Great food reasonably priced. The empanadas sampler is soooo good . I had the Cuban sandwich and Beth had the jerk chicken sandwich, both served with yellow rice and black beans. Outstanding along with great service.

Food it's ok!!!! Horrible service!! You get your food after 20 minutes and the place is empty when I have been there maybe like 3 more tables!! I went twice and the same thing happen to me!!

Oh my, where should I start. Well first of all the service was great. That's always a good start. We had a waitress named Laila. She was very nice and attentive. We just loved her. The food was delish!!! I've never had Cuban food before. I'm a picky eater & this food was very good. The main reason we went was to try a Cortadito. Whoa, I must say..I'm now addicted to those things. It was amazing. I visited this restaurant with my cousin & my son & we are all 3 dying to go back. It's a little drive from home otherwise we'd be at this place very often.

I love this place. It has such a fun atmosphere, makes me feel like a mini getaway. Their alcoholic drinks are pretty good too. I usually get arros con pollo bt my last visit I got the papis seafood paella, it was delicious! They definitely didn't skimp on any of the seafood. It was $18 for that dish bt definitely worth it to me. I also love their sampler platter, I get that Everytime. Sometimes that's the reason why I actually go! The servers here are also great and at tentative. I haven't had a problem here yet! It may be a bit pricey bt to me it's so worth it.

The jerk chicken is great and the portions are decent. The staff were very nice and attentive. Would definitely come again.

Came here on a Friday night because we had to wait for our movie to start. Great location, just across the street from the AMC and some favorable restaurants. Came here for drinks after eating a hearty meal and they sat us close to the patio, a door away from the hectic dance floor with blaring music. Not the most preferable seating but we weren't that bothered. Service was friendly and didn't mind us just sitting down for a couple drinks.

  • Rob S.

Great atmosphere! Came in early for dinner. Got the appetizer sampler, and they were great. The flavor was great in my meal, but the pork cutlets were dry. I'll be back to see if the dry pork was a fluke, because the rest of the meal was great.

  • Allen P.

Not real impressed unfortunately. I've heard great things about this place but was let down. I had the jerk chicken sandwich and honestly the bread, rice, and beans were all fantastic. Unfortunately the hero the chicken was bland and dry. My friends pork was also very dry and the plantains were the worst I've ever had. Service is OK. And food service is fast but as long as the meats are cooked dry I'll be staying away

Food: $12.99 for the Masitas de Puerco (which is Fried pork meat with onions, Rice, side salad w/ dressing, two tostones, and a small slice of cuban bread). The meal was good. Yes the fried pork was dry, but I rather have it dry than greasy. The rice was good. The bread was very hard so I did not eat it. I requested for some of their delicious green hot sauce ($0.45) for a very, very small plastic container/side of it. Service: fast and smooth around 2:00pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was not busy/crowded so that made the service great. I have been coming to this Papis (Lawrenceville) for years and the service is a hit or miss depending on how busy they are. They usually get very busy/crowded for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. I've waited 1 hour & 30 minutes before to be seated and an additional 45 minutes for my food before. Overall: I enjoy cuban/carribean food so I will always be back. I am a foodie. I recommend you to try this place out.

Not the best representation of good Cuban food. Vaca frita was dry. The mojo wasn't even mojo, more like Italian dressing. Yuca and maduros were at least good. Other than that, I'll stick to eating Cuban in Miami. Service was good. I won't come back.

Great Cuban sandwich wonderful staff food tastes great manger was really nice would have four stars but they brought out our app cold like frozen however they comped it so all was good

I was excited to see that a Cuban eatery in the Atlanta area because I miss really good Cuban sandwiches. Unfortunately the soggy, lukewarm thing I was served was disappointing. I had gone to the Lawrenceville location. When I asked to speak to the manager about my dismay at this inedible mess, I was told he was unavailable. On a Friday night. Really... If a basic Cuban staple like this sandwich cannot be made with real Cuban bread and a crispy crust, I don't think I am going to waste any more money on their "Cuban" food.... I am giving this restaurant three stars ONLY because the martini was really good.

Sometimes when a place knows your name you feel like a total cheater going to another location. Sorry Lawrenceville Hwy location but I came to hang out with your sister. She is just as awesome as your brother downtown and you! Because I was at a new location, I even decided to try new food! It was a to-go order. The service was pretty quick and they brought us waters while we waited. No complains at all there. I ordered the Medianoche sandwich, I was feeling like something a little lighter than my full on Cuban all the way meals. The sandwich was delightful and wonderfully toasted, with googy cheese, perfect pickles (I would ask for a few more next time) and the best Cuban sweet bread ever! I ordered fries. Which were freshly cooked but nothing special. I wouldn't expect them to be though.... Will I return?? Of course. should I be in the vicinity. Two thumbs up from me!

The food here tastes a lot like fast food. I had the fish sandwich here and it tasted just like Burger King's Big Fish sandwich. The prices are reasonable but the food is still not worth it.

Where do I start? ! BEST Ropa Vieja I've had since moving from Tampa. Awesome Cuban Sandwich! Perfect customer service, very reasonable prices. I will DEFINITELY be back! ! Loved that there was Cholula on the table!

Omg food was so delicious. Perfectly seasoned food no salt or pepper needed. Had a mango margarita and mojito. Vaca frita perfect pollo frita was just as good. a side of the chimichurri sauce is a must. Service was fast and friendly. A little pricey, tab was about $50 for two ppl. Definitely worth it

3 stars might be generous, but I have to give this place the benefit of the doubt. We have been here 3 times now, so I do at least feel justified in giving this low of a score. Each visit has been very similar. Their signature mixed drinks are pretty good (however not the reason one generally seeks a Cuban/Caribbean restaurant). Strong enough, but not unpleasantly so. I particularly like the Eleqqua. Food however, is a bit disappointing here. The vaca frita and masitas de puerco have been dry and generally low in flavor. The Cuban sandwich and medianoche were tasty, but the bread was literally sopping wet from what seemed like a mix of condensation and grease. To top it off, service has been painfully slow each time we've come. Why do we return, you ask? It's very close to a friend's house, and our only real option in the area for anything but wings and pizza. And it's always full of Cuban families and couples, so we keep thinking, "maybe it was just an off night, we must be missing something." Unfortunately I think their following in that department is more likely due to the live dance music on the patio than the grub. So if that's your thing, come on down and shake what your mama gave you! Oh, and drink up :)

Not bad! My husband and I have eaten here a few times, and so far everything has been pretty good. The Cuban sandwich was pretty great, the rice and beans were well cooked, my husband enjoyed his jerk Cuban sandwich, and the black bean soup was great as well! The only thing I really didn't care for was the Cuban bread by itself...it wasn't very authentic...or I got a bad piece. Regardless, for some good Cuban food, Papi's is probably the way to go!

I have eaten at this location of couple of times now. It seemed mostly empty this Sunday evening. Food is pretty good. I just wouldn't say it's 4+ stars good. The first time I went I had the Arroz con Pollo. It's not what I'm used to as it was a whole thigh with leg in with yellow rice, etc. It was OK; but I wasn't blown away by it. Tonight I had the Vaca Fritas. The white rice was outstanding. The black beans are tasty and allow you to actually taste the beans. The meat was good though a little salty and a little greasy for me. Overall a pretty good meal. If you're looking for Cuban in the area, give Papi's a try.

Great if you like pooping lava after you eat! As a dedicated Yelper, I decided to listen to all the positive reviews and give Papi's a try. I was not impressed. The service was lackluster. I arrived at around 3:30 on a weekday afternoon. It took several minutes to be noticed and seated. There were only 2 servers on shift as expected on a weekday afternoon. But the duo seemed unable to handle me and my date, the other two tables with customers, and the one table with friends that they kept returning to sit/eat/joke with. I was never offered a refill on my water, despite asking the waiter while drinking from my date's glass. How can I describe the food? I'll compare it to the generic blase qualities of Applebee's with an attempt at Cuban flair. We ordered the yucca fries as an appetizer, but would have been more satisfied with packing peanuts. They had absolutely no flavor and very little crunch. They were just warm starch. The fries came with some sort of garlic/oil/butter dip, that honestly reminded me of a watered down version of Papa John's garlic butter. I ordered the Pan con Croquette for $6.99. It's essentially a ham and Swiss sandwich with little fried croquettes inside and no side item. The croquettes were only lukewarm and had a filling reminiscent of unsalted Spam. Because they weren't fried crispy like a croquette should be, they were squished when the "chef" slammed my sandwich together on the plate. So I pulled the croquettes off. What did that leave me with? An untoasted, slightly warm/chewy sandwich bun with one slice of Swiss cheese and one slice of funky-smelling ham. The menu stated there was mayo somewhere on the sandwich; I didn't notice it. If you want a sandwich, just go next door to Publix and get something from the deli. It will be fresh, made to order in front of you, and you won't have fiery hot diarrhea 2 hours after eating.

I'm a fan of Papi's, first of the Ponce location, then the Tucker location, and now this one. I usually get it to-go and bring it home to enjoy. Our favorites are the Cuban or the Chicken Cuban, and usually get the fries to go with. The fries have a different kind of texture, crispy breading on a fluffy potato inside, that I am a fan of. I would recommend getting their Salsa Verde to go with the sandwiches, it's well-worth the small upcharge and gives it a nice kick. I like that they have lettuce/tomato/onion options for their sandwiches, especially since many of the more authentic Cuban places stay strictly true to the traditional meat, cheese, and pickle combo. The bread used for the Cuban sandwiches is soft, softer than some other Cubans I've had, but I like it. The sandwiches keep relatively well, I had one late-night as a leftover from lunch and it was still very good. The prices are good, the service was alright. I picked up my order on a Sunday afternoon and it took more than a quick minute to successfully pick up my order. They seemed pretty busy and I would definitely get drinks and dinner here another time.

Had Papi's special Tuesdays-in-May paella the other day. The good news: Service was attentive, as always at Papi's. The Pico de Gallo and sliced avocado on the same plate were surprisingly refreshing. The not-so-good news: The servers tend to slam the door between the indoor dining room and the outdoor patio. If you're sitting near the door, as I was, it can be extremely annoying! As for the paella itself, it was singularly unmemorable, neither really flavorful nor really that bad, just a bit bland. Also, you get about half of what you expect from the photo on the restaurant's web site. Most of the dishes I've had at Papi's have been tasty but slightly disappointing, if you've had really good Cuban food elsewhere.

I ordered the Masitas de Puerco and the pork was dry. When my server asked how the meal was I told him and his response was 'sorry about that. Maybe the cook is just tired.' Not the response that warrants a return visit.

The vaca frita dish (steak or chicken) is amaze balls!!! I've tried it at other cuban restaurants but doesn't beat Papi's. Their Cuban sandwich is also super good but still not better than the Colombian sandwich cubano haha. My favorite drink, the mango cienfuegos is sooo good. I love it when they have the live band planning. I'm a frequent customer.

This Cuban restaurant is ok for the food but we come here for the atmosphere. It's a good spot to celebrate birthdays for a large group of people and you can bring in your own cake. They also have dancing which is nice! It does get loud, so if you don't like loud latin music then this isn't the place for you.

Tried this place recently and I am happy to report there is some real Cuban food in the North Atlanta area. The black beans were the real deal! The Potato Ball was decent, and plantains were fried perfectly. A word of caution, if you don't know what Cuban food is (acquired taste), don't complain or criticize this great reastaurant. We don't go to McDonald's and critique the cardboard Burgers you grew up on.

I've only been to Papi's once, and the experience was... mixed. I went there during lunchtime, and it was pretty crowded; however, we got seated there pretty quickly. Their menu was really extensive: there is really an option for everyone - from carnivore to vegan. Plus, the staff is all willing to explain/translate the things in Spanish (for us non-Spanish speakers) which I thought was really ncie of them. I ordered the vegetarian sandwich, and my friend ordered a plate that had beans, pork, beef, and rice (I don't recall the name). After we ordered, it seemed like our waitress disappeared. We waited nearly 40 minutes to get our food - which is pretty ridiculous even if they wee kinda busy. On an upside, the food was pretty tasty, but nothing to call home about. In addition, the portions are HUGE. Which, I, personally, enjoy. You really get your money's worth of food. Another added bonus was that sense we waited so long, they gave us a small discount for our troubles. Overall, the restaurant was okay, but a there is tons and tons of room for improvement.

Do not order the Vaca Frita...it tastes like it has been bathed in lard or a heavy oil. :( I only ate the rice and plantains on my plate and expressed disappointment. I was then charged $14 for the replacement (fish) OFFERED by the waitress which I did not eat either. Talk about service. The fish claimed to be cooked in butter...but all you taste is a heavy flavorless oil. Very disappointed and I'll never come back to this place. This is from some months ago, hopefully they've corrected these root issues.

Came on a Saturday with a party of 15 and sat outside. The music they put is nice and good is good but the waitress have terrible service. I don't think it's fair gratuity was added because I would personally not have left her that amount of tip. She didn't give anyone menus and when we asked she gave us 1 for all of us. Drinks would take forever to come out. She recommended a frozen mojito which tastes like grass. She would barely check on us. Nobody was happy with the service. The waiters were dancing while I was thinking why would no one take my order. The business is not ran professionally at all. I hope management takes action. Even if the food is ok the service mAkes me not want to come back!!

One of my favorite places to eat! Always great. But they have this one waitress that everybody hates to have. Late 40s, slim, dark hair, Spanish. Very scatterbrained. Disappears. Brings wrong orders. If she comes to your table, ask for another. Other than that, great place.

Papi's is one of my favorite restaurants. I always order the Congris with lechon asado or with the masitas the puerco both are really good. Also try the tostones supreme they are delicious. Service is pretty fast. You may want to finish the appetizer first before ordering the main course. Big portions so you may not want to order an appetizer after all. LOL

Came here for date night on a Saturday. I've been to this location a few times before, and my Cuban hubby wanted to try it out. We have been trying to find a good Cuban restaurant in Georgia, but our search continues. Place was busy, but not too packed. We were seated inside right next to the patio door, so the music streamed in which made for a nice atmosphere. Hubby ordered a Bloody Mary and had to send it back because it was badly made (he makes them at his job, so he knows how they should taste). The waiter was very nice and understanding about it, and offered to get him another one. Second one was better. I ordered the jerk chicken wrap, and hubby ordered the Mofongo (which he said was weak) and the Chuletas de Puerco (which he said was dry, but he liked the beans). My wrap was ok. It was weird though, half of it was soggy, and half of it was dry. The soggy half was spicy too. I did love the sauce though, jerk sauce is one of my favs. Might go back for appetizers or something, their plantains passed my "plantain test". Very yummy. Plus the staff was very nice, especially our waiter. I respect any business that tries to make it right for the customer whenever there's an issue. P.S. I know that my dish wasn't Cuban, I just love jerk sauce. My hubby even told me, "What do you expect? You ordered the most non-Cuban dish on the menu!" ;)

Had a Cuban sandwich and a Blue Moon draft. Stopped by here at the last minute for a very quick dinner before a meeting. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes and very full from the large Cuban sandwich. Awesome! Got a chance to go over the menu while I was there and will definitely be back with the wifey to have a "real" Cuban meal.

During the week I go here for lunch. The weekend, however, it is for the music! Cuban music is great. Hang out with friends and a few moxito(s) and this is a lively place. The bands are good and soon it is close quarters all around. It's a fun place to hangout and watch all the people dancing and having a great time. Good eats and drinks. I like this place a lot. I like Papi's I hadn't expected to see many cuban restaurants that were decent, but these guys do a good job. I've gone a few times with it being so close to campus, twice for their sandwiches and once for their daily special and each time i've gone around the lunchtime hour. That doesn't stop service from being friendly and very fast The Papi's Sandwich, Smoked pork, Ham, Swiss cheese, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes was amazing, with really nice crispy bread and tons of flavor, although I wasn't as crazy about the Medianoche sandwich (Smoked pork, ham, swiss cheese, dill pickles, mustard and mayonnaise on sweet bread) We showed up on a Wednesday and I grabbed their Ropa vieja (shredded beef) with black beans, white rice, and plantains. Shredded beef was tender and pretty flavorful, and I enjoyed the plantains also. Portion size, for the price, is pretty decent, coming in at under $10 for a full sized meal, and i'll never have anything negative to say about good customer service. Oh, they're in a publix shopping center area but it's pretty easy to get out and find parking.

Food $6.50 for their cuban sandwich. It was tasty but had more sauce then I expected. Maybe this is what authentic cuban sandwich is suppoused to taste like? Decor Saturday evening. Live music was playing and people got up to dance. I just wanted to eat my sandwich and talk to my friends. It was louder than the average night club and plenty of people danced into my chair. Bathroom had paper towels all over the floor. Service The waiter did not really like to be told to come back in a few mintues for our orders. At least you could try to hide your impatience. Would I come here again No. Sure I love the band's cover of Gloria Estefan's Conga but it was still too loud for my taste.

I really want to know what the people who rated this four stars or more ordered. Went here for lunch. It was Tuesday so there was this beef, potato lunch special thing that I got. It was so salty it was painful to eat. Others in the party ordered a Cuban sandwich ( he didn't like) and BBQ sandwich (which he said was nothing special).

We went for lunch sunday afternoon. Place was pretty empty. I had Pollo a la Milanesa with the rice and beans and some yucca on the side. the only thing that they didnt mess up was the fried plantains that came with the dish. The yucca was too soft and had no flavor. The chicken was like rubber w a bunch of garlic the rice and beans was also full of a garlic taste. A waste of 15 bucks! The service was mediocre. the lady servicing us disappeared for a long time i had to ask for the check twice. Got a to go cup of my sprite and she brought a empty cup. My cup was already empty... had to ask her to fill the cup which she filled full of ice. Never going back!

We had been looking for a Mexican restaurant in the area for an after church lunch (something that was not a national chain) and it seemed like they were all closed down. Papi's seemed to be in the location of the last one we couldn't find so we decided, "Why not?" Food portions were HUGE - we all could have made two meals out of each of our orders. The pork was dried out, though, overcooked and not particularly flavorful. My wife's beef was also dried out, blandish and overcooked. Having some hot sauce on the table helped to take care of the bland taste in the meat, but seemed like an extreme to have to go to in order to make the meat tasty. The rest of the dish, though, between the rice & beans, plantains and salad and was very good. Service was slow, and our server seemed a little "put off"(ish) towards us. I was like she "seemed" friendly, but only because she had to be - it wasn't a genuine friendliness. Maybe another try on another visit to Hotlanta on another day is in order - Maybe.

Delicious! The arroz congri was really good. Some of the best I've had in a restaurant. Tostones were also really tasty. Service was on point as well. Friendly staff, delicious food, if I'm back in the area for business again, I'll probably stop back in.

I have only ever ordered sandwiches togo here for lunch. Every sandwich I've had here has been HUGE and freaking delish. The Cuban here is so so good. They do not scrimp on the meat here. Ordering for carry out can take a while especially since they do have a decent lunch crowd so I would suggest calling ahead.

Why spend money on a commercial chain cruise when you can visit authentic Cuban food right here in Lawrenceville.

  • C. J.

Papi's is family owned and is the highlight of Atlanta restaurants. The jerk chicken is consistently amazing, whether you partake in the sandwich (my fav), salad or dinner entree, as are the maduros (sweet plantains). Anytime my family or friends come to the Lawrenceville area there is only one choice to eat out, and it's Papi's. The live music on Fri and Sat nights adds to the already tropical and welcoming atmosphere. Don't be afraid to try something new! The staff is bilingual and very helpful. Join me in supporting local, family-owned businesses like Papi's :-)

Pretty good food. Portions are perfect. Grilled fish plate was best meal I've had so far. The space is very nice compared to the tiny one on Ponce. The staff is nice enough...my favorite waitress, Amber is no longer there. She was a sweetheart and very attentive when I would drop in for a bite to eat. Nice bar with tvs for viewing the games. I've had one mojito and it was EH, nothing special.

The service here is really good. I also like the layout of the space. it is nice to have Papis this deep in the burbs. The food is probably not quite as good as the one on Ponce, but that said, it is still very good. Have tried most of the week day specials here and all have been filling and tasty. Please note, they close at 9PM on weekdays.

Papi's is alright. I've only been there twice and had just mediocre food. Maybe it was just the day that I went, but the chicken on my jerk chicken salad was kinda dry and rubbery. The service however was great. I may or may not consider going back, based on other reviews, I may.

The sweet plantains, fried yuca, and tres leches here are yummy! I did not like the jerk chicken at all. I ate the rice and left the chicken.

Went to Papi's and it looked like they were pretty empty maybe this is the reason they were just not really watching over the guest's satisfaction. We sat at the patio and there was not music at all and there was no lights out there it was very uncomfortable eating cause I could barely see my food. They were out of maduros this is the reason we kinda went for and I asked for a sandwich and they were out of it too. I ordered a mojito and it was extremely sweet and I had to sent it back. Service was okay she was very attentive and she had knowledge of the whole menu which was good but the other little things made our visit not so enjoyable. There were tables left dirty that you could tell people had already left before we got there and we left and they stayed the same way. They probably need to work more on the management because it obviously looked like no one was in charged of this place. Food was okay. I cant tell anything about the presentation because it was dark and I could barely see the plate. I even had to used the flash light on my phone to read the check. Disappointing experience.

I can't stand this place, and I tried, really really tried and wanted to like them as I love caribbean food. First off, this place is more cuban than caribbean so that was very disappointing and misleading. The first time there I ordered the chicken. The portions were great, the flavor was just not there. The chicken was just extremely dry I could barely choke it down. The second time I ate there instead of doing take out. The service was prompt, there was even a band playing on the patio. I noticed right away though that the table needed to be cleaned, not just dry dusted - the placemats were STUCK to not only the table, but to my plate once my food arrived. It was gross really... This time I ordered a cuban sandwich... it's a cuban place so how can they mess up their sandwich?? But yes, again, the meat came out dry. The bread was tough. I've had plenty of cuban sandwiches, the bread is supposed to crunch and then everything is just supposed to melt in your mouth afterwards.. I was so disappointed. I'll never go back.

There seems to never be a restaurant that can stay in this location. I have personally seen at least 3 restaurants in this location since the strip mall was built. But Papi's has been my favorite and I hope they can maintain business in this location. I typically go with the cuban sandwich and get a side of beans and rice. The food is delicious and is very filling. The portions are decent sized and at a reasonable price. The service is quick and very polite. The environment is relaxed and is ideal for both lunch and dinner.

Fresh, flavorful food. Service is fast and good here. Great price! I like this location better than the Midtown location. It's not as small and cramped. Also they offer the full menu all day everyday! I've never had a bad experience here!

Was excited to find this place so far from the city, me and my wife like many people who have been there prefer the one in the city. Now onto the review. Day one my wife had the Cuban Sandwich which she loved and preferred over Rey's as well. I went with the pork chunks ( name escapes me ) which were god, not as crispy as ponce but very good. Second visit wife again Cuban and again no complaints, I went Vaca Frita and it was my first time, not anything to write home about, but had no idea what I was getting ( part of the fun ). Third visit Pollo Frita which was amazing, shredded chicken, peppers and onions that simmer in a sauce and then they pan fry it for a minute, outside crispy, inside filled with moist chicken, best thing I have ever had there. My wife went for the Ropa Vieia which he did not like at all, so much so after one bite she did not proceed. The one on Ponce makes it correctly in a dark brown sauce, this one was a very different. UPDATE 4 TO 3 STARS::: BEFORE POSTING THIS REVIEW I HAVE BEEN BACK THREE TIMES AND ALL THREE TIMES THE FOOD HAS BEEN LACKING. THE VACA POLLO WHICH I FEEL IN LOVE WITH HAS TURNED IN A STEW CHICKEN WHICH IS WAY TO SALTY, NO MORE CRISPY CRUST JUST SHREDDED WET CHICKEN,.

super crowded which in some cases wouldn't be bad but people were literally bumping us trying to get around. if memory serves it was Valentines Day. they may have brought in more tables to compensate the crowd. Food was ok at an ok price.

This is a great place. on the weekends, to have a mojito and listen to some live salsa music. I had pollo con arroz the last time I was there. The plantains were delicious and the chicken was nice and tender.

I was overall pretty disappointed by papis here in lawrenceville. The food is decent and the drinks are okay at best. The best value is probably their Cuban sandwiches, mine was very well sized and really good. Otherwise, the smaller delicious dishes synonymous with the particular latin cuisine is over priced and barely worth it. If you are really dying to quench your need for some empanadas, you can do it here; just don't expect it to be the best you'd ever had. Hopefully the midtown one is better!

2 friends and I ate at Papi's tonight and it was terrible. The supposedly authentic Cuban sandwiches were soggy and tasteless. The Tostones were cut too thick and were also starchy and soggy. Worse than everything though was the large piece of bone in my pork. It was 1/2" square and I'm fortunate I didn't bite down on it. When I sent it back, the waiter still charged me for it, but I refused to pay. It was crystal clear the cooks don't care about making good food. This was deplorable!

Loved the plantains, hated the Empanada's my honey had - but admittedly, he liked them. I thought about how close we are to Miami, and thus, a lot of Cuban communities, but there aren't a lot of good Cuban restaurants around, we had to drive a bit out of the way for this one. Worth it, though.

Love this restaurant i have only been a few times you actually have to wait for your food it doesn't come right out to you which means that they are freshly preparing it good food takes some time to cook . Any way the beans and rice are great, Cuban sandwich, and the jerk chicken wrap and sandwich are great too. I am sure there are more delicious dishes there i just haven't tried them yet

I love this place. The last time we went, the server was really awful, but we won't hold that against the whole restaurant. It's not easy to find good vegetarian food around here, and their yellow rice and beans, veggies and Cuban bread are so yummy! My husband is not vegetarian and loves everything he's gotten here.

I had been to the Papi's in Midtown on numerous occasions before coming here. I was surprised to discover it was conveniently off the highway and in the plaza near the publix. Parking is abundant in this lot. We came on a weekday evening, it was not crowded. We walked in to a very spacious restaurant. In this review, I'll probably compare this location to the one in midtown, just a fair warning. We had a host who seated us, a young guy who was eager to help us out, a stark contrast to ponce. We walked past the bar area and to a table on the side. The layout is wide, and you can see everything from every part of the restaurant, you can also see the kitchen sortof over this wall. We started out with some drinks, I think we had mango margaritas for some reason, they were too sweet and tasted syrupy, i'll probably stick with a mojito next time. Our entrees.. I had the dinner special with steak. It comes with a salad, cuban bread, plantains, and rice and beans. My friend had a sandwich. The salad is a little lettuce, sliced veggies, slices of red onion. I like that here they have a mango vinaigrette on the tables, which they don't have in midtown. They however do not have mojo sauce on the tables, they were in to go cups, which our server brought to us. I haven't tried any of the desserts yet but will definitely next time. Overall the food was solid and the service was also good. This will definitely go on my list for this area.

My husband and I have heard so much of this name that we went with an open mind last night and were very... well? what can I say. My husband got the Churrasco which is a 16 and change dollar plate and I got the Carnitas 11 dollars. He asked for Yuca frita instead of the beans and rice, i got the regular plate. We sat there for a some minutes waiting on the food and in the meantime we were talking and hoping the food is better then many places that call themselves Cuban Restaurant. We got our food and his plate had to go back since the waitress had brought him yuca con mojo ( the soft yuca) and he did not ask for that. So then she began to argue with him on the yuca. I had to tell her that I am Cuban and I know what yuca is so she brought what they call yuca fries which were drenched in grease and horrible tasting since we could tell they were frozen and of course no mojo to go with it. The meat was 1/4 inch thick and maybe 5 inches long no taste what so ever nothing!!!! I saw my husbands face and asked for a bite and it was just meat no flavor at all??? He was not happy. My carnitas? some were stiff hard and some tender and the rice was tangy and we finally realized the salad that came with the plate ( which was hot ) was better then the food. You would think that for the overpriced food you would get something that you can walk out and say "Wow"!!! Instead the dogs enjoyed the carnitas that i brought home and my husband had a bowl of cereal because he was still hungry since the only thing he ate was meat and salad and I am talking small portion. I know I bring this up many times it makes me sick of what is being done and has been done to the Cuban food. Just because they put the name Cuban in front does not mean you have a Cuban restaurant! many people that do not know the food feel they are getting the best of the best and it is false. S some of these place are just 2 steps above Taco Bell. We will never set foot in any of the Papi's and feel that for the price they charge they would have better quality food. Americans have a place to go drink Mojitos which we do not even drink in Cuba and feel they are eating authentic food. Adios Papi's... ese paquete meteselo a otro que no sepa!!!!

The Cuban sandwich was as good as any i have had in Miami. The chicken in yellow rice was excellent, chicken was moist and juicy, plantains cooked to a turn and the rice was flavorful and delicious. Nice to be able to get GOOD authentic Cuban food without having to drive 700 miles to Miami. The service was excellent and the waiter did not miss a beat, we were really impressed.

I didn't think there was a good Cuban restaurant in the Atlanta area but here it is. Good atmosphere, good food, and good drinks. The mojito is a must. I've been here a couple times and I always come out satisfied. The only reason I haven't given this place 5 stars is because I think they can do a better job with their service. It not bad, but its not great either. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to someone, and I would even bring a date here. Four stars!

This seems like a very nice place for after work or cocktails. The food is very good Cuban and some other Caribbean flavors. Not my favorite for mufongo but the taste is ok. Personally I am a fan of the Papi's on Ponce. But if you want a good cuban sandwich or some nice roasted pork this is a good stop. I am sure the libations are just fine also. I don't live out here but I will visit again with people from work

Had dinner here a while ago, maybe last month or June. For some reason I think I had much better food at the Midtown location. The visit to this location was nice (had a live band, nice patio area) but the food just left something to be desired. I ordered the Ropa Vieja with rice and beans also came with a side salad. I will not say it was bad, but it was bland. I don't even remember what my friend ordered but I do remember she said it was just okay. I felt bad because I raved about the food when I ate at the Midtown location some years ago. I don't even know if the places are related or not but the menu seems to be the same. Still looking for a restaurant in the Lawrenceville area that I can give a good review for, the search continues, LOL!

  • Demetrius B.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I love Papi's! The food is always good. The jerk chicken wrap is the BEST! I sometimes I get the sandwich, but the wraps are AMAZING! The only issue I have is that the Ponce location in Midtown gives me a plate full of maduros (plantains) when I order them, yet Lawrenceville (my favorite location) only gives me about five- so I order an additional serving, which cost a bit more; not much. I do not mind because they are so yummy! Oh, and the natural juices- OMG! I LOVE Papi's. The staff is friendly also.

An honest bartender needs props on guiding a new patron to the best of the restaurant. Then again that,s why I have taken my co-workers back for the Monday special Chicken Fricassee... SOOOO good! Empanada beef and cheese with guava moist and tasty. Want some hot sauce at my finger tips next time. Looking forward to going back on a weekend for pastries( a weekend only special).

My husband and I discovered Papi's after seeking out somewhere that I could satisfy my craving for Ropa Vieja. We just moved from Los Angeles, so we haven't found our fave restaurants yet. This place did not disappoint!! My Ropa Vieja was delicious, and my husband loved his Jerk Chicken wrap. The restaurant itself was very nice and definitely surpassed my expectations. The service was great, and you can't beat the prices. This place made me so incredibly happy - I know we'll be back very often.

20 mins to get drinks. Silverware was given to us after 10 mins of us getting our food. Server was complaning about being double sat whatever that is. Steak was very small and thin. Beans were watered down. Not a great experience.

I've been going to Papis since it opened. For some reason we never have an amazing experience even though in the past the food has been delicious. Went twice in the past two weeks and the first time it was mediocre. Our waitress was great but the food wasn't as good as in the past. Then we went today and wow, what a let down!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think I've ever been as disgusted at any restaurant as I was today at Papis. We had the same waitress from last week, she was disoriented and forgot something each time she came to our table. Secondly, I ordered the buffalo wings and the last one I bit into was bleeding. It grossed me out and I could not eat anymore. The waitress looked grossed out too and said she would tell the manager. That process took forever. While I waited, I went to the bathroom and OMG!!!!! It was flooded with water. Toilet paper at the door, on the floor, and clogging two of the toilets. By then I just wanted to throw up. I came back to my table disgusted and nauseous from the bleeding wing and the nasty bathroom and my husband said the men's bathroom was prob even worse based on my description of the Women's. He said they had one toilet and it was clogged with paper and crap. The waitress was still not back with the check. I left with my kids because they were dying for the bathroom and I couldn't stand taking them in that nasty bathroom. I told the hostess on the way out about the bathroom and she smiled the whole time, saying she was sorry but not acknowledging it with any kind of body language or facial expression, just smiling. WEIRD!! Anyway I think that's the last try we will give this place. By the way we visited just a couple of hours after they opened. We arrived around 2pm and the place was already THAT nasty.

I always have a good experience (food wise) when going to Papi's. Last time I got a server who must have been brand new because she was pretty bad. It took forever to get drinks, she refilled a beer after about 25 minutes of it sitting on the edge of the table. Also, I ordered a Cuban Wrap with no tomato or onion, when the food came out she specifically told me she "thinks" they put onions in it, which they did, and immediately took it back to the kitchen. I would have rather picked them out because the rest of my party was done eating and ready to leave by the time I got my food. I asked for a to-go box at the same time. She was about the only reason that I might not return. Other than that, the food is incredible!

As far as authentic, fresh, and reasonably priced goes in Lawrenceville or even Duluth, this place is the best. They really try hard, and the food is outstanding. Just know that they aren't running around all happy-sappy like Applebees, so be prepared to take your time eating. Mojitos are good. And did I mention it's cheap?
