This is a friend's favorite restaurant. I just thought the food was OK. I ordered the chicken burrito. The place is really small and it was hard to find an open spot to sit. I would gladly go to Chipotle any day of week over Willy's.

Ordered two tacos (Sinaloa chicken, sinaloa tofu), and the Willy nachos with steak but none of the cheesy sauce; which came out to a total of about 15 bucks. Both tacos came with free tortilla chips, and there is a self-serve salsa bar so you can take your pick of tomatillo, chipotle, or habanero. Great set up! Except for the actual quality of the food. Something was seriously wrong with the taste and texture of the pico de gallo that ended up on our tacos and nachos... The tomatoes were flavorless and really mushy, almost as if they had been frozen and then thawed or otherwise reconstituted. I didnt get the sense that it was very fresh, at any rate. The tofu flavor really put me off, too--I have never really eaten a tofu dish that I didn't like, until now. The marinade worked much better with the chicken than the tofu. We are not coming back. Chipotle is right around the corner.

Taken very good care of/great service by "Crisly" who made me an excellent large burrito with a terrific attitude.Fresh,delicious,filling.I'm a big eater and it happily satisfied me!

I've had Willy's cravings for the past 10+ years, so it must be consistently good or I've been pregnant for a really long time. Whether I'm craving a burrito or not, I'm always glad I stopped by. I think all their meats and tofu are delicious, and I especially love all the salsa bar options. My favorite burritos consists of a meat or tofu with pinto beans, cheese, cucumbers, olives, cilantro, jalapeños (fresh and pickled), 1/2 corn and 1/2 tomato salsa, and a squeeze of lime. You can imagine this burrito gets fat, but nothing the burr-istas can't handle. I love scooping out the insides with their complimentary nacho chips and topping them with tomatillo sauce and spicy salsa. Yumm. Cheese dip and guacamole are decent, but I don't get them usually because the burrito is enough good. Hope they continue to satisfy my cravings for another 10+ years.

I had to come check this place out because my daughter said it was better then Chipotle. I can't agree with here there, but my meal was enjoyable. It was a tasty stray for my normal meals. Like Arnold said, "I'll be back.'

In my opinion, Willy's is better than Moe's or Chipotle. All of their food is delicious. Willy's is amazing!

I've never really understood the appeal of Willy's. Some of my friends swear by it, boasting about the great flavor, fresh veggies, etc, but, I dunno, maybe my taste buds are shot because the flavor just doesn't burst out at me, or maybe they're going for the subtle flavor? With that mindset going in, I decided to try the Sinaloa tofu burrito bowl. I don't eat tofu often, but they didn't do a bad job with it, and, would you look at that, there was a little flavor in there! The bowl could be had for right at 6 bucks or so but their grilled peppers and onions blend is an extra dollar, although chips are free, although the dipping sauces are fairly tame. I do like the vibe of this location, especially in the evening, in the quasi-outdoor eating area, but during lunch, this whol shared lot, which is packed with multiple stores, can run out of parking spaces.

You know, I can't really distinguish this place from Chipotle, Moe's or even Q'doba. They all taste the same to me. But, what this place has going for it is the screened in patio and great service. The food, though, tastes like it's really americanized. I tried the adobe chicken burrito which was good but filled with less meat and more beans and rice. I want each bite to at least have one piece of meat in it. Ah, well. It was ok. A descent experience. They lose one star for the lack of parking spaces and one star for so little meat in the burrito.

I'll take Willy's over Moe's or Chipotle any day of the week. First off, they don't shout at you when you come in here. That is probably my #1 peeve about Moe's. There's nothing welcoming about an obligatory scream in the face. The ingredients they use here just seem all around cleaner and more tasty than their competitors. There are so many different choices, all of which can be customized by your personal preference or mood, which I like a lot. The decor of this place also seems more open and hospitable than the total fast-food feel of the other two. It's Willy's by a landslide.

Out of all of the burrito chains in town, Willy's is my second favorite, second to Chipotle. The menu is about what you'd expect: burritos, tacos, salads, nachos, and quesadillas. I tend to go for the salad, except on the first Tuesday of each month, when Emory students with ID can get a burrito for only five bucks. I also tend to go for the tofu, which is pretty damn good here, with great texture and great flavor. The spicy chicken and the steak are good, too, but I'm generally a bigger fan of the meats at Chipotle. Tortilla chips are free, and there's a salsa bar to round out your meal. (Out of the three salsas available, I prefer the habanero hot salsa. Its somewhat smoky flavor is decent, though it's not exactly spicy.) One thing I've found odd about this place is the haphazard way they do upcharges for certain ingredients. I always get the grilled peppers and onions, which (apparently) cost a extra dollar, but I've never been charged extra. On the other hand, last week, I was unexpectedly hit with a fifty-cent charge for corn salsa, which I always get and for which I've never been charged. Parking can be a bit of a pain during the lunch hour, though I've never not been able to find a spot. Just realize that it's a small parking lot in which people double park (sort of; you'll see what I'm talking about if you go) when the spots start to fill up. This Willy's location is pretty cozy, with a screened-in patio area (unfortunately, the North Decatur and Clairmont intersection is pretty noisy) and a long row of booths following the narrow interior all the way toward the back. But it's also cramped; sometimes, it's a little annoying when people are reaching around each other to get to the silverware, the salsa bar, and the drink fountain.

Good and quick service Mexican restaurant. Recently went here and had a delicious spicy chicken taco while friends ordered burritos and thorougly enjoyed it. The best part about Willy's is the cheese dip. A trip to Willy's is not complete without the cheese dip. It tastes good on the taco and on the free chips that come with your meal. Love to get a quick Mexican fix from this spot and will likely return soon.

After trying so many different Mexican restaurants in the area and being disappointed, Willy's was a relief. It was not AWESOME, but I really like the ability to customize my burrito with many different additions at no additional charge. We got the Adobe Chicken Burrito. I added jalapeno, cheese, cilantro, and also took a trip to their salsa bar to take home some extra salsa. The quality of the meat and ingredients was good. What we did not like was how they folded the burrito. All of the rice was on one side, the beans were in the middle, and the meat was on the end...instead of a little of each in every bite. If they could fold it the other way, it would taste much better and yield more satisfaction from customers, I'm sure.

I have been to most of the Willy's locations in and around Atlanta over the past several years and this one is one of my favorites. Whenever my kids come to visit they always ask to go to Willy's for two reasons: 1) East Hampton, New York does not have any San Francisco style burrito chains (that I or they know of) and 2) Willy's was their favorite place to eat in Atlanta before they moved to New York. My daughter loves the kids burrito with chicken (non-spicy), black beans, rice, cheese, and sour cream (costs extra). My son loves the kids burrito with pinto beans, chicken (non-spicy) and cheese. My son also loves the green sauce as an accompaniment to his burrito and chips; whereas my daughter prefers a side of sour cream (cost extra) to dip her chips. Willy's is perhaps one of a handful (if not the only one) of restaurants I can take my kids and be sure that they will eat their food. They are picky / finicky eaters. I like the burritos, quesadillas, and salads. I think their salsa bar is ten times better than Moe's and most chain burrito places do not even have a salsa bar at all. I will state for the record that my kids absolute favorite Wily's location, is the one on Howell Mill Rd. The reason for this is because lots of families bring their kids there on Friday evenings and on Saturday afternoons, so it has a very kid friendly / kid-centric vibe - especially on the patio deck area of the restaurant. On Friday nights a guitarist plays songs for tips on the aformentmentioned patio / deck. But lately I usally stick with the N. Decatur location (near Emory) or the Moreland Ave location (past L5P in the Sembler complex). Parking at both of the aforementioned locations can be somewhat dicey.

It is hard to give Willy's, Moe's or Chipotle anything more than three stars because, well, it is what it is - solid, DIY, southwest/mexican food. I have started to give Willy's a chance after eating at Moe's for so long and there is no question the meats are better. I like this particular location because I can grab something to read at the bookshop next door or a copy of the Loaf and just sit down and eat. I also love the salsas at Willy's.

    (3)
  • Daniel S.

This places is consistently good. I like to get a bowl and cover it with the habenero sauce. Not a big fan, though, of having to pay extra for the corn salsa and guacamole. I do wish that it was included in the price of a bowl.

A solid entry in the taco parade. What really works at Willy's is the ability to control every ingredient that gets on the tacos by guiding the tacoristas through the build. I love that. I really like that I can build a burrito in a bowl like it is one of those "salads" from the salad bar at Ryan's. It just becomes a big meal of flavor clumps. Big meal, six bucks, yay. Somehow, the place seems to be better quality than Moe's and way better than the Mexi-chain restaurants. The tacos aren't as good as Taqueria del Sol but, well, I'm building them instead of the Eddie. I like/hate that they give me free chips. I can't help but mow them down when they are SO not worth the calories. They're not bad chips but I don't really need any more corn chips, well, for the rest of my life. This location feels friendly and the screened in patio is a nice touch. I don't find the staff particularly interesting or offensive. The parking can be a problem in this small lot. I wanna really like it more than I do but it just doesn't grab me. On the other hand, it is right in my path so it is a solid inexpensive meal on the way home.

Willy's is my favorite place for burritos - much better than Moe's. The ingredients are fresh and tasty, and I love the salsa. Having your food being made fresh to order is great. The people are nice and the atmosphere is good. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes if the line is long. This location has a covered outside area. I also have used them for catering and highly recommend that as well. Good place for kids.

  • Winston G.

The steak here is really good, and so is the garlic chicken (forgot what the flavor was called.) Out of all the chains in this area for mexican, Willy's definitely has the best steak. It's flavored with a bit of garlic, and very juicy. A burrito will fill you up for sure, and usually two tacos is also sufficient to satisfy your appetite. The quesidillas are also pretty good, and a grande one should be more than enough for one person. It's not the best burrito ever, but for the price and if you are tight on time, it's a solid play.

The Background: A local chain restaurant that has good sized portions at cheap prices. This location is nicer than others given its proximity to Emory. This is a perfect restaurant for the college student in a rush. The Positives: The food is pretty tasty and you get a lot of it for the amount you pay. I am also a fan of their salsa bar which is a nice addition. The chips are also pretty nice, they're thinner so they don't taste as greasy as other restaurants. The Negatives: It's not the highest quality food, but for the price and quantity, its definitely a good deal.

  • Roy K.

It meets your expectations - that's why it's good. Always good always cheap. 4 stars, they get the 5th when hang pinatas from the ceiling.

I'm not one for the burrito chains, but out of all of them, I find Willy's to be the most tolerable. I love their pulled pork soft tacos and the fact that you can get chipotle ranch sauce to dip them in. I like that you can order small sizes of guac and/or cheese to go with the free chips they give you with each order. I like that they have tofu available when I start to regress back to my Vegetarian days. I like that they are close to my apartment and I can walk if I'm feeling extra lazy. I don't like that recently, it seems, that a few of the workers are serving up burritos with a side of attitude. My sister ordered three tacos and it was obvious that they guy taking her order wasn't really paying attention and was just making two. When she tried to politely clarify that there was a third, he snapped back, "I know." The cashier, the nicest of the bunch by far, asked him for the order to ring it up and the guy still got it wrong. The cashier taking pity on our plight clarified with us and gave us a "knowing" glance of commiseration. Previously I had always touted the superiority of Willy's over Moe's, but these days I've started to reconsider.

Willy's is one of my regular places for take-out. I really like their burritos, and my wife is quite partial to their queso. This location serves a lot of Emory kids, so it can get busy.

    (4)
  • Gloria W.

I am not a fan. Super bland and that was even with spicy chicken and their house salsas. I will say that the guys building the burritos are super friendly and gave suggestions to help me through my first time. Even with their helpfulness it could not help the food and I will just have to keep praying that Q'doba moves closer than John's Creek! Until then Chipotle or Moe's will have to do.

I had my iphone stolen here. It was between lunch and dinner. I left my phone in a booth, then returned within a half hour. No one on staff could remember anything about who came in even though the restaurant was empty. They basically shrugged at me. They didn't even try to help. I used to love this place. What is wrong with people?

Simply the best burrito chain in Atlanta. Amazing locations: Emory, Piedmont Park, Buckhead, East Atlanta. Yes, Willy's. Yes. Moe's, Chipotle, Qdoba -- none tops Willy's. Willy's is the true ATL burrito joint.

  • Nicholas H.

I have to say, Willy's definitely edges out Chipoltle and Moes in the burrito making business in Atlanta. I am a big guac fan and Willy's guacamole is always fresh and their recipe is killer. They have delicious steak however their spicy chicken could use a bit more kick; it is very mild for a supposed spicy dish. Willy's has great salsa and the staff are always happy to give me an extra scoop or two of chips. Perfect place to go if you're in a rush or looking for an inexpensive, yet delicious meal.

Can't beat the handmade salsa...The staff is great! We eat here at least twice a month and I keep coming back....Burritos are big and a Taco is filling if you want something light. And the cookies are usually fresh baked.

  • Todd S.

I live in Florida now and just came to the Atlanta for the holidays. I've been twice already and may go again. Great value. The burritos are great quality for the $. My real fix are the salsas they are the best. Wish I had one of these in Florida. I've seen some that compare this to Moe's, seriously! not even in the same ballpark. Unless your fond of jarred bland salsa.

  • Jen K.

Willy's is my favorite of the big chain quasi-Mexican restaurants around town, easily edging out Chipotle and Moe's. I am not going to argue the authenticity of it - it is a tostitos and cheese dip kind of place. Love the quesadillas and nachos, and my friends that are burrito people rave about them here. I am all about the free salsa bar, This location is one of my favorites, a close call between this one and the one on Piedmont Park. This one also has a less-than-ideal parking situation, as anyone who has had to double park behind the middle row of cars knows. But it is cheap, has a great little screened in patio, and has some of the friendliest staffers around, most having been there forever. Lots of college kids here, always busy and has a noise level going that makes it easy to bring our toddler here.

  • Annie R.

Willys is by far and away the best burrito in atlanta. My burrito ranking... Willys, then Chipotle, then Moes, and qdoba is terrible. Willys has the best guac and pico which make it for me. The tofu is great here as well. This location in particularly is great, the staff is super friendly and helpful. It is also very fresh and its cheap, a good deal all around.

    (4)
  • Eric H.

A solid steak burrito for lunch and the ability to sit "outside" on the patio = quality. The tortilla was thicker and "meatier" than it's counterpart at Chipotle, but was tender and held everything together - what else could you ask for? Steak was juicy, cheese was fresh, and rice was not dry. Willy's chipotle salsa is very, very good - love the smoke! Not a huge fan of their hot sauce they had available and wished the steak itself was spicier, but not enough to complain about. Free chips and salsa are always appreciated. Now, back to work... blech.

I have probably eaten at Willy's hundreds of times with never a bad meal. This is the best Mexican-influenced food of its type. My favorites: chicken burritos with pinto beans, quesadillas, nachos with meat (super or regular) and, when I want to eat healthy, chicken salad (good all year). The line moves fast once the people in front of you in line make up their minds about what they're ordering. Staff is helpful; new staffers predictably have only basic English skills. The same man has been taking my lunch order at the N. Decatur/Clairmont location for years. Good for lunch or dinner. No table service, therefore no "date" ambience. Bottled beverages are available, including Mexican import beer, and fountain drinks. Occasionally you get yesterday's nacho chips. Get there right after the lunch rush, and they may not have had a chance to clean up yet. Fresher tasting than Moe's Southwest Grill and more flavorful than Chipotle.

At first blush, maybe this giant burrito place seems just like other places that serve giant burritos. However, I find that Willy's is an order of magnitude better in terms of ingredient quality and freshness. In particular, the chipotle salsa hits just the right spicy, sweet and smoky notes. I wish they were as omnipresent as your Chipotles and Qdobas; I think I would eat giant burritos more often.

  • Lisa c.

One of my favorite places to grab a bite..terrific and fresh food, very nice selection, friendly and accommodating staff, great service, very reasonable prices, something for everyone. Their guacamole is some of the best around, the chicken is perfectly spiced, and the portions are ample. My entire family loves it..age 17-83...not many places that will appeal to such a wide range of ages and tastes, but Willy's fills the bill! The only really negative is the parking as the lot has got to be one of the most ill-designed parking lots around. Otherwise, no complaints...try it and you'll see.

    (5)
  • David B.

The burritos are made to order while you watch, so that's good. The salsas at the salsa bar are just bad, bad, bad though. And the chips are always stale. How can you foul up tortilla chips? And the wait and the parking situation while all the Emoroids get their grub on are enough for a full star demotion. It makes you miss Tortillas. A lot. I always swear I'm not going to get talked into this place again. This time I mean it.

Good meats, spices. Decent prices. Only recall good experiences here and I've been for about 15 years.

For a delicious soft taco on a budget, I always go here. The soft taco's seem larger to me than the hard tacos. Willy's will always be my favorite. Moe's only exists because the founder of Moe's, a wealthy and successful restaurant franchiser named Martin Sprock, saw a good thing (Willy's on Roswell Rd.), copied it as a franchise concept, then sold it. Martin Sprock is founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Atlanta-based Raving Brands. Sprock launched the portfolio in 1997 with the introduction of Planet Smoothie, followed by Moe's Southwest Grill in 2000. ** Willy's is an original**, not Moe's.

Of the burrito chains I like Willy's the best. Good salsa bar, nice burritos and toppings. This location can get really packed. But they move you through the lie quickly.

  • Catherine P.

I have chowed down at various Willy's around A-town...what is cool about this one is that it has a screen porch at the front. Y'know, just in case you were insane enough to want to eat your hot burrito in 100 degree heat. But seriously, I could see myself using it in the spring or fall...there is a nice sun painted on the wall. OK good rhyme.

  • Kavita D.

Sigh...I miss this place so much. So much better than Chipotle, and I only slightly prefer it over Moe's. I looove the tofu burrito. Never tried the ones with meat, but I'm sure they're good. True, there would always be a long line of Emory students, but trust me, it's worth the wait! One thing I don't like are the chips and salsa, though.

  • Stephanie N.

Located near Emory and Clairmont campus, this place is an institution for college kids. I am not generally a fan of tex-mex places - aside from the select few. If you like burritos, people love 'em. Personally, I am a hardshell taco / quesadilla / nacho fan. ( I like the extra-badness that comes along with the fried goodness). The meat options here taste really good to me and they're pretty fair sized. Prices are MUCH more reasonable than at Moe's and it tastes better too. GO!

    (4)
  • Laura W.

If you're coming around dinner time when college is in session, be prepared for a long line of Emory students. Luckily, the line is here for a reason - Willy's burritos are the tastiest and freshest around. (Also, huge and inexpensive.) There are only about 15 tables inside, plus a few more on the patio. Also, even though I'm a carnivore, I've found it useful from time to time to know that this is one of the few real vegan options near the Emory campus. Get the tofu burrito without cheese, and you're good to go. The tofu's pretty tasty, actually, although I usually prefer to go for black beans with beef, pork and pinto beans, or chicken with green mole.

  • Dan N.

How can you not tell the difference between this place and Moes/Qdoba/Chipotle? Willy's is 10x the place that the others wish they could ever be. It's by no means the best place to get mexican food, as its definitely Americanized, but to fullfill that fast food criteria, this is it. The ingredients, chips and the salsa is much better than the other places in my opinion. Qdoba and Chipotle's chips taste way too salty. Moes is lacking in flavor in their salsas and everything else. To each his/her own

    (4)
  • amy g.

Willy's is fine for an inexpensive burrito, but I honestly don't taste a difference between Willy's and Chipotle (both are better than Moe's). In fact, I prefer Chipotle's burritos, though I like the service and screened in patio here better.

    (3)
  • J H.

This is the place where Emory students get their burrito. The tortilla is warm and moist as it is steamed more than Chipotle's. The portions are huge and chips are included in the price. This place feels more authentic than Chipotle's and brings a better atmosphere than the corporate Chipotle's.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
