I could barely taste any sauce and it was luke warm. How could I wait that long for mediocre pizza? So so... Bring cash. No cc accepted

The pizza here is legit. We could see the place from our hotel window and didn't feel like sitting down to a pretentious dinner at City Market with our 1.5 month old, so we opted for an 18-incher New York Style pizza at Vinnie's. And y'all... we don't regret it. We live in Chicago and don't love what they consider pizza in those parts. Italians and New Yorkers do it right. For some reason, the middle of the country seems to think pizza should be like lasagna. We were both stuffed and had 4 pieces left for cold pizza in the hotel room the next morning. The only thing better is having beer with it-- and they have that too. I'd go back. If you don't add toppings, your 18-incher is just $12. We thought that was a pretty fantastic deal for enjoying the beautiful night while sitting outside.

We found this place our first night in Savannah and boy did our bellies end up full and happy! My hubs and I each got our own slice and then shared a slice of pesto. We were in pesto heaven! We went back the next night (I'm a big fan of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach to eating out) with my sis-in-law. Pizza was still good but the pesto slices weren't as delish as the night before. So the lack of consistency is the only knock. Other than that, the service is great, the prices are right, the pizza is overall delish! Definitely a place you must go in Savannah!

After driving up to Savannah from Florida we were tired and didn't want anything fancy for dinner so we opted for an old reliable, pizza. Having seen so many positive reviews we decided to give Vinnie's a try. I guess we were lucky with our timing as we walked up and were able to be seated at an outdoor table right away. We ordered a white pizza with sausage and onions. I must admit to being a little befuddles by all the glowing reviews because this pizza was fine but nothing remarkable in our book. The crust did not have the developed depth of flavor we prefer leaning more toward what I think of as a cracker style crust. I kept wishing I had some olive oil to drizzle on it. For a white pizza the amount of ricotta on the pie was negligible. The sausage was nice and spicy and they were generous with the toppings. I liked that they used big pieces of onions. Overall it was just an average pizza though, certainly not one that I will be pining after when we have left the area.

We ate here while on vacation. The wait to get in was rather long, but we were able to walk around the cute shops nearby while waiting. The pizza was top notch. My only complaint was that after two toppings, you had to pay for each additional topping individually as they do not have any pizza topping combos. If I visit Savannah again, I will go back to Vinnie Van Go-Go's.

My husband and I ate there one night recently and had very high expectations based on the reviews. We were able to go right in if we sat at the bar. That was fine, except it was in August in Savannah and there was no air conditioning! The doors were open and we were within a few feet of huge pizza ovens. That's okay, I can handle sweat and a little heat--as long as I don't pass out, I'm alright. We ordered a medium pie for the two of us, half peperoni and half hamburger and onion. It is very much like typical New York pizza with it's thin, crispy crust. It was very good. The sauce was zesty and tasted fresh. I didn't find there to be very much cheese on it, though the overall taste of the pizza was good. We saw other folks ordering slices and they looked huge! Our medium was described as a 14 inch pie but the slices those other folks had must have come from something enormous. We had soft drinks but plenty of people were having cold beer and ice-water. Another reviewer said there is an air conditioner inside down at the end. We weren't near the end to feel anything from a tiny window unit! The place itself inside has a low ceiling and really looks like a dump. I was rather surprised to see it had a 96 health rating as shown on the clipboard behind the register. I've eaten in rough places enough to know that appearances aren't everything, though, and there were plenty people waiting to eat there. Would I go back? Certainly! I just hope it's not in August!!

WONDERFUL find. I have to admit I was dragged here, didn't want to go at all, but was so worth it. Outdoor seating, delish food. Great beer.. Cash only so be prepared. This place is totally worth the wait!

  • Beth M.

Cash only place. I think they have a KISS policy (keep it simple stupid). Very simple menu. Homemade crusts and the real feel of a local gem. 14'' pizza was perfect to fill up my husband and it was very reasonably priced! Could've saved even more if we would've just ordered our own slice with whatever toppings. WILL recommend to others!!!

To our surprise, but not really, it was kinda hard to find a spot to eat at 10pm on a Saturday night in Savannah. If you're not willing to go with a $$$ option, and looking for something more in the $$ range, you know, better than an Applebee's but not quite a Ruth's Chris, you might find yourself stuck with pizza spot, Vinnie Van Go-Go's; locals swear by it. The pizza was good enough, a little too light on the sauce but perfect crust. We ordered by the slice, which was our mistake - our neighbor's fresh pie looked pretty delectable. What we had envisioned as an epic night in Savannah where we take it over and offend its simple virtue of Southern charm, ended up being cut short by a spontaneous allergy attack. Next time, sweet sweet Savannah, next time.

I was lucky that there were no line when I went visit last week. We ordered a large half red and half special white sauce with 4 additional toppings. They were very generous on the amount of toppings they spread the the pizza. They use real ham instead of lunch meat ham and the pineapple are cut in huge chunks. The service was wonderful, the price was affordable and atmosphere was great. Overall I think they are an incredible restaurant in the city market. Will recommend everyone to give it a try.

Got into Savannah late on a Thursday night and was in serious need of some grub. Drove past Vinnie Van Go-Go's and remembered seeing good reviews about it on Yelp. So glad we stopped in here! A slice of pizza is enormous, $2.50 gets you cheese and then you pay $0.50-$0.75 per extra topping. I had spinach, mushroom, and sun-dried tomatoes and would order another slice of that in a heartbeat! They were not skimpy with the toppings. They serve some local brews for much cheaper than anyone else around. Staff was friendly and the building was cool. Will definitely come back on my next trip to Savannah!

  • Scott L.

I actually give it 4-1/2 stars. Good New York style pie, available by the slice. Crispy, chewy crust. Fold it in half and eat it. I showed up late and went there on the recommendation of some friends. We dined inside. The atmosphere is right up my alley, and they have some great beers on tap. Service was good. The music that night was like 70's acid rock guitar instrumental (could have done without personally). I'd deduct a half a star for the fact that they only take cash. I'm a business traveler, and paying cash is a huge hassle for me. I would have gone back more, during my stay, but didn't want to have to get more money from an ATM.

  • Susana H.

OK so every time my husband and I visit Savannah we HAVE to stop here for a slice! We start talking about it as soon as we get into town. It's always busy and hot as hades waiting in line to place your order. But it is worth every drop of sweat for slice of their pizza.

Very good - lots of different pizzas to choose from but the location is key and the outdoor space is great. It takes a little long to get the pizza on busy nights but great drinking food.

  • Adam S.

Not sure what I'm missing with this place. I just don't think the pizza is that great. Always packed with tourists. Not sure why. Apparently people on this love it too. I would say this is the 4th or 5th best place in town for pizza (and it's definitely not a pizza town). Also, this is not, I repeat NOT, NY style pizza. You should probably disregard any review that claims otherwise as they clearly have a very limited understanding of pizza styles etc. If you're a tourist who doesn't know what a calzone is heading into the meal, maybe this is a good place for you. If you like good pizza, keep looking...

  • Troy E.

I'm definitely a fan, because the pizza is good and it's an excellent value (the large pizza is HUGE). I give it four stars instead of five because the delivery can sometimes be slow, and because they take cash only (c'mon, it's 2013).

    (4)

Thin NY style pizza - yum yum - cheese is boring, order a pizza with toppings and flavor. This place had a long line for slices on St. Pat's day - they handled themselves beautifully. $3 slice!

Loved the za at Vinnie's. The crust is crispy and crunchy but still bready and thick. I don't know how they do that, but it sure is delicious! Good selection of cheap beer at the bar as well.

Went to Vinnie Van Go-Go's for dinner on a Saturday night at 6:00PM. They got us in within 10 minutes as a party of 6. We sat out on the patio which was absolutely perfect. Such a fun atmosphere being able to people watch and hear live music. We got a medium pepperoni, sausage, and black olive pizza. The pizzas are HUGE! The crust was absolutely delicious and the sauce amazing! We had a baby and toddler with us and it was definitely kid friendly. The prices can't be beat. Our bill was around $25 for the medium pizza and 2 beers. We will absolutely be coming back! **WARNING: They do not have high chairs for children. Bring your stroller if you want your baby to have somewhere to sit other than your lap!

  • Gabrielle B.

We ordered a large cheese pie to go from Vinnie Van Go-Go's after a long drive from Brooklyn to Savannah and made the decision solely based on their claims to have New York Style pizza. Sadly, it was not the thin, crispy crust of a new york styled pizza and was instead very doughy, so much so that not even dipping the crust in a sauce made it very pleasing. The pizza was not BAD, and in fact served itself very well cold the next day, it was just disappointing. Perhaps they should let go of the "new york" thing and just sell plain ol' cheese pizzas. If we weren't so deadbeat, we would have attempted to dine-in because the place did look pretty chill and the limited outdoor seating nestled in this very private corner made the wait look well worth it.

This is my favorite pizza place in the Southeast. I love coming here when I'm in Savannah. I like to eat at the counter and they will also split a slice a pizza for you to share if you ask , which is nice.

business was booming this weekend for the savannah rocknroll run. we didn't want to ruin our appetite for savannah sweets, so we popped in vinnie's for a slice of pie. the slices are still humongous. we had 1 slice each of cheese, tomato, spinach, and mushroom pizza. the crust is thin and crispy and it was baked perfectly. there was something missing this time though....maybe it was what seemed like a complete lack of red sauce? i had to douse mine in garlic salt and red pepper flakes to have any taste. my wife the same. but as the saying goes, even bad pizza is still good pizza. i like the place, the staff, the location. still cash only. 16 bucks for out 2 slices and 2 cups of beer.

A SCAD staple, although also usually mobbed by tourists. Excellent pizza. You will have to wait a bit for a table most likely.

    (4)
  • Katie B.

The pizza is truly, truly good and the crust near perfect. The outdoor tables are too small for the monster pizzas they sling your way, so we actually had to eat with our plates on our laps, but it was kinda worth it. The service spotty, but it's mostly cute hipster SCAD students, so who's complaining. Don't forget, it's cash only.

I was skeptical about pizza since we're from Chicago. I was very surprised. We were seated right away and the service was great. The sauce was good and the ingredients freshly cut. The tea could've been a little sweeter. Fun atmosphere right by the market.

When you are walking down through the Savannah Historic district marketplace walk to the end and look in the window and watch the pizza guys toss around the pizza dough spinning it to size and shape. They make the pizza right there in front of the public. Ask for an outside table pick your favorite pizza pie, grab a soda/brewski and enjoy the scene. Great place to people watch. Expect to wait for a table most hours of the day and night, its a popular hang out. :::Oh yeah and Bring cash:::

First off, terrible service! over 45 minutes for a cheese pizza...what!? waitress continued to ignore us despite our looks of desperation told me the Moon River beer was their IPA...it wasn't menu says thin crust pizza...not on your life 'neopolatin style'? doesn't that have to be wood fired? a very busy place, but I guess pizza is an simple choice for dinner definitely disillusioned by the crowd...will never return, and I recommend you skip it!

  • Alasha B.

I know is seems almost blasphemous to say this, but I'mma say it: Vinnie's makes the best pizza I've had in my life, and this is coming from a Jersey girl. I KNOW MY PIZZA. If my memory serves correctly, the owner is either from Philly or Jersey. So glad he decided to try his luck and bring the product to the SAV. It ain't the toppings, it ain't the crust, it ain't the extensive collection of beer they have in the cooler that can potentially cloud your judgment... the secret is in the sauce. ( All that other stuff could help color your opinion, though). Don't be intimidated by the hole in the wall grungy looks, the loud punk over the PA system, or the organized chaos. I've been coming here since they opened- like, literally the DAY they opened, and I've been consistently getting great service and great pizza, salad, and calzones since that fateful day. The rules haven't changed: no reservations, CASH ONLY, to-go means to-go, and if you have a large group, you're pretty much assed out. I think that the limited amount of space the place has lends itself to the great product and service they they are able to offer. If this was a big joint, it'd probably suck. Oh yeah, the prices are hella reasonable for everything. Get you some.

    (5)
  • Kevin B.

This pizza has great crust. The toppings are average. Be warned, it's CASH ONLY. The price was reasonable but it's just pizza.

Great pizza, we tried the spicy sausage on ours and it hit the spot. Small location still has a local feel to it even though it's recommended by every book, website, magazine etc... The service was great and everything came out fast. Would definitely recommend waiting if there is a line.

Awesome pizza!!! Best pizza I have had in years. The dough is soft and chewy. If you are in Savannah, then this spot is a must.

  • Mark A.

I love pizza, but I'm picky about it. That doesn't mean I won't try it all, but it takes a good bit to excite me outside of the traditional places in NYC and Chicago. This pizza was very impressive. We went in on a Friday night around 9pm after 10 hrs driving and this is exactly what I needed...a pie and some good beer. Oh and they have some good beers! No frills type of place. Order your pizza from a nice waitress, waitress keeps your beer full, pizza comes after about 15 mins. Box up what you don't eat and that's a good breakfast. Next stop in Savannah will definitely include this place.

    (4)
  • Tiffany H.

Why do people always complain when places are cash only? It keeps costs down, and it's not like this place is mad expensive. This was the only place (minus the carnival food across the way) that was open late night the day before St. Patty's serving food. Every other place was serving drinks but no eats. A slice for a few bucks? Sure. It was MASSIVE just like the photos people have uploaded. It was also a good ratio of cheese to bread and sauce. The line was held up by a woman ordering a ridiculous amount of pizza, but a second girl helped us out. She was both fast and nice. All around good place.

  • Lindsay L.

I was a little leery about eating here, since the location is in City Market. Some people say it is very "touristy". However, all the hype on yelp about V-V-G-G proved to be true. Service was fast and friendly. We sat outside and the table was tiny, but we made do. They had a great beer selection but were sadly out of the good ones, including the locally-made Moon River. I liked the crust and the way you could pick from a list of ingredients for just your slice. The ingredient list wasn't very creative but it has all the staples and a few twists. I had mushrooms, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes on mine. All were yummy, but I wished the tomatoes were a bit bigger. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat, it had a nice mix of tourists and locals. I would go again or recommend it to others simply because of the food quality, atmosphere, location, and price. Lots of Savannah events are set around eating and it can add up. With Vinnie Van Go-Go's, you can have a great meal, a good time, and money to spare.

The pizza was pretty good but has anyone in the restaurant taken a food safety/sanitation course? Honestly I don't care if the furnishings aren't fancy but the place WAS FILTHY and they wiped the tables down with a rag hanging from the outside door handle. How about some sanitizer? I was afraid to eat and walked a few blocks to use the restroom at the hotel. I was afraid to see what Vinnie's looked like. It was also so cold in there I had to keep my coat on.

    (2)
  • Lisa K.

All hype. Thin, minimal taste pizza. Waited 20 minutes for a slice while waiting for pizza to go. Thin, burnt bottom with barely any topping. We got a white pizza to bring back to hotel. One bite & we are finished. What a waste. We tried it about a year or two ago with the same conclusion.

I was in Savannah last year for work & as former New Yorker I know what a good Circle cut Pie is & this is the place when you are in Savannah to have a pie. The Pizza I had was outstanding!!!! Yes this place is old & run down looking & it's cash only but this is the closest thing to a NYC Pizzeria you can get in the south.

Pizza was great! Can buy by the slice or whole pie. Beer & wine only - CASH only. Limited menu though. You're going there for pizza and pizza only.

OK - Pizza. Maybe, the place was overhyped and we ended up expecting too much. May not go back here when we visit Savannah next time.

Pizza = great drunk food. Yay! Was in Savannah for New Year's Eve, on the way to being nice and toasty relatively early in the evening, and decided to grab some grub. This place was completely slammed, with no available tables and a horrendously long wait, so we just placed our orders to go and ate the pizza in City Market plaza. Huge slices, decent prices, decent selection of beer. Win! (Let's face it, when you've been drinking, anything greasy and warm tastes fantastic, no?!)

    (4)
  • Carrie B.

Delicious - Simply delicious. The pizza was amazing. I ate three pieces before I even knew it. We ordered the half pesto - half white pizza with spinach, sundried tomatoes, and mushrooms we could not chose which sauce we wanted and the waitress said you do not have to - get both! What a decision! The atmosphere is definitely eclectic it was a chilly day and we were seated on the "patio" because they have very limited space inside it just made us appreciate the hot pizza even better! Service was awesome and very helpful -everything here was great! When you leave pay close attention how the orders are received from servers it is quite a sight they slide it on the line from one end to the other it is really something to watch them build a pie!

I ate here two times during my short stay in Savannah because the pizza here is just that amaaaazing. It's probably the best thin crust pizza I've ever had. The slices are HUGEE, 2 slices was enough to feed 4 of us. The menu is simple, you create your own pizza/slice (about .50-.75 cents per topping). And it only takes them about 5-10 minutes to make it. I was able to grab a quick lunch there right before heading to the airport, and made it there with plenty of time to spare. I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area again.

Well... the location is nice and fun, but pizza was just OK. Nothing spectacular. Just regular pizza made in huge quantities as they are very busy.

EXCELLENT pizza! Large slices, thin and crispy crust, great toppings, available by the slice. The only negative was this is a cash only place. But the pizza is DELISH! I would eat here all the time if it were closer to where I lived! The place is a little packed/tight but the pizza is worth any negative we noticed while we were there.

In a tourist town, and a tourist center, a restaurant take cash only? Seriously? There's a reason for this. For $20 I fed myself and my girls on one HUGE pizza, with drinks! Yes, I even had a beer for that price! Great job Vinnies! BEst pizza around, best price, and walking distance from everything!

Very good. Not amazing, but very good. Pricing was very reasonable, service was fast and friendly, my drink didn't go empty, very wide selection of toppings, great outside seating area.

This place brings back memories, good ones mind you. The Pizza is great here and its in a great location in City Market. The slices are huge and you can get any topping you desire on them. The Calzones are also something I recommend, so don't sleep on those. "What's a Calzone?" you may ask. It's kind of like a sauceless pizza pocket stuffed with mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese and usually some type of meat. (or veggies for you herbivores) Pepperoni or sausage are popular choices. They come with a side of Marinara to dip it in. These things are huge, so its not for those who eat like birds. Although they can get packed its usually a fast turn-around. Go grab a beer on City Market while you wait for your table. The open container law is in affect in the Sav, which means you can drink alcohol in public as long its not in a glass container. Its the Dirty South so you shouldn't be in a rush anyways.

This is one of the best places to go downtown for a casual lunch, dinner or linner. They make any kind of pizza you can think of and the taste, well, it's fresh and to die for. Vinnie's (as the locals call it) is within walking distance from all of the hotels and parking areas on Bay and River Street. Growing up in Savannah, I believe this is one of the few downtown restaurants that the locals love just as much as the tourists!

I live in NYC now and have had my fair share of NYC style pizza. Vinnie Van GoGo's is the best pizza I've ever had. Seriously. I'm not saying that because I used to work there, I'm saying it because it's true.

Fantastic Pizza! I was presently surprised when we ate here on a weekend trip to Savannah. Fresh made dough and ingredients - not greasy at all! Reminded me of the pizza I ate in Italy - seriously! Not to mention, a medium (8 slices) was only $10 plus $1 per topping - great price.

I am a definite fan of Vinnie's! There was a wait out front but what the host won't tell you is when you put your name down you're only putting your name on the list for the outdoor seating. When there is a 25min wait outside you can easily just walk inside and sit right away...it is first come first serve. I wish she would have told us that, it would have saved us a lot of time. Beer selection is good. Friendly staff. The pizza is delicious!

It is not often that I am blown away by a pizza place. In fact it hasn't happened since my first visit to Dewey's in Cincinnati about 10 years ago. But on our last night in Savannah we took a shot on Vinnie's after hearing several good things from friends of ours who know Savannah. The basic margarita pizza was simply delicious. I love when a restaurant does one or two things really right, and Vinnie's has the basic pie completely nailed. My wife and daughter and I annihilated a large pie, and undoubtedly would have gone back if this had not been our last night in town. Drawbacks are Vinnie's cash-only stance, plastic beer cups and the wait. But contrary to some other Yelper's reviews, our service was helpful and very attentive, which only made the pizza taste better. We will definitely go back to Vinnie's.

The menu claims it to be neapolitan pizza, which leads me to believe the owners have never actually been to new york. Cash only generic pizza *shrug*. I recommend that northerners go to mellow mushroom for something different, and if you insist on having something that hits closer to home, try screamin' mimi's.

After being out on River Street this joint is the perfect late night food. Pizza by the slice is overpriced and not worth it - you're better off just getting a pie. We went with a cheese pizza that had spinach and mushroom topping. Absolutely delicious! The only down side is that the seating was uncomfortable and that the bathrooms are upstairs and out of way and were very dirty.

Having New York style pizza while vacationing in Savannah was a plus. We had the cheese pizza. It was delicious, fresh dough included. A large pizza is only $12.50! Sauce was on the sweeter side for me. Service was excellent. The sweet tea kept coming. Nice seating outside. Remember, cash only!

A good Savannah City Market find that wasn't besotted by hordes of Paula Deen clones. Vinnie Van Go-Go's serves up excellent pizzas and calzones with a uniquely homemade flair. Portions were sizeable and totally yummy. I had a calzone which was almost the size of a football. The accompanying marinara was just right. Services was fast, attentive, and personable. And everything was very reasonably priced. I can't wait to return to this place.

It's just pizza, and salad, and beer. And they only take cash. So why do people wait an hour for a table - as we just did? Because it's all done very well. Good enough beer list. Mostly bottles. Salad - all spinach, but plenty, with good feta and dressing. Pizza - fresh ingredients, wonderful hand-tossed thin crust (our table allowed us to witness this!). Service - maybe a bit on the cool side, but certainly efficient - no problems at all. If a place does simple things very well, people will wait an hour for the table. For us, it was a very worthwhile wait.

Great pizza that was reasonably priced for a touristy town. Love the spinach salad; simple, fresh, and good.

Thanks to Yelpers I found this place about 3 blocks from my hotel. We went on a rainy Saturday night and the place was still packed. We waited about 5 minutes for a table for two. The spinach salad was made with the house vinaigrette dressing. We ordered three slices of pizza, green olives, artichoke and onion. This was one of the best slices of pizza I've ever had. The crust was thin and very crusty with specks of corn meal on the bottom. It was so good that we went back for lunch the next day. The crust was not as crispy but was still good.

It wasn't bad but the pizza was very greasy and they only take cash.

We never miss a chance to come to this place. They use good Italian sausage and a nice tangy sauce. The crust is a little thick for my taste but this pie comes together really well. The patio is great. The place has a wonderful quirkiness. The servers are cute kids from SCAD. I love this place!
