My fiancé and I went to check out the grill for our rehursal dinner for our upcoming wedding, because they are a local restaurant. We spoke with April the GM about what we were thinking and expected. April seemed nice and said that she would email me a couple menu options and a contract the next day or the following day at the latest. It has been 9 days and still no email or even a phone call. I have called her 2 times and never got a call back when the girl who answered the phone said she would call me back in 20 minutes. So today I call her back and tell them to not worry about it cause she obviously doesn't have time to worry about it. And for the record, we are having a large wedding and our rehursal dinner would consist of nearly 50 people. That would have been a lot of money to bring to their business. You would think that they would be very eager to have us. Anyway I will not give them any of my business and I will not refer them.

Great atmosphere. Courteous wait staff. Trout soup appetizer was awesome. Ribs used a fruity glaze that I was not partial to, but the wife loved them.

We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees of chicken pot pie with a perfectly flaky crust and the chicken cutlet with capers. Definitely try the house-made honey balsamic vinagrette for your salad and the trout corn chowder. The jalapeno cheddar biscuits and starter popcorn were quite tasty as well. Will definitely return next time I am in Helen.

A friend recommended the Nacoochee Grill's brunch, so a group of us went there New Years Day. The atmosphere is great and the menu was amazing. Before I even ordered, I was fantasizing about future visits and all the food I wanted to try. The waiter came, took our drink orders, and seemed like he was going to be very personable. Needless to say, I was excited about my afternoon there. After all 4 of us had ordered food and 3 ordered alcoholic beverages, we had to wait at least 20 minutes for our food to come. When it came, it looked awesome. I got the biscuits and gravy with sausage and a side of cheese grits. The biscuit was ok, the gravy was really good and the grits were fabulous. But 2 people in our party who had ordered the same meal both received the incorrect entree. They informed the waiter. He said nothing and just rushed away. 5 minutes later he returned and told them to keep that food and he was working on the correct meal. It took another 15 minutes before they got their food. During that time, we never saw our waiter. My friend had to get up and go to the server's station to ask for a coffee refill. And they still never brought it. Basically the waiter made a mistake and instead of working to remedy it, he just repeatedly made it worse. His attitude was defensive. They were still charged for their meals. No allowances were made. Very frustrating. I'm giving them 3 stars because the food was good. However, it wasn't worth the frustration and horrible service.

So I read all the previous yelps and must agree with all the positive ones. This place was really really really good. Duck taco's and spinach dip for the table was excellent. I have Fred flints tone ribs (full size order is way to big) and the barbecue sauce was just the right mix of sweet and tangy. My wife had the sausage special which she loved. Other in our party had the trout and shrimp and grits, both to rave reviews. Good selection of local wines, although I am not a fan of the habersham winery they also offer Yonah Mountain wines which are excellent. The wait staff was attentive, not pushy and allowed us ample time to enjoy our meal. If you are I the Helen area I would recommend you make this a stop n your trip. We will be back during our next visit.

We had the Chicken Marsala and Grilled Trout and both were excellent. The service was also very good. We did not wait long for our food and there was a wedding party going on. I would definitely visit this restaurant again!

The Grill is certainly among the best restaurants we've found in Helen --- maybe three and a half stars -- but there are as few problems that keep us from giving it four stars. We shared entrees the other night and enjoyed the shrimp and grits and grilled salmon, but the chicken pot pie had a very dry, almost inedible crust, and the filling was tasteless. The cornbread served before the meal would have been much better if it had been warm and not so dry. The atmosphere is pleasant, and compared to most of the rest of Helen, almost sophisticated. Service was good but a bit untrained in the niceties and slow to refill empty water glasses. But that small stuff: there's a diverse menu (we hear good things about the meatloaf though we've never tried it), a respectable wine list and most of the ingredients to ensure yiu have a decent dining experience.

Fantastic little place in the fun little town of Helen GA - aka little Germany. Nice atmosphere, great service (thanks Catherine - spelled right?), and delicious food. My wife had the chicken Alfredo and, judging by the number of times her eyes rolled back after each bite, it was probably some of the best she's ever had. I had the full stack of ribs - amazing. And these weren't ordinary, bbq pit stop, more-bone-than-meat ribs, these were serious, SERIOUS, meaty ribs - fall of the bone and fantastic all around. I couldn't even finish my meal...leftovers it is. Will definitely make it back here again. We ate at 3 restaurants in town and this was far and away the best :)

This restaurant was a treat to try. I am staying up in Helen for the night for work, and was trying to find a good place to go to with quality food but that also can work with my dietary restrictions. I came in around 430, right before the dinner rush. My server was very friendly and attentive, taking the time to make sure everything was perfect for me. After I ordered the owner actually came out and introduced himself, and we had a nice little chat. He is super friendly! For my dinner, I ordered sides: mashed potatoes, garlic cheddar grits, panseared green beans, and Rice pilaf. The rice pilaf was good, but the green beans, grits and potatoes were great. The green beans had a smoky flavor to them, and were rich and buttery. The portion size was great, I couldn't even finish all the food. This is a shame because their dessert sounded amazing. I will definitely be back here next time I work in this area.

My wife and I have travelled around the nation and to several international destinations. We both loved our food at Mully's Nacoochee Grill!! Best filet, pork tenderloin, green's, Caesar salad dressing, and German chocolate cake that we've ever tasted. Five stars!! Thank you very much to Jason, the sous chef!!! Bravo!!!

Food was excellent! We had a newly minted waitress who forgot my salad, my wife's side of collard greens, and my second drink, but the owner was there, and he was a delightful man. I would definitely come back and highly recommended the food if you want fine dinning in Helen.

Party of 26? Yep! That's us! We were in the area for a family reunion and were looking for a place to have dinner. We called ahead and they arranged for us to have a private room so we were seated right away. The food was great! I had shrimp and grits and my husband had the ribeye. Everyone eating steak said it was cooked perfectly. We cleaned our plates! Everyone enjoyed their meal. No complaints. The service was not as attentive as we would have liked but for a group that size I can't be too critical. The pricing was on the high end but the meal was executed and worth it. The owner, Mulley, visited with us a few times while we were there to thank us for our business. He was very personable and we enjoyed getting to know him a bit. Mulley, we'll see you again! Thanks for being a great host to the Hatcher family!

Food was decent to good, but service was terrible. Salads came out 35 min after we ordered and food was out within a minute of our salads arriving. My sautéed greens were raw mustard greens, which I didn't even know were edible. Sent our salads back and didn't stay for dessert, as our experience was flawed from the get go.

Wonderful local fried mountain trout and garlic mashed potatoes. Avoid the wine from the local vineyards, however!

promptly seated by a nice hostess. Drinks brought and appetizer. Salad not brought until after we reminded the server, which was AFTER she brought the entrees. Had to ask for bread. Owner is in the diningrom too much and is very loud. Guess he is socializing with friends but disruptive to guests trying to have a nice quiet dinner. My trout was dry and a little tasteless. Collards good. Bread good. Salad had wilted lettuce in it.

  • Danielle G.

We didn't have high expectations which was a good thing. The cheese or whatever biscuits they bring - stale and chewy, not a good sign. The appetizer- duck taco. Ok a gamble, I admit, but figured was worth a shot. No joke it comes in an Ortega taco shell......which I could have forgiven if it tasted good. It was a greasy, tasteless, mushy very obviously microwaved wad of duck meat with tomato, lettuce and taco sauce tossed on. For entrees we got the local trout - I had herbed and dh had fried - it was ok, fried was cornmeal with no seasoning at all. Sides - collards were ok, now here is the kicker - we are in GA so you'd think grits should be fabulous -not the case. Wallpaper paste would have been better. They were old tasting and so pasty and devoid of any flavor. My other side was mashed taters and that was honestly the best part of whole meal.........sadly that isn't a joke. Very friendly service and a cute restaurant, too bad the food doesn't follow through.

Great food, friendly people! we had the duck decadence, smoked duck on top of fresh tortilla chips with a chili lime sour cream sauce and fresh pico de gallo , the duck was perfect. for the main course I opted for the Avocado burger, 1/2 lbs. all beef burger topped with a whole avocado sliced and lettuce tomato red onion and a over medium egg. over the top. I would have given this place a 5 star review but the service was slow and atmosphere was a little weird.

My husband and I were visiting from out of state and came across this nice little place. It was a refreshing change of pace from the german fare offered in Helen. For our appetizer we ordered the grit fritters because of a recommendation from another yelp review and they were delicious! For our entrees we had grilled trout with greens and black eyed peas and a creole pasta dish with added shrimp. The trout was very fresh and flavorful but the sauce in the pasta had a very strong alcohol taste. It should have been cooked a little longer. Service was excellent! We were promptly greeted by the owner as we were seated. When our waitress came to take our drink order we also placed an order for a baked sweet potato for our one year old. She was nice enough to bring it out with our drinks so that we could begin feeding her right away. There was also a gentleman playing music in the room where we ate and it created such a nice and relaxing ambience. We will definitely return here when we're in the area again.

Great place to enjoy a nice dinner, located just outside the main downtown. The food is awesome and the staff was wonderful. The owner came up to our table and thank us for visiting, and told us how much he really appreciated our business. I had the shrimp and grits which was some of the best I have had in a long time. Started with the fried grit fritter which were awesome. Highly recommend if your are visiting Helen.

On our way through the state of Georgia, we decided to stop at this cozy eatery. The food was excellent along with the service. And when the owner of an establishment comes out of the kitchen, shakes your hand and introduces them self randomly, it shows they have pride of their business. We highly recommend this place. Five stars*****

I'm visiting north Georgia for the first time & having a nice, cool, relaxed getaway. I was in the mood for some ribs in particular. Decided on this restaurant by the pictures on Yelp & it tastes just as good as it looks. I had bites of both their ribs entree & fried chicken entree, and they were both perfect in taste & presentation. I would like to go back soon!

I'm not exaggerating: this was one of the best meals of my life. I dined here this evening with my mother and grandmother. We were seated immediately; there was plenty of parking (rare in Helen). All told, we had a bruschetta, the complimentary rolls, two salads, salmon, and two desserts. Live music is provided on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We were seated very near the musician, but he was not overpowering or too loud. We could hear each other easily, but the music was beautiful: digital piano, light drum kit, guitar, voice. Tips are accepted (and deserved). The bruschetta was excellent. Clearly the ingredients were high quality; the basil in particular was sublimely sweet, and the flatbread it was on was cooked perfectly, neither too doughy nor burnt. The rolls similarly were well done (and also a tad sweet). Our waitress was excellent (tall, blonde, professional, knowledgeable, smart). When she did not know the answer to a question, she found out. I have an onion intolerance, and she helped me navigate the menu to find good onion-free options. I had the salmon (without the fruit salsa, sadly), and it was cooked throughout with crisp grill marks (I ordered it medium well). Reading other Yelp reviews, I tried the cheese grits as one side and ordered the green beans as the other. Both were hearty and excellent. My mother and grandmother each had the peach entree salad with chicken and a citrus vinaigrette. Dressings are made in-house, and the citrus (recommended by the server) complemented the salad perfectly. The only quibble we had with the entire experience was that neither my mother nor grandmother found any peaches at all in the (peach) salad. But the desserts lifted this from a good experience to a sublime experience. My mother ordered the caramel cheesecake. She expected caramel dripped over a plain cheesecake, but this creamy confection blended the caramel into the cheesecake. It was one of the best bites of cheesecake I have ever tasted. (My mother got territorial after the first bite). Again on the advice of the server, I tried the "strawberry shortcake sorbet." This unique dessert was a perfect blend of flavors and textures. It had a bottom layer of a crisp crumble (for crust), a rich strawberry sorbet, and whipped cream atop it. I believe the crisp makes the dessert, and I was surprised and impressed when the crumble maintained its crisp texture despite being under a slowly-melting sorbet. Even the last bite had a satisfying crunch. The sorbet was excellent; the strawberry flavor was full-bodied and intense; the cream provided a lighter counterpoint. It is not cheap, but it's reasonably priced--especially considering the quality. Including a 20 percent tip, the three of us escaped for less than $100.

After a strong recommendation from the staff at Lucille's B&B, my wife and I made a reservation for dinner. We were both very impressed with the service and meal (especially enjoyed the owner Mully coming by to greet us and ensure our needs were met). The highlights were the shrimp and grits (among the best we have had) and the Nacoochee Burger (huge and delicious.) Would highly recommend and certainly would revisit. The only negative was being sold out of their Pinot Noir by the glass and only option was another Pinot Noir sold exclusively by the bottle.

My wife and I were excited to eat here, because of the great reviews, but our experience wasn't a good one. I had the shrimp and grits, it's my favorite meal and other reviews have raved about it here. The dish had no flavor. It was so bland, I couldn't even finish it. I've had shrimp and grits at many other places, and this was by far the worst. My wife had the pork medallions with a pepper jack crust, she didn't eat but maybe 3 or 4 bites. I tasted it myself and could barely get it down because of the overpowering pepper taste. It also had a strange texture to it, it didn't taste like pork at all. Obviously, we won't be going back, but beyond the unimpressive food, we were sat next to the kitchen door and someone working inside was yelling at a coworker nearly our entire meal. They weren't arguing, but talking far too loud about several crude topics. Very disappointing experience all around.

This is now called Mully's Nachoochee Grill! And Mully's is usually here to greet patrons and handle their complaints. I've eaten here many times even under the previous owner and I like this place.

We had one of the best meals tonight that we've had the whole time we've been in Helen. Ed & I highly recommend Mully's Nacoochee Grill. I had the Shrimp & Nora Mill Grits & they were some of the BEST I've ever eaten. Ed had the Ribeye & not only was it prepared perfectly but was as tender as any Prime Rib I've ever eaten. The mashed potatoes were spot on. The broccoli was the only disappointment as it was overcooked in my opinion. Oh, I had the house salad with the homemade bacon vinegarette - Awesome!! We completed our meal wIth the Creme Brulee. . . Melt in your mouth great! ! We had the pleasure of meeting Mully, the owner. Such a wonderful treat! Thanks guys for a delIghtful meal! ! We'll be back. . . And spread the word to all of our friends headed up this way!

Great Fathers Day lunch. We had the Duck Nachos which were very good. For lunch we had the Babyback Ribs and the Smoked Salmon BLT. Both were awesome and very big portions. Took home the leftovers. Our server was very attentive, she was great! The owner made the rounds at our table and presented himself We look forward to going back.

Service was wonderful, ambiance seemed lovely (we sat outside after a long day but it seemed wonderful as we walked through the restaurant), and most importantly-- the food was delicious! I can't not order shrimp and grits when they're on a menu and these were great! I'm not sure how they made black eyed peas interesting but they were great too!

Stopped in here the eve of Thanksgiving. Seemed popular. They were having some $.45 wing night special. Didn't try the wings though. Food...was....OK....for what we got. Service was awful. Ordered appetizers...never got them. Server was slow, sloppy, and NOT very accomondating. Had ribs...they were okay. Companion had pot pie..it was cold. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Not worth it.

My husband, dsughter and I decided t o stop fir dinner here on our way to the lodge we wwere renting for the weekend. We were all glad we did. The food excellence was only surpassed by the warm and welcoming service by the staff starting with the owner himself. Starting with mouth watering mini biscuits each of our meals was that and more than we expected. My husband's burger could have fed all three of us. No, he wasn't sharing even a bite. My daughter had the fried chicken and saud it was the best she ever had. I fell in love wuth the grilled trout as ut was c omplimented by a sauce I would love to have the revipe in my cookbook. Add to this a nice list of wines including some very good local bottles and top off your meal with a simply delicious pumpkin spice martini and you have the reasins this restaurant will be on our list of vome on back places in Helen Ga..

I'd never eaten here before, and was pretty tipsy, so I was in a critical mood when I arrived. That said, I didn't hate it. We sat down immediately, which I understand is rare for a party of four just showing up at 8:00pm on a Friday with no reservation. It did take them awhile to figure out who was our server and a couple of additional trips for the waitress to take our order, but no harm done there, I suppose. I was very pleased that they carried Red Hare lager, which is local to Marietta. I was, however, disappointed that Sweetwater was nowhere to be found. I ordered the pork chop and got it with mashed potatoes. I was a little disappointed because I'm used to a 5-oz chop being an inch thick with the bone removed. These looked like a TV-dinner from the 1950's, but the gravy stood out to me as very tasty. One of us got the fish special, which was OK, and someone got a steak, which they didn't complain about. Like I said, we didn't hate it, but I left with the feeling that it'll be awhile before we return here. Total bill for two people with two rounds of drinks: $49 + tip.

Ate there last Friday evening. Food was good. They were out of the greens as a vegetable and it was early, the Salmon was under cooked but tasty. My husband and friends ordered the smoked trout corn chowder yummy, but the portion was skimpy. Did not see the owner but wait staff were attentive.. Larger portions of vegetables and side dishes woks be better. We might give it a try later this Summer.

Update-We went back after almost a year and it was not as good as the first time we went. They have new owners and the food was just OK. Tried the duck tacos and definitely not as good as they were. DUCK TACOS! Oh my goodness they were awesome!!! Great food! And they had a cucumber salad that was great!

Lunch there today was quite possibly the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant. When I saw the hostess pick up menus on copy paper, I thought,"Yay! A fresh daily menu!" Not. To be concise, the lunch burger ($8), made a McDonald's cheeseburger look gourmet. I had the chicken salad sandwich which was completely devoid of any flavor except "this has been sitting around since last Tuesday." My side salad was served in a ramekin- for real. Disgusting place. I hope we don't get sick.

I have been to Nacoochee Grill dozens of times and have even left positive reviews here. I look forward to dining here everytime we come up so needless to say, I was excited to go this time. We arrived around 6:45 on a Sunday. There was a 35 minute wait, but with half price beer and wine, we figured we would wait in the bar and enjoy ourselves. Wrong. The small bar was standing room only as a family of 5 took up most of the seats, with kids stretched out on the bar floor playing video games. There was no bartender. The lady tending the bar was also serving 5 tables. We were never offered drinks - I only got a drink once I finally got her attention on her way in between tables. She was nice enough but obviously hurried. Our wait took longer than the 35 minutes, which wasn't the biggest deal since we weren't that hungry and were watching the game on the TV behind the bar, but its a pet peeve of mine for a restaurant to give unrealistic wait times. When we were finally seated, we passed several tables of dirty dishes (ew!) and were seated by the bathrooms in a broken booth, with dirty tables all around us. Just gross. My husband's menu had water stains that made the writing hard to read. Everything just seemed dirty. Worst of all, we sat. And sat. Several employees passed us, but we were never acknowledged. No one said our waiter/waitress would be by a minute. No one said anything. No water, no nothing. So we left. Worst of all, while we waited, my husband read an article NG posted on the wall that essentially bragged about how they downgraded the decor of the restaurant. I think they downgraded more than that... This is a totally different experience than when I visited last and I am sad to see it. I'm hoping tonight was a fluke and that the problems were due to understaffing. My rating of one star rates my experience for Sunday, January 15th. Again, I repeat - I hope tonight was a fluke because I truly love this place and want it to be great. However, I'm not sure when I will be able to convince my hubby to return...

Both my steak and my wife's came out overcooked. I asked for medium and she asked for medium well but both came out well done. The quality of the meat was also lacking. My ribeye was maybe half an inch thick and her filet more closely resembles a ground beef patty. The steaks were not even worthy of an Applebee's. Very disappointing. $55 spent on just those two steaks alone, terrible. Table was sticky when we sat down. There is no way it was wiped down before we were seated. I don't usually write bad reviews but I felt like I should warn fellow diners before they go out and drop $75 on a dinner for two here, leaving with nothing but disappointment and a lighter wallet.

I've had better. The grit fritters were very good, I have to give them that. Service was extremely slow. I had a burger which is pretty hard to screw up. My wife ordered the trout which was full of bones. It wasn't worth the wait or the price. The fries were frozen ridge cut french fries anyone can buy and cook at home.

Depends upon what your expectations are walking in, but for the price, I have had A LOT better. The wait time was about 30 minutes, but interestingly enough, there were plenty of open tables (suggestion to the management: get rid of reservations). We went on Saturday night, Oct. 13, 2012. The first problem was the bathroom; there was no soap in the men's room at all. I notified the management and they said that they knew that and were sorry. Sorry?!? Send someone to the nearest grocery or pharmacy and BUY some. How is the staff suppose to wash before handling food (especially in flu season) without soap. It was disgusting to think about, and the night was young (6 pm). On to the food: I am not expecting Ruth Chris Steakhouse in Helen GA, but for the prices, I would expect reasonably higher quality food. I ordered the All You Can Eat special, which was Prime Rib for $20. When a restaurant does an "all you can eat" deal, they should anticipate many orders and be ready. The prime rib that was delivered was cut very thin, with a side of garlic and a hint of spinach. By the time the waitress served all the meals to my family, I was already done with my sliver of prime rib and requested another one. By the third serving, the chef was apparently sick of me utilizing their "all you can eat" deal. The last serving was well-done, even though I asked for medium rare. My kids shared a salmon BLT sandwich, which was large enough for both to share and be full - IF they liked it. The salmon was served cold and the bacon was undercooked (and a fatty cut at that!). Not sure why they add slices of cucumber to a BLT (or is it a BLC?). My wife had a country salad and calamari appetizer that was also disappointing. Oh well - you don't know until you try, but I won't be impressed by the Trip Advisor and Yelp stickers on the front door next time. I will actually check the reviews first.

We have been there two times and plan to return EVERY time we pass through. The smoked corn chowder and duck tacos were to die for! The trout was excellent and the hamburger was large and yummy. Service was great and we loved eating by the fireplace on a cold evening.

This is on the higher end of restaurants in Helen, I'd wager. Good service. We shared a smoked salmon bruschetta appetizer and I had the shrimp cobb salad. We all really liked what we got. If you want a fancier dining option or a nicer date place, I'd say to check this out. I did get slightly freaked out when my friend noticed (on our way out, how typical) that they had a 72-C rating on the door. None of us died though so maybe they were having a bad day when the inspector came in? EEeeee!

Under new management as Mully's Nacoochee Grill. We had a phenomenal dinner here tonight with great service. The owner swung by to chat and make sure everything was okay. Grit fritters, hot pimento cheese and chipotle-molasses BBQ ribs were all amazing!

Overall this place was just OK I guess. My husband had wings, fries, and a salad, and I had a crab cake sandwich with fries. They had Pespi products, which is rare in Georgia establishments (not including places like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC, etc), so that was a turn off for us, so we had sweet tea instead which was sub-par. Service was just OK too. When I asked where the bathroom was, the guy at the hostest stand pointed to the sign above him. True, I neglected to look, but that was just rude and poor customer service. Making your guests feel stupid is not the way to go, but since he was about 15, I shrugged it off. For the price, it was not bad, but guess we expected a little better.

Stopped in last night on a recommendation from our hotel - one of two given, so not a lot of options. Heard pizza joint in the same lot was great, but not in the mood at all. First off, our server was very good. Friendly, attentive, helpful, and let us sample the smoked trout chowder - which I recommend. I even sampled a few beers before making my choice. Love that. Food was good, not great. No bread was served with our meal, although we did not ask, but since I ordered fish - should be standard. Salt and pepper trout had a great flavor and was a nice size. Chicken pot pie was not as savory as hoped. Recent reviews seem to reflect a diminished quality or value from the past, and I can see where these may be coming from. I suspect they will pull it together though or see another management change. Great location and draw from nearby spots. Worth giving a try and sticking with the menu options they are known for.

We ate there for lunch today. I don't know whether they were having a really off day or what, but it was not nearly as good as the last time we were there (June, 2012). We were seated and then waited for almost 20 minutes before we were brought water. The owner greeted us during this period, but didn't notice that no one had gotten us water, etc. One of our party's salmon was very under-done. Another had requested a salmon BLT without the bacon. It came with bacon. I asked for fries as a side with a sandwich and got chips - and fries a few minutes later. Everyone was very friendly - it just seemed that things were not coming together. The food was serviceable, but nothing was above average. The sense we got was that they were missing critical staff and were just doing the best that they could.

Read some mixed reviews, but was in the area for work, and met some folks here. Turns out this place has some really great food. We tried a few other places in the area and this was by far the best. Loved the local wine and it was priced very well. We ate here a few time, and I find myself eager to schedule the next trip to Helen just to eat here again! Staff were very friendly and helpful. I was surprised at the negative reviews because I had such a great experience. Ate at the tavern next door for lunch and dinner and also had great food. I am a fan!

Bland food!! horrendous service!! small portions!! We attempted to place an order to go. The first time I called I was treated like they had no idea how to orchestrate a to-go order and they quickly placed me on hold. I waited for almost 5 minutes before hanging up and calling again. When I did, the guy that took my order was obviously frustrated having to take my order. he mostly said "yeah" when I was calling out my order. when I said "...and that's all" he quickly hung up without getting my name, calling my order back, giving me an estimated time or telling me my total. When arriving to pick up the order they did not have a clue where it was and we had to wait. Someone else was picking up their to-go order and was obviously was having issues as well. We heard them say "this is the third time...This is unacceptable." Our food was pathetic. We ordered buffalo wings. they are supposed come with celery but there was no celery. They were supposed to have buffalo sauce on the wings but there was no sauce. It was just dry overcooked chicken. We paid $9 for that entree. We also ordered shrimp and grits with a side salad. What we got was a small sad portion of grits in a bland sauce with a few chewy shrimp. I swear it tasted like they ran out of heavy cream for the grits and put whipped cream in instead. It also had large chunks of garlic in the sauce. The chef on duty clearly has no idea how shrimp and grits are supposed to taste. Furthermore, it cost us $15 for that entree. I was ROBBED! The staff here knows that most people will not return so they do not care. Please avoid this place.

So disappointing. We were really anticipating a great dinner and the food was awful. Every establishment has an "off" day sometimes, and that is understandable, but this was more than an off day. The service was HORRIBLE, the restaurant was dirty, the food was cold & not prepared correctly, and after terrible service and almost 3 hours there, we still had 20% gratuity automatically added to our check. I am all about tipping for great service...I've actually tipped up to 40% before b/c service & food was stellar, but this service didn't deserve more than a penny. The staff was so detached and unattentive and just didn't seem to care if you were there or not. You occasionally see a server like this, but when the ENTIRE staff is like this it makes you wonder how they're being led. Obviously the management sucks. We were told "April" the manager would take good care of us, yet she never came out once, even after multiple orders were delivered incorrectly to our table & the server couldn't figure out the computer system. No apologies, no thanks for dining with us, nothing. We sat by the window & noticed the people across the street at the pizza place having a fabulous time. We'll try the pizza place next, but we will NEVER return to Nacoochee Grill. Save yourselves $$ and headaches and go elsewhere. A restaurant that wants your business will treat you well. You'd be better off at the Wendy's down the street. Seriously.

Simply the best place in Helen to eat fine food at cheap prices. Too bad I found this place our last night in town otherwise we would've been here everyday. Their menu has lots of choices and all our dishes were very good. Starting with the Trout and Salmon corn chowder was very very good. The only bad thing was the serving portions were a little too small. Their meatloaf was one of the tastiest and delicious. It was just a little too spicy specially for someone who doesn't like spicy food but I do so it was ok. The glazed Salmon was just excellent and last but not least the key lime pie was very good. Our service was needless to say great. I highly recommend this place for it's food and service. I would give this place it's fifth star simply if their portions were slightly bigger. You will not be dissappointed and I can say it because when it comes to food I am very picky.

This was a good place to eat. It needed a little extra to get that 5th star. The Spinach Dip was real good, the chips were not, but it was a very good start. Wife had the Smoked Trout Chowder and it was very good. Ceasar Salad was good, but lacking flavor. The Country Salad on the other hand was very good. Burgers were fine. I saw some inconsistency with service, biscuits going to tables, none on mine, a table beside us the food did not come out together with one guest waiting a good while for his pate while his other table mates were almost finished. For the price and the food it was a good place.

We make sure to always stop for Breakfast before we leave Helen. The prices are great and the food is pretty tasty as far as Helen goes. The eggs tend to be a bit overcooked in the Benedict's, but the variety of Benedict choices and the hollandaise sauce is great. The omelets are always done well and are very large... Filling breakfast no matter what choice you make. The mimosas are only $4.00, so when the OJ is $2.00, why not add some champagne for just $2.00 more?!

This is one of the best non-tourist restaurants Helen has to offer. The staff and the chef are friendly and attentive. They have revamped their menu a bit - adding some burgers and lower priced alternatives to their steak, seafood and other fare. I had a Chipotle BBQ Cheddar Bacon Burger last night, and it was quite tasty. My wife had the Blackened and Blue burger - burger with cajun seasonings and crumbled blue cheese on top. Both were cooked to order, juicy and very flavorful. We have eaten here many times, eating nightly specials, steaks, wine tasting dinners, etc, but sometimes you just want a burger - Kudos to Chef Mike for keeping things fresh. They have recently repainted the interior and are in the process of adding a full bar - soon to have draft beer and mixed drinks to go with their wine and beer by the bottle list. Check it out - you won't be disappointed!

I spent 5 nights in a vacation home in Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains area. One day, after hiking the Anna Ruby Falls, my sisters and I decided to stop for dinner. I'm sure the menu has probably changed since my visit, but the food was DELICIOUS. I would love to get the recipe for the corn chowder - it was homemade and tasted SO GOOD that I should have ordered seconds :) Visit nacoocheegrill.com for the menu and more information.

For Helen first-timers, we were a little afraid to stop and eat for fear of the usual tourist syndrome of overpriced lousy food. But boy did we get lucky! NG is located outside of the cutesy alpine village in the center of town, and the decor is a little nicer inside. There's quite a wide range of choices on the menu and it's a little hard to believe it's all good, but the salmon was a total surprise and very good. I can't even describe the glaze but it was really nice. The grit fritters were just delicious! This has to be on our return list when we come back this fall.

I had a wonderful experience. It was a group of 4 of us and we were trying to decide what we should have for dinner. We had a map of different places to go to and we decided on this particular restaurant. I am sooo glad we decided on this place because the food was yummy. I had the spinach dip as my appetizer which was delicious and for the main course, I had the NY strip steak. Everything was beyond my expectations. Chef Mike was just a joy to talk tool!!!! Melissa our server was just on top of everything we needed. Please, please visit this place when you are in Helen. Cannot go wrong with great food.......

This is not only the best place to eat in Helen - if you want good food done right - this is only place to eat in Helen! The soups were VERY good, the jalepeno corn bread was good (but dry), cheese grits were pretty good, but their specialty meat loaf was OUTSTANDING! If we had stayed longer in Helen we would have eaten here over and over - because most other things in Helen are just tourist traps with poor quality food, service, and atmosphere. The Nacoochee Grill was a diamond in the proverbial goat's rear end.

As a local resident, in the past we have enjoyed dining at the grill, I was very disappointed in the service we received on Friday night. We arrived around 7:30 to be met by an apathetic hostess that looked at us like she wished we would disappear. We asked for a table for 3 while there were several empty tables she stated it would be maybe 20 min. in order to clear the tables. Another party of 8 walked in as she rolled her eyes she told them she could not tell them how long the wait would be and offered to make them reservations for Saturday if they would be around. She never directed us or any other folks to the bar to have a drink while we wait. The waitress seemed distracted, the pork was too salty, the salmon was skimpy and it was not a pleasant experience at all.

Easily the best restaurant in Helen. Sadly, that's not saying much. This wouldn't be a four star restaurant in a big city; they'd need to work on a few things first--better salads, better sides. But they do make a brilliant steak (I had a rare filet that was awesome). I have also heard very good things about their fish and rack of lamb. Would like to try the veal meatloaf sometime; it sounds very unique & delicious. Overall, a very nice place to have a meal and certainly the best place I've been to in the area.

Best ribs I've ever eaten!! This place is affordable and amazing. We topped our trip off with dinner here and then a funnel cake on the main strip! The funnel cake place with the awning and picnic tables outside the entrance will blow your mind and are the most amazing anywhere. And try some sourwood honey from the boiled peanut place on your way to anna ruby falls!

My wife and I went here the weekend we got engaged, thinking that it looked like the nicest place in Helen to celebrate such an event. That was about three years ago. It was a very mediocre meal at that time, but my wife insisted going back about two weeks ago when we returned to Helen for a weekend getaway. The server was brand new and had no support from management. He paid no attention to us and kept coming to our table to apologize instead of refilling drinks and asking how things were. He kept saying, "you all have been so great. You're a blessing to me." We had crabcakes which arrived cold and my pork chop was very obviously cooked earlier that afternoon or morning and then reheated when I ordered it. It tasted like shoe leather. But I ate it because we were trying to not make a scene and complain and frankly, by this time that evening, I was very hungry. Immediately upon returning to our hotel room, I vomited for 45 minutes. -Hadn't done that in over 10 years. Ever since, I've been sick and finally agreed to go to the doctor yesterday. The jury is still out as for the cause, but considering that this place is certainly not worth the money, spend your time and money somewhere else in Helen. The restaurant looks nice and appears semi-upscale. But after trying it twice, it still is just awful. I don't know why anyone would waste their money. Thanks for two weeks of sickness, and now antibiotics, Nacoochee Grill.

Sadly, this is your best dining option in the area. I mean, it's good, but your other choices are Huddle House, Wendy's, or 6 different candy shops. So they get pretty slammed on the weekends. We waited an hour and a half Saturday night, which would totally not be worth it if we were in Atlanta. Duck tacos weren't ducky enough and were overshadowed by the sauce. What a waste of duck. The shrimp and grits were good but salty. Monkfish special was prepared well. And the creme brulee was standard. Service was mixed. Our server seemed to be friendly enough and met our requests, but he was absent most of the meal. He didn't bring us any bread, didn't clear the dishes, and failed to refill our waters. There were a few empty tables in the back room and on the porch yet there was a long waiting list. Worth a try but not worth the wait. Get there early.

Without a doubt, not just one of the best restaurants in Helen, but North Georgia! Mike Sheppard is a tremendously talented chef. We drive over an hour one way to eat there frequently. Very nice staff there as well. Duck tacos are amazing. Ribs are out of this world. And their shrimp and grits are non comparable. How someone can take something as simple as grits (grit fritters)and turn them into a masterpiece the way Chef Mike does is really a gift. I would recommend Nacoochee Grill to anyone.

Found this place on accident since our original plan included a great yelp recommendation that was closed on Sunday.. anyways, the only place to eat in Helen. Forget the crowds and the cheesy town, wait till you get outside the craziness and eat at this place that doesn't look like a wannabe German house. This place has excellent service. Our waiter Lucas was very attentive and paid attention to detail in service, eye contact, etc. all the little things a waiter should do. The hostess was ok- I asked nicely if we could sit by the window and she didn't roll her eyes at me, but I felt like she did. Atmosphere is great, cozy but not too formal. Prices are reasonable for a nice dinner. I had the special appetizer- ny strip egg rolls. Amazaing! Well presented and enough for 2. Rolls- raisin scone and cheddar biscuit. Raisin scone was good but more of my breakfast with a cup of coffee scone. Cheddar biscuit was good. Main meal- Veal meatloaf (with jalapenos) and baked sweet potato. Very top notch. In my top 3 of meatloaf meals. Very tasty with the jalapenos (with a kick). Mushroom sauce was ok but the meatloaf was extremely full of flavor. Sweet potatoes were delicious with the side of cinnamon butter. Dessert was amazing! Chocolate Mouse Cake. Too much for 1 but enough for 2. Too rich to eat alone. Creamy, rich, burst of chocolate flavor. Would have licked the plate but I was in public. Would go here again- next time, I may order the duck tacos for an appetizer. I almost did, but was not disappointed in what I got.

I had a very nice meal here last week while visiting Helen. I had a steak special which was excellent. Ambience was nothing to write home about but was okay. Staff was attentive.

I am a fan!

  • Travis L.

I've had better. The grit fritters were very good, I have to give them that. Service was extremely slow. I had a burger which is pretty hard to screw up. My wife ordered the trout which was full of bones. It wasn't worth the wait or the price. The fries were frozen ridge cut french fries anyone can buy and cook at home.

promptly seated by a nice hostess.
