I have been wanting to go here since January. My boyfriend and I went for lunch today and both got the all u can eat ribs. Everything was Great!!! When we ask for a refill for the ribs...they came back with the much smaller rib..and the second round were luke warm and my boyfriend got a plate with 3 bibs..one was missing one whole side and the second one had a bite mark out of the side of it. When we called the waiter over all he did was bring him out new ribs...that didnt make my boyfriend feel any better about having a already eaten rib in his mouth. So we called the manager "Mike" over and all he said was it was probably how the ribs were cut...and said anything else. That had to have been the worst manager call EVER in my life!!! I will Never come back here again!!!! Shame on you I know a bite mark when I see one!!!!!

When a person doesn't like eggs, he finds his breakfast options at a restaurant somewhat limiting. No, I don't want my eggs scrambled, poached, over easy, hard boiled, or sunny side up. No thank you, I do not want to try an omelet, no matter how tasty you claim it is. I would love to see more diverse choices for breakfast, but that can be said most places and I certainly won't hold it against JRs. I had hash browns. Well, more like hash off-whites or hash yellows, for they simply were not brown. Very much undercooked. I had bacon. That was pretty good, though there wasn't enough of it. I ordered an additional side, in lieu of eggs, but it never arrived. The service was otherwise attentive and pleasant for a Sunday brunch. I had pancakes. They were large, they were tasty. Not super light and fluffy, but as I said, tasty. Alas, you lose points for the syrup. Now, it may be cheaper, cleaner, and easier to buy those little plasticy containers of syrup and bring out one with an order of pancakes, but I am not impressed. I doesn't take much - I don't need seven or eight varieties of syrup, complete with low-fat/no-fat/no sugar compliments. You don't even have to heat it up for me. But I'm gonna need some sort of bottle on the table so that I can serve myself as needed and not have dry pancakes. Have you ever gotten through half a pancake and realize you don't syrup left? Isn't it horrible? It's like chewing dry bread or warm cardboard. I don't want to ration my thimble of syrup. You've served me large, tasty pancakes; don't play coy with the condiments. Not bad, but as the rating says, "Meh. I've experienced better."

I stayed nearby when I was in GA for a wedding. I loved the food here, and the service was excellent. I had the St. Louis ribs TWICE, and they were great both times. Good cole slaw and sweet potatoes too! Everyone was very, very nice and my waitresses were wonderful. I'd definitely go back!

It's just OK. I went for lunch on a Monday. Although the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was nice and clean, the food was kind of bland. The portions were too small. I expected better based on other Yelp reviews. Maybe they've stayed in business since 1983 because they serve a great breakfast, I don't know. What I do know is, J.R.'s Log House needs to step up the meat-and-three if it wants to be included in the Atlanta area Pantheon of BBQ joints.

One Breath Review...... Stop Givin' this cornbread props, you must be a Yankee if the stars are above three, shoney's on steroids, sugar in the tank, and pre- packaged condiments in the jar. 2.0000000000000000 stars Out

Im a few a blocks down the street. Great qualify of food and good portions for a reasonable price. I have ordered breakfast and ribs from this place. Breakfast platter is so much food and the ribs are delicious. I wish they had a spicy bbq sauce but its still verry good. This place would get 5 stars but you have to really yell cause its so loud when you order in driver-thru. Outisde of that, service and the food is excellent! GO to JR headed there for breakfast now and its noon

Stopped into this place today after driving by it several times in the past. There's really 4 things that dictate what good Georgia BBQ is: 1. Pulled Pork Sandwich 2. Coleslaw 3. Brunswick Stew 4. Sweet Tea If you can't get at least 3/4 of things right, you ain't really doing it. Glad to say that my pork sandwich was really good and served as it should be in Georgia, on a soft bun. Coleslaw had a good bite to it and was sweet at the same time. Brunswick stew was some of the best that I've had in awhile. Again, in Georgia, Brunswick stew should not have lima beans or potatoes or any other abomination like that in the ingredients. It's pork, beef, chicken, tomatoes, corn. End of story. Sweet tea. The only disappointment. Tea wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as it could have been. Anyone not from the South would think this is a minor detail. Wrong. Also, Chef Invisible T., relax.

When a woman's craving and laziness kick in, her significant other will suffer. Nah, I just made my loving husband go to JR to get me their tender juicy ribs, that's all. Well, I devoured that 5 pieces of ribs down to their bare bone in 5 minutes (no joke, really bare bone, perhaps I should've taken pictures to prove it, LOL) and yet I still wanted more! That's what I called St. Louis Ribs! YUMMMMMMO!

Other reviewers are right in saying that JR's is better for Breakfast than Lunch or Dinner. This place is out of the "Hickory House" heritage with a menu that is very similar and a style of BBQ that is identical - long time Atlantan's will know Hickory House. Breakfast is really good, huge quantities and unending coffee refills. BBQ is just average. But for lunch and dinner they also have a large selection of southern cooked vegetables listed on Blackboards placed around the room. They will have at least a dozen to 18 good choices from squash to turnip greens all cooked southern style (with bacon grease or fatback :-). My wife just like to get a vegetable plate. They do handle large groups well - but don't try organized groups. We tried having Church men's meetings there on Saturday mornings for a while but they were not very accommodating and interrupted one of our speakers very rudely in the middle of his presentation when they thought we were staying too long.

I love BBQ and I am always looking for a new place. I have passed this location numerous times, just not at meal time but I finally hit this area at the right time the other day and turned around to hit JR's. Unfortunately, with all the the BBQ places I have to compare to in ATL now, I simply was not impressed with their food. The flavor of their BBQ sauce simply was not to my liking. Not spicy, not honey, not hickory....I don't know what you would label it as, besides, "OK". I had their Pork Sandwich. On the side, I baked beans and coleslaw and they too were just plain "OK". I also had a sample serving of their Brunswick Stew and it was quite good, but not impressive enough for me to order a whole bowl. The service was "excellent", but just not quite good enough to push them up to 3 stars....

I went here for lunch and saw the biggest cockroach near the kitchen. Never going back - GROSS. The food was terrible, way overcooked, chicken was like sawdust.

Ok, let's be clear about this first-- JR's is NOT as good as Fox Brothers. If F b's is a 5, this place is a 4. Brunswick Stew was top notch. I had St. Louis ribs. They were good, definitely smoked, not cooked in sauce. They were served with a small cup of sauce and you didn't really need it. The missus had pulled chicken and it was also really good. As someone else said, you MUST get the beans. Damn, if it were just a baked beans meal, it would have been a 5 star review. They were frickin awesome. Someone mentioned cornbread in a review. It was, in fact, pretty good. Not killer good, pretty good. Onion rings-- also really good. Downs? Not many. JR's isn't some place you'll go to for atmosphere but then, neither is Fox Brother's or Jimmy's.

(sigh)...wanted it to be good. it was not. the sauce was....different. more like marinara for spaghetti than bbq. the ribs had not been cooked long enough, gave our jaws a workout trying to wrench them from them bones. coleslaw, green beans...tasted like standard food service fare you get in those giant cans from costco. sweet tea was bitter; not sure if its because it was old or they boiled the bags rather than boil the water and let the bags steep, either way it was not good. i have had better tea from popeye's chicken and it's cheaper. way overpriced and undelicious(if that's a word). there are other joints to try, you would be better off eating ribs from chili's...even though chili's may be cookie cutter mediocre american fare at least its consistent and edible. heed the low ratings, save your money and go elsewhere.

Ate here on an afternoon visit to Atlanta and had very tasty BBQ! Didn't try any sides, but the pit cooked bbq turkey was just right. Also, they have free wifi! This was great for me and my friends since the weather was awful and we decided to see a movie instead of driving back to Alabama... free wifi meant we could look up the times and get directions to the theater. Totally saved our afternoon! Service was very nice, too. We had to call for directions, and they were patient when explaining how to get there to us out-of-towners.

This place has and serves excellent and delicious barbecue. They are close as well as just up the road from where it is that I work. I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their food is of excellent and superb quality. The prices are not bad at all. The atmosphere has a nice country southern feel to it. Also, the staff is friendly and prompt. It is a nice family restaurant. This place is definitely worth a try. This is a good local barbecue restaurant.

Just sat myself down to the keyboard to see "what's up" with my email and the Yelp universe. Saw a post on JR's BBQ and thought,"Huh. Wife and I ate there tonight with Pastor and his wife. But I reviewed this place a coupla months ago, so let's see what everyone else has written. Doot de doot... where's my review?!! I guess I didn't write one after all. Shazzmats!" So, here's feeb Grampy's review: BBQ pork (chopped a.k.a. When i was a kid we used to come here for breakfast frequently on the weekends. Going back recently, for the first time in about 8 years, I was happy to see that it was pretty much exactly the same. Not that it's the greatest breakfast ever, but it's that same homey comfort food, with the same decor that reminds me of my grandparent's house, and those same old men reading their papers sitting at the counter up front, ha ha. I won't be back every week, or even once a month, but I will be back once or twice a year for the blueberry muffins, cat-head biscuits, and country ham.

I have been a barbecue fan as long as I can remember, and I've eaten it all over the USA. There are plenty of good places here in Atlanta - maybe not as many GREAT ones - but JRs is pretty good. The log cabin is made of real logs and gives a nice genuine rustic atmosphere, and when you get in the parking lot you can smell the smoke. They have pretty much all the standards - ribs, pulled, chopped and sliced pork, beef, chicken and even a nice light smoked turkey. They do a great fried chicken on Wednesdays for lunch, and you have to check the blackboards to find out the vegetable of the day. I'd say the St. Louis Ribs are my favorite, but I'm a sucker for the sliced pork or Edna's Gourmet Sandwich for lunch. It's a comfortable, down-home restaurant, and while the decor is well-worn, they know what they're doing generally. You can ask for inside or outside meat for the pork, and the sides aren't too bad. The fries are fairly generic but the rest are all homemade even if their green beans are in desperate need of both a. salt and b. actual flavor. Mac and cheese isn't bad - better than some - but the meat makes the meal (as it should). The sauce - of which they have one variety! - is a thick, tomato-based one that's a little spicy and a little sweet, and is really good with the smoky flavor of the meat. They serve garlic bread or sweet cornbread (my favorite) with the platters for lunch and dinner. If you go for breakfast - make sure you order the HUGE pancakes and biscuits - you won't be disappointed. They also serve a killer side of thick-cut bacon, and the hash browns are superb as well. If you get up late, they serve breakfast on the weekends until 2pm!! It's a good place for lunch and breakfast, but if you want supper, go early - they close at 9 during the week and they'll run out of a lot of stuff before then; also if you get stuff to go CHECK YOUR FOOD before you leave - it'll save you some headaches later, trust me. Check them out - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Wanted to see what Georgia BBQ was about so went there with my wife last Friday while we were in the area for Petit Le Mans. The inside is fairly large, which initially caused some concern because only a handful of booths were occupied at 6PM on a Friday night. We were seated quickly and the service was right on the mark--she was never away too long, nor was she interrupting us too much. She knew the menu items well and was glad to offer suggestions. Very pleased with the service. My wife and I both got two-meat combo plates in order to try as many different items as possible. Between us we tried the chopped beef, chicken, chopped turkey and St. Louis ribs. In general everything had a light smokey flavor, nowhere near as strong as at, say, Famous Dave's. The barbeque sauce was very different than we would have expected; it reminded me of a tomato-y baked bean sauce. Worked great with the food, though. We liked the beef and chicken the best, followed by the turkey and finally the St. Louis ribs. The ribs just didn't do it for us, a bit too dry and flavorless. Then again, the place we go for ribs in Chicago has an incredibly tangy sauce so our expectations were different. Sides were good; I had BBQ beans and brunswick stew. Both were good; I never had brunswick stew before but I liked it. Best I could describe it is like chili, heavy on the tomato but no chili powder or cumin. Different & good!

J.R.'s is a great bbq joint. It isn't as hardcore about the bbq as Maddy's, Fat Matt's or Daddy D's but it has a few special things that set it apart from the rest. 1) They have a plethora of sides, standard (on menu) and daily varieties listed on the chalkboard. 2) They have seriously good cornbread. It's lightly sweet and holds itself together, delicately crisp on top and not crumbly. 3) The Banana Pudding rocks. 4) They have free Wi-Fi. Plus, with salad and some other veggie as a side, as opposed to chips or potato salad at other bbq joints, I feel like it's a little healthier satisfying my bbq caving here. ;)

Im a die hard BBQ fan, I do compete and judge as well in my free time. Im going to say the BBQ Sandwhich was somewhere near the McRibb. While it was fair pork, very light on sauce, and the sandwhiches were mass produced this morning and had been flattened by noon, yet the meat really didn't have much flavor. The baked beans were pretty dang good. Ambieance was pretty nice. However having the attempt at BBQ, and hearing how good the breakfasts are perhaps a name change to JR's Breakfast House.

Disclaimer - I've lived in New England for the past 4 years, so when I come home and eat southern food for the first time in months it might seem better than it actually is. That being said, the country breakfast/brunch here is AMAZING! Bacon, eggs over medium, biscuit with white gravy and a blueberry muffin (for breakfast "dessert"), and then wash it down with a huge glass of sweet tea, mmm MMM! For regular barbeque lunch and dinner I'd probably give it just 4 stars, but the breakfast definitely puts it in the 5 star region for me. Also, where else can you eat in a log cabin? I mean seriously.

Best bbq sauce I have had anywhere....and I have had them all. Chopped Pork is really good. Ribs can be hit or miss. Mostly miss. Salads are really good. Some of the best homeade ranch dressing I have had. Breakfast is really good too. I always get the country ham with eggs and blueberry muffins. Cheese grits are just O.K. Nothing compared to scratch or Biscuits and more. Banana pudding is the best I have had and sweet tea is always just right.

Very good BBQ. Menu is relatively simple execpt for the sides which they have standards on the menu plus extras on the chalkboard in the dining room. Customer service was good, nothing outstanding, but not bad either. Ribs were execelent and where else can a girl go and get a way with an order for Meaty Loins? Service was fast, our group of six was in and out in a little over an hour. I would definetly recommend if you are looking for good BBQ.

Went to JR's on Sunday morning. It was crowded but not too bad. We were seated in about 5 minutes. We just beat the church crowd. Our server was super friendly, fast and attentive. The breakfast was awesome and not overly priced. Great country breakfast, we'll be back!

Great breakfast, love the bacon and they might have the best biscuts in town. However, the bbq is below average. If your looking for a good old fashion country breakfast, J Rs is the place. Try the pancakes.

Tasty. Good value. BBQ beans are a must. Ribs come by the pound, not by the rack. No problem just the first time I've seen that. Turkey has good flavor. No brisket on the menu.

  • Amith G.

They have no tap! Prices are relatively cheap. I went with a group and tried items from all their plates. Their all-you-can-eat ribs are not that good but I am not a huge ribs fan anyway. White beans are not so good either. Catfish is incredibly salty (even for catfish). The pork-and-beans was actually very good. They have all the usual BBQ joint stuff. Could not really see anything special for a smokehouse.

Not worth going to for lunch. Don't be fooled by the busy parkinglot, this place is sorry. I ordered the meat and 2 sides, brisket mac and cheese and fried okra. I don't know what they brought to the table but it wasn't any type of brisket that I have ever seen-think freeze dried dog treat slabs. I pushed the plate to the edge of the table signaling that I wasn't going to eat it, at least 4 waitresses walked by looked at the plate and looked at me??? after at least 20 min. my waitress came back to the table and I told her it was horrible so she offered to bring me the chopped beef, well it was doused in some tangy sauce that was nasty and grease filled, I fed it to my dogs. The sides and cornbread were passable, no offer of tea refill, a different waitress got me a togo container for the ridiculously overpriced "beef" 9.81 for a meat and 2 sides and a cup of tea? Nope I won't be back, l may try the breakfast but it will be strictly drive through. Stay away.

This is a barbecue house that serves a solid breakfast seven days a week. It's good food, large servings and it's reasonably priced. Lunch is not quite up to breakfast, in our experience, but it's still close to three stars. About that breakfast: homemade biscuits, pancakes the size of your car's hood, crispy bacon cooked just right (and lean, too), eggs scrambled nicely with some cheese, and tasty gravy for those biscuits. We'd give them a five-star breakfast if they had some real butter and maple syrup. By the way, they brew some very good coffee, too. They serve 7-11 Monday-Friday and until 2 p.m. on weekends. The lunch is, as we said, not quite up to that, but still good, especially the fried catfish, not too greasy and plenty moist inside. "Wish I had a nickel for every catfish we've sold, this being a barbecue restaurant," said our waitress at a recent visit. The barbecue sandwich is yummy, though we'd prefer it with a bit spicier sauce. The sides are delicious and plentiful: sweet potatoes, cole slaw, a slightly-sweet Brunswick stew (served with crumbly, melt-in-your-mouth cornbread. Lunch prices in the range of $6 for soup/salad to $12.50 for ribs (which we haven't tried yet; we're still spoiled by Rendezvous in Memphis) and about $5-8 per person for breakfast. You can also get dinner here. There's usually a pretty good crowd, but everything moves quickly. If you're in the neighborhood, this is well worth a visit. We go back regularly, especially for that breakfast.

Just had lunch here today - I ordered the sandwich combo and chose the chopped pork, Brunswick stew and cole slaw. I also ordered a side of smoked sausage. Chopped pork sandwich was tasty but not overly smoked. Brunswick stew was VERY good as was the slaw. The smoked sausage was mouth watering! The BBQ sauce that came with the sausage was ok, nothing special but still good. The service was fast and friendly. Next time I'm in the Atlanta area, I will try J.R.'s for breakfast.

  • Lee S.

Well as awesome as breakfast is at this place, my expectations were high for lunch. Sadly, I was a little disappointed, don't get me wrong the food was good, but overall I expected a better smokehouse taste out of the pulled pork. The sides were simply "ok" as well. I will say though, that the Brunswick Stew was fantastic!! However, I just don't think a stew should outshine your BBQ, especially when that's what you are supposed to do best.

JRs BBQ is a darn fine breakfast restaurant, very Cracker Barrel-like with a local flair. The smoky aroma from the day's BBQ hits you as you walk in and instantly makes you hungry. We had the sausage gravy biscuit, the Country Benedict (ham & eggs on a biscuit, slathered in sausage gravy), hash browns and a hotcake. All were 'wins', and the hotcake was HUGE. Good coffee too. Excellent breakfast choice. Gonna try this place for dinner soon.

Went there yesterday. Nothing to brag about - asked for the biggest burger since I was famished and got a small Mc Donald's style bread with a few fries. The service is very good, at least to me, but the food is below average. The place itself has good ambience but would not go again.

Has an off putting smell when you first walk in. Too noisy Staff ....well they're confused or upset- a lot of mixed emotions there. Food is decent- nothing bad just not the absolute best. Looks run down and not as clean. Meh- there's a good chance I will never go back or suggest it.

This use to be my families go to place to eat after church on Sunday's and it had been years since I had been back. Recently I ate breakfast here with a friend and it was delicious with plenty of food, too much for us to finish. But really made the whole thing was the absolutely nicest waitress! She really made the whole meal so pleasant. I only wish I could remember her name so I could give her even more praise!

Good place. Good service, good food. Looks like a big log cabin from the outside and pretty much feels that way on the inside. All the workers were friendly. My girlfriend and I came here for lunch, it's a Wednesday and we got here probably around 3ish. Not too many other tables. My girlfriend got the buffalo chicken quesadilla, and I got the one meat(I got smoked turkey) and 2 veggie(I got cream corn and fried okra), both about $9. All the food was really good, but her quesadilla could have used more buffalo sauce. We got our food pretty quick which is always nice, but again we were one of maybe 3 or 4 other tables. Good experience overall, definitely will be back.

JR's has been serving breakfast and BBQ since 1983. If I could separate stars, I would give breakfast 4 stars and lunch/dinner 2 stars. Breakfast: You'll find traditional southern options for breakfast including pancakes, grits, eggs, biscuits & gravy, bacon, sausage, and even streak-o-lean. The pancakes are huge and delicious (5), biscuits and gravy are good but mine were cold (4), scrambled eggs are scrambled light (4), grits are average (3), and bacon and sausage are great (5). The prices are very reasonable too. Dinner: They are proud of their Brunswick stew but I didn't think it was that good compared to what most BBQ restaurants are serving these days. The pulled BBQ sandwich was one of the most disappointing BBQ sandwiches that I've had in recent memory. The mac and cheese tasted like box Mac and cheese. Service: The servers are sweet and do a good job. Overall: It's a good breakfast option in the area, but don't waste your time for lunch or dinner.

I came here on a weeknight with a group of 6, and the place was pretty empty. But from the reviews and from what my friends say that have been here is that it is a place people come for breakfast. Maybe that's why it was a bit quiet? I ordered the St. Louis ribs (half rack) that came with two sides and my choice of bread or cornbread. For my sides, I got Brunswick stew which is great for dipping my cornbread in, and turnip greens. Unfortunately, I didn't realize collard greens and turnip greens are different things, so I actually didn't like the flavor or turnip greens as much as I expected. If I could have replaced my side, I would have gotten Mac n cheese instead. It wasn't anything out of this world, but it was good for Mac n cheese. Overall, very standard BBQ options, but it wasn't anything mind blowing. I might come back again for breakfast sometime.

You really have to be careful and know what to order here. You can wind up with a real stinker or something delicious. The brunswick stew is great, but since this dish varies by region and restaurant you may like it more or less than I did. The BBQ is terrible. I don't care where you're from or what style you like, this is the worst. Garlic bread - yes. Some veggies are good, some others not so good. You might have to try several things before you find something you like.

Having to drive by this place twice a day finally had to check it out and will get straight to the point, b.b.q. chicken is yummy get the sauce on the side & add it as you need it. The smoked turkey is tender and had it as a sandwich it was quickly "gobbled" down before a picture could be taken and if you are in the mood for ribs two kinds are offered. All you can eat ribs can be had for $13.99 and will be served until thirty minutes before closing. Sides, if can't decide which one ya want they may even give you a "taste" if ya ask? Collards are good and if you like onion rings (yup) they have the shoestring kind and an order of theses is big enough to share. Broccoli rice casserole is meh, gravy for the rice is a pass, Breakfast - So far have had an omelet plate you get to choose grits or sausage and gravy and comes with a biscuit and blueberry muffin (square). I have been told "almost everything is homemade" and seriously want to know more about the "biscuit recipe" because they're friggin great. Breakfast stops at 2:00 pm sharp no exceptions. Portions are big enough that you won't leave hungry in the a.m. or p.m. friendliness of service can go a bit back and forth. I will continue to update as needed.

My wife woke me up this morning and said lets try out this resturant / BBQ place we pass going home all the time, so I said sure. Huge mistake. Worst food ever, so bad that when we left my wife asked me to drive to the nearest gas station so she could vomit the poison she just ate. I unfortunately decided to keep digesting it and that was even a worst mistake. I experienced heartburn and nauseous feeling for 4 to 6 hours had to stop at cvs to get medication to help me get over the bloating nasty feeling I got from this disgusting place. Please note I have nothing to gain by criticizing this place other then being very pissed off for ruining my Sunday with my wife so don't let anyone get on here and bullshit you that I am an ex employee or disgruntled person because I am not just a person warning people to stay away from this disaster of a resturant. That's all I got, and yes I am pissed off because I expected a good meal and got poisoned instead.

I think this place is going downhill. Have not been impressed tonight and the time before. Ordered chopped pork combo plate tonight, but got sliced. Not a huge deal, I guess, but it was also dry. The mac was good, though. The time before I ate there, was for breakfast. That was an adventure. The scrambled eggs were barely warm. Sent them back. The ones I got were no warmer! I was going to mention it again, but I figured what's the use? Maybe they keep a bunch of cheese eggs in a steam tray for just these times, but, if so, it's too low. Anyway, the pancakes were great. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon . It used to be decent.

Always good. I just went for my free birthday meal. If you sign up for email (which I have only gotten around my birthday), you get a free dinner entrée! Even a full rack of ribs w/ 2 sides!! You can't beat that!!! There's always a good assortment of good southern sides. The brunswick stew is always a winner. If you want a solid, consistent, filling meal, give JR's a try!

The food here is not terrible, but not exactly the best either. I had ordered their Saint Louis Style Ribs with French fries and baked beans. I just want to say first off, the ribs are greasy and just a little bit dry. The French fries seem to be of the frozen boxed variety and not of the fresh cut freshly fried variety. Their bread is also surprisingly good, it is nice and soft and flavored with the perfect amount of butter and garlic. Surprisingly, the baked beans were delicious, although I am not a real big fan of having so much bits of shredded beef inside of my baked beans. Their BBQ sauce that they provide, is truly nothing to brag or write home about. Their BBQ sauce is alright. It does have little chunks mixed in it. The service overall is excellent. The atmosphere has a real true country southern feel to it. I do think that it is cute how the restaurant itself is a real wooden log house. This is most likely the last place I would go to for BBQ ribs. This place is also close to where I work.

Company lunch. Had the at Louis spare ribs w/ steak fries and cole slaw. My drink of choice was Arnold palmer( I had better) The food was really really good. The service was forgettable. Food was brought out promptly and hot. The corn bread was fresh. I would return and try something different including a different server for sure. Only three stars for the less than desirable service.

Went here for an early dinner since I had been craving ribs for days. I was highly disappointed the ribs were dry & burned, the corn on the cob was soggy & the Mac & cheese tasted like they poured cheese on noodles. Considering this is a southern bbq place these foods shouldn't have been soo bad!!!

Great people, great atmosphere, and great food. I love breakfast is served till 2 on Saturdays and Sundays. I recommend this to anyone in the Norcross area , and outside the Norcross area as well. The sliced beef plate and mac and cheese is off the chain.

I am in from out of town got dinner on Thursday night. Fried catfish dinner was great. Went for breakfast Friday morning. Server obviously did not want to be there. When she brought my check did not ask if I wanted more coffee. Even though my cup is almost empty. I had the country fried steak. The meat portion was small compared to anywhere else I have bought this.

I decided to try this place out for breakfast since I had read so many great reviews online. I had a pancake, which was huge, an order of scrambled eggs, and sliced beef. I enjoyed everything but the beef seemed a little dry. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and very helpful in explaining the menu and made recommendations to help us navigate through. The price wasn't bad either. Considering what I ordered, my meal totaled $13 and was well worth it in my opinion. I would definitely try them again in the near future.

BREAKFAST REVIEW!!! They serve more than just BBQ. THE SCENE ------------- - - - - - My sweetheart was feeling under the weather today. So after a visit to the chiropractor for some tension relieving adjustments, I decided to treat her to a quiet breakfast @ JR's. JR's Log House was opened in May of 1983 with recipes handed down from grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. The structure looks, feels and smells authentic, like you are sitting in an Omish dining hall built in the 1850's. There is a musty odor in the air like you find in old log cabins and other old wooden homes. The lighting and furniture look hand crafted and the window treatments are what you might find in your grandmothers mother's kitchen. THE DETAILS ------------ - - - - - - Date & Time: Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 @ 9:00am Dining Companions: My forever +1 What to expect: Simple decor, friendly service Liquid: Coke ($1.75) *Note: cups are huge too! Ordered: Hector's Omelette ($8.25), Hotcake ($3.50) & Hash Brown's ($2.25) Dislikes: None Absolutely Loved: everything... especially the hotcake Total: $16.70 FOOD/SERVICE ------------- - - - - - Service today was from Greenville native Miranda, who was more like one of our friends by the time our meal was done. But that's the way it is here every time I've visited in the past. Many of the employees have been around for 15 to 20 years or more. I'm always looking for the best food experience, so Miranda guided me through the more popular choices as well as her fav's. I settled on the Hector's "Everything" omelette, but opted for sausage to be substituted in lieu of the sugar cured ham that normally comes with this dish. I'm so glad I did! I love tasty sausage it was exactly what I was hoping for in terms of flavor. The egg was thin like a crepe, but perfectly cooked and stuffed with the sausage, onions, green peppers, mushrooms and cheese inside. DELICIOUS! We shared this hearty breakfast omelette (my wife gave me the sausage bits) along with toast, cheese grits, a complimentary blueberry muffin and ginormous cat head biscuit. We also ordered a side of perfectly golden hash browns (shredded) and a redonkulously large hotcake. I baulked at the $3.50 hotcake price to our server, that is, until it arrived. Geez this thing was huge! For the longest time I have loved IHOP pancakes, but this hotcake has quickly become one of my favorite ever! Next time I'm craving hotcakes, I'm sure I'll be driving here to satisfy my fix. THE VERDICT ------------- - - - - - In a nutshell, this is the simple style of hearty breakfast food that I love. It's great to find places that have amazing decor and fancy twists on breakfast classics, but if you're looking for the basics done well without a lot of fanfare at reasonable prices... JR's is your spot.

This place is okay. I had to country Benedict and it was more sausage gravy than eggs or ham. My mom got half pork salad and it looked like a side dish. My dad got the half ribs and said the potato salad was not great

This review is based solely on their breakfast selection, but sadly the breakfast does not make me want to try their BBQ. Their breakfast was rather weak. My eggs were real eggs but they were runny scrambled eggs, selection of breakfast meat was nice as well nothing to complain about there. The blueberry cornbread muffin block was also pretty decent but overall I think their breakfast was overpriced for the mediocre breakfast they serve.

Wifey and I had lunch here recently. With our new healthy lifestyle...this was quite a departure! JR's is a quaint and VERY southern restaurant. They have Barbecue and other southern meals. Wifey had the pork barbecue sandwich. It was good, not great...but tasty. The french fries she got with it were standard steak fries...nothing great, nothing bad. I got the barbecue turkey sandwich. The turkey...well...it was ok...a bit dry, but with a touch of BBQ sauce, it was ok. I had the red beans and rice with it...and the red beans were a bit overcooked...while the rice, a bit undercooked. Service was good. All in all...a typical southern meat and veggie type place...

  • Kurt Z.

The service was fantastic all the way around. The barbecue baked beans were the best I've ever had. The bbq sauce for the ribs was also very good, but the ribs themselves were very fatty and not a lot of meat. Because of the service, I'll come back and try something other than the ribs.

Went here on lunch with my Co Workers yesterday and I must say this is one of the best BBQ spots in Norcross. They will get my business again. I recommend trying the BBQ beans and the pulled pork and cornbread.

Now that they closed the Dunwoody Hickory House, I am so thankful that this old style country breakfast place is still around. A good breakfast at a comfortable place with a live waitress is hard to find. Sort of like Cracker Barrell without the gift shop. I like the fact that it's rustic and not shining modern. I like the sausage links there too. Real down home.

  • Kent K.

Without a doubt the best bbq in Norcross. The restaurant itself is warm, cozy, inviting and spotlessly clean!. The staff is super friendly, professional and efficient. We had the bbq chicken sandwich, the bbq pork sandwich, baked beans and Brunswick stew. The chicken was a bit on the dry side but the pork was fantastic. Brunswick stew is very close to being the best we have tasted and the beans are full of meat and nicely seasoned - not too sweet. We will definitely go back for more! Can't wait to try their breakfast!

In town on business from California. Reviews made me skeptical but it was close to my hotel so I decided to go for it. No regrets..great choices and sides..I did the half rack of St Louis ribs...MEATY and smokey... Some reviews on the sauce put it down, say it was weird...and it's true it is ... different...I just mixed a little more sugar into it and it was bomb... Got the sweet potato as a side it was HUGE...served with real butter.. Agree the corn bread was dry...so only took a bite and who needs the carbs anyway.. The best part was the service..super friendly and fast...a great "take your chances" dinning surprise...will always stop in when I am town in the future...looking forward to trying other sides and their deserts was just too full from that HUGE sweet potato ;)

My family and i went looking for breakfast just before 12pm, so we stopped in here, but they had already stop serving breakfast :( but they made us coffee:) so the staff were friendly and took good care of us to make sure we were comfortable. We had the ribs, sausages, pulled chicken sandwich and some other stuff i cant remembered:( . It's a simple spot where you go a just grab a bite. Nothing really too fancy, you just felt comfortable eating in your home they way they treated us and the whole envirnment so i like this place for that and coming from NY it was warming to feel like that somewhere else, but the food was good but not the best.

I ordered a BBQ plate and was very happy with my portion size. The spare ribs had enough meat on them to satisfy my hunger and not to much fat. The onion rings had to much salt and they didn't seem fresh out the grease . It's worth a visit if your are craving some BBQ.

Went here for the southern BBQ. Great atmosphere. Friend recommended the Brunswick stew. Amazing. BBQ was dried out. Brisket and ribs. Not stealer. maybe I'm used to something fresh cooked off a smoker. Peach cobbler, No it turned out that the chalkboard was wrong, they had that for lunch. Had the Apple cobbler. Straight out of a can.

Total RIP OFF! The place needs a makeover! STUCK IN THE 70s! The FOOD WAS BLAND & THE BBQ SAUCE, was nothing but Ketchup with chucks. Nothing is homemade everything came from the can or box. MAC & CHEESE SUCKED- GREENS SUCKED-OKRA WAS OK- ONIONS RINGS WERE NOTHIG BUT ONION STAWS, THEY WERE OK HOT! CORN BREAD WAS VERY VERY VEY DRY, I now understand why everyone was eating the french bread. COLESLAW WAS GOOD (shocker)-- We had gotten the all you can eat ribs. They were not good at all and to top that we didn't get any more because they are trYing to lower there food cost. There was an issue trying to get a to go box. But we were able to get that and get the ck reduced. I took the ribs home and put my own touch to it. SEASONINGS & SOME KRAFT HONEY BBQ SAUCE DID JUSTICE! -- also most of the people in the restaurant were caucasian so you know the taste buds are DIfferent than african americans. and the CHEF is Hispanic -_- that does make a difference. NOT SOUL FOOD OR BBQ AT ALL! WILL NEVER RETURN!

This is a family tradition to have Sunday breakfast here when we are all in town visiting. And if I'm lucky, we time it for me to have the first plate of ribs of the day while everyone else has some yummy breakfast.

  • Donna S.

Very disappointed. Ribs were very dry, no baked potatoes, server seemed inexperienced, although fairly friendly, but did not check back to see if we needed anything, especially napkins! In their defense, it was about 7:30 PM, so maybe it was too late for fresh ribs, but I would think they should always be fresh! Not sure if we'll go back, but maybe we'll give them a second chance, but much earlier!

I've passed this place a zillion times & last Sat I finally decided to try it. I was starving & didn't feel like dining inside so I went through the drive thru. The Lady at the window was super nice & helpful. She recognized that it was my first time by the questions I asked: "Do you smoke your meat? How many sauces do you have? Where is the collard greens?" The food was just okay. My meat was lukewarm but the house bbq sauce made it better. The Mac & cheese was tasty and I was surprised to taste the raisins in the sweet potato soufflé. I probably will not be back for lunch/dinner but I want to try breakfast. I don't know many that mess up a country breakfast.

  • Robb S.

This is the place for a true Southern Country breakfast. We go here every Sunday after church and have NEVER been disappointed. Eggs any way you want them, any type of meat you want from bacon to BBQ (yes for breakfast), biscuits the size of cat heads and pancakes the size of a dinner plate. I have eaten everything on the menu and there's nothing I wouldn't recommend.

I gave this 5 stars because I really cant think of anything that wasn't perfect. I had the "everything omelette". I love veggies and they were happy to throw in more at my request. You can tell the vegetables are fresh which is awesome. My waitress was very friendly and quick with everything. Yum!

Something or someone has changed. I can't tell if it's me or them. I used to come here almost every week when I worked down the street and I remember it being amazing. Like, the best ever. Flash forward a few years and I came here for lunch the other day. It's still good, but it's not all that, especially compared to Dreamland BBQ. After doing a direct comparison I think I like them better. JR's is a lot more affordable and I definitely appreciate that. I love their sauces too. I might need to stop by for breakfast again. The other stuff was kind of fuzzy. Breakfast, however, was always great.

    (3)
  • Lee M.

I hate to give JR's three stars, I really do. As often as I eat here it should be at least four. But if I'm honest it's really only three. That said, I feel like JR's is the ugly girl with a good personality. You're not going to dream about it, but it's nice to spend some time with. First, go for breakfast or lunch during the week. The regular menu is a little overpriced, but the lunch specials are very affordable. The service is usually brusque. The servers always seem impatient for some reason. It never quite crosses the line into rudeness, but it's not a plus on the rating. The food is acceptable. It's the type of stuff my grandparents really love. Vegetables seem to be mostly canned or frozen and overcooked, but well seasoned and edible. The two things I think are particularly good are the onion rings and brunswick stew. The barbeque is not going to win any awards. It's a very crowd pleasing 'cue. The sauce is very plain, a little sweet, not too spicy, vinegary, or unusual. The other meat options are equally average. I usually get a sliced turkey sandwich with onion rings and stew. You won't be dissapointed, but you won't be blown away. Breakfast is better than lunch, very similar to a Cracker Barrel. Plus they serve streak-o-lean. Who serves streak-o-lean in the 21st century? If you don't know what streak-o-lean is, it's like bacon without all the healthy stuff. Pretty much just crispy salty fat. Yum!

I am writing this based solely on the food as my husband brought it home for me for dinner last night. I had the BBQ Sandwich Plate(pork) with fried okra and coleslaw. All of the food was, in my opinion, just okay - nothing to write home about. The sandwich wasn't the greatest I've had, but it definitely wasn't bad! The okra was over-fried and a lot of it couldn't be eaten. The coleslaw isn't the best I've had. It wasn't bad, but a bit watery for my liking. I probably won't request food from here again, there's better southern cookin' to be had elsewhere.

The company I work for had them cater a luncheon. I was working from home that day so I missed it. A month or so later I decided to go there for some ribs. I purchased the St. Louis style rib dinner plate. I don't care too much about the sides. They aren't a huge selling point in a barbecue restaurant; the meat is. I got the food to go and couldn't wait to get back to my office so I could dig in. I opened the container, looked at the ribs and immediately knew they weren't going to taste good. They were luke warm and bland looking. They didn't have a smokey smell to them. I'm thinking they parboilded the ribs due to the lack luster taste. They didn't even pull off the membrane. I've seen this kind of ribs before over at "This is it Barbecue and Seafood" restaurant in Smyrna, GA. They should remove ribs from their meun. It's hard to believe this is the quality of food they've been doing since 1983. Around 30 years of putting out subpar ribs. I wanted to get back and get a refund but I had other things to do. I can't wait until Dreamland BBQ is rebuilt!

Another one of those places that I visit for some specific dishes - here the Brunswick stew is exceptional - one of the best I've had - thick, slightly sweet with huge chunks of recognizable smoked meats. The other thing I buy here are the ribs - the meaty loin can be gotten as "all you can eat" - just make sure you have the time to really enjoy them as they close at 8:30 - yeah I know, crazy huh? One of the reasons the ribs are so tasty is due to the homemade sauce - it's not your typical fare - comes in a small bowl (shouldn't it always?) heated with pieces of tomato and on the tangy side. I also have tried many of the other sides and they have a whole chaukboard full of them (none are exceptional), but really go here for the ribs and stew (feeling glutinous, I usually get the ribs and a double order of stew). I've tried the pulled pork and it's not my style - it's mixed with a bit of sauce and I've never liked that, rather it were dry and dressed by me at the table. The building is log cabin style - really, with exposed rafters and rough wood everywhere. The bbq is open pit and really smokey, if you're not a fan of that style go elsewhere - the staff is friendly but go early - as the evening goes on things slow down a bit. I used to make this a regular stop, I've since slowed down a bit as I always over-eat.

BBQ sauce is weird chunky ketchup, corn bread is super dry, Mac & Cheese was mediocre. Coleslaw was good. Friendly staff. Wish the food was better:(

Stopped at this place today after seeing it many times. I ended up getting the two meat combo which consisted of Loin ribs and bone in chicken with baked beans and mac & cheese. The service was very friendly and the food was decent overall. The bbq chicken was good, however the ribs were quite tough. The mac & cheese was more mac than cheese with no real flavor, and the baked beans were not really baked more like pork & beans. If somebody was to go there I would recommend the chicken and I heard the sausage was good. I am going to try it again to see if I get the same results, but I am not looking forward to it.

I always forget about this place being a good breakfast option even though I drive by it almost every day. I'd been here a couple times for dinner, a long time ago. I went last wknd for breakfast, for the first time. I also noticed for the first time they have a drive-through ... note to self when I'm having a sausage biscuit craving :) I ordered the "Breakfast Platter" with 1 egg (scrambled), fried chicken filet (like Chick-fil-A except with less flavor) & sausage gravy (except they forgot the gravy ... I forgot I was supposed to get it until I re-read the menu just now). All platters also come w/ biscuit (yum), blueberry muffin (also yum), and a choice of grits, sausage gravy, or oatmeal. I got oatmeal to help lower the cholesterol raised by the eggs and fried chicken :) Actually I'm glad I got the oatmeal ... mostly b/c it also came w/ raisins and lots of brown sugar (yum). All this for $7.75. The breakfast platter is a lot of food - I couldn't finish everything. I like too that if you're a health nut, you do have options here. For example, you could get a "healthy" version of what I ordered (described above): egg whites (vs. egg), broiled chicken (vs. fried), wheat or rye toast (vs. blueberry muffin), and of course the oatmeal (and maybe even ask them to hold the raisins & brown sugar - haha). The place is kid-friendly, too. Kids under 5 can get free hot cakes, plus they have coloring sheets and crayons to keep them entertained. My friend comes with her young daughter all the time. I'll have to remember to keep this top-of-mind when someone asks for breakfast options.

LOVE their brunswick stew. When I come for lunch, I always order the chopped chicken BBQ sandwich and a cup of brunswick stew. So good! Love that they have a drive through too!

  • Terry V.

I had the smoked sausage for lunch, all I can say is terrible. Slicing a sausage and throwing it on the grill to get marks does not make smoked sausage. It did not taste like it was smoked, and the sauce tasted more like tomato than anything. I had the fried okra for a side and it was very bland. If a barbecue place can't do fried okra, they need to take it off the menu. The other side, tell you the truth, I can't remember, so it must not have impressed me, or left me with a bad thought like the smoked sausage and okra. This really has to be the worst barbecue I have ever had.

Great country breakfast!!! Tons of food, tons of choices! Great atmosphere, and try to get Damien as your waiter. I've had most everything on the menu for breakfast, and I've been there a few times for dinner. Breakfast is much better, in my opinion. On a side note... Matt Stafford (Detroit Lions/UGA) walked right past us this morning, and we were too involved in our breakfast to even notice! Damien has to tell us! lol

Its so sad a far this place has fallen from grace! In 2006, my husband and I ate here all the time. Its actually where he proposed! The BBQ used to be awesome and the sides had the best home cooked flavor you can imagine. Now, almost everything tastes like it was frozen or came out of a can. The BBQ ribs taste boiled and broiled, with a God-awful tomato based barbeque sauce on the side. They used to have multiple bottles of sauce to choose from. I can't express how disappointed I am with the quality of food. Please save your bucks and try a better, fresher BBQ joint!

I've been holding out on reviewing this place because over the 25+ years I have dined here I've experienced many good meals as well as enough disappointing ones to give me pause in recommending the place to others. I've had good service as well as rude, and unthoughtful ("we're closing in 10 minutes, how fast can you get here?"...on a phoned in takeout order....more than one time). I'm going to base this review on my most recent experiences. One of the best breakfasts around (country or otherwise). Available until 2 PM on weekends! Perfect eggs, real southern biscuits and wonderful plate-sized pancakes (which would be even better with real maple syrup....unrealized upsale opportunity there). No real butter anywhere (I'd pay a bit extra for that too). The BBQ is good. Loin Ribs are meaty, and with good bark. Chopped/pulled pork is also good, but truthfully there are a few better options around. Still worth a try. My culinary-degreed spouse loves their sliced pork. Generous portions top to bottom. All you can eat dine-in option for St Louis ribs too. The fries are steak fries, and they're good. Great BBQ beans. Great onion "rings" (actually strings). In all honesty, I'm not the person to ask about Brunswick stew. Good house-made banana pudding and cobblers. Egg Beaters are also available @ breakfast (nice option).. Their bread has been lousy since day one. Good, rich sauce with meat trimmings (unfortunately no kick). The vegetable sides too often taste canned, Service at counter and dining room can be maddingly inconsistent at times, but NOTICEABLY improved in recent months which is why I am finally ending my silence. Final verdict: Keep on, keepin' on JR's!

Absolute must for breakfast!! I come here every Sunday for breakfast and it is great. Fresh, made from scratch biscuits just like Grandma used to make :) Sausage gravy is mouth watering too. Delicious country breakfast. Always a treat

I usually only go here for breakfast because it's so close to work. Best pancakes in Atlanta. I've eaten at a lot of pancake houses in Atalanta and I had to go to a BBQ joint to get good pancakes. It's not just the flavor, it's the texture of the cake. I've been going here for four years now and have not been disappointed yet. Just good eats!

Ok, BBQ is sort of my thing. To make this simple, the good thing about JR's is the stew. If you come here make sure you get the stew, and make sure you don't get the ribs. That's pretty much all you need to know, but I'll go into a little more detail below. I will give this place props because its good for big groups. We came here with about 8 people and there were several very large tables to easily accommodate us. The wait staff was also very friendly and did a great job of refilling all of our drinks. That reminds me, the sweet tea met the standard too. We tried the ribs and they were awful, sorry but they were. Tough, not much meat, I didn't eat more than one. The one thing I finished on my plate was the stew. This would be the place to go if you're in the mood for some tasty and hearty Brunswick stew. The whole log cabin vibe is kind of fun too. and they had a huge flat screen TV for me to watch as I waited on my guests. Two reasons to come: Stew and huge TVs. Yelp 365 :: 7/365
