I was in town for training and been reading reviews about this place and I decided to try it. I was a little sad that they didn't have the seafood buffet anymore. But the rest of the food was great. The pot roast, fried chicken, and Salisbury steak was soo good. Its like a good home cooked country/soul food buffet. They had a decent salad bar. They had fried fish that tasted great. Their peach cobbler was the best that I have ever had. Their strawberry cake was so good too. Not sweet at all. The cook was really friendly and I told him that his food tastes great and thanked him! Super nice waitress as well. I will be back when I am in town for training.

Everything I put in my mouth at this place was delicious! Great service, friendly people. We went on a Sunday afternoon ( they are only open for lunch) we indulged in the buffet. I literally had one bite of every single item and wasn't disappointed once! They have pot roast, meatloaf, chicken, Salisbury steak, chicken fried steak, catfish, tilapia, pulled pork, an amazing salad bar, mac and cheese, scalloped potatoes, Brunswick stew, stuffing/ dressing, broccoli casserole, cabbage casserole, every veggie you can think of. Home made everything like desserts to die for. Eclair cake, banana pudding, cherry, blueberry and apple cobbler just to name a few. Everything.. Fruits, veggies and meats are bought locally and made fresh daily! It's nothing short of amazing.

Cool place. The lunch buffet was well prepared and a great selection. Country food at its best. We were made to feel very welcomed. I would recommend it.

This is in a cute little downtown across from a cool looking courthouse. The place itself seems a bit worn and rather creepy. They were out of BBQ and the steak. When the ordered a bacon cheeseburger they were also out of bacon. It seems like they really want you to get the buffet. The burger was rather greasy, and soaked the bun to the point, I had to just remove the bun and eat it without a bun. The onion rings would have been good, but they also were rather greasy. all in all, I was rather disappointed with this place. I wanted to like it, and the server seemed friendly, but the lack of food, and the grease was a detraction. One thing strange, is that they want to charge 1.95 for a coke ... ok, but then they want to charge 1.95 for each refill as well. I am sorry, but I can go to the grocery store and buy an entire six pack for 2.00 and so I expect free refills when I go out to a restaurant.

Good chicken and pork chops. Mac and cheese was very cheesy, but a little soggy. The salad bar looked old and tired, but the staff readily replaced the lettuce to less brown, but slightly white iceberg. I'm sure the salad is better when it isn't the middle of winter. Welcoming and attentive staff. $10 per person, adults or children

Okay, I have to come back when they have my favorite sides on the buffet. My sister and I ate lunch here today. It was pretty good. I give them an A+ on their fried chicken. I kept biting holes in my sister's whenever she wasn't looking at me. It's seasoned to the bone and very juicy. Even the breasts were moist, crispy, and flavorful. Kudos to the chefs. I ordered a barbecue sandwich with house cut fries. The fries were not as crispy as i like and a tad on the greasy side. Otherwise, they were good. I got a generous portion with my sandwich and I love their bbq sauce. I asked for seconds. My sister got the buffet. I didn't get it because there was no macaroni and cheese nor mashed potatoes. The meats on the bar looked scrumptious. Even their steak and gravy with onions looked great but they had no white rice. They had flavored rice and I just can't imagine eating any of what they had without plain white rice. Nor can I imagine a southern/comfort food buffet missing macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes. So I just ordered my entree' and a sweet tea. What I had was good. My sister said the food on the bar was good. She enjoyed it very much. Once again, just not what I wanted. When I inquired about the mac n' cheese and the other classic starches you look forward to seeing on a southern style buffet I was told that they didn't have them today. A good solid 3 stars for good food and very friendly customer service. I shall return on a day when they have what I would on the buffet and possibly bump up the ratings based on my second visit.

Food was gross. Tried two different salad dressings, both tasted sour. The bbq pork was gross and the catfish was sour as well. This buffet was on the expensive side, $13+.

It used to be fantastic but the service has declined. We called on a Sunday while we were en route. The employee said if we arrived before the resturant closed, we'd be fine. But they'd locked the doors before closing time! The employee looked at us through the glass door. We had to negotiate our way in for a to-go plate after answering a series of questions. 'Who did you talk to? What did they say?' etc. But by then they'd already removed half of the food from the buffet. They reluctantly put it back and then said we could sit and eat. We tried but the kitchen staff kept walking by and then kind of stood over us like they were ready to go home. We took the hint and packed everything up and headed to the register. Then I got the sticker shock, around $12 per plate! This is with a 'govt discount.' That might have been worth it if we got to sit down and actually enjoy the buffet. But they weren't welcoming, the food tasted like it had been sitting out and there was a limited selection. The nail on the coffin was the female manager's attitude. She blamed the employee who answered the phone and said she'd given him a good talking to. There aren't a lot of good, affordable restaurants in the area so we have since returned. But I wouldn't recommend going on a Sunday or near closing time.

We are glad to have another non-chain restaurant to choose from in our little town of Forsyth. I have been for both the breakfast bar and the Dinner buffet. I was impressed with each. The bar is small enough that they can maintain quality in their food but it is large enough that you have variety. For breakfast: They have perfectly cooked bacon, but the oatmeal is what I would write home about. I am sure it cannot be heart healthy because it must be made with heavy cream but the taste is fantastic! For Dinner: The mashed potatoes were good, as was the mac and cheese. I really liked the turnips, the fried chicken looked great but I didn't have any. The squash and potato casseroles were good. Desert was so delicious! I am not a big chocolate fan but the brownie desert was amazing, I hate to admit that I ate a small salad plate full of it. It was like hot brownie batter in the bottom then crunchy slightly salty brownie on top with cherries. Yummy! Plus the staff is friendly and I think most if not all are family so they have a vested interest in your visit.

We chose The Prime Palate from internet listings in an area we were traveling through & hoped we made a good choice. They serve buffet style, but have 2 price levels which was nice. My husband has a much bigger appetite than I do. We were both very pleased with the choices, freshness and flavor of the food. I had sliced prime rib that was so tender you could cut it with a fork. It was among the best I have ever eaten. The side dishes were Southern in nature and really good. Peach cobbler was my choice for dessert. Servers were pleasant and welcoming. You can't go wrong here.

A quaint restaurant with a southern Flo from Alice feel in terms of the service. Arrived about 45 min from closing. Decided on the dinner buffet for 11.99 and the baby had the 8.99 chicken fingers and fries. The food looked and tasted like it was sitting for awhile. I made a point to try a bite of everything. The food had decent flavor but a bit salty and a bit dry or soggy from sitting. I think it would be a lot better if I came when they opened for dinner and the food was fresher (and possibly a better review). The baby's food came out on the greasy side and she only ate a few fries. She did have a couple pieces of watermelon from the salad bar, first time she ate watermelon. The dessert was ok, once again I think it would have been better fresh. I had the peach cobbler and red velvet. The cake slices were perfectly sliced for that small or just enough bite to satisfy the taste buds for that bit of sweet at the end the dinner. (They did have a little bit bigger slices for those who have to satisfy the sweet tooth too :)) the one thing that did rub me the wrong way some was when I checked out, the waitress commented that she was glad that the baby wasn't loud. The restaurant only had one other family when i arrived and they were finishing up. I would give it 3.5 stars because I think the flavor of the food was good, I just arrived not at the best time.

The place was good. Based on others' reviews I expected something special. There was a decent selection of food. The food was slightly better than ok. I really liked the roll I had with dinner. The staff was sweet. We paid $9.99 p/person for dinner. I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

So obviously I'm from the North, and I have experienced a lot of firsts on this trip. Let me explain a little on how I found this restaurant... So I got done with class the other day, and a few of the other instructors and I were driving around town. We found a little history and got out to take some pictures. Across the street was a little fresh market stand set up. As I walked across the street towards the market, one of the instructors from Wisconsin called me over and handed me a "grape-like" object. He had me try it, said it was sweet, and so I did, thereby enjoying my first scuppernong. We got to talking to the gentleman at the farm stand, and he mentioned he had boiled peanuts. So I told him that I'd never had a boiled peanut and that I needed to try them! So now I'm a fan of boiled peanuts. But wait, I haven't gotten to the meat and potatoes of my story yet, have I? No? I digest... So there was another gentleman talking to the man running the farm stand, and we all got into a conversation (i.e. Southern hospitality). So the man from the farm stand says, "I don't normally do this, but if y'all want to eat some good food, y'all need to eat at this man's restaurant. It's called the Prime Palate, and I'll tell you what, it's good food!" So I smile and continue the story by stating, "If that was the same food we were smelling the other day when we were looking at the monuments by the courthouse and we all stopped dead in our tracks, then you'd better believe we'll be over there tomorrow!" Apparently, it's all one in the same. It turns out we were talking to Freddy Butts, the owner. So we left out with my new taste for scuppernong and a fresh warm bag of boiled peanuts, and promised Freddy that we'd stop by his restaurant for lunch. We did. Best decision I've made in a long time!!! We walked into the restaurant only to discover that we'd walked back in time. The building was built as part of the Southern Railroad and this was the high-end stopover location for travelers. We were told that Al Capone had stopped by there to rest on his way to Florida. We sat down and were handed menus, but then we were told that the buffet was $7!!! Can you believe that??? $7 and all you can eat! So on to the buffet... I grabbed a plate and stood there. Numbed. Indecisive. Salad bar behind me, and fresh Southern food in front of me. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I went for the greens. They MELTED they were so tender! Green beans? Awesome! Mac and cheese? You'd better believe it was great! Oh crap, I'm almost out of room on my plate. I'll grab some breaded pork chops. Oh my! Because I would still like to live, I will say that they were very good and come into a close second to my wife's! (Love you, honey!) Haha! I'm not done, I had to go back. Did I forget to mention I was drinking tea? Of course it was sweet, this is the South. I could order tea, and get it, without having to brew my own. Awesome. So anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, seconds. I went back for the biscuits. I had one that melted in my mouth, no butter needed, and the other buttermilk biscuit was amazing! And then I had a taste of the pulled pork with homemade BBQ sauce! Oh my! Let me just tell you about the homemade BBQ sauce. Your first taste of this BBQ sauce hits you with what I think might be apricot preserves, and then a mild heat follows pleasantly behind that. It's not overly hot, but more warm and fuzzy delicious. So I had some space left on my plate, and I had still more optoins. Did I want to try the peach cobbler, or did I want to try a slice of cake? More decisions. I opted for the peach cobbler. I can't even begin to describe the deliciousness. Fresh peaches, topped with and sweet cake topping, and there were pecans, and I'm pretty sure maybe some tapioca as a binder. It was fantastic! If it was a cobbler, and it's the best cobbler I've had since I can remember. If it was bread pudding with peaches, then it was the best bread pudding I've had! And if it was a combination of all of the above, then buddy, that's what I ate, and it was good! So why was Freddy at the farmers market? I forgot to mention that at the beginning of my story. He buys his food fresh, every day, from the same people. All his ingredients are fresh. Nothing, and I repeat, nothing I tasted today even hinted at ever being stored in a container other than it's own skin or hide. I will definitely come back before I leave for home. In fact, as I type this, one of the other instructors just sent me a text asking if we were going to try their breakfast! Haha! Yes. Yes we are. I glanced at the menu at lunch and looked at the breakfast choices. French toast - $2. I'll give you a minute for that to sink in... Normally that's the price of a cup of coffee or large orange juice where I come from. I have a feeling that breakfast is going to be fantastic as well!

Lunch is daggum good, filled with treats like hand-pattied hamburger steaks in gravy, pulled pork, and fried chicken. The vegetables are good, too. I caught dinner here one night, and it, too, was fantastic. Overall, this is just a great little family owned southern cookin buffet. Edited: they no longer have breakfast.

OMG! My friend Christina and I had an appointment in Forsyth Ga, small town USA and this was an amazing find. Everything and I mean everything we had for lunch was the best. It is buffet style and it is all home cooked southern food at it's best! The price was like $7.95 for all the goodness one could eat. The next time I am south of Atlanta I will drive out of my way to eat here, not because I am a buffet fan, )i am not) but because the taste of everything was superb.

Driving from Chicago to Orlando stopped in Forsyth for a quick pit stop. After passing up the typical fast food joints came a cross this cute little town that resembles The one in Back to the Future. Found the Prime Palate filled friendly locals serving better then home cooked food. Their Ribeye tender, juicy & full of flavor that would give the best Chicago steak house a run for their money. Their fried chicken was so juicy with just the right amount of seasoning that our 10 year old requested that we make this place our annual stopping spot when going to Florida. 2 minutes off of I75 it would be a mistake to pass this one up!!!!

We were passing through Georgia on our way back home to Tampa and found this little gem. We asked the front desk at the KOA to recommend some local (not chain type) restaurants. they referred us to a restaurant that wasn't even open on Saturdays! We found the Prime Palate on this site and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! The buffet was awesome! Not like the big buffet places you see where you're not sure how long the food has been sitting there. Everything was fresh! I especially enjoyed all the fresh vegetables and seafood buffet. Worth your time to stop in. Delicious food, friendly staff, cute decor. Will definately come here again!!!

This place is fully small town and totally a great place to get lunch. I had the buffet and everything I chose was delicious - excellent fried chicken (that goes a long way). It's cheap, the service is friendly, and if you're in Forsyth you're out of excuses.

Food is simply delicious. We like to avoid chains and eat local whenever possible. This place is definitely worth a stop. It's not far from 75, pass right by all those chains clustered by highway. Fried chicken is superb. We normally avoid buffets (too easy to consume mass quantities), but are delighted we made an exception. We will be back next time we're passing through.

Traveling out of North Georgia on I-75 and needed a lunch break. Tired of same old fast food and chain restaurants. Checked Yelp and found The Prime Palate across from the Forsyth courthouse and not too far from the highway. Delicious and authentic southern buffet with everything from rutabaga to red velvet cake. Southern fresh squash casserole, beans, salad bar, fried chicken etc. Plenty of choice and less than $8 per person. Breakfast and dinner buffets served at standard meal times also. We'll be back.
