This place is delicious. I had the shrimp and grits and they were awesome. The fried green tomatoes are great as well. Had the chocolate "mound" mousse dessert, and it was delicious, too. Overall, great experience and can't wait to return.

What a terrific place for lunch - nice atmosphere and great food. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the view of the flowers and herbs planted there. Ordered sandwiches - pineapple chicken salad on croissant which was excellent. The chicken salad was good, but the croissant made it fabulous. The cole slaw was not your typical cabbage and dressing and was very tasty. My husband went with the Reuben and it was also very good. Fresh marble rye bread made it as visually appealing as it was tasty. Partnered with pasta salad and it was outstanding. We will return

I came here for lunch with my coworker and was very pleased with the setting and decor of the restaurant. The restaurant had a very nice European feel to it. There was also a bakery inside where you can get desserts to go. I had the sausage trio variety that came with 3 different sausages, potatoes, pretzel bread, and sauerkraut. It was recommended by my coworker who is a regular here. My food tasted great but my coworker's food did not taste that good. The potatoes salad was not good and they managed to melt the cheese on top of the tomatoes. On initial questioning of my coworker's dish, our waitress really didn't offer any kind of service or solution to the issue. We talked to her about the dish again and she really didn't say much. Well, we asked for a manager to speak with and the waitress ended up taking the price of the dish off. Which my coworker barely touched her food. I didn't give this place 5 stars as I wished the waitress would of provided better customer service for the first 2 times when we questioned the food. The food was definitely a bit pricey for lunch but it is definitely worth it!

The bakery selection is incredible: mini cannolis, key lime tarts, and fruit tarts. They have truffles, stollen, petit fours, cakes, and tons of other pastries. Their mini pastries are 95 cents each. They can pack up those pastries into paper muffin cups and into a box so it will not get smushed. Their service is overall trying but sometimes confused and/or slow. They charge you a plate charge if you buy your pastry and eat it there. The food is five stars though. Very great for a party or host gift.

Great for a business lunch, ladies lunch, date night, etc! My fave lunch is the Cafe Club. Fave dinner is the Spatsle. Wonderful owners, delicious bakery items, great service. I often order two dozen rolls when I am having a dinner party - no one makes them better, especially me.

My advice to you.........never book a reservation here for a special holiday. We went the Saturday evening before Mother's Day with a 7:00pm reservation. We were not seated until 7:45. Bread and water were brought out fairly quickly but after that we got NOTHING. Luckily we were having a wonderful time talking and it was a beautiful evening because the server , who was assigned way too many tables, never even asked us if we would like wine. ( That would have helped!) We asked her if we could order a bottle of wine and it finally came. Then after about another 30 min. she took our order. We got a bowl of soup that came after about another 30 min. We were stlll sitting there at 9:30 waiting on our food. The waitress came by and curtly informed us it would be out shortly. I think not.......by this time we were starving and very irritated. After talking to the manager who made the excuse of Mother's Day Weekend and they were very busy, we left the restaurant with our stomachs growling! We went straight to a Mexican restaurant where we were served immediately and with appreciation for us being a customer. Wish we had just gone there in the first place!!!!!!!!!! City Cafe, you don't have to feel like you are doing us any favors! There are plenty of outstanding restaurants in our area. City Cafe is just NOT one of them!!!!!!!

My birthday was approaching and I didn't want a local grocery cake..went on Yelp and had a AH HA moment when I saw City Cafe... I have eaten there over the years and always enjoyed it but had forgotten about the bakery.... So I ordered my cake. It was ready the next day...my Bday... It was FANTASTIC...We had a party with a couple of cakes with this one as the centerpiece. My guest raved about the City Cafe cake!! BTW their cannoli's are the best on the planet...

I am so glad this place exists!!! It has wonderful array of tarts. The chocolate raspberry tart was to die for!!!

I'm a regular at City Cafe and have nothing but rave reviews. The atmosphere is unique, quaint, and cozy. Service has always been top notch, prompt, and courteous. The menu is also unique with many different flavors that are well prepared and moderately priced. They offer a bakery section that is out of this world from cheesecake, cookies, fruit, and other pastries. By far the most impressive restaurant in Fayetteville. Only knock - they have odd hours and parking is limited (especially because they are busy all the time)

I do love the atmosphere and 95% of the food. I have to say, Oktoberfest is a GREAT celebration here. Their German fare is very good and pairs perfectly with a cold beer and the crisp, coolness of fall air.

  • Robin S.

Oktoberfest here rocks.....great food and great beers. The bakery will sell you on the place if nothing else. Inside is a bit loud and close together seating, so sit outside if you can.

City Cafe & Bakery advertises itself as "the area's only authentic German bakery." Well, that may be true given that I was invited there as a German family's guest. From the moment I entered, I got the impression that this is a classy restaurant, and there was even live music. Overall, the food quality and presentation are befitting of such an elegant and intimate atmosphere. However, my friend's mother and I both ordered beef entrees that were served somewhat cold. My friend's mother complained and asked our waitress to reheat her order, but I did not air any such grievance because my prime rib seemed to be a significantly larger portion than what was described on the menu. I also have to point out that the City Cafe & Bakery's dining hours are limited. To be fair, everyone else in our party enjoyed their food, particularly the appetizers and desserts. Ergo, provided that you don't order a beef dish and can accommodate your schedule, you'll likely enjoy your experience too.

Food is consistently high quality and very good, and the place has great decor - too bad the service lags... For a place like this out of the city, you would expect friendly staff and efficient service, but staff is generally indifferent and not very attentive.

This is my second review for this restaurant because I have to rave about the desserts. We went to the bakery and picked out some desserts to eat after our hike today. I just can't say enough about how delicious everything was! I really don't think there is any reason to go anywhere else in all of Atlanta. I just love this restaurant.

Finally got here for dinner. One word: delish. Started w the mushroom crepes. ... succulent Hubby Hades the Jaeger schnitzel. .dont worry not made w jeagermeister. ... red wine redux w mushrooms. He loved it... meat and potatoes kind of dish. I had the potato crusted trout topped in a lemony something sauce with artichokes. ..I simply loved it. Every bite was like WOW. But hubby thought it was "ok". We finished the night off with picking out many pastries from the counter...cannoli, eclaire, more So there you have it...only nice dining in Fayetteville but worth the drive. Fyi...reservations really dont do any good on weeknights...just sit you anywhere any how. House wine 14 hands is good

Okay, this is a great place for a date or grown-ups (or the really grown, senior citizens). I have not been in a few months but the food is always great. Lunch is way more affordable then dinner but the desserts display will make you drool! I think it is hard to leave without getting a least a cookie but I was good on my last visit and passed on dessert. One point off having small portions but then Southern intend to over eat anyway. Yes, a lot of senior citizen seem to be present when I visit but this should be a good sign. They seem to know good food ! In addition, outdoor dinning is available and this is a wonderful place for a date. Go! I am sure you will find the food and setting lovely!

We went to City Cafe for dinner the day before Valentine's. It was our first visit and lived up to its reputation. For appetizers I ordered teh Lobster Cannoli and Tom ordered the mushroom crepes. The crepes were amazing. The mushrooms were cooked through but still meaty. The sauce and crepes were perfect accents. The Lobster Cannoli were the only disappointment. They were small, cold, and bland. The cooli was okay but didn't add much to the dish. For dinner Tom had Gnocchi Shatte and I ordered Lobster Ravioli. Both were delicious and veyr flavorful. The pasta was all cooked perfectly. The gnocchi were firm yet tender. The ravioli were cut into hearts (ah) and had a nice texture. The sauces were awesome- nicely seasoned. We, unfortunately, didn't have room for dessert although the dessert counter was awful inviting. We've tried the desserts though since that time and they do seem a little hit or miss thus far.

This is a German restaurant that has amazing German entrees. They also have entrees that will appeal to everyone in your group. The German entrees like jäger schnitzel is top notch. We like to go at lunch and have lunch and take a bakery item home. The bakery is hands down the best you will find anywhere. There are cakes, cookies and anything else you can imagine. We visit often and love all the food and the atmosphere is really nice.

This place was good. It was a wait to get in there, but hey, we got seated on a Saturday night we now reservations! The schnitzel was some of the best I've had. The service was excellent and the wine was reasonably priced. I will return.

i really love this place. I enjoy the cakes and pies! They have the best cakes that money can buy. My wife and I go there all the time after we eat out somewhere and get the desert from here. their prices are really reasonable, some places can charge upwards to $6 for a slice of cake and you can get the same size slice for 2 to 3 dollars (at most) from here. Truly this is the place to go for desert.!! And you can order a whole cake too. I have done that several times in the past and all time it was great. the taste and presentation...OUTSTANDING!!

There are so many great things about City Cafe! Let's start with the Wild Mushroom Crepes that are simply rich and decadent! The Fried Green Tomato Stack is also packed with flavor and one of our favorites. The Potato Crusted and Pecan Crusted Grouper should each make every south side chef jealous! So much flavor packed into this dish that it should truly be awarded. The Chicken Schnitzel left the girls longing for more. The less than 5 stars comes from beginning with no Romaine for their scrumptious Caesar when that is our children's and my favorite being very disappointing. They did devour simple greens with Caesar dressing. I opted for Spring Salad with Ranch only to find Sage to be a over powering ingredient. The server graciously returned it and when inquiring found out Blue Cheese dressing also has a strong Sage dressing. If you like Sage then you will love this but unfortunately I can pick Sage out immediately and find it very undesirable. As I only ordered crepes and a salad I finally decided I would follow the kids lead and request a spring salad with Caesar only to be informed there was no lettuce left in the kitchen. Wow! As a scratch kitchen this is due to them being closed the next four days for the 4th of July holiday. Desserts here amazing- hence the bakery! Service is always just okay- do not expect outstanding. Value for the money is great. Alas 4 stars rather than 5 but with limited choices in Fayetteville we will return and everyone enjoyed the meals very much!

Still turning out great German food and various baked goods after a long time in business. On my recent visit, I had the three wursts, sauerkraut and German potato salad followed by a key lime tort. The draft German beer was superb.

Food is pretty good. Only rated a 2 on food because the Service is awful! I ask for hot sauce when we ordered our soup. It was not brought till I was mid meal and soup was already cold. I ended up not eating the soup, server never even asked if i did not like it etc. Had to ask for to-go containers 3 times! Had to ask for napkins, drink refills and straws. We were on lunch break and were celebrating a birthday (only 2 in the party) told server and hostess when we arrived, a hour and 20 minutes later I am asking for a check and our dessert to go! Ruined a birthday lunch! I don't recommend and do not plan on going again!

How do I love this place as much as I do and only give it four stars? Here's how: the food and service are second to none. And the atmosphere are so charming that you feel compelled to just hand around and drink coffee after dinner. Fun, fun place. That gives it five stars. But two experiences have left me with a three-star flavor in my mouth for City Cafe. First, we made reservations for the Friday before Valentines Day and had an extraordinary food and service. Well, the 'Cafe' part was extraordinary...but the 'Bakery' part was nearly sold out. The cupboards were bare. Really? On a weekend so special that reservations were required? So we had to be rather selective on dessert. But always one for second-chances, we headed over last Tuesday evening for dessert and coffee only to find CC&B closed. Dinner only on WTFS. OK, should have looked it up, my fault. Still, weird hours of which only locals would be aware. Anyone passing through who had heard of this place will be surprised. So, three stars and five stars averages out at four. But be clear: I'm still going back.

Sausage Trio is really good. The sauerkraut was ok. They didn't offer regular pork schnitzel or red cabbage :-( However, the food was really great and the pastries are delicious.

Fantastic, unique find in the center of Fayetteville. Technically excellent food from scratch and fresh. Try the crab cakes with the perfectly steamed veggies and seasoned red potatoes to die for. :) A real treat for lunch or dinner.

The last two times I've been here, I've been so disappointed! The food just hasn't been as good. And is it me, or does the menu keep changing? I didn't see my old favorites on it! It'll be a long while before I go back!

Back in the day, we used to drive through Fayetteville to get to my grandmother's house over in Alabama. At that time, it was just a small, nondescript Georgia town, although with a charming town square. These days Fayetteville has been swallowed up into the greater Atlanta megalopolis, and it notably became home to some rappers and wrestlers. I hadn't been to or through Fayetteville in ages. The town square is still intact, though, and City Cafe & Bakery, a very likeable enterprise just a block down the main drag from the square, has become a town asset. The hulking building looks brand spanking new, but the owners, who are apparently native Germans, have done a nice job of creating a charming, airy space inside. The bakery counter seems to be City Cafe's focal point, and it offers a huge variety of terrific choices; this is a dangerous spot indeed for a sweet-tooth. The fruit tart I had was both beautiful-looking and great-tasting and was a high-end item at a reasonable price. Whether for dessert with your meal here or for breakfast the next morning, you gotta to grab something from this counter before leaving. The restaurant menu is pretty wide-ranging, too. At lunch time, there are a lot of salads and sandwiches, some with a German/French orientation. There are also some German entrees like schnitzel and sausages. At this time of year--I'm writing in October--the German selections expand for Octoberfest. I'm no expert on German food, but the schweinebraten I ordered--tender pork loin roasted and served with a thick, rich gravy--was delicious. Sauerkraut and potato salad, the latter not too great, were served on the side. At about nine dollars at lunchtime, this big plate of food was a steal. Wine and beer are available, too. A really likeable and versatile enterprise.

The food here is delicious. I could drink the pumpkin spice soup (when they ever have it) and I love the fruit tarts. 2 stars because the service here is terrible! You have to wait forever to even get silverware and you have to wait twice as long if you want it to be CLEAN silverware. Only go if you have a ton of time to kill or you will be late.

The service was awesome and I had a chicken Caesar said which was good. The atmosphere is cozy but this place is a little hard to find. I drove passed it 3 times. The parking is fine. I would like to see a more viewable sign!

awesome unique place! definitely would recommend to anyone trying to enjoy an appetizing meal. Bakery is insanely good. Key Lime Pie is phenomenal. turkey melt is a good choice. outdoor seating is perfect for any date. Has wacky hours so make sure you go during lunch or supper. stinks that they are closed Sunday.

This is a wonderful restaurant The food is great and the deserts and bakery are amazing. They have good wine and german beers on draft! The only negative is that it is small and you may have a wait for seating. No bar to hang out in. Also, they had a very elegant duo playing dinner music. The mushrooms crepes were an incredible appetizer. I had the Wiener schnitzel and It was the best I have ever had.

While visiting Fayetteville, my wife and I were looking for something good to tickle our fancies, after restaurant search on yelp. It brought us here. Who would have ever thought there was an authentic German restaurant way out here? I certainly did not. We decided to stop here for lunch yesterday, but due to our time constraint as City Café was extremely busy, we ordered lunch Togo. The whole place was packed, there was about a 20 minute wait on a Thursday at around 30 minutes past noon. After placing our order, I decided to checkout their bakery full of all kinds of beautiful goodies. They had European Christmas cookies, just like we used to make them as kids (sure wish we kept those antique cookie cutters). The lady at the bakery, who seemed fairly new to the bakery section was very helpful and knowledgeable about the restaurant. She definitely made me want the comeback, excellent service by her. I purchased one of each of the Christmas cookies in both small and large versions. I'll admit it, I ate one in the car before getting home and one for breakfast today (with healthier foods), awful I know... As the Cookie Monster would say... Gimme da cookies!!! Gimme da cookies!!! My wife had the Classic New York Reuben with corned beef, swiss cheese and homemade sauerkraut on marble rye bread with 1000 Island dressing. I took a bite, just to ensure it was Yankee enough, it was. For myself, I had the Bratwurst that comes with one Patak bratwurst served with roasted potatoes and it came with homemade sauerkraut, grain mustard and a small pretzel roll. The pretzel roll was very good, nice crust, moist center and I really enjoyed the mustard as well; perfecto flavour. The roasted potatoes were excellent, just wish there were more than just five. I believe the patak is made by Boar's head, which are well known for their quality meats. It was good as well. As one might imagine, as a child, most kids hate sauerkraut, but after finally growing up, I now love sauerkraut. Their home sauerkraut is very unique. I'd highly recommend it. I'll definitely be back. [Review #228]

Very disappointing restaurant. (Especially for people under the age of 50.) Probably a perfect place for people above the age of 55+. First of all, the temperature was way too hot even for the employees. It's still summer and the inside temperature should not match the outside temperature unless it's all outdoor seating, which it isn't. They have ceiling fans but with the tall ceilings the air doesn't go down enough. I would say a very, very slight breeze, if that. I spoke with several of the employees and they said the owner doesn't want to keep the air at a low temperature because they don't want the customers to get cold. I could tell they were hot because their faces were glistening with sweat and that tired look from the heat. The tables were too close together. Glad I'm not in a wheelchair, had a stroller, used a walker, etc. or I would have knocked some tables over. I felt like knocking the out of place light/lamp post over because it was entirely misplaced. You don't put one of these decorative pieces in the middle of a restaurant. It obstructs the flow of traffic and I could barely fit by with a car seat in hand. They definitely tried to make the restaurant "feel" upscale, but don't be fooled. White tablecloths, pastry case, wine bottles on the tables, white napkins.... Looks here are definitely deceiving. The food is well below disappointing. Breaded chicken covered with a brown mushroom gravy that seems to be from a can with mushy vegetables swimming in oil/butter is not worth the $17. Try the pasta? No thanks! It looks like a giant bowl of spaghetti-O's with giant Pieces of pasta that they call, gnocchi but don't look anything like it. The sausage was hacked and thrown in with red tomato sauce. The salmon dish had seasoned rice with vegetables, but what made this dish funny was the cream they plopped on top of the fish as if a bird pooped on it. If you want dessert, you walk over to the oversized pastry display/glass-inclosed case, pick out your dessert and then your waiter/waitress will bring it to you. I'm not sure about the taste of the desserts, but the restaurant is quite confusing. When you walk in there are a few cake displays that appear to be for special occasions. The cakes looked like the baker tried to be professional but you could definitely, quite clearly see the flaws. I wouldn't order my wedding cake from here. Did I mention the insanely large chocolate cake that is sitting on the corner of the pastry display? From my angle it looked like the cake was melting. That wouldn't be surprising. As far as the taste of the pastries, I cannot comment. I do know that there are NO VEGAN options. I'm not sure if this place is French, German, Italian or what. The light post in the middle of the restaurant suggests a French appeal, but the menu screams all sorts of other things. I really dislike this restaurant and the menu. The staff appeared unhappy and hot and not to mention, SWEATY. I hope their sweat didn't make it into the food. Extremely disappointing experience. Wish I had just gone to a fast food restaurant because the food would have been equally as oily and greasy.

I took my Grandmother for lunch here a couple of times and we love everything about this place. We enjoyed our lunch in the Patio seating area on a beautiful day. My grandmother had the Pineapple Chicken Salad on a bed of mixed greens, and I had the Café Avocado B.L.T. Yum! The coffee was served fresh and the Gluten-Free Dessert options are really good. I've tried all them! Our favorite with the coffee are the cookies dipped half way in chocolate and sliced almonds. Yum!
