[I am going to temporarily breach a contract with myself to truncate my reviews --- this place deserves a proper introduction and historical briefing.] Pros: This is about as authentic, old school deep south as it gets. The place is located on the side of a building, and there is no sign (even once you reach the screen door entrance) to indicate it. Mother's is something of an insider legend in Newnan, its reputation having spread by word of mouth alone. "Mother," herself, still runs the place every day, taking orders and dishing out plates. As for the food, expect to find some of the best soul food you'll ever have: juicy fried (or baked) chicken, butter beans, collard greens, dressing, homemade cornbread --- not to mention sweet tea and red velvet cake, if you so desire. Cons: Mother closes shop when she runs out of food, which can be any time from 1pm to 3pm, so be an early bird! (I actually think this is a fantastic idiosyncrasy, and not a con at all). Balance: PROS BOTTOM LINE: Mother's is a relic of an era past, and for us Northerners, an era that never even existed. It deserves 5 stars for the experience alone.

Went here based on reviews looking forward to great soul food. Canned green beans, chicken fried steak-not even sure what it was. Honestly sad. And disappointed.

Food for your soul. When it's gone...it's gone. My favorite is fried chicken legs, collards, black - eyed peas and cornbread. Makes you want to slap your Mamma! Menu changes daily for lunch only. Get here early! Nothing fancy just good food! I work across the street so come as often as I can.

I am a big fan. Can't get any better than this. And yes, it is like an exclusive club. Awesome food!!!

The best thing about Mother's Kitchen is the exclusivity of it. It's like one of those trendy clubs that doesn't advertise, with only those in the know ever figuring out which abandoned warehouse holds the party. Mother's doesn't advertise. No radio jingles, no telephone directory, no newspaper circulars, no sign. She and her perfect broccoli casserole live in an alley, waiting for the food junkies to arrive for their daily fix. What you get is simple, honest-to-goodness soul food. She cooks in several deep fryers you might find at WalMart and a collection of cast iron skillets. What comes out is savory, fatty goodness. As another reviewer mentions, Mother calls everyone she likes, "Baby," which makes you feel good. So good, in fact, that I am reluctant to get down to brass tacks and talk about the food. Is it good? You bet. It's the kind of meal that will make you unbutton your pants when you're done and want to suck on a toothpick. Is it the "best" soul food I've ever had? No, not really. My mother, before she retired from cooking and started buying "Smart Balance" and "Egg Beaters," could make fried chicken and cobbler that remains, for me, the gold standard. I most certainly recommend it, though. If Yelp allowed me to award 3.75 stars, that would be my rating. Just go to the county administration building, to the door past the flag pole. Turn around and look directly across the street. There is an industrial building with another old office building to its right. The alley between the two is where you'll find greasy heaven.

Deep South Home Cooking the way we grew up in these parts! Mother's Kitchen has some of the best vegetables and meats you have ever tasted, as well as great cornbread and deserts. Sweet tea - you bet. This is the place to eat good, see, and be seen. See the other posts on how to find Mother's, or ask around Newnan for directions. You will not be impressed by the building, but walk in the door and feel the love! And greatly enjoy some fine southern cooking at a very fair price!!! You gotta try it for lunch if you are in Newnan - you will not regret it!!! LOVE IT!

Love Mother's! If you dont know where it is, you should walk into a local shop and ask! The menu is written out on the chalkboard and you just tell them what you want. The sweet tea is awesome. This place reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. "Mother" refers to everyone as 'baby'. Takes me back to my childhood.
