Awesome Mexican restaurant. I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants and this is one of the best. The carnitas were excellent and the chicken quesadilla was as well. The service was great and the ambiance was much nicer than we expected in a small town like Jackson. We were at a softball tournament in Monticello and drove over to eat there both days.

This will be the second time I have been here and the last time was a couple months ago and the food was really good. They have street parking and in Jackson, it is free for 2 hours and this was Sunday around 5 PM and parking was not a problem. They have a full bar and Draught beer thank goodness and you can get a 32 oz one .. yea!. They have a few domestics and of course Mexican beers. As with every Mexican restaurants, they make great margaritas. The have tables, booths and a bar that seats maybe 8-10 people. The chips they bring out are nice and crisp and light. Much better than many I have had at other places. I ordered a Molcajete, which has chicken, shrimp, grilled pork and steak and lots of other stuff served in a cool Volcano rock bowl. It also includes tortilla shells and a plate of beans and rice. It was huge and quite a bit for 14 dollars ... enough to share. I found it very tasty but some of the meat was grisly and actually had to spit some out into a napkin. I wish I could remember the cheese and meat cheese bowl as an appetizer. IT was awesome .. I added a messy picture of it... sorry... The service was great and the food was very good. I was a little concerned because some of the meat was grissly and took away from the overall experience. Overall it is a 3.5-4.0 because the quality for the price is very good. I will come again if I am in town.

Inexpensive and dependable Americanized Tex-Mex food. This place is always busy, and rightfully so. Everything on the menu is equally delicious, so order whatever you want without fear. Their desserts are surprisingly good, and their beer is surprisingly cheap. Great for large parties and people with small children. If you order take-out, be sure to call at least twenty minutes in advance, especially on the weekends.

We ate here several months ago. Was disappointed to see the health score of only 80 but had already ordered before we noticed. Beer was good and cold and the margaritas looked yummy. I had the lunch fajitas and they were good, chips were fresh and crispy. This place has been open for 25 yrs so they must be doing something right!

I have eating here at least once a week for 5 years and in the last two months the food has went down and the staff not the same..............I suspected new owners and I was right. Have given them three times with nothing changing to the good. So good luck but sometimes making to many changes didnt work in your favor. I will drive to Locust Grove and or wait on the new Mexican restaurant to open up.

They make the best tacos and I love the shrimp! Cheese dip is a must and they always have a friendly staff that is always around to help you. Been there more times than I can count and never been disappointed.

First time I went for lunch with the ladies from work and this place was delicious. Second time was a whole different story. Waitress was slow and not able to keep up. Anything we asked for we got way later after our food was cold. My son didn't even get his entire meal, just a plate of 12 steamed lonely shrimp. Drinks stayed empty and food was no where near as good as it was the first time. Oh well...can't win them all....

Nice place in downtown Jackson. Actually this little gem is spot on from service to food. Had the Mesquite Chicken Burrito on their lunch menu. Huge portion! Rice and beans were hot and ready. The burrito was packed! Server was a young local fellow, bilingual with the rest of the staff and very good. So if you ever in Jackson (nice little town by the way) then stop by for a bite at the Mesquite! Oh yes! Beware of those darn chips! You start you will not stop!

I've been going here to eat ever since they opened and have NEVER been treated poorly. The food is awesome, the staff is awesome, the drinks are awesome! What more could you ask for? There is always the setback that you're bound to see some less than desirable people because of the location, but that's expected in this town, and not the restaurant's fault. I highly recommend the chicken fajita nachos. They're my favorite!

This place is fantastic!! I wish we were in town longer to enjoy it again, but the food was great - service was excellent and the price was a steal as far as getting what you pay for!! Would def recommend it!

Wowie! Who knew such a fine Mexican restaurant was in Jackson. Great service and the Molcajito (or whatever the big lava bowl of awesome meats and shrimp and cactus is called) and carnitas are fabulouso. If you're in the area, go.

I love the fact that they have 2 different salsa's! The brown one is my fav! It is a smokey mesquite salsa and it is out of this world. Good food and have always had good service! Love going here to eat!

Not too many people live in or make it a habit of going to Jackson to eat that would probably ever see this review....but had to share my thoughts about my experience at this nice, clean, friendly, and yummy Mexican eatery. Besides the expected waffle house and dairy queen franchises and fast food establishments, if you are looking for locally owned in Jackson GA, you'll find one Chinese restaurant, one steak house, one country breakfast/lunch spot and one Italian restaurant....and Mesquite Mexican grill. The main highway that cuts from Griffin, across I75 through Jackson to parts unknown East and West of those GA metropolises, is Hwy Route 16. So if you find yourself near this quaint small town and are looking for a good place to eat, then visit Mesquite Grill. The salsa is fresh, but a little bland.....after all- this is Jackson, GA. Chips are crisp. Many selections on the menu from typical combos to house specialties. A good variety of chicken, steak & seafood. I got Jefe's Choice. A deliciously seasoned skirt steak...kind you would have in a fajita but not already cut up, and a chili releno, came with a side of rice and beans. Chili releno was the full pablano pepper, but again, not very spicy. Steak was flavorful. But the real test was the rice and beans. 90% of the Mexican restaurants I eat at have dry rice and mediocre beans. Not here. Rice was moist....didn't even need to put salsa on it, and beans had that unique flavor you get when someone who knows how to make refried beans from scratch and not taste like a bunch of pasty beans. Topped with the white cheese. I cleaned my plate and that doesn't happen all the time. After you eat, take a stroll around the square and peek in the windows of the local shops. But buyer beware....everything but the restaurants close at 6.

The wife and I went there for the first time tonight and we were quite surprised. Everything we had was great and we are heavy Mexican food fans! The chips are great, light and thin as opposed to the thick ones most Mexican restaurants have. The salsa was also great with great flavor and truly mild to medium on the heat scale as opposed to blazing hot as so many others furnish. The wife had Carnitas which she said were great and I had combo #12 with 2 enchilads, chile relleno and taco and more than I could eat. I had also ordered the Queso Fundido which was probably the best one I have had anywhere. The overall experience was great and we will be returning, especially since it's only 13 miles from our home.

Fairly typical good Tex-Mex. Chips are greasy, but if you ask for nacho chips, they will bring you some better, less greasy, thicker chips. We go there repeatedly, it's your typical Tex-Mex.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
