There's not really much I hate more than driving a long way for bad food. We saw Norman's Landing on Atlanta Eats and were excited to try the lobster roll, which looked totally different on TV than live in person. I am a huge fan of simplicity when it comes to lobster rolls, just a little butter, salt and pepper are perfect when tossed with fresh lobster meat. When they say "a 1/4 pound of claw meat" they aren't talking about the luscious big part of the claw or even the knuckle meat. This sandwich was filled with what I'm guessing is machine extracted meat from the skinny legs of the lobster. The roll looked so stupid I couldn't even take a picture of it. It looked more like a crawfish roll than anything else. Both my husband and I bit into pretty big hunks of shell, which is why I made the machine separated comment. I've never had fresh picked lobster contain shells, because people who know how to shuck lobster would feel it and remove it. I also would question the freshness of the lobster. It tasted like it had been sitting around, and that plus butter was the only discernible flavor. Coupled with frozen fries and wet cole slaw... What a joke. I love to support small business and I never eat at chains, but I dare say if given the choice between this place and Red Lobster - I'd probably take the Red Lobster.

Amayyyyyyyzing!!!!!! Everything was EXCELLENT!! We all tasted each other's dish and some of what we got was the Seafood Kebab, fried catfish, lobster roll (ask for it w/ tartar sauce--it makes the sandwich), crab/lobster bisque, Caesar salad, rolls, cornbread and Key Lime Pie---all of it was FABULOUS. The owner, Bill Norman was really nice and treated us like family. I would definitely dine here again.

Quick review. Food decent. Service horrible. Waitress didn't even know what half the specials were called. Let alone what was in them. Also she was entirely too friendly. Stopped in the middle if taking our orders to chat with my wife about tattoos and artists. And I haven't had that much physical contact with a waitress since I was at a gentlemen's club. Would have been different if that is what I was paying for. Probably won't be going there next Father's Day. Or ever again.

Not impressed; food mediocre, presentation lacking and overpriced. Obviously, was not in my right mind to pay $22.95 for a Grouper lunch sandwich, the filet no bigger than a child's hand. This area doesn't have a problem purchasing fresh fish, which is prevalent by an array of fish restaurants and fishmongers. Definitely not up to par, saltwater or freshwater.

After a few times here with them, I have to think that the reason why my in-laws like this place so much is perhaps more a function of their age rather than their palate. I mean, seriously, were there any people in here under 50? The food is VERY average. I've had seafood as good (or bad) at Red Lobster and other chains. Their raw oysters were good, even if a little on the small side. I would stay away from their crab cakes - the ones in the freezer case at the grocery store are better. The seafood on their platter items are a little greasy, but tasty. I do appreciate their extremely cold beers and their frosty glasses. Better than most bars in the area!

A friend of mine recommended we go to this place for lunch. I travel all over the country, so I've been to some pretty amazing places, but this one blew me away! You don't expect to get a lobster roll or a Po'boy that will top Maine or New Orleans in Atlanta, but I did! I also had the first fried pickle of my lifetime! The waitress (Janet) added to the experience with great service and even greater opinions about what we should order. When I ask for it, I really want to know, and she was able to guide us through the ordering process. Thanks for that!

You can find Norman's Landing near Brannon Rd right off of Exit 13 from 400. This is the last bastion of decent eating in this rather restaurant desolate area (and yes, I know that there's tons of building going on so that description won't last for long). The restaurant is on the left as you head East from 400. I've eaten at Norman's Landing several times and have always had good food and service. This is an interesting restaurant with all the feel of a restaurant you would typically see along a lake or seaside bay, only without the expansive patio view or smell of briny water. The interior is all exposed wood and rafters with water-sport artifacts on the walls or hanging from the ceiling. While it's a bit kitchy, that's quite OK as the food more than makes up for it. I can see that this is a popular spot for locals - plenty of people at the bar enjoy libations even if this last time I visited (a sleepy, Sunday night) there were few at the dining room tables. I can imagine myself enjoying a beer or specialty cocktail here before dining, or even just hanging out and talking about fishing. I do miss the coastal bars I frequented while living closer to coastlines - this is about as good as it gets without actually being on water. The previous times that I've dined here I had salads or something with few or no carbs, as I was doing more of an Adkins thing. This time I went for a seafood combination with scallops, shrimp and fish, all fried, with collard greens and sweet potato fries on the side. Also at our table, was a crab-stuffed flounder accompanied by beets. I'm not a huge fan of beets, but the entree was quite good - the lemony piccata-like sauce included capers and was just dandy to enhance the flavors inside. In all, the combination of ambiance, the great service and the good food put me in a reminiscent mood for the sea. Funny how that works - maybe it'll do the same for you? (longer review on my food blog)

I've been coming here on and off for years and found a great place to get away a couple of times a year too. Usually pretty quiet and dark but good service and a good bar. Brought my mom this time she was craving a lobster roll and I got the grouper sandwich. The grouper sandwich was absolutely perfect but the lobster roll all those filled completely with claw meat was a bit dry and overcooked but still tasty. Great lunch with mom will always come back.

Husband and I had dinner here on a Friday evening for the first time since moving to this area. We ordered one calamari appetizer and one clam chowder to start. Waiter recommended the grouper and crab stuffed flounder which we also ordered. The flounder dish was too salty for my taste, grouper and sides were good. I would skip the collards. I don't know if it was the way they were prepared, but this is the worst vegetable I've ever tasted. We ordered no drinks. Had no dessert. We found the tab was much too high for what we got. It came to $78 and we were floored. Ate at Brookwood Grill in Roswell on Sunday. Both of us had soup, grouper, iced tea, no dessert and spent under $50. It was a much better prepard meal and value for our money.

We pulled in to the parking lot of Norman's Landing on a whim. We had been there before, but it had been awhile, and we we all in the mood for a good seafood meal. It wasn't too crowded. The hostess greeted us warmly and efficiently. We were seated quickly and with a smile. Unfortunately things went downhill from there. Our server took her sweet time in getting to us. It took probably 10 minutes for her to take our drink orders. Now, had this been a busy night, I would have been more understanding, but there were several empty tables and we had been seated immediately, so they weren't exactly covered up. She took time to laugh at another server who had dropped a tray before she came over to us. She brought the bread basket and two plates even though there was three of us. She said she would bring another plate, but she didn't--not even when she brought out our calamari appetizer. We got the idea that we were not her favorite table. The entrees were just ok. The crab cakes were much too salty and the collard greens were really tough. The mac and cheese was nothing more than noodles with a cheese crust. The squash casserole was the best taste of the meal. It was really good. It took a long time to get the check, and when it finally came, our server just plopped it down and walked off in mid sentence. It was a strange experience and much different from our usual NL experience. I remember the food being much better on our previous visits. I hope it was just an off night and we can have a good dinner there again some time in the future. However, when I spend $100 on a meal, I expect a higher level of service.

This was our first visit to Norman's Landing. We will probably give it one more try before totally abandoning this option. The service was very good. Our waitress was friendly, accurate and had a great sense of humor. The owner was visiting every table asking how everything was. However, the food was a slight disappointed. We had some positives and negatives. Negatives: I ordered the Lobster Roll and it was basically lobster meat on a bun with a side of butter and slaw to put on top. The lobster was very bland and had zero seasoning. The onions rings were not fresh made and probably were frozen. Positives: My partner ordered the Reuben and it was delicious!!! The waitress recommended the BBQ shrimp appetizer and it was above average as well. The beers were ice cold and were served with a frosty mug.

Norman's Landing was awesome! We got oysters, calamari, fried seafood platter, fried shrimp po' boy, naked scallops, and bread. It was an amazing experience and great service from our server to the manager! The drinks were the only negative, should of just went with beer! Can't wait to splurge again!

Giving 4 stars was difficult here. I LOVE crab cakes. I have now had their crab cakes 3 times hoping for something better, figuring something went wrong last time (s). I seriously thought their could not be a crab cake that you could barely taste the crab in except at McDonald's when the day comes that they try a CrabBurger. So I FINALLY learned my lesson that crab is not the ONLY seafood on this planet. Their New England Clam Chowder is 3 stars. Today I had the Cajun Shrimp appetizer and they were quite good. 4 stars. I then had the ribs and I will give them 5 stars. Last time I was there, I had their Cheese soup that many people have bragged about to start off with. And then I had another cup of Cheese soup for dessert as that is how good it was! I am not in the area often, but look forward to trying other things here, after finally learning to simply stay away from the crab cakes (JUST MY opinions of course as others certainly have bragged about them here!).

This was my second visit to this restaurant. The first visit was good but nothing special and it has been quite a while since then. Today for lunch was a completely different story. I ordered the Fried Oyster Ceasar Salad special and my husband ordered the mixed seafood grilled kabobs. The Oysters on the salad were fried perfectly (8 total on dish). They were crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside and not oily at all. So many times fried oysters are served very oily due to over cooking them or not frying them at a hot enough temp. The salad was so large I was not even able to finish it. My husband was raving about all the seafood on the kabobs: scallops, mahi or grouper, catfish, and shrimp. We were even impressed with the cornbread they served to the table. So many times cornbread at restaurants has lots of sugar in it. Norman's did not have any much/any sugar in it and was more savory. I prefer my cornbread to be a bit grittier and less cake consistency but it was still delicious and a pleasant surprise.

After driving by this place for years, we finally stopped in to have lunch and was so glad we did. The atmosphere is casual and the staff very friendly and attentive. The cornbread and rolls were delicious. The fried catfish I ordered was hot and crisp and came with a perfectly done baked potato. My son had a mushroom swiss burger, which was also tasty and cooked the way he likes. We will definitely come back to try some of their other offerings. Their specials looked good, as well as the desserts.

I went here last night...We started off with some spring rolls and then had the blackened salmon salad....wow. Very good. We just drank water and talked, the place was pretty empty, warm and very inviting. I'll be back.

Yes, the Avenue has nice new trendy restaurants, but nothing beats a family owned, community based restaurant that has been in business for the last 14 years. The food was great and our waitress was not a part time kid on spring break. My son had the ribs, I had catfish and my wife had grouper. Great tasting, hot and filling. Blueberry cobler was very good.

  • Evan W.

Meh. The service was pleasant and timely. That's the source of the one star above "abysmal." The food was bland and uninspired when it was executed with any skill whatsoever. The fried catfish seemed to be eggwashed and then breaded in pure flour. There was no seasoning whatsoever anywhere on the fish. It took a copious application of salt tableside to make palatable. The tartar sauce was watery and unappetizing. The "steak fries" were quartered potatoes that were murdered (read: vastly overcooked) by a fryolator sans any seasoning or coating of any kind. The skins had been left on, turning the whole affair into something I might use to hammer a nail. The cornbread was soggy on one side and dry and hardened on the other, rendering it all but inedible. My lunch partner's broccoli was the only thing we received that looked as though it had been treated with any respect whatsoever, coming out a nice crisp al dente though once again lacking any seasoning whatsoever. In summary: nice people, but when I can find better food at McDonalds, it's perhaps time to reexamine the kitchen staff.

Had lunch there new year's eve day..All of the food was good but not cheap for lunch..we had scallops with mashed potatoes, hamburger steak all the way with fried okra, and french dip with potato salad. I would recommend all of the above even though I did not taste the mashed..Cornbread and butter was also good. Lunch was about 35 dollars before the tip. Very excellent service. Nice destination lunch spot if you are out that way. When it first opened it must have been the only decent restaurant in the whole county!

It's been over 10 years since we ate here. Back when, this was one of the few restaurants within reasonable driving distance from South Forsyth county. Since then we have lots of other choices that are closer. This time we had a $20 gift card donated as part of a HS band fundraiser, and with the kids away for the weekend the wife and I paid a visit. Service was great; fast and friendly. The food was variable, although on the whole acceptable. Wife had lemon scallops and squash casserole, both of which were excellent. I ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo and a dozen raw oysters. The gumbo was pretty good, although I hate the shallow flat rim bowls they use. The oysters were less good, as the juice had been drained from them and they were fairly small. For dessert wife had peach cobbler, which was a failure. Again the flat rim bowl that makes eating without spilling a chore, and since there was almost no crust she got a peach soup with a ball of vanilla ice cream in the center. Cornbread and rolls were good as was the iced tea. Veterans get a 20% discount on Mondays, so that could be a reason to come back.

It's fine. It opened in 1995 and they have a solid following; if you're a local, this must be one of THE places to hang out. I got he fish and chips which was kind of a misnomer. Chunks of tilapia with thin french fries. Meh, I've had better. Why 3 stars and not 2? The people were really nice and the atmosphere great.

  • Jenni H.

The tasty food, top notch service and lake house atmosphere keep us coming back for more. The ping pong room offers fun for the whole family. My husband brings European visitors from work to Norman's regularly and they look forward to going back when they return for excellent seafood, steaks and chicken entrees.

Stacy G would like to reiterate his five star review of Norman's Landing. This place continues to be delicious. Here is an overview of all the menu items I've tried: Seafood - Always pay attention to the fresh catch items. All very good. Especially like anything blackened. Lunch Menu - The tilapia sandwich continues to be my favorite. Perfectly cooked fish filet, which hangs over the side of a hoagie roll. The shrimp and scallop kabobs are also mighty fine, and come on a bed of rice. Side Items - All pretty good. The onion rings are large and cooked golden brown and delicious. They also have side item specials each day. My wife tried a tomato salad side one time and continues to rave about it. Soups - I usually order a soup as my side. The clam chowder is available everyday and is delicious. Today's soup special was crab and lobster bisque. I've heard others rave about the beer cheese soup, which used to be offered on Fridays. Ribs - I heard them talked about several times so I tried them for dinner one night. While they do not have smoked barbecue flavor, they are still pretty tasty. Not quite as tender as I like, but good enough to order again one day. Desserts - I've only tried them twice, and both times cobbler. Hard to find good cobbler these days. Once I had strawberry cobbler with ice cream, and it was heavenly. Another time it was peach cobbler, which was decent. Portion size is humongous. Location - When I first moved out here, Norman's was in the boonies. Now they are right in the middle of the new fancy mall. You can exit the mall at the traffic light and scoot straight into the Norman's parking lot. Easy. Decor - Looks like a fishing lodge. Cool fish mounted on the wall, boat motors, that sort of thing. Also check out the men's room. A well-positioned one-way mirror offers an interesting view :-) The building - Housed in a log cabin, it is casual and inviting. They have a screened in porch for outdoor dining. Also have a nice ping pong area. Service - They don't hire idiot high school kids here. The wait staff is mostly middle aged women who work very hard. Almost every time I'm impressed with the service. Quick, friendly and attentive. They also know when to be a little flirty to the necktie-wearing guys at lunch! And usually the owner (perhaps Norman himself?) will come by and ask how things were. They pay a lot of attention to detail. Good Citizens - It seems that they are very involved in the community. They do everything from sponsoring little league teams to charity fundraisers for the United Way. Dozens of plaques and thank yous hang from their walls. All in all, Norman's is a great joint. I don't give out five star reviews lightly. This place deserves it. It is a little pricey but they certainly make up for it with terrific food and service. It is a great place to entertain business colleagues or out-of-town guests because of the casual environment, yet great food.

This is a great restaurant and has been for a long time. They have excellent ribs, and their banana pudding is famous. A great place for families, as it is LOUD, LOL. We have large family events there and reserve the room in the front. Also they have ping pong for the kids. The food is always good, and they have a diverse menu. In their genre, they are as good as it gets.

Classic southern with all the fixins! Catfish, shrimp, tilapia, steak, chicken, crab cakes - they have it all and will grill it or fry it for you. They have the sides like fried okra, fries, baked potato, steamed vegetables, sauteed mushrooms and specials like carrot souffle. (the carrot souffle was categorized as a vegetable when it was definitely more like a sweet bread pudding with some carrot thrown in for good measure. Most meals start with cornbread and yeast rolls which are great. My dining companion and I had heard rave reviews about the beer cheese soup so we started our dinner with that. We both had cajun style grilled shrimp which was good and I also had a grilled crab cake which was quite tasty. To end the meal I had a slice of the key lime pie and although it is not made in house it was really good with a graham cracker crust and a nice tangy and slightly creamy lime curd base with a few dallops of whipped cream on top. This place beats the chain restaurant options in this area hands down! Stop on in and get a tasty meal and you can even play a game of ping pong in their game room while you wait!

Using a gift certificate, we returned to Norman's Landing for a Friday Lunch after being away for more than 5 years. We had a disappointing experience then, and sadly nothing has changed. Today my dining partner ordered the scallops entrée, and received only 5 small scallops - that he is convinced were frozen. I ordered the grilled shrimp with onion rings. the shrimp were very good (grilled), but the onion rings were loaded with grease in the breading. They oozed grease. It puddled under them on the plate. i didn't see it until I picked one up for a bite and ended up with greasy fingers. Plus, they tasted of used, burned deep fat fryer oil. To top it off, the diet coke was more seltzer and colored water. Sorry but there was no taste. The waitress offered to replace the onion rings, but I was turned off to their food by then. They boss came by earlier to ask how things were going, and I mentioned the coke was more seltzer than soda. He took it away and sent a server back with a replacement that was just as tasteless. We had lunch, mind you, a standard order of scallops (5) with a baked potato (that my partner said tasted like it was backed the day before), and an order of grilled shrimp with fried onion rings. One sweet tea, one diet coke, and 2 desserts. Our bill came to $52. So, while some may think of this as a local institution, like my dad used to tell me, who wants to live or eat in an institution. They have signs where the servers pick up food saying, Would You Eat This? My answer is no.

This is one of my favorite spots...It is too expensive for what you get, but the fried scallops and fried fish is some of the best that I have had. The Clam Chowder is very good too. Fries are very good and the salads are good too. They always have the best tomatoes in town....always. I don't even like tomatoes but I eat them from Normans. Worth a visit.

  • Brent M.

Very average. I'm surprised they made it after The Avenues were built. They were the only game in town besides the wafflehouse, for a LONG time It's ok in a pinch if you must have some fried seafood. However beware you might get previously frozen/pre breaded shrimp! Why 3 stars they get half a star for longevity, seems to me average people love this place. Sorry to be a food snob, the truth is the truth!

Outdoor seating my a**. My husband has wanted to visit this restaurant for a long time. So one night when the humidity let up we decided to check out their patio. The hostess told us to just let the bartender know and we could seat ourselves. The place was not busy and the bartender was having a casual conversation with what appeared to be an acquaintance. When we notified the bartender she informed us, in a very rude fashion, that the patio was only for smokers and not diners. When we informed her of what the hostess had said, she looked at us and the hostess with the stink eye and continued to tell us how she was not going to serve us on the patio. Well, her attitude was enough to turn us around and send us to their competitor across the street . So, unfortunately this is not a review of their food, but of the poor impression the employees gave to two potential customers. And needless to say we will not be back.

    (1)

I didn't think this place was really good, nothing special about the food and the place is somewhat old. Go across to the street to the avenue's mall and there are plenty of better places to eat.

So so so disappointed. Lived in Cumming for 10 years and have heard rave reviews about NL the entire time. Was a little wary after their poor health score the last time around, but also read the amended report where everything was corrected. Bartender was awesome and made fantastic tall Ketel bloody mary's that helped start Father's Day Dinner off right. Host staff was stellar and kept us updated on the status of our wait and our table (which we expected since it was Father's Day). Everything went downhill when we were seated. At a corner table. Next to the kitchen door and a filthy server station. Our server couldn't even pronounce the specials much less tell us what was in them. She continually walked off while in the middle of taking orders or talking with us. She was too personal with our table - at one point interrupting herself while taking the order for the table, *sitting down in the booth* and talking to me about tattoos and other things. We had to redirect her to the fact that half the table was still waiting to place order. There were two items that were ordered that had been 86'd at least 45 minutes prior (according to the manager) and the server said, in front of said manager when questioned about an 86 board in the back, "yeah we have one but I don't pay any attention to it." Despite being told twice that nobody at the table cared for mushrooms of any kind, she accidentally rang a mushroom app and the hubby's steak was in a mushroom wine reduction (which he would not have ordered had he been told). On the plus side - the manager was very receptive to our comments upon leaving. I'm willing to give them another chance, but ONLY because of the way the complaint was handled by management and the fact that it was Father's Day and not a "normal" restaurant business day.

Very consistent. We eat here regularly. The food is always good. The Fish special is affordable, tasty and a good size portion. This is a great place to just drop in and have a wholesome meal. Very popular with the locals. Try it at least once and see for yourself.

Saw a review for Normandy Landing on Atlanta eats. We went last night and I had the lobster roll which was good but not $20 good and my wife had the crab cakes which were pedestrian at best. If you don't have anywhere else to go for seafood this is your spot

Rustic surroundings with a lakeside theme, family dining with a pub area for the adults. Great menu!! Outstanding food cooked to order. Best baby back ribs in these parts. The beer cheese soup is to die for as well as the gumbo.

I so much want to like this place. We live close and have tried it a couple different times. Unfortunately the food is ehh at best. My daughter had flounder that was inedible, like it tasted really bad and spoiled bad. We figured, hey, any place can have an off night. We like seafood and the staff handled the issue really well so I figured let's try it again. Nothing bad this time but also nothing that stood out either. I've eaten at red lobsters that were better, really, many times. To be clear I'm not a red lobster fan but for some reason beyond my understanding my wife loves them! Any way back to Norman's. Local place check, good staff check, good food...? Maybe three times a charm?

Just ate here for the first time. I had fried seafood platter with lima beans and side salad and banana pudding. Hubby had grilled cajun seafood kabobs and key lime pie. Everything was really good and unlike some places that have fried food this didn't taste like fryer oil that had gone rancid. It was just yummy! I did not feel completely gross afterward. Service was very attentive if not a little rushed. Place is very dark inside. Kind of reminds me of Dante's Down the Hatch in Buckhead. It's a bit dated like The Colonnade, but as long as food and service are good I don't care."Norman" actually exists and went table to table to make sure folks were happy. They have a lot of regulars from what I could tell. The cornbread was awesome -very moist but not too sweet.

You can get VELVEETA on your burger here. Not many places offer that up as an option. They always have a great rotation of side items, soups, and desserts on the daily menu. The ping-pong table room is fun. They decorate the restaurant nicely for Christmas.

This food is pretty good but I wasn't blown away. The people were very nice. A lot of older people eating there so it didn't seem very kid friendly.

Decent lobster roll, too bad the correct New England hot dog rolls are not available in this area. Drawn butter on the side, good price and as good as I get on Cape Cod.

Sunday Brunch that keeps on giving. SHAME on whomever is responsible for poor hygiene. Food Poisoning - Stomach Flu - Gastroenteritis. All served up on a beautiful Sunday morning. How is this possible when we arrived at door open? Five days later & I am still feeling the affect of what probably came out of the brown gravy topped on my Country Fried Steak. Had my immune system been compromised the story could have been very different but I've NEVER been this sick from something I ate. Upon further inspection of Norman's I find the Forsyth County Health Department scored them at a 53/100 for various infractions in November 2013. They went back in a few weeks and upped it to 84 which is a "B". Had I known they had EVER received such a low rating I would have never stepped in - but in their return visit the Health Department cited them for NOT posting the previous inspection sheet with the 53 rating... Go Figure. I ate there with my son - had he been the one afflicted God only knows how sick he would have been because I was bedridden for two full days. Proof is in the pudding: forsythhd.com/pages/envi… Read it and decide if you will be taking your family there anytime soon. Norman's Clientele deserve better than this. Shut your doors - clean house inside and out. Fire the persons responsible for the 53 and fix what's broken - the next victim could be someone who doesn't spring back & could result in even worse condition.

We arrived at 3:00 on fathers day. I ordered the Cuban Talapia. The meal was fantastic.

Norman's is certainly a hometown standard, it's been in the same spot on Hwy 141 for as long as I can remember. I hadn't been there for several years until last Thursday when my baby and I decided to stop in for dinner. As "luck" would have it, Thursday is Prime Rib night, and we both love a really good slab of prime rib. I ordered mine medium rare with house salad and onion rings. The salad was fair, thousand island dressing tasted a little on the tart side. The onion rings were fabulous, best thing I had there this trip. As for the prime rib, about the only thing I wasn't disappointed about was that it came out perfectly medium rare. After that it was all downhill. Taste was very bland, hardly any spices on the outside. I would have been OK with the lack of flavors but the meat itself was very tough and this made the entire meal a flop. Ultimately it was my fault because I should have complained but that night chose not and thus couldn't get it addressed. Lesson to be learned here - avoid the prime rib. By the way my girlfriend's prime rib was no better.

Was a very nice enjoyable experience. We had very good service (Taylor - our waiter, and Theresa - the Mgr) and good food. Wife loved the lobster and my steak was nicely done. The marinade was very tasty. The only thing we didnt care for was the dipping sauce for the mushroom appetizers. Not much taste. Just didnt seem to go well. Still, overall an enjoyable experience, and again, the service was very good and friendly. Plan to go back again.

I'm with Ariel. "Blah" is a good word to describe. Good service, Alicia was very polite and friendly. Restaurant was clean, hostess was quick and friendly. That's about where the compliments end. The food was very disappointing. The dinner "rolls" are seemingly hamburger buns toasted. No prime rib, only on Thursdays? Really? The menu was very limited. Nothing special that you couldn't get elsewhere. Nothing special or extraordinary to bring you in. It was your traditional fish choices, steak choices, and sides. Honestly, the big name franchises have so much more to offer. We try to support local owned restaurants only. This one disappointed. I got the Boston Clam Chowder, and the 8oz Sirloin with broccoli and sweet potato fries. The steak had barely any seasoning on it, the broccoli had no seasoning nor butter.. however the sweet potato fries were pretty good. I ordered my steak medium rare, but it came on the warmer side of medium. The clam chowder was "OK". Nothing specific to say about it. Wife's meal was similar. The best part of her meal was the side of mushrooms, which I stole to help season the steak. Only shining meal was my toddler's fried shrimp. Very tasty. All in all, nothing was there to bring us back. No potential, no brilliant dish or moment. Was very forgettable.. And I plan on doing just that.

As a transplanted Northerner, I felt like I had stepped away from Georgia and had been magically transported back to a Minnesota lake cabin when I walked into Norman's Landing. There was something very cozy, inviting and charming about the place. It was also full of families who looked like they were regulars and happy to be there. We really liked the ambiance and vibe of the place a lot. My wife and daughter are HUGE fried oyster fiends. Everywhere we go, if fried oysters are on the menu, they'll be on our table shortly after we arrive. They ordered a dozen each and when they came, their eyes nearly popped out of their heads. These things were huge and looked amazing. However, after they dug into them, they both had a change of tune. They both agreed that the breading was way too thick and flavorful, to the point that it overpowered the oysters. They said the oysters hadn't been de-bearded, either, which made for a very chewy experience. I ordered a filet and baby back rib combo. The filet was a quality cut of meat, but it hadn't been seasoned very much. It took on a much better flavor only after I splashed some A-1 sauce on it (out of necessity). I saved the ribs for last and they were surprisingly excellent. Very tender and flavorful. I ordered the wild bbq sauce, which wasn't all that wild or spicy...just deliciously tangy. One odd thing about the menu at NL is that many entrees come with your choice of 2 items from the sides menu. However, on this menu of about 12 sides, about 8 of these are types of potato. Short of ordering 2 types of potato, you are left with collared greens, rice, cole slaw or sauteed mushrooms. If you don't like any of these things, you're hard pressed to pick a second side...which is exactly what happened to me. We ordered the mandarin orange cake for dessert and it tasted like it was baked fresh in someone's grandma's kitchen that afternoon. The service was excellent and we even had other servers stop by to see if we needed anything. Overall, we love the theme and vibe of this place and thought the service was great. Some of the food items just needed some slight recipe tweaks to bring them to a higher level. I'd like to go back again sometime, but it probably won't be a frequent place for us to dine.

The best word I can think of to sum up our experience here today is: "blech". Our server was polite and the table was clean. Okay, those are the good parts. Not-so-good was the food. Well, no. The food was bad. Lunch for two - two entrees and one appetizer plus iced tea and a soda - was almost fifty bucks and consisted of... Shrimp cocktail: served a little *above* room temperature. Chewy. Veins still intact. Cocktail sauce was out of a bottle (and a cheap bottle at that - come on, cocktail sauce is a handful of ingredients, you can't make your own?). Presented in a bizarre fashion on top of some shredded iceberg lettuce with some lemon rinds tossed on top. I ate one shrimp and decided that the temperature was iffy enough to pass on the rest of the $9 appetizer. Country-fried steak: holy cow, why not just call this "sweet, salty gravy with some cube steak thrown beneath". Oily and whoa! SALTY. The breading was thick and gloppy. In fairness the cubed steak was tender and not too bad if you scraped off the gluey stuff on top. Steamed veggies on the side were just that, no problems there. Ordered the "grilled" potatoes which were DEEP FRIED and again super salty. $12.45. Fish and chips - the chips are shoestring frozen fries. The fish is tilapia (but is labeled that way on the menu, can't really quibble even though one would expect cod) but was oily and salty. Cole slaw was warm (uh oh, again with the lack of refrigeration) and bland. $14.45. I realize this isn't supposed to be fine dining but come on - Southern cooking doesn't mean greasy, salty and presented in a sloppy, indifferent manner. And sure not for fifty bucks. What a waste of money, even as a learning experience. We left 90% of our meals on the plates and the server never even asked us why. I guess she knew without asking.

This is a South Forsyth tradition. A unique North Woods "lakish" atmosphere coupled with great seafood and steaks with pleasant service make this a wonderful dining experience. The large dining room with boats, fishing poles and motors on the wall add to the quirky ambiance. There is a large fireplace in the bar. There is a ping pong table in the entrance and the donations goes to charity. The portions are large and complimentary cornbread and rolls are a treat. I almost always get the surf and turf - a small fillet and shrimp or scallops. The clam chowder is always excellent. The catfish fingers and another app could be a complete meal. One of the best meals is to have the catch of the day blackened. The seafood kabobs are wonderful. It is a little pricy, but I am hard pressed to find a more reasonable seafood restaurant so far from the ocean. I vote for 4 stars.

I always see cars in front of this establishment and saw their menu online and assumed this was a night adult sit down restaurant. My wife and I went there for dinner for our Anniversary and weren't all that impressed with our dinners. The steaks were not great cuts and lacked flavor. The seafood was just so so. The sides were pretty good though. If you are looking for a steak and seafood meal and don't want to leave Cumming, the food was ok. However, I wouldn't go back for what it cost for the meal.

Anyone who reads my reviews regularly knows that I love southern food, barbeque and, to some extent, seafood. Norman's Landing excels in successfully marrying all three food categories into one amazing / delightful mix. It is not exactly Cajun or New Orleans; however, it seems very close in style and spirit. I went here the other day with a group of co-workers for our Friday lunch outing. It was a special occasion since we have a guy leaving the department to go to another department (promotion?) on another floor. So we all knew we were going to spend more than we typically like to for lunch. But hey, its a celebration, and we know the food is going to be outstanding. And it was. I was torn between the scallops platter and the Santa Fe Salad (both highly recommended). I opted for the salad and added grilled Cajun style shrimp. The salad was a little skimpy (and not as huge as it had been billed by those who recommended it); however, the large, well-seasoned, delicious Cajun shrimp were filling and made up for the seemingly less-than-hefty salad portioning. The chipotle-ranch salad dressing, which I used for dipping the shrimp in, was pretty damn amazing. I want to go back, if for no other reason, to try the scallops. I really like this place; however, I think I like Bay Breeze in Mableton a lot better (if I am going to travel far out of my way to make a special trip outside the city or shlep to the outskirts to dine at a seafood joint).

Went there for lunch at noon on a Wednesday. Waitress was knowledgable and very friendly. The cornbread was moist and delicious. It took a long time to receive the meal and when it arrived it was not very good. I had Grouper with pecan coating and my girlfriend had the Trout with pecan coating. Both dishes were under cooked. The sides were good, but the fish really ruined the whole meal. Did not mention this to the waitress since we needed to go back to work. Bing the first time here, we will probable not return.

Norman's Landing is my favorite seafood restaurant in metro Atlanta. Bill Norman is a stickler for fresh seafood and I have never had better, fresher grouper than at his restaurant. The service is warm and friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and the food delicious. I love the rolls and cornbread, fried okra and baked sweet potatoes. Oysters on the half shell are always fresh and delicious. And they have the best $3 margarita you will ever drink. But the grouper is the bomb - it is so good, I sometimes dream about it :) Order it pecan or almond crusted if possible and be ready for something truly delicious and mouth-watering. One final note: my boys and I returned home from a week in Destin where we ate fresh seafood, including grouper, nightly. We missed the grouper so I took them to Norman's Landing when we got back to Atlanta. The three of us agreed the grouper at Norman's was far better than the grouper we ate in Destin!

We went there for the beer cheese soup and cobbler.. Both certainly live up to their reputation, although they forgot to heat the cobbler. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. The servers were extremely friendly and made us feel they really appreciated our being there. The house salad with house dressing was colorful, crisp and tasty. The talapia reuben was pretty bland...a bit of a disappointment. The traditional reuben was average, but the sweet potato fries were superb! The catfish fingers were tasty and generous portion. If you're in the area on a Tuesday or Friday and you like beer cheese soup, don't miss it. However, I think the prices are a little high for lunch if you're not there to sample the signature items. We left full and satisfied, but with just a touch of wallet indigestion.

went back last week after a 2+year hiatus.. and it was a shade BETTER than last visit. we stroll in with a party of 8. and they immediately made "it" happen for us. the staff quickly got our table ready, got us sat, menus down, and drinks ordered. started with the Calamari and the crab dip.. the calamari was amazing. crispy, tender, with a nice spicy marinara dipping sauce that appeared to be house made. the squid was some of the best i have ever had. although they were tiny rings, i would have liked some tentacles with the rings.. but i understand why they don't serve them.. lets just say they don't have the most adventurous clientele. the crab dip was really nice too. creamy, cheesy with pronounced crab meat in the dip, and a nice crab flavor.. not all cheese. served with crispy pita chips and was quite tasty. for entree i had the fried lobster tail with slaw, and mac and cheese.. even i thought i was pushing it with mac and cheese AND fried lobster. but it worked. the mac and cheese was house made, good cheese sauce, elbow noodles were over cooked. probably from sitting in a steam well all day. but still VERY tasty. the cheese sauce to noodle ratio was a little off as well. to much cheese, not enough noodle.. but hey if there is a problem to be had.. too much cheese sauce is not REALLY a problem. the lobster tail was pulled raw from shell, a light flour based breading applied and flash fried. cooked perfect. perfect. the light breading was golden and crispy and the lobster was tender, succulent and just amazing served with drawn butter. the coleslaw was nice, crispy and a nice vinegar snap that was a nice off set to the rich buttery lobster and the cheesy mac n cheese. just a fantastic experience. great service, good food all the way around. would be 5 stars if it was not a 45 minute drive to get there for me... go get it!

First experience at Norman's Landing Didn't try the seafood but if I return it will only be for the seafood. The beef menu is a little short for a steak house but it is hard to screw up a rib-eye steak. That is unless the menu calls it a rib-eye and they serve a sirloin steak instead, which had no marbling and was very tough. You can get a better sirloin at any of the casual dining chain restaurants in the area for $9.99 instead of the nearly $25.00 at Norman's Landing. YMMV

Great food, great service, great environment. I had country fried steak, which was delicious, my wife had grouper fingers, which were just as delicious. Our server was a delight. This experience was as good as it gets. I couldn't find a thing I didn't like about it.
