So a friend of mine recommended me try this place to get a great burger. Walked in, loved the atmosphere. Didn't even know they had a few craft beer selections. We were seated immediately and started to browse the menu. We all were planning on getting burgers. But then there was a 10min wait before our waitress even came to take our order. But eventually the food came out and was phenomenal. A great burger and the fries were good too. But after they brought us our to go boxes, we asked for the check. And didn't get it for about 15mins. Overall, the food was great if your looking for a great burger and even have ice cream and milkshakes for dessert. But the service could use some improvement and that's why Im giving them 4 stars.

I recommended this place to my co-workers after seeing pictures and wonderful reviews. The food was good but pricey. The staff was friendly however the service itself was more than questionable, inconvenient and not well managed. I applaud the establishment for employing someone with special needs, however there should have been a handle on what they can successfully do and are actually incapable of doing. I sat back and watched as customers tried to be as nice, pleasant and patient as they can walking into an unforseen circumstance not quite sure how it was all going to play out. Initially, when I arrived, I thought this worker would maybe hand out the menu, squeeze out some fountain drinks behind the counter and at the end clear the table at most but I didn't expect an attempt at taking customer orders? People could not understand what the worker was asking or saying but everyone including myself and co-workers were patient and kind as can be. The staff that worked there would often get tied up chasing this worker down and trying to stay on top of them to make sure they weren't bothering anyone or didn't screw up an order. They were helping out the worker with special needs and could not tend to the customers. We all waited and dealt with the situation at hand which felt like a group effort from everyone in the establishment. They kept telling him don't do that , and don't do this, just trying to keep him in line. Honestly they were working and babysitting at the same time. Working at a restaurant can be hectic enough I hope they were getting paid double. Everyone deserves a job but within their capabilities not chasing them around the restaurant trying to prevent a catastrophe. I definitely applaud the waitresses there for their hard work and patience but I would recommend the food to go.

We were in town in early Oct. on a Sat. It was nice to see a good lunch crowd downtown. The burgers are like what you would fix on the grill in your backyard. A bit smaller in diameter and fatter than most, and piled high with all the extras. Our burgers were cooked perfectly and the fries were so salty and delicious. One complaint is that the bacon on our burgers was tough and chewy, like it had been cooked earlier and reheated. It hurt my teeth so I ended up taking it off. Otherwise, a very nice experience. Ambiance is cute 50s-60s retro with a soda fountain up front. Wait staff is nice and food was served quickly.

Customer service is at the door immediately when you come through the door and helpful.....the place has a very antique feel and timeless it takes you back in time with a smile...place is clean and the restroom is very nice and neat ..the menu is very extensive and the waitress knows her stuff which made it easy to order...they do have a bar area where you can order either a beer or a glass of wine which is a plus after a hard day of work...I order the blue eyes burger which is blue cheese and Monterey cheese but I changed mind to pepper jack cheese and kept the the blue cheese and some mild wings trying to keep the starchy food out of the diet...Lol and the sweet tea with lemon on side is on point no complaints here...

I'm not really into burgers - I know, I know. It's not that I don't like them, exactly, it's just that I'd almost always rather eat something else. Well, my better half makes up for my burger indifference by being completely obsessed with them. Therefore, I have a lot of experience with taking one bite from his burgers while making a meal out of whatever else is on the menu. In this manner, I have sampled almost every burger in Atlanta, and am never tempted to order one of my own. Not at Kirby G's. Sure, I could get a chili dog or one of the sandwiches, but I prefer a burger! The James Dean, to be precise, with Swiss cheese. Something about their burger can convert non-enthusiasts like me. Maybe it's the size - perfect to fill you up without leaving you in a coma. Maybe it's the way they perfectly cook your meat - mine was gloriously and pinkly medium but the exterior of my patty had a delicious crust. Or maybe it's the freshness of the toppings. I don't know, but I like it, and I'll do it again. I won't stop at burgers, though. This place has awesome options for sides and desserts. Their milkshakes are thick, creamy, and worth breaking a diet for. And the onion petals are mouthwatering... thick chunks of onion breaded and fried to perfection. Furthermore, I'm not one to obsess over service but the staff is here is excellent and deserves special commendation. Our waitress took such excellent care of us, with the best attention to detail and the most cheerful smile. I'll go anywhere and endure anything for good food, but that kind of service makes me return somewhere time and time again. Kirby G's is definitely that kind of place. If you appreciate an old-school diner feel, it's worth a trip - even from Atlanta.

This is a cute old timey diner like place that has a very good burger that was juicy and well seasoned. I wasn't a fan of the battered fries or the chocolate shake I ordered. It had a weird aftertaste or something. I also had to take away stars for it not being very clean. I will say the service was great and I would return again for a good burger.

I guess you had to be there. A 50's-themed restaurant probably sounds great to people over 60. The rest of us, however, weren't around in the 50's, so the decor doesn't really stir the kind of memories it's intended to. I've been to this restaurant twice and didn't really care for it. It's basically a burger-and-hotdog joint. The food is decent but not memorable, and the prices aren't going to keep you coming back. There is a soda-fountain feel to this place. That'd be great if they didn't serve Bluebell Ice Cream exclusively. Bluebell uses the same "good old days" gimmick to sell its product that the restaurant itself does, and frankly, their whiny advertisements about a "good old country home" (thie kind which about 70% of us never experienced) is pretty off-putting for me. It's my practice never to reward any company that annoys me, so I skipped the desserts. (Those without my issues where Bluebell is concerned tell me that the ice cream is actually fairly good.) The service was good the first time, but to be honest, a friend of my daughter's was the waitress. The second time around, service was much slower, though to be fair, our table was a ten-top. Overall service was about as memorable as the food. There was a band playing in the restaurant on our first visit. If you like folksy country music, maybe this is the place for you. For me, it seriously detracted from the experience. Overall, it's pretty disconcerting to go somewhere that does homage to a time you didn't live through yourself. I'm sure ElizabethTaylor was beautiful once, but I never saw her as anything but a superannuated ex-actress who got attention far out of proportion to anything she did after I got out of diapers. The same goes for KirbyG's - a lot of attention, and not a lot of worthwhile substance.

Out in the square with some visitors in town and everyone decided they wanted lunch. After browsing around and realizing that half the places were closed, and a good amount of the others had no vegetarian options whatsoever we ended up in Chevy's. It's got some kitsch appeal but in my opinion doesn't take it far enough. As far as being an ice cream parlor - the options really aren't that varied to make it exciting. If you like the standard fare sure - but Bruster's is MUCH better if you're only looking for ice cream. Now being vegetarian both myself and my daughter had grilled cheese - I can't complain but it's pretty hard to make a bad grilled cheese. The fries that came with it were lifeless - nothing to brag about. The other family members had burgers which received remarks, "decent, and okay-enough" my father really did enjoy the beer on tap though. Along with lunch my daughter had a milk shake - I tried it - sooo blah, couldn't pick up on any flavor and it was very thin. I already made the cry for Bruster's but compared to that single shake even McDonald's would have taken the prize. Now granted I couldn't' try anything outside the grilled cheese, so I can't comment, but overall not somewhere I'd find myself returning.

Hard to rate as the food was excellent, service good but management that was the rudest I have found ever. A group of 4 of us went specifically to hear the band of the evening. We were told the music area was full with a long wait. We agreed to eat in the diner area which was available immediately. Food was excellent. We finished eating then asked if there was now room in the back. We were seated by the host (didn't clean the table prior to seating us). We were only there about 4 minutes when a manager showed up to tell us since we weren't buying food there were other people waiting so we had to leave. We were going to ask a about another space but he left and went to the kitchen before there was a chance to talk. Two of the group left but I asked the host to have the manager come up front to talk. I could see him on the dining area. He was asked but then disappeared again. The last two of us then walked out. We never got to hear the band we were there to hear. Won't be going back and will hate missing out on the good burgers

I feel like I should have a movie style trailer announcer opening this review "in a world littered by Mexican, Chinese and burger joints comes a burger joint with a theme". Well I guess like most Hollywood blockbusters it's not an original theme. Chevy's goes for the 50's style diner but I'm not sure if I totally buy into it & it seems more like a half hearted attempt at it. Some pics hanging on the wall and 50's music playing in the background does not get it but with that aside the food was pretty good. Everyone agreed that the fries were better than average the burgers cooked to order and just about a full bar it's a pretty decent hang out spot in the square (the after work crowd that were in attendance while we were there proves my point). It's no competition for anything in Atlanta but if you are in the area it's A-OK.

We took my motherinlaw here as a thank you dinner. 3 adults, 2 kids. We waited 20 minutes to be seated in the second room which only had one family in it from what we could see walking up to the restaurant from parking the car. So right off the bat we couldn't understand why they made us wait so long to seat us in an almost empty room.. We sat down and immediately ordered the fried green beans which were brought to us in a timely manner. Drinks came at a timely manner as well, although one of us ordered no ice and it came with ice. After spending some time looking at the menu, which was kind of hard to decipher because there is so much going on with it, two of us settled on dishes with the pulled pork only to be told when the waitress came to take our order that there wasn't anymore. It would have been nice to have been told that off the bat so we wouldn't have wasted our time deciding. We ordered the kids meals at that point and asked her to come back and take our orders. Eventually she came back and our orders were jotted down. Shortly after the kids meals showed up. Their macaroni and cheese and French fries were delicious while their chicken tenders left a bit to be desired. Eventually, long after our slow eating kids were done with their meals, ours showed up. My MIL ordered a Rueben with more bread than Rueben on it and spoke with the assistant manage who was more than understanding and even ordered her one to go at no charge. My nachos were more cheese than chips therefore by the time I got to eat any of it they were soggy so I found myself digging under the chips for fresh ones. My husbands burger was alright but he almost couldn't get through it because the edges of the bacon was so cooked that each time he bit into his burger he thought he was biting into something that wasn't supposed to be there. The waitress was nice but slow to get refills and never came to get our appetizer plates and trash from ordering the fried green beans. That was frustrating. By the time it came to pay it wasn't clear on if we had to pay up front or wait for the waitress to come take it. We waited and waited and she never came back so we got up to pay. Upon entering the main room there was only ONE table occupied with the assistant manager from earlier and three of her waitresses, including ours, just chit chatting behind the ice cream bar with no regard to their jobs. My husband then waited mire than five minutes for them to stop talking so he could pay our check. Needless to say, we were not impressed and pretty disappointed. I've heard good things about this establishment and bad things. Kirby Gs lived up to its bad reputation. This is sad to us since its so near the iconic square, but it's clear that if they were located elsewhere then they wouldn't get enough profit to keep the doors open. We may go back sometime to try their ice cream side of things, but I can't say for sure. Our time would probably be better spent walking to another nearby place and getting some gelato or cupcakes instead.

I have had three lunches at Chevy's. First, the service. The service has gone down with each visit. The first visit the food was slow to come out, but the wait staff was apologetic and attentive. The second visit took even longer to get the food, and the wait staff acknowledged our wait, but it seemed like it was situation normal now. The third visit took so long that we almost left before being served. On to the decor. It tries be be a 50's diner without the 50's appeal. Having black and white photos of TV show stars of the 50's and 60's does not make you a diner. I find it amusing that whoever hung the photos, hung them in straight rows. I couldn't even find ones that had reproduced autographs. There is a juke box, so you can spend some more of your money to hear 50's music. The wait staff is young and depressed, wearing Chevy's t-shirts and jeans. The sleeves weren't even rolled up. All of the above is forgivable if the food is great. The food won't kill you, but you won't be running to tell folks how great it is. Nothing surprises you. Like other low rate joints, the meat is over cooked. They do have hot dogs and other sandwiches, but nothing to get excited about. They do have beer, so I guess if you get drunk, you won't care about the food.

Wife and I ate at Chevy's diner today for lunch with a friend. I had the steak sandwich and my wife had the Duke burger (cheddar chz, bacon and two patties) My sandwich was good but I would have preferred real steak to what looked like steak ums. The burger was good and so were the fries. I would def. go back and eat here again but they had nothing that makes me feel that I have to go back anytime soon. I went to this place on a Saturday night with five other people. The place was mostly filled. I ordered a James Dean Giant -- it was pretty big and the burger meat was a bit dry and overdone. The french fries were too crispy and well done. The service was great though. There was also live music which was a plus. I'd recommend it -- the prices here are economical compared to other places.

Score. Went to Jailhouse today for a beer trip with the gang and we've all heard a lot about Chevy's from the brewery guys so we stopped in to eat. Downtown McDonough is the size of my house, so it's easy to find. Parking on the street, go in to a really well decor'ed 50s diner. They have a good list of local beers (Jailhouse) on tap and a host of craft beer in bottles. Wine too. We all ordered burger and fries and damn, they know how to make a good burger. Fries were nice and crispy too. A+++, definitely worth a trip if you're close by.

This place is great! I honestly don't understand the complaints of dry burgers etc. I always order med well, and it turns out perfectly cooked and juicy every time. I've tried almost every sandwich and burger on the menu and they're all above average, especially compared to what you'll find at a chain. My favorite is the joltin joe or the old blue eyes. Chevy's is the best place to go in Henry County for a great burger. My favorite is the Joltin' Joe, complete with crispy bacon and Monterrey Jack cheese. Their fries are good, and their fried green beans are a nice appetizer or side dish (in place of fries). Chevy's has a nice beer selection, and they offer live music on Friday and Saturday nights in their music hall, The Back Seat. The house band, The Shoulderbone Creek Orchestra, performs on Fridays and provides a variety of music that the whole family can enjoy. Servers are attentive and friendly.

Took my family of 4 there for dinner and the burgers are good, but the prices are outrageous. Our dinner and a couple of ice cream cones cost us about $60 including tip. There are definitely better choices out there. I am not sure how long this restaurant will be around because there was only one other table filled in the whole restaurant and the majority of the employees were sitting around the bar in the back watching TV. The service was good, don't get me wrong, but I felt we spent WAY too much for this meal. I won't be going back unless they lower their prices.

My parents live in McDonough, and my Dad has been trying to get me to Chevy's for lunch for some time. We finally went for lunch this past weekend. I am so glad we did. The decor is a throwback to a 50s-style soda fountain with kitschy art all around. The service is small-town amazing with lots of "honeys" and "hons" thrown in. I had The Duke Burger. This thing is immense and delicious, just as it should be. My Dad had the Joltin' Joe burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mom had a cheeseburger (unusual for Mom) and thought it was really good as well. She took half of it home for dinner as it was plenty filling. Dad and I ate our ginormous burgers there, and we both ended up stuffed. The beer selection is impressive for a small place in a small town. They were out of the Jailhouse lager I ordered, but they had plenty of cold Sweetwater 420 available. Lunch for the 3 of us (including beers and wine) with tax and tip came to under $50. That was just awesome! My only criticism of Chevy's is that they use cheap House Recipe ketchup from Sysco Foods instead of Heinz. Having Heinz on the table would have made this place that much better. House Recipe is just plain crap.

The food here was amazing! Id have given this place 5 stars but the Coca-Cola I got was flat and after j then ordered a Sprite, that was flat, too! The food, though will make me come back in a heartbeat. I ordered the chicken melt on texas toast and the chicken was so succulent and tender that I was totally surprised because most chicken breasts are kind of dry. The hot dog was great as well and the fries were seasoned perfectly! My boyfriend got the 1lb burger and ate the entire thing but I tasted it and that was delicious also. We took the drive to McDonough to try out this place. Based on the mixed reviews, we weren't sure what to expect. My family and I arrived for a late lunch around 3:30. Kirby G's was fairly busy, but we were seated right away. The two adults ordered the Palladin Special (burger w/Serrano and roasted peppers, cheddar cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato, and barbecue sauce on a kaiser roll). It was delicious! We also ordered fried green beans for an appetizer, and a side of chili cheese fries. My daughter ordered the kids meal: five wings tossed in medium sauce and a side of fries. As one Yelper stated, the standard burger is 1/3 lb., but you do have the option to order a 1lb. burger. Between the sides and appetizers, 1/3 was plenty. They have a great selection of local beers on draft, and you can also order the usual assortment of carbonated and non-carbonated drinks. Kirby G's also offers floats. The establishment is decorated with old timely diner paraphernalia which creates a sense of nostalgia along with the classic oldies playing in the background. The only thing missing was a jukebox. We really enjoyed the food and would definitely return. If you decide to try out Kirby G's - make a day of it and hit the Tanger Outlets while your down there.

My husband and I were headed out for Mexican one night when he decided he really just wanted a hamburger. McDonough has a horrible selection of restaurants - unless you want to eat at a chain or a fast food joint. I remembered passing by Kirby G's (horrible new name - Chevy's was better) and suggested we try it out since it's been around for a while. They must be doing something right, right? When we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to find a cute, quaint little restaurant. It felt kind of like stepping back in time. The waitresses act as hostesses, and we were seated fairly quickly even though the waitress seemed stressed. They were busy, but it wasn't overwhelmingly so - most of the people around us already had their food, so it seemed strange that she was so frantic. She managed to take our drink and food order in a timely manner. A food runner brought our food, and we never saw our waitress again. She didn't even come by to check to make sure our food came out right. My husband had to flag someone down to refill our drinks, and we had to walk up to the counter to pay for our food. Unacceptable. I will agree with a previous reviewer who said you get great service if you know someone who works there. She was as pleasant and attentive as ever to the tables she WANTED to serve. We were the newbies and clearly not very important to her, which is obviously so backwards. Not only that, but we are a two-person table - we weren't asking for anything other than drink refills and our check. Moving on to the food - it was actually really good. My husband and I both ordered burgers. Both were cooked perfectly. They were fresh and delicious. My husband ordered french fries, and I splurged on the onion peels. They have several other side options like fried green beans too, which I'll probably try next time I want a burger bad enough to endure bad service. Prices were decent. Not too expensive, but any dinner is hard to pay for when you receive bad service.

Went to Kirby G's to try the Toro's chipotle black bean burger after receiving a very kind and thorough response from the owner, Neil, on Yelp for my last review. KG's has redeemed itself! The black bean burger was large and flavorful with actual hunks of corn and beans in it. It didn't fall apart easy and it was very moist. The bun was a good size and didn't hurt the room of your mouth, or anything. The fried pickles were amazing as usual. They have the best fried pickles I've ever had and, even though they are spears rather than chips, they are amazingly crunchy and well-battered with the perfect bite of breading and pickle. I could eat 50 in one sitting. Lastly, the Blue Bell chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream was smooth and creamy with that delicious Blue Bell vanilla and what literally tasted like Pillsbury cookie dough rather than the weird artificial stuff. The great beer selection and wonderful staff continue as they always have. I can't tell you how happy I am to see these improvements in Kirby G's. I will definitely be back, and maybe even have the Chicken Club the owner recommended!

Driving back to Savannah after going to my grandson's first birthday party in Lawrenceville, it was getting time to eat when I saw the KirbyG's billboard and had to try it. I love a great burger and this ranks as one of the best I've had. Got the 1/3 pounder with swiss cheese, bacon and grilled peaches. Quite a flavor combination. Fries weren't outstanding, save your appetite for the burger. I will definitely stop again the next time I'm passing by.

Been trying to get over here since we moved back to McDonough. Glad we did! Service was great "with a smile". Plenty of room when we went so we sat down right away. I was actually surprised when I looked at the menu because it had more on the than I had seen on the website. So my family and I will def be making a few more visits to try the other stuff. I got the biggest Damn burger they had, my girl got wings and my son got cheese fries and we all walked out smiling. If you're wondering whether you should go or not, hopefully I just made up your mind.

Looking for a big fat juicy could give you a heart attack burger... you have found it at KirbyG's. Clever naming convention after famous actors, politicians, singers of the 50s and 60s to go with their theme and atmosphere. So many variations of toppings it is hard to decide. And they have a full menu of other sandwiches and salads that you just want to go back to try other things... but first time there... gotta go with a burger. McDonough is one of those sleepy towns that is not on any route to anywhere. You'd cruise by except for the convoluted one way round about that makes you make a square circle of town square to get just about anywhere... so park it, walk the old town square, get a burger at KiribyG's and browse a thrift store "antique" shop while you are there... walk off those 1000 calories you just consumed :).

Fantastic burgers!!! These people know how to make a burger and they take great pride in it. They have great service and everyone is very welcoming. Skip the fast food and treat yourself to something great.

this small restaurant has a lot to offer. we started off with the chili cheese fries. The fries were perfectly crispy, topped with warm nacho cheese and homemade chili. For our meal we split a bacon cheeseburger. Just a warning the burger patties are huge. Each patty is 1/3 pound each. We split the 2/3 pound burger and we very full. The burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned really well. Kirby G's offers several microbrewery beers to choose from that make a perfect companion to your meal. Kirby G's really exceeded my expectations of what you would expect from a small town diner.

Not sure what the hype is all about surrounding this place, I've ate here about 4-5 times in the past year and it's always a blah experience....burgers are kind of dry and really nothing any more special that someone could whip up on the grill at home. I do like the sweet potato tots and fried pickle spears. The buffalo wings are very salty tasting to me. Can't say anything about the other food items as I haven't tried anything else. I would probably still eat here though but just not the hamburgers (which they are famous for??) anyway, I give it two snaps and slap on the butt....

This is a pretty ok burger place. I ate here while on my lunch break from jury duty, It is in walking distance from the courthouse. The food was overall good. It was a little pricier than I was expecting. The portions were large, big burger. My biggest issue is how the meat was seasoned. The burger was VERY salty, I almost could not finish it. The wait staff were all very friendly and my drink was always full. The place has a neat dinner feel.

So a friend of mine recommended me try this place to get a great burger. Walked in, loved the atmosphere. Didn't even know they had a few craft beer selections. We were seated immediately and started to browse the menu. We all were planning on getting burgers. But then there was a 10min wait before our waitress even came to take our order. But eventually the food came out and was phenomenal. A great burger and the fries were good too. But after they brought us our to go boxes, we asked for the check. And didn't get it for about 15mins. Overall, the food was great if your looking for a great burger and even have ice cream and milkshakes for dessert. But the service could use some improvement and that's why Im giving them 4 stars.

I recommended this place to my co-workers after seeing pictures and wonderful reviews. The food was good but pricey. The staff was friendly however the service itself was more than questionable, inconvenient and not well managed. I applaud the establishment for employing someone with special needs, however there should have been a handle on what they can successfully do and are actually incapable of doing. I sat back and watched as customers tried to be as nice, pleasant and patient as they can walking into an unforseen circumstance not quite sure how it was all going to play out. Initially, when I arrived, I thought this worker would maybe hand out the menu, squeeze out some fountain drinks behind the counter and at the end clear the table at most but I didn't expect an attempt at taking customer orders? People could not understand what the worker was asking or saying but everyone including myself and co-workers were patient and kind as can be. The staff that worked there would often get tied up chasing this worker down and trying to stay on top of them to make sure they weren't bothering anyone or didn't screw up an order. They were helping out the worker with special needs and could not tend to the customers. We all waited and dealt with the situation at hand which felt like a group effort from everyone in the establishment. They kept telling him don't do that , and don't do this, just trying to keep him in line. Honestly they were working and babysitting at the same time. Working at a restaurant can be hectic enough I hope they were getting paid double. Everyone deserves a job but within their capabilities not chasing them around the restaurant trying to prevent a catastrophe. I definitely applaud the waitresses there for their hard work and patience but I would recommend the food to go.

We were in town in early Oct. on a Sat. It was nice to see a good lunch crowd downtown. The burgers are like what you would fix on the grill in your backyard. A bit smaller in diameter and fatter than most, and piled high with all the extras. Our burgers were cooked perfectly and the fries were so salty and delicious. One complaint is that the bacon on our burgers was tough and chewy, like it had been cooked earlier and reheated. It hurt my teeth so I ended up taking it off. Otherwise, a very nice experience. Ambiance is cute 50s-60s retro with a soda fountain up front. Wait staff is nice and food was served quickly.

I can honestly say that they serve the best burgers I've ever tasted and I'm not exactly a burger fan. Fries are hand cut and sooooo yummy and they have local drafts. Customer service is at the door immediately when you come through the door and helpful.....the place has a very antique feel and timeless it takes you back in time with a smile...place is clean and the restroom is very nice and neat ..the menu is very extensive and the waitress knows her stuff which made it easy to order...they do have a bar area where you can order either a beer or a glass of wine which is a plus after a hard day of work...I order the blue eyes burger which is blue cheese and Monterey cheese but I changed mind to pepper jack cheese and kept the the blue cheese and some mild wings trying to keep the starchy food out of the diet...Lol and the sweet tea with lemon on side is on point no complaints here...

I'm not really into burgers - I know, I know. It's not that I don't like them, exactly, it's just that I'd almost always rather eat something else. Well, my better half makes up for my burger indifference by being completely obsessed with them. Therefore, I have a lot of experience with taking one bite from his burgers while making a meal out of whatever else is on the menu. In this manner, I have sampled almost every burger in Atlanta, and am never tempted to order one of my own. Not at Kirby G's. Sure, I could get a chili dog or one of the sandwiches, but I prefer a burger! The James Dean, to be precise, with Swiss cheese. Something about their burger can convert non-enthusiasts like me. Maybe it's the size - perfect to fill you up without leaving you in a coma. Maybe it's the way they perfectly cook your meat - mine was gloriously and pinkly medium but the exterior of my patty had a delicious crust. Or maybe it's the freshness of the toppings. I don't know, but I like it, and I'll do it again. I won't stop at burgers, though. This place has awesome options for sides and desserts. Their milkshakes are thick, creamy, and worth breaking a diet for. And the onion petals are mouthwatering... thick chunks of onion breaded and fried to perfection. Furthermore, I'm not one to obsess over service but the staff is here is excellent and deserves special commendation. Our waitress took such excellent care of us, with the best attention to detail and the most cheerful smile. I'll go anywhere and endure anything for good food, but that kind of service makes me return somewhere time and time again. Kirby G's is definitely that kind of place. If you appreciate an old-school diner feel, it's worth a trip - even from Atlanta.

This is a cute old timey diner like place that has a very good burger that was juicy and well seasoned. I wasn't a fan of the battered fries or the chocolate shake I ordered. It had a weird aftertaste or something. I also had to take away stars for it not being very clean. I will say the service was great and I would return again for a good burger.

I guess you had to be there. A 50's-themed restaurant probably sounds great to people over 60. The rest of us, however, weren't around in the 50's, so the decor doesn't really stir the kind of memories it's intended to. I've been to this restaurant twice and didn't really care for it. It's basically a burger-and-hotdog joint. The food is decent but not memorable, and the prices aren't going to keep you coming back. There is a soda-fountain feel to this place. That'd be great if they didn't serve Bluebell Ice Cream exclusively. Bluebell uses the same "good old days" gimmick to sell its product that the restaurant itself does, and frankly, their whiny advertisements about a "good old country home" (thie kind which about 70% of us never experienced) is pretty off-putting for me. It's my practice never to reward any company that annoys me, so I skipped the desserts. (Those without my issues where Bluebell is concerned tell me that the ice cream is actually fairly good.) The service was good the first time, but to be honest, a friend of my daughter's was the waitress. The second time around, service was much slower, though to be fair, our table was a ten-top. Overall service was about as memorable as the food. There was a band playing in the restaurant on our first visit. If you like folksy country music, maybe this is the place for you. For me, it seriously detracted from the experience. Overall, it's pretty disconcerting to go somewhere that does homage to a time you didn't live through yourself. I'm sure ElizabethTaylor was beautiful once, but I never saw her as anything but a superannuated ex-actress who got attention far out of proportion to anything she did after I got out of diapers. The same goes for KirbyG's - a lot of attention, and not a lot of worthwhile substance.

Out in the square with some visitors in town and everyone decided they wanted lunch. After browsing around and realizing that half the places were closed, and a good amount of the others had no vegetarian options whatsoever we ended up in Chevy's. It's got some kitsch appeal but in my opinion doesn't take it far enough. As far as being an ice cream parlor - the options really aren't that varied to make it exciting. If you like the standard fare sure - but Bruster's is MUCH better if you're only looking for ice cream. Now being vegetarian both myself and my daughter had grilled cheese - I can't complain but it's pretty hard to make a bad grilled cheese. The fries that came with it were lifeless - nothing to brag about. The other family members had burgers which received remarks, "decent, and okay-enough" my father really did enjoy the beer on tap though. Along with lunch my daughter had a milk shake - I tried it - sooo blah, couldn't pick up on any flavor and it was very thin. I already made the cry for Bruster's but compared to that single shake even McDonald's would have taken the prize. Now granted I couldn't' try anything outside the grilled cheese, so I can't comment, but overall not somewhere I'd find myself returning.

Hard to rate as the food was excellent, service good but management that was the rudest I have found ever. A group of 4 of us went specifically to hear the band of the evening. We were told the music area was full with a long wait. We agreed to eat in the diner area which was available immediately. Food was excellent. We finished eating then asked if there was now room in the back. We were seated by the host (didn't clean the table prior to seating us). We were only there about 4 minutes when a manager showed up to tell us since we weren't buying food there were other people waiting so we had to leave. We were going to ask a about another space but he left and went to the kitchen before there was a chance to talk. Two of the group left but I asked the host to have the manager come up front to talk. I could see him on the dining area. He was asked but then disappeared again. The last two of us then walked out. We never got to hear the band we were there to hear. Won't be going back and will hate missing out on the good burgers

I feel like I should have a movie style trailer announcer opening this review "in a world littered by Mexican, Chinese and burger joints comes a burger joint with a theme". Well I guess like most Hollywood blockbusters it's not an original theme. Chevy's goes for the 50's style diner but I'm not sure if I totally buy into it & it seems more like a half hearted attempt at it. Some pics hanging on the wall and 50's music playing in the background does not get it but with that aside the food was pretty good. Everyone agreed that the fries were better than average the burgers cooked to order and just about a full bar it's a pretty decent hang out spot in the square (the after work crowd that were in attendance while we were there proves my point). It's no competition for anything in Atlanta but if you are in the area it's A-OK.

We took my motherinlaw here as a thank you dinner. 3 adults, 2 kids. We waited 20 minutes to be seated in the second room which only had one family in it from what we could see walking up to the restaurant from parking the car. So right off the bat we couldn't understand why they made us wait so long to seat us in an almost empty room.. We sat down and immediately ordered the fried green beans which were brought to us in a timely manner. Drinks came at a timely manner as well, although one of us ordered no ice and it came with ice. After spending some time looking at the menu, which was kind of hard to decipher because there is so much going on with it, two of us settled on dishes with the pulled pork only to be told when the waitress came to take our order that there wasn't anymore. It would have been nice to have been told that off the bat so we wouldn't have wasted our time deciding. We ordered the kids meals at that point and asked her to come back and take our orders. Eventually she came back and our orders were jotted down. Shortly after the kids meals showed up. Their macaroni and cheese and French fries were delicious while their chicken tenders left a bit to be desired. Eventually, long after our slow eating kids were done with their meals, ours showed up. My MIL ordered a Rueben with more bread than Rueben on it and spoke with the assistant manage who was more than understanding and even ordered her one to go at no charge. My nachos were more cheese than chips therefore by the time I got to eat any of it they were soggy so I found myself digging under the chips for fresh ones. My husbands burger was alright but he almost couldn't get through it because the edges of the bacon was so cooked that each time he bit into his burger he thought he was biting into something that wasn't supposed to be there. The waitress was nice but slow to get refills and never came to get our appetizer plates and trash from ordering the fried green beans. That was frustrating. By the time it came to pay it wasn't clear on if we had to pay up front or wait for the waitress to come take it. We waited and waited and she never came back so we got up to pay. Upon entering the main room there was only ONE table occupied with the assistant manager from earlier and three of her waitresses, including ours, just chit chatting behind the ice cream bar with no regard to their jobs. My husband then waited mire than five minutes for them to stop talking so he could pay our check. Needless to say, we were not impressed and pretty disappointed. I've heard good things about this establishment and bad things. Kirby Gs lived up to its bad reputation. This is sad to us since its so near the iconic square, but it's clear that if they were located elsewhere then they wouldn't get enough profit to keep the doors open. We may go back sometime to try their ice cream side of things, but I can't say for sure. Our time would probably be better spent walking to another nearby place and getting some gelato or cupcakes instead.

I have had three lunches at Chevy's. First, the service. The service has gone down with each visit. The first visit the food was slow to come out, but the wait staff was apologetic and attentive. The second visit took even longer to get the food, and the wait staff acknowledged our wait, but it seemed like it was situation normal now. The third visit took so long that we almost left before being served. On to the decor. It tries be be a 50's diner without the 50's appeal. Having black and white photos of TV show stars of the 50's and 60's does not make you a diner. I find it amusing that whoever hung the photos, hung them in straight rows. I couldn't even find ones that had reproduced autographs. There is a juke box, so you can spend some more of your money to hear 50's music. The wait staff is young and depressed, wearing Chevy's t-shirts and jeans. The sleeves weren't even rolled up. All of the above is forgivable if the food is great. The food won't kill you, but you won't be running to tell folks how great it is. Nothing surprises you. Like other low rate joints, the meat is over cooked. They do have hot dogs and other sandwiches, but nothing to get excited about. They do have beer, so I guess if you get drunk, you won't care about the food.

Wife and I ate at Chevy's diner today for lunch with a friend. I had the steak sandwich and my wife had the Duke burger (cheddar chz, bacon and two patties) My sandwich was good but I would have preferred real steak to what looked like steak ums. The burger was good and so were the fries. I would def. go back and eat here again but they had nothing that makes me feel that I have to go back anytime soon. I agree with prior comments about ketchup and lack of ice cream parlor. should be looked at as a diner/ pub.

I went to this place on a Saturday night with five other people. The place was mostly filled. I ordered a James Dean Giant -- it was pretty big and the burger meat was a bit dry and overdone. The french fries were too crispy and well done. The service was great though. There was also live music which was a plus. I'd recommend it -- the prices here are economical compared to other places.

Score. Went to Jailhouse today for a beer trip with the gang and we've all heard a lot about Chevy's from the brewery guys so we stopped in to eat. Downtown McDonough is the size of my house, so it's easy to find. Parking on the street, go in to a really well decor'ed 50s diner. They have a good list of local beers (Jailhouse) on tap and a host of craft beer in bottles. Wine too. We all ordered burger and fries and damn, they know how to make a good burger. Fries were nice and crispy too. A+++, definitely worth a trip if you're close by.

This place is great! I honestly don't understand the complaints of dry burgers etc. I always order med well, and it turns out perfectly cooked and juicy every time. I've tried almost every sandwich and burger on the menu and they're all above average, especially compared to what you'll find at a chain. My favorite is the joltin joe or the old blue eyes. Their mac & Cheese is delish as well as the fried pickles, fried green beans, homemade chips, etc. You also get the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting a local business and your money is staying in the community. I hear they are opening a second location. Congrats!

Chevy's is the best place to go in Henry County for a great burger. My favorite is the Joltin' Joe, complete with crispy bacon and Monterrey Jack cheese. Their fries are good, and their fried green beans are a nice appetizer or side dish (in place of fries). Chevy's has a nice beer selection, and they offer live music on Friday and Saturday nights in their music hall, The Back Seat. The house band, The Shoulderbone Creek Orchestra, performs on Fridays and provides a variety of music that the whole family can enjoy. Servers are attentive and friendly.

Took my family of 4 there for dinner and the burgers are good, but the prices are outrageous. Our dinner and a couple of ice cream cones cost us about $60 including tip. There are definitely better choices out there. I am not sure how long this restaurant will be around because there was only one other table filled in the whole restaurant and the majority of the employees were sitting around the bar in the back watching TV. The service was good, don't get me wrong, but I felt we spent WAY too much for this meal. I won't be going back unless they lower their prices.

My parents live in McDonough, and my Dad has been trying to get me to Chevy's for lunch for some time. We finally went for lunch this past weekend. I am so glad we did. The decor is a throwback to a 50s-style soda fountain with kitschy art all around. The service is small-town amazing with lots of "honeys" and "hons" thrown in. I had The Duke Burger. This thing is immense and delicious, just as it should be. My Dad had the Joltin' Joe burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mom had a cheeseburger (unusual for Mom) and thought it was really good as well. She took half of it home for dinner as it was plenty filling. Dad and I ate our ginormous burgers there, and we both ended up stuffed. The beer selection is impressive for a small place in a small town. They were out of the Jailhouse lager I ordered, but they had plenty of cold Sweetwater 420 available. Lunch for the 3 of us (including beers and wine) with tax and tip came to under $50. That was just awesome! My only criticism of Chevy's is that they use cheap House Recipe ketchup from Sysco Foods instead of Heinz. Having Heinz on the table would have made this place that much better. House Recipe is just plain crap.

The food here was amazing! Id have given this place 5 stars but the Coca-Cola I got was flat and after j then ordered a Sprite, that was flat, too! The food, though will make me come back in a heartbeat. I ordered the chicken melt on texas toast and the chicken was so succulent and tender that I was totally surprised because most chicken breasts are kind of dry. The hot dog was great as well and the fries were seasoned perfectly! My boyfriend got the 1lb burger and ate the entire thing but I tasted it and that was delicious also. We took the drive to McDonough to try out this place. Based on the mixed reviews, we weren't sure what to expect. My family and I arrived for a late lunch around 3:30. Kirby G's was fairly busy, but we were seated right away. The two adults ordered the Palladin Special (burger w/Serrano and roasted peppers, cheddar cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato, and barbecue sauce on a kaiser roll). It was delicious! We also ordered fried green beans for an appetizer, and a side of chili cheese fries. My daughter ordered the kids meal: five wings tossed in medium sauce and a side of fries. As one Yelper stated, the standard burger is 1/3 lb., but you do have the option to order a 1lb. burger. Between the sides and appetizers, 1/3 was plenty. They have a great selection of local beers on draft, and you can also order the usual assortment of carbonated and non-carbonated drinks. Kirby G's also offers floats. The establishment is decorated with old timely diner paraphernalia which creates a sense of nostalgia along with the classic oldies playing in the background. The only thing missing was a jukebox. We really enjoyed the food and would definitely return. If you decide to try out Kirby G's - make a day of it and hit the Tanger Outlets while your down there.

If you're here when they're running the Chachi's Chow Chow burger, do yourself a favor and order it! It's absolutely amazing! The chow chow flavor mixed with their perfectly grilled patty is a great combo. Add in some fried green beans and you have a great lunch.

My husband and I were headed out for Mexican one night when he decided he really just wanted a hamburger. McDonough has a horrible selection of restaurants - unless you want to eat at a chain or a fast food joint. I remembered passing by Kirby G's (horrible new name - Chevy's was better) and suggested we try it out since it's been around for a while. They must be doing something right, right? When we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to find a cute, quaint little restaurant. It felt kind of like stepping back in time. The waitresses act as hostesses, and we were seated fairly quickly even though the waitress seemed stressed. They were busy, but it wasn't overwhelmingly so - most of the people around us already had their food, so it seemed strange that she was so frantic. She managed to take our drink and food order in a timely manner. A food runner brought our food, and we never saw our waitress again. She didn't even come by to check to make sure our food came out right. My husband had to flag someone down to refill our drinks, and we had to walk up to the counter to pay for our food. Unacceptable. I will agree with a previous reviewer who said you get great service if you know someone who works there. She was as pleasant and attentive as ever to the tables she WANTED to serve. We were the newbies and clearly not very important to her, which is obviously so backwards. Not only that, but we are a two-person table - we weren't asking for anything other than drink refills and our check. Moving on to the food - it was actually really good. My husband and I both ordered burgers. Both were cooked perfectly. They were fresh and delicious. My husband ordered french fries, and I splurged on the onion peels. They have several other side options like fried green beans too, which I'll probably try next time I want a burger bad enough to endure bad service. Prices were decent. Not too expensive, but any dinner is hard to pay for when you receive bad service.

Went to Kirby G's to try the Toro's chipotle black bean burger after receiving a very kind and thorough response from the owner, Neil, on Yelp for my last review. KG's has redeemed itself! The black bean burger was large and flavorful with actual hunks of corn and beans in it. It didn't fall apart easy and it was very moist. The bun was a good size and didn't hurt the room of your mouth, or anything. The fried pickles were amazing as usual. They have the best fried pickles I've ever had and, even though they are spears rather than chips, they are amazingly crunchy and well-battered with the perfect bite of breading and pickle. I could eat 50 in one sitting. Lastly, the Blue Bell chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream was smooth and creamy with that delicious Blue Bell vanilla and what literally tasted like Pillsbury cookie dough rather than the weird artificial stuff. The great beer selection and wonderful staff continue as they always have. I can't tell you how happy I am to see these improvements in Kirby G's. I will definitely be back, and maybe even have the Chicken Club the owner recommended!

The pimento cheese is super spicy so be prepared. I ordered 2 sliders and they were both great. The blue cheese slider was my fav. Great house chips too.

Driving back to Savannah after going to my grandson's first birthday party in Lawrenceville, it was getting time to eat when I saw the KirbyG's billboard and had to try it. I love a great burger and this ranks as one of the best I've had. Got the 1/3 pounder with swiss cheese, bacon and grilled peaches. Quite a flavor combination. Fries weren't outstanding, save your appetite for the burger. I will definitely stop again the next time I'm passing by.

Awesome Pimento Cheese Burger and love the onion petals! The wings are good here too! My only recommendation would be for them to get more comfortable bar stools and to fix the buckle in the floor near the front door I've tripped on it twice.

This diner/pub has a welcoming atmosphere. The waitresses are super friendly. I love the oldies they play. I has the BLT, and it was awesome. I would definitely come back again!

Been trying to get over here since we moved back to McDonough. Glad we did! Service was great "with a smile". Plenty of room when we went so we sat down right away. I was actually surprised when I looked at the menu because it had more on the than I had seen on the website. So my family and I will def be making a few more visits to try the other stuff. I got the biggest Damn burger they had, my girl got wings and my son got cheese fries and we all walked out smiling. If you're wondering whether you should go or not, hopefully I just made up your mind.

Looking for a big fat juicy could give you a heart attack burger... you have found it at KirbyG's. Clever naming convention after famous actors, politicians, singers of the 50s and 60s to go with their theme and atmosphere. So many variations of toppings it is hard to decide. And they have a full menu of other sandwiches and salads that you just want to go back to try other things... but first time there... gotta go with a burger. McDonough is one of those sleepy towns that is not on any route to anywhere. You'd cruise by except for the convoluted one way round about that makes you make a square circle of town square to get just about anywhere... so park it, walk the old town square, get a burger at KiribyG's and browse a thrift store "antique" shop while you are there... walk off those 1000 calories you just consumed :).

Fantastic burgers!!! These people know how to make a burger and they take great pride in it. They have great service and everyone is very welcoming. Skip the fast food and treat yourself to something great.

this small restaurant has a lot to offer. we started off with the chili cheese fries. The fries were perfectly crispy, topped with warm nacho cheese and homemade chili. For our meal we split a bacon cheeseburger. Just a warning the burger patties are huge. Each patty is 1/3 pound each. We split the 2/3 pound burger and we very full. The burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned really well. Kirby G's offers several microbrewery beers to choose from that make a perfect companion to your meal. Kirby G's really exceeded my expectations of what you would expect from a small town diner.

Not sure what the hype is all about surrounding this place, I've ate here about 4-5 times in the past year and it's always a blah experience....burgers are kind of dry and really nothing any more special that someone could whip up on the grill at home. I do like the sweet potato tots and fried pickle spears. The buffalo wings are very salty tasting to me. Can't say anything about the other food items as I haven't tried anything else. I would probably still eat here though but just not the hamburgers (which they are famous for??) anyway, I give it two snaps and slap on the butt....

This is a pretty ok burger place. I ate here while on my lunch break from jury duty, It is in walking distance from the courthouse. The food was overall good. It was a little pricier than I was expecting. The portions were large, big burger. My biggest issue is how the meat was seasoned. The burger was VERY salty, I almost could not finish it. The wait staff were all very friendly and my drink was always full. The place has a neat dinner feel.
