I was really expecting better quality for the entrees. Everything on the menu sounded so appetizing, I had trouble choosing. Bangers and mash was basic, not bad. The roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was completely disappointing. The meat was too tough to even chew and the Yorkshire pudding was stale. All I ended up eating was the garlic green beans and the gravy. The restaurant decor was charming and the service was great. Perhaps I just chose the wrong thing off the menu, but I don't think I'll be going back to find out.

Good food, good beer. I enjoyed this place for a late night excursion to grab food. Some drunk guy on the street said it was legit, so we went. Get the steak sandwich, it was delicious.

If it weren't for the really nice waiter, my cocktail, doughnut holes, and the Mac and cheese, I probably would have given this place 1 star. I was REALLY craving some crab cakes and ummmm I'm sorry but these little joints were not even close to crab cakes. I may as well have eaten bread. Seriously! I mean dry bread was the consistency. I could barely taste the crab flavor. The corn joint was alright. Needed salt. I like my Mac and cheese creamy but I understand the southern dry Mac and cheese and it's cool if done right, and this was done right. My cocktail had me high that night. Alcohol sho nuff did sneak up on me... In a good way that is. The doughnut holes were good. I was told this is a new item and well they need to keep it. Kind of made up for the mishap with the crab cakes but not got enough to make me forget. Will I go back, no. I'll be back in Savannah next year, but there are so many other good restaurants to visit... I'm sure that provide fresh fish and do crab cakes justice. Big ups to the waiter who did his thing that night up on the rooftop. He was pretty cool.

I went with 3 stars because I couldn't remember what I had to eat or if I liked it..which says a lot for me. When I love food I remember what I ate and that I loved it. The atmosphere was nice. It seemed pretty dead for a Saturday night in downtown Savannah. The area we were seated in only had 1 other family. After they left we were alone in our area. So definitely quiet. They had the dim room look going. Anyways, I checked my my fitness pal app and I had the grilled chicken sandwich and french fries. Still don't remember if I cared for it but since I recorded I only ate half of it..I'm guessing I didn't.

A really neat and (allegedly) haunted bar with spotty service. My group of friends and I came here for a pub crawl around 7:30pm on a Monday night. Apparently this is a busy night for them - the bar was packed and the staff was frantically trying to serve everyone. Ordering at the bar took at least 15 minutes - my guess is the bartender was new since he was going so slow, but couple that with an understaffed bar and you're going to have to wait a bit for your drink. Overall, it's a cool bar that just needs some more bartenders on the busy nights.

It was our Anniversary and we did not make reservations...we figured we would not have any trouble finding a spot. What we didn't factor in was rain and walking as our form of transportation! We decided to find a romantic spot along the riverfront but when the lightening started we darted in the first place we saw. We both love Irish food, the Red Sox were playing and they had beer...works for us! It wasn't what you call romantic but we can adapt if nothing else. So, we were sat adjacent to the bar...which was fine because I could see the tv perfectly from there! I know I know! So we started with a beer flight and it was just ok...did not discover any beers to sing praises about. We had been nibbling all day so opted out of an app even though they all sounded delicious! I ordered the steak and ale pie and my hubs went with guiness meatloaf. Neither was great just ok. Our broccoli was cold and mashed potatoes were room temp. My pie was so popping hot I couldn't eat it at first. My husbands meatloaf and potatoes came without gravy...c'mon people! I asked our server if they had bread and if we could get a side of brown gravy...she said they had bead but didn't give it out for free and that it would be $2. Ok what...!? She was more than happy to accommodate the gravy offer....and this gravy was divine! Our server was pretty good except for when I asked if she could box up the broccoli that we both had left over (for the pug of course)and she said sure. She then took Brian's plate away and brought me back a box for my broccoli...sorry puggy you got screwed a little lol. Honestly though she was great. Very friendly! Oh weird thing...bathroom is downstairs and you have to take an elevator..but hey it's an old building. Upstairs they have a quaint little roof top area...so wish we could have set there!!! It was very romantic with the white twinkle lights and all! I probably wouldn't run back any time soon...bad choice for anniversary but on the plus side we didn't get hot by lighting!

Based on the taste of the spinach artichoke dip and the roasted salmon small plate, this place has deliciously amazing food. I can only assume the rest of the menu is comparable. You're cheating your taste buds out of an incredible experience if you walk past this place.

I can only comment on the atmosphere and the drinks here..... its a Irish bar/pub...pretty typical pub style...pool table in the back...I do have to say our bartender was great! He was witty, funny and me and my friend very much enjoyed talking to him! He also made a great drink! Grapefruit vodka!? yummm .....I wish I could remember his name!?

Great price! Great food! Very authentic! Talked to my good friend in England and described the food and atmosphere and she agreed on the authentic! Try the Bangers & Mash or the Steak & Ale pie!

Slow service, blah food. And for the price, doubt Id' go back. And besides that, the flippin booths and their hard seats - - my ass went numb waiting on the food:(((

Great atmosphere and free smells. Sowea in Winton's cellar downstairs is a great bartender. We have dinner plans around the corner, but I wish we were eating here. It truly smells awesome in here. Grabbed a few drinks and got on our way.

The Hublet put on his big, fancy spontaneous hat and whisked me up to Savannah GA on a Saturday afternoon. Savannah is fantastic: SCAD being there results in a lot of eclectic foot traffic, interesting shops and the obligatory tourist stores. After doing a lot of walking and a decent trolley tour, we decided to grab some dinner before driving back to Jacksonville. On our initial drive into Savannah we'd driven past Churchill's that touted itself as a British Pub, and this jumped out as somewhere to try: being 4k miles from my homeland means that I tend to lean towards British/Irish pubs and restaurants to get a taste of home, and The Hublet enjoys seeing me squeal with delight when I come across a British favourite that's been prepared to perfection. Walking into Churchill's, it definitely has the feel of a British pub with its dark, softly-lit interior. A shiny red moped feels a little touristy and out of place, but otherwise it's a nice venue. We opted for indoor seating as I'd had my fill of sun for one day and the seats were padded and comfortable, which was a blessing after all the ruddy walking and sightseeing I'd been doing. I ordered a River Street Punch and The Hublet requested a Black Velvet, but as they were out of Angry Orchard and were using Strong Bow in its place (less dry, more sweet), and The Hublet doesn't like sweet ciders, he ordered a pint of Old Speckled Hen instead. Old Speckled Hen is a respectable pale ale and was refreshing and welcome after our long day being sun baked. My River Street Punch was everything I like in my cocktails (sweet and cold), however the pineapple juice was the dominant flavour, hiding any trace of coconut run or banana schnapps. We were hungry but not starving, and simply wanted to fuel up before driving back to Jacksonville, so we skipped Starters and went straight to our Entrees. Churchill's offers a pretty decent menu of Small Plates (Baked Brie, Crab Cakes, Shrimp & Grits, Fish Tacos and so on), Sandwiches (Prime Rib, Cheeseburger, Turkey & Avocado and so on), Steaks and Sides (Sweet Potato Fries, Salads, Mashed Potatoes and so on). I ordered Fish & Chips and The Hublet ordered the Chuchill's Indian Curry with a side of Yorkshire Pudding & Gravy as he absolutely loved the ones I made for him. My only menu complaint was that they didn't offer curry sauce to go with the chips. I'm not a ketchup or vinegar fan, preferring instead to dip my carby goodness into mayonnaise or curry sauce. The food was brought out surprisingly quickly and arrived hot and fresh. I have to say that my plate of Fish & Chips was what every portion of cheap newspaper-wrapped fish & chips brought from a Chip Shop wants to look like when it grows up: zucchini & squash slices made me feel less guilty about my fried meal, the tartar sauce was homemade and tangy, the cod was perfectly cooked...I hate the word moist beyond words, but have to say that my fish was moist and firm, and the chips were wonderfully fried without being greasy. The Hublet is a raging hot sauce fiend and cooks all curries accordingly, so although he didn't get the heat he was hoping for from his Chicken Curry, he found it absolutely delicious and refused to ask for Tabasco. He was a little disappointed by his Yorkshire Pudding, which was a bit dry and rubbery. I suspect that was cooked earlier in the day and reheated as they're crispy and fluffy when fresh but tend to get a bit chewy the older they get. He whispered to me that, "He prefers my Yorkshire Puddings a lot more," which is a compliment I shall treasure until I'm old and grey. Our server was attentive, drink and food service was fast, the menu was varied and the food quality was excellent. If you're a Brit wanting a slightly upmarket taste of home then Churchill's is well worth a visit.

Great selection of tap beers. We visited on a haunted tour. You should apparently watch for shoving. It is right next door to a local brewery and across from river street. Decorated adorably with a wine bar down stairs.

Hungry and wanting something local, we walked into Churchill's. INTERIOR: 1st floor with plenty of space and a basement with more tables and another bar. I was quite shocked by how spacious it was inside. SERVICE: service was awesome. Prompt, friendly, water refilled just in time, and able to answer any questions or request. FOOD: Our table ordered a variety of items but the one that stuck out was the pork shank. The description is what made me order it "fall off the bone tender" and it was just that. The portion was huge, the balance of flavors between the pork, mashed potatoes and not too sweet sauce with pieces of fruit and vegetables was delicious. Highly recommend. Did not do any drinks this time around but definitely a great place for drinks, shareable plates, all in a local, historic building. GO go!

Really average. We went around 10pm after the haunted bar crawl, and the service was not great. The waiter/bartender seemed a bit annoyed with us being there even though the bar part was packed. We got the nachos and flatbread which were pretty good though.

This place is overrated. The food we had was decent at best. Maybe come here if your looking for a nice atmosphere, but don't count on an original menu or superb food. Appetizers are small, actually almost nonexistent, and overpriced. Choose a different place if you want a good food, drink, bar, and savannah experience. Expectations were high and none were met.

I wasn't expecting to have a GREAT dinner that evening because, well, steak in a bay town? But they delivered! I ordered the steak and it came with the MOST WELL EXECUTED zucchini/squash! I actually asked for seconds, then met the chef to thank him! Really, Yes! Bartender made the best Upside down Pineapple cake shot I have ever tasted. They looked so goo, but my phone was dead so I have no photo. Buahhh. However, it was layered such and the ending was a sweet, raspberry something something! Service was superb too. (Bob charged my phone for s few minutes before I left) Good food, clean place, great time

I went downtown for a night out with some friends. We were first seated at a table that was WAY too small for four people. Four swimsuit models maybe. We asked for a bigger table though and the moved us. The service was good. They were attentive but didn't linger or disrupt our conversations. The food was really good. I had the Arancini balls and the pork shank with mashed potatoes and roasted root vegetables. All of which was delicious and we'll presented. The atmosphere was fun, though it was a little too dim. Upping the lights slightly might be nice. All in all I am excited to go back.

Truly a solid 4 star for this restaurant; I really enjoyed my dinner here while I was visiting Savannah. We went in about a half hour the restaurant opened and we're immediately seated and waited on. They had a good choice of IPAs and I really enjoyed their local options! To eat, I had the French onion soup and the turkey avocado sandwich with fries. The French onion soup is definitely a try if you are ever here. My sandwich was good and flavorful, however, for the price I paid for it I'd expected more sandwich and more fries on the plate! Because of that skimpiness, I would only rate this place a 3 star, however, the quick and exceptional service and the ambiance really brought it up to a solid four stars! If you're staying in Savannah for the weekend I would definitely try to hit this place up!

I like a place where you're greeted upon entering. Especially in Savannah, where there are so many choices, it's good when restaurant staff acknowledge that you chose their employer. Churchill's made me feel welcome and I responded by spending more than I should have. It was worth it. I had the split of cava at $7, refreshing! The menu was difficult to choose from, having a fine variety of delicious sounding choices of British, European and American favorites. I happily dove into the cheese and charcuterie board, a favorite meal. The attentive server helped me choose three each of meats and cheeses which came accompanied by grapes, nuts, olives, flat bread and rusks, with a tiny portion of local honeycomb on the side. The server checked in frequently enough about my satisfaction with the meal. I could have done without it, but I was so pleasantly enveloped in the cozy British pub ambiance that I wanted to linger, so I ordered the apple - blackberry crumble with English double cream custard. Sadly, it was rushed in the oven - the apples were hard, it was overly hot, and the custard was hot instead of cold as expected. The flavors were nice, but there needs to be a better prep on this item for $6. All in all, Churchill's Pub was a pleasant and delicious meal in a pleasant and welcoming place. Being directly across Bay Street from both the Hyatt and the Bohemian this was a bonus! Don't miss it!

Great location, lots to choose from in terms of beers, wine, well drinks. We've never eaten here, but it always smells delicious and they serve late. The bar is charming and the staff is friendly and attentive. Definitely coming back.

This is a fun place to come up to the roof and have a few drinks. The service can be somewhat slow at times, but when you are sitting up on the roof you can relax and take your time. We came here the last time just for drinks. We each ordered a Guinness and after the bartender poured about 2/3 of one of the pints the keg emptied. She said she was sorry but it took her about 20 minutes to wait for the keg to get replaced, the whole time our 2/3 filled pint sat behind the bar. She never came back to ask us if we would like something while we waited for the keg to get changed out which we would have. When the keg was finally replaced, she filled up the old warm 2/3 beer that had been sitting for 20 minutes.......boooooo. We paid and left. I have been before and had the French dip sandwich which was quite good. I'd probably return to have a beer on the roof, but I wouldn't come running back here.

4 stars for cooks 1:4 of a star to the waitress. I was DD and asked for a cola. Mike drank two something, (he's sleeping, not waking him up!) and each time he'd empty a glass ! BAM ! There sits another. My cola turned into water, ice cola. One time she asked if I wanted more. It's an east location for electric vehicle drivers! Coming into town on East Bay take left on Whitaker St. On the right is the parking - no app available since it's underground. - reads like I wasn't Designated Driver!

This place was a late night stop for a drink, it was located directly across from the Hyatt so it was convenient, and well being British, I'm always looking for a British pub in the US to stand up to a specific standard. This place shouldn't be called a British pub, it should be called a regular pub. A few pictures of union jack, red telephone boxes and Guinness on tap does not qualify this place to be called "Churchill's", let alone British. I didn't even have a drink there, although I noticed they did have Strongbow, my bf was majorly letdown that they didn't have Boddingtons on tap or Newcastle. It was very busy, we sat at the bar, it seemed mostly people drinking liquor and cocktails. It was raining outside so the rooftop was closed, but appartenly the rooftop has a bar too and its quite impressive.

Roof Top Dinning! Cool Roof Top Patio though the view was completely unentertaining, still Cool! The rest of the Restaurant looks Great! So Called British Pub with some Southern Dishes - We enjoyed the Food and the Ambiance! Service was great! Bouncer at the Door! It was Friday Night, first night in Savannah and this looked like a cool place to get a fast bite near our hotel. Shrimp and Grits with Andouille Sausage and Onions for me - and for my wife Brie Wrapped in a thin Dough served with Cinnamon Sugar Toast, Pecan Sauce and Fruit - of course we share (as Ken says these reviews do not write themselves) we enjoyed everything except the smoke! You can smoke on a rooftop dinning area - Savannah has Open Container privileges too! "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" had a scene filmed here in the Restaurant!

Churchill's need their British pub name revoked. It's an absolute disgrace that they are not open for the biggest game in club football. As a native Englishman, I am disgusted!

If you get into Savannah late at night, your places are limited to grab a bite. Churchill's has a late night menu, and about 40 whiskey's waiting for you! It's a fun place, and right in the middle of the historic district.

We went in for drinks and an appetizer the bartenders were really nice but the crab cakes were horrible they tasted like old crab and the outsides were burnt. And you only got two crab cakes for $12 I am sorry but for $12 for two burnt crab cakes are not worth it

Churchills is a bit of a hidden gem in Savannah. They primarily have small plates, but when you're not starving, or just want something small with drinks, this is the place to go. The rooftop is nice, but has kind of a wonky view. I haven't had any of the English type food, so I can't speak to authenticity, but overall I do really enjoy Churchills!

    (5)
  • Lisa B.

We had reservations at a brewery down the street and it was smoky and noisy, so we wandered into Churchill's. It's clean, well decorated and the food was terrific. Try the pimento cheese with pita, the mac and cheese (wow) and the curry. We'll return.

The only TRUE British Pub in town!! I worked for an English Chef for years, and it's nice to find good English comfort food here in Savannah, especially during the cold months!

I have to first and foremost give a shout-out to Chris, our bartender, for helping us through bourbons, apps, and food-geek spots. He could easily be a culinary tour director. My husband was hooked on Savannah 88 after our visit to Churchill's. I had a hankering for bar nachos. Chris humored me with my ordering of something so common, but convinced me to try one of their other unconventional pub-food options with the pot stickers. They are filled with meat and cabbage. Do not forget the sweet and tangy dipping sauce. They are delicious. The food may be seen as simple bar fare, but it is filling and hits the spot. I was disappointed that I wasn't hungrier, because the small plates and apps are abundant. I would've loved to try more. The one downside to this otherwise "reliable" dining and drinking destination was the rooftop. The staff was lax, looking at phones, texting and smoking cigarettes. They don't exactly convey the message of professional and accommodating, in other words, they are the exact opposite to the downstairs personnel.

Sit upstairs, the burger, fish n chips, and salmon are all really good!

  • Steve V.

I've been here three times now. I love the old bar downstairs, and the way they marriage the old look with the more modern as you go up in altitude to their roof top lounge with a slight tiki theme going on for the younger crowd. It's a neat place, but despite their cool decor one unfortunate thing is very consistent here... Water instead of Booze. Every time I order a Jack and Coke, I'm served a tiny plastic cup with a ton of ice and literally a half shot of whiskey. Being sober, due to my lack of drink, I watched the bartenders pour. This sobered me even more. Don't think I'll be back for the mixed drinks. 3 stars for the atmosphere. 1 Star for the stinginess. Average it all out, multiply by 3 and subtract 4.

The Churchill's onion soup is to die for! There is a giant crouton in the middle with loads of cheese and the soup itself is delicious. I've also had the curry there and it's okay, but I suppose it would be really good if you like mango pineapple sauce on it with lots of spices! The menu has very traditional English/uk dishes, so this is the place to go if your missing home and your from there or if your craving yourself som fish and chips or bangers and mash The only downside is that everyone I was with ordered a drink (or 10...) but it took 10-15 minutes to come out. Good luck!

My boyfriend and I had been thinking of visiting Churchill's for while and I'm very glad we finally did. First of all, the ambiance is very casual and inviting. We sat on their outdoor patio and even though it was a very hot day we really enjoyed it. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was delicious! I had the black bean burger and loved it, my bf had mac & cheese and meatloaf, also very good. I highly recommend it to everyone.

We ate here on a recent visit to Savannah. The rooftop bar and service were great, but the quality of the food did not match the upscale cost. Go for drinks and eat elsewhere would be my suggestion. My partner did like their Shepherd's pie.

my boyfriend and i went here just for drinks, as soon as we got there i asked where the restroom was, it was down two flights of stairs and completely outside the restaurant. and on my way up i slipped in some water the wasnt wiped up. it looks like a supper upper class pub but once on the inside it is in way impressive.

This is a great pub. Cool atmosphere and the bar is actually imported from Europe. Details like that generally impress me and keep me coming back. Their drinks are made well and the food is about as good as you could hope for at a British style pub. I happened to be there with a bunch of guys from my former military unit and lightning struck the area several times and knocked out power for a while. People with credit cards weren't able to cash out but the staff did their best to keep everyone happy.. lit a bunch of candles ( which actually added to the atmosphere even more) and kept the drinks coming. Overall a great experience even with the power outage. Definitely recommended.

Nice and quiet despite being on a main road. Beer was excellent and paired well with the cheese plate. The only disappointment we had is that we didn't stop in until the last day of our vacation.

Wanted to sit rooftop but there was an event going on so we settled for a street side window. Only downfall was the AC, place was freezing!! Great wine, nice cheese board, surprising good dumplings (my husbands pick not mine) for an English Pub. Service was good. Probably won't go back, but glad to have experienced it while we were in town.

If you like British pubs, then this place definitely lives up to the name. When we got there, we asked to be seated at the roof. Got there and the beer taps upstairs were out of commission and the guy the server there was a bit weird about not suggesting that one could go downstairs if a Guiness was on the mission agenda :) Anyways, we ended up at the bar downstairs and we had a blast. Got these awesome green onion and potato balls that were so flavorful. Got their indian curry that was not bad, could have cooked the curry powder a bit befit that would have subdued the overpowering turmeric aftertaste. Their bread pudding was seriously good, normally I am not a huge fan of that particular desert. However the bartender insisted on it and it was well worth it. The staff are friendly and attentive, the bartenders are simply amazing and pour a nice Guiness with the little clover leaf finish. They don't give you the eye when you ask for malt vinegar with the fries! BTW, get their fries and try them with vinegar, they are really good. Love this place and will be on my list of places to definitely visit in Savannah.

Bartenders were superb, just got an app but it was fantastic; chorizo wrapped in a crescent type pastry not sure of actual name. Very tasty. Bottled wine was reasonably priced. Highly recommended. Very friendly and great atmosphere.

This is a great establishment if you want that "old pub style" feel to a bar. Dark wood and rustic feel to the bartop and the tables and chairs. Good amount of selections of beer and whiskey but remember that when in GA, if you like a place that allows smoking then you will like this if not .. go during the day where you can grab a nice plate of bangers and mash and enjoy yourself. Good food, nice stopping point right outside of the cobble roads.

Me and my fiancé both thought the food was excellent. Had a kind of early supper, the waiter we had wasn't too enthused about anything but he knew his stuff. Awesome atmosphere and we will be back again for sure. The beer was nice and cold as well.

We didn't eat here, but we enjoyed ourselves during our short stay for a couple of drinks. Classically beautiful brick/wood decor and a good beer selection. It was very busy when we stopped by on a Saturday night, so it was a bit loud -- but we definitely experienced worse on our trip. We'll make it a point to try the food here on our next visit into town.

Food was fair at best. Small portions for the price. Fish and chips overcooked and chewy. Complaint made to waiter, replied "usually people say its good here" nothing offered to remedy situation. 3 stars only for selection of draft beer and decor.

My husband and I went here for a drink at the rooftop bar. The rooftop doesn't have much of a view but is still nice. It is a nice area, a little more relaxing than the darker pub downstairs or the street outside. Nicely decorated with green cushions etc. The service was great and the beers cold. We also order some spring rolls which were tasty. Overall it was a great place for a daytime drink. It got a little cold as the sun went down!

We were pleasantly surprised by the food, it was really good! Had the shrimp in spicy sauce and the pear salad. Both, excellent. My friends had the scallops and salmon and loved those as well. The beer flight was fun as too. They have a decent selection of beer.

  • Brian A.

Great atmosphere for a soccer match! The beer selection is nice and the decor is spot-on for a British Pub. The food was also spot on for British digs. The problem with that...is that the favorite food in Britain isn't even British (Chicken Tikka Masala). What does that say about their food? Churchills is comfortable and offers a rooftop to drink and dine. There is also a private room in the basement on your way to the restrooms. I would recommend giving Churchills a try when in town. Try: Any of the tap beers you haven't tried (great job Churchills) Avoid: Trying to be impressed by British food ;)

BAFFLED as to why this place only has three stars. Churchill's Pub is HUGE, but somehow very personable. We stopped by on a Sunday night in Savannah, and although it was rather deserted, it was littered with just the right amount of people. It was relaxing and in a great location. My friends and I ultimately went to eat. Their three course meal for $20, however limited, is a super great deal. I got a salad to start with, the roasted chicken and the donuts for dessert. We all also shared the baked brie for an appetizer. A. The baked brie was absolutely phenomenal. I seriously was kind of upset I ended up having to share. But the starter salad I had was a little too drenched in Caesar dressing for my taste. B. My entree was HUGE! Literally, like, half of a chicken, some roasted potatoes and stuffing with house made gravy. I'm not even a gravy fan, and I enjoyed this stuff. The chicken was juicy and didn't really need any other additions. The only flaw was that some of the food was way overpowered with rosemary, and I didn't end up finishing my stuffing. The donut dessert was...perfect. Get it if you go- seriously. My friends also thoroughly enjoyed their meals, and overall, it was truly a great experience. The beer is kind of overpriced, but it's downtown Savannah. Do the sampler thing and get five 5oz. beers of your choice for what I think was only $10. It's a ton of beer for the price, and it's a great way to try out new things. Anyhow, I loved Churchill's, and next time I'm in Savannah, I'm sure to return. The ambiance was low key and comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. And the food was pretty great.

Had a great time here at Churchill's Pub. We were here during the Savannah Music festival. We just wanted some small plates and wine. We sat in the "wine Celler" it was really great, the waitress and the bartender were both very good to.us . The nosh was good too! Thanks

This place is just plain cool. Friendly staff & patrons. Its huge! I did not eat here but enjoyed cocktails a few times on my trip. Apparently the food is good, nice dining rooms & fire place. Shout out to Bob for his excellent service! There is a HUGE selection of beer & cocktails- full bar. I had a Smithwicks my 1st visit & a fabulous Mojito the next time- they will accommodate you- what ever you feel like drinking. The pub has a long wood bar, flat screen tvs- great place to watch sports, and Sirius radio blaring Irish music from the Emerald Isle.

Had Shepard's Pie, Fish & Chips, and raspberry crumble with warm English custard for dessert, and Guinness. My English husband and I enjoyed our meals, although portions are a little bit small. Will comeback when in the mood for English food!!!!

It pains me deeply to only be able to offer Churchill's two stars, but unfortunately my opinion of this place has steadily declined with each subsequent visit. I can distinctly remember getting fantastic, knowledgeable service and scrumptious, authentic food here, but it is no more. Most recently there in February and was sorely disappointed. Food was decent, but my waiter was inattentive and knew NOTHING about beer other than it had bubbles. Their beer selection seems to have taken nosedive towards typical and unexciting. We have been known to close Churchill's down, but we were in and out AQAP. I hope management can restore the former glory of this fine establishment.

My husband and I went there on our first night in Savannah. Since my husband lived in England the first 30 years of his, I felt his impression would be pretty much spot on. The restaurant is quite large. We were seated in a cavernous dining room where there was only one other table seated. It was somewhat British "pub-ish" in its decor. We got cocktails and were highly disappointed. There was a load of ice, a splash of cranberry juice and we could not even tell if they put vodka in it. Oh well, we came for the food so we didn't complain. I got the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding while my hubby got the bangers and mash. He said the sausages were good as were the mashed potatoes. They did put a small amount of steamed broccoli on the plate and it was also satisfactory. A small side of gravy was also provided for both our meals. My roast beef was prime rib so I asked for it to be cooked a little more done. I knew it to be a fatty meat and this was no different. It seemed I spent a lot of time cutting off fat. My Yorkshire pudding was obviously overdone. The bottom was so hard that a hard, crunchy layer of it peeled away. That was a disappointment since that was the one part of the meal I was most looking forward to! I had broccoli which was "eh" and three small roasted potato halves. Overall, the meal was okay. It wasn't fabulous but it wasn't awful. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant.

I ordered the Prime Rib sandwich with the steak fries. The fries were cooked perfectly; crispy outside and tender inside. The sandwich was great and the au jus was the best I have ever had. I would have given 5 stars, but there was that sinking feeling when my check came back WITHOUT my credit card! After about 5 minutes of frantically searching they found the card in a trash can near the bar. The waiter had picked up a drink at the bar and the card slipped out. All ended well! I will definitely be back!

We had a great meal there Friday night. Friendly and very efficient waitress, with excellent food. I particularly enjoyed my steak, which was done exactly the way I had ordered it. My wife enjoyed her fish and chips and my brother loved his meatloaf. Thumbs up all the way round!

Perfectly cooked burger, great vib and location. The soup was fantastic. The bartender in training was doing an okay job, the bartender was doing a good job shadowing him. The drink was fresh and the food was good. Highly recommend for a casual dinner and drinks.

This place is amazing! We were in town to look at their Ten-Downing venue for our wedding (which is spectacular, FYI) so we decided to have dinner there to try out the food. Our party of 8 was quickly seated in their wine cellar, Winston's, without a wait. The ambiance was amazing. The food? Even better. I was nervous at first with it being a British Pub, but the food was outstanding! Every person on staff we encountered was beyond pleasant. We ended up going there the next day for a quick drink at the bar on the main level and appetizers. I don't have one bad thing to say about this place!

  • Mike W.

Ok, I'll cut to the chase on this one: Churchill's original Drayton Street location was a Savannah institution that had a lot of character--a small British pub and neighborhood bar that felt like it should. It "did what it said on the tin", as the Brits like to say. Also, in the original location, the food was pretty good and they actually had a lot of real British pub standards. That location burned down in the early 2000s (I believe) and somehow, however, the new, much larger, location on Bay Street went for a mass-market appeal over being the beloved neighborhood institution Churchill's was known as to Savannah. Now, it's a massive bar. That's about all, too. They do have on their menu seven "traditional British" items, including of course fish and chips and also bangers and mash. However, the Ploughman's Lunch is gone . . . and what is a real pub without a Ploughman's Lunch?! To wit, their kitchen closes at 11pm on Friday and Saturdays . . . now here's a Blue's Clue I know you can use: at a real pub, the damn kitchen remains open long as the pub is open. That's one thing the seperates a pub from a bar. If you want it to be just another bar where bored tourists and rowdy military folks can have a beer, call it "Churchill's Bar" and leave it at that. It's also clearly geared towards tourists in the prices, which tend towards a wee bit high for pub grub. And it's no gastropub, either. As another reviewer noted, the food quality is on par with the likes of Friday's or Ruby Tuesdays. It just costs more. Alas, their web address is even "www. thebritishpub. com". Ok? They seem sincere in all but action about being a real British pub. Problem is, there's several in town that now surpass Churchill's in this regard. The location is ok if you're bar-hopping. The atmosphere is alright. But it's not a pub as a pub ought to be. Shame, that.

The crowd in this place was weird. There were closeted gay guys, skanks ("I'm in the marketing department"), old people, us (grad students), 30-ish salesman types trying to get their skank on, and oddly a very, very cool bartender. It's huge though, and having a whole bar up on the roof terrace where the georgia air can be taken is nice. Even though the roof terrace view is of the back of some buildings and a parking lot.

Great time at Churchill's Pub. Great food and great service. We stopped in to sit in the bar area to catch the end of a game. They have a huge wooden bar with several TVs, downstairs party room and rooftop bar/dining area. The variety of eating spots and exposed brick and other building details made it full of character. Plus, great to get a good meal while being able to watch a sporting event. Everything we ordered tasted great -- crab cake appetizer, ribeye, shepherd's pie. Entrees seem to come with a fresh, seasonal vegetable, which isn't necessarily clear on the menu, so it was a bonus for us. The portions were just right and the menu is huge -- something for everyone. For drinks: large cocktail list, including a fun alcoholic coffee drinks. I had the kahula/sugar/coffee with whipped cream. Excellent. Also a well-poured Guinness with shamrock. It gets five stars as a pub...but compared to all restaurants I've been to, a very solid four.

We only stopped in for a couple beers after dinner and what a great selection of beers and a super nice bartender. We were talking about our around the southeast road trip and he gave us some great golf courses to try out, and the one we did was the best. Awesome atmosphere and the bar is a sight to be seen. The wood is just incredible and was told that guys from England hand made it then came here and installed it. If in Savannah again, great place to have a good beer.

The service and Guinness were both good. We ordered the cheese fries. I would give the cheese fries 3 stars. I like my cheese fries with more cheese. Fish & chips were great, cod was nice and flaky with malt vinegar made the dish worth waiting for. Potato and leek soup was great, Yorkshire pudding was great except outside crust a little hard but the English gravy made it a little easier to chew. Over all I would give the meal 4 1/2 stars. Staff was very friendly.

I celebrated part of my New Years Eve here about 4 years ago and had a decent time. At the time, I had just turned 21 so my expectations about the nightlife at a bar consisted of partying the night away with young people and with some live music. With that being said, on the particular night that I did visit this location I did not really think that highly of Churchill's Pub. My group had to of been the youngest in the place, and I felt like everyone there was spending more time shooting us dirty looks than celebrating the fact that we were on the brink of a new year. Churchill's has several pool tables that were able to distract me from the mediocre bar scene that I had to endure. Overall, it actually was a pretty nice bar. Nothing too special about the place though. They did do a great job making the place look and feel like an authentic British Pub. If only there were not so many wankers there that night, I may have enjoyed myself more. Maybe it was I who was the wanker because of my age and biased opinion at the time concerning what elements in a bar make the place a great spot to hang out on New Years Eve.

Churchills was good...not great, but good. The food seemed a little too 'pre-packaged' to me. Tasted like it had been frozen and heated to serve. I expected more.

My husband and I visited from Newberry this past weekend and chose Churchill's for dinner one night. The staff was very helpful and the food did not disappoint. Despite my husband ordering just chicken fingers and french fries, the recommended NY Strip that I order was to perfection. I ordered it Medium and that is exactly how I got it which is almost unheard of in other establishments. I was torn between the Strip and their Shrimp and Grits but the bartender (who was also our waiter) suggested that if I was a steak lover, the Strip was the way to go. They apparently cut all their own in the restaurant. If I had not been so full from the meal, I probably would have ordered the shrimp and grits too because they came so highly recommended as well. Definitely will be going back to Churchill's the next time we visit Savannah.

While they had a good selection of drinks available, the food was mediocre at best. Would recommend it to go and just have a drink...fun atmosphere, the server did fine (not super friendly, but not poor with service), the food was pretty bad though, certainly not worth what it cost.

  • Kat C.

Churchill's would be better if it were just a bar - seriously. Skip the food. The thing is, British food isn't good in Britain, so why have it here? I dunno. I admit I've eaten here once - and half the people at my table liked the food, the other half didn't - but I found it to be bland and wished I had those calories back. I don't really get the hype. I've been with some large groups since on the patio bar and had fun. People seem to really love that "rooftop" area, which is funny since there's really not a great view... but anyway, it's fun for groups. But we always go somewhere else for dinner afterwards. So, I debated between two and three stars, but decided I'll give it three stars for having a good selection at the bar and being a good group happy hour spot. I'd probably give it two and a half if it were an option (and one if it were just the food... sorry, but it just doesn't cut it).

A nice pub located in downtown Savannah. It was a surprise to discover the upstairs roof-top patio area.. and it had a couple of pool tables downstairs, too.

We sat on the rooftop for cocktails after dinner, and we had a great experience! On a nice night, the atmosphere is great, and the bartenders are very helpful. My wife asked for a drink recommendation, and they brought her an orange crush that she enjoyed very much. All of the cocktails were top notch and super-affordable. Our tab was half of what it would be in Atlanta.

We skipped this place this other day because they weren't open and discovered a great burger place down the street. Well, according to my table-mates, the food was much better last year. The appetizer cheese fries were really tasty and delicious, we all chowed down on those. However, our meals were not as good. It could be that the pudding was overcooked (a little on the burnt side). The roast beef was very grisly and unfortunately dry too. I"m hoping the gravy was homemade, but I'm not sure. The flavor and seasonings were not what you would expect from a fresh homemade roast. The restaurant itself is very nice, clean and big. If I just wanted to get a good beer and appetizers while I hang out with friends, I would definitely choose this place. Maybe I would try something else if I came back again. The server was great, and brought us never ending glasses of sweet tea, no complaints there.

The best part about Churchill's is the rooftop seating. The food is decent, the drinks are overpriced (as most restaurants are) and the service is good. I enjoy it every now and then for a casual experience on a nice evening.

  • Joshua T.

I know a lot of my friends would disagree on this one, but I really think this is an excellent pub.The only real downside is the crowd. It's best to come here with your own group of friends or else you'll be sitting next to drunk yuppies, and tourists. This bar/restaurant is three stories with an amazing third floor deck with views of Johnson Square.Perfect for a sunny Savannah afternoon drink. The beer list at Churchill's is by far the best in Savannah. They have an extensive separate beer menu, and the bartenders here are pretty knowledgeable about which ones might appeal to beer drinkers with refined tastes. Not to mention the bar is beautifully designed, and for soccer fans, they have a huge screen that drops from the ceiling for the big games. Not to mention they open early for those time difference games. They even serve an English breakfast for those early morning games.

I think its a take it as it is place. I cannot speak for the dining but, I throughly enjoyed my bar experience. it was a hodge-podge of clientele...tourists, locals, college students. i felt welcome

  • Jarett S.

went to this bar first in the night. decent open bar, cool open air upstairs seating and bar. the drinks were just ok and the crown and coke was $5.50. not too bad, but i gave this place a 2 star for the fact that they use the "sure pour" liquor dispensing systems. I despise these becuase it takes all of the art out of being a bartender. Be a bartender, know your drink count and do your job. If this place didnt have that id give it 3 starts.

    (2)
  • Jessica L.

Gross, gross gross! Terrible service and the place wasn't that busy. The food was worse than the service. There are many, many great restaurants in Savannah go to them!

Newly reconstructed building in the heart of downtown Savannah complete with pool tables and a more refined atmosphere. This is a "grown-up bar" with good music in the background and reasonable drink prices.

    (4)
  • Steve B.

I've eaten here a number of times now, and I always come away very impressed. Despite what some others may have said about the service, I've never had a bad experience (sometimes the service is a guest problem, not a server problem). They probably have the best pork shank you can find, their house salad is INSANELY good, great beer/wine/liquor selection, and lots and lots of great traditional English comfort food. Nothing else to be said other than eat here!

  • Michael P.

Stopped into Churchill's for a beer during our ghost tour/pub crawl of the Historic District of Savannah. This is a large bar right on Bay St in the heart of Savannah within short walking distance of River St and many other sights. Upon arriving, we were greeted with friendly service. The beer selection left much to be desired for a major pub in this area. I'd definitely recommend a larger bottle selection and much more interesting draft selection beyond the standards. Atmosphere was ok, very loud. I'd probably stop by again on another visit to Savannah if I had a large group with me.

Ate here on vacation and loved it! Their rooftop patio/bar is a very cute place to eat - the view is not the best but the friendly staff and fun atmosphere of the porch makes up for it! Food was wonderful and prices were more affordable than most other restaurants in the area. Crab cakes and corn stew were delicious! Staff was also friendly. My only complaint is the only bathroom is in the cellar, but they do accommodate by having both stairs and an elevator.

really good food, drinks and personable staff. We got the brat bites in a puff pastry; like a pig in a blanket almost served with a mustard dipping sauce and a london like A1. Rooftop bar is cool too!

This was not my favorite place ever. It was cool that it was an english bar because I am all about fish and chips. It's smaller portions like they serve in Europe so if your ready to chow down order an appetizer. The bar lounge down stairs was pretty awesome and I heard they made a mean cocktail. I suggest going for drinks.

I really fell in love with cellar bar downstairs here. The service was great, and not hard to look at. Very friendly, very clean, very fast. I had really hoped to cancel dinner reservations elsewhere and stay here, but I was with a large group. I did get to see a lot of food delivered to a large table of Anime fans in full regalia. Looked great!! Must be back for more than drinks.

The menu looked great so we decided to give it a try for dinner.. Arrived at 9:45. Our waiter immediately informed us that we had 8 min if we wanted to order from dinner menu.. It was obvious that the staff was annoyed at our choice to order dinner. Our food was delivered pretty fast by someone who worked in the kitchen because our waiter was too busy doing side work and eating. The food was cold and tasteless. The crab cakes were bland with a lack of crabmeat. The Rosotto balls were also cold and tasteless. The best thing was the $6 pretzel! We were very disappointed!

So I have now been to Churchill's twice. The first time was horrid! Our server was lazy and missing, she got our orders wrong but was gone for so long there was no point in fixing it when she returned to our table. The second time last night was probably the best service I've had in Savannah. When I heard our corporate dinner was to be there I almost said something and I am glad I didn't. We had 1 server who worked a party of 20, she was amazing, they should have her train the others. The food was great both times so I suggest going in a larger party, maybe that is who they give good servers to.

Came to savannah from Fort Lauderdale Florida on vacation, never been here before. On our last night we decided we wanted to go to dinner downtown, somewhere different. This place definitely fit the bill. It has an old school British feel to it with the decor and the tables/chairs. We started off with the baked brie and it was surprisingly delicious with fresh pear and cranberries we then decided to get a house salad which I thought would be simple but it actually had arugula and spinach along with fresh strawberries and pecans, their house vinaigrette was also delicious. We got the steak and ale pie which came out piping hot with hints of beer with mushrooms onions and potatoes and the steak seemed like slow roasted and it was perfect size. They have good beer selection and the price is very reasonable in all avenues. Bread pudding was epic.

I did not eat here, so I don't know about the food. But the beer is very good. I love beer and I know beer. This place has a great selection of beers. I had the Hobgoblin, which is a very good English Ale.

  • Zach G.

Drinks only, on a quiet weeknight. This place is...okay. I mean, it supposed to be an English pub, but it resembles that in absolutely no way. Most beers and wines are domestic. Whisk(e)y selection is mostly Irish, Scottish or American...none of which, from what I can tell, is located in England. Music is decidedly rock. I got one local Savannah beer and one Irish whiskey. Both were served up with a smile by the friendly bartender. Total came to $12 or so...not low, not too high. The vibe of this place just...doesn't feel quite right. Fine place for a basic drink, but I don't know about much else. Service seems to be its best selling point in my experience. That being said, food wise, I've hear twice now (in my literally 4 hours in Savannah) that the pork shank is legit.

We found this pub after a shopping trip on Broughton. We got a great booth in a back room. The interior is what you would expect. Rich dark woods, dark green plaid wallpaper, a painting of Churchill above the fireplace mantel. Our server was sweet and friendly. We got their small plates. I got crab cakes with sweet corn stew. BJ got the mini meatloaf with mashed potatoes. My crab cakes were very good, but I didn't care much for the corn stew. The meatloaf with Guinness glaze was awesome. The perfect dish. For dessert, we shared and English Tea and Honey Cheesecake. It was really delicious and creamy. All in all, a great evening spot. We would visit, again.

Service was great, but I'm disappointed in the menu changes. They had the best calamari but they've taken it off the menu. I didn't eat after the waitress told me it was gone. The waitress was very sympathetic and very nice.

Churchill's is a nice pub with beautiful rooftop seating and a bar. That alone makes this place awesome. We sat on the roof, of course, to enjoy the view and weather and ordered some bloody mary's to start with. They were quite delicious. We weren't super hungry so I just got a pretzel (with the mustard and the cheese), and the pretzel was soooooo gooood. Hot, fresh, soft, and just how a pretzel should be. I preferred the cheese - the mustard was a little too much - but it is something to try.

My wife and I just got into town for a weekend getaway and were looking for a good quick dinner before heading to our hotel. Being suckers for any true English pub, we headed over to Churchills. Beautiful woodwork and ironworks downstairs w a terrace on the roof. Being a beautiful evening we opted for the terrace. Our server greeted us immediately and brought our drinks very quickly. I chose the Scottish salmon and my wife traditional fish & chips.

This was a really pleasant place to sit and eat dinner at the bar, but I was a little underwhelmed by the food. Maybe I should have had lower expectations given that I ordered some classic British cuisine. I sat at the bar and ordered the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding entree. You can't get more classic British than that. The dish was actually pretty good, but I found it a little in the skimpy side for the price. It came with two slices of roast beef, which while tender and certainly tasty, were well cooked and not on the rare side, as my preference is. The Yorkshire pudding was fine, and it came with a few roasted potato quarters and some broccoli. All in all, it was a hearty meal, but did not fill me up. The service, though, was excellent. It was pretty busy while I was there, but the bartenders managed to keep tabs on me without being overly obtrusive. I liked their beer selection, and I had a really nice local draft beer. This is a solid choice for an evening meal and drink, and I would go again to try some other options on their menu to see if I'm more satisfied than with what I ordered.

Great staff and good atmosphere! However, my husband (who's English btw) and I have been coming here for 5 years every time we visit savannah and we feel like the food has gotten more disappointing each time. Quality and authenticity doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be.

Small plates & a glass of wine was perfect after a day of sightseeing in Savannah. My crab cakes over sweet corn stew were excellent & hubby rates meatloaf over mashed potatoes 4 on a scale of 5 Service was excellent. All good Kay

Great food, cool looking place, nice selection of beer. Our waitress was curt and cantankerous but I got the Bangers & Mash and that outweighed her mood. Great British food.

Popped in here for a light dinner after a full day, it was wonderful. We started with the brie small plate and then bith had the onion soup and split an order of pretzels which were so large. And so yummy. It was the perfect end to my long vacation day. My daughter lives in savannah and says it is one of her husband's favorite restaurants. Can't wait to go back and enjoy another meal

We ate at Churchill's late on a Sunday night. The rooftop patio was beautiful and perfect for an outside dining experience. The food was very good, the Fish and Chips especially. However, the service was subpar.

We stumbled upon this place and thought we would give it a try and all I can say is WOW!!!!! My husband had the New York Strip, which was tender and cooked to perfection. I had the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, which was wonderful. For dessert we had their bread pudding and it was AWESOME!!! The service was great as well and the prices we not out of line.

I was impressed with the location of this place. We say on the roof top terrace and it was lovely. The food was pretty good. We did tapas. I loved the short ribs. My husband really liked the crab cakes. The food overall was pretty impressive, however we probably won't go again. The service was sub par, nothing about this place was that special. The prices were high, food was good, just not enough to make us want to go back. It seems the main attraction is the roof top terrace. I would have liked there to be some sort of specialty that they have. There are quite a few tapas places and Churchills certainly isn't the only British pub around. I have to say I won't be recommending this place to friends. There are better places around. I didn't find anything special about this place, just ordinary.

Churchill's Pub is located in Old Savannah and indeed does have that "Old Savannah" aura about it even though the namesake of Churchill seems hardly fitting for a pub located in a Southern town. It's basically a drinking place with a good selection of liquors and beers with a nice little lounge area conducive to pleasant conversation. One good thing about Churchill's is that though the menu is rather abbreviated, it does serve some rather decent food, especially their burgers and their calamari up until 1:00 AM.

Drunk bartender....completely drunk. Need I say more? I expect drunks in a bar, but I expect at least a little bit of professionalism from a bartender. She went on and on about another bartender she worked with and his Halloween costume. She then proceeded to lift up her shirt to show us how he hid parts of his costume in his pants....the whole thing was strange.

Came here right when I got into Savannah looking for some food. It was not memorable, but solid. Service was friendly. We sat at the bar. However, if I were to go back to Savannah, I want to check out the *adorable* roof deck bar. It was insanely hot, but on a cooler day - it would have been absolutely lovely to sit out there. There is also an (from what I'm told) awesome wine cellar - speakeasy - type bar downstairs.

Congrats, Churchill's, you get the award for the WORST drink I have ever gotten in my entire life. And I am a seasoned expert. It tasted neither like Jameson nor ginger ale. We had to practically clothesline a server to get a drink. Avoid this one!

Sooooo, I actually went to this Pub with a group of my friends and you know when a lot of women go out to eat we are going to want separate checks. These guys were so professional and handled our party of 7 with no hiccups, no excuses and really good service. It was the weekend of the Rock and Roll Marathon so we weren't expecting good food AND good service, but that's what we got. The Mac and Cheese is excellent. Loved it. The Tenderloin was reasonable and cooked to perfection. We'll be back next year and will probably eat here again!

Amazing food. No matter the price. A fancy pub grub that really hit the spot. Guinness meat loaf fantastic, herb roasted chicken heavenly. Bangers are bang on.

Churchill's has an old fashioned British pub feel. It is a good place to stop by for a beer, although the beer selection isn't large. Bar food menu is typical. I wish I could have tried the full menu. Since we walked in around 10pm the itchen was closed. Service was quick. They have a few TVs setup to watch sports and news. The bar is conveniently located near the city hall.
